In Blazing Chrome regiert ein repressives Regime von Computern die Erde, während die Menschen entbehrlich sind und ohne Macht, Prestige oder Status unter ihren Maschinenoberherren leiden. Als eine kleine Gruppe von Rebellen beschließt, ihre Unterdrücker zu stürzen, kommt es zu schweren Verlusten und einer Menge rasanter Action, bei denen das Verschrotten von Robotern und mit mächtigen Waffen das Einzige ist, was zwischen Spielern und ihrer Freiheit steht. Helden können wählen, ob sie als Mavra, ein super knallharter, menschlicher Widerstandssoldat, oder Doyle, der ebenso groovige wie tödliche Roboter, spielen wollen. Jede Wahl führt einen auf auf einen anderen Weg des Widerstands, der in einem Höllenfeuer aus Kugeln und einer Revolution gipfelt, die über das Schicksal der Menschheit entscheiden wird.

A quick review with pluses and minuses for Blazing Chrome.

+ Good pixel graphics that doesn't make your eyes bleed
+ Great music that will drive your ears to orgasm and they ask for more
+ Strong Contra vibes
+ Bro friendly
+ Normal playthrough length with several unlockables

- No Online Co-op
- Despite being listed, the Steam Cloud for your save game files isn't there (or it simply doesn't work)

It's got great graphics and a solid soundtrack, but the gameplay is too similar to older contra-style games. Pointless game over state is the first thing that comes to mind, but there are problems with the control scheme as well. Rolling should be a dedicated button, and hitboxes are often wonky. There are way too few different weapons, and way too few of them spawn in each level. Going further than that, the game doesn't seem to spawn additional power-ups when in co-op mode, so one player always ends up not having a cool weapon to use. It's short and a fun game to play over an afternoon with a friend in co-op, but I feel there are many similar games out there you could play that have better gameplay.

This game is a really good contra clone. Its short and solid Id say. Its hard but you have unlimited continues for easy and normal. You have to unlock hardcore. It has a life system thats implemented right. When you hit continue it sends you to the last checkpoint. Which is pretty much after every boss. Think of your lives in this game as HP in easy/normal mode.

Excellent plarform shooter in 2D, very inspired by Contra and it controls great. The power ups are great for facing different bosses and you have control switching them around as you need them to avoid losing them.

The vehicles, the ambiance, the characters, the bosses all have great pixel art, some of them even reminded me of Megaman Zero.

As for gameplay, its casual and forgiving enough for its genre while you are learning the game and the bosses, you can feel yourself improving significantly as you learn the bosses patterns and weaknesses as well as improving beating each level without feeling like you need to memorize every bit of the level to stand a chance.

Seems ideal for a casual coop experience and you can even try a hardcore mode if you want to feel that pressure of having to do the levels/bosses with more pressure on yourself

A love letter to Contra with a few elements from metal slug and some surprises thrown in too; There is some seriously good stuff right here in every single aspect and must play for anyone that loves run-n-gun games!

Man we really need more contra-ish games out there...

One of my new favourite side scrolling shooter. Seriously, this game is a masterpiece. A modern day Contra with spectacular pixel art and the soundtrack that perfectly fits it. Zero complaints.

Don't listen to the clowns leaving negative reviews just because they are too incompetent at this game. Not a single one of them have a valid criticism. All they complain is that it's too difficult and you die in one hit. Blah blah blah.. if you grew up playing Contra or Metal Slug, this is exactly what you should expect from this game.. especially Contra 3. The developers absolutely nailed what they set up to accomplish. Beautiful animated sprite work, great sound track and tight gameplay. It is hard and requires learning patterns, but it's one of those games you get better at every new try.. you always do better than you did in the last attempt.

Despite the difficulty, the game still far more forgiving than the old classics from that era, as you have unlimited continues that doesn't even force you back to the start of the mission, only from the start of the section you are in, so you're never replaying too far back from where you died.

Perfect game for what it is.

Blazing Chrome mixes all the core Contra action with some Mega Man X gameplay and soundtrack. Stylish looks, badass characters and functional weapons, make this game a must for all retro gamers.

it felt nothing like contra or metal slug. no i know it's not supposed to be based on it but you know they got the ideas from it. controls felt like they didn't respond sometimes. 2 characters. 5 levels. i just can't get into it.

Short but very sweet. Very reminiscent of games like Contra, Metal Slug, Gunstar Heroes, and Sunset Riders. If you love side-scrolling run-and-gun platformers then you can't go wrong here. While this game doesn't reinvent the wheel, it does everything right for those who grew up loving and playing those games.

Only downside: there's only six levels and it can be finished under an hour, so I would check it out when it's on sale.

This game got me goin' like 1994. Strong SNES/Genesis vibes.

Excellent throwback side-scroller shooter, platformer game. Challenging but fair gameplay. Getting those single digit achievements might be an incredible challenge for some.

Fantastic retro platformer, even for 2021. Get it.

Really good throwback to the 80s and 90s run and gun games. Doesn't even come close to the quality of the original Contra though. This is more like Metal Slug inspired and tries to imitate Contra. Recommended but read what issues it suffers from below!

Note that the game suffers from various flaws due to the game developers being incompetent and never actually having played any 80s and 90s games.
- Enemies in games of this type must die in one hit. Here they don't.
- There should be enough room to always move between projectiles and enemies. There isn't any here.
- Weapon upgrades must always include at least these types - laser, fire, spread, machine gun. There is no spread and the other upgrades are terrible. The fact that there is a shield just proves to me the developers didn't know how to balance the game, they got frustrated at their own incompetence and just added the shield thinking it fixes the imbalance.
- Some features are not just pointless but screw you up such as the roll. You can't get rid of it I think unless there is something in the controls I didn't see.

If you think this is a harsh review I don't care :) I grew up on games like these and I get triggered when I see potential for a game to be good and it's wasted because of stupid shit.

Great game ! Nice 16-bit pixel art. Challenging gameplay. If Contra franchise continued with 2D 16-bit graphics that would be that kind of game. This game is the spiritual successor of Contra Hard Corps on Sega Genesis. I recommend this game if you're nostalgic of old run n' gun or die hard Contra fan.

That RockyV guys review is a crock of shit, beat the game and the controls are fine and the enemies are great. I actually beat the game and didn't cry after an hour of being bad at it.

A very nice throwback to 90s gaming but a little expensive if you're not a fan of the genre.

[+]⠀There's much to love about this game: the beautiful pixel graphics, the music, the bosses and level design and the easy difficulty setting (not so easy though) for those, like me, who only enjoy dying over and over for a little while. I also really liked the references to Contra, Metal Slug or even Oniken, a similar Steam game worth checking out.

[-]⠀I just find the full asking price a little high considering there are only 6 levels.

What a great game. The controls are really responsive. You can easily control how high and how far you want to jump. The pixelart is beautyful and there is a good variety of enemies to shoot.
The bossfights are fun and every boss was unique with its mechanics. It always felt fair to fight them, with no cheap deaths.
The levels were all different and cool. In one level you were on a train, while on the other you rode on a mech killing dozens of mecha aliens.
To get maximum enjoyment grab a your best friend or sibling and play this game.
It's really good.

I find this game one of the best retro-inspired / spiritual successors to date. Basically the game replicated here is Contra, specifically Contra 3 and Contra Hard Corps. This means several things:
- great retro-style graphics (CRT filter is highly recommended to have the sprites feel ‘proper’).
- 80’s action vibe which just rocks
- gameplay that relies on memorization and is challenging

The first two points will instantly either make you interested, or make it a hard pass. It’s a no brainer really, the trailer and screenshots say it all.
What about the gampelay though? Well it’s not really that hard aside from some sections at the end of the game. Pretty much any level can be beaten with a bit of patience as long as you know which gun to pick up for which encounter and where to position yourself. Where mild bullshit kicks in is the final stages. There are some annoying minibosses and bosses that cause a serious headache unless you have the right weapon and there is a snowmobile section that is fairly long and has some jumping to it that will cost you lives unless you have speedrunner-type skill. But up to this point, it’s all manageable, even to someone who is not a contra veteran. Then comes the final boss, which I won’t spoil, but you know how some Contra bosses can be cheesed with spread-shot and fast button mashing? None of that here, it’s a multi-stage fight some randomness to it that is hard to memorize. I think most people should eventually get it, but seeing how I clocked nearly 7 hours to complete it (for the second time, I also own this on GOG), 2 hours of that was dedicated to the final level. I’m not a skilled player, so I thinks it’s doable for most people, just be sure to take a break when you get frustrated and start again well rested the next morning, it make a big difference, cause you will get frustrated like hell on your first run.

Aside from that, the game is great, looks great, the music is good (not Contra-tier though, but it’s an indie made by a few guys), and there’s replay value in unlockable character who play way different thatn the ones you get at the start. If you’re someone who doesn’t back out of a challenge and likes old school, this game is for you. If you’re someone who missed that age of gaming and wants something to new that mimics that era, yeah… just keep in minds that it mimics that era quite right, so it’s gonna be harder than most of the stuff you played. But at least there are checkpoints.

The melee system is spotty, often firing off a melee attack when you don't want one, or failing to execute when you do. Putting it on a separate button would have improved the experience drastically. Instead, your best tool is entirely dependent on RNG.

Aside from the Grenade, all of the special weapons are near useless. Your default machine gun is the better choice most of the time. Picking up a weapon switches to it, which means you're a half-second away from death as you're now about to get hit trying to switch back to the weapon you were using.

Unlike later Contra games, which this is trying desperately to emulate, there's no option to lock your aim at a particular angle while moving, which would have been welcome.

Checkpointing is another issue. The ability to restart more often would have reduced frustration, improved accessibility, and given value to the Easy mode. If you're not already a run-and-gun god, Easy is still going to be too hard for you. It just gives you more lives. If you're actually capable of beating the game, you won't need them, and infrequent checkpointing keeps you from being able to practice the bits you're stuck on in a constructive way.

If you're incredibly nostalgic and want a new Contra-like experience, you might have a good time. If that's not you, and you're not a masochist who thinks being good at games is a solid substitute for an actual personality, then I would pass. The developer does great work, far better than most, but there's always key elements missing from his games, keeping them from being sure-fire recommendations. Great effort, though!

HOW in 2020 are games like this not online Co-op. i was gonna buy this game, now i am not . Huntdown is also is not getting my money for the same reason. At there heart, side scrolling platformers are contra and metal slug clones. What was the big draw with those games? Co-op. How do most people play co-op games now ? ONLINE.....especially considering the global pandemic. super disappointing . Moving on.

It's a very solid tribute to Conta Hard Corps with it's own twists. The art ios super detailed and has great character. The characters themselves are not as varied but a single run does not take too long to get bored of them. It's pretty tough but not impossible to beat after a few tries for a casual player like me.

Awesome game. Great graphics, great music and pretty fun levels. If you like Metal Slug, Contra or Sunset Riders, you should give this a try. You won't regret it.

Sadly there's no online coop, and the game is kind of short, but it's still a great time. I hope this and Odallus get a sequel someday.

played it with my young brother it was really fun
one of the best games for 2 players
cool bosses/levels/weapons
not hard really balanced
game takes 3 to 4 hours which is good for 10$ game
i highly recommend it if you have someone to play with
sadly there is no online coop which is a shame

It's Contra. There are some slight issues, of course, but the game is mostly clean, solid Contra. You shouldn't need to think twice about buying it. The pixel art is great, the soundtrack is banging, the enemies, patterns, bosses, pacing, all good stuff. Heck, it's cleaner and tighter than Metal Slug XX, which I will remain a fan of even if I am the only one in the world. The game is about an hour long so just about a perfect length for replays too. If you crave Contra, you really don't have an excuse here.

The only nitpicks I have are minor
-Crawler enemies take about one shot too many for how much they love to swarm you. And their low profile makes them tough to hit but you will never, ever clear them in a jump safely like your bullets keep whizzing over their tiny asshole little heads.
-The final boss has about 6 phases and because this game isn't stupid, none of them have enough health to last long because they aren't going to subject you to stupid crap... except a couple of those phases are boring neon jump rope that last a bit too long. Not as bad as Metal Slug 4's awful jump rope final boss but that boss could have used a bit of tweaking.

I really enjoyed my first playthrough this game! I love Contra and this game has a great understanding of the kinds of spectacle and strong action design that make Contra special, and it has its own unique strong voice on top of that. I can totally see going for that 1 credit clear in the near future.

Absolutely freakin awesome.

On the level of quality of Contra 3 and Metal Slug if it was made on the Sega CD. The game play is tight, fair and extremely fun. Definitely pick this up if you're into side scrolling shooters. Play it on easy if it's your first bout and you'll do fine.

its not a bad game by any means, but it lacks the gameplay polish that the Contra series is known for and this game obviously takes inspiration from. Some design decisions feel awkward. The enemy designs are annoying and absolutely not fit for the games aiming system. Hell, just to hit the boss at its vital part i have to keep on jumping, which in it self would not be a problem, but even when he is stunned i still cant hit it by just standing and shooting, which is bonkers to me. And the grenade launcher is the worst, mainly because it has no auto shoot property, every grenade you have to shoot manually, another weird design decision. The aiming is pretty terrible, there is an aim function to hold down a button and aim and shoot, but standing still just gets you killed so its worthless.

I tried to like this game, but its more annoying than fun.

80's and 90's blended to a well balance gameplay. Hard and great. Loved of how hard it is but fair. Anyone who has played the SNES will not only get an awesome nostalgia from this game but to a new generation will also love it.

The shooting is great with 4 weapon types and even more to unlock with two other characters when beating the game. You punch and slash enemies that get too close with a very fun beat down. With also some suppot bots that can increase speed, defence, and an attack bot to help fight in battle. It even has Mech suits that help fight in battle like Mega Man X4. Story is simple and easy to understand what you need to get done. Fight and beat the Evil Robots/Alien like beings killing everything that gets in their way and take over world.

This adrenaline-pumping, tough as nails run-and-gunner, isn’t retro-inspired, but pure retro! Besides that, it’s also tons of fun. That being said, it has a couple of issues, like some annoying hit-boxes, a lack of balance in terms of difficulty and weaponry, and, finally, the fact that it doesn’t add anything new to the genre. It’s great, but it could be so much more.

A true throwback in the sense that it's unbelievably fun once you're in the flow of things, and also that it can be challenging and somewhat unforgiving. Don't get me wrong—I'm not saying this is a difficult game to play; just don't expect loads of checkpoints and an easy path.

I promise that if you give this a real chance that you'll enjoy it.

Just not feeling it that much. Obviously it's quite beautiful but the only gun that feels satisfying or strong to me is the grenade... had several little control quibbles and only felt about 94% in control of my man for the duration of my playtime... if you want Contra there's plenty of perfectly fine Contra in the world. Don't feel like this brings anything new to the table.

First off, thank you to the Dev for helping me with some issues that wound up being on my PC. I really appreciate that you took the time to help me out.

If you are a fan of the old Contra games you will love this loving homage to it. It is just as fun as your memories playing 8 bit Nintendo Christmas morning. The sounds and graphics are spot on 90's arcade magic, it takes you right back, and the flying level is exactly what I always wanted to find in that experience but never quite got.

I had a lot of fun with this game, but to be fair there are a few flaws. There is about as much content here as a big arcade game from the 90's that is to say a few hours, so dont expect the game to go on forever. That said, there are a few hidden characters so there is some extra replay-ability there. My other grip is that I dident really care for most of the upgraded weapons. Even if they are more powerful than the base gun, most just felt clunky.

If you want the newest most high tech game with the most content, this likely wont be a game for you. If you want to step back in time and play Contra again for the first time you will love love love this game.

I really like this game a lot. Visually speaking, it reminds me of Super Contra on Super Nintendo. Gameplay Speaking, it took the best elements from Contra and also Metal Slug. Super fun yet challenging in the same time. Just buy it, okay.

Fun retro graphics / sound, tight controls and a pretty brutal difficulty. If you are OK with dying a lot before beating any given stage, this is for you. Clearly inspired by the old Contra run & gun games, so if you are into those you will like this. In particular, this reminds me of Contra 3: The Alien Wars on the SNES.

In lieu of a new official one, a faithful homage to Contra games and on its own terms an accomplished retro-inspired sidescrolling shoot 'em up. Short 'n sweet with ample gameplay variety, decent amount of challenge that stays reasonable even on Hardcore Mode, tight controls and an audiovisual presentation that's evocative of its source material together make Blazing Chrome an all-around quality action romp, with little in the way of negative aspects. Worth your while if you're a fan of the genre.
