Über das Spiel

Starten Sie ins Borderlands-Universum.

Not the Best Borderlands Game so far, but still very good.
Pro:
- Grafic is a bit better than Borderlands 2
- the Skills of the Vault Hunters are very interesting and fun to play (espacialy Fragtraps)
- Many background informations on Characters from Borderlands 2
- Cryo Weapons
- I personaly also liked the low gravity and espacially the Smash attacks
- The Claptrap DLC is nice (when you understand a bit more of Computers, than it is even better)

Con:
- Much shorter than Borderlands 2
- Not very much Bosses
- The most Legendarys arent farmable (Random loot from everywhere)
- No Lategame

----Optik:
Klassische Borderlands Comic Optik.

---Sound:
Sound wie immer satt. Also Ballern und Explosionen verursachen. Also sehr Standard für Borderlands.

--- Gameplay:
Hinzu kommen nun kleine neue Mechaniken.

Relativ simpel also.

Entwickler kennt man, nichts besonderes.

I have no problem with content, but holy hell the gameplay sucks here. I dont get how is it so badly optimized in comparison to BL2, like wtf. Runs like trash and the annoying zero G setting doesnt help it. I will watch story summary on the internet, this sucks and is not worth my time.

A real hit or miss, huge hit with me since I love anti-gravity and extra movement potential, but some people don't like that. The characters are cool and complex and Jack's Doppelganger has some of the best lines in the franchise. I'd recommend getting this with the handsome collection on sale though.

Played this when it came out a while ago on another account but i got it again to re-play after a long time and its a very fun game. I think it is a pretty underrated IMO. i would say its probably the worst borderlands game but still not a bad game by any means. It does feel pretty much the same as any other borderlands other than the zero gravity and oxygen systems. Some people get annoyed about the oxygen but tbh The oxygen really isnt that bad. It takes a while to use all your oxygen and there are easy fill ups everywhere pretty much. You also get oxygen whenever you kill an enemy so I never pay attention to it and its not a problem. And if i ever do somehow run out then you lose HP pretty slow so its not really annoying IMO. And if you do care that much i think, (not 100% sure) that if you play as Claptrap, then you dont have to worry about oxygen at all (because you are a robot). Not whole lot else to say. Like i said its pretty much just another Borderlands (which are great games so no problem with that). So if you like Borderlands im sure youll like this. If not then might not be for you.

Story: Pretty good story about rise of Hyperion Corporation and Handsome Jack. Story DLC Claptastic Voyage tells us story about secret code inside Claptrap's mind, worth it.
Gameplay: Looter-shooter as expected with the addition of verticality and Oz Kits as new equipment item, Cryo and Glitch weapons (DLC), new Grinder mechanic that combines 3 items into a new item.
Graphics: Good as always and unique art style that will look good for a long time.
Sound/Music/Voice: Good, more Australian vibe jokes (2K Australia).

Optimization: Good, runs well on low-end PC.
Bugs: No bugs, but once my item fell under textures.

Singleplayer: Yes (100% playable solo).
Multiplayer: Yes (highly recommend to play with friends), cross-platform multiplayer.
Player Count: Average (some queue wait time).
Pay to Win: No (only content and cosmetic DLC, no lootboxes, no microtransactions).

Borderlands 2.5

The game looks, feels, and plays exactly like the sequel. Same gameplay, same menus, same inventory system, pretty much the same guns. The point of the game is to describe the events… before the sequel. So you do get a new story, new environments, new characters with new abilities, and a new weapon element and category (which basically translates to 3 new gun types). Another difference is in the way you get to move around with a glide jump and a little double jump boost. It was pretty fun to glide around the map and slam to the ground on command; it’s something different, a welcome addition.

This game is pretty much an obligatory playthrough for any fan of the series. If you like the franchise, its humor, its crazy story and characters, then I don’t see why you would not want to play this game. It presents some very important backstory that ties Borderlands 1 and 2 together. Simply put - it’s just more Borderlands, which is always welcome.

The real star of the show in The Pre-Sequel is Jack. In Borderlands 2 he was perhaps the most gleefully sadistic, and effective video game villain since Final Fantasy 6's Kefka. Seeing his journey from hero to maniac is perhaps the biggest reason to make the 20-or-so-hour trek across Pandora’s moon, Elpis. Writer Anthony Burch shows a real knack for storytelling here, drawing a more sympathetic portrait of Jack without ever making him into the clichéd misunderstood villain. He's every bit the hilarious, ego-centric asshat here that we remember him as, and his excellently written and delivered dialogue is responsible for the lion's share of the laughs.

It’s a good thing too, because those laughs were often all there was to carry me through the long stretches of purposeless wandering around with barely anything to fight. This is part of a problem Borderlands has had since the beginning, and The Pre-Sequel hasn’t solved it. The inadequate waypoint system that doesn’t save you from going in circles while looking for your next objective, the boring trek back to your quest-giver at mission’s end… it’s all still here. The early hours on the moon were particularly trying, since everything is incredibly spread out, and every low-gravity jump takes seemingly forever. I just don’t want to walk towards a diamond on my mini-map for god knows how long to get to where the fun is.

And I really don’t want to go on a multi-step wild switch hunt to trigger said fun once I get there. The Pre-Sequel is cardinally guilty of this one. Apparently neither the Hyperion or Dahl corporations know how to make doors in space, because almost every single one you need to go through requires you to throw a breaker or manual override somewhere back in the area you just slogged through. In a game about shooting and looting, I should be doing those things almost constantly, but in The Pre-Sequel there were times when 10 or more minutes could easily pass without me doing much of either. Things do pick up in the latter half of the campaign, but this sort of buck-and-stall pacing has plagued the series for years, and it gets harder to forgive with each iteration.
But once The Pre-Sequel hits its stride, we get down to what Borderlands has always done best: the bullets start flying, the loot starts dropping, and joyful chaos ensues. The Pre-Sequel delivers a whole lot of that, starting with its four new playable characters and their positively nutty skill trees. Their action skills feel wildly different from one another, and from any of the vault hunters that have preceded them.

Wilhelm’s flying drone duo, Wolf and Saint, really stands out. Not only does one of them go on automated bombing runs against nearby enemies, but the other hangs back to heal him, or even your allies with the proper skill points invested. Nisha’s washes the screen in classic Western sepia, turning her into a godless, gunslinging killing machine for a short while, which is a bit more straightforward, but no less satisfying. Athena’s shield allows her to go all Captain America on fools, but Claptrap’s is by far the craziest, granting him different abilities depending on the situation at hand. Those who love a more anarchic, unpredictable approach to combat will get all the mayhem they’d like out of it.
In fact, everyone’s skill trees are flush with abilities that reward specific playstyles with powerful temporary effects, like mini achievements you unlock over and over. Borderlands’ mascot robot Claptrap, now playable for the first time, is the best example. I happen to be a compulsive reloader with a mild death wish, so his Boomtrap skill tree seems to have been made just for me. By rapidly reloading, I can get a variety of big buffs that have explosive results, but at the cost of some health and accuracy. Oh and I have chance of actually griefing my teammates with my action skill (serves you right for joining my game without an invite...jerk). Just reading some of the other characters’ high-level skills made me think, “How does THAT work?” A copy of whatever gun I’m holding appears in my off-hand? I turn into a walking nuclear bomb? I just had to try this stuff out.

The Pre-Sequel has a few other tricks up its sleeve too, and most of them work out. Not the new Stingray hovercraft – which handles like a wet mop with a ceiling fan strapped to it – but the new low-gravity mechanics are a success. Coming to grips with my elongated jumps took a while, but once it clicked, I started using my new freedom to deadly effect. It becomes so easy to put space between you and your enemies that sniping becomes a more viable option, and being able to bound over cover to slam down behind your foes’ cover makes getting up close and personal easier, and more satisfying than ever.
The new gearing options are a blast too. Freezing enemies solid with cold-based attacks and burning them to a crisp with the new laser-class weapons feels great, but just wait until you see some of the mods that come on the Oz kits that keep you breathing in space. Some grant you accuracy and damage bonuses while airborne, while others give you an entirely different set of buffs depending on whether you’re in vacuum or atmosphere. The Pre-Sequel is really generous with loot, too, so you’ll have plenty of opportunities to shape your character in interesting ways. I mean, my Claptrap basically waltzes into the middle of groups of enemies and decimates them exclusively by reloading and dying. I can’t think of another game I can do that in.
Despite its tendency to make you jump through hoops before getting to the good stuff, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel delivers where I expect it to as a Borderlands fan. The new gear and low-gravity mechanics mixed with the zany skill trees makes for a fresh experience, and with Jack at the center driving the story forward, you get a deeper dive into the always entertaining, if well-traveled universe of Borderlands.

It honestly is pretty good. I like the laser guns, and the cryo element is epic.
Story is pretty good; the story is way better than BL3.
Gunplay is good, especially with the wide variety of weapons.
Abilities are alright, some of the abilities take from the last games.
Movement is alright; sometimes it is fun to double jump, but at other times it is annoying.
Haven't played DLC, I have heard that it is good though.
It is worth a quick play if you like Borderlands.

This is the worst Borderlands game but I still recommend it. It shows a good backstory and Claptastic Voyage is really good. Beginning of the game is fun until you get to ultimate vault hunter mode. Leveling is very hard and tedious. Game isn't complete but is still fun to play with friends. Lots of easter eggs but that is the selling point of the game. Lots of re-used features but I don't really mind. Honestly if you like the Borderlands games and see this on sale or something buy it. Otherwise don't, unless you really wanna.

If you like the borderlands franchise this is just more of it. Not as good as borderlands 2 but still quiet enjoyable.

it's more borderlands. a bit uninspired, terribly unfunny despite its constant (CONSTANT) jokes, characters are just as linear as the game and with lots of mechanics that make you question why this series is still going to this day. but yeah, it's more borderlands and yeah, if you enjoy borderlands, you'll most likely enjoy this one.

now that i'm living in australia, some of its jokes, names and overall humor make sense and it's nice to see that the developers added them, gives the game some soul. but everything else is contentious to have any sort of positive arguments on my side. the space theme makes the game slow, bordering a walking simulator in some parts. backtracking is constant. enemies are the same for the rest of the game after you play the first hour of it (ignoring the end part which is even worse somehow). the loot is never satisfying (at least on a first playthrough, i wouldn't be surprised if they only drop the good stuff after you grind for it as usual). sigh, anyway.

it's more borderlands for the borderlands fans. frustrating but playable i suppose.

Not as good as the second but still fun, I'd say this game is still much better than the third so if you're looking for more Borderlands that isn't the main trilogy, this one might be worth picking up.

To the point: This game's online PC multiplayer is atrocious with connection. Gearbox has shifted to SHiFt services in an effort to allow cross-platform multiplayer. In effect, lag is abundant, ever-present, and sometimes debilitating. The whole reason anyone plays Borderlands is to enjoy with friends, especially this installment in the series. If you value your sanity, be aware what awaits you here.

After sinking thousands of hours in the Borderlands series across multiple platforms. All I can say is that this one, even though it comes a bit quirkier than the others is probably the most replayable one with friends. It doesn't feel extremely long like 2 and 3 and the classes are really really different from eachother.

Overall, 9/10 probably the best co-op Borderlands out of all.

Preface

Finally, I managed to master all the parts of the legendary Borderlands and now I'm ready to express my opinion about this wonderful series. Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is a kind of prologue to the second part. Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is a wonderful experience of exploring a mysterious and unexplored area-a satellite of the Earth-the Moon.

The main part

At first glance, most would not have believed that this is Borderlands, if not for the original and easily recognizable drawing. Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is a rather dubious part of the great Borderlands series, since it is short and there is no Legendary Pandora familiar to players in it. On the other hand, this part brought a lot of new and interesting mechanics, a new gaming experience in the Borderlands series.

Personal notes

DLC is the weak side of Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, however, for me personally, they will still be more interesting than the DLC for the first part.

Conclusion

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel should not be bypassed, at least in order to find out how the great Hyperion company was born and how Handsome Jack became the way we used to see him from the second part.

I would say Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel was probably my second favorite game in the series (behind 2). I will admit that a lot of what made this game enjoyable for me personally were the DLC characters like Handsome Jack. The game itself and the original story were great but being able to go through that as Handsome Jack and Claptrap elevated the experience even more for me. I typically try to not weigh DLC too much into my reviews given the base game is what I am reviewing but I was just continually blown away at the extra dialogue and jokes that it felt disingenuous to not mention it in my review.

If you are looking for a good entry way into the series I would say definitely do not start with this game and start from the beginning with Borderlands 1. All I can really say is that if you play 1->2->The Pre-Sequel you will definitely not regret spending your time in this game!

I bought the game a really long time ago, but for some reason I couldn't bring myself to play it. But now that I completed it I'm not disappointed. The variety of guns quiet big it's a borderlands game after all. Quests are fun to complete, and you witness Handsome Jack’s rise to power. Overall very fun shoot and loot game, fun to play alone or with friends. I'm probably going to go back to it after a while.

Honestly my favorite Borderlands out of the bunch. Good story (certainly better than 3's story, if you can believe that) and you get to see how Jack turned into Handsome Jack. I won't forget how excited I was for Pre-sequel back in 2014 when it was announced. Great game!

Only buy this if you have friends to play with, it's not worth your time solo.

So, this is basically an expansion to BL2... but stand alone for some reason. The writing, which was pretty spotty in BL2, is worse here. Also, the campaign pretty bad in general. All of this is a real shame because, surprisingly, the best vault hunters in any Borderlands to date (including BL3) are the ones here. If only you had something interesting to play using them and their awesome skill trees...

As it stands, this game is NOT worth 40 usd. DO NOT buy this unless it's heavily discounted, as there's very little content to actually play with.

Borderlands isn't really my cup of tea, nevertheless, I occasionally decide to complete some of them.

The Pre-Sequel is the title that I liked the least, due to some issues that hurt the quality of life of the title. There are features that are expected in every Borderlands. The amount of travelling, the grindy festival of enemies everywhere, and the loot, which I personally don't like, but this one adds another gimmick:

A gravity with less gravitational pull than what we're used to. Jumps are higher, falls are slower, and the damage from it is smaller. It also is very boring; it can be fun for a while, but after ten hours of watching your character slowly falling or jumping, you irremediably get tired of it, it wastes your time. This, adding the negligible amount of vehicles, and the useless they are (since there are rifts and stones everywhere), makes for a pretty time consuming travelling, which you'll have to do all the time in quests and between them.

The humor and writing are without doubt worse than what we're used to in the saga. Maybe they grew stale since we've seen the same randomness and type of comedy over and over again, with little evolution. Or maybe it's because they lack a certain quality, but what I can confirm is that I didn't really enjoy them.

The soundtrack is forgettable, so are the sound effects. Graphics are run of the mill in Borderlands, expect nothing new, nor prettier than what you're accustomed to. There are some new enemies, but again, they're forgettable at best.

All in all, it's a pretty poor experience if you're not into Borderlands. In the eyes of a fan, I've heard that it's just okay. I do recommend it though, if you get it for cheap. I wouldn't spend anything above 15€.

My first entry to Borderlands franchise and I really enjoyed it!

Pros:
- Art style and environments look beautiful, some of the landscapes are incredible to look at.
- Gameplay is fun and responsive for the most part.
- Voice acting is mostly great, especially Jack's VA. He did a fantastic job.
- DLC is fantastic, so unique.
- Some of the quests are really funny, there are some great bits and moments.

Cons:
- Story is meh, nothing special, but I guess this just serves as a bridge between the first and second game, so I get it.
- Some of the characters are sooooo annoying and not interesting (yelling and screaming ≠ funny).
- Somewhat repetitive gameplay.
- Some minor bugs I've encountered.

Overall, not much to it, but still fun and enjoyable game.

If you enjoy the gameplay from Borderlands 2, and want some additional content, I highly recommend you to play this one. It's basically a Borderlands 2 skinjob, it does some things better, a few things worse, but mostly it's the same as Borderlands 2 in terms of mechanics, style and gameplay although with far lesser and varied content.
What I really liked the most is the fact that Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel uses low gravity mechanics, has laser weapons and allows you to play as Claptrap, what could be better?! + If you try to play as Claptrap, the game gives you 3 warnings beforehand - 10/10 Warning System. The backstory of Jack and his Vault Hunters is also pretty cool.
I would recommend you to firstly start with Borderlands 2. I would also recommend you to only purchase this on sale.

I was skeptical because lots of people had mixed feelings about the pre-sequel. Worng ! It's the funniest Borderlands you'll ever play! Claptrap it's the most powerful character in the game if you're playing a little bit with his skill tree and of course it is the funniest. Personally, I like the pre-sequel more than BL3. It's about half of BL2 with side quests and everything but it's really good. Give it a try if you love Borderlands saga and you won't regret it.

If you're already a fan of the franchise ,get it by all means. If you're not a fan though, TPS doesn't do anything radically different from the previous entries in the franchise that you'll end up liking this one, hell, many people who like BL2 don't like TPS.

It's basically a BL2 skinjob, it does some things better than BL2, a few things worse but mostly it's the same as BL2 in terms of mechanics, style and gameplay although with far lesser and varied content.

What's Good.....

  • Skill trees are much more robust and personalized for each character. The final skills in each tree are wild and very fun to use.
  • Seriously, all characters are so much fun and different to play from each other.
  • Characters are actually voiced and react differently during story and side quests in-game.
  • Lasers.
  • Low Gravity combat makes combat less tedious and much more fluid.
  • Dahl Soldiers are much more fun to fight than Hyperion loaders.
  • If you're a fan, the backstory of Jack and his Vault hunters is pretty cool.
  • Game still looks pretty, environments are cool but mostly same throughout.

What's Hood.....

  • There are only 2 basic Environments - Helios space station and Ellpis, the Barren Moon. Both of them are pretty well designed but they eventually get stale half way through the game because there's only 2 of them. Remember BL2 had glaciers, tundras ,dust bowls and everything else in between.
  • Side quests are not as fun in fact, main quests are a bit of a drag as well.
  • Newer Wildlife not from BL2 like Kraggons and Shuggarths are too easy to kill and never pose a challenge.
  • DLCs are mediocre and no where near as good as BL2.
  • I had trouble finding people to Co-op this game because most people play either BL3 or BL2 these days.

The awful level design ruins the great character classes.
So tedious to play compared to the other entries in the franchise.

They reused all they could from BL2, from gun design to Stalkers (on a freaking space station), down to even the bands that play the OST. It feels very cheap and rushed. The features they introduced seem poorly thought-out, such as the whole movement system which has you jump in slow motion all game long. Basically Borderlands 2, but not as nice, and standalone to try and justify the price tag.

My recommendation:
Buy it if you are a hardcore fan who wants the Handsome Jack backstory and isn't happy watching it on Youtube, or for a VERY discounted price.
Another one of the now-famous Gearbox greedy schemes (AHEM -- Borderlands 3 DLCs and Season pass -- AHEM -- screwing-up the development team on their royalties -- AHEM).

I enjoyed the first Borderlands when it came out a lot, but I guess the gameplay, visualization of it and cartoony graphics don't excite me the same as they used to. Pre-Sequel is pretty much like any other Borderlands game just more polished, with new story and characters. Doubt I'll ever touch anything with similar art style, guess I'm just getting too old for it. Played 6 hours, got bored that's the jest of it. Truth be told I can't even remember if I bought the darn thing or someone gave it to me. It's not a bad game by no means, check it out if you're into Borderlands theme. Have fun! ;]

Weakest entry in the series, gameplaywise felt sometimes like an expansion to Borderlands 2, the same way Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood felt as an expansion to Assassin's Creed 2. It is borderlands 2 gameplay and graphics, with laser guns, new characters and some features here and there, like lower gravity (which I so loved) and stuff.

Performancewise I had no issues until I changed my graphics card to 5600 xt, which should have had no issues with this game, but being AMD, Borderlands seems to hate it and started running like poop. Literally poop. So if you have performance issues when you first start the game, don't ignore them, ask for a refund. It's all about luck with this title.

Handsome Jack was awesome, the jokes were awesome, the story was from time to time awesome, Athena & Claptrap were awesome. And I really loved the last boss. Really was the best boss in the whole series so far, in my opinion. (not counting Borderlands 3, as that released after this title)

Overall an alright prologue expansion-like title for Borderlands 2, if you're lucky and it runs good on your PC.

Motion sickness game. Heavy motion sickness, for those who get it from video games.

It's a Borderlands game for sure, but not everyone who liked the first two were into this one. I had some fun playing it, but got stuck with the waypoint system leading me to dead ends. Most likely operator error.

Like all Borderlands games, I prefer to play these single player. Over many years friends have asked me to play Borderlands with them, and honestly I just don't have the same goals they do. They're always focused on some goal or mission and I'm always out of my element just along for the ride watching the game go by wondering why any of this matters to me. I play Borderlands to make weird things happen. Most of my time is spent trying to exploit glitches or simply do things the wrong way for fun. So you can guess my joy to be able to use Clap Trap's skill that just makes weird things happen.(sometimes with great benefit)

I enjoyed my time playing this game, but wasn't super invested in it. It's alright. Get it on sale, and have some fun.

Compared to other games in the borderlands franchise the pre-sequel is one of the weaker entries. However, that doesn't mean it's bad. The pre-sequel continues to deliver on the RPG FPS genre with more borderlands humour and gameplay. The low gravity and Oz kits give a different feel to movement, and the added laser weapons are pretty neat.

I'v been playing Borderlands 2 for a long time. This game not so long. Just a a few hours. It's a refreshing change and takes a little getting used to since I'm not used to the low gravity and the jumps. So far I like it. Wonder when someone will sing 'Waltzing Matilda' or maybe that's an Easter egg somewhere.

Sorry guys, I'm going to have to call this one a failure. Borderlands Pre-Sequel is a decent game by itself but for the third game in the series, it doesn't hold up to its predecessors. The original Borderlands was a good game but it had some downsides. However, since there was no reference point to compare it to, it was generally regarded as a good game. Borderlands 2 was a great game because not only did it fix a lot of the issues from the previous game, but it also added a variety of new features and mechanics - some thing that players love. Borderlands Pre-Sequel doesn't really add anything new, and it kind of feels like a reskin to the previous game that is somehow worse than the original. The only reason you would play this game is if you wanted to know about the events that took place between the first game and the second. Unfortunately, playing through this game is a hassle and feels like a drag because doing the same thing over and over again gets boring pretty fast.

Pros

Laser Weapons: This is really the only reason you would play this game. The laser guns are tremendously fun to use and are a great addition to this game.

Auto-collect Loot: Now you don't have to exit your vehicle every 10 seconds.

Vehicles: At the beginning of the game they tell you that there are several new vehicles to try out. In reality, there is only one new vehicle - the hoverbike. While the bike's jump mechanic is pretty wonky and inconsistent, it's still pretty fun to run over enemies and annihilate them with the cannon.

Ultimate Abilities: Unlike in the previous games where you could only use them every two minutes or so, the cooldown in this game is significantly lower, and decreases as you perform certain actions. It really takes the drag out of battles and can completely annihilate some bosses.

Characters: The two classes I tried were Nisha the Gunslinger (on PC), and Claptrap (on PS4). Both of them were pretty fun with great ultimate abilities. Claptrap's voice lines are amusing to hear initially, but can get stale after a while.

Cons

New Mechanic - Oxygen Tank: You can't breathe, literally. You have to find oxygen almost every minute, or even sooner if you take damage.

New Mechanic - Double Jump: The second jump doesn't actually take you higher, it just pushes you forward, but somehow makes you lose momentum from your initial jump. Oh, and it also uses up your oxygen supply.

New Mechanic - Ground Slam: Using this will most probably kill you. If you do survive, you lose all momentum and get stunned so you can't run for another few seconds.

Low Gravity: The entire game takes place in some offworld location that has extremely low gravity. It takes at least three seconds to touch the ground after a jump, which, after a few hours of play, can get really annoying.

Weapon RNG: Borderlands prides itself on having randomly generated weapons with randomly generated stats. However, in this game it feels like they rigged all weapons towards having bad stats. Most weapons you get from random drops will be pretty bad, and the only good weapons you get will be from crates or mission rewards. I got a purple gun from one of the tutorial missions and continued using it for almost half the game, because almost all the drops were garbage compared to it.

Weapon Balance: Common, rare, epic, or legendary have no meaning in this game. It's completely random - even at the same level. By the end of the game I had three epics and one legendary, but I still struggled with killing enemies.

Maps & Locations: The maps in this game are awful. Every single map is this abomination of maze-like areas where you can't take your vehicle through so you have to walk through them every single time, which usually results in you getting lost and walking over the same areas over and over again. Borderlands 1 had over 30 locations, with each one being unique in its own way. Some were designed for running, while some were designed for driving. This game only has about 12 and they are all very similar. The amount of space you get to drive is practically zero.

Side Quests: The side quests in this game are awful. After playing about five of them you will realize that there is just one side mission repeated in fifty different locations. They all follow this same format where you have to go to some location X. About halfway there, you will find a blockade for your car so now you have to walk the rest of the way and shoot all enemies. When you finally reach your destination, some jackass will tell you that he has either lost the item you need, or some monster ate it. You will then continue to walk for about thirty minutes, until you have to participate in a very underwhelming boss battle. Then you have to walk all the way back, but unfortunately for you all the enemies you killed have respawned so now you have to kill them again as well. In addition, several side quests make use of the same locations so you will have to traverse them over and over again, which adds to the frustration of having poorly designed maps.

Bosses: The first 70% of bosses are a joke. They will die in one hit if you use your ultimate ability. The last three bosses are the opposite. Each of them took me at least half a dozen retries. RK5 in particular, (I will not spoil who RK5 is now, but know that he moves very fast) is an absolute pain in the neck. He moves too fast for your powerful projectiles to hit, and within a few minutes you will find that you are out of bullets and none can be found on the map. I am actually soft-locked on this boss with my first character because I am out ammo, and dying to much has drained my resources so I can't get more. I'm not a bad gamer. It's just a bad game.

Game Length: This game overstayed its welcome by a lot. I was hoping it would be done by the 15th hour, but it continued to go on for another 15 hours.

Story: It's not great. There are some really dark moments, and I did not enjoy it at all.

Jack: More like Jackass.

All in all this game just does not feel that good when looking at the previous games. If you want to have a positive outlook on the Borderlands series, I will say stop at Borderlands 2 and skip this game. It's not worth your time. It's not worth your money. And it's definitely not worth your patience.

As a fan of the Borderlands franchise, this one was the hardest to play through (haven't gotten to BL3 yet). Not because of the difficulty, which was acceptable, but because most of the storyline felt stretched out and forced with boring missions, sub-par humour, almost no memorable (new) characters, annoying low gravity combat and at least for me the RNG/drops was awful. It only got better by the end after I was forced to grind because I couldn't keep up with the level gap...

I honestly don't get it

The worst one so far. Enemies move strangely making it hard to aim at them and also making most weapons pretty much useless. Then when you switch to the harder mode things start one shotting you and the gameplay feels like a mess. Definitely the worst of the lot so far.

Issues I have with this game are:
Grenade spam, every freaking thing throws grenades and they are dead on with their aim. Even if they don't see you.
Enemies shooting through walls.
Enemies move about two to three times as fast as you.
Enemies spaz out, they move very strange and it doesn't feel right at all.
Bullet Sponges, what is up with the amount of bullets I have to pump into enemies?
Enemies bugging out or falling through the world.
Getting stuck, way too many places are traps that you just get stuck in.

It is like they took the previous two games and sucked the fun out of them.

EDIT:
Just played through the DLC, and yup just as terrible as the rest of the game. I am really disappointed with this entire experience.

Video lag
Falling through the map
Really bad bullet sponges, I mean terrible design
There idea of a boss fight is make you fight the same boss 3 times in a row, great idea! Well designed!

I finished on the second difficulty, I couldn't play through it again. It is just a really bad game.

If Borderlands 3 is anything like this then the franchise is dead to me.

Borderlands the Pre Sequel is the red headed stepchild of the Borderlands series. The game has may innovations that set it apart from other Borderlands games. Playing with low gravity and using oz kits provide a new level of mobility not found in any borderlands game. The skill trees and their creative options allow for some of the most unique play styles ever found in the borderlands series. The glitch rarity of guns can turn any weapon into an unstoppable juggernaut. The story is probably the best of the series. Finally the DLC Claptastic Voyage might be the best Borderlands DLC ever. I hope you give this forgot segment of the Borderlands universe a try.

❝ I never got to play with guns when I was but a lad, but then ol' Jackie came along, and he was awful mad. 'I need a robot!' he declared, 'that can do my mighty deeds'. Then he saw me standing there, and a thought he did conceive. He told a way to make me rad, he gave me slots for guns, then he sent me on my way and wished me 'have some fun!' Now I'm here, a hired hand, amidst such death and chaos. ❝
-Claptrap

???? Description:

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is a very underrated game that unfortunately got the title of the ‘Black Sheep’ in the family. Even though, the concept of space as well as the introduction of new playable characters (including fr**cking Claptrap) was an interesting idea, that alone was not enough to satisfy the needs of the hungry fanbase. According to many the game offers nothing more than the same concept and style of it’s predecessor, making all the hype and wait for nothing. I beg to defer for so many reasons!

???? Plot:

The plot by far hands down the best that the franchise has ever offered. Not only you get to know the backstory of Handsome Jack, as well as other important characters, but you also explore the moral dilemmas and the reasons that Pandora quote: “Ain’t no place for a hero”. The concept of space is very appealing, there all lots of quests that make you die laughing and genuinely have an amazing time. Loot, guns, more guns, blood and original jokes, all are included and well mixed in the package, as expected from a Borderlands game.

????️ Gameplay:

There are some twists here and there that make Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel unique to it’s own way. A good example is the newly added gravity/O2 limitation. Even though, the art style remains the same, the introduction of the grinder, the oz kit as well as a new type of weapon and effect are the main recipes that lead to fun . Like any other Borderlands game it focuses on hard grinding and repetition, so don’t be afraid to grab a friend and start the adventure.

????️ Side Notes:

Borderlands the Pre-Sequel had a very bad start in the beginning. Non farmable bosses as well as many bugs made the overhyped fanbase mad, which in the end led to the game’s downfall. It was supposed to be a completely new Borderlands experience, considering the time passed into making it, but unfortunately it could not live up to the expectations.

???? Verdict:

Overall, I really like The Pre-Sequel, the price may be little spicy, but that's not a problem for our good friend steam here. I highly recommend for players not familiar with the franchise to start with this game, before moving to Borderlands 2, in order to enjoy it's full potential!

This game is such a big MEH, not good but not bad aswell. The biggest pro it has is that its a Borderlands game. I dont think i'd withstand any other game with such bad jump mechanins and stupid o2 bar system. But character designs and all are still borderlands and they are good. Still, nah, i dont think this deserves a positive review.

Taking place almost entirely on Pandora's moon, the Pre-Sequel adds fluctuating gravity and oxygen to the tried and true Borderlands formula. The latter works to keep players from hunkering down in one spot for fear of running out of air. The lack of atmosphere also affects fire weapons (you can't exactly catch fire without oxygen, can you?) and lasers, this game's new weapon type, adding another layer of strategic complexity to familiar situations. The low gravity part of the equation, however, was more of a miss.

Moon jumps, and the new double jump supported by spending a little precious oxygen, were never quite as satisfying as they seemed like they should be. Worse, this new mechanic encouraged adding more platforming-styled challenges to the mix which first person shooters are just not built for. Most areas are filled with bottomless holes, meaning any enemy charge could result in instant death and there will be plenty of enemy charges. Everything from bandits to torks were designed around the prevalence of low gravity, so just about every one of them wants to leap across the map and appear right behind you. It seemed like there was always someone behind me, a problem I don't remember having in the previous two games. It does make the combat more frantic and fast-paced, but at the cost of eliminating any control the player previously had over the battlefield. This is especially annoying while playing as Athena whose action skill is designed around blocking only the damage that hits the shield in front of her.

Athena is also the one that tells the game's story, a good choice as she occupies a moral middle ground in a game that isn't shy about its heroes being villains. However, using a player character's recollections to narrate the game's events means when playing as any other character the game won't quite match up with her commentary. Not that the storyline is the focus of this game or any other in the Borderlands series. And for that reason, I was surprised to find that the True Vault Hunter Mode playthrough, while not actually changing any events, did change who Athena was telling the story to, thus adding a slightly different flavor to what is usually just a retread with a more powerful character.

Other than those handful of improvements, as double-edged as they may be, The Pre-Sequel is exactly what you've come to expect from the Borderlands series: a mad world full of zany characters, a group of Vault Hunters who are just different enough to warrant trying them all, and more guns than an American doomsday prepper has ever seen in his entire life.

Shooter-looter, great graphics design. This game is perfect if you have some friends to play it with them, because the coop mode it's just a lot better than the single player one. If you're planning to play this just by yourself, maybe look for another shooter (but this game can be found REALLY cheap while in a sale, so tell your friends about it and spend a great time here).

A prequel to Borderlands 2 that introduces a lot of the bosses you fought but this time as playable characters. It's mainly Handsome Jack's origin story, and takes place in some new environments like vacuums with low gravity and the new attack BUTT SLAMMIN'. It's actually one of my favorites as the different characters got more dialogue than previous games, and I really enjoyed the Handsome Jack Body Double character.

Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is a fun game that learned well from its predecessors. The story is fairly engaging (exploring the origin of Handsome Jack was pretty cool), the guns and gameplay were solid with new additions like low gravity, and the visuals were on par with the series.

This is a game you want to play with friends, be it couch-side or online, as it adds a much more enjoyable element to the game. The dialogue and references are still witty, sarcastic, and down-right absurd in just the right places. Normally when a secondary studio (no insult to 2K Australia) takes over an IP, it doesn't do very well. However they seemed to nail just about everything with BLTPS, including an appropriately themed and well executed score.

The only problem my friend and I had with the game is that we went through most of the game without finding much loot better than our own. We traded out items and guns maybe 3 or four times at the most. That's a terribly low amount considering the game prides itself on its loot system and variety and weaponry. It was disappointing to go through the game with hardly any upgrades than from those we got back at level 11 (we ended around level 29).

Overall BLTPS was a fun and solid game with great characters, story, and gunplay, but seemingly broken loot system and bug encounters took away a good portion of the enjoyability of the game.

When compared to the other Borderlands games in the series, this one is kind of bland. It would've been great if it was sold as a BL2 DLC. I played this game before playing any other Borderlands game and this game on itself is very enjoyable, it got me into the rest of the series. Great characters and fun side-quests. The combat feels satisfying and the playable characters have interesting talents which you can make many viable combinations with that work together well. There's a few game mechanics like oxygen and ground slamming that are well executed.

A good borderlands, in line with the previous ones.

Nothing revolutionary compared to borderlands 2, but it remains a game in its own right. Always a very nice environment and a good deal of humor, but also a lot of references to the history of previous games.

While a little rough around the edges compared to Borderlands 2, The Pre-Sequel has enough to get kudos from me.
  • Getting it out of the way, there are blemishes you might notice I don't remember from the previous games. A good amount of invisible walls and items falling through floors or out of bounds will probably find you at least once.
  • With the gameplay loop and quests being mostly the same brand, the story is what stands out in my eyes. Handsome Jack at the wheel gives his backstory room to grow, if that's what you're looking for. The environments in space provide some sweet backdrops too.
  • One thing they did different I liked right away is dialogue for the classes. Hearing them in conversation instead of standing idly by adds a lot to their personalities.

It might end up feeling like extended DLC, but does what it sets out to do. More looter shooter action!

This review is dedicated to Take-Two interactive. Your predatory publishing practices are, and ought to be unacceptable for your utter disregard for not only the developers of our favorite games, but to those who consume the games developers like Star Theory create. The love we have for these games will now reflect on your games. My opinions toward the quality of your games don't matter, and neither do your opinions about us, the players. You have singlehandedly destroyed our expectations for your future games, and killed one of the best independent games of our generation, Kerbal Space Program.

Shame. On. You.

Not better than part 2, but it's pretty awesome and absolutely worth buying. Right now, these are the best Borderlands (ranked best to worst):

1. Borderlands 2
2. Pre-quel
3. Borderlands 1
4. Borderlands 3

Pick up all of them if there's a good sale. However, if given the choice, I'd recommend buying expansions for the others before buying BL3 unless it's just dirt cheap.

The Good:
Borderlands with low gravity means a lot of badass kills that you'll be thinking about for days on.
Nice range of levels and maps
The Bad:
Minor details are not corrected (such as bugs, details in environment, etc) that suggest the game was rushed.
Inconsistent game design to the point of sometimes being annoying
Many side-missions (and some main missions) feel like errands.

Overall:
If you're already sold on the idea of Borderlands loot 'n' shoot, give this one a go because it offers a pretty good and fun borderlands experience (if you look past the details), but if this is your first BL game I would definitely recommend BL2 rather than this.

Oh god.... This game could've been great :(
So much wasted potential.... If only they finished making that other DLC.
I wished that they added Oz kits in Borderlands 3, I'm really disappointed that they didn't.
Lemme rephrase; I'm really disappointed at Borderlands 3 as a game. They butchered the story BAD.
Also Hello nobody who's gonna read this. Feel free to get this game :) It's pretty good, and it also contains quite a few out of bounds spots that you could enjoy abusing.

Grab it for less than 10$ and you'll have some fun exploring the fetch quests. The claptrap-DLC is better than the main story.

The Pre-Sequel is a prequel to Borderlands 2 and my review will address that directly. I would not expect anyone who hasn't already played Borderlands 2 to play this.

First, is it as good as Borderlands 2? No. The writing is weaker, there's less content, many of the NPCs are weaker, there doesn't seem to be as much weapon variety, and one feels much more constrained and not as free to roam, partly through the oxygen mechanic and partly map design.

To that point, lack and placement of fast-travel stations is almost criminal, amid other problems with the maps/world, and the slog to get through Ultimate mode is atrocious due to bad point scaling. I'm also not a huge fan of slamming, and if you're looking for a true sequel to BL2, just get Borderlands 3.

With that out of the way, is it worth getting (especially on sale) if you're a Borderlands 2 fan? Absolutely, but not otherwise. It's notable mainly as it contributes to the Borderlands story arc and expands Borderlands 2–style play, with many weapons and mechanics straight out of Borderlands 2, or slightly changed, some of them improved, others, not so much. Cryo is much more forgiving and sensible than Borderlands 2's need for constantly slagging enemies, for example, and the Grinder for generating random weapons is a great addition, but Bandit/S&S/Scav is still a horrible manufacturer.

Compared to Borderlands 2 the vendors and skill trees are an improvement and the characters are more balanced. Moonstones seem more plentiful and useful than eridium, too.

There is, however, no end-game like Digistruct. Partly because of that, the active player base is small so you will likely have to play by yourself a lot, which is unfortunate, since many players' trees are geared heavily to co-op (more so than in Borderlands 2). However, any character can beat the game solo. The Claptrap DLC is, arguably, more fun than the base game, including glitch-rarity and other fantastic weapons; and Jack is an immensely fun DLC playable character.

The game itself is okay, the characters dialog is often funny, but the game play is tedious and very frustrating. Many of the quests that are timed or in difficult areas will require you to make numerous attempts to accomplish, while replaying the entire voice acting over again. What was sometimes funny becomes annoying after hearing it repeatedly. This, added with an an annoyingly slow movement of your character, makes playing become a marathon of patience versus reward, where the reward is usually another quest to test your patience.

The setting is low gravity, but the method to play in it is not enjoyable. This is a simulation of playing a jump puzzle while wearing shoes that are slathered in oil.

I forgot to mention that I have been dealing with numerous bugs and issues as well. I have been required to reset my game numerous times, because quests break and will not progress. For instance, race the kid, where the timer will not begin, but upon resetting the game, it works. Another example, drilling for ice, for the nurse, where the third ice to loot does not appear, until I reset and load in, to find it there on the ice. Another example, where the items dropping from creatures are not visible, until I reload, and can then loot the items. This has happened with nearly a dozen quests, and has become very frustrating.

I also should mention that I am someone who does every quest. While the main story quests do appear to be fine, more than half of the side quests have been buggy and completely lacking any enjoyment. You can also tell that one person is voice acting many of these side quests, making me wonder if they were an after thought. It would explain the numerous problems.

I cannot recommend this game, as it has numerous bugs that require constant resetting the game for quest items to be looted, mobs to appear, and other issues. I also cannot recommend this game due to the poor mechanics in playing the game, where player control is very poor, while requiring precision in tasks. This is a shame, because it does have a good main story, and character dialog, but it is wasted on this game.

For anyone that follows the borderlands series, this is a must play.
It sheds a different light on the overall story and had me reconsider who's side i was on.

Handsome Jack... I finally understand you!
