-4 Schwierigkeitsstufen
-automatische Speicherung
-meist gute KI
-gute Steuerung
-gutes Gameplay

Crysis 3 is a first-person sci-fi shooter developed by Crytek and published by Electronic Arts and released in February 2013. This review will cover the campaign, the Liberty Dome setting, and the gameplay mechanics.

If you find this review to be helpful, please leave a thumbs-up. I also have a review page here: http://steamcommunity.com/groups/AntwogReviews

Campaign

Crysis 3 continues the story from Crysis 2, where Karl-Ernst Rasch, who was the co-founder of Hargreave-Rasch Biomedical, was introduced to Prophet. In Crysis 3, Hargreave-Rasch has been rebranded as the CELL Corporation, which has grown considerably in power and influence and has installed the ‘Liberty Dome’ over New York City.

You continue to play as Prophet, who is now reunited with Psycho to support a liberation attempt against CELL. Prophet’s personality is fairly similar to predecessor games, blunt and to the point. The return of Pyscho provides freshness to the characters. His charm is usual and sarcasm needed, but surprisingly, I love the development of Psycho’s character that adds a traumatised element due to the broader narrative. Overall, I found stronger diversity and juxtaposition of the characters in Crysis 3 and definitely felt more focussed than the earlier games.

Crysis 3 features an eight-hour campaign, similar to Crysis: Remastered, but about two hours less than Crysis 2 and this is evident. I felt Crysis 3 rounds out on the broader Crysis series timeline, however I found a heavy reliance on journals and email conversation collectibles to fill the gaps, as Crysis 3 is featured 20 years’ after Crysis 2. While these collectibles are strongly written, an issue in the broader series is the focus on the developers continuing the narrative (and key plot lines) in the comic series, or otherwise, some smaller plot holes (i.e., what happened to Nathan Gould).

In addition to this, as Crysis 3 is two-hours less than Crysis 2, I felt there was room to build the context at the start of the game (and it would not have been out of place in the design of the missions), but ultimately, the story was action-packed and tightly told. With regards to the Alien Ceph, how they are written into Crysis 3 is logical. After
its wipe-out in Crysis 2,
they lack in numbers and as a result, use guerrilla warfare tactics, until
reinforcements arrive
. This is a nice wrinkle to them, especially after their overpowered nature in Crysis 1 and 2.

Setting and Graphics

The Liberty Dome feels, as expected, contained and limited, but seeing New York overgrown provides a jungle-like, luscious, and isolated environment complements the ‘’fight-back against the oppressor’’ narrative. This environment also feels like a hybrid of the jungles of Crysis 1 and the urban-warfare of Crysis 2, emphasised by the beautiful vegetation.

Graphically, New York is phenomenal, highlighted by the superb lighting and shadows reflected against the ruined buildings, as well as the water quality, so rich and detailed. I also found it nicely optimised and I did not recall any major bugs, glitches, or crashes. Playing on ‘high’ settings, I averaged about 65FPS throughout the campaign on an i5-6600K, GTX 1070, and 16GB ram.

Gameplay Mechanics

Crysis 3 enhances the mechanics foundations from Crysis 1, which were streamlined in Crysis 2 (which I liked). Crysis focusses on the introduction of a weapon, the Predator Bow, and a new hacking system. The Predator Bow enables you to play stealthy, which can be customised with different bolts. This addition is extremely fun and allows for a ‘shoot and relocate’ stealth style, however my concern is that the Predator Bow was at times, very easily caught out by the super attentive enemy AI.

On the other side, the hacking system enables you to hack enemy technology, such as stationed machine guns, to support you instead. It operates as a mini-games-like mechanic and it really is quite fun and is logical in the technology-advanced Crysis 3 world. Elsewhere, Crysis 3 offers skill upgrades as did Crysis 2, and while this is neat, both games do not make it easy to understand on the UI (e.g., have to scroll but can seemingly only select one in each skill category…).

Conclusion

Ultimately, Crysis 3 is a very enjoyable instalment in the Crysis franchise. It features an engaging, tight, and action-packed story, supported by well-written characters and strong character development. However, Crysis 3 is short and not as drawn out and paced as the more complete Crysis 2 and due to the extended timeline separating Crysis 2 and 3, it just felt like there was a lot of key story parts missed. That said, Crysis 3 has nailed the gameplay mechanics and the graphics are gorgeous, and more broadly, the game is optimised. For $39.95, I recommend this on sale.

This game pales in comparison to it's predecessor. The maps feel too big and completely pointless, allowing players freedom to roam aimlessly in the barren terrain. Seriously, I loved the 2nd game in the franchise but this title actually makes me mad and sad all at the same time. Not recommended.

Tbh I'm pretty disappointed in Crysis 3. It's alright, but it didn't expand at all on Crysis 2 gameplay-wise. There's the new bow and new suit upgrades, but the campaign is so short and ironically linear that you barely get a chance to switch things up, let alone use the many suit upgrades. And the game feels way too easy. Constant ammo supply, weapons everywhere so ammo conservation doesn't matter, you can basically just ignore the stealth mode if you want, or actually sneak through practically the whole game if you want. Not to mention enemies that were super tough and intimidating bosses in Crysis 2 are weakling in 3. There's also some technical issues with sound, and some sound design choices (specifically talking about firing single shots with weapons like the HMG) that weren't good.

If only the campaign was 2 hours long instead of 6, I could get a refund.

This game is frustrating. It has such well thought out gameplay ideas, only for them to be integrated into (mostly) uninteresting missions. Kind of like having the very best ingredients and choosing to do tacos with it, their potential will never be fully realized.

It peaks at mission 2-3 then it becomes a slog to play through. The alien invasion just makes a 180 that's far too sharp and way more boring in gameplay. You used to handle soldiers now you're taking on le powerful alien.

I am writing this after the Crysis Remastered Trilogy released and even though the game was made back in 2013, this graphics do still hold up to current day games even without the ray tracing stuff that the Remaster has. If you don't have an RTX GPU but have a relatively decent GPU like a 1080ti or something post 2017 (with at least 4 to 8GB of VRAM), then I recommend playing this version first so you can get the OG feel for it and then buy the remaster if you really like this version of the game because RTX will make this game and Crysis 2 look absolutely amazing.

Side Note: This game is very graphically intense so if you aren't sure of your PC's ability to handle the game, play at low settings first then advance the graphics settings upwards by one until you notice frame drops or stutters then go back down a notch or two. Enjoy

Crysis 3 is pretty much a more refined version of Crysis 2 with a stronger emphasis on stealth, with the addition of a bow you can use while cloaked and the ability to properly tag enemies to see them through walls. Though, if you wish to play aggressively, you can still do that, and it feels better than ever in the series due to some tweaks made to the gameplay, like how you no longer need to spend suit energy to sprint and slide. Those changes did a lot to push this game to something I genuinely find enjoyable, rather than something I find merely tolerable, which is how I felt about most of Crysis 2. What also definitely helped me enjoy this game more is its amazing movie-like soundtrack that’s very underrated.
And to continue with the tradition the Crysis series has set for releasing beautiful looking games for their time, Crysis 3 hasn’t disappointed at all. The game simply looks gorgeous, despite being from 2013. It was probably the prettiest game of that time and it still looks amazing to this very day.
Though, the game is still not without its issues.
Stealth still doesn’t feel as good as in other games, like Far Cry 3, due to a lack of takedowns, other than the basic “sneaking behind an enemy.”
The weapon variety is just as limited as in any of the other Crysis games.
AI is very easily exploitable with the tools provided to the player, making even hard mode relatively easy.
There are no Steam achievements, which is something that hurts replayability and makes the collectibles seem even more worthless.
The game, for some baffling reason, still doesn’t have a FOV slider.
And for as pretty as the game looks, it does suffer from very poor performance in some very specific spots, likely places where the game is set to load assets belong to the next areas.

That might seem like a decent number of issues, but I do not think those bad things outweigh the positives. This is, in my opinion, the best Crysis game, and I would recommend it to anyone who is into first-person shooters if you can find it on sale.

I'm a big fan of Crysis 1 & 2 and three follows in the same footsteps. Lots of weapons, lots of enemies, plenty of objectives and a few new and very dangerous enemies to deal with. so if you liked one and two have another with maximum armor and cloak engaged!

My brother recommended me this game as I was browsing steam store for a new game. I am a casual gamer and my brother usually my reference. He is not wrong. This is my 1st play for Crysis franchise and this game is amazing. It is so engaging that you are involved in it as if you are inside a sci-fi movie as the main character - Prophet. I almost in tears and sad when Claire is dead, she is nice. I like the dashboard setup where you can see all the required stats so you can briefly check especially during cloak. I upgrade the suit mostly on cloak and armor. It is easy to change weapons. The Bow is so cool that I use it a lot. What makes it more interesting, you can use alien weapon.. so, you never worried if you are out of bullet. I am glad for the happy-ending.. So, if you are a girl, casual player and enjoy playing 1st person player game, why not you try this game? you wouldn't disappoint. Hurmm, would it be a Crysis 4 next..

The game has great visuals, back in 2013 graphic quality was considered revolutionary. Although there are games with better visuals now, game is still pretty fun to go through. That being said, gameplay doesn't have much depth, you either one shot most of the enemies with your bow while hiding behind your invisibility cloak or go rambo with maximum armor. You occasionally need energy before taking out more enemies, so you take cover behind something and wait for energy to increase to use cloak or armor again. Weapons, except your bow, are pretty crap, it is hard to land headshots even with the best scope because crosshair is moving around too fast. If you are looking for a crazy FPS like Doom or Wolfenstein you won't find it here, but if you like shooters, I can say that it is an enjoyable game, but perhaps you might wanna buy it during a sale (it goes %75 off during a sale)

i want to start with the one bad thing. this game is incredibly unoptimized. i have a pc that can run far cry 5 on full graphics for hours without raising any heat. this game looks just as graphically enhanced. this game overheats the crap out of my rig. there may be some unoptimized parts of the game, and thats bad when you look at what crysis 2 can look like on the xbox 360.

other than that, its a great game. good story, fun gameplay. its a game where the story lies dominantly in the gameplay. sometimes its a cutscene, but the game makes you feel involved.

If you're looking for the open(ish) world fun of Crysis and the streamlined experience of Crysis 2, this is the place to go. For those new to the Crysis series, I really recommend playing 1 and 2, but especially 1, if you care at all about the story.

Overall Crysis 3 is much more faithful to the first Crysis game than Crysis 2 was by a long shot, while still simplifying the abilities and mods the way 2 tried to. Personally tied with 1 as my favorite out of the series. Although it doesn't have as much dicking around as the first one, there are still some of those huge battlefields that let you approach however you want, and the story is much better than 1 or 2 in my opinion - actually taking the time to develop Prophet and Psycho as characters, and to a lesser extent, the rest of the team from the first game. Retroactively, of course. Although the ending seems a little rushed story-wise, the gameplay there is solid and it's still worth getting there.

I can't say much about the multiplayer because I haven't played it in any of the Crysis installments, but it's definitely good as a singleplayer experience, so even if the multiplayer doesn't satisfy you it should still be worth it

Crysis 3 is a way below-average shooter. That's bad enough, but what's truly insulting about it is how transparently it tries to be every other early 2010s shooter with its largely pointless perk system, more linear mission design and tedious set-pieces.

Bonus points for having one of most grating sidekick characters in any game ever, though, it's genuinely impressive that they wrote something that annoying. He's like a cut character from an even-worse-than-normal Guy Ritchie film.

Absolutely nothing that made Crysis 1 and 2 good is in this game. Even if you're a series fan, you should steer clear. Endorsing this sort of shovelware just isn't worth the 4 hours it'll take you to finish it.

Crysis 2 was tons of fun and ran like a dream.
This installment of the franchise, on the other hand, not only requires you to install the smokin' hot turd known as Origin to play it, but it doesn't even run. My rig easily exceeds all of the system requirements, yet this dumpster fire of a game constantly crashes from the start menu and/or title screens.
Seriously, don't waste your money on this.

Immediate refund, I grew up with Crysis 2 and I loved the game, but this game is just a shitty console port.
Good luck finding a comfortable sensitivity, it goes up by 5's and Mouse Accel is on by default, only way I found that out is I found a guide on how to turn it off using console commands. And when I aim in, the sensitivity is higher than when I'm hip-firing.
There is no way I'm going to be able to comfortably play this on mouse and keyboard with the pathetic amount of settings customization.

Humanity is on the brink of all out destruction due to a technologically superior alien race. The only thing that stands between humanity and all out extinction is one man in a fancy suit. Does this sound familier? Because that's the extent of the plot. Halo with developmental delay problems. You've even got enemies that look like elites and hunters. If you've played 2, you've played 3. Though it is pretty at times.

And it's barely 7 hours long. MP is none existent and plays like a wish dot com version of COD MW.

Do not pay $30 for this. Do not pay $15 for it. You're paying more than a dollar an hour at $10. Sad.

At the moment, I don't want to recommend this game because it has performance issues on Windows 10, but runs better on windows 7. On windows 10 with high settings, you frequently get FPS drops under 20 frequently, even on good hardware like GTX 1080 or RT 6800 XT. I'd recommend playing something else instead. But the game is still good. Power suit, cool aliens, stealth, ruined jungle New York city environment with high tech army trying to control everything. Crysis 3 has a lot to offer and would be great if it would just run better...

So if you are still on Windows 7 or know how to set up a Windows 7 VM for gaming with with a GPU passthrough, don't hesitate to get this. Otherwise for everyone else, maybe get it on sale, if you aren't too bothered by framerate drops.

Its not terrible, but in gameplay aswell as story and characterdesign, it is worse than its predecessors.
No new gameplay elements, only go there, shoot that. Even crysis 1 had the no gravity mission.
No character developement in the main character, no memorbale antagonist, just a single military type sidekick with some personal issues, without much consequence or developement.
Honestly, if you havend played Crysis 1 / 2 play that. (and by crysis 1 on GOG, since steam never got around to update it to x64 bit operating systems, if memory serves correctly)

They buy out their competitors, infect governments, and enslave the planet's populace. Intro

As a teenager, I genuinely thought Crysis 2 is the coolest game in the world. The futurist nanosuit and weapons, stunning visual, memorable lines, great music, this whole package impressed me a lot. When Crysis 3 was about to come out, I still remember I was so envious of a friend of mine who could spend 60 euros (or 80 I don’t remember) on the Hunter Edition on day one. Later in 2014 I finally played the game. Love the predecessor as much as I do, I was not impressed by the third game. It was until recent I replayed it that I see why.

Presentation

This series is renowned for its graphics and the developer still did a good job in Crysis 3. Unlike many games that give you the “illusions” of good graphics by smartly using visual composition or light effects, this game just has absolute great graphics. Simply look at the texture, reflection and details of a stone or a grass, even today not many games can match this level of high fidelity. As for the sound design (music specifically), even without the involvement of Hans Zimmer (my favorite composer) this time, it still has one of the greatest video game soundtracks I ever listened. That being said, I do think the great presentation especially the visual side, covers many underlying flaws of this game.

Design

There are some problematic design stuff. Level design in Crysis 1 is bad because it made big, open, sandbox-like levels but putting a minimal amount of effort into the actual design. Some people said the second game has too linear level design, so Crysis 3 mixed these two styles together to make big and linear levels. In general, though levels are too big for my liking, level design is okay and way better than the first game. However, the last two levels are pretty terrible for being very predictable and repetitive since they are simply cleaning up enemies, triggering events and cleaning up spawned enemies again in a row. Second, I don’t understand why the developer made terrains so uneven. There are only two levels I can think of that happen on even ground. It is certainly realistic for a combat zone, yet the constant bumping up and down breaks the flow of the game. Third, the game is designed that only when you get very close enemies start to spawn. It is very bad since it is more like a defect and eliminates any chances to make use of distance. Also, if you are very far from enemies, you cannot do any damage to them even you shove a Gauss rifle round on their faces. Fourth, I appreciate the use of nanosuit HUD as a way to show power, environment and stuff, but the developer abused it by putting too many interferences in the HUD which either greatly distract you or block your vision. Last but not least, AI is reused from the last game without any improvement. The first game has a problematic AI that enemies can spot you very fast at a far distance. Crysis 2 improved it but still has the same problem. I overlooked it in Crysis 2 because the level design put lots of covers to offset it and that game doesn’t have many big levels for this to be a real problem. But this is Crysis 3 where has many gigantic levels. It is very annoying enemies can see you so far off, and enemies are still dumb enough to forget your whereabouts as soon as you turn invisible, which is another problem with Crysis 2 AI. On top of it, somehow even you kill one enemy stealthily, all enemies in the area will notice. It makes sense since the enemies all carry high-tech gears, but in gameplay perspective this is not fun and feels like a defect.

Balance

2013 is a strange year. Before this year, Jason from Far Cry 3 has a bow. Then Lara from Tomb Raider 2013 got hers and Prophet in this game also got one. This hunter bow is the iconic weapon of this game and it is very powerful. It fires arrows that can kill most enemies in one shot without breaking your invisible cloak, to the point that I think it breaks the game balance. One thing I like about Crysis 2 is that depending on your progress, enemy types and environments you are constantly changing to different weapons so most weapons have somewhere they are needed. But in Crysis 3, since the bow is so overpowered, you don’t really need other weapons. I get that the developer wanted to create a vibe that you are the ultimate hunter on the planet and they made it, but as an FPS tossing around weapons is actually one of the most fun parts of the game and that overpowered bow is not good for it. Also, with the bow, this game just becomes too easy (I played at veteran, the third difficulty out of five) losing all the challenges players were supposed to enjoy, and effectively making those upgrade perks and weapon customization useless.

Story

Let’s admit that Crysis series does not have a strong story, being the blockbuster movie equivalent of the video game, but the third game has an exceptional crappy one. The story is just too convenient and lazy, lacking some efforts to craft a plot that makes more sense. Thanks to the lazy plot, the game shows Prophet, the protagonist, as nothing but a giant stupidity and ruthlessness who could not stop talking about sacrifice and $hit. And for those memorable lines in the last game, they are exploited and abused, like what Westworld Season 3 did to Season 1 and 2. The game does have a somewhat interesting character Psycho (the protagonist of Crysis Warhead) from whom I would love to see more discussion of human identity in a machine like what Ghost in the Shell did (not the movie), but the story did not explore this and it is a missed opportunity. Additionally, this series suffers from story coherence. The background setting changes in different games and the story has an odd discontinuity, like the scriptwriters of the next game want to straight up murder the scriptwriters of the last one. The third game is the worst one, as the protagonist Alcatraz from the second game just conveniently vanished and replaced by Prophet who straight up resurrected from Alcatraz’s body. I really hate it. It is again, fμcking lazy, and creepy as hell.

Verdict

Crysis 3 is nowhere near a bad game, but it is stagnation, if not a step backwards, which is why I was not impressed. It might as well just be called Crysis 2 Part 2, as it essentially is the exact same as the last game with a new playground, some new weapons, a new story and some additional problems. It is the second time (Shadow of the Tomb Raider is the first time) I realize you can’t just make a new game and call it a sequel. It has to be improved from what has been achieved and has something genuinely new to offer. I guess this is why Valve doesn’t make the third game because it is way hard than the second game improving from the original.

There is news that Crytek wants to remaster all the Crysis games, which I see as an exploit and a desperate way to stay relevant. These games all have problems that a graphic overhaul cannot fix, and from what I see about Crysis Remastered, they screwed up the white balance this time. They might as well just make a new Crysis or some other new games.

Very lackluster and disappointing end to the trilogy, only redeeming quality is the graphics. Story is very generic and stupid with all that hivemind and alpha seph nonsense. The characters are super annoying and unlikable, especially Psycho. The gameplay is pretty much identical to Crysis 2 and i thought everything about that game was just very average. The game has boring linear level design and it tries to open up more in the second half but it still feels pretty restrictive overall with it's gameplay limitations. This is an easy skip.

Ok so I wanted to play this game series for years but never had the chance because I haven't owned a gaming pc with good spects until now to run it properly.Seriously,I don't have any words to describe how this series made me feel.I've been a gamer for many years and non of the games I've played so far made me a HUGE enthusiast like Crysis..I'm not an easy person to be so touched by a game. Its graphics, texture, story, background music..like everything is in an absolut perfection that covers every single bug or glitch(which I found them funny, even in Crysis Remastered but that is another case). It surpassed my expectations for sure, gave me a gaming experience that makes me wanna play the campains of each again and again on their hardest mode.So real, that tricks your brain to get yourself in the game being there in every situation that occurs. It's so underestimated for no valid reason, almost non of today's games are able to reach Crysis's level and I wouldn't call myself exaggerated on this one.Every time I try to play something the first thing I look for is music and story. From Crysis to Crysis 3,I must admit the gameplay just kept getting better and better. When I finished the series for the first time, tears fell down on my cheeks from being emotionally affected by the story along with its music.Generally, when I play something my emotions are not hidden easily...Crysis made me laugh, cry, fear or feel anger when I was stuck on missions.Crysis 2 is well-known for its theme and agreed and the funny thing is that I catch myself listening to it a lot of times.Personally,my favorite is Crysis 3,mostly because of its visuals,story-part(I'm saying part because my belief is it's needed to play the previous parts so you can have the events in order) and ending.Every character is well made, worth reading their backgrounds, makes you more familiar with them. Also,it's a must mentioning that Crysis evolves your skills, such as aim, working with strategy and learning new tactics, even sharpening your reflexes in fps games... and I guess in real life?I don't know about this one but on me I've noticed my reflexes kinda improved maybe I'm mistaken. All I can say is this game series is worth to try out and believe me for those who love good graphics or like sci-fi,fps and first-persons will show love to this game as much as I do right now and call it a favorite game.I wish for seeing Crytek rapidly scaling and do even better as they won my heart justifiably and I have so many ideas to share or even work with them but that's just a far dream.Needless to say, as a soon to be streamer I'm looking forward to playing all Crysis and other games that are made by Crytek. You've won my very first review.Thank you so much for waking me from this monotony and bringing back my gamer mode to its maximum.

I don't care what people say, Crysis franchise is still one of the best shooters and I'll keep replaying them over and over. Good thing about this is, as years go by you end up with better hardware and can bump those low settings to medium.

Years after, game is still glowing.

+ Awesome graphics.
+ Nice conclusion to the series.
+ Soundtracks. Sound effects. Atmosphere.
+ I love using bows in general. It adds a good stealth option to approach the enemies.

- Suit upgrades are not that worthy.
- Secondary missions feel so unnecessary when you reach the late game.
- Sometimes a tad bit boring.
- Terrible optimization.

Maximum Speed, Maximum Strength, Maximum Armor

These words defined what gamers were looking for back then when they needed a way to test their gpu and graphic card to the limit. The first Crysis game was a milestone in terms of graphics and gaming technology. Now, with Crysis 3, the last game in the series, do these standards still hold up?

Plot

You are Prophet, the old leader of the special unit who used to wear the infamous Nano Suit: an exoskeleton made of Alien technology that allows the one wearing it to have incredible fighting powers, such as invisibility, super strength, super armor and more. The Nano Suit has a strong connection with an ancient Alien race know as the Ceph.
In a near future where most of humanity was annihilated, a powerful corporation known as CELL dictates how the remaining humans shall live or die. In this dystopic future, Prophet awakes from his comatose sleep and joins the rebellion against the corporation Cell, knowing that somewhere the Aliens Ceph remains asleep...

Graphics

This is where Crysis really shines: the graphics are amazing in this game. The desolated landscape of the city ruins, combined with the nature surrounding it is pure eye candy. Many time during the game I just stopped the action just to look at how the light shines over the buildings and cliffs, how realistic the water splashes when you dive in it. Overall, this game is very pretty to see and that might alone be a reason to play: just to admire the landscape.

Gameplay

Now here things are kinda bitter sweet. Some gameplay mechanics are good, like the Wheel of special abilities working kinda like in Crysis 1, but with the upgrades from Crysis 2. Other than that, it’s your standard modern shooter: you can’t take too much damage, gotta find some cover to hide and the shoot from it. To mix things up, you have the cloak (invisibility) mechanic, which allows you to GO full predator and strike the enemies from behind. You also have the armor mode, which allows you to GO full Rambo and actually tank damage. But then again, those abilities are tied to an energy meter, which depletes really fast, so you run out of energy pretty often during combat, which makes the game return to the Call of Duty logic of cover-and-shoot.
On a side note, they seem to have tried to expand this energy system by giving the player a high tech bow, which allows you to fight and shoot while remaining invisible, but the ammunition for Said bow is extremely rare in the game, so it’s kinda useless...

Verdict

Overall, Crysis 3 is a pretty solid and action packed shooter, with amazing visuals, good gameplay and decent story. I Just wish the energy and special abilities didn’t have such a limited use. The game would be more fun if you could actually go full Ironman with you suit...

It's... okay, worth getting if you've played the first two. I finished it mostly for the story, the gameplay isn't all that exciting. Often times I found the lack of contrast between enemies and the landscape very difficult, I'd have to use the visor to mark them just to know what I was shooting at.

A small note: My hours aren't accurate. I played all the time on the XB360 (even if I was never very good) so I do know what I'm talking about.

Regarding the story, it's solid. Not the next greatest thing, but it had its moments and was fun to play through. Characters felt believable, but you might need to play the prior Crysis games to understand some of them a little better. The game can be played standalone, however, as I first did.

While I'm not a fan of the Ceph (the alien race) and combat with them, I very much enjoyed fighting the human opponents. This holds true for all the Crysis games, in my opinion (with the possible exception of Warhead - I haven't played that)

Combat feels responsive, despite being seemingly outdated (especially the controls - there's no option to make sprint and crouch toggled by holding, versus tapping) and pretty great when you get something right. The added layer of strategy and complexity added via the Nanosuit's special features (stealth, armour and the default mode which slightly enhances speed) make the game a gem in this regard.

The graphics stand tall, even today. There's a reason that (the first) Crysis was so hard to run, and it seems to have been optimised with Crysis 3. While they aren't top-tier nowadays, the graphics in this game are strong even compared to games released well after it (for reference, Crysis 3 was released in 2013. Graphics have come a long way since then!)

I have a bit of a bias against Multiplayer, so take this paragraph with a grain of salt.

I would highly discourage you from playing Multiplayer unless you really like playing the same map and mode constantly. There's exactly one ranked server (the only way to gain new items) and it almost always has the same two maps and the same gamemode, due to a lack of players. As a new player, expect half of your lobby to be filled with Level 50 players and (if you're bad at FPS games like me) to have an average kill/death ratio of less than a half. There are other servers active, but most (including the ranked server) disable Nanosuits and have few players on at once. Because the Nanosuits are disabled, the time to kill is incredibly low (you have no time to react, unlike when you could tank a couple of bullets with Armour Mode previously) and your movement is severely diminished.

There are players who massively enjoy no-Nanosuit gameplay, but I'm not one of them. I'm (as I said prior) biased against the mode, I admit, but if you still want to play multiplayer you'll be able to get used to it.

Crysis 3 is a strong, enjoyable sandbox FPS. It blends stealth and action together remarkably well. It shares many of the same mechanics and the same general design ideology from Crysis 2, so it will feel especially comfortable if you prefer it over the original (like me). The only real flaws with Crysis 3 are that it's the shortest game in the series, many weapons are severely underutilized, and it has a weak finale.

Like Crysis 2, you only have two toggleable modes for the suit, with a focus on armor and cloak. Cloak has seen a severe buff in this game, with more upgrades and the introduction of the ability to maintain cloak while firing a weapon. A bow has been added to your roster that greatly spices up stealth (more in the next paragraph). It's more streamlined than the original, but it keeps a more constant flow and smooth transition between stealth and combat.

A bow has been added to your arsenal (and it permanently occupies your third weapon slot). The bow is significant because it is capable of firing without depleting your cloak. This is somewhat broken early on in the game, but it keeps stealth more viable for much longer. I had some real fun with the hit and run tactics it encouraged. I particularly liked the electric arrows, even if they're a little underpowered and mechanically underutilized.

However, the addition of the bow seems to come at the cost of a lot of other weapons in your arsenal. The bow is straight up superior to many weapons and makes silenced weapons far less important. A lot of weapons hold very little ammo, and roughly a third of the weapons and attachments in the arsenal appear only once or twice throughout the whole game. Most weapons are holdovers from Crysis 2 with the exception of the Typhoon, which is an SMG with a 720 bullet magazine that can empty the whole mag in roughly a second. Shame that there were few weapon additions beyond these two because they're both genuinely fun and unique.

As I noted before, the level design is generally similar to Crysis 2. It's relatively linear, but it gives you opportunities to explore and offers multiple ways to traverse nearly any situation. Combat is always viable and stealth is viable throughout the majority of the game (final level aside). Ultimately, I don't think the game favors either playstyle too strongly over the other.

There are a couple things I dislike about this game. The final level is awful, being far too linear, combat-heavy, and rather visually uninteresting. Vehicles are rather underpowered and tend to spontaneously explode. The game messes with your HUD a lot, which is really obnoxious when you need to keep track of how much energy you have. You can get invincibility powerups, later on in the game, but it's hard to tell when you have it and when it expires because the visual cues are almost non-existent.

Overall, I really enjoyed Crysis 3. It feels like it was just the right length, and it'll likely take the average player roughly 7-9 hours to beat. If you liked Crysis 2, you'll enjoy this for sure. I'd recommend it in general if you're simply looking for a new stealth/action sandbox FPS to play.

I'e only played for 2 hours so far. I was forced to install the crappy Origin platform to play which took over an hour on my slow network. Then, today, when I was trying to get into the game, it tells me I have to update origin but gives me the option to continue in offline mode. Which was a huge LIE. It requires online mode to play any games you own, like Crysis 3. So I had to go back through the steps to force an update just to be allowed to play my fking game.

Would I recommend Crysis 3? I don't know yet. Would I recommend buying it? No, because its EA. And they want to force you to use their crappy platform at all costs which is filled with advertisements.

EDIT:
I just finished the game, story is less than 8 hours and is a bit meh, played on normal difficulty because other difficulties just make you die more rather than tell more story.

The Visor kinda sucks because you can't uncheck things you accidentally highlighted while glancing past them so you get tons of icons all over your screen.

The game's got several glitches like weapons getting stuck in a specific mode or not being able to fire for a while.

The game places stuff in dumb places that make no sense, like your arrows. Why the hell would the enemy who doesn't use arrows, be packing boxes of arrows around the camp for you to refill on? Are they just making sure you have plenty of ammo to kill them with? Wtf. Down in the tunnels underground there's a spot of neatly laid out boxes of ammo and stuff for you, because clearly after falling deep underground there's gonna be free weapons and ammo there waiting for you~

End game boss was stupid easy. Just run up and grab an invulnerability field and stand there for a bit then blast it with your alien mortar. Do this three times, you win.

Game loaded final space level as if it was an actual level but nope it wasn't. You click fire once and boom you win. No actual level to it, which would have been cool but nah thats too complex for EA.

Lots of boring dumb crap, mediocre at best. A pretty Crysis style world with not much else to it.

I like Crysis, forget the graphics aspect and just enjoy it as it is. I have all other in my library as standalone from Origin and that's great. they launch great, they play great.

I bought the third and was expecting to complete the collection on Steam and then came Origin. It launched the first time and never again. The clutter of another launcher is too much to bear, I barely have spce in the notifications area as it is, Please publish without Origine. I'll buy again.

Otherwise, if you don't mind the extra steps (2 or 3) go for it. It is visually appealing, not as flexible as Crysis 1 and 2 but still good looking and fun, as long as you don't expect a great story or difficulty. It's just a plain senseless fps

For the 6 to 7ish hour campaign I basically paid a little over a dollar per hour of content. A decent ratio. Fun triple A set piece laden action campaign. Despite the Can it Run Crysis memes, I have never played Crysis 1 before and played only a bit of 2 before getting bored. Even then the story in 3 was perfectly serviceable as an end to the trilogy. Not actually sure if this version of the Cryengine is optimized for current hardware. On a 6700k and 2080 super I could not even hold a constant 40 fps on the first mission despite tweaking settings on 3440x1440. I guess all that rain is really taxing for some reason. The rest of the game runs fine.

Also there is multiplayer still and I was able to find 1 single populated server in Germany. Even with 150 ping it was more than playable.

Lastly, I ran into an incredibly niche game breaking bug. The game would constantly crash to desktop and after much searching it turns out it was due to bloatware that my Asus motherboard came with of all things. Be sure to close Sonic Studio 2 if that is on your system

great great fun! i love it!

I bought Crysis 1 remastered and I really regret that. Crysis 1 remastered is really not so good. Gun play is horrible, graphics not optimized well. It's well documented in forums everywhere, I was too quick to believe reviews on gaming sites and youtube etc.

However, Crysis 3 is so good! Graphics is great, gun play is great.. levels are great.. it's linear but the levels are open, you can approach them differently.. go here and there.. different angles to shoot. Love it!!!

Crysis 3 is quite fun and challenging stealth action game. If you are playing on harder difficulties, it's more stealth based and if you are playing on easy it's basically just a shooter.

Unsurprisingly, the game is just more entertaining if it's more about shooting and less about hiding. As usual, most upgrades are action oriented and not stealth related, however enemy weapons were far too powerful to just go in guns blazing.

The graphical fidelity is quite amazing, even half a decade later the game still looks stunning and runs like trash. I really shouldn't be getting below 20 fps on a 2019 GPU.

The graphics quality is also tied into the gameplay, the game world looks almost too realistic, as if realism was more important than the gameplay. Enemies can spot you from the far side of the map and once they do every soldier instantly knows your location. This was kind of an issue, since environments are too cluttered, so enemy soldiers are hard to make out.

Perhaps that's the main challenge of the game or this is its way of laughing at me.

Boy oh boy have I been a fan of this series since it first came out. Amazing gameplay and still stunning to look at even in 2020. Really cool gun mechanics and the best part about it is the stealth cloaking ability of the nano suit for smart approach and armor mode for intense action. You can actually feel fear and can get connected to the characters if you are here for the story. Gotta lot of action and there are many ways a player can tackle situations. Get this game if you wanna use that brain of yours.

One of my most favourite games of all time. Grew up playing Crysis franchise that I bought on CDs, it has been an amazing experience, it still is. The graphics, the voice-acting, the soundtracks and mostly importantly the epic Nanosuit (especially with the stealth bow in Crysis 3) are the highlights of this franchise. It doesn't matter whether Crysis 1 story-line is better than 3's, I still love all of them. I've dragged a few of my close mates into playing Crysis and they started to love this, too! The only issue I have is with Crysis Warhead (sorry Psycho), he's an amazing character to play (a little bit of spoiler ahead) but for someone who's too used to Crysis 3 Nanosuit, Warhead's can be frustrating to me. Regardless, it is still an amazing expansion of Crysis. Also, the multiplayer of Crysis 3 is an absolute banger. Haven't been playing much on Steam since I was finishing my data on the CDs but will continue for sure.
10/10, I would definitely buy more if there's any sequels/reboots coming out in the future.

A pretty mediocre instalment, and a step back from the 2nd game in my opinion.

All of the environments feel samey -dark, gloomy swamps with nothing really memorable about them. The music is very bland and uninteresting. It didn't hook me like the 2nd one did. Towards the end it just felt like a chore to play and just had to stop.

One thing I'll give it credit for is the graphics. It's amazing that a game from 2013 looks this good. I had to set all the settings to low to get decent performance, and even the 'low' settings look as good, if not better, than many games today.

My conclusion if you are fed up with all these openworld FPS games that are openworld just for the sake of it and want to have a more linear experience that still provides you with some different ways on how to tackle a objective it should be worth your money and time.

This is not about the game particularly, I might add the game review part later, I'm sure I'm going to love every moment of it. The game itself is, well, Crysis with a bow and even better graphics than it was possible to run in 2013 (and still is on my budget 2017 build), we all know that.

This is a personal story of greed.

Seeing the game on sale on both Steam and Origin, I took the opportunity to save extra $4, knowingly, after seeing comments about Origin client being required. While waiting for the game to be downloaded, a cunning plan was devised, to add the game to Origin library and cut the middle man Steam (sorry) out of the equation, while still beating Origin price.

All went well, the existing account was entered in a fresh redundant instance of Origin, the game was added to the library. That left me with just 2 tasks: wipe Steam version and install the Origin one.
In fact Crysis 3 was added as a Steam game
Boy did that whole thing backfire. After wiping the game, I opened the Origin, hit the magic button.. only to see Steam installer pop up on top of Origin window.

I can't possibly tell how it all works now, but launching the game from Steam still brings Origin up, which is actually not the worst issue for me. Launching the game from Origin first launches Steam, then jumps back into Origin, and only then the game opens.

I'm not even mad at this point, I have 6 launchers installed right now, this is kinda impressive and is easily the most screwed up setup for a game I made because of $$$$

For your own sake, get it on Origin and accept the fate of having a launcher for each large videogames studio.

EDIT:
spent a few minutes launching the game from both sources with a timer, it actually takes equal amount of time to jump launcher to launcher either way ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Did not enjoy this one as much as Crysis 1 and 2. Feels more similar to Crysis 2 than 1 gameplay-wise, but I didn't like the plot in this one nearly as much as 2. The twist in 2 was more interesting and I guess I liked the characters a bit better. I didn't really like the characters in this one and Psycho felt off compared to his personality in the first game. He seemed a lot more serious and bitter, which is probably on purpose to imply character progression but I wasn't feeling it.

The game felt very short despite the campaign taking roughly the same amount of time as the other entries in the series. This was likely due to the levels all feeling roughly the same with little variety in look, even more so than Crysis 2. There aren't a lot of twists and turns in the plot either so I think knowing the final objective so far in advance made me realize how little time it took to actually get there. At least the enemies were fairly varied (about 6 different types or so).

Other thoughts: The bow didn't help mix up the combat at all for me and I ended up barely using it except as another source for explosives. The suit progression also felt worse in this entry compared to 2. I couldn't motivate myself to go and search for the suit upgrades and I much preferred getting points to spend in 2 with no exploration required.

''wanna play hide and seek? SHOW YOURSELF!''

lol, probably the dumbest dialogue ever heard in a game.

other than that, brilliant game, the graphics are still impressive 7+ years on.

edit: the campaign is great! really underrated in my opinion!

...but, can it run Crysis?

In the case of Crysis 3, you don't have to have a powerful gaming rig to get the game to barely run. The origin of that meme doesn't lie in how much of a graphical powerhouse the first Crysis was, but in how poorly optimized its engine was. That Crysis 3, a game that looked somewhat ahead of its time, doesn't need a beast to run on Ultra is the ultimate indication of what this game is. It's a progression of the ideas established in the first game.

Its story might as well be action movie junk food and its characters particularly unmemorable, but it's a pretty good shooter while it lasts. The one issue many people are going to have with its release on Steam is that it requires Origin, but I don't mind this. I mean, it works. Origin isn't as versatile as Steam is and if having too many launchers for your games triggers your need for more organization, I understand that, but it's functional and I haven't had any issues with it so far.

***

EDIT: Since this review is gaining more traction than I expected, I should clarify: just because I haven't had any issues with Origin-repackaged Steam games doesn't mean that it's a flawless method of game delivery impervious to all issues. If you cannot get it to work for any reason that I haven't had to face, that's valid. Also worth noting, I cut down on some of the hyperbole here.

A reluctant thumbs up. Wasn't as good as I was hoping. I really enjoyed the first 2 games, especially the 2nd one, but this 3rd game is a bit average. The graphics are obviously hardcore and it's a very good looking game for 2013, it'll still make your pc sweat. Aiming was the biggest problem for me with this game, it just felt sloppy and inaccurate. Whenever I scoped in, it felt like my mouse dpi went from 1100 to 11000.....I cound't hit s**t. And the end boss fight was just painful. It's not a bad game, it's just not that good either. Definitely wait for a sale and grab it cheap.

The game is fine so far but I have to say, and this might seem like a petty gripe, but I really HATE when a game makes me download a second launcher to play the game. I don't want to install god damn Origin... I need another game launcher like I need a hole in my head. EA is just awful

I really had fun playing this. The story was pretty good, but the campaign is kind of short. Within a week or so I was on the last level already. I loved the predator bow. There's nothing like taking down a helicopter with an explosive arrow to make you feel awesome. The game has a pretty good variety of weapons and mods you can make to weapons to keep in interesting. I like the way I can even choose if I want to use my armor and run through my enemies or go stealth and shoot the enemies with the predator bow or knock them out from behind.

The only thing that really disappointed me about this game was that the campaign seems pretty short.

The game is beautiful, as are all Crysis games, but there are a few issues that make it not so enjoyable. You'll have to make an EA origins account and login into that EA thing every time you want to play. The weapon selection controls absolutely suck and make it hard to pick the weapon you want efficiently. And now to the reason why I uninstalled and requested a refund: this game has a longstanding bug where your Windows mouse cursor appears ingame, which you can't get rid of without restarting Crysis, losing your progress since the last checkpoint.

Introduction

Crysis series, especially the first game and its expansion, always had a special place in my heart, as I played it a lot on the original disk, and the following games always left me with conflicted feelings. On one side, the 2nd game got better with its story-telling and music, but the large open levels got replaced with more linear levels, and the multiplayer got completely redesigned. Now, with the third game, it seems that it exactly does not know what it wants to do. It tries to do a bit more open levels, but it restricts you at the same time. It gives you quite a lot of tools to play with, but not enough time to experiment with them all. To put it shortly, in the single-player, it tries to combine everything the series did before, but it ends up not being best at anything.

Single-player

Story

The campaign takes place 24 years after the events of the previous game, and, unfortunately, this approach was not best at all for the story. One of the main themes is how it would look if the human mind, Nanosuit, and alien technology would connect into each other. That could be interesting if the game did it properly. There is no real depth in these thoughts, and throughout the story, it just randomly works how the writes wanted it. And as the game is short, the events are just happening way too fast, which is already bad as the game takes so many years after the latest one. Even the new characters or the returning ones are just forgettable. Several things get explained in collectible notepads, but those do not work when you are trying to tell a story via cutscenes. The previous game did a lot better job with that, so it is a shame that this one is just a bland, dull, and forgettable mess.

Gameplay

I finished the game’s campaign in 7 hours, and I did a bit of exploring, playing on the highest difficulty setting. As the game has quite more open levels, you can always choose at least two or three paths, but in the end, it is still strictly linear game. You can go guns blazing or stealthily, both against human and alien enemies.

Your Nanosuit allows you to be faster and stronger than your enemies, as you can jump on heights that are not accessible for them, or throw barrels at them. You can also activate armour mode to resist more damage or your cloak mode to become invisible. All those powers are upgradable with a few perks, but the problem is that they are not much special, and you can easily beat the game without it. As it is custom in the series, you can change your weapon’s attachments, like scope, barrel (like silencer), and underbarrel (like grenade launcher). The new addition, bow, allows you to pin enemies to trees, and it also has explosive and electricity arrows. You can also use alien weapons, and although they are effective, I found them quite boring to use, as most of them are just way too powerful. And hacking allows you to turn turrets and mines against your enemies or exploit aliens' weak points.

Unfortunately, even with all of the aforementioned tools, the game is still just a short average first-person shooter with several other problems. Even the highest difficulty setting is just not hard enough. The AI is dull, and it is a few poor scripts that will not do you any harm at all. Their tactics are mostly being in cover until you kill them or just randomly rush you without any proper thought. And they forgot about your presence often, which makes the game easier. The enemies are supposed to know that you are the largest threat because of your Nanosuit. So one would expect that they have something up their sleeve to make your life miserable, it is the 3rd game in the series, after all, Nanosuit exists for several years now. That is not what is happening in this game, as they have nothing but EMP grenades. Those would be annoying, as they disable your suit abilities completely, so you are as vulnerable as them now. Well, during my playthrough, they used them only four times. I would even forget that they have those grenades if they did not accidentally hit me one time with it. I would expect that they would try to get me out of cover with them, combining it with regular grenades, to force move constantly, but that is not happening. That is not better with aliens, who are supposed to be super-advanced squids with powerful technologies, yet they still forget your existence when you run three meters away. It is kinda disrespectful towards our squids, as they are way more intelligent, therefore, the goldfish-like design would be more appropriate. To be fair, aliens have at least several enemy types, so in that regard, they are more interesting to fight. The enemies are also incompetent for roaming the more open locations, so they are just confusingly moving around. So, to make it short, when I choose the hardest difficulty setting, I expect the enemies to go after me, so I have to fight for my life, and not that I change a position two times, which makes them forgot about me. And that is all without using the invisibility mode because with it the game is so much easier, that it is just laughable. I would not mind if the game was like this on the easiest setting but on the highest difficulty?

You can also use some vehicles on a few levels, and you even become a gunner in a VTOL. However, in the first game, you could fly those things manually, and there were more vehicles for you to use, like various cars, boats, and tanks. It just shows how more simple the third game actually is. Just because you can upgrade your armour resist by 20% or make your steps lighter does not make for a more complex game. It is about possibilities and options, which this game does not really provide.

Audiovisuals & Performance

To give credit where it is due, the game still looks fantastic for a 2013 game, and it is definitely an improvement from the 2nd game, which looked so bland most of the time. The environment combines New York and jungle, and it is quite cool and unique, however, when you visit an alien environment, it just looks so generic. Unfortunately, some effects, like grass movement, are animated in 30 frames per second which is annoying, especially if you play the game in 60 or more fps. At least the soundtrack is great, and other sounds effects are of good quality, as well. The game was tested with an i5 8300H, GTX 1060 6GB, and 16GB RAM, running at the highest settings at 60 frames per second, at 1920x1080 resolution.

Multi-player

Unfortunately, the game’s multiplayer is empty, as there are just a few people playing it. I was glad that I could find at least one server with more people. There are typical game modes, like deathmatch, domination, and a few special ones. However, the gameplay here feels off, and even graphics look worse than in the campaign. Although the maps are quite well made for the Nanosuit movement, the rest of the game just feels like a F2P shooter with added Nanosuit powers.

Conclusion

Crysis 3 is not a bad game, it is just an average shooter with great audiovisuals but graphics are not everything. Its campaign is too short, its story is uninteresting, its characters are forgettable, its gameplay has many shortcomings, and its multiplayer is dead. Is this game still enjoyable? Sure, even with all the negatives, I enjoyed my time with it, but it is worth the full price or even the 10€ for which it is on sale now? If you are a Crysis fan, then probably yes. If you never played the Crysis game before, then either start with previous cheaper titles or look for another FPS game.

bar the fact that like bethesda games, you need to launch a lite version of the origin launcher, alongside alt tabs when stuff happens on the desktop for no reason....

the game is dope. runs well enough, and full draw bow or gtfo.

get it on sale.

It was a cool experience (aside from Origin creating softlocks with msi afterburner... whatever) but I don't recommend it. The game is by far the lesser entry in the Crysis franchise, 1 and 2 (no matter which one you prefer) were much better games.

This one feels a bit shallow and suffers heavily from being a product of the xbox 360 era, you can feel they tried their best, but the level design is extremely constrained and insultingly full of invisible walls.

I did my playthrough in maximum difficulty (post human warrior) and the game is MUCH easier than Crysis 1 or 2 in their respective difficulties. Cloak is kind of weak, but oh boy Armor is OP. It is so OP I can't think how easy it is in easier difficulties. If you die it is basically only because you forgot to activate Armor mode, or that you need to improve your efficiency at energy management.

It's not the worst game in the world, but it feels so shallow, it sadly doesn't have much going for it, even it's graphics feels a bit... weird and unequal, most of the time it's quite good, but other times it looks.. weird and dated even for it's time. For example the animated vegetation is hardcoded at 30 FPS and it looks very stuttery, and water reflections are very ugly SSR mixed with low quality cubemaps. The game feels like a console game with a super HD enhance pack slapped over it but not a true PC game, if that makes sense.

Also for some reason this game is super dark, had to put my brightness (ingame and monitor) to 100 and it was still dark ! This makes things really hard to see at times and can cause a bit of a headache.

You're immersed in a beautiful world that rewards you for exploration and the game mechanics work wonderfully. You have the ability to customize what abilities you want to suit your particular playstyle. Do you want to be an invisible hunter with an insta-kill bow? Or do you want to be an absolute tank, absorbing all the bullets and shooting back just as hard? To top it off, it comes with an immersive story and some memorable characters. In my opinion, it's a must-have shooter.
