Über das Spiel

Deadfall Adventures
Abenteuer von 2013.
1.300ste Game in meinem Archiv.

Deadfall Adventures
Adventure from 2013.
1,300th game in my archive.

Deadfall Adventures is an action-packed first person shooter, spiced up with elements from action-adventure games. Become an adventurer, hunt for treasure, explore unknown regions of the world and save your comrade from the clutches of your worldly and not so worldly enemies. Join James Lee Quatermain on his journey around the globe! So much for the advertising.

You will be transported back to the year 1938 and have constant problems with fascists and Stalinists, how well you have an extra nice company, this makes the whole blast and the search for treasures much more pleasant.

From a game-wise point of view, it is a well-whisked pulp of everything that the developers can think of. A little shooter (not exactly innovative), a lot of action (quite varied), a few puzzles (rather simple), searching and collecting (consistently standard and not that exciting), tinkering (everyone can do it), finding and defusing traps (really well done) and a lot more and that in first person.

I especially like the locations that are scattered all over the world, as well as the good story, which is in the most beautiful B-movie style
are playable here.
The game offers stereotypes in partly historically misrepresented surroundings and clothing. But the whole thing is so trashy that it invites you to play several times.
Is a lover game, good for beginners and people who want to be entertained.

22.10.2014:

Also…

Fazit:

If you like Indiana Jones or Quatemain movies (his grandson is the main character in this game), chasing greedy for ancient knowledge Nazis, Soviets, fighting mummies, solving puzzles or riddles, looking for treasures, shooting and wandering around - this is something that may satisfy you. But remember, this game was released in 2013.
Graphics - 7/10 (2013)
Music - it does its job - 7/10
Plot - ok...maybe 6,5/10, it is quite simple - just like in adventure movies it only can be (maybe not only, but often)
Guns - 9/10 - quite a wide selection of weapons with different properties - I recommend Fedorov automatic rifle :)
The in-game image resolution is quite poor.

Positive surprise, clone of Indiana Jones but made right and with guns! Visiting Egypt is just a prologue, later also more frozen places and America... but no more spoilers, puzzles are easy but sometimes not much intuitive, i needed to use journal as a hint. AI is dumb, but anyway gameplay is fun - buy and play just for story. Graphically looks okay, played 4k and all maxed and despite age and funny looking faces of Germans and Russians as your enemies, all look good. Story was quite interesting and ending satisfactory. Worth getting on a sale :)

Absolutely fantastic game, especially for Gen X-ers who grew up loving Indiana Jones or just the sort of players who still love a globe trotting story, full of danger and forgotten places.

DA really surprised me. Though I suppose it's shouldn't. Solid combat and level design, and a few REALLY cool set pieces. Voice is decent, and character design is quite good.

Worth it at full price, an absolute STEAL on sale.

Even if it doesn't sound like your thing, ANY FPS fan would be well served if they are looking for a Story Based Shooter, that isn't a military FPS.

I bought this game based on the steam reviews: y'all let me down. What a completely uninteresting and generic game. The characters are annoying, the story is forgettable, and the gameplay is boring at best. The puzzles in particular are awful, what a perfect way to kill any pacing that had been built up.

VERDICT:
This is the most mediocre game I think I've ever played, Deadfall Adventures plays absolutely fine but that's where the trail ends abruptly. The story looks pretty good but when It's played and acted out like this? It ruins the game for me, which is sad because the trailer looks decent.

The puzzles are fairly simple, aside from one or two. Again, I felt bored doing more than half of these and at this point I was praying the FPS was going to be fun.... it wasn't. Seen it all before in other titles. I shouldn't be too hard on this game considering is was made in 2013 but I didn't enjoy this very much and I doubt many others will either.
Total Score = 39/100.

A pretty good Indiana Jones Simulator. It has it all:

  • Trapped spooky ancient temples galore
  • World travel to exotic locations where you will do things that make real archaeologists weep
  • Impossibly old puzzles made out of vines, twigs and stones that somehow keep working after centuries
  • Stereotype Nazis after your treasure or powerful artefacts, straight out of Indy and everything that copies Indy
  • Lets you play as the tough guy fighting and shooting his way through crazy odds and surviving
  • The Girl you want to win over and can show you up when it is most dramatic or comedic
  • Leaping across chasms and ducking out of the way of boulders and swinging blades
  • Mummies and assorted things that refuse to be properly dead

The gun play is pretty fun. It's a nice conversion of a console shooter. Decent graphics for the time, nice effects and gameplay ideas. Atmospheric locations that are fun to explore. Lots of secrets to discover (very appropriate for the theme too).

Poor mans Indiana Jones fps.
Mediocre in every aspect.
Puzzles are poor and in many cases time consuming.
Not many weapons.
Annoying checkpoints...

Graphics are nice and levels look unique and pretty but it's just corridor schooter.

You can get it with good discount, but only if you really need another mediocre fps.

RECOMMENDED ONLY IF ON SALE!!!!
A bit of an average game. A fps mixed with puzzles. Entertaining though somewhat basic story line. Could use a bit more depth but not terrible.
The gameplay itself is a bit bad and you play more for the storyline. The shooting is always a bit weird. The weapon selection doesn't always make sense (a mixture of WWII weapons but dispersed amongst everyone.... why are Germans carrying Thompsons?).
You cannot stealth play in this game as the enemy seem to see you instantly and the encounters feel heavily scripted.
And also for some reason you can't swim..... the water is always for some reason poisonous to you.... I feel is more a cheap trick by the developers so they don't need to go that far with the game development.

Not a terrible game but so much wrong with it.

This game is fucking terrible! A decent time if you have a high tolerance for fuckery. It's endearing, but has a lot wrong. Bad models, good environments. Decent gunplay, terrible feedback for most interactions. Extremely punishing gameplay loop; You are often met with instant-death as a consequence, and the autosaves are not generous. The voice acting and cutscenes in general feel like something you'd find in the Garry's Mod community forum.

Deadfall Adventures starts with you escorting an NPC character that stays with you throughout the game, a strong outspoken female character named Jennifer Goodwin, to find the Heart of Atlantis in an Egyptian tomb. You are not the only people searching for this, as you are in competition with the Nazis who are also looking for it. Your adventures take you from the Egyptian scenery, to an Arctic scenery, and eventually to a Mayan scenery in South America.

The character you play is James Quartermain. The game is loosely based on books written in the mid-late 1800s with a character named Alan Quatermain. However, the storyline, while very Indiana Jones, Tomb Raider, or even Uncharted, is just your typical archaeologist gone adventurer theme that we all know so well, so it doesn't really stand out.

The graphics for the game are actually not bad at all for the time that the game came out, in late 2013. The levels look good and the sceneries are drastically different to give each level its own authentic look rather than a continuous similarity throughout. The level design, is not as good. The game is mostly linear. Anytime you see multiple pathways, it is typically due to a treasure that you can locate, but it is basically similar to a corridor shooter where you have nowhere to go but straight. This makes a bit of sense as you are in tombs, caves, mines, etc... but as a player knowing the only direction to go is straight rather than exploring and feeling more freedom within the game is completely lost.

The music and sound are mediocre. It exists, it serves a purpose, but you will not be wowed by them. The puzzles are fairly simple. The majority are told through journal entries that pop up when you reach a puzzle. The journal entry provides some pretty direct clues as to what you should do, then you need to look around the level for the parts of the puzzle you need and it's as simple as that. Some are more difficult than others, but the majority are more time consuming to progress through than they are difficult to solve.

Each level offers some treasures and these treasures can be used to upgrade your skills such as your stamina/health, your flashlight skill, and more. As you fight the nazis, and zombie like creatures, you will sometimes need to run away, this will be short at first as you lose your breath, and your flashlight that helps you kill those zombie like creatures, needs to be recharged in order to do a light burst and get rid of the immunity to death.

The action of the game is where it really fails for me. It's just not that exciting at all. You have a few different guns you can use, but recoil makes it so you have to be a bit close at first. Each weapon does have its differences, but the AI is pretty stupid, and the action is repetitive with no other purpose than to just throw things at you between puzzles or at the random. The battles seemed dull, unexciting, and almost uneventful, almost like a bother to even deal with. When half the game is you exploring a linear level and the other half is action sequences, it doesn't bode well for how this game will leave you feeling.

The multiplayer is dead, and you can see why with my last paragraph. If the action is not thrilling, there are many better offerings out there to scratch your multiplayer action needs. The majority of the single player achievements are achievable, but you will never get past 70% completion due to so many multiplayer achievements listed for you to unlock. I'm not a fan of multiplayer games, so I'm not saddened that it is inactive or that I don't get to play it, but having so many achievements locked on a game that probably never saw its multiplayer ever reach maximum capacity, even upon release, is a bit hopeful from the dev side that people would want to play it.

Overall, I did play it all the way through and beat it, it's wasn't horrible by any means, but in the end there are so many better archaeologist adventure games out there that this one gets left in the dust as a mediocre offering.

I was pleasantly surprised by this game. I would describe it as an Indiana Jones inspired FPS adventure game.

It has beautiful graphics; the levels are colourful and detailed. The dialogues (very cheesy) fit the game very well. The puzzles are not overly difficult and seem mostly logical.

Deadfall Adventures is a rather short game and the story feels rushed at times.

I was a little bit annoyed by the insurmountable obstacles and the amount of invisible walls.

If they removed the motion-sickness inducing head-bobb, i'd probably have enjoyed this game. I looked for a setting to disable it but couldn't find one. Really a shame because I like the inherent premise and the puzzles seemed entertaining enough.

Was just trolling true the deals for something to pass the time and picked this up for a fiver. Think 'Return to Castle Wolfenstein' crossed with 'Tomb Raider' and you'll have a pretty good idea what to expect.

It easy to pick up, puzzles and combat aren't too much of a challenge, and despite the cut scenes it progresses at a easy pace. The graphics are a bit dated, but still look pretty good. Characterisation and voice acting is passable.

All in all, I find it to be a fun if not too demanding adventure romp.

B Movie Jank: The Game.

There isn't anything original about this game, it's an FPS shooter that takes Indiana Jones style of adventure and Tomb Raider puzzles, straps on some Alan Wake flashlight action and tops it with cheesy dialogue lines. Despite that the game is somewhat endearing in it's execution.
It's not exactly a game I can recommend to everyone and it takes a certain mindset for it to be enjoyable. That mindset being - I don't really care if the plot makes sense and whether it has top of the line gameplay, I just want some larger than life action with endearing albeit cheesy and cliche characters, shoot both Nazis and Commies in the same game and experience raiding ancient ruins with some simple puzzle solving. A switch off your brain and enjoy the jank kind of game.

Gameplay:
AI is a little rough, invisible walls, puzzles can be vague even on easy, combat is OK for a 2013 game.

Story:
It was interesting enough.

Bugs:
Along with other reviewers I experience a couple game breaking bugs. I had to reload a quicksave twice to get this wall to move correctly. I didn't know it was bugged and had to watch a video online and cruise forums to figure out why it wasn't working. The 2nd game breaking bug I had was during a puzzle to shoot items to lower floor spikes. My primary weapon was out of ammo and my secondary weapon which I picked up ran out of ammo. The game didn't automatically switch back to the default unlimited ammo pistols. The game crashed once. I also had a couple walls not be destroyed after completing a puzzle, however, I was able to grab the treasure through the wall.

Overall: If you're desperate for an adventure shooter game it's probably worth 5 dollars when it's on sale to some. If you get stuck look up a guide or reload the last save because it could be a game breaking bug.

Game breaking bug in the first level doesn't help with keeping the players having fun with the game. I managed to get through without the problems only on the third try. But after that the game ran smoothly till the end. It's not a ground breaking title - but a decent one. There's not too many games that recreate the Indiana Jones' style of adventures - and Deadfall Adventures got that pretty well. You would probably want better looking cutscenes and less cheesy humor, but that doesn't take anything from the the game itself. Don't expect it to be Tomb Raider or Uncharted, and your've got yourself a pretty cool game to spent time with.

It's a fun third person shooter with some annoying optional platform moments. The story is old school Alan Quartermaine/Indiana Jones style adventures through different cultures. Only without the Indiana Jones tendency to make foreign cultures look weird.
The story is lackluster but not unentertaining, and the combat still plays well.

It's NOT Citizen Kane or Gone with the Wind as far as the acting and dialogue, it's like a somewhat 'cheezy' B Movie that if you grew up in the 50's you'll recognize. BUT, BUT, BUT, ....THIS IS ONE DAMNED FUN GAME TO PLAY and if you love the '30's with the Ford Tri Motor planes, the Tramp Steamers, the Sands of Egypt, the Frozen mysterious Artic and the Steam and sweltering heat of the Central America Jungles, THIS GAME IS FOR YOU AND IT'S a LOT OF FUN TO PLAY.

It takes me back to my youth when I read Doc Savage, John Carter of Mars and the Fortress of Solitude books and comic books. GREAT FUN and I paid $6 for this and am enjoying the heck out or it.

This is not a triple A rated game, but it is fun. Kind of an Indiana Jones experience. Kill Nazis, find ancient treasures, etc. Story is good. Physics is OK. Not up to Far Cry standards of cohesion or Fallout standards of complexity and sophistication, but a good game if you have some time to kill. Which we all seem to have these days.

Deadfall Adventures reminded me very much about Strange Brigade, as it also has the same type of atmosphere and puzzle solving. I pretty much enjoyed the singleplayer, but unfortunately not the rest of the game and one of the reasons why, I'm not going to recommend this game. Even though I admired the game and its graphics as its gameplay in the singleplayer, I also got disappointed, because the developer abandoned the game shortly after release. The survival mode on ranked servers is bugged, the guns won't hit anything shortly after starting the first wave, the multiplayer ranked servers are mostly down, and some of the modes like last man standing are unavailable. So if you are an achievement hunter, you will most likely get disappointed, because the mentioned issues will make some multiplayer achievements impossible. Many players including myself have tried to reach out to the devs, but unfortunately they don't care to respond towards all the posts on the forum. I personally took the time and wrote an email to The Farm 51, namely to their head office, where they after some time responded. They wrote, that they took such issues with their games very serious and that they will look into the matter, and now months after nothing has happened. I personally won't purchase any games from this developer again, as I lost trust in them. And honestly I don’t understand why they still have the game for sale on steam, when it’s broken.

Warning: Deadfall Adventures is like a bad B rated movie.

It looked nice and I wanted it to keep up with my expectations --- but it failed HARD.

Treasures are hard to see (and yes, I am 34 and do not have perfect sight). The cutscenes are not skippable. You cannot save game. There are checkpoints. So, if you miss something? or click on something too soon? You must go through ALL the cutscenes all over again. (bad B rated remember?)

Multiplayer is appearing to be dead too, so good luck with those steam achievements.
The Tomb Raider series is a better idea if you have not played those games. Deadfall Adventures really irritated me. I’m delighted the experience is over!

Deadfall Adventures is an awful FPS/puzzle game made by ex-Painkiller developers, The Farm 51. I honestly found it hard to believe that this game was made by the same people who made NecroVision and Painkiller. While this game wants to be both an FPS and a puzzle game, it fails to competently blend these two things together. It has a myriad of other problems beyond its poor gameplay flow, such as pitiful combat, terrible AI, boring and drawn-out puzzles, and thoughtless level design.

The core shooting is serviceable but falls off incredibly quickly. It's your standard regenerating health shooter with WW2 weapons and profoundly stupid AI. You have a pretty significant amount of health for a game like this and most enemies can't hit the broad side of the barn. Enemies will either stand out in the open while slowly waddling towards you or just charge you down. I only died a couple times in combat throughout the whole game, and it was usually due to random instant-deaths and/or the profoundly awful hitboxes this game has. The hitboxes of some projectiles and enemy attacks are gargantuan, so things that very clearly miss you will hit you anyways. This is most noticeable with spear traps, which can seemingly hit you if you're within a dozen feet of them.

The most interesting thing about this game's combat is the Alan Wake gimmick of shining your flashlight on enemies to make them vulnerable. It's not a bad idea, and it has some nice visual effects to go with it. However, this gets old quick. You'll sometimes be locked into arenas with a horde of mummies coming at you. You'll need to shine your flashlight on every single one of them before you can kill them and progress. It just starts to feel like a chore after a while. The game generally doesn't offer you means other than your flashlight (like how Alan Wake gave you flashbangs and flares), so you'll rarely get creative.

The puzzles are generally very awful. You're given a notebook that sometimes outright tells you what to do. Other times, it's completely wrong or too vague to be remotely useful. I only needed to look up a walkthrough once, but it was for a puzzle that miserably failed to establish what I was supposed to do. It wasn't the first time, but I was able to brute-force my way through it the rest of the time. The game doesn't balance out combat with puzzles well at all, as it often feels like there's more in the way of puzzles than combat. Half Life 2 did this a thousand times better, even if you consider the fact that HL2's puzzles are deliberately very straight-forward. On top of all of that, some puzzles can take multiple minutes just for one attempt. They seemingly made pulling levers or turning cranks as slow as humanly possible in order to pad out the game.

The only real thing this game has to offer is some environmental variety. Even in this regard, this game can fall quite a bit short. Much of this game takes place in temples that are nearly indistinguishable from each other. You'll see some different foliage or setpieces, but that's really all this game does to vary these interior locations up. A lot of the level design feels like bland, empty corridors, and some maps are just unreasonably large for no good reason. The level design certainly hasn't improved much since NecroVision, but at least NecroVision had an intelligently designed gameplay loop. This game offers nothing of the sort and instead chooses to just randomly huck a bunch of mummies or hitscanners into overly large arenas. Sometimes, they'll place a convenient trap for you to lure enemies into, but that's about it.

My advice? Stay far away. A lot of other people seem to find this game to be rather mediocre, but I think it has almost no appeal whatsoever. How did this come from the same people who made NecroVision? How did such a unique and interesting game lead into such a generic and dull one? This is one of those games that almost put me to sleep while I was playing it. It's outright boring and it feels like it keeps going on and on, despite the fact that it has a pretty average runtime for an FPS. Not recommended!

Deafall Adventures:
Not that good, not that bad

Personally, I didn't hate this game. I can see why some would, but I tried to enjoy myself and mostly did. I'd describe Deadfall Adventures as a mediocre FPS version of Tomb Raider and Uncharted. The shooting is decent, not much recoil or range but feels alright. The puzzles are pretty bad and aren't usually clever, after a while I started looking up the hard puzzles. The settings and environments are interesting. The treasures and upgrades didn't feel too necessary, but it was fun enough. I imagine multiplayer is dead and not worth playing anyway. You'd pretty much be playing for the campaign, which was about 8 hours for me.
Overall, I'd recommend Deadfall Adventures. On sale it's like a cheap first person Uncharted, which is a stretch lol. It's not perfect, but it's just fun enough

Deadfall Adventures is remarkable - you get to explore magnificent abandoned temples and at the same time shoot fascists, commies and undead mummies. It's like this game mixes Call Of Duty with Indiana Jones and Tomb Raider and it does it so well. One thing's for certain - it sure is one-of-a-kind. For the most part it's an FPS, but you'll encounter many puzzles and traps along the way, of which the latter you not only have to bypass but can also use in combat to e.g. impale your enemies or burn them to a crisp.

It's not a perfect game, as it sometimes contains bugs, gets cringy a couple of times, is often illogical and inconsistent. Way too often do our heroes persevere to enter a forgotten derelict temple only to find commies inside already waiting for them. Like, how the hell did they even get inside there? Also, the lady you're travelling with may be a bit obnoxious with her repetitive and totally unhelpful directions. But what compensates for all this is the amazing locations with their temples and tombs. They are eye-watering, especially once you set foot in Guatemala. I don't think I've ever seen game worlds more beautiful, and exploring those ancient grounds in first-person view only adds to the excitement. Mixing all those aspects together was a pretty bold move by the devs, but one which delivered an astonishing adventure shooter, the likes of which there sadly aren't many.

The solo campaign is Great to play but when it comes multiplayer modes almost nonexistent and sometimes bugs out where you cant even fire/switch out a gun.
The only thing that bothers me the most is that half the achievements needs to be locked behind multiplayer matches and i cant find anyone playing this game ever.
I just wish the multiplayer achievements were removed.

Not a bad game. I enjoyed it. I did get a bit frustrated with a few of the puzzles but overall they were not too hard. For the year that it came out in, the graphics are pretty good as well as the game play. There were a few invisible walls and one time I couldn't fire my weapon though some of the plant life at an enemy but that didn't happen too often. Note that if your colour blind in greens & browns then you may find some parts of the game harder to complete as specific things may go unnoticed and take you longer to find.

A fun little Alan Quartermain (technically great grandson) / Indiana Jones style FPS adventure with some fun dialogue and pretty good story. Sure it's not next gen graphics (by 2020 standards) and the puzzles are not super hard, but it still looks really good and easier puzzles means less swearing at my monitor and more enjoying myself. Plus I get to kill Nazies which never gets old really. The world has a serious lack of Indiana Jones and Tomb Raider style games. Personally I'd like to see a sequel, but doubt it will happen given poor reviews on release and probably didn't make 100x it's budget which is what AAA developers look for now a days. How long to beat says
you are looking at about 8 hours on avg and about 14 if you explore and collect everything and unlock everything. I collected and unlocked everything and took me 13.8 hours so guess they were right.

High Adventure.

Do you like the old pulp magazines? B adventure films? Golden age comics? Or do you like Indiana Jones and Brendan Fraser Mummy movies? Congratulations! This games for you!

Deadfall adventures is not a perfect game. There are a few minor bugs, the puzzles are easy to solve, and the voice acting is a tad bit meh. BUT I found the voice acting part of the B movie charm personally. It's not terrible though.

There's just something about adventures set in the 1930's, there's just more of a charm than the dull modern settings of Tomb Raider and Uncharted. The weapon election is unique as it has some period accurate firearms at your disposal, Tommy Guns, Lugers, bolt action rifles, and you get to use them to shoot Nazis, Mummies, and Tomb Robbers!

So if you are in a pulpy mood or you like historical firearms outside of the usual selection of WW2 games. Give this a try.

What Is Deadfall Adventures ?

Gonna start by saying that the game looks pretty nice visuals-wise and the overall gameplay feel starts decent, with a nice intro sequence introducing its main character and his story it had potential, but after a few hours of gameplay it just start dragging, the game ends up just being another average, formulaic, boring and uninspired FPS, one of the thousands we get every year, I know its not a triple A production but Ive seen this type of stuff done better even by the creators of this game, the gunplay feels very unimpactful and kinda lame at times, theres barely any blood when you shoot an enemy, fighting human enemies is OK but those mystical ones especially the mummies are very bad and make combat encounters, something that the game should nail on, the main delivery of action and fun in the game, makes it just feel boring and lame, the puzzle aspect of the game is interesting tho and exploring the place for treasures used to upgrade your character is a nice idea, but the puzzles are so easy and linear, the solution either consists of collecting pieces of stuff around the map, rotating stuff like mirrors or pressing buttons, they never pose any challenge, theyre just there to break the pace of the game, the story itself loses momentum in the first hours, its just another indiana jones, serviceable at best and I noticed a severe drop in quality in the cutscenes as the game progressed, especially in the animation department, its just a game not worth playing, its not bad but theres really no reason to play it, with so many FPS games inflating the market, people should just go to the best ones and skip anything that isnt good, like deadfall itself, ah I completely forgot, theres a multiplayer and a survival coop mode but with no one playing it theres no way to get into matches and they suck anyway.

My General Rating : 6 / 10

This game , well , it's so predictable. I found most of the puzzles boring.
It's continuous story is about getting ancient stuff to save the world. How original isn't it ?
It's neither so short nor so long.

Pros :
+Environment.
+Graphics. Not best however has good visuals.
+Some of the unfunny jokes.

Cons :
-Gameplay, especially gunfight is bad.
-Repetitive game mechanics. I'm tired of focusing my flashlight then one shotting mummies.
-Some puzzles are pretty boring , and don't make sense.
-Pretty much predictable story. They fainted us twice. Lmao

I am really enjoying Deadfall Adventures. First-person viewpoint games give me a headache, and this one does, too, but it's not a twitch-shooting FPS, so it's not that bad.

For all the complaints you may read about Deadfall Adventures, I am really enjoying it. Ultimately, this is just a fun game that puts you in the shoes of an Indiana Jones or Lara Croft-like character, though more of an adventurer and less a knowledgeable archaeologist (like Indiana) and less of a bad-ass (like Lara) ... and now that I think about it, more like a Bard (from The Bard's Tale) in that he's a confident, sarcastic guy who just goes with the flow.

Lots of exploration and different environments -- check the Guides section for the guide for Collectibles, and you'll see all the places you'll go just from the YouTube video headings.

Puzzles are pretty easy (so far), so the focus is on fun and exploration and environment.

Fighting is likewise pretty easy, at least on the Normal setting. You don't have to be spot on with your aim. This is good for me because I suck at aiming.

Deadfall is a buggy mess that looks about 4-5 years older than it actually is. The narrative is weak, and Quatermain doesn't have even half the charisma of Lara Croft or Nathan Drake and friends.

You know what, though? I really, really like the idea of a first person Uncharted, and this game tries SO hard to be something more than its limitations; it's honestly kind of admirable—if not charming—and makes me appreciate the little things Deadfall does manage to get right.

Paint a layer of polish over all the weak points, and this would be a cute little action adventure gem.

7.2/10 - Indiana Croft and the Drake Brigade

When I picked Deadfall Adventures up at 75% discount, I was slightly worried by the claims that it was a very glitchy Tomb Raider knock-off. I am glad to say, this is not at all the case. I have not encountered a single glitch that did not sort itself out without my needing to reload the last save. There were several times where I thought I was encountering a glitch, but each time it turned out to be an intentional feature of a puzzle or map, that was just not intuitive to me.

Deadfall Adventures is the pulp FPS lovechild of the Tomb Raider and Uncharted franchises, but it somehow ends up being more likeable than either of them. Since it is at its core a FPS, the gun play is a lot more enjoyable, and you don't end up getting your camera stuck at strange angles on the terrain. The more recent game Strange Brigade was inspired by Deadfall Adventures, but lacks a lot of its B-list charm.

You play as protagonist James Lee Quatermain, the great-grandson of Allan Quatermain from Sir Henry Rider Haggard's books, but as far as Harrison Ford characters are concerned, you are less of an Indiana Jones and more of a Han Solo. Together with Jennifer Goodwin, the smart-aleck and condescending American version of Hermione Granger, you will be tramping across the globe, through Egyptian tombs, Antarctican excavations, Russian mines, Mayan ruins and -- wait for it -- Xibalba, all the while fighting Nazis, Soviets and undead with equal relish.

While the overarching story is quite nice, the dialog between characters is hilariously 'budget', and the voice-actors clearly had a lot of fun shouting abuse at each other in the recording booth.
The lack of ammunition for the (in my opinion) more interesting guns, means you have to swap load-outs frequently and really get to experience everything the armory has to offer.
Damage is quite forgiving, and checkpoints are frequent, though you must remember to pick up all the treasure collected since the last checkpoint again after dying, or you'll miss out.
There are a very small number of traps that you can't see coming, but which will instantly kill you, but these are very scarce and don't feel like much of a nuisance.

My biggest complaints about the game, are the fact that they replaced all swastikas in the game by thin black X-s, presumably for the German market, and that ersatz Hermione Granger is a real pain in the [archaeological expedition], being way too uppity for the time period. (Yes, I have tried to shoot her on countless occasions; no, it is not possible; yes, it still felt good; no, I don't have any regrets.)

Is Deadfall Adventures an era defining work of art? Hell no!
Is it worth picking up on sale? Absolutely!
I would love to see a sequel made in the same spirit.
