Story:

Die Maps haben tolle Atmosphäre und tollen Sound. Das Spiel ist sehr herausfordernd, die Schwierigkeit der Gegner bei einigen Maps ist sehr hoch. Dann muss man schon mal die Map 20 Mal oder öfter von vorne beginnen. Aber es macht Sinn, denn könnte man einfach so schnell alle Maps abschliessen, wäre das Spiel recht schnell vorbei. So muss man sich Stück für Stück jede Map erarbeiten und die Stellen herausfinden, an denen es kritisch wird zu überleben. Ich habe das Spiel auch mal eine Weile beiseite getan, weil der Frust zu gross wurde. Aber der Reiz es zu beenden ist dann doch grösser und gerade am Schluss kommen einige sehr schöne Maps! Die Steuerung war teilweise etwas hakelig, was aber daran gelegen haben könnte, dass ich unter Linux mit Hilfe von Proton gespielt habe. Ich bin damit aber klargekommen und würde das Spiel noch einmal spielen.

Ein Action Rollenspiel welches schon ein wenig die Jahre gekommen ist.

???? Story

Die Fantasy-Welt und die Story sind recht interessant, auch wenn man nur sporadisch zwischen den Missionen davon etwas mitbekommt. Oft scheint die Handlung auch nur als Alibi zu dienen, um dem Spieler wenigstens irgendeinen Grund zu geben, dass zu tun, was die Mission von einem verlangt.

???? Gameplay

Die Kämpfe machen überwiegend Spaß und gehen gut von der Hand. Die Möglichkeit jede Karte mit den verschiedenen freischaltbaren Charakteren zu Spielen, egal ob Krieger, Magier oder Schütze, bietet reichlich Abwechslung. Zumal auch der Spielstil dadurch individualisiert werden kann. 14 Missionen gilt es zu absolvieren wenn man für die Guten kämpft, 13 sind es bei den Bösen + ein paar Zusatzmissionen.

Damit ist das Spiel zum einen recht umfangreich, zum anderen hat es einen gewissen Wiederspielwert, da in jeder Mission eine gewisse Goldmenge liegt und ein Teil davon gut versteckt ist. Mit dem Gold kann man sich dann vor jeder Mission neu ausrüsten, weshalb es auch von Vorteil ist die Gegend zu erkunden und nach Gold zu suchen und nicht stupide von A nach B durch die Mission zu hasten.

Mit kleinen Rätseln, Fallen und Sprungabschnitten wird ein wenig Abwechslung zwischen die Kämpfe gepackt, wobei die Sprungabschnitte meiner Meinung nach eher nervig sind, da man gerne mal an kaum sichtbaren Kanten hängen bleibt und einige Abstände wirklich Haargenau abgemessen wurden.

???? Grafik

Wer bei solchen Spielen viel Wert auf eine gute Grafik legt sollte von diesem Spiel die Finger lassen, denn das Spiel ist schon über 15 Jahre alt und sieht dementsprechend aus. Viele Dinge sind noch recht kantig, was zu der Zeit ja standard war und auch einige Gegner (z.B. Werwölfe) sehen sehr merkwürdig aus bzw. ohne Namen wäre gar nicht erkennbar was es sein soll. Für die damalige Zeit ok, nach heutigem Standard aber kaum noch zumutbar. Es sei denn man verbindet damit Nostalgie oder kann diesem ganz speziellem Charme etwas abgewinnen.

???? Sound

Musik und Sound sind ganz ok, nur die Synchronisation hätte im deutschen etwas besser sein können. Vor allem dass die eindeutig weiblichen Schatten-Assasinen (ja die Brüste sind kantig aber dennoch als solche erkennbar) eine männliche Stimme haben ist etwas merkwürdig. Ebenso störend ist, dass der Untertitel oft nicht mit dem gesprochenen Text übereinstimmt weil er zu früh oder spät eingeblendet wird.

❤︎ Fazit

Alles in allem ein akzeptables Spiel, was einen eine ganze Weile beschäftigen kann. Der Preis ist durchaus noch vertretbar, ansonsten kann man aber auch auf die regelmäßigen Sales warten und es für unter 1 Euro holen, dann macht man definitiv nichts mehr verkehrt. Man sollte aber etwas für solche alten Schinken übrig haben!

Enclave (2003)

Nothing better then running around and stabbing guys with your swords. This is a third person game where you hack and slash your way through enemies. You can shoot them as well and you got some magic weapons for the stronger enemy encounters. During missions you can choose a different character and your gear load out but that costs gold. You earn gold from just playing the game and exploring. There are some puzzles as well along the way. Story was good. Only thing I did not like personally is that there is some backtracking, like you tend to run back to areas you already explored to access new areas after you fetched a key or something. All in all, its a pretty fun game.

Honestly didn't expect this game to be as good as it is. I never played this as a child, so there is no nostalgic value for me, but I do appreciate a lot of older games, so I gave this one a try and I wasn't dissappointed.

You play a selection of different levels with different characters, all with a different skillset.
Each level is wonderfully crafted and absolutely rewards you for exploring and thinking outside the box. Not once was there a corner I couldn't check and find something cool.
The game also uses a lot of interessting triggers and mechanics, especially for its age.

I had a lot of fun with this game, the only thing holding this back is that the steam version is slightly buggy, but this is an easy fix with community patches.

The little ''Open-Worlds'' are well made and you feeling that the delevoper made it with heart and vision. It feels like a ''Retro-Fantasy-Game'' but definitly in a good way. Only the animations and characters looking damn ugly.

Really atmospheric fantasy music. Gives you the Lord of Ring Vibez. One of the best parts of the game.

Typical fantasy story. Orcs invading the lands of magic in this case Celenheim. It was good enough to hook me but this game shines with his atmosphere. Big Plus: You're playing the Good and the Evil Side.

GAMEPLAY - ★ ★ ★ ☆ ☆
Yes the hitbox is trash. But every level or ''Mini-Openworld'' feels really open and well made while being linear at the same time. It really gives you that adventure and mystery feeling. But at Level 13 this game got so fucking hard that I quit it. I will definitly play it again at some time but at easy.

WORTH BUYING - ★ ★ ★ ☆ ☆
When you're a fan of Old-School RPG's and don't borther and kind of dumb Beat-Em-Up Gameplay than you should definitly check this game out. But be aware - this game is hard kind of Dark Souly sometimes. But I will recommend It and come back at some time. I already watched a YT Video for making me an opinion on the story.

This game has no right to be as good a it is.

Plays perfect on my Windows 10 laptop, the graphics still hold up well today.

Gameplay is fast and smooth, tons of heroes and villains to play as, all unique and fun. The levels are a masterclass in game design.

If you missed this game back in the early 2002's its one of the few action games from that era that really hold up well.

Think Hexen + Quake + a little Dark Souls and you get the idea.

Enclave is the Halo 1 of hack-and-slash games. It's a very straightforward, singleplayer, level-based game that doesn't really focus too much on creating an unheard-of story, unique lore, or any half-baked gimmick in an attempt to set it apart. What it does have is solid game mechanics, good level design, and a foundation for player freedom encouraging various different playstyles. To date, Enclave, in my opinion, has the best, most fun, and easy-to-use combat mechanics over any melee-oriented game, surpassing those of Skyrim and even Dark Souls, (even if it is admittedly basic, but hey, I'm kinda lazy). Overall, Enclave just focuses on being a fun game first, before it focuses on being anything else.

ENCLAVE

A unique third person isometric RPG from 2003 that still holds up today graphically and game play wise, honestly some of the graphics felt like elderscrolls morrowind and I like that the loot you collect goes to an overall pot which each level you can get better gear for the next Fight.

The music and sounds are awesome, very classic of the time. The only major problem I have is the hit detection, sometimes I will be swing at a guy right in front of me and never hit.

I switched to the ranged druid and all problems went away.

Got it for a steal so don't pay full price.
Works fine on W10 with graphics on ultra.

i love this old game. I bought a copy in June, of it in the same year it was released. Yes, i do agree with other people who say the aim for attacking is bad. This aiming system was loosely based on the one from Tomb Raider, which also was bad. If, you can over look the aiming goofiness, this is a good game.

This is an older game but still a good one in my opinion, still one of my favorites to come back to sometimes honestly, not really any replay value unless you just generally enjoy it and the hack and slash nature or story though, as once you are nearing end game or just gotten enough of the collectible gold, the game becomes far to easy really. I do recommend picking it up and showing this game some love though~

This game is the definitive mediocre fantasy action game. It's not even that bad, and considering it's only $5 I can't honestly say it's entirely a waste of money, but there are better games that cost the same amount on steam.
The only positives I can really say about Enclave are a) it's short so it doesn't draw itself out too long, b) some of the music is honestly really good, and c) they at least tried to set up a new fantasy setting, but whether or not they actually succeeded in making an interesting one is another matter entirely
I have to say the negatives outweigh the positives. For starters, the combat is just bad. I went through the game as the knight so maybe other classes were more interesting but for the knight you just do the exact same thing over and over again. Block, wait for attack, slash a couple times, rinse and repeat. That very repetitive approach is all you do for almost the entire game, the only exception being when it's necessary to use the crossbow. Next, the plot is piss poor. It has no stakes, flows terribly, and honestly seems unfinished, as if there are missing pages from the script. Finally, the last boss battle is just poorly constructed. It goes from being tedious to anticlimactic.
I wish I had more positive things to say about this game, but even after a second playthrough just to see if I felt differently after giving it some time it still disappoints. If you're a fantasy nut like me I'd say it's at least a novel experience your first time through, and if you just happen to have five dollars and four-five hours to spare there are worse ways to spend them, but there are definitely better ways as well.

Worked fine for me on Win 7.

+ scripted events show that this is not an indie, but a full price title.
+ battles are horrible (especially collision detection), but they are charming!
+ it's old, but still better than 90% of all indie games I've played.
+ Ton of replayability, the two campaigns take on the first run-through already at least 10 hours. Then you can play same missions with different characters or on higher difficulties.

Well, it doesn't look good on the Steam pictures but it DOES look good if you play it... I was a PS2 fanboy back then, but this showed me, that XBOX must have been a HOUSE!

After having played through both the Light and Dark campaigns 100%, I can comfortably say that this game is absolute dogshit. It's bad, but in a good way. The game reeeeally did not age well, and it shows immensely. The combat is clunky, the movement is aggressively painful, and everything feels like it's built to withstand nuclear fallout while simultaneously dishing out damage similarly. Despite all this, the game is actually somewhat enjoyable and the story was engaging.

I can't believe this game was released in 2003, It's really ahead of it's time. The melee combat experience is pretty basic and so straight forward but the ranged is something else, It require lots of skills to hit a single arrow into a moving target. I enjoyed playing it so far.

exemplifies the weird unpolished movement + gameplay mechanics of the Xbox years. It plays like the worst best game ever, or the best worst game. Check it out.

I just discovered this game and it sold me in the (light side) intro. A lot of old games don't hold up, especially if you didn't play them in their time, but that intro made me feel like THIS is its time. Like whenever I came upon it is the perfect time to play it.

That intro has LOTR vibes, warm and cozy and storytell-y, the world it presents isn't too original but the narrator is passionate about it, and it immediately invested/immersed me in the faction I picked. The one joke in it was classy and impressive on several levels.

I intended just to dip my toe and see how to categorize the game in my library, but now I want to keep playing to show the other faction what for, and see how the world develops. I'm just as hyped now as if I had discovered it at launch, it would have been a worthy contender for my attention against Gothic, Max Payne, Jedi Academy, and other solid stuff. Instead I'm playing it now over games like Shadow of War, Witcher 3, and Senua's Sacrifice.

P.S. The dark campaign was locked for me and apparently it's not supposed to be, found the workaround is to add the line CAMPAIGN_DARKCAMPAIGNUNLOCKED=1 to the options.cfg file in the game's directory.

The combat in the game is simple but understandable, and the graphics and presentation make for a nice unique medieval style action game.

My main complaint is that at many points in the game the difficulty level doesn't feel right, and you're put through some punishing sequences that can often feel unfair, leaving you replaying sometimes entire levels.

Making a review of this game without having in consideration it’s year of release would be unfair. For 2002, this game is awesome, it gives you two campaigns with the option to play as many different characters. The story is well developed, the music is appropriate, graphics is good, but the game is a little buggy. Other than that, Enclave it’s an awesome rpg game that will give you a good 10-ish hours if you’re exploring everything.

Enclave is an action adventure game developed by Starbreeze.

Gameplay / Story

In the world ruled by magic, the peoples of light and darkness were separated from one another by an infinitely deep rift that split the earth as a result of war thousands of years ago. The land of Celenheim is rich and thriving. It forms an enclave of sincerity and order, surrounded by the disfigured and barren wastelands of darkness, the war-torn plains of the so-called Outlands. Over the centuries, however, the deep rift began to close again, and skirmishes between the powers of light and darkness along the border areas soon became commonplace. Now it is only a matter of time before these disputes turn into a merciless war.

Celenheim is fighting for survival. A group of men and women are sent on a dangerous journey in hopes of saving the enclave from destruction. Their adventure takes them through hostile territory in search of the people of Meckelon, their ancient ancestors, from whom they were separated long ago. Perhaps they will find in them the help they so desperately need.

But Mordessa, the dark and mysterious leader of the Outlands, plans to bring the old demon Vatar, who was then responsible for the division of the world, back from the depths of the underworld in order to claim the magical lands of Celenheim. To do this, she sends her servants to acquire an artifact of forbidden knowledge that has hitherto been hidden from humanity: the Book of Souls. With the contents of the book, she would hold the key to the underworld and powers beyond the ability of mortals.

This is an action fantasy game that emphasizes dueling. The story revolves around the war of good and evil. A land called Celenheim is attacked by hordes of enemies, and your task is to help the queen defeat these enemies. The plot itself will not surprise you with anything. But the game offers the opportunity to enjoy this conflict from the perspective of both warring parties.
The game is divided into individual missions, where after completing one, the other will be automatically available to you. You start with a warrior, but then you get the opportunity to play for other characters, such as archers or druids.
The missions take place in relatively small locations and their content is usually simple. Usually you have to walk from one end to the other, and along the way find something or kill someone. You can also look for gold coins that are usually hidden in dark corners or in hard-to-reach places. Sometimes you will also come across a healing potion that will come in handy, because health regeneration is not at stake here.
This brings us to the main content of the game, which consists of duels. They are fun, but not particularly elaborate. The left mouse button is used to attack, the right to defend using a shield, that's all. You won't see any special combat skills, you just mow and hope to hit. But if you prefer long-distance combat, the game will suit you. Most characters can also use a firearm, either a bow or a crossbow. An exception is magic characters who use bullets fired by magic wands.
So if you are in the mood for a dueling action game, then you have my recommendation. But don't expect anything else, otherwise you will be disappointed.

It is a step down from Severance in the class of PC ARPGs from the early 2000's, but quite enjoyable - short, straightfoward and with a nice money-based progression system that adds replayability. Unfortunately I couldn't stop it from crashing every 20 minutes or so in my Win 10 x64 machine - I set the core affinities to one core only, put the graphical options on barebones, used compatibility mode, none of it worked, so beware. Managed to get up to level 4 on Hard, where mission start getting bigger - you will definitely need more than those 20 minutes from then on. A shame.

It looked pretty good at first for roughly five bucks, and at first I figured it was worth it. It started off okay. Reminds me a lot of Heretic II. It's not really an RPG, more of a hack and slash with a dark fantasy setting. Half a dozen levels or so in, the game has a MASSIVE difficulty spike. It's possible to die literally seconds after starting the level from falling debris. Since it's your first time playing, there is no way whatsoever to know it's coming. Thirty seconds later there is another beginner's trap consisting of an Indiana Jones style boulder gimmick. There are checkpoints through the level, but being a port of an original Xbox game, these checkpoints are only viable until you turn the game off. You still have to play through a level in one sitting, as was normal with consoles back in the day. There is no quicksaving. Players cannot roll, dash or dodge in any fashion. There is only blocking and attacking. Attacking is god awful. Bolts and arrows often pass straight through enemies without inflicting damage or veer off to the right inexplicably. A swing of the sword can also inexplicably miss its mark. It's almost as if some of the enemies are too short or a bug related to sloped surfaces or high framerates. I'm really not sure.

On a more positive note, the graphics are pretty good for a 2002 Xbox game and the environments look nice. The music is passable and overall the dark fantasy atmosphere is pretty solid. Level design is okay (except the bullshit traps) and reminds me of classic games like Quake or Doom, with locked doors that require keys.

He ordered his regular breakfast. Two eggs sunnyside up, hash browns, and two strips of bacon. He continued to look at the menu wondering if this would be the day he added something new. This was also part of the routine. A few seconds of hesitation to see if something else would be added to the order before demuring and saying that would be all. It was the same exact meal that he had ordered every day for the past two years.

Enclave is a third person hack and slash game from 2002 (ported to PC in 2003). Back then there was, of course, no Dark Souls, the closest games would be Rune (2000) and Severance: Blade of Darkness (2001). And older folks might even remember titles such as Die by the Sword (1998) and Dark Vengeance (1998).

The game features 2 different campaigns (good guys and bad guys), each with its own levels and characters. There's a total of 12 characters, 6 per campaign, but they're all essentially variations of only 3 archetypes: warrior, archer, mage. The game has no real RPG elements, you don't level up and don't have an inventory etc. You just choose your loadout with available gold before a mission and that's it.

Now, I'll just say it, the combat in this game was never good, even at release. The game wouldn't be so unknown otherwise. The dev team was more experienced with making shooters and was actually working on their own multiplayer arena shooter more akin to Quake III Arena, but then for one reason or another decided to scrap all that work and make Enclave for Xbox (and PC) instead, on the very same engine. There's still a lot of leftover code under the hood and all the enemies are technically multiplayer bots with fantasy skins and melee weapons.

Naturally, out of all the play styles Enclave has to offer (melee, ranged and magic), the bow combat is the most developed and fun to play, as it basically plays like a third person shooter. Melee is very very basic, you just get 2 buttons, attack and block, there's no lock on or any evasion mechanic, you just spam your 3 hit combo and pull back when the enemy does theirs. The hitboxes are awful and melee characters will have a very hard time going through the game on harder difficulties. Magic is again pretty basic, you get a bunch of staves, each with its own 2-3 spells, and you just stand back and spam those. But archers get a huge selection of arrows, ranging from poison, fire and explosive, all the way to sniper arrows which have a zooming scope (yes) and let you target specific body parts for locational damage. And the game makes a distinction between all the different materials you can visually identify on an enemy, e.g. bare skin, cloth, metal armor etc. But wait, it doesn't end here, you can nock multiple arrows and loose them all at once like from a shotgun blast. It's a very fun mechanic and I've never seen it in another game.

Now, the reason I'm spending all this effort to review a seemingly mediocre game from 2002 is that I actually liked it a lot! Yes, the combat is meh if you don't play as an archer, but those level designers were damn good. Enclave features some of the best level design before Dark Souls became a thing. Castles under siege, wizard mansions, lush forests with log cabins, massive structures in a volcanic land, the game has it all and it's very thick with atmosphere. There's a lot of talent put into this game, the texture work is still impressive to this very day. And the layouts are not just hallways or silly video game labyrinths, but more like actual living spaces with hidden nooks and crannies everywhere. Even the soundscape is commendable, I actually unpacked the game's files and there's like 5 sounds of an arrow hitting something, per each material. The soundtrack was composed by Gustaf Grefberg and it's easily some of the most original and haunting music in video games, mixing orchestral and folk music.

There was a lot of love put into this game, and it's really a shame that the gameplay turned out so half-baked. It definitely needed more time in the oven. But Enclave is still very much worth experiencing, in my opinion. Even without the nostalgia goggles.

P.S. You might need to use dgVoodoo 2 for better compatibility on modern systems.

Enclave is a very good game. I got in on sale for really cheap, and for the money i got it for i'd say it's totally worth it. Even if you're looking to buy the game without a sale, i'd say go for it. Totally worth my time. :)

The game crashes randomly, you can fix this by setting the affinity of your cpu but then when you alt+tab into the game its way too dark. Also you need to set the mouse polling rate to 125 otherwise your character walks like a disabled man.

Hitbox detection is a mess, its a shame you need to do so much to just run the game properly. Not recommended.

Very good slasher. Two completely independent, but very similar fractions. Dark and light. Each has a dozen classes that become available as you progress through the campaign. Pretty nice combat system, excellent study of levels, many secrets.

Where do I start? This game is amazing! I had so much fun playing with the Light and Dark side, and I loved the unique systems in the game! Very worth playing!
