Wir schreiben das Jahr 1989. Sie sind ein Mann namens Henry, der sich aus seinem chaotischen Leben zurückgezogen hat, um als Brandwächter in der Wildnis Wyomings tätig zu sein. Hoch oben auf einem Berg stationiert, ist es Ihre Aufgabe, nach Rauch Ausschau zu halten und für die Sicherheit der Wildnis zu sorgen. Ein besonders heißer und trockener Sommer führt allerorts zu Besorgnis. Ihr Supervisor, eine Frau namens Delilah, steht Ihnen über ein kleines Handfunkgerät jederzeit zur Verfügung—Ihr einziger Kontakt zu der Welt, die Sie hinter sich gelassen haben. Vorwort:
Ich bin mit einer falschen Erwartung herangegangen, ich dachte ich gehe durch den Wald und löse über Funk hier und da ein paar Rätsel und wurde sehr Positiv überrascht.

Positiv:
+ Grafik Mischung aus Stanley Parabel und Teamfotress 2
+ Charaktere sehr glaubwürdig und nahe gestaltet
+ Gespräch kann man selber gestalten
+ Sommer hafte Welt
+ Nachgeschmack ist da

Negativ:
- Recht kurze Spieldauer ca. 5 Stunden
- Fehlt etwas dass es ein must have wird
- Zu teuer für die Spielzeit, nur im Sale empfehlenswert
- Zu wenig Rätsel die sehr sehr leicht sind
- Wenig Orientierungspunkte

Vorschläge:
• Zweiter Teil wird Zeit
• Mehr Entscheidungsfreiheit und dadurch die Veränderung des Spiels

Fazit:
Es ist zwar ein kurzes aber ein sehr lebhaftes und nahes Erlebnis von den Protagonisten und durch die Story und Welt. Aber leider sehr kurz und nur im Sale wirklich empfehlenswert.

Good game if you just want to sit back and relax, but be careful or u will get bitten by a raccoon while trying to find a turtle to adopt.

Die Atmosphäre und die wählbaren Dialoge sind mehr sehr positiv in Erinnerung geblieben. Generell schafft dieses Spiel eine große Spannung aufzubauen, dass du nicht mehr abschalten kannst und unbedingt das Ende wissen möchtest. Insgesamt ein sehr gelungenes Spiel, muss man gespielt haben!

Irgendetwas stimmt hier nicht. Habe ich ein anderes Firewatch gespielt? War ich nicht in der richtigen Gemütsverfassung? In welcher Paralleldimension wird dieses Spiel so einhellig gefeiert?

Zugegeben, das Narrativ von Firewatch wird behutsam und liebevoll eingeleitet und weckt zunächst das ganze Spektrum froher Erwartung: Bewusst habe ich nach sehr kurzem Anspielen auf den passenden Zeitpunkt gewartet, um mit diesem Game zu beginnen und vollends in das Erlebnis einzutauchen. Unbestritten entfaltet sich die Geschichte in der ersten halben Stunde außergewöhnlich emotional und lebensnah, wofür sich die hervorragende Arbeit der beiden Sprecher verantwortlich zeichnet, deren Figuren ausschließlich über die Kommunikation per Funkgerät eine Beziehung errichten. Sogar die erste Aufgabe, in der man badende Mädels am See zur Ordnung ruft, verspricht ein stimmungsvolles Handlungsgeschehen.

Ein Walking Simulator sollte dem Genre zuliebe freies Erkunden ermöglichen. Bei Firewatch aber handelt es sich nur zum Scheine um ein Open-World-Erlebnis: Die Welt lässt sich nur über schmale Korridore erlaufen; tatsächlich sind über siebzig Prozent der Map unbegehbar. Die strikten Bewegungen von A nach B oder von B nach C werden nicht nur mithilfe natürlicher Schranken wie Buschwerk oder Felswände sichergestellt, sondern auch durch unsichtbare Barrieren vor offenem Land. Dass dem Spieler auch erzählerisch die Selbstbestimmung genommen wird, ist der konsolig eingeschachtelten Szenerie nur angemessen: In Firewatch trifft man fast keine eigenen Entscheidungen, und jene, die man fällen darf, haben keinerlei Auswirkungen. Weder durch die ausgewählten Antwortsätze, die wir mit dem Funkgerät durchgeben, wird Einfluss genommen noch durch die eingeschlagenen Routen, welche sich auch optisch nicht voneinander unterscheiden. Für ein Event auf Schienen zocke ich lieber Revolution X (1994).

Nun sollte man annehmen, dass zumindest der vorgegebene Handlungsfaden all dies auszugleichen vermag. Mit seltenen Ausnahmen[spoiler](wobei die düstere Ahnung eines Mithörers der Funkgespräche sowie der traurige Fund in der Höhle als emotionale Treffer positiv herausgestellt seien)[/spoiler]besteht die Geschichte jedoch aus monotonem Herumgelatsche zu blassen Plot Points an reizlosen Orten. Mein Interesse zumindest hat die triviale Mystery-Story mit fortschreitendem Spielverlauf nicht aufrecht erhalten können; die meisten Geschehnisse, die Unbehagen hervorrufen wollten, ließen mich ungerührt zurück. Nur das glaubwürdige Verhältnis zwischen den beiden Hauptfiguren rettet in Ansätzen die zu träge dahintröpfelnde und letztlich undankbare Mär. Sonstige Bemühungen, im kleinen Rahmen Identifikation und heimeligen Bezug zu stiften, nerven mit ihrer Durchschaubarkeit, wie etwa das allmorgentliche Berühren des Treppenvorbaus durch den Protagonisten.

Die Begeisterung über die Grafik in sämtlichen anderen Reviews kann ich gleichfalls nicht nachvollziehen - die Darbietung ist bestenfalls annehmbar. Meiner bescheidenen Meinung nach fügt sich der detaillose Comic-Art-Stil nicht dem Gegenstand der Erzählung und bringt jede Immersion zum Ersticken. Ich kann nicht so recht verorten, warum dem so ist, da diese Art der Präsentation etwa in The Long Dark (2014) durchaus funktioniert. Vermutlich ist der Kritikpunkt nur eine Extension der vorausgegangenen Feststellungen: In der Welt von Firewatch gibt es nichts Besonderes zu entdecken. Die Umgebung mit ihren dominierenden Rot- und Gelbtönen wurde so leblos und austauschbar gestaltet, dass das Ablaufen der vorgegebenen Landschaftsschläuche nur als ermüdend und frustrierend bezeichnet werden kann.

In der unbegründeten Hoffnung auf ein wenigstens überzeugendes Ende der Geschichte habe ich mich durch dieses Spiel gequält, nachdem die Rückgabefrist abgelaufen war. Somit lässt sich immerhin die kurze Spieldauer noch als positiver Aspekt verbuchen.

Firewatch ist ein Spiel, mit einer Story, die wie Geplänkel anfängt und über kurze Zeit immer schneller Spannung aufbaut. Die Dialoge zwischen dem Hauptcharakter Henry und seiner Kollegin Delilah sind schlagfertig, witzig und manchmal gefühlvoll. Als Spieler hat man die Wahl wie man antworten oder ob man überhaupt antworten will und somit Einfluss darauf wie sich die Beziehung der beiden entwickelt und die Unterhaltung verläuft. In ca. 6h erlebt man einen Sommer den Henry niemals vergessen wird und der sein Leben wohl nochmals verändert. Für mich eine 10/10.

Wunderschöne Atmosphäre. Man durchlebt einen kleinen Teil des Lebens des Hauptcharakters während man durch die schöne Welt von Firewatch geht. Die Story ist wunderbar nachvollziehbar, der Kontrast zwischen Freude und Leid wurde außerordentlich gut dar gestellt. Auf jeden Fall ein Spiel von dem man sich überraschen lassen kann!
Auch der Soundtrack ist zu jeder Sequenz gut gewählt worden, kann man sich aber auch so gut anhören!
Ich hatte sehr viel Spaß beim spielen dieses Spiels und hab direkt Fernweh bekommen :D!

Short (~3-4h) immersive single player game, that has nice atmosphere, an interesting story and looks good.

Für einen Abend mal in ein entspanntes Abenteuer entschwinden. Mit Firewatch wird das gewährleistet. Als Walking-Simulator angestempelt, hat es doch mehr zu bieten, sofern man sich darauf einlassen kann und möchte. Eine echte Herausforderung für Gamer dürft ihr hier natürlich nicht erwarten. 100% Errungenschaften sind auch noch relativ problemlos erspielbar.
[spoiler] Das Ende wird von vielen kritisiert. Dann kann ich schon verstehen. Mich hat das ganze an die Serie Lost erinnert. Es wird viel mit den Erwartungen des Spielers herum manipuliert. Ich denke das soll auch so sein. Aber im Endeffekt ist es dann doch ziemlich schlüssig. Man kann im nach hinein ja noch mal ein bisschen zu dem Thema im Internet recherchieren. Da wird man leicht fündig, ähnlich wie bei Lost :-) [/spoiler]

Auf jeden Fall sein Geld wert, für jeden der ein Fan von story-telling games sowie Erkunden einer schönen Landschaft ist. Das Spiel spielt sehr stark mit dem Gefühl der Paranoia, welches sich ab einem bestimmten Punkt bis zum Ende hin durchzieht. Es war ein interessantes spiel in das man regelrecht eintauchen Konnte, die 5-6 Stunden die ich bei einem langsamen ersten Playthrough investierte haben sich ausgezahlt, diese Gefühlsebenen des Protagonisten auf eigene Art durchleben zu können war eine seltene und doch sehr aufschlussreiche Erfahrung die ich gerne wieder erleben würde.

Eine Klare Empfehlung meiner seits.

Aufgrund der dichten Athmosphäre und der gut gelungenen, langsam aufbauenden Spannung, gerade noch so empfehlenswert.
Aber man muss sich darüber bewußt sein, dass es sich hier im eine Geschichte handelt, die man locker in einem 10 Minütigen Kurzfilm hätte erzählen könnte.
Um die Zeit zu strecken verbringt man seeeeehr viel Zeit damit von A nach B zu wandern (wenn man sich nicht verläuft) und dabei imemr wieder hin und zurück zu laufen.
Negativ anzumerken ist die umständliche und unintuitive Bedienung des Spiels. Ich kann nur jedem empfehlen einen Kontroller zu benutzen. Die Standartbelegung der Tasten an der Tastatur (die sich übrigens nicht umbelegen lässt), ist total wirkürlich gewählt und entgegen den Standartbelegungen aus anderen Titeln. Alleine schon das Schauen in die Karte ist denkbar umständlich und schlecht gelöst. Man muss sie langsam hervorziehen, dann heranzoomen, und dann noch mit dem Stick die Stelle suchen, an der man gerade ist.

Perfekt zum abschalten und sich treiben lassen. Story ist gut erzählt, Spielwelt lädt zum ausführlichen erkunden und entdecken ein, und Wiederspielwert gibt es auch durch verschiedene Optionen im Verlauf des Spiels die man in Gesprächen wählen kann.

Wer Natur mag, 4-5 Stunden Zeit hat und einfach ein schönes, emotionales Spiel genießen möchte, macht hier nichts verkehrt.

Das Spiel hat wirklich eine Empfehlung verdient. Ich empfehle aber auch, sich das ganze Erlebnis nicht auf viele Sessionen aufzuteilen, sondern in 1-2 Sessionen zu spielen, da ich denke, dass die Story sonst stark darunter leidet.

Aufgrund der Spiellänge würde ich auch empfehlen auf einen Sale zu warten.

I really enjoyed this game, it was relaxing and serene with a little bit of suspense. The story was intriguing, but I would be inclined to play again and make some different selections as I feel like there may be more to this game.
The ending was nice, but lack lustre.

Thoroughly enjoyed the graphics and was a great game after a busy day of a mentally stimulating job.

Beautiful game that for whatever reason really stuck with me. If you enjoy walking sims, this one features a unique aesthetic/premise, gorgeous views, and some of the most authentic dialogue I've ever heard in a game.

Firewatch is an interactive story where you play Henry, a man who’s trying to escape his current
life by becoming a Fire Watcher out in the Rocky Mountains. During the course of the game you
make friends with Delilah, a fellow Firewatcher who keeps you company throughout the game.
The gameplay mostly consists of exploring the forest and talking with Delilah as the story
unfolds and you unlock tools to help you explore more of the forest.

The scenery is beautiful, there are several sprawling landscapes and areas to explore in the
forest. The interactions between Henry and Delilah are very charming and I really enjoyed their
chemistry together. The story has a strong beginning and I quickly became invested in the
characters and the story. However, the second half of the game really fell apart for me. I feel like
they tried doing too much at once as more story threads began appearing and I felt like the
writers were trying to do too much with the story. The major climax of the story was lackluster as
it feels like all the plot threads get quickly wrapped up in a short time and leave an unsatisfying
conclusion. However, I really did like how the story concluded with Delilah and Henry, as it
wasn't something I was expecting, but felt like the best way to end their story.

Overall I liked this game, the world was beautiful, I liked the characters and even though the
climax of the story wasn’t my favorite, I liked several parts of the story. If you’re a fan of
interactive stories I’d give this one a try.

Solid visual novel/walking sim. I wish it had more content, park is a small location and not a lot hidden stuff there. But overall its a good game, i enjoyed story very much. Also voice acting is great, in a game where all action comes from dialogues actor from Mad Men and Delilah actress really nailed their parts. Game looks really beautiful, despite lack of technological stuff graphics is amazing because of great art direction and working with colours. Forest changes its beauty during night and day and its just fun to explore it. Ending is pretty sad and melancholy and leaving you to think about it for some time. Not many games have same effect on me.

It's a very visceral experience. Highly relaxing to play. My only issue is the ending- Huge disappointment. I feel it was rushed in its later stages of development, and that ending was the result. A twist was expected but never came to fruition. Could be loads better if the ending was changed.

I'd give it a 8/10.

Amazing game, I don't even know how to describe it. By far the best game I have ever played. I loved the story line, the art work, the game play everything about it was amazing. Such an amazing story and I hope that more games like this are published. I 100% recommend this game to everyone, make sure to take your time playing it and have fun.

I wanna just start by saying, I'm from Wyoming and I saw gameplay for this before I purchased it. It looked fun, but I had no idea.
The visuals in this game make me want to move back, almost but not quite.
Character arcs/development is so in depth, the plot of the game is somewhat chaotically focused, if that makes sense.
The controls are a learning curve, took me awhile to get use to.
The focus of Hank and D are so relatable, I almost cried and honestly now that it's finished, I feel like I've lost one of my closest friends. Playing made me wanna take D put myself and get to know her even further, and yet I feel like I can't, for multiple reasons.
This game was a multitude of rollercoasters. Harboring the secrets of beauty, the human condition, the human curse, that primal sense of companionship, and a starving hunger of curiosity that, now after its egress, makes me hunger for more.
TL;DR: Beatiiful game, relatable characters, solid plot, quick playtime, a unique and inspiring experience. 100% reccomend, and I guarantee I will play this at least once a year. Beautiful and amazing work from Campo Santo and Panic, just stunning and incredible.
You don't hear it enough but to the before named teams, THANK YOU ALL. I've never missed someone so much that I've never know and never will ever.

Defined as a walking simulator, that's only explaining 50% of the game.

The story which can be intriguing at times is very good, the mood and the atmosphere are top notch which makes the immersion high.
This is a great game and it provides you with a deep and thoughtful experience that makes you feel like you just played something that you'll remember for a long while.

Playing with the audio commentary (but ONLY if you finished at least once the game) reveals almost a second different game and it's such a well done addition that you start remembering the creative staff's name and you can actually feel that this game was made with passion and care. It brings a lot of background info and creative design decision process. It also highlight the most important fact:

VERY small subtle actions can change some lines in the game!!!

In the end, this is a highly recommended game for the story and its atmosphere, it makes you want to hike for real but also provides you a gut wrenching life story (or two, or three!!)

Firewatch is a beautiful game with a pretty good story.
But the gameplay was way too slow for me.
I don´t like to wait until the game is telling to push the space button to jump.
And I felt restricted because you can´t go the way you like.
You have to follow the path and you can´t even walk over a little stone.
But it´s still worth playing. I had fun and can recommend it^^

Firewatch ist ein schönes Spiel mit einer ziemlich guten Geschichte.
Aber das Gameplay war mir viel zu langsam.
Ich mag es nicht zu warten bis mir das Spiel sagt, dass ich Space zum Springen drücken soll.
Und ich fühlte mich eingeschränkt, weil man nicht den Weg gehen kann, den man gehen möchte.
Man muss dem Pfad folgen und kann nicht mal über kleine Steine laufen.
Aber es ist es trotzdem wert gespielt zu werden. Ich hatte Spaß und kann es empfehlen^^

Firewatch is a game about a... a guy who watches out for fire. I really enjoyed the game - the best part about it was the game's atmosphere. Taking in the world was really nice. The graphics are GORGEOUS.

A major complaint I will have about the game is that it is quite linear and doesn't account for players missing out on certain steps. I.e the game tells me to head off to a certain place, but when I arrived, the story didn't progress as I hadn't passed a certain trigger.

However, this is still a must play. Once I picked it up, I couldn't drop it for the rest of the day. I'm sure you will have a similar experience too.

This was not what I was expecting. I bought this game on a whim shortly after it came out. Mostly because everyone was talking about it and that's just how I treated my Steam account back then. If it was popular, I'd buy it. Didn't have bills and had a decent paying job, so money was rarely a problem. I then proceeded to let it sit, untouched, for 5 years. About a month ago I decided to start working through my enormous Steam backlog. This game was high up in alphabetical order so I just pressed play. I had no idea what kind of game I was getting into or anything like that. It opens with a bunch of text, which just coming off Ace Attorney I was fine with. You make choices about your life before the game, and then you finally reach your lookout tower.

So at this point I'm already depressed as fuck. My wife is on the other side of the largest ocean on Earth with dementia and here I am watching for fire's in the middle of nowhere. But then stuff start's happening. You go stop some people launching fireworks and come back to a trashed tower. The mystery starts. I get more and more sucked in trying to figure out what's going on. And before I know it... the game is over. Everything is solved, but you never even see the person you've been talking to the entire game. It's a bit of a letdown honestly. For a game that kept me hooked for its entire adventure (I beat it in one sitting) and then ends so abruptly, it felt like it was missing more.

Story aside, the graphics are very nice. It's a small open world game. Not very graphics intensive but still comes off as vibrant. Not a lot of music, mostly ambient stuff. The characters, while not very developed (except for you), are nice and the voice acting is good. Controls are extremely simple to figure out, and the game points you were to go at all times. But it still feels like a world you can get lost in.

I personally wouldn't pay $20 for it nowadays. I'd wait for a sale. $10 or less imo. But this is a must play if you like story. It's short, I 100%'d it in about 6 hours, but it's nice. Give it a try.

Firewatch is simply a great game. Good story, music and even visuals. It's an instant classic in my books. Make sure to play this game while in a call with your friends, makes the experience 12x better... worth every cent :)

Firewatch is excellent. An amazing, albeit short adventure. Even though it's merely a walking simulator, it has a very compelling story with well developed characters that had me hooked throughout the entire game. The dialogue is a very important element in the game and it was very well made in terms of creativity with excellent voice acting. The world is beautiful, drawn in a minimalistic style with a lovely atmosphere. It was very immersive - it really felt as if I was actually wandering through the wilderness of Wyoming. Truly a memorable experience.

Firewatch combines a compelling story, a beautiful world to explore, and fantastically written characters.
It's a relatively short game that's almost entirely about the story and dialogues between two people talking over radios. So if you're expecting a lot of mechanics or gameplay, don't get your hopes up. The conversations are relatable and never get boring. There isn't much to say about this game, it's a magnificent and intriguing experience that you should live out on your own. The ending was a bit of a letdown in my opinion, but that doesn't make it any less of a great game as a whole.

Beautiful atmospheric game. From the first minute you are immersed in a mysterious story, where later you are left with yourself and with the pleasant voice of a stranger. You explore the area and enjoy the sounds, incredible scenery and the game completely engulfs you! It's interesting, attractive and charming. You will get an enjoyment! Love this game!

The game was nice, although it really is more of a guided story than an actual game. As a player, you can only click on or interact with items that the story specifically points out, and you cannot change the course or ending of the story. It was enjoyable and I'm glad I experienced it.

Firewatch is a lovingly-crafted narrative that follows a fire-lookout as he tries to escape his life. It's graphics, despite being 5 years old, age incredibly well, mainly due to the game's low-detail, charming art style. Sound design is also pretty amazing, fully immersing you into the world. It takes a certain kind of patience to really enjoy the game, so if you like taking your time with slow p[aced narratives, you're gonna love Firewatch.

In terms of replayability, you're not going to find a massive amount here. There's a developer commentary mode, but that's about it. I have a feeling it's the sort of game you play through in a weekend and uninstall, only to find it in your library years later and fall in love with it all over again. I 100% recommend you get it on sale.

In this game you play as a man named Henry. He is having some trouble in his life, and starts working in the wildlands of Wyoming protecting the people and the forrest from wildfires. In the wilderness of Wyoming you have a map, a compass and a stranger on the other side of a radio. I won`t mention anything else since mystery and not knowing everything is a huge part of this game.

The gameplay is really in depth and gives the player just enough freedom to feel like the forrest is an open world ready to be explored (which it truly is). I also love the fact that you have to use a map and compass to be able to navigate through the forest. This is by no means hard, but still a gameplay element that really emphasises the fact that you are totaly alone in the forrest, and can only rely on your own skills and intuition.

Before i write about the story i have to mention the voiceacting. It might very well be the best voiceacting i have experienced in a game ever. Easy 10/10!

The story is what makes this game amazing. It keeps the player on the edge the entire time, and explores how imagination and isolation can impact both you as a player, but also Henry. My first reaction to the ending was that it could use a bit more time, and give us as players a bit more. After reflecting and researching the game more i must admit that the ending grew on me. It might still be a bit short, but that doesn`t really impact the game in a negative way.

This might be the best game to pick up during the steam summer sale (or any other sale). The game is pretty short, ranging from 3-4 hours, this is no problem since the game only costs around 4$ during sales. This game was a journey that i started, and ended the same night, and it quickly got a spot in my top 10 games of all time list.

Pick this game up during a sale, you won`t regret it.

This game is without a doubt a solid 10/10 experience.

Deep story of a forest ranger in Wyoming with 5 hours of gameplay. I bought this game with very little research, I didn't know it was such a story-based game and I liked it in that way. It is definitely not a forest ranger simulator, it has nothing to do with it. Overall, I like the game and I am satisfied.

What I like: The story is very good, the history of character is processed deeply. It made me feel like a gamified novel with interactive decisions. The visuals are nice enough. It is enjoyable to walk around, I did not get bored for a long time. The best thing in the game might be the sounds and voice acting. In addition, I really like the English in the game, it is also a good game to improve English, there are many kinds of dialogue. My favorite dialogues are the ones with Delilah.

What I didn't like: The game mechanics can be difficult sometimes. Although the map looks big, but the places to go are very limited. I got tired of going places towards the end of the game. We walk most of the game, it's not a good feeling to walk in the same place again.

PS:Navigating in the map and using a compass, were a great experience. Also, an option to turn off showing where you are on the map can be added as a more realistic difficulty level.

This game is fantastic!!! It's beautiful and plays well. I absolutely LOVE a story-driven game where your choices matter -- and in Firewatch you can tailor your character's background and conversational choices throughout the game. I also enjoy a bit of mystery, so this game is pretty awesome. I highly recommend it. After beating it the first time (about 7 hours) I immediately started a new game with different choices just to see how it would play out. :)

I have never seen a more beautifully crafted game in my life. This game created such an intense feeling of paranoia at every turn, I couldn't tell who was my friend and who was out to get me. Jumping out of my seat at every noise, I found my only solace in my ever-reliable turt reynolds. If you have not played this game yet, do it ASAP. I cried four times during my playthrough, thrice from fear and once from pure emotion. 11/10 reccomend please play it if you havent already.

this is a game i particularly resonated due to the pandemic. nothing says loneliness than talking to people virtually. this story was bittersweet - sure i wish the ending was more satisfying but this story is not a story about conspiracy, it's about people coming together to help each other.

As a person who lives in Colorado (Where this takes place) this game captures the magic of Colorado's mountainous scenery ohh so well...

This game has so much style and honestly is a piece of artwork. You can screenshot the game at any point and it just looks fabulous..

Buy this game when it's on sale, I don't think it's really worth 20 dollars because it's a fairly small game. Still though this game is such an experience and it really makes me want to go on a hike up to the great Rockies.

As a person who doesn't play much, I adored this game. From the very beginning I got absorbed in the game thanks to its story, the visuals and the music.
I felt like I was actually living this story, which left me feeling a little melancholic in the end, just like after a long and beautiful book.
The game reflected upon topics that I felt I could relate to: loved ones fading away, the research of oneself, the contact with nature, and the relationships with other, in particular the one with Delilah, that I felt close and distant at the same time.
The visuals and the music added so much to the story itself and I fell in love with the ambient I found myself in, and would honestly play it all over again and again just to be thrown into that world for a little longer.
I appreciated that many things were sort of 'left' in mistery because it allowed me to just dive into the story as an individual with my own thoughts and experiences.
I don't think I fully understood Delilha's character, because throughout the gameplay I felt like I was doubting her, couldn't count on her as I thought I would have. Till the very end she remains a evanescent figure, almost a dream? Something I (Henry) probably needed to fill the gap left by my 'lost' wife. It felt like I was creating her persona, and for a while I believed that the game was going to end showing how I had gotten not only physically but also mentally distant, lost, creating worlds and peeople I needed to find myself again. Almost a parallel to my wife's disease.

Losing oneself and leaving everything to get in contact with nature has been a recurrent theme in our society and I like to think that the name of Henry may have been inspired by Thoreau, the author of Walden.

I liked how everything was left unsaid not only to Delilah but to ourselves also, as if something needed to be cancelled in order to progress in the story.
This was an experience os solitude, frightening at times, marvellous at others. Avoiding one's problems by being alone is something that not only Henry, but also Ned, Brian's father, does.
Solitude may be a terrifying, beautiful, revealing way to atone for our mistakes.

The music helped me get even more absorbed in the game, accompanying me during the game, helping me dive deeper into certain situations.

10/10 to a stunning game that I played at the perfect moment of my life.

One of the most beautiful games I have ever played. It art is amazing and the amount of content is refreshing. A solid game for its price and it has a great story that gives you life lessons that are applied to real life. The ending is also a must-see. 8/10 would recommend.

Woah, that was.... HEAVY.... I wasn't expecting the game to hit me as hard as it did, but at one point I just had to put my headphones down and go hug my wife and tell her how much I love her.

What a powerful game that really plays with your head, giving you clues and then immediately casting doubt on them.. A great little mystery wrapped up in beautiful visuals, presented as a walking simulator through an
American National Park.

I think everyone's played or heard of Firewatch now, so there's no point leaving a long review, and I think it'd be counterproductive to say too much, but at one point I felt a deep pit in my stomach and now I just want to go and hug my son, even though it will probably wake him up.

What a phenomenal game, totally not what I was expecting....

This is one of the best game i've ever played, the only bad thing about this game is that it's short...
Voice acting is 10/10 and Atmosphere in this game is outstanding... If you think about playing or buying, do it, it's really amazing. :)

Go in blind, no Internet browsing, no looking at any achievements just download and play. Also try to tick off the option to have the map without your marker in the settings before you start, it's not super difficult and it'll make the game more immersive. Also apparently they're trying to make a movie about this so that's neat!

As a huge Valve and Half-Life: Alyx fan, I deemed it necessary to check this game out after hearing the involvement of Campo Santo in that title. And I must say, this game surprised me in unexpected ways:

- The writing and voice acting is super high quality, and I grew to like both main characters very quickly [spoiler] despite all of their development being delivered through dialogue and text only; there are no traditional cutscenes where you see the characters moving, so this is a seriously impressive feat. [/spoiler]

- While the world has a slightly cartoony aesthetic, it feels very realistic and successfully creates an uplifting or tense atmosphere where appropriate, [spoiler] even though there is no combat whatsoever. [/spoiler]

- The narrative is really clever and successfully subverts the player’s expectations without feeling cheap; [spoiler] you feel like something bigger is going on as you would normally expect in video games, but the game decides to simply not go down that route. I think this is such a simple yet effective choice that makes it stand out by, well, not being bombastic in presentation like many other games would do. [/spoiler]

- Like many people, the ending really confused me initially, but after sitting with it, it completely made sense given the direction of the narrative. [spoiler] I think the fact that many people seemed disappointed with it showed that the developers pulled off their vision successfully; we all expected something more substantial to happen, but the game’s final message reminds you of the harsh reality of the world, and that running from one’s problems can only last so long before it’s time to snap back to reality. [/spoiler]I understand why people wouldn’t like it, but at the end of the day, Firewatch is not particularly long so I don’t think it could really be said that it wasted anyone’s time, unless they completely despise walking simulators.

The game took me around three hours to beat, though if I was better with following the map and searching the environment in a couple of cases, this probably could have clocked in at about two and a half hours. This would be longer if you decide to not jog your way through the world, but I decided to do so throughout since the narrative consistently gripped me and I wanted to uncover the mystery surrounding it in good time.

The game also offers free-roam after you beat the story, and there are a couple of extra achievements to track down if you want to squeeze the game for all its content, but aside from that there isn’t really much to do. It’s worth it at 75% off for sure, but due to its length I couldn’t really recommend it for anything above that since there isn’t much to do aside from the narrative. However, what is here is incredibly quality, and I’ll likely have this in mind when drawing up a list of my favourite games I played this year. 9/10.

I came in with no expectations and was pleasantly surprised! Great Story, Pacing is great. Simple and fun. Voice acting is outstanding!

Since quite a lot has been already said about Firewatch beforehand, I'll try to focus here on key aspects I wanted to know before playing.

First and most importantly - don't expect too much from it. Expect a usual good atmospheric walking simulator. A lot of people tend to praise this game as one of the best experiences and stories. I strongly disagree with that, mostly due to the poor and unsatisfying ending.

Nevertheless, the writing in the game is beautiful. It definitely compliments the overall atmosphere of summer spent in nature. Visuals, music and sound design all are great and well-done.

There are some minor technical issues, but nothing game-breaking from my experience. You can find several levitating trees occasionally (if you delve too deep into the forest) and sometimes continuity issues emerge (for example, you've cleaned some garbage one day, you return next day and it's there again, at the very same place), but these are all minor and understandable for indie game with a small budget.

To sum up, Firewatch is the good experience with pretty visuals and stunning atmosphere, but it's not excellent unfortunately. Unless you want to get disappointed, please, do not come with expectations of Game Of The Year/Best Story/You Will Cry In The End type of the game like I did. Having that in mind I definitely recommend playing Firewatch. It has some moments where it truly shines.

Short, you could probably finish this in one sitting, but it's enjoyable. The graphics are nice and pleasing to the eye, its a good style, and the story is pretty nice too.

I'd recommend it.

Very unique and amazing experience! I strongly recommend this game for anyone looking for a unique story mode game, The games amazing style of graphics along with a strong and rich storyline makes it the perfect casual singleplayer game.

Despite the somewhat of a let down that is the final day i still think that it's an amazing game.

Overall i would give it a strong 9 out of 10.

Firewatch is a game that I first watched as a playthrough on Youtube upon release, fascinated by the beautiful scenery when I was younger much of the story got lost in my memory. Henry, Delilah, Jule, Brian, Ned, none of their stories really stuck with me, they didn't leave an impression on my mind back then.
Now, this is likely due to youthful ignorance, but I find it hard to feel sad about the fact as it enabled me to go into this game with barely any expectations past the visually satisfying and beautifully designed graphics.

Even if during the prologue one doesn't feel connected to Henry yet, with every choice of dialogue there is a growing awareness that the man you're playing as is neither a hero nor a villain in the story. He's Henry, a guy trying to escape from his life, from his marriage and the painful truth of what awaits him back home, someone who is a little cowardly yet painfully aware of his situation, someone who, even if you pick the choices you think will lead him to the best possible result, is broken and hurt despite his best (or worst) efforts. And someone who finds comfort in the presence of another broken person, someone who is willing to listen and someone who understands what it's like to run away from your past, your bad choices and feeling lost in life.
Spending this summer with Henry and Delilah, listening to their conversations, learning what kind of people they are and what brought them to Wyoming and investigating the strange happenings in the national park, everything just a coincidence in these two people's lives.
They are more human than I'd like to admit and their troubles seem so real that you really feel for them and at times find yourself enjoying the moments of peace and quiet while hiking through the park, briefly leaving the heavyness of it all behind you and just taking in the view, getting lost in the colors.

You're faced with some tough choices in this game, I found myself second guessing my own choices later on, questioning if there would've been a better way to do things, a better way to react to certain questions and situations, something I missed, something I overlooked. In the end, it doesn't really matter because when I made the choices they seemed right.

Thanks to my partner I was able to play this game, and I am incredibly grateful for this kind gift! ^^

tl;dr:

Amazing game, great characters, beautiful design, poignant story.
I recommend to play this in one-sitting on a lazy rainy day, and take your time with it.

Just because I'm not recommending this game doesn't mean I didn't think it was good. The graphics are beautiful and the voice acting is top tier. You really become invested in the story and characters---only for it to fall flat. It was incredibly disappointing. I appreciate the realism in that the simplest answer is usually the correct one, but it left you wanting more. I don't regret playing it, but it definitely isn't worth full price. If I were you, I'd only pick this one up on deep discount.

The two main components this game combines are - a mellow scenery & funny/interesting dialogues. It´s a very calm, but also exciting experience. Especially recommended for outdoor enthusiasts & explorer. The world itself is often restricted, which makes it hard to spend hours and hours of exploring actually. But the dialogues while having encounters with wildlife, other hikers, or incidents that take place are really on point and feel realistic. Navigating yourself around is fun - especially while finding new ways how you can advance. Short but very detailed and moving!

A short story focussing on two firewatchers in a beautifully crafted 3d environment.

The conversations between Henry and Delilah carry the whole game. Voice acting was really good. The story itself is realistic and down to earth.

Gameplay consists of you hiking and climbing through forest and rocky areas, going from one location to the other to investigate what's going on. You're never in a rush so feel free to wander about and enjoy the beautiful vistas or use the free roam mode once you've completed the story.

Enjoyed it a lot.
Now all I want is a pet turtle.

Walking simulators should strive to achieve what this game does. I never once felt bored wandering the game world. I enjoyed the dialog between the characters, but also appreciated that most of it was optional for players who want to ignore it. The steady progression of opening more areas of the map with different tools is a nice touch. The story builds intrigue and suspense, resulting in an unexpected benign ending, but one I'd say is not disappointing.

As you play, don't forget that you have a camera.

Firewatch is so much better than you'd expect a game that is basically a walking simulator would be.

It's pretty short, somewhat lineair, and there's only 1 ending, but man, it will grip your attention all the way to the end... The 4 to 6 hours it takes to finish the game were one of the best gaming experiences I had in the past years.

On sale, it's a steal. But in my opinion it's well worth the full asking price.

An experience that should not be missed. Highly recommended.

I enjoyed it. The story pulled me in and I wanted to learn what was going on. I liked how I could basically explore what I wanted as the game progressed. I was about to beat in about 3 hours but could have spent another hour or so exploring if I had wanted to. It's worth a look when it's on sale if you play games for the story.

I don't really know what to say. The story is very underwhelming yet it was good...

The story is really short but it was realistic. Which is what I liked about it. It felt like 2 people were actually having a real conversation to eachother while you were running around the beautifully lush forest exploring areas and the graphics.

Which were absolutely amazing.

I'd recommend during sale but never at the retail price.

I enjoyed this game, so I don't like giving it a thumbs down, but I can't really recommend it. Firewatch starts off strong, and managed to keep me interested in the story until the end. The relationship between the two main characters was very well done. They were likeable and I was interested in how things would turn out between them. The mystery was also intriguing, and did a good job of pushing me forward because I wanted to get to the bottom of everything. However, the games flounders everything it has built up in the last hour or so. There is no satisfying conclusion to the characters relationship, and there is no big payoff for the mystery. It feels like the writers gave up in the final act, and instead of writing an interesting conclusion, they just put the pen down. Firewatch was an interesting experience, but it left me feeling like I had accomplished nothing, and that nothing that I did actually mattered.

The conversation with him and his supervisor is awesome actually it feels like you are having conversation with her. you talk about your loneliness with her after i heard his story i felt like I was the one who is lonely. Amazing story and gameplay! I got emotionally attached to the characters. There is no real antagonist or danger in this game but at times I felt real fear. Particularly the fear of being watched. The game delivers and I would recommend it to others.

An intriguing little adventure that straddles the line between beauty and unease.

Similar to games like Dear Esther and Everybody Has Gone To The Rapture, it is a walking sim in that regard yes- but one that feels more like an interactive one than those too.

The story is really quite interesting and certainly has you guessing till the end. You can also probably finish it in one sitting, but is a glorious little experience that is worth the admission price.

Well worth a look if you love story rich games and a little indie development in your diet!

The story is decent, but only in the last 1.5 hours or so does it get interesting. Is it worth $20 for 3.5 hours of story? IMO, no. This might honestly be the shortest story in a paid game I've ever played. Which wouldn't matter so much if it was, say, $10.

This is a lovely game. It is a mystery, where you play a man on firewatch duty in a national park who strikes up a friendship with a woman at another firewatch station, but your only way to communicate is through your walkie-talkies. Strange things start happening. Actually, this game genuinely frightened me a couple of times (no scary monsters, but some scenes have a spooky, unsettling atmosphere).

The good:
- looks and sounds amazing, with beautiful graphics and soundtrack, good audio design and the voice acting was top notch
- interesting story that made me want to keep playing so that I could solve the mystery
- there is a free roam mode so that you can explore the world and see what you missed when playing the story

The not so good:
- the story is a bit short and linear; it concludes a bit too abruptly and could have used a bit more time and space to wrap up
- some stuttering, but turning off V-sync seemed to mostly fix that for me

If the devs turned this game in to some sort of long-term survival / firewatch simulator, I would buy it in a heartbeat!

Firewatch is one of, if not, the best walking simulator(s) I've ever played, and one of my 2020 games of the year. Beginning to end it's just a beautiful story, and its only elevated by its soothing soundtrack, gorgeous visuals, amazing soundscapes, and incredible audio tour.

I had seen the main trailer for Firewatch from way back in 2016, and despite being interested, never picked it up or read anything more. It wasn't until I went on a big Steam shopping spree this year that I decided I should finally pull the trigger and get it. Upon playing, I was surprised at the way the game played because it was so different than what I expected. But I was happy, as now I can't imagine it any other way.

Firewatch is the story of a man who, after an unfortunate series of events brought on by the worsening health of his wife, decides to take a job as a fire lookout in national forest to escape for a while. While working the job, he grows close to a fellow, more experienced, lookout through walkie-talkie conversations, and a series of strange events begin to unravel into a big mystery.

The meat of Firewatch isn't found in the gameplay, but in the story, just like in most walking sims. And while almost everybody I know enjoys the story as it plays out, I think many don't really love the ending. Firewatch doesn't make a strong effort to tie up all the loose ends, or give you a strong sense of what's happening post-game, but for me it works, really well.

Unlike most games which are fictional and have no desire to emulate real life experiences, Firewatch makes a strong effort to do that, right from the prologue. So when all the right choices aren't apparent, when things are messy, and when you're not left totally satisfied at the ending, to me, at least, it feels like the most appropriate ending this game could have. Life is messy. Life doesn't always have a happy end, and sometimes you're left with regrets. That really struck a chord with me and Firewatch kind of reinforces this unforunate life truth in a really compelling way.

And the story is told in two beautiful ways, both done incredibly well: world-building, and voice acting. Simply put, Firewatch has the best voice acting I've heard in a game, maybe ever. And the world-building is top notch. Every major location has so many wonderful details filled with world building that reinforces the character roles, their emotions, their thoughts, interests, etc.

And the game does a really good job of mirroring these things through gameplay elements, too, by conveying that sense of struggle and turmoil in the tasks you have to perform as you go along. The conversations grow erratic or sporadic depending on the mood. The setting begins to shift as natural disasters begin to complicate things, and you go from hooking up carabiners often to chopping brushes with a fireman's axe and breaking into locked fence gates.

These amazing details and designs coupled with a, perhaps simple, but beautiful setting, a subtle yet impactful soundtrack, and an absolute must play audio tour makes Firewatch just magic. There's not many games I can recommend more than Firewatch. It's the whole package and it's just so dang good. Please play it. It's a beautiful, interactive, cinematic experience.

Kind of reminds me of The Forest
but it's a single player game with a bit more realistic approach.

Great walking simulator. Amazing visuals coupled with some of the best dialog I've seen in a game makes you get absorbed from the get go. Then the story starts to show some hints of mystery that get you hooked through to the end. Add in some cool chill songs and it's a great way to spend one evening.

Wow - what a game! It's a real adventure and it was so fascinating that I had to play it through in one go. It starts a bit depressing with the story how he met his wife and how she got ill. Then this job in the woods with nobody else - just a woman on the walky talky who is in another fire tower ... or not. The talks are funyy, strange, later a bit creepy. You don't have an idea what is going on - is it a fire catastrophy? Is it shizophrenia? Is it a spy thing? Is there a murderer? Or just a calming wandering through the landscape of woods and canyons? It gets more and more tense and just until the end you still aren't really shure what was real. Really strange. Cool story, great graphics, a bit lonesome but that makes the relation to the female co worker even stronger.
You have to decide what you tell her (or if at all). Ask lots of questions and also walk quite some time to the beautufil landscape. Unexpected things happen. And in the end ... it was good and a little creepy entertainment. Well done!

So simple, yet so beautiful

My first encounter with Firewatch was while I was in bed with the flu, suffering from a massive headache. Because I am a person that never can do nothing, I was looking for something to watch. Firewatch seemed to be the perfect game. Not too bright, wonderful nice colours and no loud noises. What I got while watching a Let's Play, was an experience that hooked me all day long. And although I already knew the story then, I chose to play it for myself afterwards.

Characters
You play Henry, who, for the first time in his life is a lookout inside the National Park in Wyoming. Not really because his heart burns for Mother Nature, but because he suffered a personal tragedy. To flee from it, he took a job, in which he only has to sit on top of a tower, watch the vast forest beneath him and do nothing. At least that was his perception of the job. The reality is quite different.

With Henry, the (at some points) quite naive, trustful, but also impulsive man, you get a main character who is just as likeable as Ezio from Assassin’s Creed II. Not because you are playing him while major things are happening in his life, nor because you condone his decision to become a fire lookout, but because you feel his helplessness. You sympathise with him and you both grow during your stay in the Shoshone National Forest.
Next to Henry, the only “main” character is not even physically present. Delilah, his lookout boss/colleague, is only contacting him via walkie-talkie. These contacts, these witty jokes and these serious conversations make a larger portion of why you like Henry. Delilah acts as a moral compass, guiding Henry (and you; as the player can determine the answers Henry gives) through Henry’s feelings of guilt and slowly opening up to Delilah.

The chemistry between Delilah and Henry is instantly there, hooking you as a player, leaving you longing for the next transmission of Delilah! The link between Henry and Delilah is astonishing. These conversations are so much fun to listen, for instance when you find the underwear of two teens near Jonsey Lake and report that to her, she playfully tells Henry to pick up his tongue of the ground and get his job done. Wonderful! The whole game continues through with these beautiful conversations!

Environmental Story Telling
As because the only source of information is Deliah, the game relies heavily on environmental storytelling. You go to explore the wilderness and stumble upon stuff. A fence, a locked gate in a cave, stuff like that. Everything you see will come back at a later point. Two teenagers drink beer, you’ll find the beercans everywhere at the site of the *SPOILERS AHEAD* [spoiler]cut telephone wire[/spoiler]. Or your [spoiler]bedsheets[/spoiler] were stolen and you’ll find them in the [spoiler]destroyed camp of the teenagers[/spoiler]. Everything that happens is not explained by the game, but you as a player are motivated to explain it to yourself, getting creative in terms of what could be going on.

Dialogue
As explained above, the only dialogue is between Henry and Delilah, taking place while on the walkie-talkie. You, as the player, are given three options of what to answer, having only a limited amount of time to decide. The dialogue is one of the best features in the game!

Exploration
As this is a walking simulator, you’ll walk a lot. And surprisingly, the game is not an open world that has 5000 ways to one objective. Somehow there is only a straight way to your next objective, although the straight way is, in fact, a twisted, beautiful path.
And as a walking simulator, it doesn’t really give you the freedom of Skyrim or the combat system of the Arkham Series but instead gives you a map, that compares to a level of Call of Duty, with many areas being locked off or inaccessible until you get the right tool to do it and a story comparable to the likes of an Assassin’s Creed. And it works. It is no bad thing that a lot of areas are not accessible until you find, for instance, an axe. Because the story allows it. It grips you, you want to know what is going on, and that, compared with the environmental storytelling, really hits the nail on the head. Yes, you want to explore, but the game manages it to give you so much and so little to explore at the same time that you, as a player, are not even bothered by the fact that you cannot go into that cave right now, or possibly ever. (Losing the keys, honestly…)

Graphics
The games’ graphics are not realistic, but so beautiful! As you are a ranger, you’ll walk a lot outside and see a lot of sunrises and sunsets. And boy, they are beautiful. You can see that for yourself in my screenshots.
A bright yellow afternoon, going into a nice orange-red sunset. That describes a lot of this game’s scenic moments. As for I am colourblind, I am not the one to tell you about colours and stuff, just that it is very, very beautiful. For me, this game looks a lot like Borderlands, just toned down a lot, but with the beauty of a Witcher 3.

Sound/Music
The music is so beautiful, I do not even have words for it. It is very relaxing and surprisingly turned down to a minimum. It only starts at certain points, for instance when *SPOILER* your tower is broken into. Or when nobody talks and you can just enjoy a hike through the forest, listening to a gloomy guitar playing in the background, catching yourself humming along and having such a good time, in this beautiful game.

Controls
The controls are pretty straight forward, there is literally nothing fancy to it, no double bindings. It is, at the end of the day, a walking simulator.
The only thing I have to criticize is the weird animation when, for instance, climbing rocks. Henry doesn’t touch the rock, but his hands float a centimetre above said rock.

Recommendation:
Completionist
Obtaining all achievements is fairly easy, as long as you explore everything you’ll see. Seeing as the game only contains 10 achievements and 5 are definitely unmissable, you’ll have not really the need of a second playthrough to get all achievements.

Expectations
As explained at the beginning, my first encounter with Firewatch was while suffering from the flu, not wanting to watch anything with bright, flashing lights. Judging by the thumbnails of my favourite YouTube-channels, Firewatch was the game for me. And it was really a gem! I already knew the story when I began playing, but that did not diminish my experience at all. Seeing something is one thing, but experiencing that same thing, feeling immersed as Henry, seeing his story and the story of the game through his eyes, is just great and I can fully recommend it!

Watching for fires in the Firewatch seems to only be 1/100th of your job description.

Five minutes into the game, and I'm already sucked in. The dialogue, the voice acting, the story, it's all done well. You can hear the emotion in the character's voices, making it feel more believable and keeping you hooked.

Visually, the game is stunning. I'm running on maxed out settings. The scenery is gorgeous, no matter where you look, you'll find something you can print, frame, and hang

Campo Santo is going to be a developer that I will very closely watch.

Note: The game starts amazingly, but it does start to deteriorate towards the middle/end, for everything good it did, it still couldn't keep me hooked at the end.

Firewatch is still a solid 8/10.

Nature enthusiasts, people who like beautiful graphics and beautiful screenshots, and casual walking-sim fans will probably enjoy this game. I know I did! Fantastic graphics with a unique, memorable style paired with great voice acting and a nice slightly-mysterious storyline following a man who just wants a break from the hardships of life (and ends up uncovering another). A bit short though, so I personally waited for a sale.
Many people say that the ending of the game is disappointing, however I would say instead that the game is ????????????????????????????????????. Firewatch is built upon the premise of someone who wants to get away from reality for a little while, and at the end both we and the protagonist are reminded that although the game was fun, we should get back to reality and face our fears. I personally find realistic storytelling games like this to be great; however if you think realistic or flat endings ruin a whole game then you probably won't remember the game in a light sense.

Firewatch

An excellent indie game with a strong story and good gameplay. A first-person single-player, atmospheric, story-rich game developed by Campo Santo and released back in early 2016 by Panic, Campo Santo.

Firewatch has an absolutely stunning world and unique game design. The gameplay perfectly compliments the world and its art style.

Firewatch set in the Wyoming wilderness, where your only emotional lifeline is the person on the other end of a handheld radio.

Story

The story of Firewatch kick-off after Henry M. our main protagonists' wife develops dementia. Henry takes a job as a fire lookout in Shoshone National Forest, Wyoming. The Henry's first day at work Delilah contacts him using hand handle Walkie-talkie. Delilha introduces herself as Henry's supervisor.

As the days past Henry and Delilha gets comfortable with each other and keeps constant communication on there Walkie-talkies. During the course of their conversation, she revealed too much about her sex life. She keeps in constant contact with Henry from her position at the Thorofare Lookout.

Day 1: Henry departs his hometown of Boulder after joining the Forest Service's Firewatch program and is assigned to the Two-Forks Region. Upon arrival, Henry hikes for three days to the tower where he is greeted over the radio by his supervisor Delilah. The two exchange pleasantries before Henry retires for the evening.

Day 2: Henry awakens late in the afternoon and is once again called by Delilah who begins to orient Henry on his job duties before she notices fireworks in the distance. Due to the present fire danger and a lack of any nearby ranger she sends Henry to deal with the situation. Henry hikes towards Jonesy Lake. After a short tumble down a small shale slide, Henry arrives at the lake to discover a small campsite littered with liqueur bottles and beer cans (that the player can decide to pick up.) He finds two sets of clothes, backpacks, and a fire ring (player can stomp this out.) After confiscating the fireworks, Henry hears music in the distance and is lead towards the lake, discovering two sets of women's underwear along the way. Once at the lake he discovers two teenage girls blasting music, skinny dipping in the lake. The two quickly notice him and accuse him of being a peeping tom and pervert. After a brief verbal altercation, the girls flee and Henry heads back towards his tower.

And like this Henry's days pass on fairly claim with Delilha on the radio. Until he starts to suspect someone is been following him.
His Watch town gets raided and broken into when Henry was out patrolling.
Henry soon found out a clipboard that shows written down transcriptions of his and Delilha's radio chatter. Soon after discovering this he ran into a red taped up radio, upon investigating he was attacked from behind and left senseless.
Upon waking up he finds the clipboard and the red radio missing and Delilha worried sick on the radio. They decide to investigate the matter of who is been keeping an eye on them and here where I leave you the player to play throw Firewatch and enjoy the game.

Gameplay

Firewatch is an adventure first-person game with an absolutely stunning world and unique art style. The game lets you play as Henry. Newly appointed member of The Fire watch. The story takes place in the American state of Wyoming in 1989. Henry gets assigned to Two Forks Lookout tower in Shoshone National Forest. Henry's only means of communication is a walkie-talkie connecting him to his supervisor, Delilah.Delilha an interesting character with a sense of humor. Throw out the game Henry and Delilha gets comfortable with each other and keeps constant communication on there Walkie-talkies.

Players can go throw multiple dialog options while in conversations with Delilha.

The gameplay is simple which you the players have seen in other games. The default button mapping seemed odd and unique choice of keys to me.

During the gameplay, Henry can interact with a limited amount of things in his watchtower and throw out the map. The movement mechanics are basic and Simple. Basic walking, jogging, Climbing up and down from cliffs, interacting with items, and using them. Felt annoyed at times because of the slow movement speed and no running mechanics.

The Art style, world design, and atmosphere of the game perfectly complement the Story rich game. The leak of wildlife in a forest felt empty.

Great Story rich game. Stunning world and great art style.

Fire watchmen by day, professional photographer by night.

Too Long; Didn't Read: Firewatch is an incredibly beautiful game with a charming art style, kept engaging for players with its well-written and likeable characters.
Its gameplay is simple but helps add to the slow pace of the game. However, its resolutions and ending are just a little too sudden and unsatisfying, and the price does not match how much content is offered. This should not detract from the fact that this is a very enjoyable game, with lots of well-deserved confidence in its ability to tell a story tailored to the players’ choices.
It may be a linear story game, but the pure amount of freedom it gives its players helps it stand out from the others in its genre.

The Gameplay

Firewatch is telling a story through its world map at all times, never through cutscenes. Each day the game asks you to go from point a to b. But Firewatch gives its players an awful lot of freedom. Provided they have the right tools for the job, players can go in any direction they like, visit any location that takes their fancy, and gain an understanding for the world around them.

From day one around 70% of the map is yours to explore. And Firewatch was made with this in mind. Random encounters and dialogue is prepared for players who decide to go as far from the objective as possible.

Traversing the map is simple and adds to the slow theme of the game. Ropes for climbing to areas far below are plentiful, as are rocks to climb above. Natural bridges help you cross over to new areas or shortcut a long path. Optional Supply Caches help your player map become more detailed.

Exploring in Firewatch is always fun which is good for a game that is mostly walking. The controls ask nothing hard of the player and add to the carefree theme of the game. Simply paying attention to your surroundings will tell you which way to go.

The only problem with the gameplay is the length. Even when I got all achievements, explored every part of the map, and made sure to photograph everything, I only got 5 hours at most from the game. And the rewards at the end did not inspire me to play again, not even to see the consequences for other choices. The game is not worth £15 or $20, not for the content that is here. The game is worth experiencing, but the price does not reflect what is on offer here.

The Story

The story is the main attraction of Firewatch. The game stars Henry, our player character, as he spends his summer being the fire lookout for the Shoshone National Forest. Henry’s past is mostly predetermined and told to us early on. This helps the player step into Henry’s shoes and make decisions as him.

The only other major character is Delilah, another fire lookout with years of experience, who spends her days talking to Henry as she waits for the summer to end. Both characters are written really well, feeling believable and real. They also avoid obvious stereotypes, which helps them standout from other games' casts. Henry may seem like a broken man, but he is very down to earth, and Delilah is not the uncaring jerk she appears to be.

The writing is very good at choosing when it should be funny, and when it should be genuine. No major moments or serious decisions are ruined by a sudden joke or an unhelpful dose of sarcasm, which is a great strength of Firewatch; it knows how and when to keep the player both intrigued and entertained. This game's story has a lot of mystery and questions, but it builds up to it well with a charming and likeable introduction.

I do take issue with the ending. While it does tie up the loose ends and reveal the truth of the story, it feels all too fast and last minute, not helped by the slow and methodical pace the rest of the game has. Maybe it fits the story in that its a part of the subtle theme that nothing lasts forever, but I did not feel satisfied both times I finished the game.

Graphics & Soundtrack

Firewatch has one of the prettiest art styles in gaming. The game looks like a nature poster come to life, with it very well balancing both the cartoonish look of items and characters, and the realistic and vivid look of the world and its inhabitants.

I feel if it had either fully embraced either the realism or the cartoonish look, I and most players would not have enjoyed our time in the world nearly as much as we did, which I think is a testament to how well the developers mastered their balance of the art style.

The soundtrack is also really great, although it is absent for most of the game. It is very noticeable when it comes into play, it helps set the mood when needed and is dynamic in that it changes as the player makes decisions.

But ultimately it is absent for the majority of the story which I like, it allows the player to feel how they want without the music influencing their mood, and the environments already do a fantastic job of setting the scene without the need for music.

Performance & Bugs

The game runs really well and I experienced no crashes or major glitches, although graphically the game is a little demanding. Only bugs I noticed were visually with some night scenes seeming to bug out reflections on the ground, which is extremely noticeable, as well as the creek sometimes creating clouds of rocks in mid-air, looking a little more supernatural than was probably intended.

Final Score & Comments

I would give Firewatch an 8/10. It’s plot, characters and world are both fascinating and surprising, it has one of the best art styles and presentations in its genre, and it makes walking, the main thing you will do in the game, fun. But its lack of side or endgame content, and unsatisfactory ending will not inspire you to return, and do not warrant the price they charge. Still this game has and will be remembered for its fresh take on an adventure in the wilderness.

Since I am a forester I decided to buy this game so I could get some more action related to fire and all that.

Expectations: a fast paced rpg of s guy that decided to become a ranger so he could live alone in the woods and put out some fires tinoninoninono

Reality: a slow paced walking rpg of a guy that decides to become a ranger so he could run away from his previous life and keeps having smooth talks/hitting on someone through a walkie talkie (that he never saw) and where the main topic is creating intimacy, coping with life and existencial crisis while you learn about the US forest service.

Was what I expected? A total no.
If I still enjoyed it? fuck yes.
A spectacular walking simulator with a very rich and mysterious story, immersive dialogues and charming pastel like graphics.

Oh man it leaves you craving for more

Do I recommend this game? I don't know, I really don't know.

The game is so absorbing, the characters are so well written, every inch of the park is filled with intrigue and the story is so gripping. It's a really short game put it is remarkably paced and I wasn't bored for a single moment.

So what happened? Well the ending happened and it's just not good, like deal breakingly not good. I think the writers wanted to make some point about how the real world rarely has any big conspiracies behind things that happen and that there's usually some rational explanation, which is a valid point to make but it's such a let down: things usually aren't caused by some interesting conspiracy but without some twist or conspiracy or whatever, your story is no longer interesting. There's no pay off, a story that gives a bland, realistic explanation to all of the build up isn't an interesting story.

This game is so good right up until the end, they build up the story and draw you in so well but leave you with nothing. They paced the tension beautifully and really earned some mind-blowing, slap in the face ending but instead they ended with nothing, no release of the tension and intrigue they'd built.

I really want to recommend this game just for what it could have been but I can't. So disappointing.

Loved the mystic flame in the game. And also the moments of decision that puts you in a analytical state of mind. it also has has moments of coziness in it.

a couple of things you should know:
* there's a lot of feels
* more feels
* you get wound up
* you get wound down
* the feels

and there's also some serious continuity issues that are really the only problem with the game. i was peaking in my confusion and fear and then a random calm/funny interaction totally defuses the mood. big big oops.

but - still a really novel and interesting experience. with a lot of walking (but less than you think - in fact the game does a fantastic job when you think. oh crap, i have to walk across the entire map?? but then the story turns again.)

I feel like i'm looking at a painting in a gallery. Everyone around me is praising the painting for the amazing nuances and refined story giving it amazing reviews. However, I feel like i'm looking at a completely different painting that just doesn't live up to the hype that everyone else has built it up to.

The short and unsatisfying story that I experienced didn't hook me in and fell flat after the interesting introduction. While the game looks really great, i was never drawn into the world and never felt threatened by any of the 'spooky' elements that were introduced.

The game makes you think it is a sprawling open world, but it's a VERY linear experience that doesn't feel as fleshed out as other narrative i've played. It also turns out none of the careful dialogue choices I made throughout the game made any difference to the story, which made me really think hard about why I bothered agonising over the choices I made in the first place. It made me feel like I was just along for the ride being dragged around by the art director to look at the pretty game they've made.

I was waiting for the game to start, and then it was over. It felt like an introduction to a game, rather than the game itself.

It's a mundane trudge through a forest with a really unsatisfying conclusion that everyone seems to be in love with. I just feel like i've played a completely different game than everyone else.

A Brilliant Game.

I was hooked from the second I started playing it, it has such a rich and in-depth story that you're just gripped from start to finish. Although short, the game had me feeling all sorts of emotions, at times i was laughing, sometimes close to tears (scratch that, I'm a dude, I certainly don't cry when playing video games...), and I was even falling off the edge of my seat with suspense at certain moments!

It's so good, that if I were to play it again, I'm pretty sure it would not get old! 100% WOULD RECOMMEND THIS GAME!

This is a walking simulator that has good visuals and good voice work. It is a lot of back tracking over a map that is smaller than it seems at first. It felt like it was building up to something very interesting but the ending is a big let down.

When trying to put everything together there is a lot in the script that doesn't make sense. The logic is very inconsistent for how the characters choose to handle situations. It also doesn't make any sense that [spoiler] no one knows about the fenced in area that people are doing research in. Deliah doesn't know about it and no one she gets in contact with knows about it? Really? The rangers don't know about it? Wouldn't it be important that when the researchers are there the firewatch people and rangers both know about it so they can radio them in case anything happens, like a fire? There is no leap of logic that supports them NOT knowing about the fenced in area. [/spoiler]

I cannot recommend anyone buy this product, if you want the experience you can watch any let's play of it on youtube and you will not miss out on anything. It is a walking simulator that tries to appear interesting with a false mystery. The moral of the game is that life can be disappointing and not what we fear or expect it to be, just like this game.

The game becomes not quite a character study but a patient, reflective examination of how two people grow to trust and care for each other. It's a bold and admirable choice.
Possibly the best narrative on the market!
Finished 100% in about 7 hours, which took me longer then nessecary I think...

I just finished the game. I played it from start to finish in one sitting, for more than 4 hours straight. I should have gone to bed three hours ago but I just couldn't stop playing. Hell, I didn't even realise I had spent that much time already.

Firewatch is a MASTERPIECE, and a MASTERCLASS in storytelling. I don't want to say much because this is truly something that should be experienced by everyone first hand. Seriously, PLAY THIS. I am in absolute awe at how good this game is. Everyone should play this. I'll leave it at that.

One of the best story-driven games I have played in a long time. Incredible story-telling, easy going on the eyes and the graphics are simple yet pleasing. The game makes you feel like you're in an action story without actually being in one. With a constant story that develops and keeps you on the edge of your seat, this game is a must buy for anybody who likes single-player games. It's a game that I would pay to forget just so I could replay it and feel the same exhilaration. Will never forget it.

Honestly Firewatch to me is a 10/10. It's a simple game, but a deeply personal and relatable one. It's a story of a man struggling with life and finding comfort in nature and the sole person he has contact with while out there, and despite it being something distant there is a noticable connection there.

Henry isn't a superhero, he's just an average guy with relatable problems and put into a situation any of us can easily see ourselves in. And I can't recommend this game more to people.

I can't really explain this feeling... I didn't get to see Delilah even after I told her to wait. The fact that I never managed to see the person I've talked to the whole game feels a little sad and disappointing

Other than that, this is a really beautiful game. A truly unique experience.

This game is an incredible experience. I recommend it to anyone, I binged it in 3 hours and was amazingly satisfied. Than I showed it to my girlfriend who doesn't like playing video games at all and she was so into it she finished it in an afternoon. This game is an amazing experience no matter who you are and even if the ending doesn't live up to your expectations the journey is well worth it. Every piece of dialogue in the this game is well written and well acted. It's worth way more than the $20 price tag which is probably way less if you get it on sale. Either way the 3-4+ hours this game will likely run you is wellllll worth it. I've replayed twice just to explore other dialogue trees and finish the short list of achievements. PLAY THIS GAME!

If you like hiking, feeling like something ain't right and being on the edge of your seat, this game is for you.

Short but intense, featuring a well-written story and characters who talk like actual normal people (both of which are a rarity in games), it builds suspense masterfully.

A really relaxing game, with smooth textures and graphic.
I've never been so paranoid and relaxed at the same time, the story hits deep
and I would totally recommend it for people that enjoy the wilderness and know how
to use a map and compass.

About the story :
You play a character called Henry, he took the job as a Firewatcher to escape his life back at home.
He meets a girl on the radio, Delilah who gives him different tasks to do throughout the days.
Delilah gives Henry a certain mission that involves teens, things take a weird turn from there and both
Delilah and Henry feel watched.
Like someone is listening to their conversations and like someone is watching them as they speak.

You get more and more paranoid for each mission you get, you start to look
behind yourself more frequently and you can't really enjoy the wilderness anymore.
Fires start to appear more frequently as well and you can't stop asking yourself why and by who.
Everything takes a more horrifying turn from there as you start to enter different areas.
