Classic game that needs more attention. I bought this game since Jet Set Radio Future isn't available on Steam and it didn't disappoint. I don't think the controls are necessarily clunky as many are stating. They just take some getting use to. Graffiti gets tedious after awhile though and slows down the pace. The music is FANTASTIC and has to be one of my favorite soundtracks of all time. 8/10

What can i say about this game? Well it's a masterpiece, from music to mindlessly grinding through tokyo-to, not even mentioning the amazing cell-shaded graphics that this game has. I recommend this game to anyone who would want a fun and a bit challenging game. Also, please release Jet Set Radio Future on Steam Sega. You are missing a big opportunity here!

game is HARD carried by its art style and music. the gameplay is OCCASIONALLY incredible, slinging together jumps, grinds, and graffiti smoothly feels sick.

but honestly, this game handles like a brick most of the time with a terrible camera and characters that feel too heavy. you snap to things you didn't mean to, momentum recovers so slowly, it reminds me a lot of original sonic where you'd be going so fast then hit a spike or something and bam it's suddenly a terrible platformer. i'd rather hit a hard slam going downhill on a skateboard and shred my elbow to bits losing half a mug of blood and ending up in the hospital for 6 stitches again than fall off a rail in those stupid race levels in this game

overall yea it's kinda fun i guess recc

Oh boy, where do I start...

Jet Set Radio is unlike any other game I have seen before and I wish I had played it sooner! I've been putting it off because I though it would be like GTA which isn't my type of game.

The style of this game is iconic. Hideki Naganuma is definitely one of my favourite video game music producers and I would consider JSR's soundtrack to be one of my all time favourite video game soundtracks of all time. If you're not intending to buy the game, you should AT LEAST listen to the soundtrack. The art style is timeless, the use of cel shading makes the game look good even by today's standards.

The game generally controls well, although it can be a bit clunky at times, however I would recommend playing this game with a controller. I played this game with my keyboard because I'm poor, and when it came to graffiting I could only play as characters who had less complicated moves. So, please, PLEASE play this game with a controller for the definitive experience.

As for the plot it's thrown so many curveballs at me in it's insane! One of the best parts of this game, in my humble opinion, is seeing how brutal the police gets with their attempts in stopping you. From tanks, to tear gas, you name it! Not to mention the ending, which I will obviously not spoil, after finishing the game I was in such a state of shock that I had begun taking yoga classes. It's not shocking in the sense that it is horrifying or traumatic, it's just REALLY bizarre and I didn't know how to process it.

However, I would DEFINITELY recommend this game, it's such a great experience that no other game could ever replicate (well ignoring Bomb Rush Cyberfunk).

Now SEGA, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD PLEASE PORT JET SET RADIO FUTURE TO STEAM! I wanna play it so bad, not to mention many other titles of yours...

Another super sweet classic SEGA game you really have to try! Skating around being a menace and tagging up the town can be a great way to pass the time. The neat art style, the music, and the interesting stage design really bring this package together. It's super cheap these days and a really great game so whether for nostalgia or a first time play I definitely recommend this one!

As a Black teen who loves Asian culture and is a skater and loves Hiphop, I cannot recommend this game any bit more, I also vandalize things so this game exceeds my every desire. My lust for skating, vandalism, friends, y2k fashion, japanese scenery, and exquisite music production is momentarily quenched by this game.

Jet Set Radio is a classic game that even today is still an absolute joy to play. The cel-shaded graphics are great and have been copied in many other games since. It has my favourite soundtrack of all time, with a mix of hip-hop, J-pop and rock songs that are all brilliant. The gameplay has you skating around, doing tricks and tagging in order to build up points, while avoiding the police. Even though the controls are occasionally a bit clunky, and the camera sometimes gets in the way the gameplay is nevertheless very fun. Overall, this game is excellent and I highly recommend it.

Legit one of my favorite games of all time, the music and the aesthetic is so unique and honestly unmatched by anything today. The game is pretty fun, albeit the controls can be wonky at first, but you'll probably get used to it after using it for a bit. If you're looking to get into the game/the franchise than this is for sure a great port! And for 8$ its not a bad price either.

This is the greatest game ever bestowed upon us by Japan.
The controls are infuriating and the camera is trying to give you whiplash but if you say this game is not good you're a dirty commie trying to subvert the concepts of freedom and goodwill.
Get down on your knees and beg for forgiveness for even questioning the sheer Awesomeness of this game!
You are not worthy, and yet here it is just for you for like 7 bucks. Buy it now and worry about feeding your family some other time. They'll thank you when they see what you spent their sustenance on. Their souls will be fed with the funkiest tunes and most stylish visualz you've ever laid your pathetic eyes on.
Once again: you are not worthy.

This is basically the holy grail of video games, if you don't have it you're going to Hell.
And if someone doesn't put Jet Set Radio Future on Steam pretty soon then THEY'RE going to Hell too. whoever they are.

A good classic game from childhood, controls can be clunky at times and having a controller makes everything much easier since this was a game made for consoles however if you already have a controller (or don't mind getting one) you can fully enjoy this game and even make your own graffiti if your creative enough while grinding and escaping the cops all over town.

Incredible game from the Dreamcast era & absolutely dripping with style. Amazing music, graphics that still hold up fair well today in 4k. BEFORE playing be sure to look up the save file fix.

Sadly the biggest negative is, the game has been left in a state where every time you relaunch the game it does some funky stuff with your save requiring you to start over. Granted, this is a super easy fix, but something you should be aware of before purchasing.

Sheeeeeeeeeeeeee's a magical girl.

This game is like if Splatoon was about graffiti and rollerskating. It's got a classic style that still holds today, the music's fresh and fun, and Toyko-to really feels like a cool place. The gameplay is different, and while it is hard to adjust to, pulling off tricks, building combos, and getting good scores is satisfying. The final boss was my least favorite part of the game. EIther way, it was a great time and I hope for its sequel, JSRF, to release on modern platforms.

i REALLY wanted to like this game, I've never played a jet set radio game until now, so when i saw how intriguing the gameplay and how much of a bop the soundtrack was, i bought it. what I've been playing is what feels like trying to control a car in a skating game while the levels are constantly throwing walls at you. the controls for this game have not age positively in any way. the soundtrack, style, and gameplay ideas are still pretty good though, but playing through this game is a frustrating mess. I've played a bit of Future and the controls have been way better than this game. If you can, get future instead.

It's a cult classic that involves rollerblading, street art, and all sorts of shenanigans. A must play for any SEGA fans, and especially for anyone into rollerblading.

Well, the game is extreeemely stylish. The graphics are beautiful, the art direction is unique and full of life, the music is amazing... but the gameplay is not that good, sadly. I thought and wanted SO badly to like and love this game, but I had to leave it at the third episode, because I wasn't really enjoying PLAYING it (I still love watching other people playing it, and love its mere existence).

The controls are not precise nor reliable, the camera has its problems and the level design is kind of chaotic. And personally, there wasn't an interesting story or an immersive atmosphere in order to ignore that and keep playing. If you enjoyed it at its moment, you'll probably enjoy it today too. But if not, just be wary at the moment of picking it.

I actually grew up with Jet Set Radio Future - this is the first time I'm playing Jet Set Radio. I would think it aged well; the controls are a bit janky though in comparison and I was playing with a pro controller. I got frustrated after a while because the mechanics just aren't as smooth as the newer JSR, but that's probably considering it came out so long ago.

Pretty fun game. For 85% off, I just couldn't resist. JSR has aged very well in the visuals department. The view distance of objects & structures is much improved over the DC version. The performance seems to be on-par with the DC. Almost any laptop made within the last 10 years shouldn't have any trouble running this game in standard HD res. My laptop has Intel HD Graphics 4000 and is handling the game well at 1360x768 with 2x msaa. I've only played past the 3rd mission and so far so good. Only issue I had was on the setup screen, right after launching the game; the options are very hard to see in standard HD. Some peeps have reported the game not saving progress. Fortunately, my save file is in tact. As for JSR's music... I play at a low volume, so I can't say much about it. The controls of JSR are adequate. It uses the Xbox layout, but any modern controller like a DualShock 4 will work just fine.

A Dreamcast classic.

Jet Set Radio was very innovative for it's time. Aggressive inline skating, graffiti painting, cel-shaded, anti-establishment, Tokyo disctrict trip.

I want to say first that I've never played the game before now. If you have nostalgia for this game and still think it's fun, that's great, more power to you. But for me, the game feels clunky, unresponsive and downright annoying in its gameplay department. And that's despite the great soundtrack, unique style and decent tagging system. I really think if this game got a modern sequel all of these issues could be improved easily and I think that would make the game much more enjoyable to someone like me, but as it stands, once I got to the american levels, I just couldn't deal with it anymore.

The Funky Rhythm Comin' Atcha!

System and Setup:

Windows 10 64bit
Intel Core i9 10900K
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER

No fixes or tweaks were necessary. The game ran at 1440p widescreen without any problems.

Opinion:

Jet Set Radio is a platforming game about rollerblading, spraying graffiti all over town, staying one step ahead of the pigs trying to stop you and looking stylish while doing it.

It's impressive how well this game still holds up, twenty years after its original release on the Sega Dreamcast. Usually you'd expect a game so focused on being cool to come off as dated and out of touch as time went on, but not here. Its unique cel shaded art style allows the visuals to age gracefully, while the character designs and soundtrack still largely hold up today. (Okay, well, maybe Dragula is a bit dated...)

It's unfortunate that the game is locked to 30fps, but that's not a deal breaker for me. Furthermore, the movement controls can be a bit awkward due to everybody being on skates, but they get easier to deal with as you play. When the stars do align and you manage to pull off a string of tricks and tags, the game is at its best.

The main game takes about five hours to beat, but keep in mind I've already played the game multiple times so it's slightly faster for me than somebody who's coming in blind. People who try to do everything can expect the game to last much closer to ten hours.

An easy recommendation.

The graphics dont look that aged thanks to the artstyle and the games camera and gameplay is great, its really a blast to play and the music is astonishly good.
Its about 6-7 hours long and worth the money but i'd recommend buying it on sale because then its just a few euros.

Jet Set Radio is a Dreamcast game and that is apparent from the moment you boot the game up. Vibrant, popping graphics (which look amazing in 4K sans the low res textures in some instances) with fast, arcadey gameplay, and incredible music means it carries the tradition well. People say it's a classic, and I agree with them that it is unforgettable. However, I did come to the conclusion that the game have some problems holding it back.

The idea behind Jet Set Radio is simple but very unique. You play as a street punk who skates around and paints graffiti all over a city while avoiding obstacles. Indeed, the closest this game gets to combat is riding up behind enemies and spraypainting their backs so that they stay in place for a while. Never did I thought I'd see a game centered around breaking the law be so non-violent. Well, at least due to the player; the enemies in this game range from cops to paratroopers to helicopters to tanks to suicide bombers to pyromaniacs. The escalation over something as simple as petty vandalism is in and of itself highly entertaining to see. Speaking of vandalism as gameplay, the concept works very well, it's fun to zoom around well-designed stages (for the most part) that are essentially playgrounds for movement to tag the place as quickly and efficiently as possible. Having to consider how much paint you have and routing restocks into your movement always keeps the player engaged rather than just going to where the red arrows tell you to go. The game feels sluggish at first, but that's because of a rather steep learning curve. It reminds me of Genesis Sonic in the sense that the game is all about finding how to keep your momentum. You have to grind, wallride, and do well-timed dashes to really zoom around, and therein lies the satsifaction of learning the game's movement. It's a type of weighty physics that requires a bit of time to get used to, but after a while you'll find that it fits the game perfectly (or that the game is well designed around it, either or). The stages are all memorable; no two feel alike, and they especially shine when doing larger missions that give you access to an entire area rather than a level-sized chunk of it. The missions have a decent variety too; even though you'll be spraypainting graffiti a lot of the time, things like races and 'boss battles' where you need to chase around others to tag their backs breaks up the monotony. The music is absolutely incredible, and gets you perfectly pumped for this style of gameplay. Much like the Tony Hawk games, 90% of the game is a tracklist picked randomly, but the songs are so high-energy that listening to repeats doesn't feel bad at all, and helps with the immersion of feeling like a punk who turned their headphones into a radio station.

However, the game does have some missteps, none really that glaring but enough to sum together to turn a 'great' game into a 'just good' game. Most notably is the control scheme. I just have to ask, in a game that literally doesn't use two of the four face buttons, why the graffiti button is the same button to recenter the camera? In a game that demands precise movement, misjudging when you're able to tag has the potential to send you veering off course. This isn't much of an issue for stationary tag spots, but for enemies that are moving around with you it can make the experience frustrating. Often times I found that it wasn't worth it to actually do anything to the enemies and just tank their attacks as I sprayed certain spots. I get that it might have been done so that it was easier to jump and tag in quick succession, but there really needed to just be an option to just use the face buttons when needed. Also, despite the levels being really well designed, there are a few exceptions. Sometimes they don't loop around, or are awkwardly arranged in a way that makes traversing them not feel smooth. This problem is more apparent in the big, open missions, which makes them really feel like a bunch of mini-levels were smushed together. There are a lot of different characters to unlock and play as, which is nice, but there's little functional difference between them. You might be a bit faster or have a bit more health, but it's nothing major. I wish that the characters would have had unique traits that went beyond stats, like being able to brake instantly or double jump.

Lastly, and this was the big dealbreaker for me, the game is short. Really short. I knew going in that it was going to be an arcadey game, but the first chapter had 3 stages each in 3 sections of the city. It was a satisfying amount of content. However, Chapter 2 has only 2 stages (one of which takes place in the worst map of the game, bar none) and Chapter 3 has only 5. This doesn't include the rival challenges or the score levels, but those don't add much to the play time and the score attack stages can only be played so many times before they get old. The saving grace here would have been to let people replay any mission after the story ended to try to get the highest rating on each stage at their leisure, but after the credits roll you are dumped into new game plus, which is the same as new game except with all your characters and graffiti tags unlocked. Potentially, you need to play through the entire game just to retry a certain level, unless you quit out at the results screen and reboot the game entirely. This is a remarkably poor design choice which turns getting maximum ratings from a fun challenge to a terrible chore and one that I was unwilling to do. As it is, just seeing everything the game has to offer took me about 6 hours, which is a fair length for 8 dollars, but I would have probably been miffed about it if I paid full price for this game when it came out.

Overall, Jet Set Radio is a pretty good game. It's unforgettable, at the very least, with a sense of style that screams with soul. I give it a solid B. Definitely worth playing once, though you probably won't feel the need to stick around unless you're the type of gamer who loves chasing high scores. It's a shame that Jet Set Radio Future never got a PC port, as I hear that it fixes a lot of these problems. I hope I'll be able to play it one day without having to shell out for console hardware on eBay.

When you first start the game you might hate it. The controls are very tricky - some may say floaty or slow or shit, but definitely tricky. Many give up here because simply moving from point A to point B is infuriating, but the music, the style, the feeling of pulling off a 10 trick combo pulls you back in to play the next stage. Eventually you get to a point where you can easily pull off a 150 trick combo and get a Jet ranking on every stage first try. That is when the game gets good.

Jet Set Radio is like learning to roller skate - you'll stop tumbling and falling over if you just take them off, but standing back up and getting good is the most fun you can have. It's a meaningless achievement but the pain that lead to this moment was absolutely worth it. JET SET RADIOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Jet Set Radio's an cult classic with good reason: striking visuals that still look great 20 years after release, unique gameplay that hasn't been matched, and a legendarily funky soundtrack by Hideki Naganuma! The port's really well done; the HD upscaling and anti-aliasing smooths out the rough edges from the Dreamcast. There's not as many options as I'd like and most of them have to be configured in the launcher pre-game, but I can roll with that. Gameplay is clunky at first, but you learn it fairly quickly; some elements, like the restrictive timer and grind rails that are hard to jump onto, really should've been left in the past, though. There's nothing like skating through the streets of Tokyo-To, grinding on vents and rails, jumping across rooftops, and tagging walls while evading the police. Oh, and you'll absolutely want a controller for this one; it's probably doable on keyboard and mouse, but it won't be as much fun.

Intro

Jet Set Radio is a rollerskate game where you chain combos by grinding and draw graffitis, which are more known as tagging. There are different objectives at each level although most of them are about tagging in the required spots while avoiding cops or thugs within a time limit.

Pros:
- A lot of selectable characters with different abilities
- A lot of different game modes
- You can challenge yourself by aiming for the highest rating or completing a particular objective in each level
- Collectibles in each map

Cons:
- Controls are not keyboard-friendly
- You need some time to get used with the controls
- Some levels are redundant

Should you buy this game?

Yes.
If you're looking for something new, try this. It's a game with unique gameplay that's hard to find. Make sure you're not playing with keyboard and have the patience to master the mechanics though.

Considering that this game has been out since years ago, I can say that the graphics aged well. The developer's decision to use cell shading for the graphics work out in their favor because the characters still look decent and unique at this time of writing.

The character models have low poly count, which means that the 3D models won't have much detail in it. You don't have to worry about it though since the characters are usually shown from afar. The only time you're going to see the characters from up close is when there are cutscenes in some levels.

Story

The story doesn't make sense to me. It starts with the usual turf wars between gangs before a big guy shows up all of a sudden and tries to do weird things. I find that the story is suitable for teenagers though because the game's theme is pointed towards them and the turf wars and graffiti match very well with it.

The game

Mechanics
This game focuses on two points: grinding and tagging. You can grind by jumping into any rails or object that looks like you can step on and keep on chaining tricks by jumping to other places to rack up points.

On the other hand, tagging is more simple. You just need to collect enough spray cans that are scattered in the area and press a button to start tagging in certain spots.

Graffitis
There are three different graffiti types: small, large, and extra-large. Although you can do small tags easily with one button press, the large and extra-large tags need more work.

After you press the tag button, there will be some directions that you need to follow with your analog stick or arrow buttons. You need to finish 3 sets of directions for large and 7 sets for extra-large. Each set will require an extra spray can although you'll still lose a spray can and break your combo whenever you fail to do it.

There are a lot of graffitis that you can choose from and the game also allows you to make custom graffitis.

Controls
As I said before, tagging requires you to follow a set of directions to finish. The problem is, you need to use a controller for that because you'll need to turn your analog button for it. Imagine that you have to press up, right, down, left just to turn an analog stick clockwise. There are also a lot of directions to press so you'll need to press a lot of buttons to finish it.

There are also some useless tricks that you need to achieve to finish the tutorial. These useless tricks are also hard to accomplish and you need to repeatedly press a button until you get it with luck.

Tutorial
The tutorial is divided into several lessons where you have to do something to finish it. Some lessons are not clear enough that I had no idea what to do until I watched a video while some lessons require you to chain a lot of combos that you need to master the area to clear it. Honestly, I finished the tutorial by luck because I couldn't seem to chain a lot of combos in that area.

Modes
There are a lot of game modes in the game. The usual mode is to tag any red tags in the area while avoiding cops or thugs within the time limit. Some levels also have optional green tags for you to tag. The game will become harder after you tag a certain amount of red tags by introducing a new enemy.

There is also a mode where you have to tag other gangs, rack up points, and race against someone. The final level is also very different than the other bosses and unfit to the game's theme because it looks spooky.

Areas
The game has 5 main areas with ~3 smaller areas in the first 3 areas. There is also a mode where you have to explore all of the areas in one main area at the same level so expect the map to be very large. There are also a lot of secret paths in the game that can help you to tackle some levels.

Difficulty
Since the game uses the same area, the game's difficulty is a bit weird compared to other games. The difficulty will spike when you play on a new map and it will be reduced after you play in the same area several times. To be honest, I frustrated a lot when I played the game for the first few hours because I couldn't seem to finish a stage because of this.

I usually watched a video whenever I tackle a new area to know the red tag locations although I still need to spend some hours to learn the technique and clear the level. However, since some levels are usually placed in the same areas, some levels become redundant.

Collectibles
The game has collectibles that are scattered through each area where you need to either perform a trick or explore a secret area to get it. Collecting them will unlock a graffiti that you can choose in the graffiti page.

Characters
There are a lot of unlockable characters in the game. Each character has different stats that mainly differ based on their power, technique, graffiti, and can storage. Some characters will only show up if you have completed a certain requirement. You also need to complete their challenge to recruit them to your gang. These challenges are usually in the form of either copying their moves or winning a race against them.

Length
The game can be finished in less than 5 hours if you already understand the game's mechanics and only finished the story levels. However, you might spend more time if you want to unlock everything. I spent ~40h just to get everything in Jet rating. You also can replay the game 2 more times to unlock a certain character and aim for a certain achievement.

Performance
I'm not sure if it's because of the game or my device, but the game slows down at certain places, especially in chapter 3 when there are a lot of bombs involved. The timer on the top right is still working normally though so I suspect that it's the game's fault.

Conclusion

This is a game with unique gameplay that might need a lot of time to get used to. You'll find how enjoyable this game is after spending some hours in. The game is basically about performing tricks and drawing graffitis on the wall with a lot of unlockables. Some areas also have secret areas that you can find and utilize to finish the level faster.

This game is a masterpiece with some slight jank.
PROS
- The music is banger
- The skating is really fun, and getting high-scores is actually fun instead of tedious
- The voice acting, with as little as it is in the game, is incredicle as each VA really gave it their all.
- New Game + encourages you to replay the game with all the characters you unlocked
CONS
- The grafiti QTE can take some time getting used to. Even more since each character has a unique one.
- The missions where you aren't just tagging can range from boring to tedious.
- Some of the level design can be a bit wonky. Specfically ones that require you to grind everywhere.
- The last quarter of the game really drags on, and I found myself getting angry really quickly.

Overall, this is a great game with some minor issues that do not prevent it from being fun. Check it out. Become a fan. And join us in hoping the sequel will one day get a remaster.

A Sega's timeless classic. First played it on my iPad, loved it so much I finished it twice. Then did it again on PS3 and now on Steam (will probably do a 5th later haha!).

The style, the game play, the music and everything is a piece of Art. I hope one day they'll remaster Jet Set Future, dying to try that one!

This game is has style with substance but little substance with style.

The core aspect of this game that everyone knows and loves is its style. From the amazing art style to the incredible soundtrack this game is all about it. The world this game offers is just fun to exist in. There are tons of distinct characters, each with their own unique appeal, and different locations which are quite enjoyable as well. Whether it is the bright streets of Shibuya-cho or the moody alleys of Benten-cho this game has surprisingly good atmosphere. The story is wacky and doesn't really amount to much but it fits the game well enough to be a fun addition. I really wish more games were this ambitious when it came to their presentation.

On the other side we have the substance or what you actually do in the game. I did not find the gameplay execution of skating around and spray painting random spots to be super engaging. The skating mechanics and feel are pretty good but take a while to adjust to. They have not aged super well and at first it is really awkward but they do their job. The graffiti on the other hand is a different story. It consists of quick time events preformed with the analogue stick. While not a horrible idea it just never feels good enough to be a core pillar of the gameplay. The game piles different obstacles on top of these core mechanics but it never really goes anywhere super interesting with it. What is there is alright but it could have been better.

Sega desperately needs to return to and further develop this series. Their Dreamcast era is my personal favorite and this is a shining achievement of that time.

I really love this game and can look passed its gameplay short comings because there is nowhere else I can get anything quite like it. I highly recommend this game to anyone who's looking for something stylish or different.

From the perspective of someone in the year 2020, who has never played this game before.

OH MY GOD.

What an amazing experience this game is. It is oozing in an artstyle that will keep it relevant forever. An absolute treasure and joy that needs to be played instead of read about.

Ignore the reviews complaining about controls. Play with a gamepad.

Just pop this sucka in, pretend it’s the year 2000 and roll with it.

a classic masterpiece ported to pc... yet feels like a very lazy port with no effort put into the port.. keyboard and mouse controls are god awful and game only shows controls for xbox controller... also its locked at 30 fps... why.. better off just emulating the dreamcast version which can run at 60fps and with better controls as well

I am sure this is a great game, and I don't know if this is just a Steam thing or not, but the controls are terrible. I tried playing with both controller and mouse + keyboard, but neither felt good to play at all. I really love the style and music, and I am sure the gameplay is fun, but the controls make it more frustrating than fun.

Update: I decided to give it another go, and I think I am starting to get used to the controls. I still think they're bad, but perhaps I will be able to tolerate them enough to continue playing.

In my ongoing and likely futile effort to write a Steam review for every game in my library (#224 out of 558)... it's time for Jet Set Radio.

It's not Jet Set Radio Future, so it's not nearly so fun as it could be, and I have a hard time recommending it to anyone. But at the same time, if enough people buy Jet Set Radio, maybe The Powers That Be will eventually port Jet Set Radio Future to Steam, and I would like to see that very, very much.

So please buy Jet Set Radio. Who knows, you may even like it! --Especially if you're unfamiliar with its far superior sequel. At the very least, you'll get to experience one of the most unique, bizarre games out there--it's a dystopian retropunk sci-fi rollerblading street art game)--and possibly catch a glimpse of that wild, inventive spirit that once made SEGA one of the biggest names in the industry.

While the controls haven't really aged well, the gameplay, the soundtrack, the artstyle, definitely have aged fine like wine.
Jet Set Radio is of the greatest 3D platformers ever made. A flawed masterpiece with excellent animations, the most creative use of QTEs in a video game (thanks to the graffiti, which can be customizable) and (most of the times) great level design.
Worth experiencing at least once.

Now let me get Jet Set Radio Future on Steam as well, Sega. That would be lovely.

Okay so first thing's first, this game has some of the best Aesthetics ever. Although it feels like the team was held back by graphics at the time and budget, and possible a release date, the idea is still there and it's amazing as all hell.
The game is pretty short but worth the price, and the game is really satisfying when you're doing real well, not to mention the great and unique soundtrack. Has some good character designs too.

The game definitely has issues though, I wish it actually told you what the character stats do, does technique do more than give you points? Dunno, and if you don't care for points than it's just useless. The game can be hard at times, feeling like a rage game even if you suck at video games such as myself. It also feels like simply moving is a chore, the characters don't build too much momentum unless you're obviously going down a hill and you constantly have to press the dash button over and over, which wouldn't be a problem, but it feels like even the dash isn't enough to go as fast as you'd like. This could be to make it feel more rewarding but I wish there was more speed and momentum in the game, or maybe for a character. I'd also like if there was more gameplay to graffiti rather than just copying inputs. There's also some level design adjustments I'd like along with some story fixes here and there.

Overall, great game, deserves a revival, deserves a sequel port, and has an infinite amount of untapped potential yet to be explored.
