"Legend of Grimrock" ist ein Dungeon-Crawling-Rollenspiel mit einem altbewährten Spielprinzip, aber in einem modernen Gewand. Eine Gruppe Gefangener wird für grausame Verbrechen, die sie möglicherweise gar nicht begangen haben, in den sicheren Tod auf den einsamen Berg Grimrock verbannt.
Die Bewacher wissen jedoch nicht, dass der Berg von oben bis unten voll mit alten Tunneln, Höhlen und Gräbern längst untergegangener Zivilisationen ist.
Wenn die bunt zusammengewürfelte Gruppe Gefangener jemals wieder das Tageslicht erblicken und ihre Freiheit zurückgewinnen will, muss sie ein Team bilden, um sich Level für Level einen Weg durch den Berg zu bahnen.

Ja ist es denn schon 1990?

Hey, Spieler! Ja, Du da! Hier drinnen bin ich, ich bin in so nem fiesen Magierturm gefangen. Ich will Dich nicht nerven, aber kannst Du mir hier raus helfen?
Das ist alles ganz seltsam hier. Ich kann kaum laufen, immer nur einen Riesenschritt auf einmal und ich kann mich nur in 90 Grad Winkeln drehen. Ich krieg Motion Sickness ohne Ende, hilf mir bitte!
Dauernd kommen mir total ruckartig laufen Kreaturen entgegen, ich klopp die weg wie nix und sammel immer Zeugs auf, aber wieso hat denn ne Spinne eine Axt dabei und tragen Fledermäuse hier denn wirklich Panzerhandschuhe? Und immer alles genau in meiner Größe, passt wie angegossen. Dafür kann ich nur einen Ring pro Hand tragen, aber ich hab doch zehn Finger! Ist das verrückt.
Und behalt das für Dich, aber pssst. Ich glaub, ich bin hier gar nicht allein. Hier scheinen zwei Typen mit mir rumzuhängen, aber gesehen hab ich die noch nie. Ich kann mich drehen wie ein Brummkreisel, aber die bleiben wohl im toten Winkel oder so. Sau Gespenstisch ist das, sag ich Dir.

Ich weiß auch gar nicht, was ich hier soll, keiner hat mir was gesagt. Peng! Biste in nem dunklen Turm und außer, das ich raus will, weiß ich nix. Frustrierend. Ich würd so gern mal den Himmel über mir sehen. Ich kenn nur Decken und weiß gar nicht, was so ein Himmel ist, aber ich MUSS den sehen. Kannst Du mir helfen, das zu schaffen?

Tja, lieber Spieler, nun hab Dich mal nicht so, hilf dem armen Kerl doch mal ein wenig.
Und ja, es ist wirklich absolut alles unglaublich klassisch. Die Grafik ist grauselig, der Sound auch. Man rennt nur in rechten Winkeln und alles ist permanent dunkel. Story gibts im Grunde gar nicht. Ein Dungeon Crawler in Reinform.
Aber ein richtig guter eben. Alles ist geboten, was man in den guten alten 90´ern so braucht. Aber eben auch nicht mehr. Und ist das schlimm?
Nein!
Das bisschen Gegenwartsflucht darf man sich mal gönnen, zurück in die absolut Un-Open-World. Wie auf Schienen in vorgefertigten Bahnen laufen erspart viele Entscheidungen und manchmal ist weniger dann auch mal mehr. Einfach mal abschalten und in schöner, simpler Nostalgie schwelgen hat auch was für sich und macht auch heute noch Spaß.

Und wenn Du Dich auch manchmal in gute alte simplere Zeiten zurücksehnst, dann probier doch mal ein Ründchen im Dungeon. Aber dreh Dich bloß nie in nem 37 Grad Winkel, dann zerstörst Du die gesamte Realität ... ;-)

You liked or loves the Beholder series and/or Ultima Underworld I + II? Then this gem might be something for you.
It has most of the elements loved in the predecessors. You will surely enjoy it.

Toller Oldschool-Dungeon-Crawler mit reichlich Kampf und Rätseln.
Einzig der Endboss ist so mit das Dümmste, was ich in 25 Jahren Videospielerfahrung gesehen habe!

Eine absolute Empfehlung! Erst eine Stunde Spielzeit - aber ich LIEBE es bereits heiss und innig! Seelige Might+Magic oder Schwarze Auge Zeiten. Die Grafik - nunja - ein 3D-Spieler wird abgeschreckt sein, aber der Spielwitz und das Spielpotential ist RIESIG!

An absolute MUST HAVE! Onyl nearly an hour playtime, butr I love it alrady. You love Might+Magic, Dungeons and Dragons? You MUST buy this! Dont judge the grafics - dive in the game!

Looking at my Steam achievements, it'll be 10 years in April that I originally played Grimrock. Where has the time gone?

This may be the only game I've played that I can return to year after year and find new content that still keeps my attention. The base game is a fine dungeon crawler, but the game really shines with the community content. I especially enjoyed the player-created Dungeon Master remake, which is incredibly faithful to the original. I've played a couple other user scenarios that are also of high quality.

As long as this game keeps a solid player base, I could see returning to this in another 10 years and trying to test my wits on future user-made content. They may not make games like they used to, but Legend of Grimrock is the perfect bridge between classic CRPG and modern dungeon crawler. We can also thank LOG for some decent clones that came afterwards (Dungeon of Dragon Knight, Ruzar: The Life Stone, Fall of the Dungeon Guardians). A true timeless classic that any fan of computer games in general needs to try out.

If you played Dungeon Master on your Amiga (or Atari ST if you were unlucky) and loved it, you will love this one. It's hard though. Annoyingly hard, but doable. So far...

Update: After completing the game, I feel I can upgrade my review to god-damn-fantastic. This surpassed my memory of Dungeon Master. Moving on to #2!

A great modern take on the classic dungeon crawling RPGs of old that I can see is definitely not for everyone! I highly recommended this to people who want a challenging old school dungeon crawl experience. The setting, monsters, puzzles, and items all just make that nerdy DND fan within you giddy with joy.

Be warned that this game can get very frustrating with its very non-hand holdy approach to gameplay. The game rewards keen observation, strategy, and a whole lot of patience to get through. Every encounter can be a life or death situation and knowing when to back out to re-assess things is greatly encouraged.

That being said, a major piece of advice I can give to people who are starting out with this is to KEEP SAVING! With almost everything out to kill you in this game, save scumming is pretty much a necessity to ward away your frustration.

Just an awesome dungeon, nice character progression, nice spell casting that makes you feel that you are really a mage, and some very nice puzzles as well that feel great when youve finished them

SHORT REVIEW
Legend of Grimrock is a good solid dungeon crawler. If you like classic dungeon crawlers then this game is definitely for you but if they are not really you're thing then probably best to give it a miss.

PLOT: The plot (which is never a strong point of dungeon crawlers) is eminently forgettable.

GAMEPLAY: Grid based dungeon crawler relying very heavily on the “attack and side step” style of play.

DIFFICULTY: I played on the “Normal” difficulty setting (out of Easy, Normal & Hard) and found that to be about right. The difficulty is a “one shot” choice made at the very beginning of the game and you can't change it part way through. Some of the puzzles are infuriating and are unaffected by the difficulty setting, see the long review for more details on this problem.

GRAPHICS & SOUND: Good and more than adequate for the game but not exceptional by today's standards.

REPLAY VALUE: Limited. I would say you should play through this game twice. The first play through being “blind” and the second play through using a guide to try and find a lot the secrets you missed the first time round.

ISSUES AND BUGS: None. The game works “straight out of the box” with no messing around and appears to be completely bug free.

ACHIEVEMENTS AND TRADING CARDS: Partial integration with the Steam platform, Steam achievements for those interested but no trading cards.

VALUE FOR MONEY: Good. The game is competitively priced for what it is but I would put it in the “wait for a discount in a sale” category rather than the “buy it now at full price” category as its is about ten years old so and gets heavily discounted in sales.

LONG REVIEW
Legend of Grimrock is a good solid dungeon crawler very much in the style of Dungeon Master and Eye of the Beholder. I've seen reviews of several other dungeon crawlers that say “Buy Legend of Grimrock instead” but in fairness to the other games whilst this is pretty solid it isn't without its own issues. The main issues I have with this game are:

1: The secrets / puzzles: There are just too many of them and just get monotonous and irritating. They are basically either “find the button to access the secret location” or “dodge over the pit as it closes” or a combination there of.
2: The secrets / puzzles: Some of them are exceptionally difficult. The worst requires 34 key strokes and 5 button presses in perfect order. I know how to do it but still can't get the sequence perfect even through I know what to do. These aren't puzzles, they are Quick Time Event in disguise and they suck. (This game dates from 2012, an era of terrible gameplay when people thought Quick Time Events were a good idea.)
3: Character Development: The character development is overly simplistic. You get a set of six skills depending on your class and basically pick one and pile all your points into it.
4: Spells: Extremely limited range of spells, you end up using the same 2 (3 if you count light) all game.
5: Hotkeys: There aren't any!

The above might sound a bit harsh as it focuses on the negatives. Overall a good game but personally I thought balance between puzzles and combat was a little too heavy on the puzzles and a little low on the combat. Definitely worth picking up if you like old school dungeon crawlers.

One of my favourite games. If you like hunting for secrets then this might be one of yours too. If you enjoy this then go check out the sequel. If you love the core gameplay but wish you only had to control one character then check out Vaporum.

These games are so cheap and offer many hours of playtime. That's not even including the workshop content which will extend it greatly.

A modern interpretation of the classic old-school dungeon crawlers. A good mix of exploration, RPG and combat mechanics. Enough to sink your teeth into and dive deeply for 30 or 40 hours, and doesn't drag on with sidequests or repetive gameplay.

This game is an old-school RPG in the style of Clouds/Darkside/World of Xeen in the Might and Magic series, with just enough modern touches (like automap and clearer graphics) to make it really enjoyable and playable. Not really about storytelling beyond the setup, it is a dungeon crawl, complete with secrets, traps, puzzles and deadly monsters. Great fun! One caveat, though, people that are fearful of spiders may find their close-up attacks somewhat disquieting. If you have played those classic DOS RPGs and are looking for something similar, look here.

Excellent dungeon crawling game. An inspired hommage to the first and unchalenged: Dungeon Master. Thank you for this gem (even if i still prefer Dungeon Master lol, but it's a close one)

Once in a generation does a game come along that redefines a genre and changes the gaming world.

Legend of Grimrock.... is not that...

..however it is a really good modern reboot of a kind of RPG that once did.

This is one of the best games that I ever played, the system looks prety simple but you can do a lot of things with it, I am playing it for third time, now for get all the remaining achievements and discover all the secrets.

Is very fun and replayable.

The combat in this is extremely tedious, with a strong and unnecessary difficult spike early on into the game unless you play it on Easy difficulty. The puzzles are okay, but hardly challenging and definitely do not make up for how un-engaging the combat is.

Honestly sickest game I have played in along time. I bought this games a while ago but never actually played too much of it. After a few months I decided to delve into this gauntlet of monsters magic and traps I found myself excited for every new level. All in all I can't stop playing 10/10

If you want a Dungeon Crawler Game. This is it. One of the Top 5 in it's class.

The only true flaw anyone can say about this game is no voice acting scenes, other than the death screams (but honestly this is not a flaw ;) ).

Everyone with a modern day computer should be able to run this game smoothly. It takes very little space as well.

This is money well spent.

This game is like the ''pcrpgs'' from the 90s (like Arena and Daggerfall). I couldn't get into it, ( i grew up with jrpgs and Skyrim) but if you're a kink for rpgs or maybe the early 2000's point and click games, puzzle games you will find this very enjoyable.

Excellent dungeon crawler that maintains the old-school vibes while still completely modernizing the graphics, UI, and other features one might have expected in 2012 when this was released. In 2021, it still holds up quite well and was fun to play. While the graphics aren't flashy, they hold up really well. Controls are simple and make sense for the genre of game.

There are plenty of included maps and challenges to keep you busy for many, many hours. I think I maybe completed 50% of them. One of the best perks is that you can both create custom maps/challenges as well as play ones other players have built.

All-in-all, this game is an excellent deal when on sale. I wouldn't pay $15 for it though. I think that is over priced at this point given its age and that there are newer options available (not to mention Legend of Grimrock 2). I'd say a price of around $5 is pretty solid. Anything less is a great.

Legend of Grimrock is one of the best old school grid-based dungeon crawler RPGs ever! There is only one game that is better.... Legend of Grimrock II.

Exploration in this game is a lot of fun. There are a lot of puzzles, traps, secrets, hidden loot and challenging enemies. The game has nice sounds and beautiful graphics. It gives an eerie sort of atmosphere that fits the overall tone of the game very well.

I always felt nervous when I could hear the clinking of armor or footsteps nearby. Do I run into a trap or is there a hidden door? Or am I just paranoid and the enemy is farther away that I thought? Nope, he is behind me!

Don’t get cornered by enemies and always know you surroundings. Most of the time you can kite around enemies and kill them without getting hit.

There is a good amount of different classes and skills and creating a party of four people allows for variety of gamestyles. I had a lot of fun playing with a group of four mages!

For a more challenging experience you can disable the auto-mapping feature and draw the map manually instead. I would definitely recommend playing it this way at least once.

Great Dungeon Crawler. The grid-based movement was a negative aspect for me at first because I wasn't expecting it, but I'll for sure pick this one up again. I'm sure this is a big hit with the old school crowd.

Too much grid dancing and some of the puzzles are just frustrating to the point of halting gameplay for too long. One or two puzzles are okay, but puzzle after puzzle after puzzle is freaking annoying and slows the pacing to a snail's pace.

Grid dancing and constant puzzles ruin this game for me. After reinstalling for the third time to give it another chance, I find the game extremely unenjoyable. This will be the final time I uninstall this game. Some might compare this to Eye of the Beholder, but NEVER was there grid dancing like in this game. It was real-time, yes, but grid dancing was few and far between. Also, the pacing was much better.

It's a real shame that this game isn't fun to me. It's a beautiful game. The graphics, lighting, shadows, models, sound, etc... are just top-notch. But, it doesn't matter how good the eye/ear-candy is if the game isn't fun.

Not played an old skool fantasy game for a while, so made a change from the usual smash em ups.

Once you get the hang of the combat - move left to avoid attack > turn and hit the thing > repeat... then the game becomes a lot more fun.

Exploring in a fantasy dungeon is always a cool thing to do.

Got stuck on a couple of puzzles, so had to ask Mr Google, but it's not overly difficult.

It's not a short game either, as you can see by the 27hrs I put into it.

Recommended to all.

The game is an exciting retrostyle game. Though I have to admit due to me being quite a wussy, I get nightmares from those spider attacks.

Quite annoying is that, when you hibernate your computer and return later on, while the game was running,
there will be only a black screen with a white arrow cursor. And there is no chance to return to the game nor quit or access any of my other applications including Task Manager or Command Line. The only way to resolve this issue is to restart my computer.

Have never played this kind of game before so can't tell how it compares to old school 3D dungeon crawlers, all I know is that I enjoyed pretty much every bit of it. Combat is fun and puzzles are often clever and challenging. There might have been couple times where i had to search for some solutions but it was mostly due to misunderstanding from my end. There are loads of secrets, traps and different items throughout the game.

You can tell Almost Human Games were very passionate about this project.

Time for Legend of Grimrock 2 now.

well designed lvls with challenging puzzles but not too challenging I had to pull up a guide to get past a puzzle here and there. overall very fun and unique, there are few dungeon crawlers out there with this gameplay style where you have a party of 4 and you all move as a single unit and attack in real time.

i only wish there were more bosses, the only boss you fight is at the end of the game but it is a fun boss fight.

TL;DR A great game with fantastic atmosphere

Pros:

- Atmosphere: I cannot reiterate how much fun I had with this games atmosphere. It's atmosphere oozes pulpy fantasy and everything from the ambient sounds to creature design adds to the games sword and board feel.
- Music: The music in this game is fantastic and really captures the pulp fantasy feel the game is going for.
-Combat: Combat is perhaps a tad bit too slow for my liking but still very fun and the class system also feels very intuitive.

Neutral:

- Length: I personally felt the game was of a decent length. It took me around 10 hours to complete a play through which I personally find fine but your mileage may vary. There is a decent amount of replayability (especially with the games class system) and the game comes with a level editor which from what I've seen has led to some very well put together levels being available on the workshop.
- Puzzling: If you do not like puzzles you will not enjoy this game. Some of these puzzles also involve backtracking. I enjoyed them but can see how others might find them frustrating
- Story: A very minor flaw made up for by the excellent atmosphere of the game but still one worth noting is that the story for this game is far from great. By the end of my first playthrough I had a fairly decent idea of what was going on but the story overall is very bland. Your mileage may vary.

Conclusion:

An excellent dungeon crawler. Fun atmosphere and engaging combat. Worth playing and a decent place to start for those new to the genre.

An amazing game, a reminder of my days playing Eye Of The Beholder on Amiga nearly 30 years ago. This is a great dungeon crawler with a varied bestiary and lots of secret areas, spells, weapons etc for your party of 4 characters to explore. Without doubt it's a tough game but there are locations on most levels where you are able to replenish health and energy and resurrect fallen characters. There is some backtracking through the game mainly due to food supplies and finding treasures or secrets but on the whole it's hugely enjoyable and the dungeon crawling experience is rejuvenated thanks to this gem.

Great opening theme, well made dungeons, good use of secret areas and puzzles. Though not much location variety works well as a game of exploration and a throw back to the style of older games where dungeons were full of traps, puzzles, and hidden places rather than just something to run through while killing enough to be at the right experience level.

Enemy AI is easy to exploit, proper movement prevents hits almost entirely. Limited number of skill points means you should only increase one skill per character since they cap at 50 and you will probably only get around 60 or less by the end, skills can give useless abilities like bonus energy to ranged characters who don't actually use energy. Spells can take too long to set up to cast. Movement commands queue which will likely cause you to run into traps or fall into pits even though you have let go of the button. Food is kind of pointless as you are given little reason to run out.

This game is really really fantastic. it may or may not be your cup of tea but i thoroughly enjoyed it. Very good atmosphere, simple controls, puzzles that make you think. i especially enjoyed the ending. Excellent game and i look forward to playing the sequel.

This is a game that you've seen before, you may even already own it but perhaps have yet to play it?
Well, if you're in to first person dungeon crawlers, you can't go wrong with Legend of Grimrock. This is also a fantastic game to introduce you to the genre; being focused on one properly detailed and realised dungeon - Mount Grimrock itself.

Create 4 characters, choose between fighter, rogue and mage classes and give them some appropriate skills - then see how far you can make it. The game felt very fair to me in it's tricks and traps, riddles and encounters and as a first-timer to this genre myself, I had an excellent time with it. As a bonus, it has the best wall textures I've seen in a game that forces you to look at them for secrets constantly.
Do watch out for some 8-legged enemies though, if you're too focused on those walls... They'll spook ya.

My introduction to grid-based dungeon crawlers and 'square-dancing'. I've played it twice through now (allowing several years in between to forget the puzzle solutions) and only Grimrock 2 has surpasted it for me.

Cons

- Real-time; I don't understand this design. This leads to a reaction-based game of agility instead of a tactical game. There is no time to make a proper analysis of the situation when multiple enemies jump on you because you need to keep dodging and moving while attacking at the same time.
- The first two hours of the game is the same as the next 10 hours that follow. Barely any variety.
- Skill tree is extremely basic. Your +1 attack/defense type of stuff.
- Tiny item pool and some of the necessary weaponry are to be found in secret locations.
- No hotkeys for attack. If you want to attack you need to click on the picture of the character, it results in pressure when you combine this with the real-time argument above.
- Magic attacks will trigger after pressing a certain combination of symbols on your UI keypad. This is impossible when being attacked in real-time by enemies.
- So far I have seen only two tile sets.

Audiovisually it's a good recreation of the older dungeon crawlers, the gameplay however is very basic, frustrating and strays away from a tactical experience due to the above combination of cons with the game being real-time as major con.

Didn't care for it.
The puzzles were not fun, lots of back-tracking to solve.
Combat is wonky, think it would have been better turn based, but you can kind of kite things around and take no damage making it trivial
Animations are very basic
Annoying micromanagement added in for no reason (torches, food), both of which are available in seemingly unlimited supply.
Limited races and classes (4 each).
Limited areas to put skill points

If you are looking for a game of this type it may be OK if you play with no map and on the highest difficulty without cheesing combat but it was just annoying to me.

LoG is a very good old school dungeon crawler, similar to classics like Eye of Beholder. All the mechanics are quite simple and easy to master. It is fun to explore all the levels and discover secrets and hidden treasures. Most of them are rewarding. But it would be better if there is a larger variety of switches and ways to discover hidden areas. Maybe breaking walls or illusion walls.

A deceptively tricky traditional role playing game in the spirit of Eye Of The Beholder and other old yet wonderful party-based turn-based RPGs.

I must admit it took me a while to really start playing it - I've installed and uninstalled it several times before really giving it a proper go and I'm very pleased I finally did.

This game has really harnessed what made those old RPGs so good - superb game mechanics - you can opt for keyboard and mouse or purely mouse-based play. The graphics are fantastic and lend well to the atmosphere of the game. Generally the sound is also very good.

If you're a fan of the old Dungeons & Dragons video games from the late 80s / early 90s then this game is a must - very much a re-imagining of a once lost era.

Old-school RPG from way back. Took me back to the 1990s when this would have been a great game.
Enjoyable in its own way, but I had problems with it.

Secret doors are a large part of the game, so you spend most of the game looking at brickwork. One puzzle required putting specific scrolls in their place, but i had dropped them after reading and couldn't remember where.

I'm giving this game a thumbs up because I liked it just enough to finish it... But it was a close call. LoG is really a mixed bag.

Pros:
+ Very atmospheric, probably triggers nostalgia for a lot of people, including me. In my case it brought me back to Eye of the Beholder for GBA.
+ Level design is pretty good. You'll get turned around sometimes, but generally the maps are easy to memorize and there isn't too much backtracking... aside from some instances I'll mention later.
+ If you like puzzles, obviously this game will appeal to you. And the game rewards you in several ways for solving puzzles, which makes you feel proud of the accomplishment.

Cons:
- Combat is tedious. Enemies usually have one attack animation and one sound they make which you will get SICK of hearing after the 100th time. Attacking is repetitive and spammy... You win fights by rapidly clicking on your attacks as soon as they cool down. The game heavily rewards cheesy tactics like kiting.
- Some of the puzzles in the game are a lot of fun, but probably the majority of them are frustrating and illogical. There are a few puzzles which require items to complete, but you are never given any hints that an item you find is actually important. If you don't pick up the right things, you can be backtracking several levels searching for a random piece of garbage you discarded. You have a limited amount of inventory space and you can be burdened if you're carrying too much weight, so I didn't know I was supposed to be saving this junk. There are so many junk items in the game that you'll never know which ones are important without looking at a guide, and it really wouldn't be possible to carry all of them.
- Throughout most the game the enemies aren't a serious threat, but rather an annoyance because of how many are all clustered around in the same areas. Mostly they get in your way while you're trying to solve puzzles. There is a massive difficulty spike toward the end of the game that makes it almost impossible to get through. It's really disappointing when you struggle through a game only to reach a point that's so insanely hard that it almost makes you stop caring.

In short, this is a frustrating, sometimes tedious game that rewarded me only just enough to make me want to continue. I'd really only recommend this game to veterans of the puzzle genre.

Legend of Grimrock is a great dungeocrawler RPG, cant recommend it enough
Some of the puzzles and gauntlets re tedious since they are based on tial and error but those are rare, almost all of them are fair and really well tought out
The dungeon design can get really confusing if you are playing without a map in oldschool mode since all the walls tend to be the same (which is actually a positive since secrets tend to stick out) but overall the maps are also really well designed
Dungeoneering as in maping out all areas and finding secrets is the main point in my opinion, but that doesnt mean that the combat isnt fleshed out; If anything i wish that i knew from the beginning how strafing can be so usefull, using the corridos for your advantage
Spears can attack from behind, so if you have a mage with no mana left this is how you can still make use of them
All classes are great, even tho iv seen players use 4 mage build as the meta, having any combination will work out since all have equally great and usefull gear (most of which isnt class/skill restricted)
Rogues can attack with melee weapons from the second row and can specialise in throwing and missile weapons, Mages cast all king of defensive and offensive spells and the warrior should make up your frontlie and pack mules
Collect and dont waste food and torches, since you will need them later. There are no shops in this game, no sleezy merchants etc so just drop (or place it somewhere nice for other adventurers after you) everything that you dont need
Enchanted weapons are still usefull after you use up their bound spell since their attacks also have elemental damage
there is a BULLSHIT secret you need to do on level 6 that leads to level 11 to get a specific shield for a armour set/archievement, which i absolutely HATE knowing that i reached level 11 and now have to waste an hour backtracking
Its impossible to find all secrets without a guide, trust me, the most obvious ones are the ones you need, dont waste your time for 2 herbs and a dagger
Oh and you can rest with R and heal yourself/cure poison and diseases, just watchout that nobody sneaks up on you

The only downside is that the game sometimes moves you more tiles than your imput, leading to some puzzles being really frustrating and a lot of pitfalls

Overall a 10/10 game, extemely fun, made my quarantine time a lot more enjoyable. <3

Excellent game about party-building, deciding how your characters will grow, solving puzzles, dodging traps and strafing enemies. The replay value is Excellent, since you can have many different builds even with the same classes.
Absolutely worth getting.
Just a tip: Try it on easy first. The game gives leeway, but once you run out of it, it is absolutely unforgiving.

Old school and brutal. Lots of puzzles, secret passages, and creatures to keep you on your toes. If your a fan of Eye of the Beholder and such you should like this. In my four or so hours of play haven't gotten very far. Started over a few times to optimize my team...still trying to fine tune that. Definitely worth the money especially on sale. This brings back memories of my time spent playing the Might & Magic role-playing games from The 3DO Company. Hundreds of hours spent getting lost in dungeons. Legend of Grimrock brings back that old feeling I had as a child. That sense of wonder while exploring and never knowing what's going to be around the next corner or what secrets you may accidentally stumble upon. Searching for hidden treasure is my favorite thing to do in games, and this game has more than enough variation in puzzles to keep your mind occupied. I think it's a fair assessment to say that Legend of Grimrock succeeded in creating a fantastic old-school first-person grid-based dungeon crawler. 10/10 worth replaying.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED 8/10 (Nostalgic, Immersive, Fun)

About 30 years ago, when Dungeon Master first came out on the Apple II, I remembered spending many sleepless nights exploring the dungeons. There was just so much to do, and I would keep exploring the same dungeons with a different party of 4 heroes.

The legend of Grimrock brings back that wonderful feeling of nostalgia for me, except the graphics and sound effects are so much better than that of yesteryear. It brings back that heart pounding feeling as I assemble my team of Ratlings, Minotaurs, Lizardmen, Insectoids and Humans and go deep down into the dungeons. In my old age, I am still spending that many sleepless nights adventuring.

So, if you are a senior like me who longs for that exciting fun filled dungeon, I would recommend Grimrock 1 & 2 to you. I am having a blast of a time.
