  • Designe deine eigenen Einheiten: Aus verschiedenen Einzelteilen konstruieren deine Ingenieure mächtiges Militär-Equipment

I've played tons of turn-based strategy games. Many were really uncreative and focusing on aspects that they thought would sell good.
Pandora is different. It's setting is extremely niche and might not suit many.
The thing that makes the game outstanding is its brilliant game design in the details.
It's those little things where other games have failed with arbitrary and no-brainer-solutions, where in Pandora I think: Wow, that's a super-elegant solution to an issue all 4x-strategy games have.

Take production for instance. Most games require you to have production-friendly surroundings to a city or planet in order for it to have good production. But here there is a shared-ressource-system. It doesn't matter where you mine your minerals. You can spend them anywhere. Same goes for food.

After some playing I realized severe weaknesses with the AI. But the game is very modder-friendly and allowed me to sort most of that out all by myself thus adding some more shape to the raw gem this game represents.

I think it's definately worth a recommendation.

This game should have gotten a down vote because of dogpiling AI, but AIL has a patch that fixes the AI issue. Unfortunately, that patch couldn't make it into the official game. Otherwise, this game actually has the most competitive AI you can ever have in any 4X game. Recommended with AIL patch, not recommended without it. You need the complete game (DLC) to be able to use the patch though.

Pandora: First Contact is a fantastic game. It is like CivV except:
Resources are shared between settlements,
Tech tree is random,
The AI is RUTHLESS.

Sufficiently different, and likewise compelling.

I can't recommend this game at full price. The graphics and UI are super, but the AI breaks the game. Did the Devs even play the game? No matter how friendly the neighbors are, they will war with you at the drop of a hat. non-aggression pacts are fake. The human player (you) will spend 100% your production and research effort towards a war goal, regardless of which winning options you chose. The graphics are pretty though, so the game makes a nice, but expensive screensaver.

I've played many many 4x games you are more than welcome to check my library game list I play more strategy games than I do anything else. With that said this is one of the most boring and slowest 4x games I own! Combat blows and so does everything else, it's first 50 turns is the slowest I have ever encountered. Terrible balance combat wise, even after research it sucks just a very very rough game in just about every aspect of it. If you new to 4x games don't start here, try something better. I could name a few or just check my library for any 4x game over 50 hrs i got some that is close to 200 hrs in this one sucks so bad i wont make 6 hrs I'm tossing this one in my junk bin after I submit this review lol. I think this game could have been a great game if the developers would have actually played a 4x game before they designed and or planned it, because I don't think they have ever played one lol. It's such a rough game I don't even know how to put it into words other than don't waste your time or money on it.

I highly recommend this game, mainly because of the AI. The AI is actually stellar, far beyond the reach of its endlessly mediocre competition (puns intended). I think that most veteran 4x gamers would struggle initially against the AI with no bonuses. (I am not just talking about the first game or two where you learn the basics.) Many people complain about the AI, though. Some complaints are valid but most are not: AI’s erratic diplomacy does not mean that AI is incompetent and AI’s economic/military efficiency is not evidence of cheating. Kudos to Ail for great work on programming the AI!

In short, it is rather simple game compared to the big titles but much more enjoyable due to solid tactical/strategical AI provided that you are not put off by the simplistic cut-throat diplomacy.

Good idea, terrible implementation. Ai is schizophrenic at best, offering tribute one round, demanding it the next, there is no balance in anything. Tech tree is bad. The thing about indigenous aliens suddenly becoming aggresive without a way to avoid it, makes the whole gaia focus obsolete and honestly kind of stupid. Really not recommended at any price. Came back after months to see if anything is fixed. Nothing, game is abandoned as is.

Pros: Good Alpha Centauri reskin. Very polished - nice graphics, menus, music, with same Alpha Centauri atmosphere. Adds some extra functions to Alpha Centauri.

Cons: Game is quite linear. Tech tree feels small despite random starting techs. Diplomacy is fairly shallow and random. Speed of game is super slow on the average setting, but super fast on the quick setting (50% faster), I'd like to see a mode that is 25% faster than normal setting.

This game has huge modding potential. I'd like to see mods that make the planet feel more 'real' (eg no mushrooms in snow, new planet types), as well as more varied units that can use the upgrades in different ways.

If you're used to Civ Beyond Earth, AoW Planetfall, and Master of Orion this game might feel dated. But if you are new to 4x strategy you will enjoy it.

The fact that the game was not to my particular tastes does not say that it is a bad game. I didn't enjoy it, and, I'm not really sure why. It just wasn't for me. I would however recommend it to others to at least try. It felt like a good game. I enjoyed the mechanics of the game and the rather interesting struggle with the wildlife as well as having to build your faction up.

Really demented AI ruins this game, the instance you go outside of a very narrow range of parameters, the AI attacks instantly and throws away all agreements.
And these parameters are such that just losing one unit can throw you into a war with a neighbour with nonaggression pact.
So there are good stuff in this game, like the science tree etc but it don#t matter because you will spend all the time try to balance between the various narrow limits and then fail and have the whole insta DOW you.
The 4X is not really appropiate, it is a wargame with some 4X aspects. Diplomacy is quite useless, as there is no persistance to anything.

The AI is crazy. if you really really want and NEED to play this game (what I thought I did) I dont see a diff playstyle as go full military right at the start. I mean Ghandi in the CIV game military because you get attacked by all the AI at once at the beginning of the gamke for no reason.

I like this game, but I really suck at it. It's like an almost impossible Civilization: Beyond Earth, and I believe it came out before that game. Looks similar, plays similar, but is brutal as all-Hell. Have tried turtling ... got wasted. Have tried being aggressive ... got wasted. Even had an island to myself to zip up the Tech Tree ... still got wasted. Hard core for sure. Keep going back to it, however. So I finally got a bit better at it, and STILL got my ass whooped. Some kind of Scientific Victory, even though I know I am the big dog in the game currently! Great game.

I love this game, and I will keep returning to it, but in all honesty, I cannot say that I recommend this game, as I see its flaws. The AI is simply nonexistent and will declare war upon you, just to offer you peace, science, and trade treaty the very next one. This makes diplomacy coming down to war/peace options, nothing more. And AI will always attack. It doesn't matter that you're stronger or more advanced in science (or both) - AI will try to flood you with tons of his units from the beginning to the end. Factions, while quite diverse, are dimmed by the fact that the war rules this game. If your faction is not well equipped to wage long-lasting war, then it's useless against the AI.

Unfortunately this game did not learn the lessons of Civilization 5. There is no one unit per tile rule; huge stacks march across the landscape. Combat is an all-or-nothing affair like in older Civ games where one unit always dies. The tech tree makes tech rushing the order of the day and it's made all the easier by the way the tree is set up where most techs only have one prerequisite.

The thing that made me decide to refund was the Orbital Bombardment mechanic. Get used to all of your units being injured all of the time during wars, and I hope you like manually targeting multiple global abilities every turn.

The game isn't bad, really. It's just based on an older strategy game model, and that model is outdated for a reason. If this had come out ten years before it did it would be one of the greatest strategy games of its era. Instead, it's just a dated rehash of Alpha Centauri, and honestly Alpha Centauri did most things it does better.

I only got this, because I miss Alpha Centauri. I only keep this, because Beyond Earth was absurd, in my opinion, for a casual player.
As a clean, untampered with game, it will crash unexpectedly, during every single playthrough. Loading the latest save for a playthrough that has crashed causes a crash.

This is a game I want to like. I really loved Civilization: Beyond Earth, and this was almost intuitive to play after playing Civ: BE (and then you find out Pandora came first). Sadly, this game only makes me want to play Civ: BE more. The diplomacy is stupid, literally random. Its hard to keep track of who is who and seeing as war changes every few turns, its very frustrating.

There was things in other reviews of some developer fixing certain things, one being diplomacy. I have no idea how that is going. If that was fixed, I'd say this game is fine. Until then, I'd say to avoid it, even if it was cheap. Its not playable. Maybe vs 1 opponent in a state of constant war it would be ok, but this I haven't tested.

This is an abandoned game, and the AI is beyond broken. There are no penalities when it breaks a non-aggression pact, and the AI is also somehow always ahead of you in tech. You can be on the friendliest terms with the AI, but that doesnt seem to matter, as it will magically always know your troop count (even without vision) and will break every agreement you have with them. The other AI will then dogpile, and also declare war. Even if you have a strong standing army. Even if you were friendly. This would be a great game, but i cant recommend such a lousy and frustrating AI.
I want to like this game, but every game seems to be such a lousy diceroll in the beginning, and you are guranteed to be the aliens focus for the next 100 turns. I like the narration, and the soundtrack and visuals are decent, but this is a strategy game, where AI actually matters. I give it it a 5/10. Only get this game if it is 90% on sale. Dont waste your time on a broken game like i did.

Have a huge number of hours on the non-steam version, got it again for my library here. Quite a good Civilization style game with emphasis on the sci-fi bit. The best part of the game is customizing your unit designs with newly researched technology and adding new buildings to your cities. Medicore Recommended 7/10, with the DLC which adds some stuff. catch it on sale. Not as diverse as Alpha Centauri nor even Beyond Earth but not a bad game either. I had/have no bugs/crashes (so far) and I've never played it without the DLC so cannot judge the base game alone.
