Port Royale 3 ist ein tolles Spiel und in seinem Genre sogar fast gut. Wenn man ausblendet, dass das Wirtschaftssystem viel zu einfach ist und man sich jeglichen kämpferischen Fortschritt total einfach ergrinden kann, dann handelt es sich hierbei um eine wirklich nette Karibik-Piratereisimulation.

Die Optimierung auf aktueller Hardware ist aber leider nicht gegeben. Unter Windows 10 stürzt das Spiel leider gerne mal ab oder lässt sich nicht mehr öffnen, wenn man rausgetabt ist.

Alles in allem kann ich das Spiel also leider nicht mehr empfehlen. Wer es noch nicht kennt, hat hier nicht wahnsinnig viel verpasst. Wer es aus Nostalgiegründen mal wieder anspielen möchte sollte sich auf einige Bugs und Instabilitäten einstellen.

Ich mag das Spiel in seiner Gesamtheit, aber ich mag den Umstand nicht, dass die nationale Zugehörigkeit der Städte so was von überhaupt nicht den historischen Gegebenheiten entspricht. Man kann aus 4 Einstiegsdaten zwischen dem späten 16. und dem frühen 17. Jahrhundert wählen, wann die eigene Karriere beginnen soll. Es ist im Grunde so, dass jedes Einstiegsdatum eine bestimmte Nation (England, Holland, Spanien und Frankreich) begünstigt. So verfügt zum Beispiel Spanien am frühesten Einstiegsdatum über die meisten Städte auf der Weltkarte, also der Karibik. Das ist ja noch OK, aber an anderer Stelle haben die Holländer die zahlenmäßige Oberhand - faszinierend!
Ich schätze, dass auf diese Weise eine gewisse Tournament-Möglichkeit gewährleistet wird, doch leider schadet das der ansonsten realistischen Atmosphäre.

Abgesehen davon ist PR3 ein sehr gutes Spiel. Besonders positiv hervorheben möchte ich die Tatsache, dass Seeschlachten hier noch in Echtzeit ablaufen, während in PR4 auf Rundenbasiert umgeschaltet wurde.

Im Angesicht des Port Royale 4 Releases wird dieses Spiel immer besser.
Echtzeitkämpfe, Multiplayer, gutes Balancing und eine tiefe Wirtschaftssimulation lassen den Nachfolger alt aussehen.

Ich kann den 3ten Teil jedem empfehlen :3 besser als Port Royal 4(ich stehe nicht so auf rundenbasierte Kämpfe).

DasSpiel ist nicht gerade leicht und man muss sich extrem reinfucksen, doch wenn man erstmalv herrausgefunden hat wie der Hase läuft macht es acuh sehr viel spaß... nun gut solange man die 5 Piraten in schach halten kann und nciht ständig ausgeraubt wird :O

Nach 30 Stunden Spielzeit habe ich nun die 4. der 8 Kampagnen fertig gemacht und damit auch schon genug von dem Spiel gesehen. Um es kurz zu machen: Port Royale 2 war einfach in (fast) allem was es getan hat besser als sein Nachfolger.

PR3 ist einfach nur eine „dumbed down“ Version von PR2. Bei den meisten Seeschlachten ist nun Auto-Pilot angesagt, einfach weil dieser so unheimlich gut funktioniert. Man könnte nun einwerfen, dass man ihn ja nicht benutzen muss und ja selbst kämpfen kann. Aber bei dem Kampfsystem? Nein, danke.

Will man sich nämlich doch einmal einmischen (weil man zum Beispiel Schiffe kapern will – die werden vom Autopiloten einfach nur versenkt) so fällt auf, dass das meiste noch immer in der Hand des Computers liegt. Es treten hier nämlich alle 3 (ja, es gibt nur mehr 3 und nicht 5) Geleitschiffe gleichzeitig an. Man selbst steuert davon allerdings nur eines und kann nur extrem rudimentäre Befehle an seine beiden anderen Schiffe geben. Mir ist schon klar, dass man in der Praxis eh nur eines genauer steuern kann, aber eine Stopp-Funktion und genauere Befehle wären schon sehr nett gewesen.

Und so passiert es halt, dass man, wenn man später im Spiel schon genug Schiffe hat, einfach mit dem Autopiloten über alles wegradiert. Hat man in PR2 mit einem voll ausgerüsteten Kampfkonvoi (z.B: 5 Kriegs-Galleonen) noch maximal 2, mit extrem viel Glück vielleicht 3 Militärkonvois ausschalten können, so sind es hier locker 20. Wobei es noch weit mehr sein können, denn man kann nun bis zu 50(!) Schiffe in einen Konvoi aufnehmen.

Auch Konvois, die nicht die eigenen sind, kann man nicht mehr auswählen um zu sehen wie viel sie geladen haben und aus welchen Schiffen sie bestehen. Man bekommt nur eine einzelne Zahl, die „Kampfkraft“ die aber mindestens bei der Hälfte aller Kämpfe willkürlich nach oben oder unten springt. Nicht dass es im späteren Verlauf etwas ausmacht da siehe oben.

Angriffe auf Städte sind auch viel einfacher. Es kann einem halt egal sein ob in einer Stadt ein einzelner oder 10 Militärkonvois stehen. Und das bisschen Taktik, dass man bei PR2 noch gebraucht hat, wurde einem hier auch genommen: Man kann seine Landgruppen überhaupt gar nicht mehr kontrollieren.

Also um es kurz zu machen: Jeder Aspekt des Kampfystems ist zu reinem Stat-Vergleich verkommen. Man muss also nur seine Schifflein in halbwegs taugliche Konvois zusammenfassen und man ist quasi unaufhaltbar. Und selbst da haben es die Entwickler geschafft schlechter als der Vorgänger zu sein. Denn sie haben die unheimlich intuitive Steuerung des 2. Teils einfach… verkompliziert. Warum? Warum die Umwege um den Hafenmeister? Das sind jeweils 4 Klicks mehr, was sich sehr schnell anhäuft wenn man 10 Konvois umstrukturieren will und ist einfach nur extrem nervig.

Ich muss ja gestehen, ich war in PR2 ja meistens ein Freibeuter, einfach weil es mir mehr zugesagt hat. Aber da hier das Kampfsystem mMn einfach nur kompletter Müll ist, habe ich mich am Handeln versucht. Und das ist… besser. Und mit „besser“ meine ich, besser als das Kampfsystem, aber keinesfalls besser als das Handeln in PR2.
Dabei ist es im Großen und Ganzen sogar das gleiche, nur dass es auf der einen Seite erneut verdummt wurde und ebenfalls einige Quality of Life Features weggelassen wurden die im vorigen Teil noch da waren: Man hat z.B: keinen Massen-„Verschiebe alles“-Button mehr und man muss sich auch nicht mehr um Dinge wie das Gewicht von Kanonen kümmern. Der Fairness halber muss ich aber schon sagen, dass es ein ganz großes, neues QoL-Feature gibt: Die vorgefertigten Optionen für Handelsrouten sind nun VIEL besser als im Vorgänger, was sehr gut für faule Leute (wie mich) ist. Im Endeffekt wird man sich aber eh erst wieder manuelle Handelsrouten erstellen, wenn man das meiste aus ihnen herausholen will, und da ist PR3 meiner Meinung nach wieder unnötig komplizierter als der 2. Teil.

Sogar Matrosen und Siedler sind nun auf einmal dasselbe und es gibt sie quasi nur noch (sofern man nicht spezielle DLC-Gebäude aufstellt) in den Gouverneurs-Städten, dort aber in Hülle und Fülle. Was erneut ein dumbing down des Vorgängers darstellt, denn in PR3 muss man einfach nur zwei oder drei Städte anfahren und schon hat man eine volle Mannschaft / genug Siedler für eines jeden Stadtbauers Wünsche. Ressourcenmanagement: Fehlanzeige.

Das Handeln ist also schlechter als im Vorgänger, das Kämpfen sogar viel schlechter, die Hälfte der Achievements lassen sich auch nicht unlocken und selbst die Grafik ist bestenfalls gleich gut wie beim Vorgänger! Anstelle der wunderschön gezeichneten (wenn auch etwas verpixelten, aber das sei einem Spiel aus 2004 verziehen) 2D-Sprites aus PR2 sind 3D Modelle getreten, die zwar OK aussehen, von denen man im Jahre 2012 aber doch etwas mehr erwarten könnte. Der Detaillgrad der Grafik blieb im Großen und Ganzen gleich, jedoch sind die Ladezeiten weit länger als im Vorgänger.

Gibt es dann überhaupt irgendetwas das positiv ist? Ja: Eigene Städte! Man bekommt eigene Städte nun viel einfacher (man kann sie nun auch für sich selbst annektieren) und auch nicht mehr nur durch Krieg sondern auch durch Handel (in PR2 ging das theoretisch auch, aber nur durch extrem seltene Missionen von Gouverneuren bei denen die Städte auch wieder in den Besitz einer anderen Nation gelangt sind und nicht in den eigenen). Weiters gibt es nun einige Optionen zum Stadt-Management, bei denen ich mich immer gefragt hatte warum es sie in PR2 nicht gibt, allem voran das errichten einer großen Werft mit der Option eigene Schiffe zu bauen.

Übrigens ist der Piraten-Modus für 2 Stunden auch ganz witzig. Allerdings auf die selbe Weise wie Cookie-Clicker für 2 Stunden ganz witzig ist: Nachdem man ein paar Schiffe gekapert hat, wartet man einfach nur noch, bzw. überfällt ein paar Städte um den Prozess etwas zu beschleunigen.

So, das war's von meiner Seite zu Port Royale 3: Pirates & Merchants. Ich kann wegen den oben genannten Gründen leider absolut keine Kaufempfehlung für dieses Spiel aussprechen. Wer dennoch mit dem Konzept liebäugelt, dem möchte ich gerne Port Royale 2 ans Herz legen und fürs Lesen dieser, doch sehr lang gewordenen, Review danken!

Port Royale 3 ist momentan eine der besten Handelssimulationen im Handel. Zwar mit teils nur mittelmäßiger Technik überzeugt das Spiel mit seinen inneren Werten und der Detailgetreue, mit der das 17. Jahrhundert dargestellt wird. Ob Sie nun als Händler eher friedlich leben wollen oder als Pirat die Weltmeere unsicher machen, bleibt ebenfalls Ihnen überlassen.

Die Bedienung des Spiels geht dabei leicht von der Hand, die Möglichkeiten sind generell fast schon zu viele und die Komplexität wird Ihnen nach und nach bewusst und beigebracht. Wer sich richtig in ein Strategiespiel reinfuchsen will, der liegt bei „Port Royale 3“ auf jeden Fall richtig und sollte sich dieses Meisterwerk nicht entgehen lassen.

Wer Wirtschaftssimulationen mag, wird Port Royal 3 lieben. Ein komplexes Spiel mit vollkommener Freiheit und vielen Spielmöglichkeiten. Das Tutorial ist an sich gut gestaltet, führt einen jedoch keineswegs wirlklich in die Funktionen des Spiels ein. Hierfür muss man schon selbst ausprobieren und herausfinden wie alles genau funktioniert. Wer damit kein Problem hat, wird mit diesem Spiel viele Studen spielspaß haben!

Eh, kinda boring really. Some things aren't well explained, other things are tedius, there's a lot wrong with the game to really enjoy it much. It has a certain flare but it doesn't quite reach.

After playing Port Royale 2 for about 1000 hours as a kid I was very excited to play Port Royale 3. My brother actually bought me this game on disk way back when it came out in 2012 and I wasn't very impressed with the changes that had been made. Things as simple as the trading menu using sliders rather than buttons to buy and sell goods just didn't seem to be as satisfying to use compared to Port Royale 2. I also didn't like the changes to the combat system when attacking towns which just shows a cut scene of your ship landing on the beach and some troops landing in the distance. Something about the game had just lost its charm versus Port Royale 2. The UI was less intuitive (to me anyway) and seemed to be lacking the polish of the old games.

I have since given the game another chance and forced myself to enjoy about 15 hours of game play, which to be fair was actually quite fun. I liked that I didn't have to train my captains so that they could run trade routes (this did however make it very easy to run a huge amount of trade convoys and essentially break the game economy.) Town businesses could now actually be run efficiently and make money rather than a total loss like in Port Royale 2, which without all the options you have for trade convoys in Port Royale 3. and undoubtedly the graphics are very nice which is one place that the old games were lacking in even for their time.

Bottom Line, if you see this game up for sale. I would recommend grabbing it and giving it a try.

Not the best Port Royale, but still WAY better than the new version, PORT ROYALE 4...
If you wish to play a more modern version of Port Royale, but THIS, the 3.
Port Royale 4, unfortunately, was a rushed project finished during the pandemic period, and they are also not addressing the problems it have.
Again, BUY THIS, or an older version, forget about the 4...

Port Royal 3 adds new events and mechanics that ease the suffering endured while playing PR2 as a high ranking naval officer. Naval combat has been improved and being a pirate can prove to be much more fun than in PR2.

However: The UI is disgusting; art is horrible; trading is incredibly easy, and you can become a millionaire in the first months; there are typos and bad writting everywhere; the flags suck so damn much that I'm actually surprised the amazing job done with PR2; you can't change the hotkeys; the log and journals are messy.

To sum it up: Buy on sale and only if you want an idle economic pseudo-simulator. You want a better option? Go buy Port Royale 2

Running on Windows 10, PC - It's totally unacceptable that the loading screen comes up, the mouse pointer disappears and there is no way to select menu items or even exit the game - Whether there is a fix or not doesn't matter. This is a major issue that shouldn't happen. Even though I got it on sale, I still feel ripped-off.

Port Royale 3 is an epic story of European powers expansion to the Carribean Islands, the Southern U.S. States, Central America and the Northern town of South America. The game is entertaining and will continue to be a favorite in many years to come. Each town produces five commodities and trades 20 commodities in the market. The game offers almost everything a player wanted such as trading, town building, sea battle with pirates and trading ships of five other countries. After playing for 229 hours, I would say I like the game and would continue to play it in the future. The following will support what I said that I like the game:
1. Game play is open ended after finishing the campaign.
2. Gaining wealth by trade is rewarded by not only in rank but also prestige and popularity in towns which give the rights to build businesses, warehouses, residential houses, reduced prices and more.
3. Economy is dynamic and prices fluctuate as a result of supply and demand of commodities.
4. Trading of commodities can be made either on map icons or going inside the town and visit the market place. Trading can be automated for multiple convoys or be manually played for trading and engaging in sea battle and conquering pirate havens and other towns.
5. Building an empire to compete with the European powers is possible by acquiring your own town via grant or by use of force. Buying ships and creating convoys is unlimited.
6. Pirate hunting and doing battle manually is very dynamic which allow sinking of enemy ships and player's ships as well.
7. Music enhances the game in the background, sound effects is entertaining, and graphics is good.
8. More info support can be accessed by clicking on several icons provided in the interface.
9. Mini games and services are made available when you visit the town tavern, architect, governor's mansion, the shipyard, marketplace, the city hall, and your warehouse. This makes the game more than complete and fun in every aspect.
10. Lastly, you can find a wife in this game. Also, tasks are given especially to complete the map for treasure hunt, providing goods to towns, finding floating goods (floatsum) and shipwrecked person. This game gives out everything for your satisfaction. Since I cannot mention everything, I'm leaving things for you to find out. This game is a must buy for players who like adventure and riches that you can only dream about.

This would be a very nice game if there were not so many bugs both with the program and the game-play. The game often freezes when I go to play cards (Perhaps it is a message not to gamble). I then have to check the integrity of local files on STEAM which finds errors and uploads files as a result of the freeze. It just takes so much time after each crash. The game also crashes out of the program altogether, once in a while on starting naval battles. Nevertheless I did get to the end of the game and the adviser-blokie told me that I have fulfilled the conditions and am now able to go to viceroy and ask for Cayman. Only when I went there (Port Royal), the option was not available. I am guessing that the viceroy is not available and has been summoned back to Spain because of his very dodgy behaviour. We all knew the viceroy was unreliable and I hope he is severely punished for deserting me without giving me Cayman. Perhaps the viceroy was too friendly with the pirates. This is the second game I have ever had which did not finish because of an obvious bug and it is really disappointing to have played over 100 hours and not being able to finish it. Another bug is to do with extremely lazy pirates which never turn up. On more than one occasion, someone charged a huge amount of gold to tell me where the pirate lair is, which is then marked with a buoy. I go near there and wait, and wait and wait for almost an entire game, but the pirates don’t turn up. Only on two occasions (out of five or six) they bothered to do their job properly and turned up. Perhaps the pirates are preoccupied with playing “Port Royal 3” and like me they have got stuck and can’t progress. I would happily have given a thumbs-up to this game if it worked properly. It is also not the first game I’ve had from Kalypso, which has misbehaved. It is really disappointing to spend all that time and not be able to finish the game because of a bug. So I’m afraid, it is thumbs-down for Port Royal 3.

Cool game. I found it fun and challenging. Cruising around, trading, avoiding pirates for awhile, slowly building in strength. Very rewarding once you can start building up towns, amassing ships, and then wiping out those pesky pirates.

Well, the game is pretty fun and the economy model, graphics and gameplay are great.
The reason why I don't recommend it is the achievements. Them seems like be broken or something. Many years have passed, but th developers haven't repaired them.

The inability to play this with keyboard and mouse even with Gamepad set to 0 makes it unplayable to me. If you're going to require a controller, say so before people buy it.

one of the best games I've encountered The game takes place in the Caribbeans, during the European colonization in America. Therefore, you can choose to be either Spanish, English, French or Dutch, but you're not limited to trading just with your country's own colonies. If your into games that are a bit open ended and well thought out without having to be graphics heavy then this is for you. If you love the era of tall ship then this is for you.

This game is a lot of fun for a bit. However, once I had the hang of it, I feel like there was no opposition. Pirates aren't particularly challenging, and nations feel inconsequential. I attempted to increase the difficulty but again, I don't feel challenged and money and power instantly begets money and power, with no antagonist of consequence.

It's not Pirates! but it comes close. Somewhat grindy to advance but its relaxing at the same time and the trading and special missions are fun to optimize to squeeze out a few more dubloons for that next ship.

Normal economy system: buying in bulk gives you a discount.
This game's economy system: buying in bulk gives you a fine because the price goes up *before* you actually buy.
Yes, you can micro-manage the sliders to buy/sell just a pinch so that the price doesn't change much and grind your way to the top but I have neither time nor patience for that. Not my cup of tea, asked for refund.

I've played thousands of hours of PR2 over the years, got a wild hair and finally gave PR3 a go.

After looking around the map, checking out everything in town, I had no problem getting the hang of the UI, because it was the same as PR2 except all the various interactions were LESS. Slower. Clunkier. With less feature and character.

Compared to PR2 this has the personality of a cardboard box. It was like Tarintino made a sequel to Reservoir Dogs, and I go to see it only to find out he replaced Samuel L. Jackson with Al Gore.

The last straw was when I checked out the tavern, including trying my favorite feature in PR2, gambling.
I only have 2 hours on log, because I left it doing first time setup while I took a shower. Back to PR2, shame.

It cost me five bucks. I got five bucks worth of entertainment out of it. Thumbs up.

It's a business trading econ sort of game that is honestly just a grind for money to build things to make you more money. You will get a better gameplay experience out of Capitalism Lab, or the Anno series, or Transport Fever, or Cities Skylines etc etc etc. But aint none of those cost only five bucks and for whatever reason I keep coming back to play this janky mess. So give it a try and keep your expectations low.

[h1]Port Royale 3 is a terrible, slow grind that sees you spending your time in trading moving sliders back and forth ever so slightly so as not to affect the price too much, and getting very little reward for your precision. And since ship-to-ship fighting and treasure hunting are so hit or miss, you spend most of your time in Port Royale 3 trying to decide between being bored selling goods or being bored searching for something interesting to do. Multiplayer, though technically available, will likely serve as cold comfort, as it's all but impossible to find an opponent.

The saddest part of all this is that Port Royale 3 looks good and plays smoothly. It also, at least in theory, has a lot of facets: trading, ship-to-ship combat, ship-to-shore combat, two separate story campaigns, and multiplayer. But none of these offer anything that's much fun to do.

I loved Port Royale II and when Kalypso purchased the franchise to create Port Royale III, I was instantly hooked. Then I started playing the game, saw some bugs, including in the financial reporting. I was naive to think anything would come of reporting them with some suggested fixes.

They did absolutely nothing about it, except release an expansion to make more money. This company just churns out games to profit from them. When they're released, they move on to the next project. I just saw a pop-up for pre-ordering Port Royale 4 and was inspired by my crappy experience to write something about this game so that other people have more info before buying into a game that will probably never get fixed if it has any issues.

My experience with Kalypso left such a bad taste in my mouth, I steer clear of great franchises like Tropico, because I just felt so burned. Caveat emptor.

A nice economic simulation. The story is well done and similar to the one in Grand Ages: Medieval. It's a little simplified compared to Port Royale 1&2 but it runs fin on windows 10. It's a light game, not too difficult to master. It's enjoyable.

Funny and morbid thing: in battles, seamen fall into the sea. If you don't pick them up, they end up being eaten up by sharks!

FIRST THING FIRST .... get SID MEIER's PIRATES -older, less buggy, more fluid and more player friendly ... despite this still love the game for its trade and naval battle ideas
first - the manual battles are A BUGGY CHORE (a lot of swearing will be involved) and it a pirate - naval battle game it handicaps it, especially since getting ships from other nations can fill pockets. Automatic option DOESN'T capture ships
second - the trade aspect is ok...but i feel like the game is lacking although I LOVE THE IDEA and this is why I stick to it, despite the frustrating experience, weird campaign modes (war/economy), the weird limitations based on rank/pricing for the in game items (captain upgrades, ship crew)
third the atmosphere created seem a bit hand held, with options that are put there as filler and feel half baked (gambler, colonists, upgrading your town)

If your into games that are a bit open ended and well thought out without having to be graphics heavy then this is for you. If you love the era of tall ship then this is for you. If you want lots of action then this isnt for you. :-) I love it though.

I read a lot of reviews and I feel opinions were overly critical. For us strategy and sim management lovers, this game fits right in there with old classics (Sim City, Sid Meiers Pirates, Industry Giant, etc...), and other forgotten PC games that never got the spotlight. This game never got the spotlight, due to negativity, or I would of heard it a long time ago. And it's a shame... I wish I had...

Kalypso as always just bought a game with high potential and killed it. Just as they did with the whole Tropico series. Tropico 3 was good, but they just rename it after it. So now you can play tropico 3 under tropico 5 label.

Its the same game as it was in Patrician 4 but simplified more than patrician 4 (in comparison with Patrician 3). Auto trade even more simplified. I am not talking that even an interface is the same. There is no interesting new features, just a copy of Patrician 4 which is copy of Patrician 3.

So Kalypso bought a series and killed it again. The didnt even try to make a good game. Just took the same engine as it was for P4 and added a new map.

Multiplayer doesnt work....at all. I bought it mainly to play with friends, unfortunately. I checked the web for sollution, but there is any available. We can see each others in the game, but the connecting is taking its time.
