In seiner Gesamtheit wunderbar unterhaltsam, motivierend, irre witzig – und vielleicht auch ein wenig hektisch

Ich habe Rayman Origins nach langer Zeit mal wieder gespielt, es hat Spaß gemacht wie eh und je, und ich frage mich, warum hier immer noch meine Review fehlte. Schnell mal nachgeholt!

Rayman ist in erster Linie eins: vollkommen abgedreht und zum Brüllen komisch. Ich kenne die Ursprünge nicht, allerdings deutet ja der Titel darauf hin, dass es dem sehr nahe kommt ;-)
Ich startete also (damals) als nicht-Kenner in die Materie, und was soll ich sagen… der Spaß zog mich sofort in seinen Bann. Obwohl ach so witzige Spiele mir manchmal zu blöd sind – aber Rayman und die ganze Präsentation ist einfach zu bekloppt! Nicht nur die Gegner und die Animationen wissen mich zum Lachen zu bringen, nein auch der Sound ist herrlich albern. Da trällern die Lums oder Electoons oder wer auch immer das sein soll sich mit ihren hohen Stimmchen was zusammen, dass es nur so eine Freude ist. Unter Wasser artet es dann eher in ein Gurgeln aus. An anderen Stellen gibt es mexikanische (Opern-)Gesänge (ayayay!) oder einen Wildwestsound. Das ist mega süß, lustig, thematisch passend und nicht zuletzt so melodisch, dass es einem glatt als Ohrwurm bleibt.

Man wird also von einer schrägen Situation in die nächste geschickt. Spielerische Höhepunkte sind natürlich die Bosse, bei denen man auf eine Beule warten muss. Hat man diese lediglich dreimal getroffen, verpufft all das Böse des Bosses und er schrumpft zu einem unschuldigen kleinen Wesen zusammen. Und wieder ist es einfach nur witzig. Dann gibt es noch Verfolgungsjagden, allen voran die Schatzlevels. Hier kommt es auf das richtige Timing an. Es sind sozusagen Autoscroll-Levels, die einem den korrekten Rhythmus von stark springen, zart springen, mit- und gegenlenken und schlagen abverlangen. Und fast habe ich die Shoot ‘em Up – Levels vergessen, in denen man natürlich auf einem Moskito reitet und die Fliegen(den Gegner) entweder abballert oder Dinge einfach einsaugt. Wie sollte es anders sein, alles ganz normal ;-)

Die Levelbewertung belohnt einen dann mit Extras. Im Level sammelt man Lums, die am Ende in Electoons ausgezahlt werden – welche wiederum bestimmte Level freischalten. Außerdem gibt es innerhalb der Levels geheime Bereiche, in denen man zusätzliche Electoons aus Käfigen befreit. Zu finden ist das alles nicht allzu schwer und auch genügend Lums für einen erfolgreichen Levelabschluss schafft man gut. Schwer wird es, wenn man Zeiten schlagen möchte oder die Goldmedaille will. Die Levels sind allerdings in ihrer Schwierigkeit schwankend, manchmal holte ich locker Gold, sogar ohne es gewollt zu haben, manchmal gelang mir mit Mühe kaum das Minimum (zumindest beim ersten Versuch).
Hat man sich als guter Electoonbefreier erwiesen, wartet am Ende noch das Land der wandelnden Seelen – ein ultimatives, mächtig schweres, sehr tödliches Autoscrollevel. Schafft man auch irgendwann, denn: Checkpunkte innerhalb der Levels sind immer fair gesetzt.

Ein paar Imperfektionen hat auch Rayman Origins:
Was mir grundsätzlich weniger gefällt, ist, dass man schon in den regulären Levels und ohne Extrachallenge zum schnellen Handeln gezwungen wird. Freigelegte, zu sammelnde Lums fliegen meist ein Stück nach rechts, steigen langsam aber stetig auf und verpuffen auch bald. Man muss also den Bereich, den man gerade noch erforschen möchte, verlassen und das Zeug hektisch einsammeln. Wenn man Pech hat, lockt es einen in einen Bereich, aus dem man dann nicht mehr dorthin zurück kann, wo man noch gar nicht fertig war. Ich spiele Platformer (generell Spiele) lieber in meinem Rhythmus. Mich haben z.B. auch Zeitlimits immer genervt (hier gibt es keine, außer bei der entsprechenden Challenge).
Ein zweites kleines Manko ist, dass das Timing in den Autoscrollevels sehr wenig verzeiht. Wo man vielleicht eine halbe Sekunde Toleranz hätte einbauen können, ist es gefühlt eine Zehntelsekunde. Entweder man schafft den Sprung nicht, oder man springt zu weit oder oder… ärgerlich ist hier auch, dass, wenn man an einer Kante hängenbleibt oder anderweitig die Luft raus ist, man zwar nicht sofort stirbt, aber man es eigentlich schon vergessen kann, weil man den Schwung nicht wieder aufbauen kann.

Ansonsten ist aber wie gesagt großes Vergnügen an der Tagesordnung. Deswegen geht mein Daumen steil nach oben.

Rayman Origins ist ein auf hohem Qualitätsniveau produzierter Platformer, den es so nicht alle Tage gibt.

An dieser Stelle empfehle ich im Anschluss direkt Rayman Legends, welcher seine Sache nochmal besser macht. Optisch nochmal schöner und mit den legendären Musiklevels.
Im Gegensatz zu Origins gibt’s Legends leider nur mit Uplay-Verknüpfung, also Vorsicht.
Origins & Legends sehe ich in meiner persönlichen Liste der besten Platformer aller Zeiten auf Platz 2 hinter der Donkey Kong Country - Reihe.

Es ist ein krankes Jump and Run und nicht ansatzweise zu vergleichen mit Mario oder so. Der Humor ist super, die Musik perfekt und Schwierigkeit ist ganz ok. Ich habe erst Rayman Legends gespielt, was ich such empfehlen kann, und das hat mir so gefallen, dass ich den Teil auch zocken musste. Obwohl Rayman Legends besser ist, sollte der Teil nicht in Vergessenheit geraten. Danke Ubisoft, ich bin raus.

I dare say this may be the perfect videogame.
The difficulty scaling is perfect, the levels, the controls, the music, the beautiful visuals.

It's really hard to think of anything negative to say about this game at all. Not even a gripe or nitpick.

Well, I used to play this with my friend on his playstation 3 nearly a decade ago, haha. It's an extremely fun and cute coop platformer, but it simply doesn't work on Windows 11 :-( It can't start a new save file at all, I even tried all the possible fixes and I'm not gettin' the prompt to link my Steam profile with my Uplay to launch it from there either, ugh damn it I guess I'm gonna refund it.

Great couch co-op platformer together with your girlfriend and two controllers. Even if one player can not achieve every jump (presumably your girlfriend, since you are the seasoned gamer), you can revive her after the obstacle and continue your journey together. We both had really fun with Rayman Origins and would recommend it to any couple who is looking for some co-op playtime. While getting thru the levels is quite easy, it will get pretty hard if you're a completionist — yes, I'm looking at you, running red crate!

Cannot stress how much I love Rayman, especially Origins. I remember the old times when I pirated the game and played it repeatedly...

I felt really bad so I actually bought it recently and played through it again... twice.
It's almost a decade old and yet still so so fun, and you don't even need friends to fully enjoy it (a huge benefit in this day and age)

The reason why I love this game a tad bit more than Legends is that it actually gets pretty difficult in the last parts of the game.

Seriously give this game a try if you haven't yet, it takes like 10 hours to playthrough and if you have friends to play it with... well... good for you because you'll have an even better time.

Incredible Game!

I'm honestly surprised that more people don't have this game, it's an amazing game with beautiful graphics, a great soundtrack I actually went out of my way to listen to more and of course fun and chill gameplay. This deserves more recognition in my opinion. Short and sweet review but this game is really good.

Even better grab it on sale for £2.

My daughter (aged 7) loves playing this with her Daddy because levels can be completed with a base level of skill. However, the game would also be a challenge to older and more experienced players who want to achieve higher scores and advance more quickly.

Rayman Origins is definitely one of the top quality 2D platformers to this day still.

The way the level carries you through the motions of it's movement is a joy all the way through and it never becomes a chore to play it, the aesthetic of the levels is incredible and everything feels so hand crafted. Not just visually but mechanically as well, since every aspect of the game works in tandem with one another to cook up an exceptional experience.

If you've played Rayman or not before shouldn't be an issue, but if you thoroughly enjoy 2D platformers this is a must play game.

Only downside I would see is the lack of a proper story but that is a minor nitpick on an otherwise fantastic game, recommended for everyone looking for a really fun time and a quality sidescroller.

I used to play Rayman on my VITA and tbh It's been long since I last played it and going back to it brings good memories. Although the controls are new to me especially since its on PC I'll still recommend the game.

Rayman Origins takes the tried and tested 2d platformula that has existed for nearly as long as digital domestic entertainment itself and attempts to expand on it to decent success. Whether it is the playful, yet satisfying physics, art direction that oozes charm, or the core gameplay that manages to integrate the two previous facets while also distinguishing itself from thousands of similar titles, Origins is an all around great platforming experience.

However, I am quite sure that it does not encompass the full potential of a physics-based action adventure game or interactive software as a whole for that matter. It is similar to other titles in that it does not maximize every moment that the player has decided to set aside for it, or incite them with a quality that they may have previously lacked prior to playing.

In spite of lacking what it may lack, what content it does have sustains its sufficiency at the least, even when subjected to the sharp scalpel that is criticism. Ultimately, in spite of sporting a modern facade, Rayman Origins remains a testament to the enjoyment that can be derived from great physics paired with simple, but enduring reactionary challenge.

Classic Rayman updated for the newer age. I am not even sure what they would do with the formula after Origins and Legends basically brought it all to a culmination of talent and design. Origins definitely has a slightly different artstyle than Legends, so at some point you will have to play both. I think people differ on how they approach the games, but overall they are fairly similar; both extremely high-quality platformers with exquisite art and charm. I come back to these all the time, and I never overstay my time with them. To me I go through a couple levels now and then and it's fantastic. I usually play multiple platformers at the same time so I don't tire of them.

The shmup-style stages blend with the swimming and platforming perfectly. Getting those last few lums is always on your mind, and the world they have created here is always fluently adding onto the previous stage, building to a consistently fine output that any platforming fan should enjoy. Past a couple lame checkpoints, I don't think there is too much here to whine about. Top of its class type design mixed with gorgeous visuals and great controls. I had to use some anti-deadzone, but other than that not too much to worry about. Controls like a dream on a DS4 Pad. This one should be near the top of everyone's backlog. Highly recommended.

You know the saying the calm before the storm? well, here it is the sleeping before the snore! where our friend Rayman and his buddies are just chilling in a hot afternoon underneath the shadows of the snoring tree, not realizing that they are making enough noise not only to annoy their neighbors but to raise an army of chaos and anarchy to storm the entire Glade of dreams...(now that is the kind of sleep im looking for :))

and thus our brave her's adventure begins, taking us to all sorts of places, up and down, left and right, to restore order and save the Glades!

This game is nothing but fun I would say, brilliant levels design, absolutely brilliant, slowly but surely you get and learn new moves and abilities that make the journey more interesting and challenging, very challenging at a times but never not fun, never!
whether you are in the mysterious jungles or in the Sahara desert, the blue blue ocean or up in the skies you can be sure of one thing, it will be fun.

The music though, to be honest, the music deserves its own review, it's that fucking good, it's incredible, it's bright, clean, vibrant and harmonics it is simply amazing, I love it, every single track!
I never expected this good of music, its energetic, charming, upbeat and cheerful.
I also never expected to have this much fun in this game and im glad I played it.
it's a fun simulator, it's a 10outta10.

I definitely recommend this game if you are into platforming type games, Raymen is quite a franchise to get into. While the game is playable alone, it would feel much better to play with others. Not a moment ever dull, always enjoyable to play from the beginning to end. So enjoy the journey once you start.

I love this game, I played it all the time when I was a kid but I simply can't get multiplayer to work properly especially with remote play so if you're looking to play this game I'd recommend getting one of the other ports

In my ongoing and likely futile effort to write a Steam review for every game in my library (#195 out of 555)... it's time for Rayman Origins.

I'm not the biggest fan of 2D platformers out there. I quite enjoyed Super Mario World back on the SNES, and I'm not entirely convinced any subsequent entry in the genre has yet been worth playing instead. It peaked early, is what I'm saying. So, yeah, don't expect a ringing endorsement here. Rayman Origins is a mascot platformer with one of the weirder mascots out there, and is mostly noticeable for (apparently) having a much bigger budget than is typical for 2D platofmers outside of Nintendo. What I'm saying here is that it's insanely polished, both visually and in terms of mechanics. Moving about the world feels very satisfying and the puzzles, such that they are, are typically challenging enough to be interesting but never managed to frustrate.

The difficulty also seemed just right to me--but I am definitely a casual player of platformers. I've never much cared for precision platforming challenges, nor relished the thought of playing through an entire level after making a single mistake near the end. If that's your thing, you might be disappointed here. That said, there are better 2D platformers out there in my estimation. You'd be hard pressed to find anything better than Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze, I think, and it's even harder to overstate the universal appeal of Mario Maker 2. Obviously, neither of those games is available on Steam, nor is any other Nintendo game. So if you're looking for a polished 2D platformer with excellent production value here, Rayman Origins isn't simply your best option: it's your only option.

In my opinion a relatively good game. Still not as great as the first 3 games, but better than Rayman legends and the shitty rabid games. Rayman 2 is still my most favorite platform game of all time. I really played that game dead

Rayman Origins is a fantastic game, there is nothing else to say just play it and you will see how good it is, the amazing 2D artstyle is orgasmic and during my playthrough i came countless times

For me, what I liked about Rayman Origins is its overall flow with levels, and it's artstyle. For example, what I mean by the game flows well is that it all connects together. At the end of each world is a mosquito level. Not my most favorite gameplay style, but whatever. You soar through obstacles and enemies that are exclusive to these levels and those levels only. Not ALL enemies, however (like those prickly orange things in Gourmand Land). And the artstyle? This (in my opinion) is LEAGUES better than Legends, it just POPS more, and even though Legends had some REALLY SOLID lighting, I think Origins did a better job distinguishing Rayman as a character, with more shading that still flows well with an environment with significantly brighter lighting.
But for now, that's all I can think of. The level design once you beat Mystical Pique feels lazy and just downright bad. Once you get to the point to where you're introduced to the new worlds, which literally are rehashed levels of the same environments that we all know and love, and I think the reason behind this was that after the main game, the developers goal was to make the game harder. Which kind of explains why the environments are rehashed, because they imagined them as if they were harder from the start. But that means that you can make more sacrifices in order to make the game harder in comparison to the main game. They start getting rid of checkpoints and scattering them out less frequently, and then they have cruel level design, that once you go POP from just purely hard level design, you get sent back to where you punched an eyeball door, or something. After you bubblized most of the enemies, and almost finished it, some stupid platforming underworld kills you for you to lose all that progress. And then, once you want to just finish the level faster, the game throws a big one at ya because then you miss all the lums, making no room for saving electoons. But since the Devs goals were to make that game harder, I'll give this part of the game a pass. Especially because I'm not that great at the game in general.

So, in conclusion, it's pretty good
