Shank 2 führt den Spieler in eine Pulp Fiction-Welt, in der der Berufskiller Shank gezwungen ist, den Pfad der Vergeltung einzuschlagen, nachdem sein Dorf terrorisiert und zerstört wurde. Auf Shanks Rachefeldzug steht dem Spieler ein umfangreiches Arsenal an Handfeuerwaffen, Schrotflinten, automatischen Waffen, Kettensägen, Macheten und Granaten zur Verfügung, die in der comichaft gestalteten Welt von Shank 2 zum Einsatz kommen.

Der in Shank 2 neu enthaltene Multiplayer Survival Modus wirft den Spieler in schnelle und actionreiche Kämpfe, in denen Stellungen vor Gegnerwellen verteidigt werden müssen. Zweier-Teams können lokal oder online gegen die immer stärker werdenden Feinde antreten, die im Verlauf neue Waffen fallenlassen.

Rambos zweite Runde

Flüssiger, schneller und brutaler!

Gameplay
„Shank 2“ ist wesentlich schwerer als sein Vorgänger. Das liegt zum einen daran, dass man mehr Schaden erleidet, allerdings sind auch negative Dinge dafür verantwortlich. So funktioniert das geschickte Ausweichen aus dem ersten Teil leider nicht mehr so und es wird mehr auf Konter ausgelegt, was für mich aber nur so mittelmäßig gut funktioniert. Die Prügeleien sind zwar dynamischer und schneller, aber leider auch zufälliger. Damit meine ich, dass man einfach aus Versehen mal von einem Gegner in eine Explosion oder Feuer geschmissen wird und diesen Umstand manchmal gar nicht kontrollieren kann. Das Gameplay ist immer noch gut und in gewisser Weise auch spaßiger als im ersten Teil, aber gleichzeitig sorgt „Shank 2“ mit seinen Neuerungen für Frustmomente, die ich im Vorgänger nie hatte.

Der zweite Teil bietet mit einer knapp 4-5-stündigen Kampagne eine längere Laufzeit als sein Vorgänger, was allerdings auch ein wenig auf den erhöhten Schwierigkeitsgrad zurück zu führen ist. Allerdings wird hier keine lokale Coop-Kampagne mitgeliefert, sondern lediglich ein Wellenmodus, in dem man möglichst lange zu zweit überleben muss.

Story
Nach Vollendung seiner Rache im Kill Bill-Still, reist Shank zurück in seine Heimat, wo mittlerweile eine böse Miliz die Kontrolle übernommen hat. Auch wenn unser „Held“ zunächst keine große Lust auf eine Revolution hat, nimmt er sich dann noch ein Herz. Und zwar die Herzen seiner Feinde! Die Geschichte ist nicht so gut wie im Vorgänger, allerdings wurde in die einzelnen Level und Feinde mehr Herzblut gesteckt, um ein wenig mehr Diversität zu erreichen.

Grafik/Sound
Entwickler Klei setzt in den meisten seiner Spiele auf einen Zeichenstil, der oft auch spielübergreifend wiedererkennbar ist. Im Vergleich zum Vorgänger wirkt „Shank 2“ etwas schnelllebiger und etwas weniger gezeichnet. Generell wird durch das schnellere Gameplay, aber eben auch durch neue Effekte eine bessere Dynamik erzeugt: Das Spiel wirkt deutlich flüssiger im Ablauf und das Auge weidet die Feinde mit aus.

Der Soundtrack ist gut, aber weniger auffällig als im ersten Teil.

Fazit
Der erste Teil von „Shank“ war schon sehr gut, der Zweite sorgt für ein flüssigeres und abwechlungsreicheres Gameplay. Er fügt sinnvoll Dinge hinzu, gleichzeitig verliert das Spiel ein wenig seine Einfachheit, die ich am ersten Spiel so mochte. Aber auf jeden Fall bietet „Shank 2“ genau wie der erste Teil ein sehr gutes Spielerlebnis im Bereich des Beat-Em-Up und ist eine klare Kaufempfehlung wert!

So wie Shank sich durch seine Feinde schnetzelt, so kämpfe ich mich durch meine Steambibliothek. Nur…nicht ganz so cool. Egal! Wenn dir das Review gefallen hat, schau doch mal in meiner Steamgruppe vorbei und schließe dich dem Kampf an!

Puuuhh... was soll ich sagen: das Spiel selbst ist ur geil. Aber die Kampagne ist viel zu kurz. Ich bin kein großartiger Spieler, aber dass ich nach 5,5 Stunden durch bin hat es noch nie gegeben. Dynamik, Steuerung, alles genau wie es bei so einem Spiel sein sollte. Aber zu kurz...

Grottig! Mal davon abgesehen dass es wieder n schrottiger Konsolenport ist, (drücke Y, drücke RB ab in die Optionen.... und wieder raus aus dem Spielfluss) schlägt die Spielfigur manchmal einfach nach links obwohl der gegner rechts steht (selbst mit gedrückter D-Taste) Für sowas fang ich gar nicht erst an mit googeln, Refund und fertig. Da draußen gibts Spiele welche funktionieren, da muss ich meine wertvolle Zockerzeit nach Feierabend nicht auf Google versemmeln.

6/10 Gut.
Ein sehr kompliziertes Buttonsmashinggame.
Es macht zwar Spaß seine Gegner in allen möglichen variationen auseinander zu schnätzeln aber die Steuerung ist der blanke Horror, Bosskämpfe sind frustrierend und die Story ist bescheuert bis unnötig.
Leider finde ich keine Motivation und keine Lust mehr das Spiel zu starten.
Für so ein mittelmäßiges Spiel ist die Steuerung zu komplziert und alles Andere nicht packend genug.
Also lohnen tut es sich nicht...

Beim Kauf nicht aufgepasst... der Koop-Modus entpuppt sich als nicht in der Kampagne spielbar. Geht aus dem Text der Verkaufsseite nicht hervor. Für mich damit leider uninteressant geworden.

Der erste Teil war besser. Diesem Teil fehlt es einfach an Story und Style.
Shank 2 ist nur noch ein Action Brawler/Beat um up Gelöt.
Besser spielbar mit Controller (Verbessert die Steuerung aber auch nicht wirklich).
Kann man sich bei einem Sale Tag geben, muss man aber nicht.

Assim como seu antecessor, Shank 2 é um beat 'em up que transborda violência, mas de uma maneira um tanto divertida. Existem inúmeras maneiras de despachar as milícias malvadonas que acossam o protagonista nos 8 levels da campanha single player. A duração me pareceu menor que do jogo original, ainda mais se considerar que a campanha co-op que trazia fases originais diferentes da campanha single player, o que era uma grande sacada do primeiro game, foi substituída por um modo survival bem menos atrativo (ao menos pra mim). Mas ao considerar as horas totais de gameplay, não me pareceu tão diferente assim, mostrando que agora as fases são mais longas e/ou desafiadoras, já que finalizei ambos no nível hard. No mais, a jogabilidade, gráficos, dublagem e trilha sonora são apresentam nenhuma evolução aparente. Não que isso seja um demérito, já que o jogo é bem competente com suas músicas de filme de justiceiro, dublagem canastrona, jogabilidade fluída e gráficos cartunescos que lembram um pouco Samurai Jack. Ainda é um bom jogo, mas é uma sequência que não supera o primogênito.

If you want to know how it is like juggling the cannibals and evil military humans with your Uzi bullets up in the air, if you want to shot the gunman with mouth gaped open through back of head, if you want to throw a sumo to a grinder belt and crush them apart with a heavy cargo turning them into bare chunks of meat, if you want to slit the chest ripping it apart with dozens stabs at a time followed by decapitating head with your machete with someone you want to throw your anger at, if you want to slash the skull of a flying pilot shooting missiles all over the place like bunkers while mid-air, if you want to let the river of bloods flow openly of the most gruesome and meaty bosses in any other game, if you want to play the most gore and violence struck and blood-packed granting your enemies with a most painfully imaginable death ever ever, then Shank and Karina are here as your buddies with this possibly the best action platformer game in the entire gaming industry.

If you are bit sensitive with blood and dark-themed games and can easily catch migraine with anything red looking liquid or if you are a girl kid who likes to play with dolls, then better maintain a distance from this game.

I didn't really liked the original Shank, but I gave it a thumbs up mostly because it was kinda fresh and new. This sequel is more of the same, to a point it feels more like and expantion pack than a full sequel. But the main issue is its level design that is terribly linear and superficial and the overall repetitive experience that is a complete bore.

Fun couch Co-op game. I used to play this back on PS3 with my brother and now I have it for steam. So if you're looking for a local co-op game to pass time that is fun, get this.

Verdict: An amazing Beat 'em up that I have no issue recommending.

“Long” version:
Shank 2 is a 2D beat-‘em-up developed and published by Klei Entertainment.
This is the studio that gave us Mark of the Ninja so I was super excited to try this out.
You play as Shank and you must save your mentor Elena from some bad guys.

The story feels like a grown-up version of Saturday morning cartoons. It is very tongue-in-check, over-the-top and violent. It is very self-aware and does not shy away from any gruesomeness and cheese.

The gameplay is more polished when compared to the first installment in the series. You can slice and dice your enemies with ease, swap weapons mid-combo, dodge effortlessly and use consumables to stay alive and deal with harder enemies.
While combat is fluid, for the most part, I found you get stun-locked rather easily and it always felt kind of cheap. There are also certain sections in levels that feel a bit janky but nothing truly overwhelming.
For the most part, you will feel like a total boss dealing with regular enemies and a true bada$$ after you dispatch bosses – these require better timing and are very challenging. You must time your dodges and hits, as you really cannot trade hits with them.
There is also a bit of platforming involved. It is a bit shallow and usually kills you instantly if you fail.
You get a good amount of weapon variety and you can swap before every level. There are also special weapons that some enemies grant you which are stronger but end up breaking after a few hits.

While the original Shank featured campaign co-op (which was a lot of fun), Shank 2 does not, which is very unfortunate. You do get a survival mode where you can play with a friend, in both local and online co-op. It is enjoyable but feels a bit unbalanced towards the final waves. I tried completing it with a friend several times and never managed to do it (mostly due to lag) but it always felt fun. I ended up asking for help from this pro-player that flew around the arena and completely demolished everything – really, it was wonderful to behold that level of skill and dedication to this game. Shank 2 features the very distinct Klei Entertainment graphics and character design, which I love.
Characters look crisp and stand out from the background. Animations are great, with plenty of gory finishers for each weapon.

Sound design is good. All weapons feel impactful, voice acting is either very “edgy” and over-the-top or absurdly cheese (which suits what they were going for). The soundtrack is rather limited but still very enjoyable – it reminded me of that Danny Trejo movie, Machete.

I recommend Shank 2. It goes on sale fairly often and you get a really good amount of content. They polished most things from the first game and we are left with a solid sequel. The absence of story co-op is very unfortunate – survival mode is OK but I would rather murder cartel members with a buddy during the campaign instead of protecting weapon caches for 30 waves.

Final score: 7.5 out of 10.

Look I've been a player of Klei games since fkking Shank 2....

It breaks my heart. Betrayed by one of my favorite game developers of all time. Here's the rub the Pooh's game company killed Stonehearth another game I loved because he wanted to steal the dudes that created the evo fighting tourny to help guide riot on a fighting game.

Now I have to deal with them again with Klei ?! seriously. I won't recommend any of your games anymore.

I will only, and I suggest you dear reader only, play their games in a sandbox enviroment where one can control how this program sends out data.

In a short period of time it is more than likely going to happen that all klei games are going to start harvesting your info like facebook does. Klei will probably thrive with all their new money and idiots playing DST but what ever. You'll never get another dime of mine, and that makes me sad.

2d side-scrolling beat-em-up, brawler. The game gives you a grindhouse film type setting, and Shank, the tequila drinking protagonist that can make the world right. Think of machete but with decent story. You will have a several weapons to choose from and fight enemies, rack up combos and combine 3 types of weapons to kill the enemies in unique ways. The story is decent but it was much better in Shank 1.

Unlike the original Shank, there is no Co-op mode to play with your friends or your younger siblings. There is however a survival mode where you fight waves of enemies with another player either locally or online. It didn't really attract me much.

Overall, I would say The original Shank was better in terms of campaign and story and Co-op option. But it is still a better game than many in its genre.

In 2020 worth the buy if on sale.

I played Shank 1 and Shank 2 directly one after the other. Shank 1 was great. But Shank 2 I would not recommend . Compared to the prequel, the difficulty skyrocketed up to a point that was not enjoyable to me, even though I played on normal difficulty. I ended up beating the last 3 levels with an activated trainer to make me invincible and I'm glad i didnt torture myself any further.

Improvements over Shank 1:
- Overall it seems like the animations are smoother (with more frames per animation).
- There were less situations where i felt overwhelmed by enemies and lost my character in a pile of enemies and explosions.

Drawbacks compared to Shank 1:
- Some animations simply dont fit in, feel awkward or look worse than before. Climbing looked badass and fast paced in part 1, while now it looks dull and boring.
- dodging is now done with the right stick, meaning you have to move your thumb from the attack buttons over to the stick for dodging. Either you lose a bit of time for attacks, or you are too slow to dodge in the right moment. The controls can be changed though, to the shoulder buttons for example, but still it is a bit annoying that you need separate buttons for rolling to the left and to the right, while in Shank 1 it was one button for dodging into either direction or blocking (and blocking was removed alltogether)
- The story feels boring and pointless. Corina is supposed to be your girlfriend or something, which is hardly ever noticeable. Shank seems depressed and demotivated. The furious revenge seeking Shank of part 1 was much better and the story was fed to you bit by bit, clearing up everything in the end. Not so in part 2.
- The animations are less diverse and more repetitive.
- boss deaths are far less badass and rewarding.
- cannot change weapons on the fly anymore.

Thats it. Go play Shank 1 instead and if you have already, leave Shank 2 alone and remember the good time you had with Shank 1 instead.

Not an enjoyable game to play.

All your actions are a little bit delayed, which results in many unexpected and successful enemy attacks. Very frustrating.

Controls are not very responsive, which is crucial for this style of game. Climbing is just awful.

The game is a pretty fun side-scrolling shoot'em up, but it has a HUGE problem: the checkpoints.

With my skills a stage on hard difficulty takes about an hour or so on average. And 30-40ish deaths. I was not too glad when in previous levels the checkpoint would be somewhat 3-5 screens behind. But on stage 7 i suppose there are no checkpoints as such (or this particular part of it is unbelievably long).

I got almost to the end of the level, died from a fattie - and there i go, right to the beginning of it. It's so stupid to have to do the level from the start over and over again

That's the only drawback i've found so far, but it's really annoying.

On the bright side:
+ nice graphic style
+ variety of weapons to experiment with warious load-outs and find the one best suitable for this particular level
+ nice background music
+ unlockable content for various in-game achievements
+ co-op survival mode

I have a mixed set of emotions when reviewing this game.
I want to talk about the art style, the combat mechanics, the graphics, and other good aspects.
But I keep getting drawn towards the lack of progressive growth in the story. The game quickly becomes about grinding out victories and repetitive levels with each level being harder than the one before.
To me, single player games are an investment that I can pickup over the course of several years. And in that aspect, I feel the Shank 2 was a disappointment.

I liked the first one more. Shank 2 has serious problems with frame pacing and there is horrible tearing without an option to enable vsync. Movement/Combat sometimes don't behave like you expect and feels a bit unresponsive. I don't expect much of a story from such a game but even by this standard it really feels week.

Just a word of warning: If you own an amd system e.g. 3600x, 5700 xt or similar. The game is unplayable as animated objects are invisible. Currently from my understanding; there is no solution. A number of people have reported this problem but have little in a ways of work arounds. It's a shame as this is a really enjoyable game.

Will happily change this post if there is a solution found.

I had played the first part when I was 14 and when I saw it on steam I bought both the games to support the developers and I am glad I did so cos I had a great time with the second part too,one of the best in its category <3

What is Shank 2 ?

Yesterday I finished the first Shank game, since both this and the first game are very short games taking 2-3 hours to finish (I ended spending more time with the first game because it had 2 separate campaigns for both solo and coop while 2 only had one), so after finishing the first Shank game in a single sitting and then also finishing the coop campaign with a friend the same day (thanks remote play together), I LOVED the first Shank game, it had a badass personality and artstyle and a great adrenaline-inducing and violent gameplay so without thinking twice and being familiar with Klei games which I ended up enjoying every game from them that I played, I got Shank 2 immediately today and I also finished it in a single sitting and messed a bit with the survival mode and its safe to say that I was really disappointed...

Shank 2 just doesnt feel as good as the first one, a sequel has the obligation to improve the formula of its previous game, its ok that the sequel doesnt turn up to be better than its predecessor, its acceptable, sequels either try new things that change the formula or focuses on providing the same experience but trying to fix possible flaws and refining it to be better, Shank 2 does neither, the first game felt much better both visually and gameplay-wise, visuals-wise I felt the first one had a much better style and was even more violent than this, 2 may have better cutscenes and more varied levels but It looked boring to me, gameplay-wise its a step down, the game just feels like a worse version of the first, while the gameplay is mostly the same the controls feels clunkier. slower and less responsive, the dodge move feels much worse compared to the first, you cant change your weapons at any time you want and the combat alongside the enemy design felt simplier, the levels had too much of trial and error sections that fucks the pacing up, I also found the game to be less challenging than the first especially in the final battles which the first game kicked my ass, the combat is less impactful, the boss battles less exciting and the game feels kinda unbalanced sometimes, the excess of ranged enemies pissed me off for example so did the less effective style of the game, the survival mode which was one of the few new things the game tried to add compared to the first, didnt do anything to me, it felt like an afterthought.

Shank 2 may be the only disappointment I had with Klei and I wasnt expecting the second game to turn out this way, I expected the first game with a little more but I dont think its a bad game and despite being disappointed with it and thinking its less fun than the first, I dont think it deserves a recomendation, it almost feels like its the first game due to how worse and less polished/detailed everything feels and the previous Shank game is the actual sequel that has improved from the mistakes of the first, its a backwards sequel that does everything worse than the first game and became kinda useless during that process, the drop in quality was VERY noticeable to me, despite being cheap game there are better ways to spend your money and waste your time, get the first game and have fun playing it by yourself and then play it with a friend and skip this sequel.

Shank 2 improves upon its predecessor in almost every way. Gone are the ridiculous off-screen deaths and obscure boss fights - replaced by tighter controls, a checkpoint per level on hard (which is excellent - nothing more annoying than dying just before getting to the boss and having to restart the entire level), as well as leaderboards per campaign level - which provides a little bit of competition between friends. Sadly, the co-op campaign of the first game is not present, and the story is not as gripping, but overall the additions still make it a superior game, in my opinion.

One notable addition is Survival Mode: essentially a wave-based objective mode where two players can join forces to defend the supplies and defeat the waves. It provides a welcome change of pace from the campaign levels and is a good way to kill some time, as well as some goons. Completing the various challenges in game (across both campaign and survival) grants access to new characters, with their own unique bonuses: e.g. more health, more ranged damage, more shank damage, cheaper turrets, etc.

Recommended to anyone who enjoyed the first game, or enjoys the genre. I would suggest playing the first game before this, if you are uncertain.

Played on Windows 10 Pro x64 without any issues.

I'm going to compare this to how guacamelee 2 came out and how it improved on the first game. This is not the case with shank 2, it's way worse than the first game. Story wasn't that interesting, character meh, combat somehow felt worse than the first.
