+ gute Synchro
+ gute Geschichte
+ gute Rätsel

- Manche Rätsel etwas zu Trial and Error mäßig

Fazit:

Zusammengefasst:

Einzelspieler: 8/10
Grafik: 10/10
Musik: 10/10

Eins meiner absoluten Lieblings- Point & Click Adventures!

This cautionary review will be available in german to warn german-only-speaking gamers,
and also in english to warn any other gamers that have possibly a hard time understanding english language:

Deutsch:

English:
Thumbs down for this lazy, quick cash-grab of a steam port.
Don't get me wrong, this game IS a legendary point-and-click classic,
but! - while the original PC version contained more than only one perfect localization for other languages,
what you get here in this lazy steam port will be english voice and text only.
And those english voice overs are kinda soddy quality compared to - for example - the perfect german one.
In the discussions, after some research, you'll find a patch that gets you the german localisation -
but it's a real shame that this deed's up to those dedicated adventure lovers,
while this should be the responsibility of the company who put this up on steam
(Disney? Lucas Arts? whoever, i don't give a fucking damn)
So, any other-than-english steam gamers - don't say you haven't been warned...

I may further remark that the version available on GoG matches the european first edition of the game and therefore contains text AND voice in german, english, spanish, french and italian language.

Viel Spass damit!

Sometimes overlooked, this game is a sci-fi drama story. The Dig does not contain the usual comedy from a Lucas Arts point-and-click adventure game, but it makes up for it in unique puzzles and story. This game is so cheap, it is hard to find a reason why NOT to buy it if you have never played it. Definitely a classic.

This is a great game, when I played it so many years ago, it was Christmas 1995. Have a wonderful story to tell., When I had completed putting the metal plates into Attila and the thing was transporting them to the new planet , outside my window I saw a Meteorite coming down outside the window that the computer was, it was white hot with lightning around it , and I was like OH cool! Actually read the book for this game. Have the Audiobook for this game as well. Kind of a short game when you re-play it, but ranks up there with Indiana Johnes and the infernal machine. My children love this game and still play it, recently told them about the DIG and what a wonderful game it is.

The Dig is a treasured LucasArts adventure game from my youth, and I'm finished this game again! It was originally conceived as a film project for Steven Spielberg before people realised it was just too big and complicated to make. Truly, truly awful !!

An old adventure game from 1995, featuring a sci-fi story by nontheless than Stevel Spielberg!
It's been upgraded to run on modern operative systems like Win 10 and by following a guide you're going to be able to play it in full-screen.
Even if the graphics are old they've kept their charm. The soundtrack is just brilliant, I've loved it.
Unless you decide to complete it all by yourself, you're going to need a guide to figure out most of the puzzles in the game.
It's hard but its story's what kept me playing the game to the end.

Such a game-changer. I have never had such an overwhelming experience that changed the way how I conclude. The game itself is entirely out of this world and I believe would detour the structures of games we have today. Puzzles may be arduous but they will coax you to feel an overwhelming elation.

I played The Dig for the first time when I was 18 - a friend sent me the files on a CD via post. It remains fondly in my memory and was almost certainly the game that got me into gaming! I was overjoyed to see it available on Steam.

The Dig is, to this day, really awesome. It's interesting, challenging, and also thought-provoking. I am so glad this game exists, it's everything I love about playing games. It is so close to my heart, but it also still holds up after all this time.

This review is for people who've played the game before on older versions and want to know how the Steam version is.

It's a faithful port but had some audio issues, periodic pops and crackles that are distracting over time. If you can track down the original to play on ScummVM, that would be the ideal way to replay it. Otherwise, this is solid.

Amazing! I do love the old point and click adventure games, especially those from Lucasarts. But playing this for the first time (to the end, remember never finishing this back in the day) in 2020 I have to say that so many modern games never come even close to this masterpiece! Beautiful artwork (truly magnificent!), great sound design, a story that would have made blockbuster numbers at the theaters. A must play for the adventure game fan!

A true classic. Lucas Arts at it's best.
Played it back in the day and it marked part of my childhood. Played it again when found on Steam and is still one of the best adventure games of all times.

Great storyline based on a Spielberg script.

Excellent puzzles and dialogs with really good characters.

And the music wow. The soundtrack of this game is just amazing.

Totally recommended.

Originally planned as an episode of Steven Spielberg's Amazing Stories, then later a movie, It was deemed too expensive to produce at that time. Couple years later you bring together Spielberg, Orson Scott Card, Brian Moriarty (who was behind some of Infocom's greats) and LucasArts and you get The Dig.

Interesting development history aside, i really enjoy this game. I got it when it came out back in '95 and still own the original box and soundtrack. The Dig wasn't your typical lighthearted LucasArts adventure game dealing with survival and death on an alien world. In some cases that made for a challenging game, as a lot of the alien devices required a good bit of finagling to figure out how to solve them. Back then, there wasn't an internet readily available to turn to when you got stumped. The game could get frustrating in that aspect but there was still plenty to like; The serious nature of the setting, Robert Patrick voicing the main character (LucasArts games were getting a lot better in the voice department when they started getting Talkie versions of their games), the alien landscapes and the ambient music by Michael Land.

Yes, i grew up in the golden age of adventure games, so i am going to be a bit bias about these gems that i love. Point n' Click is pretty much ingrained into my being and will always feel second nature to me. Doesn’t mean someone can't stumble upon The Dig, give an almost 20 year old game a spin and still find something really special. These hand drawn graphics still remain pleasing to me heh.
