In dem Action-Adventure mit Rollenspielelementen folgt der Spieler der Geschichte zweier Charaktere – der eines französischen Tempelritters und dessen Gefährtin, einer der Häresie beschuldigten Edeldame. Mit diesem ungleichen Paar muss der Spieler die Mysterien hinter dem Templerorden aufdecken, eine Rolle innerhalb einer mörderischen Verschwörung spielen und schließlich das Geheimnis des Heiligen Grals lüften!

The First Templar enthält sowohl einen Einzelspieler- als auch einen Koop-Modus.

Im Einzelspiel kann der Spieler zwischen beiden Charakteren wechseln und die Kontrolle des jeweils anderen der KI überlassen. Zu jedem Zeitpunkt kann ein zweiter Spieler ins Spiel einsteigen und die Kontrolle über den KI-gesteuerten Helden übernehmen.

Super Coop RPG Spiel!

Kampfsystem macht Laune und die Level sind auch gut. Grafik & Sound gehen auch in Ordnung.

Klar, es ist kein AAA-Titel aber für den Preis geht es vollkommen klar.

Im Sale mitnehmen und Spaß haben. :)

Ein Spiel dass mehr bietet als gesehen wird

The First Templer ist nicht das beste Spiel aber auch nicht das schlechteste und ich verstehe nicht wieso es hier so schlecht abgetan wird im Anbetracht der vielen wirklich schlechten Spiele auf dem heutigen Markt. Vieles in dem Spiel was nicht so gelungen ist, wird wieder ausgewogen mit den sehr guten Ideen die dort mit einfließen und der sauberen Umsetzung. Das Kampfsystem ist weitaus schwieriger als das bei Assassin´s Creed wo man nur zwei Tasten benötigt um als Sieger hervorzugehen. Hier ist es wichtig den Überblick zu bewahren in der Schlacht und darauf zu achten dass Feinde dir nicht in den Rücken fallen denn unser Held kann nicht einfach seinen Rücken verteidigen durch das drücken und halten der Blocktaste. Umso wichtiger ist darum das Movement und das Timing um feindliche Angriffe zu Kontern oder mit dem Schild zu Blocken, gezielte Sprünge in oder aus der Masse geben einen oftmals grundlegene Bausteine über einen Sieg. Auch Finisher gibt es hier und zwar nicht zu oft hintereinander so dass es nichts besonderes mehr wäre sondern die Entwickler haben es geschafft diese genau im richtigen Maß zu setzen. Wer sich also hier erstmal mit dem Kampfsystem vertraut macht wird schnell seinen Spaß finden, das steht ausser Frage. Das Spiel bietet über 10 Stunden Spielzeit gespickt mit Rätseln, Endbossen und Sidsquest´s. Die Maps sind alle sehr abwechslungsreich und bieten nicht nur einen Weg um das Ziel zu erreichen, auch gibt es immer mehrere Wege um seine Mission zum Erfolg zu bringen sei es nun laut oder leise, Töten oder dran vorbeischleichen es bleibt immer in der Hand des Spieler´s. Der Skillbaum ist sehr gelungen und man kann dort geschickt seinen Weg wählen den man gehen möchte, sei es nun als Tank, Krieger, Heiler/Mönch oder von allem etwas, es liegt wie immer an der Entscheidung des Spieler´s. Im Spiel lernt man sehr viel über die damaligen Kriege und der Gründe der Templer und deren Aktionen kennen, erzählt durch Steintafeln die man Suchen und Finden kann. Die Geschichte an sich dreht sich um den Heiligen Gral den es zu finden gild, im laufe der Zeit verdichtet sich das Geschehen und es wird weit aus komplexer. Die Grafik ist nicht die beste, das mag sein, schließlich ist es die Tropico Engine und die Entwickler betreten Neuland im Bereich RPG, denoch schaffen es auch hier die Entwickler diese Manko´s auszugleichen indem sie mit dem Shader so wie Lichtberechnung, inszenierung und Nebel das Visuelle geschickt aufwerten. Auch einen Koop bietet das Spiel womit der Spielspaß um weiten nochmal ansteigt.

Fazit:

Wer über der Grafik steht und ein Spiel sucht in dem er gerne mal über 10 Stunden Spielspaß hat voll mit Rätseln, Endbosse und anderen dingen, der sich in ein komplexes Kampfsystem einlernen möchte und auch sonst sich für die Tempelritter und die damaligen Geschehnisse interessiert, und die Option eines Koopmodus haben möchte, um mit Freunden auf endecker Tour zu gehen, der sollte auf jedenfall zuschlagen, vielleicht nicht für den Vollpreis aber wenn es im Angebot ist lohnt es sich bei weitem. Gebt dem Spiel eine Chance, am besten ihr spielt bis zur zweiten Mission denn dort fängt das Spiel an seine volle Blüte zu zeigen.

Zunächst was Allgemeines:

Nicht jedes negativ bewertetes Spiel hat diese Bewertung auch verdient!
Es gibt zu viele die ein Review verfassen, ohne sich länger mit einem Game zu beschäftigen.
Urteilt lieber selbst!!! Oder befragt einen Freund, der die gleichen Gamer-Interessen vertritt.
Mußte das mal los werden :) xD

Nun zu The First Templar:

Es fängt ganz harmlos an....ein Templer auf der Suche nach dem Gral. Die Geschichte um diesen First Templar wird im laufe des Spiels immer interessanter bzw. spannender.
Die Sprachausgabe ist schön umgesetzt. Nett sind auch die kurzen Gespräche mit dem Mitstreiter, besonders die mit Marie...:)
Musik immer stimmig.
Graphik nicht die Beste, mir hat es gereicht. :D
Keine offene Welt, dafür schön gemachte Levels.
Gameplay / Kämpfe sind ok. (schön hier die Zeitlupe, finished move)
Vieles, wie Fallen umgehen oder Tore öffnen, kann nur durch die Zusammenarbeit der beiden spielbaren Chars erreicht werden.

Was mich nun wirklich stört:
Das Skillsystem! Es ist vorher nicht klar was man da levelt, da nur angrenzende Fähigkeiten sichtbar sind bzw. erst duch Punkte-Vergabe sichtbar werden.
Keine freie Speicherung. Manchmal kommt man ohne Vorwarnung in den nächsten Bereich. Da es vorher keine Warnung gibt, kann man das Level nochmal von vorne beginnen, sollte man etwas vergessen oder noch nicht alles angesehen haben.

Fazit:

Ein schönes, unterhaltsames Spiel für zwischendurch. Mir hat es jedenfalls gefallen.:)
Coop hab ich nicht ausprobiert, kann dazu also nichts sagen.

Schade, dass dieser Titel von Magazinen so zerrissen wurde. Ich hatte jedenfalls viel Spass beim spielen. Ich fand die Story gut und auch die Steuerung war OK. Sicherlich fehlt es an der einen oder anderen Ecke an Tiefgang. Auch die Grafik ist schon leicht angegraut. Dennoch fand ich das Spiel spannend und abwechslungsreich. Wertung: 7/10

You know what, I will reccommend this game because well, it is a very good game worthy of praise. Now the controls are VERY SIMPLE. Its no Dragon Age ok? But Im sure you didn't buy it expecting that. When I bought it I was sort of thinking about a Nicholas Cage/Ron Pearlman movie where the two of them are Templars througout all the battles of history, and I was Praying it would be like that. But it does Not too badly.........

You will have many more, much more polished games that do this concept soooo much better, but for this game to hold it's own it needed story and that is one thing you will have to work out for yourself, wether this one has what it takes to keep you playing until the end to find out the entire story.

This turned out to be a fun action RPG despite a little bit of clunkyness and some questionable voice acting choices. The graphics look a little rough for it's release year but if you can get past that it's a nice change of pace from the usual settings.

Combat was fun even though there's not a lot to it and the puzzle parts were enjoyable. The story seems a little rough but not bad overall. If you are looking for a decent cheap RPG to kill a good bit of time with, consider giving this one a try!

This game tried... and failed miserably, There's an ugly green bar that takes up like 20% of the bottom of screen making the actual player viewports so small that it's difficult to connect with the game in any way.

The gameplay is quite stiff and repetitive, all the missions are almost the same and fighting doesn't bring much joy. I bought this game when it was still fresh and i regret every penny.

Got this game on sale. I must say that this is a Good game
and really fun to play. The combat system is simple and easy to master.
I prefer playing it with gamepad controller with analog stick.
The graphics is pretty decent and would recommend it to buy
on sale it still worth playing this on 2021.

yes its a old game but I like it, didn't play it back in the day on my 360, was surprisingly fun, like the finishing moves animations considering the age of the game, no you wont want to complete it in a straight run, enjoyable for a hour or so gets a little repetitive so I keep coming back to it to finish more levels, I'm old so I still like old games with dated graphics, though I hate when new games don't make enough effort with graphics, older games they used all kinds of tricks to make games look good, most new games they wont the engine to do all the work for them.
Played on Ryzen 7 3800x, RX 6800 XT, 32 GB Ram 3200 xmp, windows 10 64, xbox series x controller.

The game is janky in every aspect, be it gameplay, presentation or vocie acting. Still, it is a very enjoyable action-adventure with decent combat, linear levels with a few side objectives and some interesting puzzles.

As a side note: the online servers are dead, so you can only play local co-op.

I played this game on the xbox360 few years back and loved it. Sure the game’s graphics are closer to xbox original however its a fun hack and slash RPG nonetheless with skill trees and loot chests. I say it’s sort of a bootleg watered down version of the older series of assassin creed but with more puzzles. I like the fact you can change characters at any moment to defeat different types of enemies thanks to the different gameplay styles of each character. The First Templar is a Cute, friendly and humorous game that does not take itself too seriously. The story is alright nothing too extravagant, still I recommend this game especially for the price!

I play this game in year 2020.
This 2011 game does not have the best graphics, the best combat control, the best CG action capturing, or the best story line.
But everything is fine, nothing is bad, and it's fun to play.

Metacritic and YouTube say this is a bad game.
I would agree if it was at its original price of $45.
But it's a $2.99 game now.

If you get The First Templar in your library, go play this and you won't regret.

A great Action RPG even in 2020. 9/10.
Sure the graphics is a bit dated, but still pleasant, but the story is 20h long, there are a lot of missions/chapters, some levels quite long... there is a nice mixture of fighting, riddles and traps, with some secrets...
The story is about the Templars, finding the grail, but there are also some small nice stories told... Many criticized the speech, but the English voices were good, I really enjoyed the story, and the characters grew on you...
To top things up, there is a nice amount of achievements, and the skills you get with XP make a big difference with time, there are sneaking passages... you get a lot for your money, especially as the game is very cheap nowadays.
Highly recommended!

If you want to buy a game, then they want the steam key added before you play.
I am fine with that.
Then you have to make an account that request to have access to your data.
If you do not check the option you can not play.
I checked the option so at least I could try the game.
At this point i'm kinda pissed about the time it taking just to play this game.
I hit continue and now, I need a confirmation email that has not arrived in over 10 minutes.
Uninstall and request money back.

Had a lot of fun with this game.The story was really good and once you get used to the combat system and learn new skills the game gets more fun.I hope the Devs make a second game in the future.Truly a hidden gem.

Graphics are dated, animations stiff , the sounddesign underdeveloped & fighting mechanics kinda meh and yet I had a lot of fun playing it in 2020.
It has an interesting setting, nice enviroments and an ok story you wanna see through (or at least I did).
Couldve used better loot ie loot other than cosmetics or temporary buffs and even if its just ~12hrs it has it length in the 2nd half.
Get it on sale.

Well, I remembered this game better than it really is. Animations are simply terrible even for its time. Same can be said about overall fight mechanics. Story also seemed nothing special for a little time I managed to play. And who came up with the idea to force users register accounts online in order to play single player game?

amazing game... this is not a AAA game, and that is fine! these guys actually created a very decent Templar game (not many out there) with cool animations. This is not your typical hack and slash, it is a little more strategic, and it has RPG elements to improve your character.
This is a very cool game, which I will keep playing for as long as I can... The story is great, the characters are nice, and it works nice with a gamepad.

If you re a Templar lover, do not waste any more time and get this game!

The First Templar is an overlooked game, featuring a pretty good story about the Knights Templar, inquisitors, and others seeking the Holy Grail during the 13th century. A lot more is going on, especially at first, although this is the major plot focus. Game play is straight forward, with combat similar to the Batman: Arkham series, but with swords and shields and daggers instead of fists and feet. It's not an open world, but a series of chapters each set in a new locale, very well put together and pretty linear in progression.

Puzzles that trigger deadly traps are littered through some levels, and are somewhat redundant and simple, but offer a reprieve from the action that can be nice. Levels look great, with environments that feel like faithful reconstructions of Europe in the Middle Ages, from forests to caves to swamps to villages to fortresses to deserts with a lot of detail and character, and the occasional hidden passage or secret to uncover.

There's not much exploration or deviating from the linear path to be done except to find the optional Templar Chronicles, which are somewhat interesting, or to open chests with temporary rewards. Despite how nice the levels look, most of it is eye-candy that can't be interacted with or explored, but this is OK. It keeps the game focused on the narrative and action. Throughout the game you'll play as a few different characters, always with the ability to switch back and forth between two at a given time.

Overall, a good hack and slash adventure game with a decent story that in one particular way might remind one of Jorge Luis Borges toward the final chapters. It's got very light RPG elements in the way of unlocking abilities for your characters through experience points, but ultimately these don't affect game play in noticeable ways. The game is nothing new or groundbreaking, but if you like medieval atmosphere and themes, stabbing your steel into the ribs of your legions of enemies, and following a story of templars and inquisitors and warriors conspiring against one another, you should give The First Templar a go.

No way to play together online. You need to register for a 3rd party page: Kalypso. After registering for that page, you can't connect to it.

Trying to play on a higher resolution makes the game crash. I have a fairly new and powerful pc.

WARNING! Requires 3rd-Party Account: Kalypso Launcher

Store page DOES NOT inform that you have to register a 3rd party account in order to play single player or co-op. As far as I'm aware, It should have a yellow box up right corner that notifies the customer if it's needful to play (3rd party account or 3rd party EULA). I don't like 3rd-party stuff overall but I respect it when there is a warning.

Offline mode is for last resort playing in my books; still though you could bypass their DRM launcher if you went offline and disconnected from the internet.

It was surprisingly good game, all things considered. Nothing extraordinary but a really decent action adventure game. With linear but interesting story, good balance between fighting and puzzles and a bit of stealth and exploration thrown into the mix.

This was a surprisingly good game, better than I expected. It follows the story of a Templar and a woman condemned as a heretic in their quest for the holy grail. There are a lot of interesting tidbits scattered around if you are a history buff.

Combat is a standard hack and slash gameplay, nothing special or deep there. Voice acting and music are decent, but nothing really standout. Get it on sale, it will be well worth it.

A medieval beat-em-up with RPG elements and an interesting historical premise. Good potential for replayability and co-op to boot. We need more beat-em-ups with a Crusader/Templar theme. The story is fun too - taking you from Europe to the Middle East with a few creative liberties to spice it up.

Too much DRM, and no warnings about that fact whatsoever (unless you read the right user reviews).

An interesting story but often I feel this game is completely lost at what it's trying to do. It begins as a quest to find the holy grail, only to find itself lost in many sub-plots along the way that don't really add up or make sense that will lead to many laughs. There's also a scene in a cutscene (Without giving away spoilers) where the Templars look more like stormtroopers from star wars. This game has its charms, but the confusion in the overall story can frustrate your play at times (If you care about story). I also feel that compared to other Kalypso Hack n Slash type games (Blood Knights, Vikings), they have a better combat system. Many times you will find yourself smashing the same button to kill enemies without any variety.

On a positive note I will say that it's great this game has split screen as opposed to the typical wide-angle arena style view with most Kalypso Hack/Slash games. You're able to explore for chests, hidden items, and to see more of the map. As well, this game also features an Arena mode where you can test out your new abilities in coop or by yourself that can be very enjoyable.
