My short playthrough was really cool in terms of presentation and I always like such genre games in terms of gameplay. What I wish for Beast is smooth gameplay and that you can play through the game several times in a New Game+ mode to better understand the whole story with its characters and unlock cool secrets or other things.

the possible potential should be tickled out in Beast with full passion

Ansonsten gutes Spiel

Ok so.. saw trailers, thought this looked neat. Described as Baldurs Gate / Diablo - Sold, love the setting, and i love turn based combat. Early Access, Day 1 Review (I dont usually do these)

Pros:
- didnt encounter any bugs except maybe overwatch being ignored, but that could be a mechanic I wasnt aware of
- runs really well
- story seems interesting
- some people might see this as a con, but the voice acting is campy af and I love it. Think Earth Defence Force but.. European / Slavic.
- Skill tree looks good
- Resource management, if you wanna shoot off all your bullets and arrows, go for it, but you wont have any the next fight, and whatever you find in the map or get as a reward is only gonna be a small amount of ammo. Nice to have that kind of weight because in general, so far, the ranged combat seems OP so its good to have it sort limited.
- The Beast Mode is neat
- The cut scenes are really nice, but it did make me with the gameplay was animated at least a fraction as well.

Cons:
- combat feels clunky and VERY slow, feels like a lot of extra clicks to do anything.
- waiting for animations - like reloading your gun before you can do an action, it would be nice to be able to queue. Theres a lot of sitting and waiting for your characters to do stuff like pack black powder into his gun with an invisible rod before icons to even do anything are available.

- In general just.. animations that make no sense. Character is ducking behind a barrel, 3 enemies approach. You stand up, kill, crouch back down. 2nd enemy - You stand up, kill, crouch back down. 3rd enemy - You stand up, kill, crouch back down. The game is broken into sequential turns, not initiative based, dont take cover until the end of turn. What should take 10 seconds to do takes 30 cuz you're waiting for repetitive animations.

- Enemy variety is bad. Every fight felt like you were fighting a clone army. It would be one thing if they were all in full armor, but youre fighting a half dozen peasants who all have the same face and weapon and clothes on.

- HUGE wasted opportunity with combat finishers. They look terrible, and the variety isnt there. In one fight i cut the right hand off 4 people in a row and slashed them across the face. And positioning ruins it. I was behind a guy stabbing him in the back and somehow his hand came off. The rest of the finishers i saw were super bland. I was expecting something super cool with the big hammer but nope. If you're gonna be a violent game, make it violent and visceral. Top that off with when the positioning isnt exactly right, the finisher makes no sense and the enemy is reacting to the wrong body parts being hit. It just looks goofy.

And to top that off, story-wise, the beginning is very confusing. You have no idea who anyone is, you go through a series of fights and cut scenes and then after about an hour or so with random people who you dont know, and then you do character creation with the character you've been playing the past hour (except the Prince battles of course). Ok fine. But the whole tutorial is really jarring and you feel like you're joining a story part way through with very little context.

Anyway, Ive done about half the content in the demo. I'll play the rest but I dont see any surprises coming. As of right now, just based on the the enemy types all looking exactly the same (all peasant archers look the same, peasants with scythes look the same etc, between the types they look different) and the 'cool' stuff they implemented falling short of being even remotely close to cool, actually making things worse, I cant recommend this game.

That said, i like the style, i like the direction, I really hope they can at least make it feel modern, because right now it feels like something circa 2010.

Enjoyable gameplay, especially for being in such early stages. The gothic, demonic aesthetic fits perfectly and is one of my favorite aspects of the game. Very intrigued to see how it continues to develop.

Little under an hour and I'm supposedly 20% through the campaign, at least according to my save.

The game definitely seems like a great concept, but it's rough in it's current state. I've noticed a few grammatical errors in the written text, and the dialogue can feel a bit clunky. There is a lack of any difficulty modification option from what I've seen, and the game is too easy if you utilize Overwatch to any extent. Maybe that's just because I'm early on still, but I'll get more into that later. The game presents you with skill trees and ability scores, but as of now you can't interact with them. Honestly they might as well be hidden until they're finish that system more. I know they want to include RPG elements, but as the game exists at launch it's unnecessary I think.

The game plays decently, if you've played Fireaxis Xcom or the first Phantom Doctrine, it'll all feel pretty familiar. It runs pretty smooth for the most part, even on my school laptop. The animations could use some TLC, but I've seen much worse in a turn based strategy. On max settings the graphics look good through cutscenes, but a bit dated during gameplay segments.

The thing I'm going to gripe about most is the sound. From cutscenes transitioning through loading screens back into gameplay, the volume level spikes really horribly. Sure this can be fixed a bit with sliders. But what about what you can't fix? Well even though the game seems to be set on being loud, it's so quiet. I was sure that the background music was nonexistent during gameplay. Even with it maxed out, I didn't hear it for the first 3 full missions. I had to set every slider to 20% with music maxed out to be able to hear it during normal gameplay.
My last gripe is the dialogue and sound effects. The sound effects on their own aren't that bad in-game on their own. What is really cringy is when you transform into the beast. The MC dialogue is bizzare and he just says weird things that take me out.
"Woof woof awoo"
That was the first thing that the man **said** after a rather dramatic cutscene accompanying the first transformation into the beast. It felt incredibly out of place for the tone the devs seem to be going for. A few other stinkers were enough to convince me to avoid using the beast form entirely for the rest of my playthrough

If you like turn based strategy games, and story based adventure games, you'd probably like the game as it is. It is not an RPG, at least in it's current form, but I think that the game will be great as it spends time in development. Unless you're keen on supporting the developer, I'd suggest waiting a bit to buy. I'm not going to refund because I hope to come back to this game in a few months to hopefully see the game polished and refined more. I really think that with a little bit more work this game will turn out to be a proper gem among turn based strategy titles, and I think I'm going to wait for then to come back to it.

BEAST is a janky rpg but it's in the good way, it takes place in a dark fantasy medieval Europe where you can transform into a wolverine devil but you can also play in the human form. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bkBcb...
I really like the dark medieval fantasy setting with monsters and grim dark story
Curently there is no base or management between missions, they just start and they are not very long, i hope we get a proper campaign but for 20 euros its ok. I did refund Dark Envoy because it was a poor quality rpg but this dark fantasy is much more interesting and the gameplay is not bad for now.You have items, skills, ammunition(4 shots at start so you have to get more to turtle) and skills.
Big CONS: nothing between missions, no mission selection or procedural content, Very bad UI, seems very short

Tried this on the Steam Deck, the game suffers from stuttering during cutscenes and gameplay is janky, text is also a bit challenging to read due to the small font size.

Completely understand that this game is still in EA so here's hoping the game will eventually be fleshed out and be optimized for PC/Steam Deck in the near future cause I for sure love the environment, atmosphere and the dark theme in this SRPG!
