Gothic, Die Siedler 6) und Oswin Neumann (u.a.

Insgesamt ganz nettes Spiel.

YANOGA REVIEW

GRAPHICS - ★ ★ ★ ☆ ☆
Really mediocre grapics. Character and Buildings looking kind of boring and the animations are VERY clunky. Light & Reflection Effects on the other hand looking really nice and looking at a whole town at night gives a nice atmosphere.

MUSIC - ★ ★ ☆ ☆ ☆
The same three songs playing over and over again. The Songs aren't awful but they're not rememarble.

STORY - ★ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆
Vikings lost their honour so you have to climb mountains to restore them to open the gate to Valhalla.
Focus is not on Story here.

GAMEPLAY - ★ ★ ★ ☆ ☆
The idea of the game is quite interessting. Making your way up the mountain is challencing and fun. But after a few times you unlocked everything and you're doing the same stuff in the same order over and over again.
The game starts really strong in my opinion but there is no long-term motivation.

WORTH BUYING - ★ ★ ☆ ☆ ☆
If you like The Seetlers or Buildings Games and you're ok with just having fun for 2-3 days I can recommend Valhalla Hills. I got it on Sale for 2€ and I was really addicted for a couple of Hours. All in All it's a very mediocre game.

LENGTH : Played 7-8 Hours , ''Complete'' the Game would take 13-14

BUGS : No Bugs only dumb KI

PRICE : 2€ on Sale

DIFFICULTY : Medium-Hard

FINAL:

69 / 100

Fun for 2 hours until you realize the entire game is like a roguelike if you won every single time you played. You can honestly fist-fight your way out of the first two dozen islands without ever building a civilization of every time. Nothing carries over. The game gets progressively harder and you start off every time with some logs and stones. Enemies can spawn around the most BASIC of resources so fist-fighting ends up becoming the start of every new map far enough in. It gets really boring really quickly.

considering my playtime it is somewhat weird I am not recomending this game... BUT:

a lot of that playtime is made up by setting up a map, having gold and beer running, going to bed or to work, and then finishing the map. so actual playtime is like 20 minutes out of 8 hours or something.

still leaves a lot of playtime, but that is mostly cause I was hoping for *some* form of progression. like the more maps you conquer, the more starting materials you get. or the faster your vikings run. or ANYTHING really. would have settled for the buildings looking fancier over time or the vikings getting bigger or some other visual.

Like this, it seems like rather lazy design to set achievements as high as they are just to get people to do the exact same thing over and over and over...

I really enjoy this little mix between Cultures and Northgard!!! :)
Despite resembling both games this one is unique in its own way... I didn't expect it to run on our old computer and that was one of the biggest surprises.
I had some troubles with the zooming in and out and I am not sure if it's the in-game problem or it's my PC's video card.
Overall, it looks amazing! The concept is really interesting - you can progress to the next level/island via a tribute or a battle. I miss the family element of Cultures (the other easiest way to have more workers and soldiers, after the fall from the sky option LOL). I really spend my whole free day playing and learning how to do deal with it and still have a lot to try.
The Unlocking system is also interesting touch and I really appreciate it.
I recommend you this game, especially if you had dreamed to see Cultures in 3D and you are the franchise and the developer's fan!
AMAZING GAME, can't wait to see what is happening next! (my own opinion)!!!

First impressions

This game is closer to a city builder than something strategic. You only control where you put down your buildings, you don't have any direct control over the vikings.
In story mode you start with a small island. On the island is a portal, which can be opened when you fulfilled the requirements of that level. So it isn't a sandbox. The first levels go quite quickly. Later levels have consequences when opening the portals, such as unleashing enemies on your colony. In my playthrough my quarries sometimes didn't work, without any feedback of why not.
There is also a open mode, with an explicit warning that it's hard. I was looking for a chill time, so I didn't dabble in this mode.

Preliminary view

Most people were looking for a Settlers experience and didn't find it in this game. I myself would continue the game if I could just keep on building, but I don't feel like starting over again and again. Yet I liked my time in this game, so if you're interested, I recommend playing this, especially for the discounted price, or in a bundle.

60/100

I also wanted to like this because it seems to be a fun interesting rts. But, as some have said, It is a chore to figure out and a chore to maintain, and I didn't find myself having much fun with it. I like the concept but the execution wasn't good. If you don't do some things perfectly( and it doesn't tell you what to do) your game will come to a halt as your vikings either don't use any tools or don't eat any food, and you will have no idea why they are doing nothing but dying.

My suggestion for viking rts... try Northgard! It is a really awesome rts, although the campaign is relatively short.

This game seemed lined up and ready for me to love it with its cute graphics and strategy/builder genre. As someone who never minds a grind and enjoys the simplicity of slowly building your own empire or gradually meeting a scenario's requirements, I thought only time could stand in my way of eventually being addicted.

I was right. But instead of being faced with a learning curve, I was disappointed to find that it just lacked basic gameplay structure. I usually get annoyed at a tutorial for explaining the obvious and can't wait to just learn by playing, but more clarification is needed in this game. It tells you how to build X, but not how it will affect Y or Z. I spent way, way too much time trying to figure out why my defenseless warrior wouldn't pick up a weapon after having made a dozen, or why no one would deliver one to him. Instead of being challenged I just became more frustrated. If this was the only annoyance that would be one thing, but that frustration is shared toward all aspects of the game as I began to realize I somehow understood less than when I started.

What it comes down to is Valhalla Hills being a chore. You have to invest a good deal of time before *maybe* even liking the game, which defeats the purpose of getting it in the first place. I got this on sale for basically nothing, and still feel like I overpaid.

I have always wanted to get into The Settlers franchise. It's a strategy game that I just didn't have the patience for, and I prefer games where I can directly control my citizens (so traditional RTS games). Valhalla Hills follows The Settlers game mechanics (for obvious reasons); however, I feel games that utilize that mechanic, must do one thing right.

AI villagers must be somewhat intelligent.

Unfortunately, with Valhalla Hills, the villagers are completely broken. They will fight with their bare hands, though they have upgraded weapons, they will not stay in their tents and remain homeless, they will forget to eat; overall, you will spend your time screaming at your monitor as they begin to die. Is this how the Vikings actually perished? We'll never know.

Valhalla Hills is in essence a contraption, designed by Daedra worshippers, posing as human game developers. Similar to the Reptilian Mark Zuckerberg and his sinister social media inventions, this game has an equally insidious purpose. While the graphics and art style may appear cuddly and adorable at a glance, when delving deep into the rabbit hole, it is quickly realised that this innocent aesthetic is merely a front, attempting to conceal their caverns of debauchery. This game is an experiment, a program designed to manipulate the programming in your mouse wheel and analyse how to artificially cause migrational shifts in the rabbit community. While downloading and attempting to navigate this game through borrowed Wifi, I noticed very peculiar shifts for my mouse wheel. Every time I flicked the wheel up or down an augmented shift occurred in the Tectonic plates, leading to several tremors in the ground, that resulted in nomadic shifts of rabbit tribes. This has lead me to believe, that the game has injected my scroll wheel with a tangible concentration of sugar and caffeine, leading to a response that is purely motivated by adrenaline, leading to immensely erratic scrolling responses. This theory is exemplified by the mass unemployment that is represented in the game, which is a subtle insinuation to the unemployed's dependency on sugar, mixed with tea. The difficult to utilise scrolling and general movement of the game is used to detract you from comprehending the real purpose of this contraption. They are attempting to hide the captive rabbits, that are residing within their game. This malevolent scientific experiment, seeks to analyse the changing nomadic shifts of Peter Rabbit and his family, deducing how influential external factors, such as a growing and expanding civilisation are to the rabbit community. It is frankly an unethical concept, that these fiends believe they can manipulate fuzzy bunnies. I have caught your indecency now, you vile miscreants, it is time to capitulate to my demands and avert your ways.

You may be inquiring as to what my demands are and I believe it is time to sate your curiosity. My requests are fair, they are reasonable and by the whole they are catered specifically to being fulfilled by these Daedra worshippers. My first demand is that I demand you release all rabbits in your custody, allowing them to return to their naive home, which is the British Isle, specifically in Wales. Secondly, I wish for you to free the hostages, who you are forcing to appear in this analytical experiment. Thirdly, I wish for you to alter the games name to Rivellion Rising. Fourthly, I seek that you add an imperative village Chieftain to the game, who remains with the character perpetually, assisting them and being significant for the players success. This Chieftains name will naturally be Quercus. These are the list of my logically concocted demands.

It has dawned on myself that I must compliment the game in some aspect, in order to evade the stark raving mad fans, who will likely attempt to lynch me. Very well, I will be humble, the graphics and art style, as a whole are aesthetically pleasing. However, I have reason to believe that the characters and figures presented in this game are not virtual figures, but are instead abducted fanboy's, who are perpetually forced to appear as in game villagers, on the threat of blackmail or not receiving free Valhalla Hills DLC.

As a conclusive note, I urge all who stumble upon this gem to flee, save your mouse wheel and the rabbits, before you morph into a pixelated version, of a Cartoons representation of a Viking.

My wife and I really wanted to like this game, but there seems to be some mechanics that are broken. I can see the food stocks in my food production facilities, and the workers are right by them, but they complain of no food and end up dying of starvation when the food was literally 10 feet from where they were standing. There also seems to be a bit of an issue in how your military reacts to enemies, it can be hard to get them to defend your town properly. If these issues can be addressed, I might recommend this game.

This game would probably be fun if they worked on the ai. The buildings don't get built in the order they're placed and frequently just use all the resources getting everything started while never actually completing the initial buildings. I constantly have a group of 20+ peons standing around starving to death looking at half-finished buildings. Random npcs just wander closer and closer and trigger villagers to run off to their death.

Repetitive and boring. Feels like an unfinished game that developers got bored of making halfway through and released as it is. It could have been decent if it remained in development for much longer, but at the current state it's quite bad.

The game play is simple and easy to learn, which is good because there isn't much of a tutorial. Can be challenging to learn at first, but it does make it fun.

Didn't liked it. Very limited set of tools to command your vikings, you can't control them and you just turn into passive observer when you don't build buildings. UI and camera angles are real disaster. Vikings are stupid, they will idle in group while staying next to storage basket and scattered resources. games from 2000 did it better tbh. I found myself suffering from boredom and clunky UI instead of enjoying my game,
If you're going to give this game a chance make sure to watch let's play videos to have an idea if you can enjoy it.

Fun at first, but after a few hours I started to grow bored. A few hours later I asked myself what I was doing since I was no longer enjoying it.

The interface is inefficient, and the text is sometimes poorly (or not at all) translated. There is no depth, the AI is dumb - which only makes the lack of micro-management worse, and the game asks you to do the same thing over and over:

Start on a small island, build up an economy, defeat the guardians. Maybe you get a few unlocks which add to the economy to be built. Defeat the guardians. Repeat. Ad nauseam.

This game is very reminiscent of the old Settlers games. Just without the road network traffic jams. I'm finding it quite addictive.

If you like a good resource economy game don't be put off by the mixed reviews, once you get the hang of it you'll forget the rough edges.

There's no campaign and not much hand-holding, and that's fine once you realise how extensive the unlock system is, providing steady progression and level variety.

Works fine on a 21:9 monitor, and runs nicely under Linux (except for cloud save?!?)

Don't buy this game - went out of early access too soon, because the devs went bankrupt.

It is fun for a few hours. Though soon after you got the hang of the basic principles the game just stops having content. Also as soon as it starts getting more complex, the game seems to break, or at least I have not understood how more complex logistics work, so I believe they just don't. To make it worse it is possible to end up in a deadlock of unproductive workers because you ran out of supplies, that cannot resupply fast enough because they are unproductive.

First of all, I always considered myself as Funatics fan. Their Cultures series always had a special place in my heart, while ZanZarah was a pure magic (still feel sad about the fact that the Xbox version never happened). In other words, I was pretty excited about Valhalla Hills. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a huge disappointment. Valhalla Hills is yet another one of those Early Access games where developers lost their interest in working on the game just because it was already selling fine enough. But I'm getting ahead of myself.

When you start Valhalla Hills for the first time, it feels quite OK. Some sort of basic mix between Bullfrog's Populous and good ol' Cultures / Settlers. The problem is – nobody ever cared to turn Valhalla Hills into a proper games. Funatics made some sort of substructure that includes some (very) basic city building stuff, Dungeon Keeper-like idea about enemies coming from portals, a-a-and... that's it. Instead of making a proper campaign full of interesting missions with different goals, they've just called it a day.

Valhalla Hills is just that. You build the city, you fight the enemies, repeat. The only goal you'll have here is to make your vikings to enter Valhalla, but honestly, it's just an excuse, since it won't give you a proper “I did it!” feeling. It's just something that happens over time and there's no satisfaction from doing it. At all. It doesn't even matter how many you'll send there, you'll still get nothing. In other words, that cool feeling from beating the game? It isn't there. Valhalla Hills is all about grinding. Heck, even achievements here are all about doing the same exact stuff again and again with no end! Sure, the maps will become bigger and landscapes / enemies will also change (DLC, ho!~), but all in all, it's the same exact thing again and again with no proper goal or reason. No alternative game modes (aside from so-called Open Game, which is a joke), no complicated settings like in the 4x games to add more replayability, no multiplayer, no leaderboards, no story, no real goal, nothing. Just you, doing the same basic stuff again and again.

Imagine a very basic RTS game with nothing but infinite skirmishes. Valhalla Hills would be exactly that. It looks cute, it gives you a nice Cultures vibe and it's kind of fun... for about thirty minutes. After you exit the game for the first time, it's absolutely impossible to find a reason to return. Just because you've already seen everything there is. And man, it feels awful.
