-Gutes Fundament, Gameplay-Loop funktioniert sehr gut

Contra:

LEAP is a very interesting game. I fell with Blue Isle some years ago after finding their game titled Valley. I kept my eyes on LEAP for a couple to a few years now, because I was excited for their next big thing. I want to tell you what I think about it in it's current state. I will put aside my bias for this one, but I will say, this game has potential and promise.

I want to put this out there: This game is early access. Every early access game has its bugs and whatnot. With that being said, I have only experienced one bug. Yes, only one. And it was nothing major. The game is incredibly solid for being early access, especially considering how other games can be in early access. Subnautica? Dude, the Cyclops would go sky high out of the water when it was first added. LEAP's bugs are very minimal.

The gameplay is really solid, and when the Devs host events, the PvP is actually really enjoyable. And that is coming from someone who traditionally hates PvP in most games. The game has a PvE mode as well, which gets progressively harder as you go on. It gives you new NPC units to fight too, ranging from dudes that have shields, to literal ED-209 looking mechs. Not to mention that the objectives throughout the session constantly change from things like delivery objectives, to survival. All the characters have their quirks, a couple of unique weapons, and fun kits. Plus they all get basically unlimited grappling hooks, which lets you get that Attack on Titan feel, minus the big giants. You can change out the abilities, and the grenades as well. The maps may seem a little massive to some, but you get mounts that can basically just fly off the ground almost as fast as a Harrier. Which there are also quite a few mounts, too.

Last thing I want to talk about is the graphics and looks. Blue Isle is known for pretty games. Valley was pretty and still holds up despite being made in 2016, Slender holds up well too, and so does Citadel. And you can bet that this game is definitely really pretty. Oh man, this game is pretty. The trees, the sky, the buildings, all of it.

All in all, this game doesn't disappoint. My only complaint is that not a lot of people play. The playerbase isn't very active, but this game does have a group of people that like to play this game. There is also a Discord server for this game with all the main people who play. I play a lot of the PvE mode, which does give you XP, that way you can use more things on the characters to use. So you can basically play the game whatever way you want, and then switch over to other modes when you want a change in the gameplay loop. This game is good in its current state, and is worth a grab.

This game needs to be FREE to PLAY or super cheap now. There's no one on PVP at all which is sad because this is a pretty awesome game. (Almost like a 3rd person Titanfall without the mechs.)Cool mobility and gunplay. Great graphics and pretty cool abilities. It just needs players now. Drop it down to $10 or $15 and let's get some people playing this!

This is a slept on game! The game mechanics are great, the feel of character movements are solid, and the ads feels solid. So you gotta pay to buy the game but that helps limit the amount of hacking a game gets. The free BR games are old feeling same old same old. This game is crisp, clean and well developed.

Early Access Review

PvE - Spec Ops
After having beaten every map solo and with groups on bronze and silver difficulty, I must say that the PvE in Leap is a ton of fun. All four of the current classes have unique abilities that offer a good diversity of play styles and allow you to be up close or at great range depending on your play style and the map you're on. Personally, I fell in love with the Tech Ops class after trying out each one for a few hours and decided to make that my main. In order to get most of the unlocks done, plan on dedicating many hours to make notable progress. The Experience reward scaling between bronze, silver, and gold are so similar its honestly not worth pushing the difficulty up unless you're in it just for the challenge. That said, the game is still in early access at this point and the developers have been very receptive to community feedback so the experience earned may scale better on release. I have also noticed that the aim assist for those players wishing to use a controller is not able to be toggled on or off which would be a great addition to the settings before release. I can't count the number of times I was trying to shoot a priority target that was slightly behind and next to where the aim assist was attempting to drag my sights. I KNOW WHAT I AM TRYING TO SHOOT, DON'T TRY AND DECIDE FOR ME. As far as bugs go that are show stopping in PvE, sometimes the NPC will spawn in walls or objects on the field and will become invulnerable to damage. If for some reason they don't reset, its game over. This is a know bug that the devs have told us they're working on so I'm very optimistic that it will not be an issue in the near future.

PvP
It is honestly a bit difficult to judge the PvP in Leap because the current player pool is either brand new or extremely experienced. This makes for extremely unbalanced matches that left me and a few friends who played with me very disappointed. Not to detract from players who have already racked up hundreds of hours in Leap, but a new player trying PvP for the first time getting repeatedly killed by someone who is flying around with a semi auto rocket launcher is not a good representation of how it will feel on live servers for the first several months. After a total of 10 PvP matches that were both dev and community led, I would not recommend playing PvP until release and the servers are populated with a better mix of new and experienced players.

Takeaway
If you are looking for a fast paced shooter, give leap a try. The grapple and movement mechanics mixed with a variety of skills and abilities will provide hours of fun for solo players and small groups. If you enjoy leap, they do have an official discord server that is open for anyone to join https://discord.gg/HhuDRuS6Hk

I don't think most of the reviews try to answer the question: Is LEAP a good game? is it fun to play? That question is what makes me wish Steam had a mixed review option, especially for early access games such as LEAP where the gameplay is actually really fun, but it's riddled with a lot of very valid issues. So, I'm going to be giving this game a negative review, but in the hopes that LEAP gets some very well needed and loving developer support. To quickly summarize the pros for you, the movement in this game is stellar. Graphics are pretty astounding honestly. Gunplay, abilities, and TTK feel different from most other shooters in a way that makes gunfights feel a lot more involved mechanically. The quality of a lot of the gameplay elements feels better than most AAA shooters.

However, LEAP has too many current issues that I think stem a lot from releasing too early. This game is terribly buggy from the technical side in every way (matchmaking issues, partying up issues, black screens, optimization/peformance, balance, load times) down to gameplay bugs (menus getting stuck and not being able to access certain menus when you need to, reviving has strange issues that sometimes prevent you from moving or shooting for a few seconds, respawning can be inconsistent at best, and lots more).

This all adds up to create a gameplay experience that ultimately adds up to: this game is not finished. much more than lots of early access games I've ever played. But, with all that being said, those are all fixable issues. Optimization can be improved with work, bugs can be fixed with time, and the technical side will obviously be improved. The last point that I want to make about LEAP is the longevity of the game. This game could be really good, but for how early it is, I understand why marketing has been limited. I don't understand why they went the pay to play route. I just don't think it's the best move for LEAP in the longterm. This next section will get a bit off topic of the game itself, but I think it's needed to say.

F2P games generally succeed due to word of mouth marketing, because there's no harms for trying any game that is free. Pay to Play games rely a lot on marketing because it's harder to get people in when there is a barrier of entry. This game doesn't have marketing (yet). This game also has to contest with the fact that it's very demanding to run on most hardware, with certain maps even running worse than others, and too much action causes terrible frame drops. There's also an in-game cosmetics shop called the black market, that runs on unlockable in-game currency that you cannot currently pay for. This game could very easily not have a long life because it'll be too hard to convince people to join in. That is a criticism that I think most people would factor in, that I hope will be examined again before this game were to leave early access.
