Jeder der es von damals kennt kannn zugreifen.

Alle die das Game noch nicht kennen (solls geben) Ist dieser Teil immernoch zu empfehlen da es sich in denn anderen Teilen kaum geändert hat

Ich liebe dieses Spiel.

Ich habe es damals permanent durchgesuchtet und wollte es mir nun kaufen.
Nach dem kauf schlug mein Herz höher den je.

Es ist für seine damaligen Verhältnisse immernoch perfekt
und selbstverständlich allen normalsterblichen drecksgames überlegen.

Die Grafik, sowie deren Details sind selbst für 2014 in Sachen 2D noch sehr gut.
Spielgeschehen, Kampagne, Krasser Map Editor, Möglichkeiten...
Alles 10/10.

Dennoch gab es ein Problem.
Nach einiger Zeit bekommt man eine Fehlermeldung die es unmöglich macht dieses Spiel zu spielen.
(Falls man nicht gerade einen relativ älteren Pc hat, so ab XP herum.)
Die x64 Systeme werden diese Meldung bekommen. Besonders mit windows 8.

Die Fehlermeldung taucht auf sobald man in eine Stadt gleich am Anfang eindringt und erscheint laut Berichten an sehr vielen anderen Stellen.

Wer also tatsächlich Geld dafür ausgeben möchte, was ich weiterhin nicht bereue, der muss sich auf eine hart unsoziale penetrierung von Seiten Steam's gefasst machen!

Altes Spiel Nummer XY das ich von Steam kaufte und unbrauchbar ist.

This was an amazing game when it came out over 20 years ago but unfortunately it runs like hot garbage in its current state on the steam store. Apparently there are community made patches that can fix this issue however. That being said if you can get it to work this is an awesome civilization managing game with an engaging story and extremely large sandboxes for each level.

Its a realy good game, just find the patch file online and always start as admin and it should work.
Do not Alt-Tab, this messes the game and you need to restart.
Instead Alt-Enter, this way you will be able to access desktop still.¨
Its an old game but it still plays well

Would not run or crash frequently, I have played older games made available as new from other websites without this issue. Why was this game not patched with compatibility for windows 7 and 10 and resolutions confirmed functioning. Cheap cash grab for a classic without taking the time to make sure the game works correctly.

Very old and enjoyable gameplay similar to Heroes of Might & Magic series. It has a lot of nostalgia elements today because of its simplicity on one side and complexity on the other. It has problems on modern computers to run, so you have to run it with compatibility mode and also apply unofficial fix, to prevent ingame crashes.

This was the only game I really played with my dad before he passed. This game means a lot to me. I enjoy it a lot, but not just because of the nostalgia though, I hope you can enjoy it too it's a lot of fun

So I played Age of Wonders as a punk ass kid in the early 00s, and I love this game! A lot of it is tactics and understanding the mechanics. It is an old game, so many of the streamlining you'd find in new games isn't there, but not to fret. There's a great fan community that has guides and support.

Yes, you will have to install an Unofficial patch for it to run on Windows 10, but once you install it there is no issues, minus the music occasionally going out. But it loads incredibly quick on modern PCs. Here is the patch you'll need to run it on newer versions of Windows-

Now just keep in mind that magic in this game is the cheese, like super bad. Magic takes Age of Wonders out to a nice chicken dinner at a moderately priced restaurant, escorts it to a small bar for a drink, drives it home, kiss it goodnight, and NEVER CALLS IT AGAIN! Magic easily breaks the game if you know what you're doing, but it's still an amazing game.

There is a good and evil story line that branches out through different story lines depending on your choices. No there's no voice acting or cut-scenes, you will need to read about all of it, but seriously it's a great game. One of my all time favorites (#5), lots of different units, each race feels different and special. Interesting ally mechanics, even with the AI being a bit dumb, but it was a product of it's time.

Honestly if you can get over a handful of things, you'll put days into this game. I'm over 200 hours on my GOG account, but once you install the patch it's absolutely no problem playing it on modern PCs.

As a fan of fantasy lore, this game immediately appealed to me when I was younger. I am pretty sure i read almost every unit description out there. When the village I lived in finally got internet, I was actually able to play this. Best time of my life, I even played it during college, through email doing so countless hours. Thank you Truimph studios! for being part of my life!

It is an excellent game and whenever I want to play a turn based strategy game with a fantasy setting, I generally go for the Age of Wonders, HOMM, or Disciples series. This game is AMAZING but it crashes way too much, like every 5-10 minutes. Sometimes I can't even complete a turn in between crashes. I've tried to have patience and keep reloading saves after crashes but the game just crashes too much and this version on Steam is unplayable. It is sad too because this game is a timeless classic like HOMM 3. Hopefully this will get patched or fixed because this awesome game just doesn't work work now.

Without the crashes I rate this game a 9/10 and strongly recommend. In its current state it is a 5/10 and unplayable.

It's good. Love the old game grit and the simple but strategic gameflow. You can play hotseat with a friend and it feels like a board game. We need more 4x games with grand-tactical combat like this

It's my favorite age of wonders to this date. The music, the atmosphere, the writing and the charm... however, steam does a terrible work at bringing back this classic for windows 10.

Constant crashes, freezes and bugs will ruin this experience for you. It's honestly not worth playing like this.
Do not buy it, and if you did, refund it. As much as I love this game, I would have done the same if I could.

This was a beautiful game once, but on modern Windows it's badly broken to the point of unplayability. Even with a fan-made patch for the biggest issue, it remains glitchy in a number of other areas, often to the point that you can't even load up a map to begin gameplay.

If Triumph isn't willing to dedicate the resources necessary to fix the game, they need to either release the source code so that the fan community can do so, or remove the game from Steam. Because right now they are selling a non-playable game under false pretenses.

Looks like it might be fun, even with it being quite old, but it crashes a lot. According to the discussions there are patches for this, but I'm not messing with this, they should only be selling it with the patches already in place, seems to me. Getting a refund.

Haven't been able to run it (Win 10). It crashes when trying to run the campaign or tutorial. But hey, it was practically free, and maybe was a decent game once.

I luv classic games !
even more when its working pretty well under win10 with 1440p 2k monitor 16:9
dont go over 1024 x 768 the sprites become too small for me lol
nice music, no crashes no bugs, very good for a 20 yrs old game!
if you can stand old graphics ( i do ) i highly recommend it !
enjoy ( grab a copy while in sales at 1.62$ )

Here's the thing...

If you're already a fan, be prepared to jump through some hoops to get the Steam version to work. You may even have to return the game if you can't get it to work on your modern PC. It's a pain, but if you've got that itch - it might be worth it.

If you've never played this game, don't bother with this Steam version. I'm not sure how other versions (GOG, etc.) but this one was not worth the hassle to play. Not only do you have to pay for this old game, it is VERY likely you will need to crawl the web to find patches or tweaks to get it to work. After that, you can play the game...maybe. Sometimes it will still continue to crash or have performance & stability issues.

Decent Classic game UI is a lot difficult to handle but you can't expect that much from its time haven't gone through the story that much but seems like basic good vs evil till now

edit : I did not have the patience to play it sry, the diff between it and 2 is staggering i would recommend skipping this one and just starting with 2 (read the story online) but if you do have patience go ahead, the campaign choice based system is refreshing at least

It took me a long time to get it working, just to find that the text is nigh unreadable on a modern screen. I tried to soldier through, but it crashes constantly so I've given up. It's still the great game I played as a kid and I'd love to see a remake, but it'd be easier to find my CD and dust off an old PC than it would be to try and play this on a modern one.

Age of Wonders is a beautiful game. I always feel like it is a less commercially successful but more refined, purer kind of Heroes of Might & Magic. If you like Heroes but haven't tried this game, you may meet your true love yet with this one. Its mechanics are a bit less forgiving than newer Age of Wonders titles but is still a lot of fun to play.

Unlike HoMM, stacks of hundreds or thousands of units aren't a thing in AoW. Each unit produced is just that one unit(you can imagine it like an army unit or whatever) but combat isn't like a stack of 60 gold dragons attack a stack of 1200 peasants and kill 800 of them, it's each individual unit fighting with their stats and hitpoints and awesome interesting abilities and whatnot on a physical hexagonal battlefield, moving, making use of obstacles and terrain and everything. There are lots of other differences of course, but another that I like is instead of different strongholds with different race units and creatures as in HoMM, here we have cities of different races and your leader alignment affects diplomacy and other things in your relation to these races and their alignment, an arrangement I like a lot better. Different races not only have their basic soldiers with slightly different advantages and disadvantages but also have different creatures that can be recruited at different levels similar to HoMM but having the fantasy races so neatly represented feels so much more immersive imo.

There are 12 races to choose from, 4 of neutral, 4 of good and 4 of evil alignment.

Neutral races:Humans, Azracs, Lizard Men, Frostlings
Good races:Elves, Halflings, Dwarves, High Men
Evil races:Dark Elves, Orcs, Goblins, the Undead

Of these, Humans, Elves, Halflings, Dwarves, Dark Elves, Orcs, Goblins and the Undead are classic fantasy races and their units, creatures and theme will be what you'd expect, the others are(afaik) Age of Wonders original races.
Azracs are sort of desert humans, with hints of Arab, Egyptian, Zoroastrian, Persian and Indian themes and powerful magical creatures at their side. Lizard Men are well, lizard men with most units having the ability to swim which opens up the movement options in world map immensely. Frostlings are short and sturdy survivors of frozen lands with cold and freezing related skills. High Men are like Humans that haven't fallen from grace, that are pure good and heavenly, sort of like an angelic saintly human race with lots of healing and clerical abilities.

Your leader's race will determine your starting town/city's race, but on the world map you may not only conquer other cities with populations of different races but also have cities with a different race but similar alignment to yours join you for some gold. You can then have different units produced from the conquered cities' race in your armies but if you are evil and have conquered a good town, if you produce units from their race, they will cause discontent in your armies and will likely rebel and either desert or attack your armies afterwards. What you can do instead is raze or loot that town or migrate a race of which you have some population of from another town into that town. Such actions will affect your relation with that race. For instance if you are an elf(a good race) and keep migrating other races into halfling(also good) cities you conquer or worse yet loot or raze those Halfling cities, Halfling race which was due to same alignment were friendly towards you will become neutral and later hostile to your kingdom and will no longer accept joining your armies or kingdom voluntarily. Conversely, as a human(neutral race), when you encounter an orc(evil) city, they won't join you for gold, but after you conquer them they'll not rebel and will serve in your armies with reluctance but without rebelling. This is because they are indifferent to you because you are neutral, they would rebel against a good conqueror and cause trouble in their armies. However if you keep building walls in orc cities you conquer and migrate orcs into other new cities you conquer, perhaps worsening your relation with other races, they will become friendly towards you and may later join your kingdom for gold voluntarily.

Never before a game of constant systematic genocide, forced migration and race cleansing present itself in such a peaceful and pastoral way. 10/10, would recommend. (I may have only 40 hours on Steam but actually have played hundreds of hours since its actual release in 1999)

I got the game cause it was one of the first pc games that I played growing up, and I thought I would enjoy it. I'm not sure how it works on everyone else's computer but i'm running windows 10 on a Gaming Laptop and the game always crashes within 5 to 10 turns. Not sure if there is a patch or something out there for it.

In my ongoing and likely futile effort to write a Steam review for every game in my library (#242 out of 558)... it's time for Age of Wonders.

Age of Wonders was one hell of a game back in the day. In many respects, it hasn't aged well--but it's still very much worth revisiting. Just not on Steam (thank God for GOG!). The whole thing is an unstable mess, and only runs very inconsistently on my Windows 10 x64 machine. Most of the time I can't get the game to run regardless of compatibility settings; when I can get the game to run, memory errors and resolution issues abound.

Best AoW game. Good race variety. Create your leader, divide and conquer, remove kebabs, collect naked big tittу nymphs and thicc earth elementals. No other AoW game has this kind of charm.

You don't need to look for widescreen patches. Windowed mode stretches to pretty much any resolution you want, i played in 4k resolution. All it needs is better interface and working multiplayer.

IMPORTANT COMPATIBILITY INFO

If you are playing this game on Windows 10 (and maybe other recent versions too, but haven't tested) it WILL consistenly crash every few turns. You'll see most of the negative reviews are about this issue.

HOWEVER! A good samaritan has created an unofficial patch that completely fixes the problem. You can get it here. Make sure you download the zip with the exe, not the source code. It should find the folder automatically for you, just press the button and you're good to go. If it doesn't you can always look for it manually.

There are many other detailed positive reviews here so I won't say more about the game itself, just know that it is an absolute classic and IMO one of the most unique and enjoyable games I've ever played.

tl;dr Yes, but with a warning below.

Age of Wonders, despite the age, is still a worthwhile game. It can appear deceptively simple at first, but as you begin to chip away at the abilities and magic system, you realise just how important deeper knowledge of the game mechanics can be.

A lot of the game has been covered by other reviewers. Essentially: turn based fantasy strategy game with empire management. Unlike the sequels - and many other games of its type - in Age of Wonders if your leader dies, you lose the game. This adds an extra layer of risk - your leader is powerful and can take down many basic units, but one wrong move and the game's over. It can sound cheap, but it really puts the stress on in major battles, something other strategy games miss out on. There is an option to remove this for the skirmishes, if you're not keen on it.

THE WARNING: this game, as it sits on Steam, is faulty. It crashes a lot - A LOT. Some people are fine, but looking at the reviews and the forums, it's wide spread enough for it to be an issue. You can fix this with a Hex editor. Now, I know some basic fixes are acceptable, but having to use a hex editor to fix the game is not. I imagine a lot of people out there don't know what a hex editor is, or how to even use one. Furthermore, I don't see any reason why this can't be done on the developers end - it took me two minutes, and would save everyone else a lot of headache.

I very nearly put this as a thumbs down, but the cheap price, brilliant gameplay, and the fact that a fix is available - courtesy of the fan base (which, by the way, provide more maps and content than you'll ever manage to get through), I really can't bring myself to do it.
