The Whispered World verbleibt bei mir mit gemischten Gefühlen in Erinnerung.

Tolle Sprecher, melancholisch schöner Soundtrack, skurrile Charaktere...

The Whispered World Special Edition.

The Whispered World Special Edition.
2014 came out and now it has brought me 2 hours of boredom. Apart from the sound that is really good, this game is just boring, but this at a high level.
The so-called riddles, in my opinion, are badly designed to steal playtime for the sole purpose of doing so. You have to show some of them in the net to solve them. The playable start picture I've done this to me, very reluctant.
When the second picture arrived, I thought it would be better, but ..... The first job I should do was called very important .... and I should fish a fish, really?
Then I turned it off and now put this alleged game in the wastebasket where I think it belongs. As you probably guessed, I do not recommend it.
I would recommend it to your children, but I do not, because I do not want them to the constantly depressed behavior of the protagonist and his always silly companion exposed..
I am puzzling how the many hurrahs have come about? in advertising stands. An unforgettable and epic story. ??? If you believe that, believe in the rattling stork ..... with greetings

The Whispered World – A Dispiriting Disappointment

This enchanting game brims with cleverly executed counter-intuitive solutions, which is very typical of Daedelic. The player must learn to pay attention to the dialogues and to talk to characters often, as nearly everything they say hints at how one has to proceed next. Sadly, that is not the case for many obstacles in the game, especially at its later stages. The player is oftentimes forced to click every on single object or to combine items with anything available. This design proves quite frustrating and tiresome, especially without any external help. It is precisely game design like that, which discourages many potential players from giving the point-and-click genre a shot.

The in-game world is quite beguiling. It introduces a whole array of colourful places or mystical beings and yet… the world-building feels underwhelming. You see, there are many random words thrown around without any additional explanation or even a description. Because The Whispering World revolves around experiencing a story in a fantasy world, the shallow presentation of its fantasy elements are an unforgivable shortcoming.

As for the inhabitants of this dreamy world, the main character, Sadwick, speaks with a horrendously high-pitched lisp, which is supposed to emphasise his child-like nature. Not only is his voice entirely unconvincing in that regard, but it is also most unnerving to listen to. Sadwick has a penchant for utterances pertaining to awkward adult humour, which is unbefitting for someone of his age. It is not only odd – it is downright impossible for a child to come up with such thoughts.

Alas, the story fared only a little better. It is unremarkable and lacking in depth. It fails to create suspense other than that of wondering how the story will end… and the end is an anticlimactic cliché. There are some very emotional moments, yet they are cut short and pitifully animated; thus, they fail to leave an impact. The finale, for example, has the potential to induce very strong feelings, yet the game completely disappoints even at this most pivotal moment.

In conclusion, this game is a bizarreness which is not worth the eighteen euros.

Note: Finished in 9 hours of gameplay.

In general:
A classic adventure game with beautiful graphics and fairy tale atmosphere. Game mechanics are nice and innovative in a way (Spot’s transformations). The game isn’t overall that hard – there are several not-so-difficult minigames there and player can usually find a solution to various puzzles soon enough.

Pluses:
+ beautiful hand-crafted graphics
+ great voice acting
+ interesting game mechanics (Spot)

Neutral:
+- it is a fairy tale – don’t expect anything too meaningful (although the end is quite touching)

Minuses:
- main protagonist grows to be really annoying
- some puzzles don’t make much sence (like
milking a cow to get oil
)

The Whispered World is a nicely drawn and comical game that brings it all back to a touching and deeply meaningful ending. The interactions contain unique and humorous exchanges. This benefits the person who enjoys all of the details of a game/story. If you take your time, it is about a 5 hour game, but you could probably get through it in about 3 hours.

The game play is enjoyable, but there is a lot of recovering already trekked ground. None of it feels needless as long as you are invested into the story. There are many illogical interactions along the way as well, but it is also not without its reasons, which become clear as you progress.

The animations and voice fit the story and feeling of the game perfectly. The work invested in the game included a lot of heart.

Overall, The Whispered World is a fantastic game that is worth playing for those looking for a fun and cute story with a nice emotional twist.

Right up front: I hate this game. I can't imagine why it has mostly positive ratings. I tend to enjoy point-and-click adventure games, but I have a love-hate relationship with Daedalic products. At their best (Night of the Rabbit, Memoria) they have well crafted interesting stories and the puzzles are logical for the most part. This one, though, suffers from Daedalic at it's worst; the puzzles make absolutely no sense and the game gives you zero clues as to what to do next. You go from screen to screen picking up random items, and sometimes the game gives you clues as to what to do with them, but most often it doesn't. Even worse, there's absolutely no logic to some of the puzzle solutions. Only 2 hours or so in and I have no idea what to do at each puzzle. I've resorted to randomly combining items in inventory, and when they successfully combine, there's no reason I can fathom as to why they did, or what I'm supposed to use the resulting item on. I resorted to following a walkthrough, and when I got to the 4th puzzle whose solution made no logical sense and that I would never have even randomly stumbled on the solution, I realized I was never going to finish this game on my own. I don't have time to be angry at a game, I play games to relax, and I haven't felt any relaxation playing this. uninstalled.

Although I love Daedalic's games, I have to admit that this specific one is a mess for me....
Except the nice sceneries and character design, the rest of it was a weird combination between slow-paced story/dialogs , Illogical puzzles ( not all of them - thank god ) that missed important informations and clues on how to solve them and point n click, n click again and again adventure (clicks x3).. Seriously the controls were insanefully nerve breaking! Oh, and dont forget the window mode - the game just wont go fullscreen whatever you re gonna try... Which now that I think of it , it may be a good thing , since you will need an open guide on the side of your screen to complete some parts. As for the story, I constantly felt unfulfilled and sad:(

It so happened that I played this game after I played the sequel. Well, was I in for a lot of disappointment...

Firstly, let's talk about the pros. The imagery and the atmosphere in the game is great. The world is immersive and rich, many characters are quite memorable, and the dialogs have been well-written, although from time to time somewhat drawn out. The same can be said about the story, with a nice twist at the end. I've seen complaints about the main character who constantly whines about everything, but I can accept that especially since there does become less of it to the end.

Why wouldn't I recommend this game then? The gameplay. Puzzles which require moving around chess pieces or tiles are totally fine. However, for the most part of the game you have to collect absolutely random items and then guess a compltely inane method of assembling them into something that helps you advance with almost no hints whatsoever. They are so illogical, the most sure way to solve many of them is just randomly combine items then click with the result on everything you see. At first I thought it's me being stupid although I usually don't get stuck in quests, but apparently I'm not alone in this case.

Not without bugs too. The most annoying one was when the screen gets stuck and doesn't move with the hero. Happens only in some locations, so it's frustrating when it happens. Also had one crash, but that's not too bad. No support for widescreen either, which is something you'd expect from a special edition.

Overall, if you like the story and the world, you can grab this game and finish with a guide, sure. But for others I'd rather suggest playing the sequel.

Mixed. I quickly gave up trying to figure out many puzzles and relied on a guide. Decades ago I would have had the patience to try more. Still, I was entertained by the story and dialog, made all the better by the sequel, Silence.

I've never liked a character's inability or unwillingness to do anything so much. This game is not afraid to tell you well that would make sense to do but I dont want to. No this is not a sarcastic review i actually enjoyed the fact they put me in the shoes of a not so typical character and made me think what would the character do instead of what I would do. This game also likes to tug your emotions the further you get into it. You will laugh, you will feel sad, you will groan(out of disbelief) and probably find your hand on your fore head a couple of times

The Whispered World is a nice little story, it's not the best the genre has to offer and certainly not the worst; it exists in a happy medium.

Story - The story follows Sadwick a circus jester who gets burdened with the task of saving the world from certain doom. Cliche? Yes. And while it maintains that cliche through a majority of the game, towards the end it starts delivering some unexpected emotional moments, a very nice but welcome surprise. Where the games story really shines is the humor, most of the characters, Sadwick in particular, have a dry sarcasm to them that is definitely my speed, it comes off as whiny at first, but as you progress it's what carries the game.

Sound - Very nice soundtrack, no complaints from me. The voice acting is a bit rough but as time goes on it definitely grows on you. Some characters are definite hit (Sadwick) or misses (the Whispering Stone).

Gameplay - Standard point and click fare, it doesn't reinvent the wheel. I will say the screen can get a bit cluttered in your inventory and during some screens with many points of interaction. The puzzles are not very hard save for 1 or 2 (Chess) and a few item combinations to progress are downright logic defying.

Graphics - The art style is serviceable and definitely shows it's age especially when it comes to the cutscenes. The backgrounds and environments on the other hand are beautiful and definitely hold up.

Rating 6/10 - Definitely recommended for people who enjoy Point & Click games.

Others have commented on the (English) voice acting and I note they were not kidding: although admittedly the by me unforeseen ending puts an interesting spin on things, whininess and all, I never got used to it. Worse though is that it is also just not a very good adventure game otherwise. Puzzle-logic often defies exactly that and most specifically does not tend to provide for satisfaction: the game often enough puts artificial obstacle after artifical obstacle to leave one at the end of some of them with a feeling of relief at best.

And specifically that is reflected in my massive 50+ hour in-game time. Although I've played it through once more for the missed achievements, my first playthrough was already at 40+ hours in-game time. In-game time as in definitely not play-time, with me at some point switching away to the desktop after basically every action, having grown so tired of it that I could hardly stand the game anymore.

The ending did make up for a few things I felt and my second playthrough was in both that and the then known puzzle-logic sense much more enjoyable. And in any case, should you encounter this at e.g. the current € 1.99 sale price, go right ahead, and especially if you aim to also get Silence, the sequel. But I'd not say this were a top-notch adventure game in and of itself, not even for its age.

The Whispered World is another fun point-and-click game by Daedalic Entertainment.

To solve the puzzles you often have to think outside the box. It's not everyone's cup of tea, but it's definitely mine.
The story is fantastic and the artwork looks amazing.

Even though the story is fine and the artwork is just beautiful, the game is full of absurd puzzles that cannot be figured out by sole creative or even ridiculous thinking. After a point it makes you start trying every object with one another which is very annoying. From the 2nd hour, I got used to the awkwardness of the puzzles but I lost my excitement anyway and I kept on playing just to see the ending. I really respect anyone, if there really is anyone, who finishes the game without the help of a walkthrough.

One of the best daedalic games. i played it a long time ago, wasnt really a fan . when i recently started playing silence , i only then realised it was a sequel( -ish). so i replayed this one again. this time in german with english subtitles, which i think is the best way to do it. some of the jokes and timing make more sense this way . some of the puzzles are still a bit lateral for me, but the character design is thoroughly enjoyable and the story powerful. as far as noughtiess point n click adventure revival games go, this is a very polished title. 9/10

It only took about 10 minutes before I turned 'speech volume' to zero to escape Sadwick's creepy and annoying voice. I really cannot begin to articulate how appalling the voice choice was. After the tutorial, I stopped the game and googled to see if this might change (like how the protagonist of Farcry 3 is purposefully grating in the beginning)… No… We’re stuck with this apparently.

I considered continuing without the voices, but… Point and Hold… Why? Why? Why have you done this? Why?

Beautifully animated with excellent voice acting. I could not get into the story, however, which made playing a chore. Moving on to something else.

I don't know if I've ever written a review, but this game is so frustrating. I love point-and-click games and I've played them for 20 years. I've tried to play this game on multiple occasions and it is just so hard to get into. The click-and-hold action is really frustrating and non-intuitive. The puzzles are okay, but insightfulness is useless here. Unfortunately I can't even review the entire game as my playthrough ended when I hit a game breaking bug regarding a cogwheel. On the positive, I paid near nothing for this game so I didn't lose much.

I like point and click games and figuring out how to solve puzzles using the clues. Clues in this game are not always clear and involved a lot of trial and error. Also, this Steam version of the game crashed on me a few times. On a personal note, I did not find the main character likeable.

This game is one of the best adventure games that I've ever played. Fantastic story with humour and great puzzles hidden between the dialogues. Every item in the game has a purpose and that purpose is the solution. There are a few puzzles or action that looks illogical but it does not effect the overall score of the game. I will give it 9 out of 10. Must have... Dont miss it. Thanks once again.

What a pleasant surprise! This is a very nice and thrilling point & click adventure game where you play as Sadwick, an unusually sad clown. In his shoes you must do nothing less then save the world...or maybe destroy it. The story is well-written and engaging throughout the whole game and you will meet many interesting characters on your journey. Sadwick has a pet sidekick named Spot that can switch between five different body forms and those let you make special interactions with the environment. Speaking of the environment, they are beautifully drawn and very nice to look at. Overall, I must say The Whispered World was an awesome experience and I can't wait to get my hands on more stuff from Daedalic.

Advantages
- Visuals and animation

Disadvantages
- Game breaking bug (I found a save file so didn't lose much time but still very annoying)
- Very boring
- Horrible voice acting
- Annoying main character
- Ridiculous and non-logical puzzles
- Story is not interesting at all

I love P&C adventure games, and love Daedalic's other games but I cannot recommend this game at all. It has all the sins that a decent P&C game shouldn't have

The Whispered World is a Point & Click adventure game where you play as a chronically depressed clown named Sadwick as he goes on a fantastical adventure to fulfill his destiny. I played using a mouse and keyboard (mostly mouse, used Keyboard's 'Enter' for the dialogue because my mouse is hyperactive with clicking) and beat the game in about 14 hours. Depending on how much you love getting stuck, it could take longer. Difficulty is medium.

Good points

- The art in the game is grand. All the painted scenery pieces really do pull you into a fantasy setting.

- The music is just as good if not better than the art, for the exact same reasons. Felt like I was living an oldschool Hobbit or Narnia adventure with music like that.

- The puzzles are a little challenging yet straight forward (except for that blasted planet one), and the characters are all colorful and different.

- The control scheme was easy to grasp and get use to.

Bad points

- Sadwick the sad clown, not too surprisingly, is a downer. Both my father (who I got the game for) and I had a really hard time getting past the very first camp area. Not because it was hard, but because the main character brought us down with his excessive 'why bother?' attitude. I play games to escape from the world, and this was terrible on an empathetic standpoint. His mood improves with the more people he encounters, but he goes from depressive to sardonically mean later in.

- All of the characters in the game are extremely long-winded. Since there isn't much to a standard Point&Click adventure game, it isn't too surprising that fluff is added. It's just that the dialogue coupled with their voice talents drawl on never-endingly all the time. 3/4ths of the game is listening to Sadwick whine or characters babble on about unimportant things.

- There are widely reported bugs. Personally, I never had my items disappear where they weren't supposed to (like the start of every chapter) and I never experienced the 'gear' bug in chapter 3, so I don't speak for everyone else. But my mouse refused to click on the astonomer and the stuff surrounding him in chapter 4. Found this was due to full screen mode. At the beginning, Sadwick's dialogue also sort of clipped into itself per sentence. However, I never had the game crash on me or experienced anything truly game-breaking.

- the random commentary in the upper corner seems weirdly tacked on and out of place, and contains spoilers.

In summary, I almost gave this game a thumbs down (and likely would have if I experienced one of the bugs others are reporting). Some aspects like the art and music are pretty, but it hasn't held up the best in all these years. It's also loquacious to the point of feeling boring at times, and the main character was a bummer from beginning to end. He knows his life sucks, everyone in the game judges him and talks down on him, and this never gets better. That said, there are better Point&Click games out there. The Whispering World gets a thumbs up, but if I could give it a thumbs sideways or a meh I could.

It was a fun point and click adventure. I enjoyed myself while I played it, I got more that 3 or 4 hours of gameplay out of it which is great for this kind of game. I grew very attached to that dumb caterpillar Spot. I didn't enjoy the ending, I won't lie, I stayed up real late playing it and then I raged quietly in bed all by myself trying not to wake my fiance and child, however it didn't annoy me enough not to recommend the game. It's definitely worth a play if you're into the genre. I just found the ending unsatisfying after all the lore and build up to it. But I really enjoyed myself right up to the end.

The Whispered World was nice. It takes a minute to warm up to the voices, but by the end you're charmed by the main character. Some of the puzzles and solutions truly are a little bizarre with controls that can border on finicky, but others have a nice flow to them and you adjust quickly to the games requirements. If you enjoy fantasy, point-and-click, and puzzles, you'll likely have a good time with The Whispered World. And if you're still on the fence, wait for it to go on sale or find a bundle that includes it.

Honestly, one of the most story-rich games I’ve ever played. I was a little late to the game, having started with Silence, which I loved so much, and finding out it was a SEQUEL. I had to play the original right away and I have to say, I’m not disappointed. While much harder and much longer than it’s sequel, it definitely isn’t a negative, the game is like a good book you can’t put down, you have to get to the next chapter. It’s beautifully designed and definitely worth the play-through for the tear jerking end. Hands down one of my favorite game series, next to LIS, Kingdom Hearts, Beyond Two Souls, Night In The Woods and Oxenfree. If any of those games hit home for you, then this is definitely the game for you.

Has a glitch mentioned on here in 2014! A necessary cog disappears effectively preventing you from completing a game on which you've wasted hours ! Have notified Steam support and hope that they will stop selling this faulty game. The whiny voice was irritating enough in itself.
