Doom3 in der BFG Version ist für mich ein geniales Spiel.

Super Grafik (siehe Anmerkung unten), und eine tolle Mischung von 'Geballer' und auch etwas Horror.

Der Preis ist sehr gut wie ich finde und die Anforderungen des Spiels sind moderat. In Relation dazu ist das Gebotene absolut toll und verlangt auch von einem Mittelklasse-PC der schon ein paar Jahre auf dem Buckel hat nicht unbedingt Investition in eine aktuelle Grafikkarte. Welche ja aktuell recht teuer sind.

Die beiden Mitgaben der älteren Spiele sind nett, aber die habe ich schon derartig oft gespielt, dass sie mich nicht mehr so sehr reizen. Aber für jemand, der auch die Spiele der alten Zeit kennenlernen will ist das vielleicht nicht schlecht.

Nun kurz zur Grafik: Ich nutze für D3BFG die RB Mod, zu finden z.B. bei moddb. Die peppt die Grafik noch ein weiteres Stück auf und behebt auch das etwas nervige Taschenlampen-Problem.

Also kurz und gut: Ich kann es guten Gewissens empfehlen. Achja, durch die RB Mod bedingt werden hier momentan nur 12,7h Spielzeit angezeigt aber es sind sicher ..zig Stunden Spielespaß bisher

Finished on Nightmare

Well:

- simplified lightning
- hilariously excessive amount of ammo and health pickups
- some enemy encounters were removed
- worse graphics
- less mod support
- some audio effects are mixed badly
- freezes while saving
- unskippable cutscenes
- muzzle flashes no longer create light sources

Mounted flashlight cuts off big pile of horror from this game

Keep in mind this is bad first person shooter it's more like survival horror game with weak protagonist

If you want definitive Doom 3 horror experience - play the original game with Redux 2.0 mod

If you want more action packed first person shooter with infinite ammo - play Doom 3 BFG

Edit: I found mods which fix everything wrong with BFG Edition and this is the best way to play Doom 3 lol

DOOM 3 BFG: edition, Is riddled with problems and I will only review DOOM 3 + expansion for this review:

PROS: The price on sale is fantastic. You get classic DOOM l & ll with remastered DOOM 3 + Resurrection of Evil all in one file. It's compatible with an Xbox controller and the game controls are smooth with either gamepad or a keyboard & mouse.

CONS: This port is ASS! To launch the game I had to find on Steam forum a display code ( +set r_DisplayDeviceID 0 ) to run the game under properties, otherwise it wouldn't even launch. Playing this on my laptop connected to my external display ( TV ) would also not launch the game. The game has awful gamma, meaning I had to have my gamma ratio on max + keep my flash-light on, 100% of the time to see anything. With so many dialog's & PDA's having audio logs, the game doesn't have subtitles and that was really annoying, because many places had plenty of loud noises making me turning up the volume really high to hear anything properly all the while some invisible monsters from far were moaning or pipes were banging. For some reason achievements don't work properly. By that I mean that I got 6 random achievements but for at least 15 other times the game said that my console was offline ( but the whole time I was connected to my wi-fi with a good signal ). The Mars levels ( 95% of the game ) were visually blend.

CONCLUSION: Even if DOOM 3 was the game that introduced me to DOOM franchise all those years back when it first launched, I don't really feel nostalgic playing it again. DOOM 64 remaster, is way better in both action & horror, compared to DOOM 3. The story of DOOM 64 had more to do with the continuation of DOOM ll then DOOM 3 does. And my last note is that everything about the game is mediocre at best: the cliffhanger ending's; story; soundtrack; visuals; action; horror and the expansion.

Have only played Doom and Doom II thus far, however it's great being able to play this as an adult and conquer levels that destroyed me when I was 8 year old kid!

My favorite Doom by far. In fact, THIS is what Doom is for me. One of the best sci-fi action/horror ever. Resurrection of Evil and The Lost Mission are great expansions to this masterpiece. Playing the game on Nightmare enhances the experience even further. I just can't get into the new Dooms. Where is the horror? Where are the terrifying shadows and creepy sounds? Where is the feeling of isolation and despair? I just wish we could have a sequel to THIS doom.

When Doom 3 got the Half Life treatment.

If you remember playing this when it came out, you remember no flashlight while using weapons. This remaster is pretty awesome and reminds of the giant leap Doom took towards being a game with an actual story behind it. It's clearly Half Life inspired and that just makes it better.

Still one of the best all time games despite the ageing graphics. Melding of horror and first person shooter is well done (I personally prefer it over the more recent Doom games). Challenging, especially if you want to unlock nightmare mode. If you want one of the classics, you will find it in this game.

Although not as good as DOOM 1 & 2, it's still a good game nonetheless. What works with this game is you can feel the atmosphere and how dark this game can be at times. Negative about this game is Shotgun itself is crap. Getting 100% on everything is never easy. Making mistakes alot is never a good thing. And last but not least Cacodemon design for this is not good either. Positive about this game is reading and watching video logs. Using different weapons for this is really cool. Enemies look really awesome (minus some of them are bleh). And the game is hard, but also fair and I like it.

Overall I give this game at least 7/10. Still a good game, just cannot hype to itself like 1 & 2 for example.

graphically improved doom 3, with both DLCs, if you don't mind losing some of the more horror-focused elements that original doom 3 had.

Despite the amount of flak that Doom 3 gets for being a story-driven horror-shooter instead of a run-and-gun FPS like the initial two installments, it is a solid game that stands alone in the Doom franchise. The story in Doom 3 is leagues better than what was presented in the Doom novels in the 90s, the gameplay is significantly more challenging (even on lower difficulties), and the ambient audio is quite haunting (though not as much as the original Dead Space's was).

The main gripe for Doom 3 is the relative uselessness of the shotgun compared to previous installments. It should be one of the best weapons throughout the UAC Mars base, with its narrow corridors and relatively short engagement ranges. Instead, you have a weapon that's only useful at five meters or less because the pellet spread is horrendous for anything other than point-blank shots. Sure, this was likely intended so that the machine gun had its place, but even had the shotgun been effective out to a moderate distance, the machine gun is a great ranged weapon and a great inclusion into the classic arsenal.

If you want Doom with a storyline that's more than an afterthought to explain the setting and don't really care about multiplayer? Doom 3 is certainly worth it. Loved it during its original release in the 2000s, loving it again in 2021.

this is not pay to win also has three diffrent games in it sadly not DOOM 64 but besides that this is pretty great

Man o man had I forgotten how great games really are to play. Like honestly. I recently bought a new computer since my old laptop was on its very last legs and I decided to boot up a game I have been dying to play for many many years but never really got around to play, and that game my friends is Doom 3. Given that I have only played for a couple of hours, but it's already a masterpiece. The A.I. isn't the brightest with some zombies side-stepping, but that's alright, the game was made so many years ago, and knowing that I am cool with it.

The greatest thing about this game is that it gives me the feeling that this game was actually made for me. By that I mean every game made after 2012 has been an open world, let's just run around and collect things. This game is as if though someone actually sat down, and thought, well, someone is going to play this game, how can I put in my best effort to make them feel all these emotions.

The short time that I had with this game, invokes so many feelings. It's creepy, it's eerie, it's a little bit frightening and I love that. The graphics are wonderful and the enemies are tough to beat, you aren't overpowering them easily, they put up a resistance and come at you from all angles in those narrow corridors, and I'm just loving it. Every second of it. It's fun. it's engaging and it gives me satisfaction to fight the frightening enemies. The sound is spot on, and the com-radios communicating what's going on just adds fuel to the fire, people are dying at mars and it's a hell hole going from bad to worse every minute, it's somewhere I don't want to be, I feel like I need to get off the planet as soon as possible, but how?

The game was made for me, get it, I feel those things, it's not a fetch quest, it's not, do A to get B to do C, it's about me and me engaging in getting out, FAST! Fantastic.

That's about as far as I can go regarding this game, and it should be played. I don't how if there are new mechanics or if the game gets repetitive since I haven't played long enough, but so far a couple of hours in it's simply amazing!

I finally finished this and killed the final boss it took me 26 hours, There is no way I would ever play this again., and I am glad I got it on a deep sale. If you enjoy being constantly attacked from behind and saving your game every 30 seconds, then this is the game for you. Knock Yourself out ! They could have easily cut about 10 hours out of this, because it is just a very long rat maze, and everything looks the same the whole way through. Nice looking demons though :)

Nope. idk for some reason the doom 1 and 2 versions are obsolete and outdated and there's no wide screen support idk those black bars are annoying me for doom 1 and 2. DOOM 3 is a DOOM game for those who don't really like the format of traditional DOOM.

Let me start by saying that I enjoy this game for reasons unlike any other game in the DOOM franchise, so don't buy if you're looking for an extension of DOOM I/II/64 or the reboots.

It's less run-'n-gun, more scoot-'n-shoot. Slower, spookier, literally darker (get used to the draining flashlight mechanic - there's no way around it). Hallways and walkways are more narrow/less open, which can be tedious at times (however this interpretation of Hell is really neat in a way that it's not over the top like DOOM 2016 or Eternal). The voice acting is... there. Nothing spectacular. Weapons are what you'd expect from the original DOOM's. Do not expect quick-switching between weapons.

Honestly, DOOM 3 shares more in common with Half-Life than DOOM. Similar set-up, similar plot line. Resurrection of Evil even has a gravity gun! But as long as you're okay with not playing a DOOMish game, it's pretty decent.

Somehow, Doom I and II are a lot better than Doom 3. Whose idea was it to implement reloading? Still kind of fun I guess. 7/10

Doom 3: BFG Edition is good because it has doom 1 and 2 on it. Doom 3 is probably one of my least favorite doom games but once again, since it has 1 and 2 i would like it. I bought the doom bundle (all of the games) when it was 34 dollars so i was happy as a clam. My opinion on doom 3 shouldnt define what you think. If this goes on sale i would highly recommend it.

The Doom 3 BFG Edition combines all games in the series and also promises a number of visual and content innovations compared to Doom 3.

Reason enough to venture back to Mars and its moons, to walk through gloomy corridors and send heaps of hell monsters back into the abyss.

But I don't think the new edition is as great as it was back then, even if the Doom 3 BFG Edition contains Doom and Doom 2 as well as the add-on Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil and the completely new chapter Lost Mission.

It is and remains one of the classics that I like to play from time to time.

If you have already (played) Doom 3, you can leave it at that. The BFG Edition is somehow not a real asset.

Buy the original while you still can!
Here's why:
- Muzzle flashes no longer create light sources. (That's a big no-no, it completely ruins the gameplay experience!!!)
- Handheld flashlight cleverly replaced with a new mounted one. (Timed and off-centered!)
- No more zoom. (Nothing game breaking here but I used to assign it to the right mouse button and had some fun with it!)
- Some scripted events, enemy encounters and arcade mini games-within-a-game removed. (???)
- Resurrection of Evil's enviro-suit level lacking cutscenes and gameplay-wise altered...

Only one man can stand between hell and earth. That man as a marine is you and you go into nightmarish ride to figure it out what went wrong on Mars expedition site.
At first you progress slowly and see the glimpses of what you capable to do. Not far beyond you become a killing machine with many guns like double shootgun or BFG. Claustrophobic areas and dark rooms with devils inside only wished they can escape your wrath of humanity.
This one is controvercial game as if not everyone liked it to much but for what they did with a game and setting and atmosphere I think they nailed it.
Always remember nightmarish devils are not hunting you but you hunting them.

One of my favorites Doom. This one mix the shooter genre with survival horror, making it the most terrifying Doom up to this date.

The story is well writen and you will find a lot of interesting information on the PDAs that you collect across the game.

The HD version turns up the brightness, so it makes the game a little less scary.

Overall, a different kind of Doom more focus on survival horror. Excellent for survival horror fanatics.

I've been playing a lot of dated games as of late and this one is not exception .. id Software decided to take a different approach to the Doom franchise and attempted to make a game less trigger happy and more cerebral. As such, it is dripping with atmosphere. No music, just grunts and ambient sounds. Coupled with an always dying flashlight, you must explore a base on Mars that is inhabited by demons and other foul things. The graphics are so so according to today's standards but the game is fun. Just don't expect the usual Doom experience. Nonetheless, recommended!

Doom 3 is a horror-action-ego-shooter in which you are a marine soldier in a station on mars, which is attacked by demons. Your main goal is to stop the monsters and somehow survive. Doom 3 is a slightly older game but it's still a very exciting game, which also has a lot of horror in it. Furthermore the story is also thrilling. I think Doom 3 is a masterpiece that is older and the graphics are not the best, but it's still a very exciting horror game that is quiet enjoyable and also very insidious. I recommend this game to everyone who is in the mood for horror and wants to take a look at the older graphics. I wish you a lot of fun. :D

This is not a terrible game, it's just not a DooM game - reloads, oxygen timers, fall damage, stamina, sneaking around, every enemy is a bullet sponge. The title screen music is a bop though

Was bugging the hell out of me that it felt like you moved quicker than the OG game, so while messing around with the files to attempt modding the game, I found that the players walk and sprint speed is increased. There's some other tweaks and increases, but yeah. Just so anybody else is feeling the same way, you're not going nuts.

It's a really fun game. The remastered graphics on Doom 3 are superb, and the game is such good value, because you get Doom Classic, Doom II, Doom 3 and the bonus missions for Doom 3. I would definitely give this game a 4.5 out 5.

It' was a good looking game back in 2004 and still is today, really shows how shadows have a huge impact on presentation making this game tremendously atmospheric, it's a game that might be polarizing for Doom fans for it's survivor horror approach, give it a go when it's sale! I totally recommend it

Definetly the worst DOOM game, but still a pretty nice game, more of a sequal to the original half life or system shock 2 than a DOOM game. its pretty atmospheric and has that old sort of feel of an old xbox game, so i liked it.

Broken out of the box. The game immediately crashes after playing a poorly edited introduction about the UAC. Since it doesn't work, it gets an automatic negative review.

Because the introduction is the only thing I was able to witness, then I'll review that. It doesn't leave me with high hopes that I'd have enjoyed this game. It has been changed for the sake of change. Gone is the ominous background music, gone is the video distortion effects that create a very eerie and creepy ambience. They've even recorded horrible font/lettering sound effects over the intro for no reason.

After seeing reviews regarding ammo, the flashlight changes and other game-play tweaks I get the feeling this is an edition no-one asked for. It's a shame the original version is no longer available.

I first saw DOOM 3 when my friend ran the leaked copy way back when. While my time played may say otherwise, I have gone on to play and complete DOOM 3 in most of its iterations. Xbox original, 360 BFG, PS4 BFG. It is a great game that has only gotten better through the work of its awesome community. Mod it, speedrun it, slowrun it, whatever you want.

Doom 3 is not Doom, and once you get that, you can appriciate it for what it is, and not bash it for what it isn't. The game's spectacularly well built, no doubt about that. If the idea of a horror shooter even sounds vaguely appealing, this is it.

What a fantastic classic FPS game.

Great atmosphere and level design, simple story, good weapons and game mechanics. No weapon upgrades, on secondary skills and all that bollocks. Slay all the demons and battle your way to the next mission checkpoint.

The updated BFG edition still looks good today, some people are recommending you should check out the high-res texture pack as well.

Again, this is one of the greatest FPS games ever made.

A great package of classics and many hours of fun but Doom 3 itself is the weaker game here.

[+]⠀The amount of shooting fun in this collection is phenomenal. You get (almost) all of Doom and Doom II, a version of Doom 3 with an improved flashlight system, the original expansion for Doom 3 and yet another DLC only available in this package. That's an insane number of levels! The gunplay and enemy variety are excellent in all three games, there are plenty of secrets to find and the general level design is great. While not as feature-laden as dedicated source ports, the included launcher for Doom and Doom II makes those games more fun to play with quality mouse support.

[-]⠀I really enjoyed playing through Doom and Doom II again but Doom 3 is not a game I liked as much as the others. Too many corridors, too many predictable encounters and just too repetitive overall. The gory visuals and jump scares the devs went for is not something every classic Doom fan will enjoy.

1. Graphics and story 9/10 (Doom has become the most important game in the history of games and software development. I think it's a game well known. The two previous classic games have been included in this version. Something that has highlighted Doom 3 is the intention of developing a complex narrative. A narrative that doesn’t eliminate or limit the idea of being an action shooter game. The developers have added the concept of survival and an interesting narrative: the demons of hell from the opening of portals on the planet Mars. The graphics are good, with gloomy and dark scenarios. A dimly lit different from the classic version. We’ll have a marine with a survivor role and with a decently developed narrative. The design of the demons, the city of Mars, the landscapes of Mars and hell, offer an essential perspective of horror and action of the game.)

2. Playability 9/10 (The character's controls are fluid and without any interaction problems. Many of the marine's actions are similar to the movements of Doom 1 and 2. An agile character, but also with certain limits. We’ll have a finite variety of weapons. [spoiler]From melee and chainsaw to the deadly weapon that is the BFG. To get ammo, shield and health, lockers with their individual code will be available in the PDA files[/spoiler]. I don’t know if many will be interested in reading such files, because in the content the codes of many doors will be found. The PDAs will contain curious information about the characters, such as gifts from Martian Buddy. The game is an interesting proposal. Sometimes enemies will give surprises and others will offer the feeling of stalking. The game is between the category of survival and action.)

3. Music and FX 9/10 (The music of Doom has been a special and quite recognized soundtrack. An introduction to the game's menu is accompanied by metal and industrial music. I think the creation of some pieces of music were composed by industrial rock band Nine Inch Nails. Some places in the game, we can only listen to dark ambient with elements and mixes of industrial music. A music that shows the terror of the enemies or the sensation of stalking. Hellish music! Epic music, classical music, we can hear it in the most important scenes, for example, at the time of the recovery of the cube of souls. I like that combination of tension and suspense, action and fear.)

4. Duration 9/10 (The game is long. Every scenario is different. There is no sense of repetition. Although, sometimes, certain scenarios appear to have the same collection of objects in their content. The most disturbing part is the trip to hell. The scenarios have not been recycled, we’ll always see something different and something similar as we progress through the story. A linear story and a linear progression, by the way. We will rarely have to return to the same place. The game contains four difficulties. The ultimate difficulty is really a terrible nightmare. Various DLCs have been added to understand the meaning of the game's storytelling. Recommended to play this version, the classic version and the first games.)

Doom 3 is an odd game since despite having a greater focus on horror, it's still an action game at the end of the day. There's more story compared to the original games, however it is nothing too special and it can be very predictable at times. Since Doom 3 is still an action game, your weapons are pretty strong and you can carry a ton of ammo with you. I am aware the BFG Edition added more but considering the lockers give you a ton of ammo anyways in the original Doom 3, I am confused as to why they even added more ammo to begin with. Doom 3 still has good atmosphere and a great interpretation of Hell that I think even Doom 2016 and Eternal do not capture. It really shows how terrifying Hell is for your normal person, or in this game's case, a marine who is usually indifferent to a lot of things.

Most people know the Doom 3 shotgun is pretty bad, and honestly I can't deny that. It may kill Imps and many other monsters in one hit, but you need to be in point-blank range for it to be effective. Because Doom 3 is still an action game, having a crappy shotgun does not make the game scary, especially when 75% of the game's enemies are really Imps, Z-Sec and zombies. Besides the shotgun though, a lot of Doom 3's weapons are great fun to use. Real standouts in the crowd are the Chaingun and Plasma Rifle, both very powerful weapons and disposes your enemies quickly. The BFG Edition does add more ammo as I mentioned earlier so I pretty much ditch the shotgun and use the better weapons as much as I can. The weapon sounds are also good, I never get tired of hearing the Plasma Rifle reload sound.

When it comes to difficulty however, Doom 3 is the easiest Doom game ever released. The BFG Edition does not make the game harder, it is easier here due to the added ammo and armor-mounted flashlight. Since most enemies in the game are Imps or variations of them, you never need to worry about tough monsters like the Hell Knight appearing often. Even when those tough monsters do appear, they all walk slow and your weapons are powerful enough to take down out quickly. Armor is useless in this game, but health is plentiful to the point that armor being useless doesn't weaken the player much. If you want to play Doom 3 and its expansions with any sort of challenge, Nightmare is your best bet. You get the [spoiler]Soul Cube[/spoiler] from the start in Doom 3 and Lost Mission, plus your health drains by 5HP every 5 seconds until it reaches 25HP, so you'll need to use the [spoiler]Soul Cube[/spoiler] sparingly if you want to stay alive. In Resurrection of Evil, you get the [spoiler]Artifact[/spoiler] from the start, leaving your only source of health to be health monitors. Not only that, there are far less opportunities to use the [spoiler]Artifact[/spoiler] on Nightmare in Resurrection of Evil so you'll need to decide when you need the extra power.

Speaking of Lost Mission, it is the only new content in the BFG Edition. It features 8 new levels and a new story where you play as one of the member of Bravo Team after his squad got killed. He is left alone to stop the invasion of Hell on Mars and he meets up with a scientist named Richard Davis to help him out. This takes place during the events of Doom 3 and being an expansion released 8 years after the original release of the game, this sounds like a good bonus. Lost Mission definitely has some of the best Hell levels in all of Doom 3 and some of the best combat as well, but it is still underwhelming overall. Atmosphere outside of the Hell levels is pretty lacking and story is pretty minimal as it gets. The expansion can be beaten in 1-2 hours if you're just playing casually, so it's not very long either. It's not bad but it could have been both longer and better.

It's weird to look back at the BFG Edition since initially I disliked it for how poor Classic Doom plays here and I was not entirely fond of the changes made to Doom 3. Playing through the Doom 3 portion after a long while, I don't dislike it as much as I used to. In a weird twist, I ended up disliking the flashlight mechanic in the original Doom 3 and ended up liking the armor-mounted flashlight in the BFG Edition. The pitch black rooms in the original Doom 3 is not scary because all it does is just take away your right to even see anything and pulling the flashlight just wastes your time when the game tosses another easy to dispose Imp. Basically, this armor-mounted flashlight lets you waste no time to kill monsters and doesn't have you putting away your weapon just to see a single zombie that poses no issue when health and ammo is everywhere.

With that rant on the flashlight out of the way, I still dislike the Classic Doom portion of the BFG Edition since all id Software did was just the bare minimum to have Classic Doom running. Bugs from the original DOS versions of Doom are still present and resolution scaling is messed up so if you're playing in widescreen, the game won't be in a proper 4:3 aspect ratio. It is also still capped at 35FPS and No Rest For The Living is missing its metadata on what MIDI tracks to play. No Rest For The Living is a great 9 level WAD for Doom 2 and it really shows how good modern vanilla-styled Doom levels can be, but I recommend playing it with a source port like Crispy Doom over the BFG Edition. Did I mentioned there's also pitch-shifted sounds, hope you don't mind that. The Unity re-releases of Doom have came a long way, go play that if you want an easy to set up way to play Classic Doom. That release also has support for custom vanilla WADs, so there is not many reasons to play Classic Doom in the BFG Edition unless you want Steam achievements.

Overall, the BFG Edition is not a bad package to play Doom 3, but I recommend getting it on sale since unfortunately you are also paying for the Classic Doom portion of it when paying $20 for this. Whenever it goes for around $5, I'd say it worth picking up and finishing your Doom collection that way. If you want to play Doom 3: BFG Edition with a source port, you can check out RBDoom3BFG or Doom BFA and see how you can improve your Doom 3 experience.

Doom 3 BFG Edition is a great package. It comes with six games and I snatched it on sale for $4.99. The classic games ran well and I didn't mind the changes to Doom 3. I know a lot of people complained about the new flashlight in 3, but I liked being able to see during fights. It's a shame they didn't improve the regular shotgun. It still sucks.

While DOOM 3 was a ground breaking game visually when it released in 2004, DOOM 3 BFG Edition fails to live up to the original game, and no I'm not gonna complain about the flashlight. that drama was completely stupid so I'm not even gonna mention it any further. BFG Edition is game that simply was designed for 7th gen consoles and not the PC. The whole purpose of it was so that console players would finally get to experience a complete version of DOOM 3 without compromised level design and visuals, and in that sense this game achieves that very well. Now the PC version on the other hand failed the moment it was even considered. Right off the bat one thing you'll probably notice while playing is that the performance and optimization is absolute garbage. The game cannot keep a consistent frame rate at any point in the campaign . No matter how beefy a rig you play it on, the FPS constantly drops and fluctuates all over the place, especially in higher resolutions than 1080p. This does also come with DOOM and DOOM II Hell on Earth but they are sadly compromised versions of the games, and are also incompatible with most modern source ports. If you plan to play DOOM 3 on PC then play the original and make any visual modifications to the game as you see fit.

I played through this on Oculus Rift S using the Fully Possessed VR mod. Make sure to find the latest patches/installers. I would recommend against using any HD pack as it complicates things but If you can get it working it really makes the game much better looking.

Overall very positive experience for such an old game never intended for VR but beware of some crashing and troubleshooting to get through it. Remember to manually save often and use many save slots.

The VR interface is really well made with lots of options for how you want to play. You have a flashlight in your off hand and weapon of choice in the other and use both at the same time. You use your hands to open locked doors and call lifts which adds to the immersion.

As for gameplay. It did get a bit boring after a while mostly just shooting up demons. You have plenty of ammo even on veteran så you can just spray away and time your reloads to clear an area of hostiles.

There is a story which you can dig deeper into if you wish as with every pda you pick up you can read emails and listen to recordings which gives you details on what has been going on.

I enjoyed the whole experience and think that VR makes the game a lot better than the pancake version. If not for the VR mod I don't think I would have bothered to finish it.

My Grandmother purchased this game for me from a garage sale on CD-ROM and just like that I played my first DOOM game at the age of 10. The game terrified me but at the same time was so much fun that I pushed past my fears to experience the glorious sci-fi world of DOOM. Having played all the DOOM games now this is by far my favourite of the older games. If you’re feeling like having a retro gaming FPS experience and you want to see the DOOM marine in full action before he was ripping and tearing titans apart then this is the game for you!

The least painful way to play Doom 3 without modding the original, but at the cost of challenge and the original atmosphere. Good buy if you don't own any of the original Doom trilogy or want Doom 3 to be more shooter, less horror.

I honestly think if you enjoyed the experience of doom 3, you should stick to the vanilla release. This watered down re-release does not have the impact of the original, and is less enjoyable because of it. One of Doom 3's best aspects was the lighting, which is now like someone shoving a flashlight in your face. Speaking of which, vanilla Doom 3 has a handheld flashlight to light dark areas but you couldn't use it and your gun simultaneously. This heightens tension, and gives a sense of terror as you try to switch back to your gun when an enemy appears. The bfg edition has a shoulder mounted flashlight, allowing you to fire your weapon, and have your flashlight on. This is a terrible idea on ID'S part. Now the suspense of the game is gone, and the game is less difficult. The weapons also have an increased ammo capacity. In the original release you had to conserve ammo, and use your more heavy weapons like the rocket launcher, chaingun, and BFG sparingly. Now the game practically hands you ammo by the dozen, which removes the importance of using your ammo wisely.

The issue with the poor audio quality remains unsolved (forever). This kills most of the tense atmosphere known from the original Doom 3 game.

Pros:

-Basically the original game and expansion with Doom 1 & 2 included. A few new configurations have been added.

Cons:

-Doom 3 has had the majority of its graphical configurations stripped out, completely ruining the main technical point of the game, as well as killing the immersion and ruining the atmosphere. This one flaw alone ruins the whole purchase! Where the original had the typical low-medium-high-ultra settings with a slew of other options, this version had all of them taken out except for anti-aliasing, anisotropic filtering and an FOV adjustment. The game is now permanently set somewhere between Low and Medium, making all the textures in the game look blocky/muddy/blurry, completely defeating the purpose of all the pixel-shading goodness the original releases had while also making it look 3 years older than it is! The graphics were THE selling point for this game, and it's been completely castrated for reasons I can't fathom! (stability/compatibility?) The only ways I've found to 'fix' the issue is A) messing with the config files, if you can find them, and your mileage will vary, and since there're previous releases of this game, you'll find incorrect/conflicting info all over the place, or B) installing a mod.

-I've been noticing this more lately where you need mods/hacks to fix games, whether they're new or old. Nier:Automata, Final Fantasy 6, the Fallout games, and now Doom 3. There's no excuse for this crap! Why does the fanbase have to add/fix all of the things that devs can't/won't do? On that note, why would you re-release an old game and make it WORSE than the original? At the VERY LEAST, just make it exactly the same! (Shadow Man, Thief 3) I like how you added Doom 1 & 2 and they play exactly the same, but then you cripple the graphics for 3 and completely ruin it. WHY?!

-This game just doesn't hold up like I thought it would, especially after playing Doom 2016. Doom 1 & 2 at least have a retro charm to them, but 3 just feels cripplingly slow. It also relies too heavily on the jump-scare fad that was so popular at the time, and there's lots of cheap moves where baddies will loudly kick down a wall right next to you and/or hit you with a surprise back-attack and/or wail on you in a corner. Both of those things combined makes this game feel dated, strangely enough. The flashlight is now on your chest, which is fine if you like that, but I'd have preferred to at least have the option of playing it the ol' school way.

-I also hear Doom 1 & 2 have been censored somehow, but I can't be bothered to confirm it. If it's true, why? Why would you bother censoring pixel-based pseudo-3D games encroaching on 30 years of age?

Honestly, I would suggest finding the old games and building a retro PC to play them. You can find the originals of all 3 of these games anywhere for cheap/nothing, and getting an old PC for cheap/nothing is just as easy. Get some free copies of Windows XP & 7, setup for dual-booting and BOOM! At least if you build a retro box you could also get Diablo 2 & the LoD expansion in a 2-for-1 deal and instantly double your fun!

Don't get BFG Edition, get the original doom 3 that cost 4.99, ROE cost 2.99, and Doom 1 and 2 which cost around 4.99 instead. Get ZDoom or skulltag to play Doom 1 and 2 in 4K! There's nothing much about BFG Edition expect a new 8 mission campaign aka Lost Missions,the shotgun sound is different, the flashlight is on your chest, ammo pickups are increased which make all your weapons full of ammo, and the lights are brighter. DOOM 1 and 2 is a huge mess in BFG Edition, No.1 The enemies voice are pitched which i hate it, No.2 The wolfenstein level is censored, the nazi soldiers are replaced with zombie men which is stupid because they are so easy to kill them. and that's all. Get the original instead.

With a huge pair of decade-old shoes to fill, and the hungry eyes of PC gamers everywhere fixed on them, id Software had undertaken mission: impossible – to create a Doom game honoring the series' traditions while keeping in step with an FPS landscape transforming rapidly in the wake of Half-Life. While a quick glance at old reviews would seem to indicate an unqualified success, you don't have to look far to find fans who were less than pleased with the results.

After all, Doom 3 is about as much of a traditional FPS as Resident Evil 6 is traditional survival-horror, and sometimes change simply isn't what players want.

Doom 3 BFG Edition is the definitive way of playing the Doom, Doom 2 and Doom 3 on steam in my opinion. With Doom and Doom 2 you can use a controller which you cannot do to my knowledge in The Ultimate Doom. Doom 3 BFG Edition also includes the DLC for Doom 3 which are a better experience than the original game if you ask me.

The original Doom is still to this day one of the best FPS games out there which everyone should play through at least once. Doom 2 is basically a map pack for Doom with some new weapons and enemies. Doom 2 level design is a a lot worse when compared to Doom but if you enjoyed the original you will most likely enjoy Doom 2.

Doom 3 is quite a let down. The main games battle scenes are mostly in a small area with only just a few enemies. This is hinders the games enjoyment a lot. Doom 3 gameplay feels a little like this: get keycard, open door, fight enemies in a dull environment for 5 minutes and repeat. I don't recommend playing through Doom 3 but play through the DLC for Doom 3. Doom 3 The Lost Mission and Resurrection of Evil show that with the right level development Doom 3 could have been a good title in the Doom franchise.

-Doom 3 gameplay is boring and makes the game feel like a chore

Revisiting this again in 2020 with the Fully Possessed VR Mod. Fantastic, polished VR experienced. i think it's the best bang for the VR buck today.

Great way to get into the first three Doom games. This package includes Ultimate Doom (Doom I), Doom II, Doom 3, and Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil (an expansion pack). Though there exist better versions of all these games (such as the original Doom 3 release and miscellaneous Doom and Doom II source ports), this is not a bad way to get into the franchise and play these amazing games. Having said that there are some issues.

PROS:
- Three great games that are largely the same as the released versions
- All of the great levels, weapons, enemies and amazing gameplay present in these games
- Some quality of life features included, such as modern resolutions, especially for Doom 3
- Only way to get these games with achievements and assorted Steam features

CONS:
- Some performance issues, you may have to set some launch options before playing the game
- Some unfortunate changes, such as the flashlight in Doom 3 and missing content in Doom II

More of a suspenseful, jump scare approach than the awesome newer gung-ho Doom games.
It does things slightly different but it does them well, a great addition to the Doom library.

Some downgrades sadly, but if you're not into game editing this makes it the easiest way for everyone to enjoy timeless titles without too much of a hassle.

Doom 3 looks and plays like a modern game still.

I remember when this was released in 2004, what great times these were. Though considered to be the black sheep of the series for me it remains my favorite. I appreciate them trying to change the formula a bit. Even though DOOM 2016 is amazing DOOM 3 has it's own flavor and to this day I love it.

This is nerfed Doom 3. I played through on veteran, believing I was playing the original game. I managed to pretty easily beat the game. Previously, I struggled on the normal difficulty and thought I was simply playing better than I have before.

Nope. I googled the differences, and BFG edition basically removes the need to use your flashlight (even though it's armor mounted now) has WAY more ammo (we're talking WAY more, like enough that NONE of my weapons were ever empty once I got them) and monsters have been removed or replaced. There's also other random missing features like the other arcade games.

I really enjoyed my play through of it but I'm really disappointed to know this version of the game was HEAVILY nerfed. Even RoE's boss was REALLY heavily nerfed. I don't understand why Bethesda thought any of these changes were needed.

Also, some of the bosses feel like they're auto completed in RoE. None of the bosses I killed died from my gunshot. I usually in the middle of trying to run away then the cinematic would play... and they would be dead. The last boss in particualar I know I hit less than previous attempts, but for some reason, I was able to beat him.

Do yourself a favor and obtain the original version of this game. BFG edition sucks.

I don't care for this BFG Edition of Doom 3. I have the original Doom 3 and RoE on CD and I plan to play them instead. The graphics and flashlight use were better before. Also the difficulty seems off. It is not hard, but it just gets boring after a while. Plenty of ammo/health and non-stop easy enemies on veteran difficulty.
I would get Doom 3 by itself instead for the best Doom 3 experience. Same with RoE.
