  • Multiplayer-Modus
  • Umfangreiches Waffenarsenal
  • Mike Patton, ehemaliger Sänger der Musikgruppe „Faith No More“, spricht Hauptcharakter Nathan Spencer

Contra:
- Einsteigerfreundlichkeit aus der Hölle
- Sehr frustrierend gesetzte Checkpoints
- Die Steuerung per Tastatur ist grässlich , CONTROLLER DRINGEND EMPFOHLEN
- hanebüchene Story inklusive uninspiertem Hitler-Klon als Oberbösewicht
- Cutscenes lassen sich nicht überspringen
- Repetitives Leveldesign
- schwache Waffenauswahl

this game is so fucking retarded I'm not even gonna bother completing it.
First, you navigate the main menu using some kind of a huge dark sperm... Why? Why can't you just make a normal menu like everyone else? This is a generic XBOX 360 2000-2010 game, noone is expecting anything unique. Out of everything you could have made unique, THIS is what you chose???? THE FUCKING LOADING SCREEN??? A DARK SPERM??? WHY????
The thing that actually made me refund this game is the fact that sometimes button prompts would be for keyboard and mouse and all of a sudden switch to a controller prompts. I don't have a controller connected or anything, so it wasn't me activating the controller by accident. When I did try to connect a controller, it didn't even work. This game is so fucking stupid, I hate all these stupid games that release on PC while giving us shitty KB & M controls.
Listen here fucko, if you wanna pander to the console fanboys then don't release your generic ass game on PC, we have plenty of other generic games to enjoy.
I don't understand why people are fine with game companies shitting all over the PC community, even to this day, noone criticizes Dark Souls for being such a lazy ass game and not even giving us sufferable KB & M controls.
If you're sick of game companies making bad games and stupid decisions, stop supporting them for doing this.
Fuck this game and fuck you Capcom for not only this game, but having an entire catalog of clunky games

Underrated in its time and still a ton of fun - Bionic Commando is certainly worth even the full $10 asking price. Grappling hooks are also very stylish to include in action games now, after Doom Eternal and Halo Infinite, and Bionic Commando basically invented modern grappling hook mechanics. Swinging around, hurling random objects at enemies, and keeping the flow going lead to a rewarding gameplay loop. There is also a surprising amount of room for creativity in fights. It's certainly not perfect, nor the most polished game, but once the game really starts moving about two hours in, it's hard to put it down.

This is a very lazy console port to PC. You absolutely need a 360 controller to play this, otherwise, good effing luck playing this with a keyboard and mouse. There are no graphic options. The game is very 90's (bad guy there, good guy go kill) combat is dull, but you get to swing like Spiderman, a very clumsy and stupid Spiderman, but still, I really can't recommend this.

An Underrated Gem

Bionic Commando has unpredictable storyline and this is very good especially in this video game industry
that all games have same plot
Idea and story plot is mind-blowing. There are many interesting twists and a set up for future sequels that make its story Richer
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2563150062
In ending plot twist will blow your mind when you discover the truth about your Bionic Arm T_T
It’s dramatic tragic and epic at the same time
But unfortunately, Storytelling is not good. The way that story progress ruined
the potential of Bionic Commando's unique plot
Characterization is not good too
And for these reasons Plot twists cannot make an emotional impact on us as much as they could.

But in overall story is acceptable for a third person shooter game

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2563142502
aside from story

The Gameplay is the strength of Bionic Commando

it's based on jumping and swinging with your Bionic Arm just like the old bionic commando games
If you can handle Bionic Arm's mechanic and get used to it you will fell in love with this game
Believe me, Gameplay is masterful
You can slay entire an army without touching the ground
You can do anything... literally anything with your Bionic Arm but first you have to learn how to use it and this is not easy

Level design is awesome

Man I spend 9 hours finishing this game and it never got boring at all
In every mission you will see a new kind of enemy so you need a new kind of weapon and a new strategy to take him down
Your journey will bring you to under the grounds
In middle of the forests
To Sewer seas and skies
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2563147435
You will see so many epic and memorable moments in this game
Even Sometimes I killed myself to replay a specific moment in the game
to hear that damn epic music again when
I was in the air and I was shooting at the enemies like a crazy person
https://youtu.be/Wj94owo0kbA

verdict

Don’t miss this game if you like third person shooters
Bionic Commando is an enjoyable adventure
Trust me :)

This game is worth the money in fact I would pay more for this game. My first time run was on commando mode, it was a frustrating mode but in a good way. The combat was amazing and the boss fights were creative, unique, fun and just all around amazing. When completing this run the ending made me really think about who and what the main character is, he was a solder but he was also a bit more than a solder with a dark secret that he would soon figure out by the end of the game. The game is a must buy in my opinion it is too good to pass up.

As good as Rearmed was, I had more hope for this title. It shows its age poorly. Fun-ish for 8-10hrs, worth it under $5. Swinging around feels good, but the gunplay is unsatisfying and the enemies/bosses are poorly designed.

Graphics are great, and runs at higher resolution and framerates no problems. There aren't any more polygons than originally, so the character models are what they are, but it will crank pixels and frames. Music is underdeveloped, but not bad. Voice acting is... much better than the script.
MKB controls better than an analog gamepad, and with the mouse it's very easy to hit your swings/shots. However, movement is subject to a lot of jank and collisions in particular can be pretty bad. Just stay away from corners.
Honestly, the controls and movement I didn't really mind. It's worse than Darksiders or Prince of Persia (to compare 3rd person console 3D platformers of the era), but better than many others. Where it really struggles is with enemy design and how it matches up with your equipment/capabilities. You get the feeling they were going for a really tactical feeling game, but to force you to throw rocks and do the other bionic arm moves, they basically gave you overarmored enemies and inadequate ammo. Rather than making the player feel clever, it just makes you wish you could experiment more with different weapon/move combos and such. After the first time you defeat a new type of enemy, you'll never really want to fight them again. They're all basically annoying.
Boss fights can be particularly bad. The whole game is built around swinging with your arm, and then for a bunch of boss fights they don't give you any environment to grapple on.
The checkpoint system can be harsh, and some levels have no checkpoints at all. Play the whole thing without dying, or start over again. The map edge kills you if you go too far, and that's implemented very poorly.
I beat it on hard, but honestly unless you're masochistic or decide to have too much pride, just play it on the easiest setting and enjoy swinging around for as long as that stays fresh for you. It's worth a dollar or two; definitely avoid at full price.

This game is badass. A lot of haters must've had too much expectations from it, It is very faithful to the original game, however, which is what many people don't realize. It is still a platformer, It still has basic mechanics but in a 3D environment, the relays that you're supposed to attach to and hack into are very similar to the computer rooms in the NES game that you can enter in and use to communicate to fellow U.S. Soldiers, or wiretap behind Nazi enemy lines, the main character seems and looks like a badass that can't be messed with, the gameplay is awesome, the soundtrack is amazing, the dialogue is good, and the graphics are pretty good for '09 standards.

This was WELL worth the buy. 10/10

This game has a ridiculous twist, I say this before anything else because I know that is all most people know about the game, but the gameplay is incredibly engaging, even masterful if you get the hang of the arm mechanics; I can't recommend this game enough just for the gameplay. Get this in the bundle with Bionic Commando rearmed and play the game with the classic skin, the character of Spencer is somehow less of a pain with the 80's look because the voice acting looks and sounds like a parody and not full straight face as it is with the regular skin.

PS: Keep in mind that you might need an Nvidea (if you have an nvidea card) patch to get the game running but it is easy to find in the forums everyone ask for the same.

Another old masterpiece from 2009
the story continues after the first 2D game.
- Graphics are magnificent for a 12 year old game
- Awesome and satisfying gameplay , well implemented.
- The story could've been better but still very engaging.
I remember back when i first played this about 10 years ago , it made me emotional as a teenager.
- Fun boss fights
- Fun fighting mechanics in general
- Very good achievement/upgrade system.
- Unfortunately pretty short :(
- Commando difficulty(max) is very challenging.
Definitely recommended!!!

My childhood game. I played this on my PlayStation 3 back when consoles didn't need to pay for online memberships. The story was so confusing and mesmerizing as a child but now that I'm a little older I understand the rhetoric, great reminiscence worth the play through to fulfill myself I suppose, and just to add it to my steam, very difficult for me to say try it out now since graphics and such have advanced so much but nonetheless I enjoyed it!

the games is so fuckin awesome the story is really effective the graphics r cool and physics r KINDA good
The game uses several mechanics (primarily radiation) which act as barriers. These barriers are used to keep the players within the confines of the linear level design and ur main character called Nathen Spencer
Notice : no need for weapons if u have an arm like the one he has

This game got pooped on when it came out, but it's actually a great experience. SUPER underrated gameplay, tons of different techniques and weapons allow players to be creative in combat scenarios. There's also some platforming and exploration elements, so it rarely gets boring.

The story is definitely a meme in some ways but, it's actually a pretty fun one. It's super edgy and tongue in cheek, and Spencer / Super Joe have a good dynamic.

Bionic Commando is a third person shooter from 2009 with a focus on swinging/platforming based loosely on the NES title from 1988 by the same name. It's technically a sequel and has a similar narrative to its more traditional remake in Bionic Commando: Rearmed. Met with mixed reception in its time, and it largely remaining an underwhelming experience, it's understandable why many don't find it an attractive title.

Premise: Taking place 10 years after the NES game. You'll play as Major Nathan “Rad” Spencer. Who is a member of T.A.S.C (Tactical Arms and Security Committee). [All you really need to know is that he works for the government doing secret stuff.] T.A.S.C works on training soldiers with Bionics like Spencer. Said concisely, you'll soon discover that Spencer was betrayed, falsely imprisoned and thusly a “Great Bionic Purge” takes place. — The game's setting is “Ascension City” which has been devastated by an experimental weapon — a terrorist organization taking credit, calling themselves “BioReign”. Spencer is subsequently freed to go after these terrorists wherein he is reunited with his bionic arm.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2318522125

Nathan might be “Rad” but he isn't as graceful as Peter Parker, or Miles Morales for that matter.

Featuring a similar swinging mechanic, Nathan is remarkably more grounded. In order to traverse the very linear structure of the game's environments, you'll almost need to plot a course rather than act organically or in a way that warrants reactive behavior to your surroundings. However, nearing the end game where more enemies are, this methodical type of movement becomes a bit more chaotic.

The game will prompt you when an optimal time to release is, but that time is not always the best for the situation. That prompt is more for when you need to release to get the most distance. You're also able to climb vertically or even jump over-from-underneath essentially by smashing jump. It leads to a lot of clumsy movement that does get the job done but ultimately doesn't look very elegant. Though, I'm sure someone much better at video games or knows the environment really well can make it look graceful. In some instances, you'll need to catapult backwards off of a surface, attach and swing underneath to gain the necessary momentum to cross a gap. This can look elegant in and of itself.

Ports are always gonna be weird.

This is an Xbox 360 title and it shows. The game does support mouse and keyboard but you can't switch between that and gamepad at will. You'll need to go back to the initial splash screen for it to detect your input device. Beyond this, there are a few quick-time events that use the 360 button layout that do not change in-or-outside the quick-time event when using mouse and keyboard. However, the game utilizes heavy auto-aim for swinging as well as shooting. You'll obviously get more fidelity out of mouse and keyboard but using a gamepad has its compromises, such as the pressing down on the D-pad will very quickly turn the camera around. Sort of like Resident Evil 4 had with its quick turn. This is useful should you overshoot your grapple point or when fighting shielded mechs that can only be attacked from behind. (Unless you just throw a big rock at them.)

The combat does feel pretty good, you'll have weapons air dropped in for you such as shotguns, grenade launchers — the usual gambit. But Nathan's arm and your ability to punch very big things into other big [or small] things is always going to be your best bet.

The Gist:

Bionic Commando was one of those games I just never bothered to finish back in 2009. But if you're like me and enjoy playing slightly older games, I can recommend this on sale. I would fully recommend it, but it's not very long — about 8 hours for the campaign with little to no replay value and can be a bit janky in spots. The story is okay. It's a pretty standard governmental-spec-ops-conspiracy-science-experiment-gone-wrong sort of affair. It's not [un]interesting.

The OST is pretty good as well.

Perhaps it's a tad more interesting for its place in video game history than the game itself. But I think it's worth a jaunt.

The game is rough around the edges, the bionic arm is amazing swinging from place to place, though at times it is buggy causing you to ram into a wall or drown.

Enemies get annoying because it seems that the soldiers have unlimited vision spraying their bullets at you at sniping range.

Biomechs are annoying especially when there are around 4-5 of them at the same time, once they punch you and recover the other one immediately knocks you back again and again and again.

I guess its an average game at 5 hours completion but at $10 it is not worth it.

At first, it was fun. Then it became exhausting.
The grapple mechanics have a very nice concept and they feel nice when they work. Sadly, the don't work most of the time.
There's really four cases:
- Everything works smoothly. You swing yourself from pole to pole and everything's fine. The main character rewards you by growling like Tarzan on drugs.
- You have nothing to swing on. Perhaps you just grappled to a flying enemy and took it out. Now you're in the middle of the air with nothing around you. You desperately try to hook yourself to literally anything with a hitbox, but there's just nothing there. You die miserably and have to replay everything because Spencer is a full-grown man who cannot swim.
- You feel encouraged to explore one of the dozens of tokens lying around the map waiting to be discovered. You try to find an alternative way by swinging off the main way only to find you dead through radiation three seconds later. That's about the amount of time it takes you to die of the radiation that is BC's alternative to invisible walls. It's everywhere and you only need to stray a few meters off the path to discover it. If you accidentally swing into it, you die. Occasionally, I died while searching for the main way, because the main way was not at all obvious.
- You lose all momentum because you couldn't just about get into the grapple distance. Or because you let go too late. Or because you dashed into an invisible particle. Or you just simply die because one of those things happened to you and you couldn't get hold of anything and fell down once again.

Note that - for me - most of the game's value comes from the grappling mechanics. Gunplay is awful. Story is replaceable. Graphics are outdated. Fights don't feel thrilling.
In the end, I had fun with it for a while, but didn't finish it. If you're really into grappling mechanics or blunt action games, this might be for you.

Love the game mechanics, love the music, love pretty much everything about the game, but damn it's so hard I can't recommend it. Every five to ten minutes of gameplay you get stuck with a part of the game that's so hard you have to redo it 20 times before being able to finish it and keep playing. Of course I'm on the hardest difficulty cause I already finished it on the easiest, but even on easy, was not easy. I would be fine with it if you had longer stretch of playing before getting stucked. You just don't feel like a super power war machine.

I LOVED the original and rearmed versions of bionic commando but this bastardized reboot is unplayable, unbalanced, and a straight up pain to get through. I wish capcom would come out with a new side scroller version better than this in the future.

A very nice sci-fi shooter, and not your typical one. There is a lot of platforming, being able to destroy your enemies creatively with your bionic arm, ripping apart mini-boss giant robots, levels where you have to carefully avoid snipers, interesting boss fights and such. Story is nice, even though I haven't played the classic BC, it was easy to understand. It has three difficulty modes, normal, hard and commando. But hard was like normal and I guess normal would be pretty easy to beat. Ammo can deplete very fast and you might not find extra ones lying around in abundance so make sure you are taking the shot, especially with the secondary weapon and grenades. Good job, Capcom.

This game was nothing like I expected it to be....

I haven't finished it yet but.. wow. I heard everywhere that this game was trash, it was a bad reboot, it was emblematic of an era of Capcom and many other Japanese game devs that were struggling during the rise of HD and struggled to make games to appeal to the western market, and was overall a mistake from an era long since passed. With this in mind, I never bothered playing the game, but in recent years people have been more fond of it, and it was cheap, so I bought it for $2 while it was on sale (which it is very often) and gave it a go. I thought it was going to suck, and played it expecting to get a few laughs in, having nothing to lose, but I couldn't be more wrong.

I thought the game was going to be a very bland, run of the mill cover shooter of the era with occasional, poorly thought out grappling claw mechanics, but no. This game is no cover shooter. One could argue the original game was more of a cover shooter than this and that was a side scroller.

What we get is essentially a game where you're highly mobile, evading enemy fire, and given a ton of choices with how to defeat foes. You could just use a gun and shoot them, you could punch them, you could use your bionic arm to throw enemies or crates at other enemies, or you could do a sonic-style homing attack and thrust yourself straight into the enemies' faces one by one. Whatever you choose to do, you can string kills together and keep your constant momentum. A skilled player could remain swinging around most of a level. It's similar to a spiderman game in that regard, and the swinging controls are mercifully easy to use and lock onto the nearest grapple point with ease. For a shooting game of this era the momentum of fights and sheer mobility almost reminded me of how shooting games today are trying to step away from cover shooting and more towards highly mobile dodging and shooting action, and this game was released when cover shooting oversaturated the market! Literally no one told me this game went so hard against the gain of most of its contemporaries.

As for the plot... yeah. it's pretty bad. It's not unbearable, but it's incredibly goofy and feels like a so-bad-it's-good B-movie. the plot tries so hard to take itself seriously, but the writing and voice acting are so flat that it just feels like unintentional parody. Another thing to note is that it's not a reboot of the Bionic Commando setting; it's instead a sequel to the NES game. Radd Spencer is older and jaded, Super Joe is now commander of his organization and there's been a falling out between him and Radd, and there's a new terrorist group on the rise that's willing to fight government oppression against bionics thru extreme means: nuking an entire city. You have to fight these guys while more information about what happened between the NES game and this one are rolled out.

Another neat thing about this game: if you have Bionic Commando ReArmed you can unlock things between these two games. I recommend playing this game with the classic skin; It gives the game an entirely different tone thus enhancing it tenfold.

I need to play the game more to get a better feel for how good it truly is but honestly I'd say it's lowkey a hidden gem. Not the most amazing game ever, but way better than it has any right being. It surely surprised me, that's for sure.

Or maybe I expected it to be so bad my expectations were just set low enough. Who knows. You can't go wrong with $2.

I really want to like this game, but it is so full of cheap deaths you end up constantly replaying sections of the game.

What do I mean?

1. It uses invisible 'radioactive' areas to keep you on rails, which is fine except that there's no way to know you're straying while you are swinging around - because you move so fast - until it is suddenly too late and you've died. Because of this you are fighting the level and trying to puzzle out the mystery of what the level designers are hoping you will do, while taking away any possible player agency to solve problems in your own way. These level designs are entirely arbitrary. Do they want me to go to the top of the building or swing on the platforms into the distance? Who knows! You'll find out when you pick the wrong one and die.

2. The collectibles really are a huge detriment. They encourage you to try for crazy maneuvers, while simultaneously ensuring you will replay the section over and over to get it. Even better, you can get the collectible, feel great, but if you don't make it to the check point you have to do that impossible move all over again. Over and over.... until you give up on the 5th time collecting it because even though you know you can get it, you don't want to deal with the tedium of lining up that perfect swing only to die on the next part of the mission.

3. It has a penchant for popping up tutorials and messages, sometimes pausing the game altogether, while you are in the middle of a swing. Another fun way to die. I don't need a popup reminding me I can tug on objects while I'm swinging over fatal radioactive pits.

4. Sometimes the position of checkpoints are bizarrely arbitrary. In one section you have a big firefight, then a little conversation, and a few swings to get to the next waypoint. It takes quite a while. But, if you miss that last swing you have to do everything all over again.

5. Your player can drown in 3 feet of water, sometimes when it doesn't seem up to his head, just because he can't find a way to get out fast enough. I died multiple times to this, not understanding why, until later on the game explained I was too heavy. Fair enough, I guess, but the water sections should have been made more obviously fatal. Dying in a small puddle is sad.

The above, plus many other minor annoyances, make the game deeply frustrating. There are occasional peaks of fun combat, but it is mired in the miserably poor level design that forces weird and tedious maneuvers, constant instant deaths, and so on until you just want to give up.

This game will likely crash at startup for most people. Downloading and installing the latest version of Physx should solve that issue, at least it did for me.

So I have to start this review by saying that this game veered wildly between enjoyment and frustration. There are many annoying scenarios in this game involving the way you transverse the environment with your bionic arm. The worst of these are the frequent minefields you have to cross by swinging through them. These are some of the most maddening sections in the game and almost made me rage quit. I did complete them after many bouts of swearing and cursing the game developers’ existence (as well as my own).

Lucky for the game, there are some genuinely fun moments that redeem these horribly crafted sections. The combat mechanics are fun for the most part, if not a little unbalanced in certain instances. Speaking of balance - that would be my biggest criticism of Bionic Commando. It lacks the balance that could have made this a must-play title, because the basic elements for greatness are certainly there. With a little more polish, this could have easily been a classic. Perhaps the development window closed too quickly and the devs had to go with what they had by the original release date....

As it stands, this is yet another reluctant thumbs up from this reviewer. At $1.99, I certainly got my money’s worth. Just be advised there is a healthy dose of pain to go along with the pleasures that this game might bring you.

While this game is not popular it is a good game.

The gameplay is great, i used a controller so i can't speak about the Mouse & Keyboard support but the movement it's really good when you get the hang of it, nice variety of enemies and great well designed levels to explore.

The biggest problem of this game is the plot, it's so bad that i wanted to skip every cutscene and the ending it's very rushed with no detailed explanation. They keep introducing new characters with no information that you don't even care if they die. You don't even feel like this game is over at the end.

This is a combination of Prototype and Just Cause with a different theme, it's very linear but with big areas to move around.

Really cheap on sale, try it for the gameplay alone. Just forget about the plot and don't search for the lore of the other games in the franchise, you don't need it at all.
