Die Helden werden in Echtzeit über die Oberweltkarte gesteuert um Gold und Schätze zu sammeln, Truppen zu rekrutieren und Quests zu erledigen. Im umfangreichen Talentsystem können Erfahrungspunkte verteilt und Runen gesetzt werden, um die Macht der Helden und ihre Armeen zu vergrößern. Das war ein Reinfall. Der wohl schlechteste Teil der Serie überhaupt. Langgezogene Quest, nicht nachvollziehbare Aufgaben, rätseln ob und wo es weiter geht im Spiel. Ich habe das Spiel soweit bis Ende durch gespielt, aber musste einige Questen unerfüllt lassen weil entweder ein Charakter nicht da war oder ein Quest relevantes Teil fehlte. Grafik im üblichen Kings Bounty Stil also auch kein Fortschritt in dem Bereich, allerdings nicht so schlimm. Gespräche und Geschichte mehr als ideenlos,Story hat einen nicht mitgerissen. Ich kann sagen das dieses Spiel, dahingeklatscht worden ist ohne den früheren Stil und Story Line der ersten beiden Teile ( Teil 3 war schon grottenschlecht). Die Entwickler haben keine Lust mehr gehabt und das merkt man am ganzen Aufbau des Spiels. Warum das Spiel großenteils positive Kritik gekriegt hat ist mir ein unverständlich. Wäre es nicht im Paket drin gewesen, wäre es nach den ersten 2 Stunden sofort zurück gebucht worden und das Geld wieder aufs Konto gekommen. In Zukunft wird aus dem Entwickler Studio sofern es noch existiert erstmal nichts gekauft. Kings Bounty 2 ist in der Entwicklung und man kann nur hoffen das dieses Studio nicht nochmal so ein Mist produziert.

Der letzte Teil einer grandiosen Serie, die leider gehörig auf der Stelle tritt.

In diesem Teil spielt man mal eine von drei bösen Fraktionen. Dies ist nicht viel
anders als in anderen Kings Bounty Teilen, jedoch kann man auf diesem Wege mal mit
Orks, Dämonen oder Vampiren spielen. Ob nun aber gut oder böse ist für
den althergebrachten Spielverlauf egal...

Die Reihe ist wirklich super und bereitete mir viele hundert Stunden Spielspass. Man hat sehr viele
Zaubersprüche und Einheiten zur Auswahl, die sich teilweise herrlich ergänzen. Auch gibt es bei diesem
Teil mehr Quests mit ein paar Entscheidungen und teilweisen Questfolgen. Das Verpassen von irgendwelchen
Sachen ist möglich.

Aber: Die Reihe wird einfach nicht weiternetwickelt und die Kuh wird gemolken, bis es nicht mehr geht.
Die Graphik Engine ist zwar toll und detaillreich, jedoch vom uralten ersten Teil. Auch gibt es bei so nem Umfang
natürlich den ein oder anderen Bug (z. Bsp. Achievements), die den Entwicklern zwar seit Ewigkeiten bekannt sind, aber
einfach nicht beseitigt werden. Foren gibt es auf der offiziellen Webseite zu den anderen Kings Bounty Spielen,
aber nicht zu diesen. Man wird das Gefühl nicht los, das hier zwar einige Mühe in nen neuen Teil der Serie
gesteckt wurde, aber nach Erscheinen die Pflege desselben egal ist. Schade. Und wirklich: die Graphik
geht selbst für wenig verwöhnte Rundentaktik-Strategen langsam gar nicht mehr.

Auch wenn das Spielgefühl wieder super ist und man sich vom Schwächling zum Alles-Metzler aufschwingt bleibt
dieser schale Beigeschmack. Ein Tutorial gibt es leider auch nicht, hier soll man wohl bei altem Teilen lernen.
Richtig schade finde ich auch, dass alle Völer vertreten sind, ausser meine Lieblinge: das Echsenvolk...

Fazit: Für Genre-Freunde nach wie vor gut, für andere nicht mehr. Ich hoffe stark auf eine Evolution in den
nächsten Teilen.

Tip 1: Unabhängig vom Schwierigkeitsgrad ist die Dämonin die leichteste, danach die Vampirklasse und dann
die Orkklasse. Ganz leicht ist also der leichteste Schwierigkeitsgrad mit Dämonin und am schwersten
der schwierigste Schwierigkeitsgrad mit der Orkklasse.

Tip 2: Das DLC bringt 2 neue Inseln und neben dem, wenig beliebten, Wikingervolk und einem guten Amulett
zu Anfang des Spieles nur eine neue Einheit mit wenigen Quests. Genug für ein paar extra Stunden Spielzeit,
jedoch nicht mehr wie 1-2 Euro im Sale wert.

Was soll man zum mittlerweile fünftem King's Bounty noch groß sagen? - Außer vielleicht: ES IST KING'S BOUNTY wie schon die 4 Teile vorher ...

... Und doch haben sich die Entwickler auch diesmal etwas einfallen lassen - Was genau werde ich hier aber jetzt nicht verraten. Die Spielwelt kommt einem immer wieder merkwürdig vertraut vor, auch wenn mittlerweile frühere Schauplätze in Trümmern liegen oder von anderen Fraktionen bevölkert sind. Die Kämpfe sind immer noch als mittelschwer einzuordnen - außer den Boss-Kämpfen, die wirklich knackig ausfallen und Taktik und viel Rafinesse verlangen und vielleicht auch zu einem oder mehreren Haareraufern führen werden.

Die Quests gehören - wie in den 4 vorangegangenen Teilen - zum Besten was man finden kann. Immer wieder gibt es Anspielungen auf Filme oder andere Werke der Popkultur und mehr als einmal muss man beim Lesen schmunzeln. Und lesen sollte man wirklich mögen, denn Texte gibt es reichlich in diesem Spiel. Man sollte sich davon aber nicht abschrecken lassen, es lohnt sich wirklich.

Nach so vielen Worten des Lobes auch noch einige Worte zur Kritik: Das Quest-System ist immer noch eines der verworrendsten und - gerade gegen Ende - eines des am schwersten zu durchschauenden der Spielgeschichte. Gerade am Ende liest man die noch unerfüllten Quest und weiß mittlerweile überhaupt nbicht mehr wo man nun dieses oder jenes suchen soll. Meistens werden Quests auch eher durch Zufall gelöst, weil man gerade zufällig an der richtigen Burg zur richtigen Zeit klopft. Hier wäre langsam aber sicher eine Verbesserung fällig.

Insgesamt kann ich nur sagen: Wer die vorherigen King's Bounty-Spiele mochte wird auch dieses Spiel mögen. Wer bisher noch keinen Blick auf King's Bounty geworfen hat und sich für Rundenstrategie gepaart mit RPG begeistern kann, sollte hier zugreifen - Es ist der bisher eingängigste Titel der Reihe.

DO NOT BUY. If you liked other King's Bounty games, this is a scam. There is little to no gameplay, the areas are huge and empty. You level up mainly via turning in quests that have you travel from point A to B. They didn't even try.

Its still a King's Bounty, so its not that bad of a game. But it is clearly inferior to The Legend and to Crossworlds. It feels like it was made with little effort and I would recommend this game only if you played previous games and you really want to play something very similar.

The last King's Bounty episode (before King's Bounty II was announced) is a great addition to the series. You've taken on the role of Cavaliers of Light, then an Armored Princess, then a Nord trying to save what's left of his Viking Kingdom... and the only thing we haven't imagined ourselves portraying up till then was a Vampire. Fear not, for Dark Side does exactly that and it works so well with the adjustements the devs have had on Units and Mechanics.

This is a top-down hex-tile Tactical RPG where you play as one of three classes: The Orc Warrior, The Rogue Demoness or The Mage Vampire. It's the same King's Bounty formula; you fight enemies, gain XP, explore islands... However, the main gist is one that's quite nonsensical but brilliant: You are chased away by the forces of light from your home and set your mind into reclaiming it, destroying the light in the process. That entity that guides you is none other than The Spirit Of Dark, and with him comes the ability to recruit Skeletons, vampires, succubi, imps, demons, necromancers, orc shamans etc... Not only that, but as you explore the neighbouring islands, you'll have a chance to corrupt them by placing one of your peons as leader for each of them, granting access to altered Dark variations of Light creatures (such as the infamous Elf Ranger, who now can join the Dark Side), allowing for some weirdly funny unit combinations.

The content in this game will seem endless, but it's something you will NOT get tired of. King's Bounty: Dark Side is a great game that scratches your tactical RPG itch while you wait for King's Bounty II's release. 9.7/10 would recommend this game to all fans of the genre.

I came to this game thinking it would be another Heroes of Might and Magic clone, but it pleasantly surprised me. It uses same combat and movement around the map system like Heroes franchise, but the main difference is that you don't have your base, where you buy building and troops. King's Bounty is more RPG than strategy, where Heroes I would describe other way around. As well, you are a bad guy in this game, and the story is fine. It has a lot of humour and charm. Main story is very nicely weaved between different characters you can play. And I have to mention, that graphics style is very bright, fantasy looking and I love it. Really worth a try, even if quest systems is absurdly confusing.

Do only buy this game if you're a fan of the series. If you have not tried them, please, try King's Bounty: Crossworlds, which has the first and the 2nd game included, which are both vastly superior to this release.

Let's start with the bad:

It's terribly unbalanced. The very first time you're able to roam, you'll find extremely difficult fights, in the tutorial area. You are forced to fight a few of them, and they're frustrating as hell. After that, there are spikes of difficulty randomly placed, so prepare yourself to get at least a bit frustrated.
There are three choices as protagonists. It doesn't matter, the story changes slightly, if at all. I don't understand why they decided to create an artificial sense of choice in this matter.
The writing, and translation are horrible. For those who don't know, the developers are russian, and in this case, it seems like they decided to use Google Translator, since some phrases don't make sense at all. The story itself is uninteresting and forgettable, but I don't think it is why we like the saga, so it's not that important.
It's prone to crashes, so definitely save your game everytime you finish a fight. It's cumbersome, but there are no game breaking glitches that I've experienced.

The good:

There are a few new employable characters compared to the previous games of the saga, but the game mostly stays on the same line along the other games from it. So, if you liked the gameplay before, you'll like it now. Basically the same.
The soundtrack is lovely and catchy. It won't win an award, but it's enjoyable and immersive.
It's a long game, I'm putting this as a pro because the sense of growing in power and feeling more threatening and powerful is there, and it feels great. When you have thousands, what are a dozen worth?

All in all, it's an enjoyable game for fans of the saga. The worst of the saga, of course, but it still carries the very essence of it, so I'm recommending it.

Someone on a forum once said, these game are built on the same engine and as time progress they try to glue on new mechanics but the core can't really handle it. Its a blessing and a curse that the first game was a masterpiece. 6/10 pretty allright.

Amazing game that had me playing for years. Worth every single penny and more. If you like the series you must play it, and if you don't then you should play it anyway. This game combines the best of turn-based combat (Heroes of Might and Magic style) with an RPG-like line of quests, while playing on the bad side of the fight for once. Be an Orc, a Vampire or a Demoness, on the look for vengeance from all the pain that the Light brought to your kin. Add a pinch of dark humor to spice things up, and you get a greatest-of-all-times videogame.

Huge sequel with tons of stuff to do.

I am honest, I was going to write a bad review about this game because of many reasons, but as the game progressed, it became better and better. Although it will not look like it in this review, the game is actually fairly good!

King’s Bounty: Dark Side is the final instalment of the King’s Bounty series. Its story is fairly simple this time. The Light is taking over the world and exterminating every living creature of the Dark. You need to fight back, build a strong resistance movement, and defeat the Spirit of Light. To do this you need to perform an ungodly number of tasks, making this one of the biggest and longest games in the King’s Bounty series.

The graphics are yet again unchanged or unpolished but still look decent, although, for 2014 it is nothing special anymore.

On the sound department, the developers screwed up. When playing the game on normal speed, everything is fine, but when playing on the high combat speed setting, like most people do, the sounds are randomly disappearing, not working, half working. What the hell? This was one of the reasons I thought this game was not worth it, because you cannot hear your Demon’s axe carving away the flesh of your enemies. It was a huge let down. I heard there were some fixes, but nothing helped. I just had to deal with it or play something else.

The second reason I almost “hated” this game was the slow build up, and the immense, unbelievable, gigantic, absurd, unthinkable amounts of quests and tasks that the devs threw at me right from the beginning. I was completely overwhelmed, confused, and did not know where to start.

And that was the main reason I was about to quit this game. The quests, quest markers and info is so broken, confusing and vague, I had to look up everything online because I just could not figure out what to do. Quest markers remain active after you complete a quest, a person with a quest marker above it’s head does not give you any quests, completed quests remain in your log as if not completed, the “quest complete circle” hovers over incomplete quests and it just drove me nuts. Eventually, at the end of the game, everything fell into place, but it was really hard to keep track of it.

But after reaching level 40, the game suddenly became amazing! I found cool new loot, fought original and well thought of battles, had fun quests and I got the feeling that I was really accomplishing something here and that I was really conquering the world. It made me excited and I played for hours on edge.
Sure, the game had its errand boy quests but hey, easy experience, right?

It is a bummer that there is only one boss fight in this game, but it is not the worst thing ever or something.

This game is the most stable I have played in all the series. Not once did it crash. But everything has its price, in return, the loading times after each battle are ridiculous, it shoots to eighty percent, stalls and loads the rest in slow motion. This was less than a second in the other games.

But overall, King’s Bounty: Dark Side is good. It has a ton of original ideas, concepts, new units, cool locations, and epic battles. Despite its flaws, I think it is still a good game. For the price and what you get for it, I would surely recommend it.

Long, buggy, broken. Some good ideas but ruined by huge number of quests, some of them vital and some of them bugged. When a very important quest is bugged it is time to admit that the game isn't worth playing.

Game refuses to work on wide screens, it's quite pixelated and deformed.
I installed Armoured Princess (older) to compare, it looks far far better. Then Dark Side refused to start (Windows 10), restarted the computer, the game starts, but has lost the save game.
Refunded.

This game has everything, you have your snow white jokes, child prince jokes, characters who are begging for their life etc. so the game hooks you. But the combat system is the low point of this game. The armored princess had a better companion system and you've had more access to different kind of troops at the start. Also the game was easier due to pet dragon being more powerful than the companion in this game. The quests are confusing as well, I sometimes skip a dialog or two and the quest descriptions doesn't guide you to what you should do. I've tried this game mainly because I like the grid based combat system and the branching skill tree that the game has but I didn't enjoy the gameplay as I did with the crossworlds.

I cannot recommend a game that crashes as much as this game does. Not only crashes but also will lock up from time to time. I am so tired of accomplishing part of a quest and when I click on quest to see what is next the part of the quest I just did is shown as not being completed.

I just absolutely love the way the story is put together in this game.

You play as the dark races (vampire, demon, orc) and take on the great quest of bringing justice to all the do-gooders that have brought your people to the brink of extinction, all for glory, gold, and xp. Its a delightful parody, with a story with many wonderful side aspects, including helping a slutty vampire snow white take vengeance on 7 dwarves, having dragons give your horse wings, fooling a king into thinking a dragon is dead, perform and assassination with an exploding mop, and so on.

This kings bounty game i gave a yes to those who are fan's of the series, but the game has some big problems with it. one major one is the quests are more go and fetch. i guess if you like that type of thing its for you. plus may of the quest can be vague on what you have to do and where to go if you miss reading or forget something that was said. for the combat system its as good as the others and maybe a little better. the story i have to say i interseting but you can get easily lost with every thing you have to do.

I loved it, just expands on the formula and makes it more fun. If its too hard for you, you're playing it wrong. Try a build that allows you to keep as many troops alive as possible through resurrection. Throw summons at the enemy. You WILL have to change your gamestyle as you progress because eventually you will run out of your starter troops. Especially if you played like shit.

I love the kings bounty games but this title has to be the worst in the series thus far. To make it as simple as possible the first 5 hours of this game are garbage. It seems to get better after but i'm just not having any fun. It's not the maps, though some are very.. simple, for me the problem is the lack of choice. During the first five hours, during which you have to endure some pretty heavy texts to read, your are given no options to build an army to match your play style (or any options at all for part of it), equipment to purchase and spec out your character, or even scrolls to buy and use. I get where they were going with this but it shouldn't have been done so heavy handed and most certainly for so long. What I've played through feels rough and incomplete. If you are curious about this game and don't have the other titles yet, try those instead. If you already have them than really you just have to answer yes to two questions, do you love this series and do you have a good amount of patience.

Somewhere in 1C Software's offices in Moscow, there's some sad little gnome locked in a cage with a computer, cranking out sequels to 2008's King's Bounty: The Legend. Apparently, the only tool at his disposal is a level editor, since Armored Princess, Crossroads and Warriors of the North have been pretty much the same game over and over again. Is it any wonder that Dark Side is no different? If you've played any of the previous titles mentioned, you know exactly what to expect from this game: There's just nothing new or fresh to it, everything looks and feels like you've seen and played it before - because you have. Almost 30 hours in, I just can't bring myself to continue playing. It's just so incredibly dull. Been there, done that. Yes, King's Bounty: The Legend was great. But with each installment, each failure to actually add something new and exciting, I liked the series less and less. What were small annoyances in The Legend (the chaotic quest log, the useless maps, the horrible path finding, the inflexible camera, the small battlefields or the down-time due to travelling and restocking) have by now become major issues for me.

Please, 1C, set that sad little gnome free, hire some talented programmers and give us something really new for a change. A true sequel for once, not the same game with a new logo again.
