Tolles Design. Tolle Dialoge. Nettes Kampfsystem.

Holy Potatos we are in Space?! glänzt mit viel Humor und Spielspaß

Holy Potatoes! Not another sweatshop game!? Fear not, this time the game makers had the clairvoyance of trying to make the game more involved with less idle clicking. Unfortunately, there are still a lot of concepts which they do not understand. How a strategy game is supposed to be played for once, is violated with impunity.

We're In Space is an attempt at rendering a strategy game with simplified planet exploration and head to head ship battles. The game includes tiresome story lines divided into short chapters in which you must achieve some kind of questionable goal. The humor is biscuits and tea level, there isn't anything special about it. The excess of calories spent in reading single text lines can be promptly skipped with only the space bar. There is no option to shut them up proper.

Exploration is divided into 3-6 rounds of random encounters or ship battles. Ship battles feel clunky and poorly fixed. There is no randomly generated outcome that you can not reproduce by quitting to the main menu and replay the exploration level you've just quit. That is up to a point where you can adopt a certain strategy where your opponent chooses the wrong tactic intentionally. Ships that can just kill you by ramming don't actually do it?!? Secondly, whenever you face a ship which you could not defeat, it will come back for all remaining rounds and just ruin the entire exploration run! You've left with the options of not enjoying this stupidity, get your ass kicked or just quit to main menu and restart. As soon as you figure this out, you'll do it constantly.

The rest of the game features are decorations, because they won't ever make you better in battle as the RNG gets abused like a cheap gilly. You can set potatoes to do some research, which saps all your money and will eventually prevent you from being able to fight, as you can no longer craft weaponry. The researched techs are garbage anyway. You can craft weaponry, but if you don't use that restart trick, you'll eventually fail at everything. The balance in the game is just not a factor of enjoyment, but rather a contributor to frustration.

I feel this game was made for idealists and not for players who are looking for an entertaining experience. Defeating opponents becomes a question of whether you feel cheated or not, which is simply not recommendable at all. Pass on the potatoes, and I hope I learned my lesson with these titles.

I guess I'm just an old person but the story and humor doesn't resonate with me at all. The characters lack any kind of maturity and feels grating at times. Gameplay is not that bad and is fairly easy to grasp. Guard your weak points with your shield and hope like crazy that your shots don't miss completely.

It is a cute FTL clone that is not as good as FTL. It also lacks QOL features to speed up animation or to disable animation which I feel is key in games of this sort. You don't want to wait for long for turns to resolve, and the animations are only fun to watch the first couple of times.

Don't waste your time. Endless and completely pointless dialogue which requires clicking the space bar to move through. You will spend more time clicking through dialogue and clicking on boxes etc.. than you do playing the actual game. And all of this might be worth it if the game was actually worth playing - which it isn't, so the whole thing in very pointless and just a total waste of your time. I'm really not sure who would like this type of game. If it's for you, knock yourself out. For everyone else, don't bother, go spend your time and money on something (literally anything) else.

The game crashes whenever I try and start a new run, deleting the .exe file in the process for some reason. Ergo, despite HPWIS?! being a fun, casual (i.e. not roguelike and with a more appealing aesthetic) version of FTL in my eyes, I cannot recommend this game to anyone.

This is a casual game, for casual players. I wouldnt recommend it to myself, but I am a tough customer who wants deep and tactical games, with brutal difficulty levels. In other words, I have been playing CRPG's since their origins and have grown fond of being punished

I am sure there are some people who will really jive with the dialogue and feel of this game, but not me. The Doctor Who and Space Bar references were cute, but dialogue isnt enough to carry a game. The combat and exploration aspects, ended up being a bore (for me at least)

The game was clearly crafted with love and care, it just wasnt my cup of tea.

If you enjoyed games like Faster Than Light, Space Crew, Space Haven or any other space, crew-based game, this one you may like as well.
This game has a great sense of humour, is not that long (took mt 16 hours to complete it on the easiest mode, farming and maximing all the research and crew and guns) and you can play it in many ways.
It is challenging, even at the easiest.

Important: remember to do the research and ship upgrades :D

This game is just an endless grind. If that's what you're looking for, then I guess it's alright. Other than that... The writing is horrible, the UI is a mess, the strategic parts are laughable and the humor is cringe worthy. I hate down voting indie devs, but I barely lasted long enough with this game to get the card drops.

This game may look like a casual game to you, but no it's really not. It's pretty difficult, I had to replay first chapter multiple times to figure out a better gameplay, but even with that, the luck and randomness in-game can really screw up your effort. I haven't managed to get past to chapter 3 and I don't think I'll ever be able to beat the game in normal mode.

Pros:
-A lot of humor and references of actual people.
-Many options to adjust animation, text speed, etc.

Neutral:
-Have an 'easy mode' with unlimited turns, but it also disables achievements.

Cons:
-Auto-save only (1 from latest planet, 1 from the hub you visit last time and 1 from the beginning of a chapter)

If you enjoy the cheesy thematic writing style, there might be something here for you. But for me it's a bit lame sauce that just riffs on pop culture. Very lazy. It's certainly not the worst I've ever encountered and it's not a deal breaker, but it doesn't tip the scales for what I find to be lackluster game mechanics.
The highlight of the game is the graphics. Certainly acceptable leaning towards good. In some ways it feels like a higher fidelity FTL only it lacks the special sauce that makes that game great. The combat engine is just not nuanced enough to keep me coming back. The story and the combat just don't jive for me but I can see that they might for a lot of people if you are into cheese.
The nail in the coffin is that the UI is sub optimal. lots of useless clicking and transitions. Again, nothing ground shattering, but it all adds up to a meh experience from a potentially promising title.

Had some fun with this game which superficially looks like FTL, then realized the balance was way off. You have to grind quite a bit just to keep out with a constant stream of overtuned bosses who have ships that do not function the same way yours does. Optimal weapons seem very boring, and the luck in acquiring good ones is lame. It is permadeath, but there is only 1 story that will happen the same way everytime which is a bad mix. I never successfully escaped from a fight so if you ever get into an encounter you are not ready for you basically have to replay to that point.

The story is also mostly just cringeworthy puns and references, but i'm not big on puns either so if you have a very lenient sense of humor this may do it for you. Nothing particularly interesting happens though at least in the first few hours, just zany antics. Basically after I think 3 or 4 runs getting a max like 6 hours in there is just too much boring dialogue i'm going to have to skip through to try again. The only interesting things that happened were on random encounters too so i'm not even sure if they would come up again, and i highly doubt they will lead to anything interesting regardless.

Fun for a few dollars. Story was interesting, and it was fun to see various references reflected as Potatoes and other edibles. There's also enough variety in the weapons to make you want to try out different builds. The main downside is that the game gets easier the deeper you are in, since you get better tools and have a better understanding of the system. Towards the end, I was feeling almost no danger. However, I would say it was worth buying. I am considering doing a second playthrough to try different things.

Recommended for fans of turn-based strategy and a light-hearted space adventure. Good for those who got enough play out of FTL and would like something similar with more modern/stylized visuals. It has its issues but the price is right and it actually felt better balanced and fleshed out than FTL which is already a lot of fun.

+Ship/environment and battle visuals overall look good
+Turn-based ship battles
+Wide variety of weapons and upgrades
+Weapon crafting lets you use the weapons you want
+Weapon types have distinct differences and advantages
+Increasing energy system lets you use all your weapons
+Flexible shielding keeps you deciding on priority defense
+Tons of events and exploration
+Timers are generous enough to not feel too rushed to explore

-Character visuals don't look as good
-No voice work, tons of filler text
-Constant culture/meme references blur together
-Story never takes itself seriously enough to matter
-Balance on some battles is poor
-Enemy healing makes some battles drag out
-Many battles feel similar/repetitive

This is a fun game, with a caveat - it's very light and casual - there's not much strategic depth here. If you're a hard-core gamer you won't like it, but if you're looking for a fun comedic romp then it's good. It does become difficult at times with no clear way to proceed except to try multiple times until you get lucky. But it is amusing, good writing, lots of in-jokes, appropriate graphics, and simple to play.

It's a good game overall but has some GLARING balance issues! The stupidly restrictive Sols time limit system is the game's biggest, most prominent flaw!

Basically, you need money ($tarch) for anything and everything. A LOT of it. Whether its upgrading your ship, training and hiring new crew, researching, it all requires $tarch. More $tarch than you'll be able to gather in the time limit allowed before the bad guys get a whole lot tougher. Make the teeniest mistake starting off, and you're screwed for the rest of the game...and lets face it, starting off is where most people make the most mistakes.

RNG is also a problem when it comes to weapons. If you happen to craft C rank weapons, be prepared to fail a lot, because you'll be at a huge disadvantage. You can try crafting again, but that takes more $tarch, more resources, and more of your limited time. Time not only just to craft the weapon, but to farm the $tarch and resources required again.

Finished the game. Game starting to really come into shape when you had more weapons to choose from, more crews in your ship and have done research. This game also prevented you to grind too much with a time limit in place to prevent you from getting sick of the same universe and weapon levels. But you indeed have to grind a bit in order to have an easier time during the last battle. Fun.

Combat gets a little repetitive but made me chuckle a few times, a lot of really neat ideas that don't really have a huge impact. Not really rogue-like, has auto-saves and is quite forgiving. You'd walk away pretty satisfied around $14 AUD, would really shine on a tablet.

Comparisons to Faster Than Light are inevitable: similar to FTL, you control a ship that must traverse galaxies and the time is running out. Similar to FTL, you encounter various events and enemies. Similar to FTL, you recruit your crew, each one of them has their own strengths and weaknesses. Similar to how you loved FTL, you are going to love Holy Potatoes! We’re in space?!.

Although there’s plenty of randomness, Holy Potatoes! We’re in space?! isn't really a roguelike like FTL: the game is more plot and are objective driven. You explore the space on your starship, taking turns to move from one galaxy to another. Each galaxy has a hub, something like a shop/upgrade center, where you can buy craftable item blueprints, crafting resources, weapons, upgrade your ship modules and hire more crew.

Combat is turn-based and your ship has multiple weapons, each one controlled by a crew member, and you may choose what weapons to use. You can also assign shield to your ship components or use special abilities.

All in all - the game is fun to play. It’s a great mix of genres, offering great depth of micromanagement paired with exciting RPG battles. I highly recommend Holy Potatoes! We’re in space?!

THE GOOD
- Great humor with game and popular culture references
- Plenty of random events
- Lots of variety
- Unique Style

THE BAD
- Can get a bit repetitive
- The humor is not for everyone

8/10

This game which is space based cowboy game with pair of potato sisters on an intergalactic journey to discover the truth about their lost grandfather and escape cluthes of the evil empire

effectively combines narration, humor, gameplay and present and unusually dense portion of entertainment.

I personally didn't expected much, so maybe that's the reason why I was surprised with those challenging battles.
In this game your freedom is limited, but within its borders these potatoes embark on an interesting space adventure.
Action is very cartoony and goofy with minimal violence beyond exploding spaceships, dialogue was kept light-hearted and fun. Younger kids may miss most of the 80s sci-fi references that the story loves to hurl at you.
While exploring the universe, space sisters have to gather resources to upgrade their spaceship and create new weapons for fight while hiring potato engineers to man their ships.
Personally, I’d not want to rely on potato engineers over humans, but only because humans aren’t in danger of being eaten by aliens.

Or maybe they are. I don’t know

.
You can also shift shields to protect a specific portion of the ship (1 of 4 weapon locations], or the ship’s hull), target enemy weapons to neutralize them, or focus fire on a ship’s hull to destroy the ship.
Your pilot also has a variety of special abilities you can trigger, which can inflict damage, buff your ship, debuff the enemy, or provide various other effects.
Both Cassie and Fay have multiple abilities, and you can select which one is the acting captain/pilot before undertaking a mission.
I would rate this game -
8/10
because it's funny and interesting.
