Classic SRPG that's pretty much fun and sticking to all the old school pattern with class upgrade, hidden objects on battle field, rpg style town explore and hidden characters to collect which adds to the replayability.

I was here because i wanted to start playing another Shining series but vaguely remember the game is supposed to be SRPG and not ARPG, so I came for a quick check but ended up finishing the whole game and probably will go for other series they have on SMD Steam before i move on to play the newer ones. Glad i did too! It's fun, and the old and simple old school beats all the complex settings and story lore of the later series i guess... too complex makes them a burden to learn... I guess the simplicity is what makes the Classics so wonderful.

Easily one of my favorite games of all time! It's got magic, ninjas, cyborgs, werewolves, strategy, and a good story!

Shining Force is a unique blend of tactical combat and town exploration.

After each battle there is a new town to explore with inhabitants to talk to, weapon and item shops, and the occasional ally to join your ranks. Not only is this a great change of pace from the combat sections, but it also provides a seamless delivery of story elements. Fighting your way through different environments while recruiting a variety of creatures, from centaurs to jellyfish, to fight by you side while you utilize their differences is a lot of fun. This game is a classic and one of the strongest entries in the TRPG genre.

This along with its sequel Shining Force II is an absolutely unique mix of tactical RPG and traditional JRPG town and overworld exploration.

In pure Strategy RPGs, what you get is usually a sequence of battles separated by cutscenes. Personally, that causes me to burn out pretty fast because of the repetition. These games however have such a perfect mix of battle/exploration/story that my interest is constantly renewed. Combat can be challenging but the mechanics are light enough that it still feels relaxing to play.

The music, graphics and battle animations are great too - some of the best the Sega Genesis era had to offer, and I find they've aged rather well.

No game like this pair has been made since, even the much-famed Shining Force III dropped the overworld exploration. I dearly hope that some developer picks up the torch soon and draws inspiration from these gems.

This was one of my first dramatic rpgs on the sega cd, loved the music, couldn't beat it until I cheated with an emulator years later though.

One of the good rpgs on genesis , good story and great gameplay
The King of Turn based Rpg games, Was great then still is good now.
The Game difficulty will depends on the characters you choose and tactics used.

Ps:- There is a chain hidden behind the waterfall , pull it to end the chapter, many people get stuck there hehe, you will Know when .

The sequel Improves a lot on the original but gets complex and extremely long ,This is Starting game one should play , if getting into Turn based Rpg's

Great RPG, I would recommend this to anyone who has enjoyed playing RPGs like Fire Emblem, Breath of Fire, Final Fantasy and Golden Sun on GBA.

This has been my favorite game since I was 7 It's a turn base strategy game where you and your enemmy have a selected ammount of troops. In battle they level up. Theres a pretty decent story to it and the graphics are classic. Over all lets just say Ive played it like twenty times and its remake for the game boy advance about ten times.

YES THIS GAME IS AMAZING. I've beaten it like 3 times, it is just so much fun! For an old school game they really really did an amazing job on this one. The story was just amazing.

Classic Genesis RPG, worth the 3 bucks on its own easily. But also consider the classic pack 4, there is a lot of games of value in that little pack as well. Either way, pick up this game if you like strategy rpgs. If you have played Final Fantasy Tactics, this is kind of along the roots of where that developed from.
