Über das Spiel

Stiehl ein … Pferd

Stifte Chaos in Oldschool-Kämpfen in Top-Down-Perspektive
Benutze Schwerter, Speere, Exkremente und Armbrüste. Du magst es effizienter? Probiere heilige Handgranaten oder … Pferde.

(EDIT: Wichtiges beim ersten Erstellen vergessen. Passiert. Sorry.)

Perfektes Spiel.

statt autos, klaut man halt pferde xD.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2399841724

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2399841970

???? Gameplay

Gerade Wachen bleiben sehr gerne an Kanten hängen.

Most of the way through. Most of the other comments were right, pretty buggy and the horse controls are pretty janky. Also a gross bug of clearning the MMA arena and having it just reset if the game ever closes, which has had to happen a few times since I was bugged on the horse and couldn't get off.
The game is close to good, but can't recommend in it's current state.

If you want to forgo everything that follows, my main complaint can be boiled down to this: I feel as though this game has done a lot to play around with its silly setting and hasn't done much, gameplay-wise, to make itself stand out from a very old style of game that fell out of popularity a long time ago.

The devs clearly put a lot of work into the non-gameplay elements of this game, but I wish they'd put as much effort into the gameplay. They've taken a medieval setting and thrown in a splash of hip-hop, silly dialogue that sounds like Simlish, and a bog-standard GTA-outline of an opening story--It really is just a GTA 2 nostalgia trip and if you're looking for that then you'll enjoy this game.

Quick down and dirty of what I don't like about the gameplay:

The controls feel clunky and outdated. The camera perspective is jarring and annoying when combined with any of the movement styles available. (Side note: I would have preferred to choose my movement styles [both on foot and on horse] when I hit start game instead of when I got to them). Using differing movement styles (camera focused on foot combined with horse focused when mounted) made controlling my character feel disjointed when it's clearly supposed to be a fluid swap. Combat boiled down to facing in a direction and tapping left mouse button. Sure, there's combat rolling, but that doesn't do much to make things more fun. There's a talent tree, but it boils down to a 5% buff to damage here and a 10% buff to max health there, oh and a shit throwing related talent for the lols.

The game just feels dated and it's got a teenager's humour. Probably endearing to some people, but just kind of annoying to me.

All that said, don't let me turn you away if you think you might like it. Definitely buy it on sale, though. $25 is ridiculous and I'd say the same had I not bounced off it immediately.

A quite polished GTA-inspired nostalgia trip that has promise, but I bounced off it pretty quickly because the humour just didn't land for me.

If you like willy jokes and a bunch of blokes being rowdy with horses then you'll have a jolly good chortle.

It's disappointing that the devs of this game are releasing DLC when the base game still feels like an early access title. After enjoying the demo, I bought Rustler and found that the gameplay doesn't really get any deeper in the full game. There's very little to unlock that makes any significant gameplay difference.
I wasn't going to complain since it isn't a full price game but based on what's available so far I was expecting long term support to really flesh everything out and this DLC business is a real kick in the teeth.

EDIT: The <10 hours I have logged was enough to complete the game and see most of the content.

What a fun romp! Just a mindless medieval GTA2-styled game (in a good way), crude humour (which is not too bad, actually), lots of references, Rap Gods, slinging poop, police horses, fight clubs, flat earthers, Spanish Inquisition and cow catapults...what more do you want, really?

This is the fantasy/medieval version of Grand Theft Auto we have all always thought about, but someone actually made it!
Rustler plays very similarly to the old top down GTAs, but with added melee combat with swords, spears, and the occasional fist-full of, uh, biologically waste.
I found the game to be quite entertaining, the dialogue is pretty funny, and some of the scenarios you play through in missions can be downright hilarious. The prison break was a highlight for me. The game does use a lot of crude humor, which was sometimes a bit much for my taste, but is generally funny otherwise.
The presentation is good as well, the art for the characters looks great, the environment is nice enough, and the music is as bumping as lute music can be.
A couple things I wasn't too fond of though was that it seemed the guards would start a chase for seemingly no reason, as if they didn't like me breathing so loudly, but being able to actively lose guards by tearing down posters helped when that happened. Also, some of the upgrades you can spend skill points on are just not very useful, or feel like things you should have started with. Discounts at shops or cheaper bards just don't seem worth the points, and hiding in the woods to avoid guards feels like it should have been part of your move set to begin with.
Ignoring those few annoyances, I do think this is a game a lot of people would enjoy. I would definitely recommend trying it out.

Considering it´s on early access the game it´s actually pretty good. It delivers what was promised, took me back to the first GTA games I loved so much, but in the medieval world. Besides some buggs and movement details I really enjoyed it. The story and quests are pretty cool with some weird characters and funny dialogue lines, with a touch of dark humor ( another thing in common with GTA). The music is good, maybe not good enough but good. Overall, at least for me, it´s a fun game to play and can´t wait for new updates. I recommend it very much, even more if you enjoyed the firsts GTA games.

This open-world medieval sandbox is an easy recommendation to any fan of old-school GTA games (GTA 1, 2, Chinatown Wars)

Much like GTA, Rustler is structured around a main quest-line supported by a myriad of side quests and activities. The Protagonist, named simply 'Guy', is a bald-headed serf with big ambitions (an an undiagnosed case of sociopathy). The 'Great Tournament' is about to begin, and Nobles from across the land are gathering to compete. Guy, despite being low-blooded, is convinced by his closest friend, 'Buddy', to fake his own nobility and sneak into the tournament himself, for the fame and fortune to be won like a twisted take on 'A Knight's Tale'. To achieve this goal, Guy must complete a series of increasingly illegal tasks, which gradually open up more quests, grant the player weapons, clothing, and food to use, and eventually open up more of the map as a catchy, well-produced, soundtrack plays in the background.

And luckily, Rustler's writing is strong, witty, and full of referential gag humour. Expect to see Monty Python references abound, but carefully written as to feel like an extension of this weird, wacky world, instead of being a completely random non-sequitur. In other words, the game is funny and tells a good story.

Where Rustler majorly differs from it's inspiration is it's setting. Unlike GTA, the combat is designed around swinging swords instead of shooting slugs. There are light attacks, power attacks, blocks, parries, and a Dark Souls dodge-roll. Combat consists of bobbing and weaving your way past Guards or angry peasants, carefully planting strikes before pulling back to retreat. Ranged weapons are present too, but limited to slow, clumsy crossbows which cause the player to carefully consider their use. Add to the fact that every melee weapon comes with it's own unique moveset (and with it unique tactics), combat in Rustler has a satisfying variety.

Unfortunately, the skill system does little to add, and even downright undermines the combat. Simply put, most of the 'Skills' aren't skills, but instead passive buffs or attributes to your character such as increased health, damage, reload speed, etc. Out of the twenty 'Skills', only nine don't involve increasing a number or a percentage. This effectively means that skills generally add nothing mechanically new as time progresses. Adding 5% more damage to an attack means that the player will still be swinging their sword, still using the same tricks, tactics, and combos, repeating what they did when they first picked up the sword, over and over again, just with 5% more damage. The player does the same thing they always have, just more effectively, which is boring and frankly makes an easy game easier. However, not all is lost. One of the Skills, 'Sh!t Motion’, adds a 'Slow' debuff to throwing Dung. This effectively turns a joke weapon, collected via the trails of fuming workhorses, into an actual utility, slowing down potentially lethal squads of angry Knights and Guardsmen and giving precious seconds to think, reposition, and counter-attack.

If Rustler had more skills that added to or changed current game mechanics in a meaningful way, skills that allow the player to experiment with the game’s systems instead of cheapening them, it could potentially be elevated to the likes of an open-world 'Thief' (or at the very least, Postal with Peasants).

Sadly, everything is simulated at a micro level, meaning there is no overarching continuity with the player's actions and the game world. One could slay an entire army's worth of Guardsmen, and nothing would ultimately change, sans the player's wanted level. When you leave an area, everything resets as if nothing happened. This normally wouldn’t be an issue, as GTA shares this same design, but Rustler simply does not have the same volume of content GTA has to carry it’s nilhilist moment-to-moment gameplay. That being said, the world does feel 'alive' as peasants and Nobles walk about in their day-to-day schedules. Of course they don't actually have real schedules, but the veneer is polished enough that players looking for a 'Los Santos Medieval'-vibe will happily get it.

TLDR: Rustler is a game that is worth your time. Despite limitations in the game's design, Rustler carries itself with it's personality and presentation. Pick it up if you are dying for a classic open-world game, or have a free weekend to kill.

Once I got the hang of the controls, the game is very fun.

I am having a lot of fun with this game. It is relaxing at times and not frustrating at all. It is obvious where it is inspired from.

The graphics reminds me of shadow tactics. It is very pleasant to look at.

The sound in this game is relaxing. The birds and the nature ahhh. The music of the barde is very funny.

The combat is good but needs more work besides the bug fixing. I would like to see more fighting techniques, not just hit and block. I am enjoying it so far.

The humor in this game is spot on. I had moments when I laughed out loud.

I am enjoyng the quests and the mini games. They are actually not boring. I would like to see also mini games with gang fights and more mini games involving fighting.

The highlight of the game is the horse riding. My God, this is so immersive. Great job!

What I would like to see is a day and night cycle, rain, and maybe snow, if it is not to hard to implement. I would like to see Guy jump and not only dodge. I would like to see the horse jump, maybe as a skill. I wish for a bigger map. I would like to hear more background voices but keep the mumbling, it is very funny.

There are still some bugs, but not game breaking. I am trying to report them, when I catch them.

The game is in early access and I recommend it. I like very much the fact that the developer cares what the gamers have to say, he is trying to solve the problems and satisfy the gamers needs. He is constatly replying to the gamers, which is not an easy task. It is the first time that I see this. Congratulations for this game and keep up the good work till the end!

P. S. By progressing with the game, I am starting to care about Guy and the story that he is in. It makes me curious and curious.

Played through and did a decent amount of the side content. Cutting to the chase, do I think it's worth $25 in its current state? I've played better. The bubble around you when passing through the woods is jarring, the controls aren't the most responsive, and some of the story elements and dialogue are hackey, even as jokes, callbacks or pop-culture references. I still think it's worth picking up on sale, and overall with some tweaks and continued support I can see this game becoming a bit of a cult classic, riding the kaboose behind original top down GTA titles such as GTA 2 and Chinatown Wars.

Overall, a fun experience, a bit shallow, get it on sale.

It might be a bit buggy here and there and maybe you need to restart some of the quests because of some weird fighting mechanics but all in all it is just super funny and interesting to play.

The game seems ok however there's no checkpoints. if you fail a mission you have to restart the entire thing from the beginning. seems broken to me tbh. despite how cool the game is I can't recommend this game to others or give it any stars until it saves progress. Im considering getting a refund or using a cheat engine so I dont have to restart, which will break the game and defeat the purpose of playing. As it stands, its a demo to a possible real game in the future.

The humour in this game cracks me up. Many crazy crazy quests. Active developers that frequently update the game, and are willing to listen to new ideas.
Practically with each update I discover new buildings and features. New funny twists that keep me coming back.

This game has the potential to become a true gem, and simply does not get all the attention it deserves. Keep the updates comming please!!

I still do not have a ton under my belt playing the game. RL get's in the way.
As I progress I will update my post.

A humorous and enjoyable top down open world game with a classic GTA 1 feeling but with a nice medieval environment and soundtrack.
In Rustler you will also have to unlock a part of the world later in the game by following the campaign.

Just like the cars in GTA can drive faster or slower, in Rustler you will also find faster and slower horses, my favorite was the one with the red, with that you can ride very fast, a bit of a ferrari horse.
Hitting people with a horse is both funny and difficult because when you are in a city it is very easy to hit someone and then you immediately have the 'police' after you. (The city kinda have traffic rules, if you follow those you might not hit anyone)
When you have the police chasing you, you will notice that it is difficult to escape from it, it took me a while to realize that even your horse has a sprint function.
I have noticed from negative reviews that not everyone found this in the end so I would like to mention it anyway.
Oh, and the good old trick where you can trick the police by giving your vehicle a different color, also applies in Rustler under the company name 'Paint-A-Horse'

Rustler is in my opinion worth playing, many details are funny, the missions are also very often put together funny with dry dark humor.
What I'm less excited about is about the outline of the world, regardless of the fun you can find there at the moment, the world doesn't feel that big, a larger world would be very interesting in a game like this to take the exploration part to the next level.

Let me preface this by saying I love the concept and world of Rustler, and I understand fully that it is a game that was just opened for Early Access.

However, I simply cannot recommend it at this time. I played this game for about 25 minutes and immediately found myself infuriated enough to leave and write this review. I decided to try it out on the easiest difficulty, just to really ease myself into the pool, so to speak. Now, I did not expect a cakewalk, but I also did not expect the rather poor experience I received. Not only does the game kick you right in the sack by forcing you to reload an entire quest after you fail through some BS circumstance, it's also brutal in the sense that trying to run from the guards, even on a horse-drawn cart, is damn near impossible. The guard horses seem far faster than anything you can really get, and every time you try to run, there are fifty other civilians getting in your bloody way and immediately stopping you in your tracks, allowing the guard in question to just blitz over and continuously whittle you down until you get condemned, forcing you to do the entire quest over again.

This game has immense promise, and if it weren't for this experience, I'd have given it towering praise and recommendations. I love the humor, the references, the dialogue, and the story. The world immersed me greatly, and I would love to have played this for longer before becoming frustrated enough to outright quit. But, the gameplay needs to undergo some big improvements before such things can happen. I understand that it is in Early Access, hence why I've tried to make it clear that one should not buy it just yet. This was my experience with Rustler. I hope nobody else had a poor time like I did, as this game shows a lot of good potential.

As improvements are made and the game is eased out of Early Access, I would be more than glad to revisit this game and hopefully change my review. As of now, though, I shall simply have to wait and see. It's been a pleasure, and I wish the developers nothing but the best.

fix your god aweful save system and il change to a positive. the whole doing an entire quest then getting jailed afterward only to reload to have to redo the entire quest again is abysmal and ruins the fun.

After 80 minutes the game is just annoyingly not fun. The fighting seems impossibly difficult and it takes too long to kill anyone (unless you have the crossbow, but then you can't run and reload it so you end up dying anyway). Bards are too quiet, until you get right next to them and then the volume goes up 3000%

I may purchase it again once it's out of early access but for now I wouldn't recommend buying it

This game is amazing, if you like Grand Theft Auto 1-2, then you will most likely enjoy this one!

i remember when i got GTA 1 on a Demo disc when i was 11 or so, i played it like a maniac!
i feel like i will play this like a maniac as well xD

as people have said, saving function can be a bit tedious, i personally find it to be not so bad... you just have to survive hehe,

i mean..... stealing horses, launch cows, old ages gta style, kill, paint a horse, silly quests. what more can you ask for!?
graphics are good, controls are good, music are good.

i don't have much negative to say for now, since i just started, hope i wont >^_^<

Last.... it is EA and i was disappointed that i thought the full game would be released...
BUT!!! it isn't really a bad thing :)

i for sure love it and will play it like i did gta 1 as a 11 year old maniac!
