Über das Spiel

In Duskers you pilot drones into derelict spaceships to find the means to survive and piece together how the universe became a giant graveyard.

You are a drone operator, surrounded by old gritty tech that acts as your only eyes and ears to the outside world. What you hear comes through a remote microphone. What you see is how each drone sees the world. Motion sensors tell you something's out there, but not what. And when you issue commands, you do it through a command line interface.

You have to earn everything in Duskers, scavenging drone upgrades, drones, and even ship upgrades. But dangerous creatures lurk in these derelict ships, and weapons are rare, so you may need to think of a clever way to explore a military outpost using only a motion sensor and a lure.

But even if you find a way, the sensor that you rely on may break down, or you may run out of lures, even your drone's camera feed can start to fail. A favorite strategy can't be exploited for long, so you'll have to continually adapt.

Duskers is set in a procedurally generated Universe, and when you die you lose everything. You not only need to worry about what hazards lay waiting for you in the derelicts, but also running out of fuel, or parts to modify your drones and ship.

You are alone, isolated in the dark reaches of space. Only by sifting through what ship logs remain un-corrupted can you piece together what happened.

Features:
 • Use a Command Line Interface to control drones & ship systems
 • Explore procedurally generated derelict ships and universe
 • Upgrade and modify drones with the salvage you find
 • Discover ship logs and piece together what happened

Great low-key strategy game with atmosphere that makes you really feel like you are in the fading empire of a space-based empire.

When you start to feel it's a little repetitive, and have a rithm going, everything goes to shit in a moment and you start to panic, making it even worse! have you ever imagined typing for dear life? well, now you can do it!

Even with simple vector-like graphics, it still jump-scares me every now and then. It can get really hard, and makes you have to plan and think long term. The aesthetic, the ambiance... for me it's perfect. I only wish there was a multiplayer mode. Maybe in Duskers 2?

Interesting game that require planning and the ability to quickly react to catastrophic events. Often you will require to think out of the box to solve the puzzle and random situations.

I would definitely recommend this game because of how original the gameplay is, but I think the concept falls flat about midway through. The fear factor wears off, and the game becomes incredibly grindy and repetitive. Definitely worth playing though - there is nothing quite like it out there.

Thoroughly recommended.

While it definitely isn't for everyone, Duskers is a surprisingly captivating little game (in my opinion). The gameplay loop is prone to getting stale after a while, but I personally don't mind it all that much. Completing the various storylines keeps me going.

Speaking of which: The main goal isn't to escape to safety, or to set a new PB, its to put the pieces together and figure out what happened to the universe. Trying to piece together the story so far has been extremely entertaining, and seeing notable improvement in my gameplay has also been fun to watch.

Even if you're not sure this game is for you, its worth a shot. And I'd say the $20 price tag is quite justified. Best played at night with the lights turned off for maximum immersion!

Duskers isn't the kind of game where you win.
Duskers isn't the kind of game with a happy ending.
Instead it's the kind of game where you search
for light
for life
for hope
but none is found.
It's the kind of game where you search the radio channels for any communications, but all you find is static.
It's the kind of game where you realize there are fates worse than death.
If that isn't your cup of tea, I'd suggest looking elsewhere.

It's okay. It's pretty fun initially while you learn how to play and are introduced to some of the interesting tools that you can discover and equip to your drones but then... that's basically the whole game. It's disappointing because I was pretty jazzed on this game when I first saw it's unique command-line style interface and saw it was roguelike but I really think it needs something more.

If you don't get good RNG then you will end up with drones that can't safely survey rooms. That ends up forcing you to take risks or you will run out of fuel and your progression will stagnate. This can occasionally feel kind of unfair especially when you have modules that you were relying on fail earlier than seems appropriate. Risk can be fun in a roguelike but in my opinion makes this slower paced game feel frustrating when you hit a death spiral. The game attempts to compensate for this by not resetting your story progress after you fail a run. This kind of takes the tension out of the roguelike elements.

I think that this game would benefit from deeper and more diversified gameplay. Using FTL as an example, there could be some alternate strategies with offence-oriented ship upgrades, or maybe some deeper programming interface items to supplement the 'alias' file, something to make the gameplay feel more diverse. Most importantly there needs to be better RUN progression where there feels like there is really great rewards for just staying alive and keeping the run going.

Amazing game, I really want an Alien/Aliens game just like this, seriously tense and really makes use of your imagination too thanks to the SFX - also the clunky drones are realistic too and make you think hard before each move, that is until something pushes you and its make or break. Speaking of which , nothing like accidentally opening an airlock with your favourite life line modded drones standing next to it PSHHHHHH WOMP!!! - good bye Huey, Luey and Dewy ... gonna miss ya pals!

Not bad but doesn't seem to be too much depth to it, or more that there's not much variety in gameplay. Very atmospheric though and worth a shot, but I didn't have the patience to continue once things went wrong.

Salvage #122 was proceeding as normal; I'd just spaced the only threats on Martin's scopes. So, feeling confident, I typed `open all` (doors) to speed up the scrap collection. A minute later the alarms blared: in an instant, Dora was disabled. Martin, listening for motion nearby, fell next—destroyed by an unseen attacker. I watched in horror through Jenn's eyes as the monstrous red shape disabled her before it continued prowling. Topher, the sole survivor, managed to sneak past the monster and grab some lures from Dora, which he then planted in a far-off room. When they went off, Topher grabbed Jenn's generator and managed to close off the doors. From there I routed the attacker in my own ship's airlock and then ferried it to an isolated part of the derelict where it remains trapped to this day. That gave our hero Topher a safe corridor to drag Dora and Jenn to safety. With heavy hearts we consigned Martin's body to rest eternal within that infernal rusting space hulk.

So yeah, it's a good game.

Excellent game. I first played it years ago but gave up when I encountered that one late game enemy everyone complains about and it seemed to be everywhere! Tried again more recently and found it's not nearly as bad as it looks and really enjoyed the game. There's a lot of depth to the resource management and tactics using various combinations of ship/drone upgrades.

Only complaints would be that there isn't much of an ending and sometimes I couldn't tell if I'd hit the end of a quest line or needed to do something to unlock the next objective.

Ever since this game came out, I've enjoyed the game quite a bit. It scratches a pseudo-programming exploration itch in a way no other game can with a desperate setting that I personally enjoy quite a bit. It's not perfect and it needs a little bit more variety, but with the recent difficulty settings I think all of the most annoying parts of the game can be tweaked out in options now, so I definitely recommend it on that alone.

But forget all of that. In a game that came out literal years ago, I ran into a bug that was causing me to see repeated story logs and that was blocking me from completing the new achievements, and I was crushed. I posted it to the Steam forum, and the developer of the game reached out to me and not only diagnosed the bug, but also fixed my save data and sent it back my way. Never in my wildest dreams did I expect this fellow to go so far out of his way to help me, a random player, that I was genuinely moved by the act. Regardless of anything else positive I could say about the game, it deserves a positive review for just how much of a champion the developer is. Seriously.

Command terminal gameplay is really unique and very well implemented, allowing you to command several drones at the same time. Scary and exciting, with strong sense of isolation and fragility. It's more Alien than Alien franchise itself!
Played this for two weeks in my quarantine, one of the most inventive indie creations ever.

Hope there will be a sequel. I would love to see something like a modeled 3D cockpit of my ship where you can walk around and access terminals and functions, or upgrade drones in the hangar before sending them on another mission.

Great game
Very hard if you mistype often and don't turn slime off
(you should)
Quick tips;
AVOID VENTS (they spawn swarms if swarms exist on the ship)
If you want to be informed about the pain in the ass slime are here you go;
1: they go thru walls and doors
2:they slow the shit out of your drones
3:they don't die to radiation
4:they spread fast (and i mean FAST)
5:they do huge damage if they are not disabled
number of infestations is not = total hostiles, just says how many different types are on the ship
Age = RNG disaster rate (Radiation pipe leaks, airlock seals breaking)
How to beat / minimize damage from disasters
airlock seals can be stabilized my your docking ship
before a pipe breaks there will be a loud creaking noise throughout the ship
Radiation from a pipe leaking will still spread thru doors if open
--------
Defense guns
your best friend until you forget they are on
they kill Anything almost instantly (Big focus on ANY)
a full slime horde?
Gone
your 320 HP drone?
Gone
they are activated by the interface terminals around the map
Military ships always have defense guns
----
auto-traders
if they have no jump fuel for sale you can pay a higher price to have it craft some
NOTE:you can not craft jump fuel yourself so don't ask why you cant find it in the create menu
never trust motion sensor
never assume a room is clear
don't fix gather, tow or generator just let them break you can craft them for less than the cost to fix them
have a fun time
10/10 great game

Way better than I have expected and probably way better than you expect as well. Don't judge this game by its simplistic visuals, the gameplay is absolutely stellar. Give it a try and you'll see that you'll quickly lose yourself in the game and get invested in it for hours. This is a weird one. If I were to describe it to you, you probably wouldn't find it fun. Purposefully clunky controls, purposefully clunky UI, and brutal gameplay that occasionally recquires you to think, plan, and type with impeccable accuracy to mitigate fast moving disasters.

So why do I have 50+ hours?

If I were to give one reason, it would be the Alias command. Basically, the game lets you program your own macros. Any problem the game throws at you can be almost entirely mitigated as long as you prepare the right commands in advance. Experienced players may have 20 or more custom commands, and no two players will have the exact same list.

A lot of factors need to be considered when creating a new command: Is it easy to type? What's the worst case scenario if it gets mistyped? Is it memorable enough to work in an emergency? Could autocomplete confuse it with a different command? Can I type it with just my left hand (so the right can focus on the arrow keys) or just the right hand (so my left hand can use the numbers 1-4 to select the right drone?), or does it recquire both hands? Does the macro make any assumptions about whether drones can access the shuttle, or which tools are installed on which drones?

This is a fun one.

Rarely does a game embrace the player's interface as a tool of immersion- frantically typing commands when the proverbial shit goes sideways pulls you into the game's world and firmly shuts the door on the 4th wall behind you. Which immediately malfunctions, and doesn't answer to commands. And the airlock is about to fail, but the drones are too far in the derelict to make it back to the ship, and there's three uncharted rooms between them and a2, and your motion scanner just croaked it's last. You start typing the commands, and unconsciously start praying. Because that's all you can do.

The biggest weakness of the game is story, or lack thereof. It doesn't end, there's no goal, and sooner than you'd hope, the gameplay gets repetitive, and you put the game away for a few months, return to it and remember how cool it is before you get bored again, and the circle repeats itself. However, every time I pick it up again I love it just as much as I did the first time, and that is a rare thing these days.

I hold a wish for a sequel with a story mode. But in the meanwhile, I type commands, and I pray.

This game is good at getting you attached to your cute little drones, only to make you watch in horror as they are torn to pieces and left to die alone on a creepy starship in the middle of outer space just because you thought that one insignificant room was safe.

The highest victory is, of course, looting an entire ship with just the console commands. :p

In all seriousness, this game has a simple premise that is executed upon beautifully. Sort of a fusion between exploration, puzzle solving, resource-management and real-time risk mitigation. You'll be thinking about a clever way to clear out enemies in a room when suddenly your console tells you an asteroid impact is en-route in 3 minutes. Or that an airlock will fail in the next 60 seconds. Or that doors will no longer respond to the 'close' command.

It's in these sweat-inducing, high-stakes moments where you are forced to make decisions quickly that the game really shines. I also really enjoy the customization aspect of drones and the ability to swap upgrades between them. Overall, A+.

The trailer does this game a disservice. Going in, I was concerned that the game would become an IT's worst nightmare, where you need to hammer out commands and one wrong command spells gameover. But the game is completely different than that. You aren't going to be mashing the keyboard and rushing out commands as enemies close in; instead it's slow-paced almost puzzle-like where you think about what tools you have, weigh the risks and then execute your plan.

This is not an action game. Every tool you have(even weapons) is designed in a way where it's set up and left and fast typing is not required.

Game economy is not sustainable or balanced. You're expected to use what you have until it breaks (it breaks fast) and replace with RNG items that you find. This can lead to you missing critical items and most of the time results in very short games before you reset. I personally don't enjoy constantly restarting and feeling like I'm being punished for playing the game.

During sales, it's a no brainer purchase choice!

-Into and pros-
In Duskers, you can operate your scavenging drones through command lines or 3rd person with top down view. It's atmospheric as hell, the creepy old tech feeling is great, there are plenty of random events that will make you get used to adapt during each docking.

-Cons (with spoiler)-
The game hasn't an ending, even if you find all the logs... this isn't an issue, unless you were trying to get to the end eventually and then figured this out through forums.. which was I did haha
... even though, the game is great and unique, and each run feels new due to numerous circumstances you find yourself in.

Very good at being terrifying. and the best kind of horror too, all the scares only show up because you know you made a risk far more devastating than anticipated. absolutly amazing at selling the atmosphere too.

Very fun game, love to use the terminal to control the bots. However, I have bought this game in 2016 and there have not been any updates to the game. The first couple of rooms are fun to play through. However, there is no actual objective rather than to try and survive.

This game is worth much more than the developers give it. Sad to not see any progression to the game. It is a fun game nevertheless, but lacking that extra detail.

Risked all my precious drones on a rescue op to save a single drone that held some of my best items, heart pumping as I watched each command being executed successfully in the terminal and just barely made it out alive before the entire ship got destroyed by asteroids.

Really makes you appreciate alias.

It's like command prompt but scary. Mini-maxing and create long strings of code to solve situations. The game play is like learning a programming language, except not as hard as that would actually be and also under high tension. It is a deeply unnerving game, you should go in blind if you want to get the most out of it. Make all the discoveries yourself, it also means you can fail and make multiple runs (rather than what I did where I learnt one of the enemy variants too early and then rolled everything after the fact because I was looking to see if there were more logs).

The game does feel a bit barren after a while and the excitement of discovery fades however the tension never stops to ramp up until you become fully resource stable; even then you're still not entirely safe. The game can always throw in elements that make you nervous. The game feeling kinda content barren may actually reinforce the narrative but I think that this game has the ability to do so much more. It is shame that it is sort of small.

IT NEEDS MODDING TOOLS!!!
It is a shame it is so niche.

The writing is amazing and chilling, I just wanted more content. Hardly a complaint but I did get tired of doing the exact same thing over and over and over just to get the last log. It is a haunting experience from start to finish.

Dusk means sunset therefore Duskers must means someone/something that is sunsetting. I feel uneasy.

Duskers is a very big surprise to the horror genre. It takes on a complete different path to how it fits in to video game. It is a text based movement game, using a console command line to navigate and best way to move around, you are left with little information to what has happened but off the bat you feel alone and off. The story not being the main attraction point of the story is greatly upheld by the game-play mechanics.

You control a maximum of 4 drones, starting with 3, searching an empty and randomized universe, meaning all play-throughs are different, equipment is comepletly customizable for each drone exploring anyone's play-style. The lack of music is frightening as it is only repalces with eerie sounds when searching ships and the mechanical buzzes of drones and beeps of the UI when you do something. Choosing to evade/eliminate hostiles on the ship to not lose lessen risk of losing a done (If a drone breaks, you do not get it back unless you go pick it up and spend resources to fix it). The gameplay and enemy types vary depending on your situation but their are multiple resoruces to help you learn. You can learn more about what happened by collecting ship logs.

The Positives-
- It is a very VERY re-playable game.
- It is a low hardware demanding game, it can run on almost any laptop/PC device with no problems.
- The lack of comfort in the game, it anchors you to the game making you worry when you need to.
- The strategy, almost like a 'chess' game, in how to get rid of hostiles and make your way around obstacles.
- The time in which it takes to do 'one mission' can vary.
- The challenge system that makes you make new lines of code to work in different situations.
- It is a very offline friendly game, meaning you can play it almost anywhere.

The Negatives-
- There isn't much more to the story/game-play other than what makes it good, meaning that even though it is re-playable, it doesn't change the way what happens, only how you do it.
- If you do not have too much time, playing a game can't be possible.
- The lack of the player-base.
- New content like random events that can happen that brings the community to either work together/against each other to gain a reward.

Conclusion-

I highly recommend this game for those who like to think. I cannot relate this to another game that i have played because it is just that new and strange to the gaming scene. Time and love was put into the game and even if you are unsure, play under 2 hours of the game at least, as it is so interesting.

Hope this was helpful!

This game is so fucking stressful but it's so fun! The CLI controls are definitely weird at first, but very helpful once you get used to them. The aesthetics and overall vibe and atmosphere are absolutey fucking phenomenal. Gameplay can drag on if you're slow like me, but you are involved the whole damn time, so there's never a full moment.

Also — this game is hard. Really, really fucking hard. Once you get past the easy starting universe and into the harder stuff......oh boy.

Had four drones — one was killed by a surprise swarm, the other disabled shortly after. Tried to pull a risky move that involved getting one drone into that room to rescue the disabled one while also immediately venting out the swarm or the towing drone would immediately be killed, and quickly closing the doors again so the drones didn't fly into space.

Was just a hair too slow with my commands — and I blasted everything out of the room immediately.

Started the mission with four drones, left with one. God damn.

Very hard. Very scary. Very worth it.

Let me start off by saying, Disable the Nanoswarms! you can do so from options.
Then you can play through and grow feeling the system is a ton more fair and respectful of your time investment.
After that, if your still having a rough time of it. ZipUp your save files. This is a Rogue Like, but if you zip your saves, you can load them back in while the game is off.
(if you disable steam cloud saving for this title, unzipping your prior save will be easier for you.)

I really enjoyed Duskers. It had rewards that felt worth it. It has a atmosphere that kept things dark and scary allowing more immersive attachment. with the swarms off, and a bit of zipped save recovery, i was able to get better at the game get a feel for it. and embrace the instruction 'programming' enough to enjoy the live-action strategy-chess element of the game.
I really just love the atmosphere, the worry about when things will turn bad. and if ill be able to type out commands fast enough to salvage the situation. Those disable-able nanoSwarms really brought the game from Not-recommended ????︎, to Recommended ????

Im also interested in more info on that paper based game Scavenger, from this Dev. Dev! don't hate me for dungeon crawling your game! >u<;

Wow, a dungeon crawler like game with a somewhat eerie sci-fi atmosphere, and a somewhat hardcore system, (unless you tweak the settings). Not having played many dungeon crawlers, but having come from Dungeon of the endless recently, the formula is somewhat familiar. I personally enjoy resetting upon death, (unless you tweak the settings), although I have yet to die in my short span I have been playing the game, (just today). It adds just a bit more immersion for the hardcore factor along with being alone in a desolate space inhabited by alien monster life forms in the remains of stations and ships once inhabited by a human colony, or possibly the mia human race, that by the logs and points of interests are presumably dead except for the survivor. The focus is around a sole known human survivor looking for other survivors, uncovering what caused the presumable mass extinction, and scavenging resources in the process of salvaging their own existence. The only plot hole that isn't evident at start, is where was this survivor when it all happened that he isn't conscious of his fellow human's fate and why was he seemingly isolated from every existing person? If it's part of the ending, I would really like to know why. Maintaining logs between playthroughs is the constant of the game that helps piece together what happened in a procedurally generated universe.

This is a game with interesting concept. It simulates well the atmosphere of the story, being isolated in space and relying on the command prompt or the grapichal UI from the drones camera feed. You don't always know the enemy(ies) you are facing though you can make some assumptions after a few games based on some factors. The fact that ships and upgrades wear is a nice touch as well.

But you know most of it; this game is reviewed a thousand times with positive review. The main reason I wanted to write this review is to let you know that issues on most negative reviews have been fixed by the devs. Most of the negative reviews mentions:

- Perma-death: It is FIXED by the devs, the game is intended to be played on permadeath however if you don't like it, you can turn it off

- Starting ships similar OR Starting ships too hard. FIXED. As you can see, there are player who complain either that the starting few ships are too similar OR too hard (due to the world staying at the same diff after you die). This has been fixed. You can turn on/off setting to play the game as you like.

- No save feature. FIXED. The devs included a way to save in an ironman like situation. They have also include a solution for corrupted saves.

- There are other options added to the game to make it easier / more difficult etc..

In short, buy this game on regular or on sale as it doesn't cost much. I have 6 hours as of I am typing this reveiw and I can tell that the game is good for another 6-8 hours to keep you entertained though this may vary based on personal preferences.

Talk about a blast form the past. No mousey moves on this! It's all keyboard baby! Just like the old DOS games! You got to plan it out to keep your drones alive and herd those little bastard aliens to a place where you can manage them. Preferably to an active ship turret with a pretense to paint the room with alien guts.

I bounced hard off this game. The concept is wonderful; navigating drones through highly atmospheric abandoned spaceships in search of the materials you need to survive and return your own ailing vessel to safety. This is achieved by typing code-style commands, hitting enter, and hoping you haven’t made any mistakes as you watch your drones carry out your orders. Abandoned spaceships as filled with a variety of hazards, from radiation to murderous aliens, that your drones can usually overcome with sufficient care and forethought. The retro-futurist aesthetic and wonderful sound design lends proceedings superb atmosphere, in the vein of ‘Alien’ and ‘Event Horizon.’

Unfortunately, aspects of the game design quickly rendered Duskers arduous and, frankly, unenjoyable. Permadeath and an inability to save, but without any randomisation, and little room for error, means every mistake sends you back to the beginning, to repeat the same first few levels over and over again. The text-based command line takes time and effort to learn; it’s easy to make a small error that results in your best drone being destroyed, and effectively crippling that run. A degree of harshness is likely needed to maintain the Duskers’ atmosphere, but when a slip-up sent me back to repeat the early stages yet again, I walked away from this game and never returned.

I have less free time than I’d like for gaming, and whilst I’m happy to put work in to enjoy something complex or challenging, Duskers’ permadeath, repetitive early game, punishing intolerance of easily-made mistakes, and deliberately inaccessible interface left this feeling like a chore. Others with greater patience or aptitude will likely find something here to enjoy, but sadly I cannot personally recommend Duskers.

This is one of my favorite games of that year, as the tension, atmosphere and design is really smart and effective.

But idk, it just feels empty? Like there should be more here but there isn't. You've pretty much played the whole game by the 4th system, and there's no ending or resolution to the plot. In that way, it feels unfinished, but it's still a really good game

Pleasantly terrifying game with a programming gimmick in space. Turns out you get attached to all kinds of things when everything that could potentially talk back to you is trying to kill you. Especially when the things have names. Various upgrades can make your life a little easier, but none of them work 100% of the time and the dread of their eventual failure is partially what pushes you towards your goal.
It's a game trying to realistically portray exploring a post-apocalyptic universe, so be prepared for the eventual aliens, be prepared for loosing your drones, be prepared for radiation damage and don't open airlocks unless you're OK with stuff flying out of the ship and be irretrievably lost to the vast emptiness outside. But despite all of that, you, your expectations, your fears and your lack of preparation are your own worst enemy. So don't panic.
There are enemies that don't move.

There are enemies that can damage doors.

There are enemies crawling in the vents.

There are most likely enemies in your own ship if you left the door open.

For every ability to detect enemies, there is a type that bypasses it.

There is a reset, but there is no reset.
One of the most terrifying games I ever played, Duskers is a survival stategy sci-fi horror masterpiece of a game. It's very polished for being made by a small group. If you get this, turn off the lights, grab a cup of coffee and have an ambulance on standby because you'll either die from a heart attack or burn yourself with coffee after jumping. A definite reccommend for the average horror fan.

Flawed masterpiece; definitely worth checking out if you enjoy rogue-lites despite some shortcomings.

The Good
-lots of different upgrades to equip your drones and ships with; even after 30+ hours I was still discovering new combos I could use to explore derelicts more safely/efficiently
-great visuals and sound design; having unique filters for different drones is a nice touch
-unlike many rogue-lites I've played, progress/survival in Duskers depends a lot less on blind luck/metagame knowledge. You always start off with more than enough tools to 'make it' in the game; once you have experience with the upgrades/enemies, you can usually make each run last quite a long time. If you have to reset, it's almost always because you took an unnecessary risk or misread a situation
-challenging but fair objectives that are satisfying to overcome
-minimalist storytelling through transmission logs that persist from run to run, so even when you 'lose', you still keep all your previous progress in terms of what you've learned and uncovered

The Bad
-some of the upgrades could use more balance, particularly the permanent ship upgrades, which are so situation-specific that they're almost never worth having (eg Collector generally makes life easier no matter what your objectives are, while Overload and Cannon are next to useless most of the time)
-drone pathfinding can be somewhat wonky and unreliable at times, especially when obstacles or narrow passages are involved. Can be annoying to have to take over in these situations
-would be nice to have more commands for more complex behaviours like sweeping rooms; very common to have your 'generator' drone stall out with the 'begin' command because they simply didn't look around for the generator.
-
the ending, or lack thereof, is pretty disappointing and makes me suspect the developers were rushed and/or couldn't be bothered to figure one out. In my mind, it would have made perfect sense to trigger a 'final' objective once all the initial threads are resolved that leads you to the true source of the disaster; perhaps initiated by the player themselves somehow. As it stands, unfortunately, you pretty much have the same questions at the beginning of the game as you do 100+ hours in, and have no hope of ever answering any of them, which isn't terribly satisfying
As far as other reviews states, at the time of this review I've yet to encounter any gamebreaking bugs either. Everything has gone smooth and it's been a super enjoyable experience. I highly recommend this to anyone who likes rogue-like, strategy, or games where you type into a console.

Just started, good game, still some bugs, nothing really bad. On the first system, I had a map with a turret that I forgot to deactivate, so it shot bot3 dead ...now it blocks the door from closing, bot2 comes to try and swap modules with it, but the swap menu magically accesses bot4 which is busy powering a generator 10 feet away from the accident scene. I had to get another bot to come take over power generation, use bot4 to swap and get the tow module, give that module to bot2 so it can drag bot3 back to docking bay. One of the bots did have teleport module, but I don't think it was supposed to allow swap teleportation. 4/5 stars if I had to vote.

Your drones are your only eyes and ears to the desolate derelicts of space, all holding something to help you make it a little further and some sort of information on why everyone's gone. You feel the loneliness it portrays and the absolute terror as doors fail, pipes burst, monsters fall upon your drones, the whirring of security drones, and the utter hopelessness if you manage to become stranded in space. Now, I know what question you're asking, and I have the answer.

Q: Is this game worth $20 of your sweet, sweet cash?
(Answer from the last two brain cells I have left) YES. FUCKING. DO IT.
Legit Answer: It depends on just how broke you may be, fellow gamer. If you have the cash to spare, absolutely. If you don't come into some spare game cash often, no, wait for a sale first. I get it, $20 dollars for a game the developers may never touch again. But $10 or mayyybe $15? Fuck yeah, totally worth it. That's what I paid, and I don't regret a single dime.

I've only played 3 hours at the time of review, I know, I know. But I don't plan on putting this game down for a good while.

But this game is a fucking masterpiece that I wish the developer or honestly ANYONE could come back to. There are people in the community who are making unofficial patches to the game though, so fear not. Here are a few tips for people who I've managed to convince to buy this game though (and a deeper immersion guide):

- PLAY THE DRONE OPERATOR TRAINING!!!
This game is challenging, but not impossible. Without the tutorial, it is impossible. I'm the type that just dives into the game head first, but I was told that you couldn't do that with this game, and they were right. Don't skip it to look cool either, you'll end up refunding the game after about 20 minutes.

- Pay attention to detail, plan accordingly, but don't take your sweet ass time.
This game offers information to those who seek it. Use every bit to your advantage, plan every approach, but don't take too long - especially in ships that are Volatile/200+ years old. Disaster will strike anytime after 2 minutes, and from there, it's a downward spiral to hell.

- Sound is your friend, if you can pick it apart.
Yes, I am aware of how shitty the drone video and audio feeds are, but they're still useful. The audio is directional, so it helps if you face your drone north and listen closely. You can hear enemies in the next room and other things, and there are bullshit noises that will spook the hell out of you, so there's that.

- USE THE DEGAUSS COMMAND!
The Degauss command is a godsend. If your drone feed is a bit glitchy/weird, you can use this command to fix the feed in 1 second. It doesn't work if the feed isn't coming up at all though. This will make sense once you play the game by the way, not so much right now.

- Don't be afraid to Reset.
There is no 'death' screen. Whether you're dead or not is up to you. You're stuck there in space with no working drones or fuel or whatever, RESET. Resetting resets everything but your objectives/logs and player statistics. When a run is done, it's done. Oh, there's nothing more you can do? Welp, better reset, it's over. It's over when you say it is, so last as long and get as far as you can.

- Don't be afraid to nope the hell outta there.
It's A-OK to be afraid of losing your beloved drones, so if you don't think it's worth the danger, gtfo. If you run out of propulsion fuel, just jump to another galaxy with a Jump Cell. It refills your propulsion fuel tank and gives you a new set of derelicts to explore. Don't forget that once you've explored the galaxy to jump through a stargate, or you're stranded.

Alright, for those of you who wanna become one with the experience, here's my advice:

Sit in an office or gaming chair, and at a table or desk.
Make sure the room is dark and the screen is moderately bright.
Use a mechanical keyboard. (Really enhances the feel of an old school terminal.)
Make the room kinda cold, but not necessarily drafty.
Use headphones, and keep the volume at a loud, but not deafening level.
Mute discord and other applications, and be in full-screen mode while playing.

Find out what happened to humanity, and survive as long as you can. Good luck, and good scavenging.

Truly a fantastic game if your into simple space/horror/survival games. Whether you get into the story or just jump right in to salvage derelict ships, both are still pretty entertaining. The game is open ended so there is no real final mission and as the story goes, it all depends on the order you unlock ship logs and messages left behind from all the missing people. So your version of the story can be completely different from some ones else.
Poeple this is meant for: for all you people with an inner coder.
People this is not meant for: anyone that has to look at the keyboard to type or jabs keys finger by finger. The main controls for this game is meant for you to type in commands into the command console and if you can't really type then you won't be able to react fast enough to evade incoming danger.

One of the best games I ever played. Left me literally shaking. Slow and methodical, yet intense.

Clever game design makes you feel in control strategically, yet fearful that at any slip-up, things could quickly get out of hand. You will have to make hard decisions, sometimes very fast--but be careful not to panic--you will need to be precise.

The limited interface plays perfectly into your fears. It gives you just enough information and control to be scared, but not enough to be confident. It doesn't rely on jump scares, loud scary music, and flickering lights. It doesn't devolve into raw bloody action as other 'horror' media tend to. This game understands 'real' horror.

The sound design, UI/interactions are coordinated to really make you feel like you are a drone engineer helplessly alone in deep space, thinking on your feet to strategically plan your best chance at survival. As a fan of Alien (all ***two*** films) this hits an aesthetic I absolutely adore.

I don't usually write reviews, but I had to for this one.
To the creators, thank you so much for making this game!

As long as you're not afraid of jump scares, this is an excellent game. The console form of it means you can play it on laptops without needing a mouse, and it rewards taking the time to think about your actions more than speed. If you program, you will be very comfortable with the structure, but I've tested it out with a few others, and they also don't seem to have a problem with figuring it out, it just tends to take them a little longer.

Note that this is far more a puzzle game than a skill-based game, but there are some times when you'll want to go fast. Pay attention to all your options - many of the most useful tricks are hidden.

There's also a story in trying to figure out what happened. Weighing progressing in the story versus taking safer options is a fantastic dilemma, but you can certainly ignore all that if you don't want to try to follow it along. If you do pursue it, you'll find the mystery compelling and well crafted.

Overall, this is a great game, but don't be surprised at the more horror elements of it - you have to spend some time in drone view, and that time will inevitably have jump scares and drone sacrifice. If that doesn't bother you, then you'll have a great time.

Duskers is very innovative and interesting. you control drones to explore and scavenge derelict ships. the game design is more computer like and command string oriented as you can see from the store screenshots. you are more seeing things through the eyes of your drones and the ships systems so it's graphically simple yet the game is very deep. i didn't like the fact you need to type a lot of the commands out to work the drones though this is a personal thing as i have a friend that loved that part. overall though it's a good game but just know its rogue-lite and rng kills also there is no ending.
fyi there is a setting that makes the first area easy and this is always turned on for the first time you play so if your 2nd game if overly hard this is why.

7/10

I wish I knew this before I got it, but bear this in mind: THERE IS NO ENDING.

There is no ending, no real story to uncover. And that's disappointing because the trailer and early game really makes it seem like there is one. The incredible atmosphere and unique interface is perfect for horror. There is so much more it could have done, but after enough time you realize it's a shallow experience.

Duskers is a game where you are alone with nothing but a handful of drones, your wit, and crumbling space ships that you must scavenge for parts, equipment, and information.

Gameplay: You will type commands into an interface to command up to four drones. Each can be equipped with up to four types of mods that can help you navigate through the ship you board. On these ships, up to four enemies can spawn -- hostile drones, leapers, slime, and swarms. Each enemy presents their own unique set of dangers, some more than others.

Story: You are alone. Very alone. Everyone appears to be dead, and it's up to you to piece together a story that comes to you in bits and pieces. You'll have objectives and things you need to complete before you can find out more as to what happened.

PROS:
- Atmosphere is absolutely nailed in this game. You have this feeling of dread that follows you in every ship you board. There's a real sense of danger around you.
- Gameplay is pretty fun. You get into a pretty good system after you figure things out, and there's a lot to be found.
- Interface and graphics add to the immersion, you must play this game in a dark room with headphones to really get into the mindset.
- There is a dedicated community behind this game. People still do the daily challenges, and they love this game with an understandable passion.

CONS:
- There is nothing to do after a bit. Once you get into a pattern, you will get bored. I have a lot of hours (for this game) in this, and I had read all, done all, and looked at everything there was to see at around 25.
- This game is unfinished. I am not sure what happened to the developer, but they seemed so passionate and really into this game, then up and vanished one day. The story is incomplete, there are bugs that need patched, and there are things that need to be added to this game to make it a truly 100% experience.

OVERALL: I recommend this because it's a good game. However, there is still things needed to make this a great game, and there needs to be a completed story in order to make this game feel fulfilling. Buy it on sale, and get some enjoyment.

The game doesn't have an ending, you are expected to die at some point... and you will, by design. There is no hope and not closure or even an explanation about what is happening or what you are exactly doing.

Great concept, horrendous execution that pulls you in by the excellent beginning, only to cut your head off as soon as you take a better peak at it.

Brutally difficult roguelike where you guide your adorable band of robots to their certain death at the hands of:
- other killer robots
- spontaneous solar radiation
- flies that have a taste for robot flesh
- malfunctioning airlocks
- burst pipes carrying concentrated radiation
- an asteroid that smashes into the derelict you're trying to loot
- turrets that you forgot you turned on
- murderous flies that will butcher your entire squad in 5 seconds
- screaming creature that rushes you from off screen to alpha you
- horrible murderous flies with steel shredding teeth that live only to creep through ventilation shafts and feast on robot tears

which occurs while your robots are:
- stuck on walls
- stuck trying to get past each other in hallways
- trying to waddle through a 180 degree turn after seeing something scary
- stuck in doors
- spinning in circles
- stuck on the corpses of other nice robots

This is a really fun game. It was suggested based on my other games, the visual style put me off a bit at first but it's really well done once you get the hang of it and quite entertaining. The best way to probably describe it is: FTL meets Alien Isolation meets that LOGO Turtle from the 80s.

This game reaches the sublime peak of immersion other games only *wish* for. If you setup your environment right (dark room, big chair, headphones), you will very easily forget where you are and will start thinking you are at a drone console for real.

Other than that, this is a proper rougelike game where relaxing your guard means losing the game. Fortunately, Duskers tolerates mistakes as long as you make them rarely.

A thinking mans game - rush in and you'll die.

Some bugs have been noted, the game sometime incorrectly calculates the amount of scrap you have and this can mess up your planning (you expect to have say 2 scrap, the game reports you somehow have -1 scrap).

loving the command line work mixed with the droid top-down displays. it's a bit rough on some starts, but that adds to the gamer's personality. I enjoy the missions, a bit reminiscent of FTL which you can't visit every ship or encounter.

Edit: i initially recommended the game but now find myself not enjoying it anymore after having played for a few more hours. The game simply does not offer anything new beyond the first few ships and there's no real way for you grow: you can not unlock different ships (only commandeer them ... Sometimes), you can not automate tasks beyond what you put into the console and except for the difficulty level and bits of storyline there's nothing you can take from one run onto the next which makes every game feel more or less the same. Nothing radical will happen save from not being handed the equipment that you might have had a game ago making failure much more likely.

It also tends to take cheap shots at your already difficult to replace drones because enemies do far too much damage and are difficult to detect. Didn't wait long enough for an enemy to walk into the motion detector despite having observed it for over a minute? Here's a swarm of drone-eating flies to ruin your day. Might as well start over and re-roll and hope that next time, you won't run into a ship/drone configuration that forces you to walk into an ambush blindly.

This game would have been better off being turn-base as it would have opened up the possibility of at least being able to fend off enemies and add another dimension to the whole shebang. Right now 'combat' i mostly happens off-screen because if it does happen on-screen, you're probably boned.

The game does have a certain charm to it with the whole typing into a terminal but that gets somewhat old, especially when you're being attacked and just end up mistyping all the commands or drones get stuck because they always decide to park in the middle of the hallway and cause a major drone pile-up every single time. Yes, another save-game ruined. Thanks. For a game that forces you to react quickly, it sure does a bad job at offering tools for such an occasion.

Try it for the atmosphere if you're a big fan of the Linux console. I did not pay full price and neither should you.
