Russia during the XIII century was a huge state, much larger than any other European country. Split by internal conflicts, and yet standing strong against numerous outer threats, it was attacked by the infamous Mongol Horde. They came suddenly and pierced through the country like a blazing arrow. The native people fought valiantly, led by a fierce warrior and prince, Prince Alexander Nevsky. Real Warfare: 1242, is a realistic real-time strategy game based on authentic historic events. It invites you to experience the glorious times of princes, knights and vast battles.
The player?s goal is to direct Alexander Nevsky through meticulously recreated historic battlegrounds and achieve the greatest of victories by repelling the attacks of Teutonic and Swedish knights, bringing Lithuania to peace and eliminating every single invader in 1242.

Rubbish, just stick to Total War games... -19/10

47-minutes, time lost of my life to this game. Health & safety warning, this game is like an unwanted sexual disease, it reminds me of chlamydia.

If you find the game displays only black on screen, then turn off HDR lighting in the effect options.

It's scenario based combat like the scenarios in total war.
As a game, it's actually playable.
It's basically total war, except not as good.
If you've played out total war and need more battles then this game is ok but it's for hardcore players only I think.
I had the settings to max and it was stuttering a bit so I lowered them and then I could see the terrain all looked kind of like squares, so it doesn't really run well.
Bonus points for the mongolian throat singing music, I enjoyed it.

I cant even open this game... I only get half the screen so the options to ''play'' are not available...I have fooled around with different settings and nothing happened since the buttons to activate those commnds are presumably off screen as well. Plenty of people having problems with this game. Im running it on Windows 10 so maybe its not compatible?? and doesnt matter how many boxes I tick to contact steam for assistance I keep coming back to my starting point..... Steam help is like a prank... keep clicking till the client loses interest seems to be the mantra.

This is pretty much the same game as XIII gameplay wise with different campaigns, units, and setting. If you are looking for more historical battles with preset armies this can scratch the itch. I feel neutral towards it mostly and don't see myself playing it too often but it's worth the dollar it is on a sale.

I do like that you don't always control the whole army and sometimes only a segment of it while the rest is by the AI, it makes the micromanagement a little less tedious. Otherwise the strategic combat is similar to that of Total War, just no empire building or anything to go with it and little replayability due to the preset units.

(I am going through my steam library and trying to review everything with enough time for a first impression)

FOR THOSE WHO USE NVIDIA!!!! When launching the game, go to configuration, effects, and disable HDR Lighting, it will solve the black screen problem.
Other than that, pretty solid game, reminds me a lot of Rome/Medieval II total war, and it's cheap.

Too buggy for me, and I see that there are still no patches. Would have been a good game otherwise.

Lesson: don't buy a game until at least 1 patch is out so you know then that there will be some support for problems.

So many people have compared this game to the Total War games (of which I own all and have spent a fair chunk of my life playing ) but that is rather unfair.People realise that Mount and Blade Warband Viking Conquest is a different game than Attilia, Kingdoms or Barbarian Invasion and so is Real Warfare 1242 diferent than Med2. They are very different games.I acknowledge the game may not exist if Med.2 didn't but it's still an interesting period of history and a quite complex old game to play well in it's own right.To be sure it is rather like playing in a leaking diving mask in some battles,it is a bit blurred.Fog I believe it represents and that is pretty usual up the Baltic Sometimes the view looks quite wonderful and the terrain lends itself splendidly for attack or defence and there are plenty of various, well modelled, historically correct troops to choose from. The game functions fine,load ups are a bit slow ,the music is a bit strange maybe I'm being picky but some of it sounds like a prolonged burp, battlesounds are excellent, controls of which there are far more than a certain other game and they are very good and give you tons of options for your troops.Been no glitches or crashes it runs well on Windows 7.Ok If I was only allowed to play this or Med 2 for the rest of my life of course I would choose Med. 2.But none the less Real Warfare 1242 is a pretty damned good wargame especially if you like the Medieval period ..It's a buck forty seven in my country now so its got to be cheap in yours also and definetly worth giving it a try at that price.You might be pleasantly surprised...

This game has some good potential, but for me it was unfulfilled. Positive is interesting graphic engine and idea of the game, but game mechanics are unfinished and buggy. I have encountered many unpleasant bugs, mistakes and errors. I am not comparing it to Total War, but there should(or could) be done a lot of work on this game, but it is obviously DEAD and abandoned by the devs. A bit sad. It could have been more successful.

Refer to my review for XIII Century.
It's like Total War, but without campaign management - just battles.

If you want something surprisingly enjoyable (and in some cases without the lag), then give it a try.

Very solid strategy title.
Good unit variety, in depth unit stats and statistic effects from combat, challenging and varied battles bought to you in great graphical detail.
Very surprised with the quality of this game, I am really enjoying it and definitely recommend it for fans of strategy games set in this Era.
