i will divide this dlc into 2 parts : this dlc is worth 2 $ tops !
-new civilization added to the game. (score : 2/10) (should be 1$)
-new Monopolies and Corporations & preserve. (score : 8/10) (worth 1$)
i give this DLC : 7/10 in general because Monopolies and Corporations is a well added change to the game.
===
i will write this on all my reviews THE AI in this game is broken ! civ5 had an ai that at least worked !
the ai just do nothing ! it literally does not work ! which is odd because at least in civ5 it worked, as bad as it was.
HEY STUPID DEVELOPERS OF THE GAME, FIX YOUR GAME AND AI BEFORE ADDING MONEY GRAB DLC !
the dlc could have been justified if this game was an online game like dota, r6siege, etc...
but since most players play offline this dlc is not justified at all...
every civilization is SLIGHTLY adjusted or a little different than the other civs, adding this DLC to the game does not do anything !
it is like if a car can't start and you can't drive it, buy you go buy leather seats for it !
HOWEVER i like the Monopolies and Corporations added to the game, good game changing impact that blends nicely.
the preserve is however just 1 district with 2 or 3 building that is nice to have, but it is nothing special.
===
i give this DLC : 7/10 in general because the Monopolies and Corporations is a well added change to the game.

Bà Triệu is not the owner of Thăng Long. You must learn more about our history before making this DLC.

I really want to recommend this, but unfortunately, the monopolies and corporations mode breaks the AI's ability to effectively exploit luxury resources. The AI will leave virtually all of them untouched. Until this is fixed, I cannot recommend.

As others have stated (months ago, in fact, with still no fix) this DLC will break the AI's ability to build Luxury Resources correctly. If you own this DLC but disable it, the AI problem goes away. Even if you're not using the new Corporations & Monopolies game mode while playing, just having this DLC enabled will cripple the AI.

It's been like this for months. There are a few mods on the workshop that help alleviate the issue, but they are bandaids that don't correctly remedy the problem.

Edit: after further testing it appears just owning the DLC does not cause the issue, it only happens if you play a game using the Corp & Monopolies game mode. So feel free to buy it for just the civs, but I would stay away from that game mode unless you're playing Diety so that the AI can power through the early-game handicap.

So Vietnam is amazing, the other guy I haven't really played but selling dlc with one siv and a 1/2 is not worth $8, maybe around $3-$6,(usd) idk the devs not the higher ups should get more money.

BUG!
Cities will be stuck at 0 loyalty, but won't rebel - just hang there endlessly.

And my usual rant: £8 for a reskin and a new civ and some vastly underdocumented new feqatures.

If they keep this money-grabbing trend, that could just as well be the end of Civilization as we know it

This pack includes one civilization, one alternate leader, one district, and the Monopolies and Corporations game mode. It is far more balanced than I expected from a NFP DLC.

Vietnam
The best way to describe Vietnam is cultural and defensive. They have some interesting district placement like the Gaul. However, with Vietnam, you can only put specialty districts on woods, rainforests, and marshes. In exchange, the buildings in each of them give culture, science, or production depending on where they are. This was very interesting to play with. Although it sucks to give up forest tiles you could have used for lumber mills. For defense, they get a unique encampment that has a really fun culture adjacency bonus and also extra strength and movement on woods and rainforest tiles (even more in their own territory). They feel surprisingly balanced for a New Frontier Pass civ.

The soundtrack is amazing as always.

Kublai Khan
I'm a little bit disappointed with Kublai Khan. He is the first NFP civ that is both weak and uninteresting. He can lead both China and Mongolia which is cool. But, you're much better off going with either Qin or Genghis. It's because his ability is fairly limited. You get an eureka and inspiration for creating a trading post in another civilization's city for the first time. However, this bonus only applies once per civilization, which means you only get 7 eurekas and inspirations on a standard size map. This doesn't feel that impactful compared to other leaders. It also really underscores how mediocre China's civ ability is. If China gets buffed in the April update then maybe he will become more viable.

Monopolies and Corporations Mode
It's going to take a while to fully understand the impact this mode has on the game. It seems like a bigger but more subtle change-up. How it works is if you get two of a luxury resource, you can form an industry that gives a big buff to the city it's in. The buff is a different percent yield increase depending on what the resource is. For example, a diamond industry gives +20% gold. If you get 3 of the resource then you can turn it into a corporation with a great merchant, this increases the buff. Eventually, if you own a majority of the resource, you control a monopoly which gives you tourism and more gold. One side effect of this mode I noticed was that AI are much less likely to trade around their luxury resources. This takes away a valuable source of amenities in the early game. Overall, it's a natural extension of the luxury resource system, but I kind of wish they did more with it. Maybe incorporate it more with policy cards, beliefs, and world congress.

Preserve
Finally, something that gives new purpose to tile appeal. Tile appeal has always been a somewhat hidden mechanic that only comes up in the late game with neighborhoods and national parks, but now it has a use in the early game. The preserve district buffs the appeal of adjacent tiles and later gives more yields to adjacent charming and breathtaking tiles. Now all those civ and leader abilities with small appeal related bonuses have new meaning. I always love the new districts, but I really like the way this one incorporates an underused mechanic.

Conclusion
Overall, lots of fun and worthwhile additions. Also, way more balanced than I expected. Can't wait to see whats in store for the last pack.

With latest update from this DLC AI doesnt build improvements and completely ignores the monopolies mode. The AI is notorious to be garbage, but now it doesnt even build anything. It is obvious this wasnt tested once, literally 1 game with the mode on and it is clear its bugged. Embarassing.

Firaxis trying to go the Paradox route of pricing but their content and games are not even remotely good enough to warrant that kind of model.

As with many of the other DLC released in this pack, they seemed to not bug test their game, or care about what they do to its stability. I cannot go 10 turns without the game crashing to desktop. And its aggravating because it takes upwards of 6 minutes just to get the game up and running again. This release also bugged out the loyalty system so now a city refuses to flip at 0 loyalty. The negotiations for peace are also completely broken. It could be 100 turns into a war and the AI will have one city left with no troops, and STILL refuse to take peace. This would be fine if I could finish the job, but no. If you take their last city, every single civ on the map will denounce you making trade and negotiation useless.

While the content itself is amazing, I am really disappointed in the overall execution of this new frontier pass. If it was just this pack, I would have been more understanding. But every time they release a new pack, it brings up big bugs that render the game completely unplayable until they release a patch for it.

I would recommend you wait a bit before purchasing this DLC, only for the sake of getting it without the bugs.

The Monopolies and Corporations Game Mode is hands down the best mode they've added to the game so far and is honestly the best part of this pack. It adds a level of complexity to luxury resources that give you another thing to think about before settling a city.

Vietnam is a really unique and creative civ that, combined with the Preserve district, adds a reason not to immediately chop early game and gives more options for playing.

Kublai is pretty average. The economic policy slot is good, but not really creative, and the inspiration from trade routes only occurring once per civ, while obviously depicting the Silk Road, isn't really useful at all.

The one real negative about this pack is the trade screen bug where civs wont offer counteroffers to your deals. Hopefully that's fixed soon, but aside from that this is the best New Frontier Pass so far. Honestly, Firaxis needs to pull something crazy out in order to top this pack as far as content is concerned.

This is probably the best addition to the Frontier Pass yet. I am not being hyperbolic about this either. So if you don't want to read this whole thing - Buy it! It's worth it.

The new preserve district adds a lot to the game and actually gives you a reason to not chop down trees even if you are not going for a national park simply couse it gives really massive boosts to yields from forest tiles. It is a good addition and makes the game a lot of fun.

Kublai Khan seems pretty good, I like this new take on China and Mongolia. (Esp. Cina tbh.) It plays a lot differently then the original Civ and it really fits into the new gamemode with his heavy focus on trading and economy. He might seem a bit boring to some but I would say he's pretty well done.

Vietnam might be my favourite addition to this game as a Civ. Originally I wasn't too excited about it but the way it plays is simply brilliant. The restrictions they have on placing districts means you can't jsut slap down cities willy nilly you got to actually think about their placement carefully and even plan out where will you put each district before evens etteling it. They are a great defensive Civ, so everyone who likes to play more turtle style will probably really enjoy them and their special millitary district is kinda broken with the right placement. This is for sure a tourism victory Civ, since getting culture for them is SO easy.

Lastly the new gamemode. It's simply a must have. I am surprised this isn't simply part of the abse game and that you have to tick a box to play it, it makes the game a lot more fun and it finally means that having more then one luxury resource actually provides you with good bonuses. It also adds a bit to the immersion aspect of running a civilization, it is a bit broken though at the moment. If you've seen PotatoMcWhiskey's video you know that with monopolies as Vietnam you can get up to 351 tourists in just one city.

This is a good DLC, actually, I have to admit.

The Preserve district is maybe one of the best additions to the game in a long while, here. It makes it more viable to play the environmental mechanics out a bit, to keep forests intact and not chop them for quick production... it makes it so there's more incentive in the early game to consider not knocking down every last tree. Most of the other, similar mechanics only appear far later into a playthrough, meaning that the early quick production boost had almost always been the better option in the past. Now, though, the Preserve gives an early enough buff to unimproved tiles that there's actual thought to put into keeping forests up, avoiding spamming mines or things that lower appeal, etc.

Further, the Kublai Khan is a decent leader that changes up the formula for both China and Mongolia, if you pick him. An extra economy policy slot is a big deal, but the eurekas for trading posts part is solid too, and plays well with existing abilities for each civ without being brokenly OP.

Finally, Vietnam is a good new civ. Like the Gauls (another New Frontier civ), there are some pretty powerful uniques that are nonetheless offset by a challenge: you have to place districts in forest, rainforest, or marsh tiles. At least you get a much earlier ability to plant second-growth forests as Vietnam, so it's not quite the challenge it might first appear to be, but it's still a bit of a trade-off, especially true in some starting situations (ie: low numbers of such tiles).

Of all the New Frontier season pass stuff, this one is pretty solid, and that's without having even tried the new game mode yet.
