Über das Spiel

"There is no truth in flesh, only betrayal."
"There is no strength in flesh, only weakness."
"There is no constancy in flesh, only decay."
"There is no certainty in flesh but death."
— Credo Omnissiah

You of the Adeptus Mechanicus—the Cult of the Machine God—have worshipped the Omnissiah long before the Imperium came to your world of Mars. Following His edict, you have never doubted or ceased to pursue your calling—to gather knowledge and to employ it to gather more. In pursuit of that, you built the devices and machines that enabled the Imperium to conquer the galaxy 10,000 years ago and maintain it today.

So Gladius Prime was your planet more than it was the Imperium’s—what Hive World was not? Its cities, its satellites, its wastes—all were built with Mars’ technology, all answered only to the Adeptus Mechanicus—that is, to you. It was little effort to hide the Adeptus Mechanicus research into the Tyranids here, in a facility deep beneath the ashen wastes.

Now, however, your facility has been compromised, your Skitarii forces scattered and your subjects have escaped. You must rebuild, recover and take Gladius Prime’s secrets for your own. For you have a mission to fulfil, from the Omnissiah himself…

A new faction joins the war for Gladius Prime
The Adeptus Mechanicus are an empire within the Imperium, with their own agenda, their own god (‘The Omnissiah’) and their own fanatical purpose—the discovery of knowledge, of technology. Though they supply the technical and scientific expertise of the Imperium, they also possess their own elite armies of bionically-augmented soldiers. Xenos or man, stand in their way and they will annihilate you.

Gameplay Mechanics
Canticles of the Omnissiah: Chant Mechanicus hymns to enhance units, increasing in power with every praying warrior.

Doctrina Imperatives: Override Skitarii subroutines to amplify some combat aspects while reducing others.

Hive Cities: Place more buildings per tile by utilizing Adeptus Mechanicus’ capability to create layered constructions of rockcrete and adamantium.

Monolithic Buildings: Increased output of buildings of the same type on a tile. Decreased output of buildings of differing types on a tile.

Power Surge: Increase the output of buildings on a tile through forceful intensity.

Enslaved to the Past: Increased research cost. The ability to truly innovate has long been lost, replaced with a reverence for the times when Humanity was the architect of its own destiny.

Reprogram Kastelan Robot: Capture enemy Kastelan Robots with Cybernetica Datasmiths’ programming rituals.

Bionics: Adeptus Mechanicus units have high damage resistances. Generally, artificial limbs are more durable than their biological counterparts.

Adjacency Integration: Adeptus Mechanicus upgrades increase building output with each adjacent building.

Adeptus Mechanicus, or as I like to call them, the S&M perverts of WH40K.

In Gladius, they are another unique and hard to play faction. The unit synergy is almost on the level of the Sisters of Battle. They aren't as humstrung, but they have serious issues with resources. As it should be since they are the Hivers of Hivers. They do have a good assortment of units, and their main quest isn't too rough. A good pickup, especially on sale.

I not normally make reviews, but after reading some of them in this DLC, I need to do it.

I read someone saying the the skitarii vanguard, the first unit, is usless for having low hitpoints and only be able to attack in 1 distance (like melee) even though they use guns.

But does not mention that they are tricky to use, but also amazingy useful: Skitarii vanguard are basically glass cannons. Is the only starting unit that I have seen obliterating neutral units in one shot without any upgrade. This is because of their passives habilites (amazing for destroying monsters and infantry).

And this only with the first unit. All the roster of Adepus Mechanicus are like that: tricky to use but all of them amazingly useful. My advice? Just read all the information of every unit and try to use them in different scenarios. Is an strategy game after all.

Also: The unit that makes new cities also can heal 6 HP to every single unit on the Adeptus Mechanicus rooster. And one of the hero units has the same ability plus another with a healing power of 24HP each turn.

Adeptus Mechanicus allways has been my fav faction in W40k and between this DLC and the Mechanicus game, I think now is starting to be an amazing time for this faction.

Seriously: if you love Adeptus Mechanicus, try it. It is worth and very cheap for what is worth. Also it will help the indie company continuing doing more good stuff.

TLDR: Buy this if you're still having lots of fun with Gladius. If you're bored with Gladius, this isn't going to rejuvenate your interest in the game.

(1) Uniqueness - 4/5
The AdMech are not exceptionally well done, but it's frankly a small miracle that they managed to distinguish them at all, let alone as thoroughly as they actually did. Remember, we already have two Imperial factions and a ton of other factions, none of which the AdMech could be made too similar to.

(2) Story - 3/5
Not good, not bad. The usual Gladius mystery story with the expected style of twists and reveals.

(3) Mechanics - 4/5
The mechanics for the AdMech are pretty decent despite the constraint of needing to be unique versus all the other factions. Their offensive combat specialty lies in EXTREME concentration of force at a single point - your heroes can stack a ton of bonuses onto a single unit and then you can have that unit devastate something twice as powerful as itself.

Their defense relies very heavily on armor - their units simply melt under fire from units that can actually negate their armor. HP is not good at all, but you *do* get very strong healers in the mid and late game.

Mobility on the ground is mediocre-to-bad. Your end-game superheavy unit, the Knight Crusader, is incredibly deadly at range 2 and quite decent at range 3, with excellent survivability. Sadly, it also has a movement of 2.

Your economy is the strongest in the entire game, provided that you can actually get it off the ground. You start out able to build one more structure per tile than normal, and this combines with researchable adjacency bonuses to provide an absolutely obscene late-game. Unless something has gone very, very wrong, a late-game AdMech player will pump out incredible quantities of whatever units they desire.

But this is in the late game - in the early game you suffer penalties from any duplicate buildings in the same hex (balanced our with bonuses to having multiple instances of the same building in a hex), which means you HAVE to pay extreme attention to building placement and NEED to get more cities and the construction radius upgrades at the earliest convenience.

All the while, your research is slower than that of other factions, so you have to either balance that out with early-game research buildings or specialize very, very carefully early on.

On the whole, you are the ultimate turtle faction, able to put the Imperial Guard and the Tau to shame with your explosive mid-to-late game economic potential.

(4) Style - 4/5
It's 40K, so much of the style is already baked in (both the good and the bad), but the animations are nice and the AdMech theme is simply excellent, easily my favorite faction leitmotif yet.

(5) Replayability - 2/5
I'm going to replay the AdMech a couple times inevitably, but with so many other factions and the same basic mechanics and the lack of unique scenarios with interesting challenges, this is not going to add much to the game's replayability. Maybe two extra games' worth if you (unlike me) are tapped out.

(6) Overall: 3.5/5
Worth buying for me, but maybe not for you. It depends.

Some tips:
- Stack bonuses onto the same unit and then crush key enemy units at short range; you do this better than anybody else and you cannot simply play long-range attrition like the Tau or the Imperial Guard.
- Your ability to win battles of attrition is dependent almost entirely on good formation. Your heroes have upgrades granting substantial passive area bonuses to your units.
- Formation, formation, formation. If you do it right, you'll be almost as annoyingly resilient as the Necrons and almost as killy as the Tau, while being almost as scarily hard-to-rout as the Space Marines. But if your formation is badly structured or disrupted you will fall apart extremely fast.
- Get enough resources to keep your early game economy in once piece, and then turtle with 2-3 cities.
- Your unit-production buildings have pretty decent resource output. With the adjacency bonuses in mind, it's often worthwhile doubling or tripling or even quadrupling the same unit-production building.
- You are very hero-dependent. Your entire style of combat is built around heroes buffing and healing your units as needed.
- You are strongest at range 2. The AdMech is indeed really shooty, but only at short range.

As a real life Admech player I really enjoy this DLC! The unit models are spot on and the Admech story questline is interesting and atmospheric.

However as of now (release day) there are several typos or grammar erorrs in the story texts which ruin the immersion a bit. Also Skitarii Vanguard feel super weak and can only shoot at units directly in front of them as opposed to most other factions infantry that has a range of two tiles.
In general Admech feels pretty weak. I am struggling to compete against average AI and was defeated before I could finish the story many times now.

I want to keep trying though and am having fun exploring this neat new faction.

From the moment I understood the weakness of my flesh, it disgusted me.

I craved the strength and certainty of steel. I aspired to the purity of the blessed machine.

Your kind cling to your flesh as if it will not decay and fail you.

One day the crude biomass that you call the temple will wither; and you will beg my kind to save you.

But I am already saved, for the machine is immortal.

For even in death, I serve the Omnissiah

Praise the Omnissiah:

The circuits are complete.
The engine of fate is primed.
One turn of the cog remains, and the grand machine shall fulfill its purpose.
