Phase one: Release some species pack for 7.99 during years.
Phase two: People said them than their dlcs are overpriced.
Phase three: Paradox create the custodian team and asking them to add content to the old species pack to give them more values for the 7.99 asked.
Phase four: Release a new (aquatic) species pack (which give the same content than the old species pack have now that they added more content to them), but upping the base price from their new species pack from 7.99 to 9.99....

What will be the phase 5 ? Asking to the custodian team to add more content to the aquatic pack to give it more value for his new 9.99 price ?
Sometimes i ask to myself if the Paradox marketing team is smart or idiot. Probably the first one since i don't have any doubt that the aquatic dlc will be bought by a lot of people. But i can't stop to ask myself this question...

Ps: seeing how many threads are about to speak about crashes, bugs, etc... It seems that the QA is exactly like for the previous patches. It is not even possible to say that the price is upped because the internal testing is better than before. So bad.

- there are a lot of bugs in this game
- late-game is even on high end machines mostly unplayable because most of the calculation must be done by ONE core
- Paradox has become an awful company, constantly producing low quality DLCs without any service
- on Paradox forums opinion is being heavily controlled, if you speak out unpopular opinions you will be banned, thus you will also LOSE ACCESS TO TECHNICAL SUPPORT
- under this circumstances I can't recommend Stellaris to anyone

Let's be xenophobic! It's really in this year
Let's find a nasty, slimy, ugly alien to fear
There's no more cutesy stories 'bout E.T. phoning home
Let's learn to love our neighbors,
Like the Christians learned in Rome!

We know we ought to hate 'em; they're different, you see
We've seen they're mean and ugly on movies and TV
The folks that ought to know have told us how it's got to be
The gospel truth is found in scenes from Alien and V

Let's wipe out any lifeform that seems to be a threat
We'll serve 'em up a genocide they never will forget
'Cause if we miss a couple, they'll breed a couple more!
And soon we'll all be hating twice as many as before

You see, aliens can never be as good as humankind
A more delightful race than us you'll never, ever find
So step aside, you star slime, we're ready for your worst!
We know you want to beat us, enslave us and defeat us,
Oppress us and browbeat us, unless we get you first!

Also absolute Kaufempfehlung meiner seits.

I think Stellaris is one of the best strategy games I have ever played, I would recommend it to everyone who likes strategy games and who likes the topic. Although it is very complex it is possible to learn it while playing. Newcomers should just start to play and not be afraid to play a not perfect game, as Stellaris is highly replayable even with same start conditions it will last many games before it becomes routine.
Get it and enjoy.

PS: The only thing that I don't like so much: Stellaris is very time consuming, it is not a game I play at the evening after work, it is more for a rainy saturday.

kleine partien so gegen 50 stunden.

Last time i spend a Euro on Paradox crap and i regret every Cent i spend on this.
Vanilla Game just misses essential features, with totally overpriced DLC. 8 Euro for some stupid Pictures and 3 repeating voicelines? 19 Euro for features that shold be in the main game anyway or wold be patched as free content by any other dev? blatant extortion..
The Tutorial is a damn joke (you got a rebellion on one of yor planets, but i am not telling you what you can do against that. HAHA!).
There is no Flow at all, when you get spam&paused by the same message every 5 seconds.
Totally annoying when you try to click something and everytime 3+ stacked popup-messages block you over and over again.

DO NOT BUY THIS CRAP! I should have burned the money instead!

Bewertung in Punkten:
84
/100

Heidiho Steam Community,

Actually this game is a lot of fun. Unfortunately you can't play it for long via multiplayer until today. Paradox can't get its desynchronization problems under control. After several patches and updates I question whether they're even interested in solving it. In their updates the crucial technical problems always had only a marginal status. Completely incomprehensible to me! Me and my friends have never finished a game so far, back then because of soon endless slowness, today because of chronic desynch!

It has changed like 5 times how playing it works, now it's decent. It was balancing (high or wide) before but now it's population=strengh again which is quite sad. Still, no ships good border protection is fine and reseach has never been easier. Mods are lovely, 70% better from it the basic game is quite dull unless you bring in the deity AI (unfair buffs if you get the meaning) and bear the double output from non-players. Not fun in CIV but here it's quite good.

Pro:
- High End ScyFi Stetting

Viele Dinge macht Stellaris toll.

I know we are at the point now where getting everything really adds up but just keep an eye out for holiday sales because they are all worth it. I've been everything at this point.

I've created utopia personified, grand architectures of the combined might of thousands.
I've wiped out the galaxy, ended untold trillions of lives.
I've burned, cracked, erased, pacified and converted entire worlds.
I've uncovered ancient mysteries and dead civilisations.
I've fostered friendships and alliances, federations that dominated the galaxy through cooperation.
I've been destroyed by the hubris of resisting a steel tide, been devoured by eldritch swarms and absorbed by ancient extradimensionals.
I've seen stars collapse under the weight of a shared ambition and ideal, and watched as the heavens are torn asunder by the gods themselves.
I've put my iron boot to the neck of all xenos scum, and made them sing praises to a corpse throne.
I've sung the tones of the damned, and collected all lifeforms to ascend into my image, and my image alone.
I've done unspeakable things in the name of profit.
I've reshaped the galaxy through unseen and deft diplomatic hands, enstated myself emperor and made all bow to my will.
I've reshaped nations, empires and fought blood drenched civil war against myself.

I have been a learned scholar.
I have been a fervent zealot of the shroud.
I have been a champion of the people, and of freedom.
I have been the god emperor, the one above all, the autocrat and philosopher king.
I have been the oppressor and the puritan, the blood court and the exterminator.
I have been the diplomat, and the seeker of the spurned, the creator of alliances.
I have been the crusader, the unending tide of war and the admiral of an eternal fleet.
I have been the timorous oak, the defender and developer of utopia.
I have been the confluence of thousands of minds and voices, a devourer of worlds, a parasite or a simple mind.
I have been the metal horde, speaking in a chorus of binary tones and logic- an exterminator of flesh, a curator of the lesser, and a twisted all encompassing matrix.

I have seen the end, and i laughed for it held my image, and the reflections of thousands of iterations before this one.

I've been everything at this point.

The fact that they took out existing functionality of federations and then put it back in as a DLC is a good example of how paradox has lost it's way.

One of the single best 4x space games on the market. I have nearly 1000 hours playing this game over the years. It helps having friends to play with, but even without any friends that play the game, the single player can be more than entertaining enough. With a plethora of gameplay options to make things more or less difficult, you can tailor each game to your individual tastes. There is literally years worth of material invested into this game by the developers. If you want to buy a game that will hold over your stellar empire creation dreams, you could do far worse than Stellaris.

The Expanse.

Me, Grand Strategy and 4X aren't on the best of terms. The reason being that I feel there's always this latent pressure to learn when and how to build... faster. Optimizing research paths, knowing when excess upkeep is necessary, etc — that every measure taken must be calculated for something that won't happen for literal hours of gameplay to come to fruition. Ensuring that every action performed is in 'the' appropriate way such to devastate and overcome any other players. They always feel multiplayer first. It's a hurdle I've not yet been able to overcome as I don't particularly enjoy that pressure. I'm not going to really bother explaining what Grand Strategy or 4X games entail specifically. As in all honestly, I find them to be a rather niche genre already. And one I feel as though I'm breaching into to boot. The term 'alien' feels appropriate for more than a few reasons. And that's largely why I've stayed away from this game.

Stellaris, for me, is set apart from your traditional Paradox endeavor. Your historical Crusader Kings, Victoria, Europa Universalis or Hearts of Iron. I like to view Stellaris through the lens of a story generator of a civilization with a malleable government with varying ideologies and values as they explore and expand into the universe. All the while building a robot army or gene splicing a species' behavior, among other things...

Sometimes I just like to look into space.

Another thing is that the game's mechanics favor expedience, for example: Events such as finding an abandoned drone facility has an air of mystery at first. What happened? What sorts of alien tech or creatures were here and why? But if you've played a number of matches, you'd know this is semi-scripted event — or rather, has a set path and quest-line. Once found, you'd know that after it's researched it'll result in the binary effects of increased mining station productivity or increased damage against drones. This is expected, but I feel it takes away from a lot of the wonder.

The 'victory' conditions are relatively complicated but ultimately end like many games in the genre do. There's a defined stardate and whomever has the highest score at that time is declared victorious. That score is then calculated by a number of factors like economic strength, technology level, number of systems and colonies within the empire — the list goes on.

That said, while the game can be difficult to learn, it remains extremely customizable. And you're able to play any match beyond the specified stardate. Often uncompleted research projects will be effectively locked beyond your borders. And should you desire to complete a quest-chain, you'll need to either broker a deal with neighboring empires to enter their borders or.. become more aggressive.

Space is really big.

These games take a looong time to complete. It's kind of a galaxy sandbox in many ways. Every game takes place within in a single galaxy. By the end of my first game, I had already put 27 hours into it. But that was with me stopping every 2 seconds to read everything. Once you've got the basics, early game stuff is relatively straightforward.

Function over form.

Basics insofar as sending science ships out to survey, building starbases around stars with natural satellites and resources, then building a mining station to start increasing stockpiles to expand. Choosing to not build starbases around less resource intensive systems in the early game when they cost more, in both resources and influence, slowing down overall expansion — keeping in mind your 'Empire Sprawl', or penalties to research and the increased cost of things based on how stretched out your resources are. This can be mitigated by increasing administrative capacity. Now, that may sound involved, but those are the basic buildings blocks. After learning that, the rest falls into place. Finding stargates/wormholes or using experimental subspace navigation for faster travel, being diplomatic with other species, getting into skirmishes with hostile alien factions. You name it. Do mind LV-426, though.

You're able to assign admirals to fleets, scientists for research, governors for sectors of your empire. You're even able to design your own ships, by default it's set to 'auto-best' — whatever the newest tech you've researched will be used. Even if it costs more, so bear that in mind.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2409044107

It should be noted that in order to receive achievements, you need to engage Ironman mode. But it does feature a plethora of mods using Steam Workshop integration.

Two things I learned early were to start using the return to nearest starbase function — any ships not currently doing anything should stay there to lower their overall upkeep cost. Another is that you can expand districts to create more housing instead of building more buildings. This typically will add both housing as well as jobs and generate more energy credits or minerals, etc. You can also make decisions such as distributing luxury goods, subsequently increasing amenities and happiness while inadvertently decreasing crime.

It's not the most concise UI, it can be rather wordy and number-heavy. It takes some getting used to.
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2409010777
The wording can be odd as well, “Starbase Capacity” isn't actually affected until you've upgraded a starbase to a starport. As starbases are what actually increase your borders.

Playing pacifist comes with a few caveats, for instance early on when I was warned by a neighboring empire to not place starbases near their borders and decided to go against that warning, they felt it prudent to 'humiliate' me and destroy my very small military. Diplomacy is paramount.

The Paradox of Expansion:

Paradox has set a precedent of releasing DLC that has gone unparalleled stay for EA's The Sims. Every game they make has tons of expansions. Which is great! But it's also something I can't really endorse fully. Even games they publish are subject to this expanded siphoning in games like Battletech and Cities: Skylines. This practice has also extended into IP's acquired after the fact — Prison Architect — where they've effectively repurposed ideas within popular mods into “expansions”. They've even gone as far as making Crusader Kings 2 F2P with a subscription model available.

I don't own any DLC at the time of writing this. Though, it's likely I'll acquire some in the future. It's a practice I find distasteful, but I also want more content. The hallmark of ambivalence.

However...

The ambiance of space.

The sound design is incredible and the OST is even better. In fact, I'd go as far as to say that it's one of the best I've ever heard. Right up there with FTL and Mass Effect. I found myself getting emotional from the music alone.

The Gist:

Stellaris is certainly my favorite theme for a Grand Strategy game. Admittedly, I'm a veritable n00b in the genre. Grand Strategy and 4X I've always found as a simple idea but in practice to be extremely overwhelming. Largely due to feeling like I wasn't performing the 'meta' correctly. Wherever that feeling may have falsely come from. It's something that's always present.

That said, I highly recommend the game as it checks a lot of boxes, it's got a lot of depth and replayability, it's about space/sci-fi and it runs essentially on a potato. It's the one Grand Strategy/4X I adore despite its failings.

Loved the game until 1.9.1, every playthrough had something fun and unexpected, with many liberties for what kind of space empire you wanted to have. There were three FLT travel methods with strengths and weaknesses, army attachments (think about something like Clone armies with Jedi commanders) and border system made space feel free and dangerous. Il felt like wild west in space. And with mods it was even better!!!

After the war score system, FLT and planet reworks there are many new thing and (pricey) DLCs that make things awesome, but I personally don't like the new feel of the game. New resources, butchered FLT travel, silly concept like CHOKEPOINTS IN SPACE ruined the game for me, it does not feel anymore like your race or civilization is fightning for survival in a cold, merciless galaxy, wants to conquer or make it burn in mass killing and destruction, but it looks more like city builder on a galactic scale that requires too much optimisation.

Another sour note is that the game requires too many pricey DLCs, and the performance sometimes can be wonky with huge galaxies.

Obviously it is my humble opinion, I feel like the devs butchered their own game, but it still is a lot of fun, art and soundtrack are top notch, and the devs are still working on it.

I rarely submit reviews, but with Stellaris it seems the only meaningful way to give out feedback.

Up to and including version 2.1, Stellaris was quite fun and playable 4X game. It's heavily rooted in well-known sci-fi lore and themes, and being a sci-fi fan myself I can recommend it to every other fan of this genre.

Unfortunately, starting from version 2.2, the game transitioned to new model for representing and managing population. This isn't bad in itself, what's bad is that AI seems woefully inadequate in managing this new system, bringing out game breaking problems that are left unresolved since December 2018. The two most glaring ones are:
- Sector- and planet-level AI that's supposed to help player with managing their growing empire either does nothing, or makes dumb decisions that cripple player's economy. This leads to the need of massive micromanagement once you have more than a dozen worlds under control.
- The endgame crises, which all involve some powerful enemy to defeat, do nothing. They just spawn, conquer ~10 systems if you're lucky, and then sit there waiting to be defeated. It's truly baffling, how the end game boss can be so passive.

Thing is, those appear only after one plays the game for significant time and the beginning experience remains as reach and awe-inspiring as it was. So the game sorta tricks new player into giving a positive review before revealing it's ugly face later. Of course it's a shortsighted strategy, but for now it works.

There's no confirmation from Paradox that they recognize these issues, despite community bringing them many times to their attention. It doesn't feel that Paradox has a serious commitment to keeping the game stable and playable - apart from churning out new DLCs. All in all, I can't recommend the game in it's current form.

This game could be great. This game could get everything you want in a role-play sci-fi civilization game. But it is flawed, so very very flawed. This game is so buggy that it breaks routinely, through patch after patch after patch. All the devs care about it pushing out more DLC they no longer care about their games. Paradox is a model of how to piss off your player base.

I've played a fair amount of this game, and have definitely gotten my money's worth out of it, but I just can't recommend it in it's current state.

The game has several glaring issues which have yet to be fixed even though they've existed over a year ago now. AI performance is just awful especially with end-game crisis' and awakened empires, who back in the early versions of the game used to be actual threats, which expand a few systems and then sit there doing nothing.

Game performance is horrible and has been an issue since mid-2019. In the Stellaris forum in the Paradox website admins have made a giant mega-thread which they now limit complaints about performance to, as the forum was being flooded with players expressing their concerns. That's an incredibly blatant move to try and stop players from raising their issues in the public eye. Did I mention that no Developer has actually posted anything in that thread? Yeah, they made a thread to try and shove aside the communities grievances and hope that people will forget about it.

Stellaris has had its development team changed several times and it shows, the game now a mess of competing ideas and concepts that do not mesh well at all. It's like as if each development team has wanted to change the game to fit their vision each time without actually attempting to address any existing problems. This has helped make the end-game particularly disappointing.

I imagine that Stellaris will continue to get minor updates and assurances from the occasional developer that 'work is being done to fix known issues' while just receiving DLCs that feature cosmetic changes more than anything. Odds they'll make a Stellaris 2 rather than attempting to fix this mess. It's a pity as this game has a lot of potential.

It's an okay X4 game, but pretty boring and slow paced compared to some other space X4 games. The game starts out well and expanding your empire and getting knowledge about ancient alien civs is fun, but not much is happening after that.

Basically if you do decent with researching tech and keeping up a decent military fleet the AI civs don't do anything. The AI will interact with text dialogs and be hostile, they even make claims on your territory, but they don't actually invade or attack at all (in the vanilla base game).

The base game is content rich enough for a playthrough, but looking at the amount of dlc's I feel like I am missing out on more game depth and more gameplay variation. Looking at the dlc prices I am not very eager to buy them. Instead I think I will just go play Galactic Civilizations again after I am done with the playthrough in this game.

Edit: This game is unplayable on large maps. The performance late game is just shockingly bad. The game runs in slow motion and it almost impossible to finish the game.

It's a really fun game, with a lot of empire customisation options and a random map. I prefer it to most Paradox games because of this, as I find it gives a lot of replayability. It can - like most Paradox and 4X games - be a bit hard to learn in the beginning, and learning the strats requires a little bit of research, but once you know whats going on you are in for a treat.

There's a lot of events and interactions, and the exploration part of the game is one of my favourite, because its where you try to estimate and secure your borders, setting the scene for future alliances and rivals, resources and planets you can colonise. As a government you get a lot of options for how to take care of your galactic empire, who gets what rights, what species gets to live in luxury, or what you want your planets to specialize in. The multiplayer is a wonderful (albeit broken, I'll talk about that later) experience that can, just like mario cart, make or break friendships. One of my favourite parts is dividing up the AI empires between the players, or going as far as waging war over their territories and resources. Some elements of this game are tedious, some builds unviable, and some bugs unwavering, and that's because Paradox doesn't know how to make a game engine, so we end up with what sometimes feels like a flash game running on a Nokia 3310.

This game often feels incomplete when playing multiplayer as internet connection can make the game near unplayable with some people. You have to take unmentioned precautions when playing the MP, such as not taking actions while paused. For an example of how bugged the MP can be, one of the leviathan events is completely broken when playing multiplayer (enigmatic fortress), and some events can cause desync which threatens the stability of the game. The AI is more or less worthless without serious handicaps, and rely entirely on their numbers in fleet power and economic output to threaten you, both in single and multiplayer.

Despite this once you get into the game, and also when you get together with friends to play it, a lot of these issues fade from your memory, like a dream of rage being forgotten moments after you wake up. It's fun if you know what you're doing and what options to pick for your empire both before and after starting a game. I'd recommend getting a friend to help you through it, or watch one of those hour long tutorials that in detail explain how you want your flag to look.

The AI military/expansion is absolutely abysmal, In detail:
They will never strategically place combat resources, glaringly obvious choke points are ignored.
They will trickle forces into you rather than doing a full assault.
They will avoid your invasion force if they have no fleet bigger.
They will not combine their own forces.
They will distribute their combat resources inefficiently, distributing 3 ships every other sector.
The AI will starve itself to death.
The AI has absolutely no situational awareness. You can block it from a lane path with a territory and will just sit there trapped in a state of nothingness for the entire game.

The AI will declare war if it feels like it can beat someone 1v1, but it doesn't stop there. It will declare war versus multiple people at the same time using this logic. If you invited them to a federation, for example, there's no way to remove them from the federation while there is a war, and they will never let the wars end. Meanwhile, their fleet logic wont let them move their main fleet because it's afraid it will lose it in a 4v1 scenario, so it just holds it back at a default main planet while the enemy AI takes their territories. Essentially, the AI cannot and does not understand what its military is doing. They will perpetually spam wars with people until they are weakened or destroyed, meanwhile any member of the federation they are in is griefed the entire game. The AI is incapable of making rational decisions and will gladly declare war with so many people it destroys itself.

Diplomacy is essentially non-existent, in detail:
Civilizations only want to be your friend if you're stronger than them.
There's no way to demand territories from AIs without forcibly taking them from them.
There's no way to request to trade territories from AI, only trading them TO the AI.
Claiming does nothing outside war context.

Combat quality is basically an afterthought.
Combat is whoever has the biggest number.
Combat lasts 3-10 seconds, depending on the equality of the encounter.
I should not have to mod my game to have a more enjoyable combat experience.
There is no strategy involved. a 1400 fleet of corvettes will be destroyed by a 1500 titan, and vice versa. There's nothing else.

The UI is trash.
This game has been out for how long and I still can't see the total pops per planet for resettlement?
You cannot return to your previous planet from the resettlement screen.
You cannot organize your planets or sectors.
The outliner is useless about three hours into every single game.
The resettlement screen becomes a mess with only the option of alphabetical sorting.

Other thoughts
Designing a custom empire is fun.
Increasing the difficulty does not increase the difficulty, it increases how hard the AI cheats. This, by extension may increase the difficulty, but in a very unrealistic way. It does not increase or change how well they play. They will ALWAYS play terribly and try to expand randomly. They have no logic to them whatsoever.
Machine empires are 3x easier to play than organic populations. 100% habitability, ability to produce populations from alloy, no food, no consumer goods. I had a 2800 pop and the next organic pop was 800.

When writing this review, I only have 23 hours on the game, and after those 23 hours. All I can say that is I had fun playing Stellaris for all those hours. The game does a learning curve, you need to know how to start your nation, empire, etc. Most people start off with going all out on their battle fleet, then their economy dies. This game is a strategy game. You must maintain a stable economy, fleet power, territory, in order to really do good in the game. It is hard at first, but you eventually get the hang of it.
