Quake Live wird wahrscheinlich mit seinem Vorgänger und auf der Basis von Quake 3, welches als einer der bekanntesten und erfolgreichsten Spiele in die Spielegeschichte eingegangen ist, in die Browserspiele-Geschichte eingehen. Mit Quake Live wird spielen am Browser revolutioniert und einen Schritt weiter gebracht und falls es nicht der Hit schlechthin wird, dann kann Activision und id Software zumindest aus ihrem inGame Werbekonzept lernen und es für weitere Spiele einsetzen. Potential ist also mehr als vorhanden.

Team Deathmatch (TDM): It's Red against Blue in a coordinated contest of carnage. Two teams of players work to control the arena and score the most frags on their foes over the course of 20 minutes. If you kill a member of your own team, you will score a negative frag.

ClanArena (CA): Red vs. Blue last man standing. Everyone starts with all weapons and an increased amount of health and armor. When one team frags all players from the other team they are awarded 1 point for the round, then a new round begins. The first team to win 10 rounds claims victory.

Capture the Flag (CTF): Slip into the other team's home base, grab its flag, and run home to score. Your own team flag must be present to score, so defense is equally important as offense in this classic battle of Red vs. Blue. Teams play for 20 minutes or until one team has walked away with 8 captures.

1-Flag CTF (1FCTF): A neutral flag spawns in the center of the map. Teams must pick up the flag and run it into the enemy base to score. Capturing the flag 8 time results in a win.

Harvester (HAR): An obelisk spawns in the middle of the arena. For each frag scored, a skull will pop out. Collect the enemy's skulls, and pick up your own team's to deny them, and capture the skulls in the enemy base for points. First team to 15 points wins the match.

Freeze Tag (FT): Shoot everyone on the other team! Fragging another player freezes them. Freeze all enemy team members to score a team point. Stand by frozen teammates for 3 seconds to thaw them.

Domination (DOM): Capture and hold command points placed around the map. Players start with all weapons and regenerate health and armor. Every few seconds, the score is increased by how many flags the team owns. Score 150 points to win.

Attack & Defend (AD): Capture The Flag mixed with Clan Arena. Take turns attacking and defending your base's flag. 1 point for a flag touch, and 2 points for capturing or eliminating the enemy team. First team to 15 points wins.

Red Rover (RR): Red Rover is a mix of Free For All with teams. Players start with all weapons, and fragging someone on the enemy team will cause them to join yours. The round ends when all players are on the same team. The player with the most frags after 10 rounds is the victor.

Quake Live ist ein Klassiker unter den Multiplayer Spielen, weil es alles bietet was ein Quake Fan begehrt. Die Steuerung ist sehr präzise, der Sound klingt hervorragend, die vielen Maps und Charaktere bringen Abwechslung und gute Unterhaltung. Top Multi Player Ego Shooter zum kleinen Preis.

The greatest hits version of Quake multiplayer.

Quake Live (QL) fuses Quake 3 and Team Arena content, and adds quality-of-life changes and bug fixes to the mix.

It's more accessible for popular Quake 3 content via the Steam Workshop, but it isn't as moddable as Quake 3 was (you'll still want Q3 on hand for the full CPMA mod, for example).

The whole AFPS genre has been on life support for several years now, but the offline bot matches will render Quake Live eternal.

This game is great. Why won't I recommend it? Because despite loving its gameplay, having thousands of hours, AND having competed against big name duel pros back when this was played at dreamhack, I find all the fun of returning to this game sucked out of it within two days by some of the most socially stunted people you can imagine. I scoffed at another review initially, thinking that they were exaggerating when describing this in different terms, but many people playing this are insufferable. One imagines that they do not play this game because they want to, but because they don't have anything else. To say you should pay for this experience just doesn't add up. Save your money, go have some stale fries from mcd or something.

Game itself is awesome and the Best Multiplayer ID Software has to offer, maybe even OAT.
However *this* Community should not be burdened with Matchmaking, the Community Servers only offer the Meta-est boring & balanced Maps and are overcrowded with ridiculous playercounts per map.
Not a single noob friendly vanilla server with reasonable ping and a varied map rotation and don't get me started on the excessive Sexism and Racism of this degenerate cesspool of a community

I wasn't around for the age of arena shooters.
I've had more fun with this game than any modern shooter combined, just in my short amount of hours.
Play this while you still can, you won't regret it.

great game. takes a lot of skill and practice. movement is interesting. hard to find players who are new or casual with it but if you are into quake this is a solid one to pick up. most of the time you will have to find people to play with but i have managed to join some public games and play with others on a few occasions in 2022 and there are a handful of active discord groups. so with some effort or a group of friends you can run some quake matches. having workshop support is also an awesome feature for a game like this.

Pretty good game, very hard to play and impossible to master. Even playing against bots while listening to music is extremely fun. Requires an extreme amount of skill, and definitely isn't anything like modern shooters. It's better.

It's Quake, but multiplayer only. That sums it up pretty well. The series always had extremely good core mechanics with weak stories, so the develops focused in on what the series did best. I lament the lack of a campaign anyway, but this game is a joy to play.

Pure fun. Essentially Quake III Arena and Team Arena put together to make one hell of an awesome arena shooter. Don't let my 1.5 hour playtime fool you! The game does have a fully working offline mode, something that you don't see in a lot of more modern multiplayer games, with every map available and tons of bots. No microtransactions, no added expenses, just pure Quake fun! 5/5

Been playing this game for 12 years or more now and its still rock solid with an active community and player base still to this day despite the game being over 20 years old, i recommend this game to everyone due to the people that play iit are all like minded and the community will welcome new players into the game with no worries, so please join us for a frag or a flag if you have the time i think the game is only retailing at roughly $10

It's Quake III Arena, with a few quality of life enhancements, but its main advantage is that people actually still play it! Quake 3 has hundreds of servers still running, but they're pretty much 100% populated by bots. Quake Live on the other hand has got plenty of servers still well-populated and with good ping too. I've played a ton of Quake 3, but sadly until now it has been only with bots, which is still something since the a.i. is really good. But still, nothing like the real deal. Quake Live has been an absolute joy to play. The only downside is there's no blood/gore, but really you barely notice the difference. Corpses simply spark up and explode into light instead of showers of red, so the satisfaction of gibbing is still present. And at $3 on sale, this is a great deal for imo one of the greatest multiplayer FPS deathmatch experiences of all time.

I like the game. I just can't recommend it to everyone. Maybe if it was free, but otherwise you'll have to be a very specific demographic to actually enjoy it. That demographic being someone who enjoys arena shooters, doesn't mind getting shit on for a while, and doesn't enjoy any of the modern arena shooters out right now, and doesn't mind playing at 70+ ping at the lowest (if west coast player). part of the reason I play this is because champions won't run for me due to some performance issue that has been around for years and hasn't been patched.

it's filled with sweaty 30 year olds but if you can stand sucking at the game for a long time, it is worth getting better. It is the truest form of FPS skill. Precision, Timing, Position, Speed, Resource Management, Rocket Jump.

I once commented that Quake Champions was the spiritual successor to Quake III Arena. That is still true.

Quake Live, however, is undoubtedly the heir apparent to Quake III Arena, and I highly recommend it!

It's no longer free, and I really don't care. If you like Quake III Arena, then this must be in your library!!!

This game was once amazing, but it's simply unplayable in it's current state. Due to the fact that Bethesda inexplicably paygated this game (presumably to herd people over to Champions), the only players who remain are those who have played for years, and as a result, if you are a new player, you can and will be immediately kicked from any server, or fragged constantly to the point where you may as well have been.

This game needs to be free again. It's silly paying for a watered-down version of Quake III when I could just buy Quake III. The reason that this game was popular at all is because it was Quake III but free, with all the caveats that such a status would entail - making it paid is not the answer. Bethesda being money-hungry as always and attempting to generate revenue in the exact wrong ways. A crying god-damn shame.

This is honestly one of the best games I've owned and played. Having played it since it was a browser-based game, I can firmly say that this is one of, if not the, most definitive OG Quake/Arena Shooter experiences I've ever had. The game is slightly dead-er than it used to be, but that won't deter me from recommending it to others.

If you're acquainted with Q3A, or it's derivative CPMA, Quake Live isn't much different. The game itself uses a modified Quake 3 engine, and it's thus really easy to add your own maps. Much like Q3A, this game also has movement-based modifications similar to DeFrag. In fact, Quake Live supports VQL (Vanilla) and PQL (Pro-mode) physics, which makes it very fun to play with friends.

Just buy it already.

After playing Quake champions and returning to this you have to wonder why in the world Bethesda hasn't decided to release a visually updated q3 arena and give it another name. Not for those who get frustrated easily and the skill ceiling is huge. Q3 Arena is regarded as the best arena shooter for a reason. (come at me unreal fans you know it's true) Enough of scaring you from trying this, just play it otherwise you will never get your skill up. If you get motion sickness from games this isn't the one for you. Learn how to strafe jump and bunny hop and then master your aim. Movement, map knowledge+ timing pickups, and predicting your enemy's next move are key to success in quake. 20+ years and this game still shines.

This is the game where I learned strafe jumping and all the other movements mechanics. I play it since 2009 and it's still the best PvP FPS. It's fast, very fast, it's brutal and merciless. I was getting destroyed when I started, but I sticked to it because the movements were mesmerizing, the sound effects amazing and the weapons balance perfect.

This is one of the games with the most amount of custom maps. There is a Race mode (defrag) and a Steam Workshop!

There are a few things to setup before starting (/com_idleSleep to have stable frame rate, /com_maxFPS 250 to increase the frame rate cap). The maps are colorful and vivid, the movements are absolutelly amazing and there is a ranking system (thanks to the Quake community for that). There is 2 main rulesets for movements, VQ3 and CPM/Turbo which has massive amount of air control. For Race mode I like both altough I prefer VQ3, for fighting modes I prefer VQ3 as the Turbo servers have fast weapons switch which I don't like.

I play it with max graphics settings and increased details + anisotropic filtering 16x and AA 8x forced in NVIDIA drivers.

If you are getting destroyed, you can join some servers which have level restriction based on Elo ranking (mainly FFA servers, some Clan Arena servers also), you can also try FreezeTag mode, or InstaGib/InstaFreeze. I suggest you try the Race mode, there are a TON of great maps. Don't be shy on asking for advices (there are people that will give you great combat skills advices).

10/10. Best quake game by far imo. Better version of quake 3, every player has aim similar to mine, and rocket jumping is quite literally a blast. If you want to get into Quake, Play this one.

honestly its pretty good if you wanna play quake during lunch break with random people or if you wanna get into quake in general, i dont recommend spending full price on it unless you really really want to (i got it while it was free and i recommended it when it was on sale)

in eu there is only one server left and those server owners cheat elo and just ban you for 10 years without any reason given! in other reagions is even worse. this has to end, you need to remove this game.
fucking shame. you play a game for over 10 years and have to see how incapble admins and scriptkids just ruin it and nobody is willing to do anything about it. dead game. dont buy it! since its an multiplayer game relaying on servers, and almost has none at all, it needs to be unlisted on steam or at least given a clear warning about that fact!

This game was (is?) the pinnacle of Arena-FPS.
Its 2020 and no true successor has come after it yet.

Reflex had potential but it never really caught on despite its amazing netcode. Maybe due to CPMA movement.
Quake Champions exists but its a pain to run, the community is very small, has no dedicated servers/demos/few maps, has champions, and in beta for 4 years? lol. And 1 dev. It's only hanging on thanks to Quake Pro League and battle passes for skins.
Now Diabotical is out with a ton of hype and is currently the newest big contender for the QL throne.

So yeah, Quake Live is/was pretty good. Yeah it looks old, but if you have interest in these kinds of games then its pretty much timeless since all you need is someone around your skill level to enjoy it.

I got this as a practice game for Diabotical during the summer sale. Ended up being better than I expected. However, my one big complaint is that IT NEEDS TO BE FREE. This game is a decade old, has a successor in the franchise which is 6 years younger, and averages 300-400 concurrent players. It would be nice to try and get new people into the genre with a classic F2P game. I can't imagine any money is being made on it right now anyway, especially considering that the price went up $7 at the end of the sale. Is it still worth the $10? Yeah, but as someone who wanted this game to practice for another one, I'm a lot easier to convince than people who don't play arena FPS games yet.

Not a lot of players on anymore, but you can still find servers any time of the day. Learning curve is steep. If you're new to arena FPS games, here are some things I would recommend:

1. Doing all the training in the game.
2. Watching video tutorials on YouTube. You'll need to understand item cycling. A few game modes have dedicated places for certain items (weapons, health, armor) where you can pick them up every so often. Learning how to keep picking them up, which ones you want to pick up, and how to prevent your opponents from picking them up is very important. If you don't want to bother with it, there are some game modes without this feature. The movement mechanics are also better explained by people on the internet than they are in the game.
3. Make your own lobbies with bots and use that time to at least adjust your controls and maybe practice item cycling against them and your movement. The default controls are trash. There are helpful YouTube vids about control schemes, too. There are so many maps that it's not worth trying to learn them all beforehand, so don't worry about that.
4. Don't get discouraged. You will get crushed as a new player in most modes. If you're really accurate you might be good at instagib (sniper and melee only, 1-shot kills). Instagib is one of my two favorites alongside clan arena, a team deathmatch mode in which you start with a bunch of weapons and have one life per round.
5. Try to avoid very crowded servers, especially FFA, at first because they're total clusterf*cks. You'll get destroyed, and you won't learn anything. Some player counts are inflated by bots, too. The server browser will tell you if there are bots in a server, and those servers are usually fine in terms of crowd size despite showing a huge number in the browser. I see one instagib server every day that shows like 20+ including the bots, but it's usually like 4 humans and 1 bot playing. The bots get kicked as people join.

I'm not great at Arena FPS games yet but I'm starting to finish in the middle of my team in clan arena and occasionally winning instagib with 36 hours of gameplay. I thought my progress would be slower based on what others have said about Quake.

This game doesn't require fancy graphics, most people lower them anyway. It is the most configurable game around these days. You can choose from so many modes and configurations. And it's still got the best movement and weapons of any game.

Damnnn as a TF2 lover to play the game where it all came from. Damn I love this only problem is that it has a resolution startup problem that I had to search up on how to fix (and got it fixed). Such a great game!

This is a barren wasteland of a game. Nobody to play with in 2020 and also even if you manage to find other players to play with in a team match they will just boot you from the game for having higher pings or for just sucking at the game. For me the match lobbies dont even show the matches anymore like i have been barred from seeing any match. Most of my time was spent spectating waiting in line for a turn in the match and i get in and not even 5 minutes into the match i get booted. What a great game 0/10 will NEVER EVER play quake live again for as long as i live. I regret paying for this game and warn you to look elsewhere for enjoyment.

Well, what can I say. The game has very few players and literally zero newbs. If you're new and want to practice with other newbs - tough luck, you won't find any.
What you'll find is vets who will frag you with their eyes closed while you struggle to do any damage and can't even hit them.

Not a good way to learn the game when every battle takes 3-5 seconds because you just can't compete with the vets.

Game is incredibly fast and unbelievably hard to get into, and you will often get kicked from servers for being a newb.

All in all, it was a frustrating experience and I rate it 2/10. Can't believe the game is pay to play.
