The Banner Saga: Factions ist der Free-to-Play Multiplayer-Ableger von The Banner Saga. Im Kern haben wir hier ein rundenbasiertes Arena-Taktikspiel vor uns. So schön auch Banner Saga ist, hier kommt nicht wirklich Stimmung auf. Das eigentliche Spiel lebt von seiner tollen Geschichte, die aber hier keine Wirkung entfaltet. Wir dreschen uns einfach mit ähnlichen Gruppen herum. Das zieht sich teilweise erheblich. Hauptproblem sind letztlich aber die kaum vorhandenen Mitspieler. Schade das man nicht auf die Idee kam auch Koop-PvE und Bots als Ersatz für menschliche Gegner für PvP einzufügen. Das hätte dem Spiel gut getan. So ist das Spiel letztlich eine Art Demo-Version für die Kämpfe von Banner Saga.

Wow...great turn-based-tactic game. At the beginning its hard to fight pvp, but you learn fast and the gaming mechanics are great. Community helps at the start (very nice people!), you ve got a lot of possibilities to create your individual combat group. Best Free2play I ever played....
You dont need to buy anything, but it helps a bit at the start.

Wer sich ein Bild darüber machen will, wie ein zentraler Aspekt des Hauptspiels, das Kampfsystem von The Banner Saga, aussieht, kann sich hier einen guten Eindruck verschaffen.

Die Spielmechanik an sich ist gut durchdacht und einfach zu erlernen. Da man jedoch gegen menschliche Gegner antritt, kann das Spiel mitunter sehr fordernd sein.

Nettes Spiel für zwischendurch.

Für zwischendurch interessantes F2p Strategiespiel,mit schönem Look.
Die Zeichnungen können sich wirklich sehen lassen und sind sehr stimmig.

Kämpfe werden immer Fair ausgewählt,dh man trifft auf Gleichwertige Gegner.

Freunde von Rundenstrategie mit Rpg Elementen können aufjedenfall mal reinschaun.

Ein simples PVP Strategiespiel mit enormen taktischem Tiefgang. Free to Play, einfach zu erlernen und ein Match dauert gerade mal eine Viertelstunde. Wer die Kämpfe von Disciples 2 oder Heroes of MM5 mochte, dürfte sich angesprochen fühlen.

Only started recently.. been a fan of the Banner Saga for a few years now.. never thought factions would be so fun and addicting! Highly recommended even for new players!

I've played through the entire trilogy of Banner Saga (on Switch,) and I can tell you it's absolutely amazing. The story, characters, gameplay, audio, and visuals, all of it is astounding, I wholly recommend it.

This game, however, is a multiplayer-only free-to-play companion game. As such, there is no story to speak of here, which is the main reason why this series is so spectacular. Of course, it still looks great, and considering the purpose of this title, good gameplay is the only thing it really needs.
Well... Gameplay and a playerbase.

And here lies the biggest problem. For years now, before the second game in the trilogy was even released in 2016, Factions was already dead. No one plays it anymore.
So, unless you bring your own friend and only play against them, or go on some external sources and find a stranger to agree to play with you on a specific date, you'll have absolutely nothing to do here.

Dead game that had potential; if you are lucky enough to find a match you will probably get your butt kicked since the only way to earn stat bonuses without paying is to win.

I guess no one plays this game anymore. Can't get even one match on after the tutorial, as the quick match system can't find anyone for you to play with, and there isn't any other content available besides that.

The game is dead. If you are just starting, don't bother to install. There is noone to play with at starting level and no single player content.

Dead game. No single player and no one online to play against. Of course I'm sure they have no problem accepting payment for mirco-transactions. Also, why do the other games still cost so much. I know they probably need the money, but the game is old and I already bought 1&2 on ipad. But they didn't release 3 for Ipad. No new games like this out either. Disappointing.

The idea of this game was absolutely fantastic. However, this title was abandoned from their makers, leaving only a rotting corpse, in the massive graveyard of The dead games.

So you put together a team of viking and giant warriors and fight short tactical turnbased fights and tournaments to get renown, wich is used to buy more space for warriors or upgrade your warriors. You get matched against players with the same combined level of fighters, resulting in very even matches.
The combat system is identical to the banner saga, with the only exception of some small changes to the abilities of some units.

Though I strongly recommend the game, there are some issues that you should know before playing.

First of all it is a player vs player only game. There is no training mode or single player, if you want that you have to buy The banner Saga (strongly recommended as well).

The second major issue is that the game seems kind of forgotten by the developers, there are memory leak issues that cause lag, and updates are close to nonexistent.

The third issue is that most player quit due to the first two, or the fact that the gameplay changes very little over time, resulting in very few players online at any moment. This of course can cause painfully long periods of waiting for a match. This is also to some extent caused by the matching system, in wich you may be unable to battle anyone at all if you don't have enough warriors to put together teams of different levels (ironically happens predominantly to new players).

With those things out of the way, this is really fun and challenging game for you tactics fans. The turn system is different from many other games and is of extreme tactical importance, and to me the number of classes and restrictions are enough for a large umber of tactics and combos.

Adressing the issues: The first becomes a non-issue after like four fights. The community is great and everyone are excited for new players and will help you get started.
The second issue is bad, but in theory if more people play it the devs should work more to upgrade it. It will also likely get a boost after the release of newly announced TBS2.
The third issue is the hard one. I personally don't think its boring, just as I dont think chess is boring, even if chess hasnt got any upgrades or new skins for decades =). And remember that many quit because there are too few players already. what kind of logic is that? But I won't judge anyone who played the game for a year and a half, waiting for someone to fix the lag and crash issues, and stopped playing when nothing happened.
