8/10 Schnabeltieren

Was soll man da noch groß sagen?

I like the game and all, the puzzles is great in my opinion. But I can't really recommend this game. I love Deponia the complete journey. It has a nice tips system and chapter to replay. There are no features like that in Deponia doomsday. In Deponia the complete journey, I did encounter some bug and have to restart. luckily there are chapter to choose so it isn't really far off. In deponia doomsday, restart mean starting all over again. I just get a bug today and have to restart :(. Rip, maybe i will try it again someday, but not gonna be soon.

Hey there, fellow Deponia trilogy player!
Did you dislike the ending to the trilogy? Did you dislike how many things were left unresolved?
If you did, don't play this game. Don't play this expecting things to change. To quote the creator, Poki, in the opening Huzzah song, the only one in the game:

---

At this stage it's evident,
There will be no happy end,
Suck it up princess, no one cares for your tears!
It's over and I have no damns to give,
For second thoughts that you're stuck with,
Looking for loopholes and wondering 'what if?'

Huzzah, still wondering 'what if...?'

---

This game is a high quality shitpost. Everything is watered down compared to the trilogy, but for what it is, it's disgustingly well-made.

Thanks Poki, I hate it.

First three are great, this one not so much. The story isn't that engaging and doesn't capture that Deponia magic. The solutions to a lot of the puzzles feel like a reach of the imagination. You'd be better off just watching a walkthrough.

Neutral to Like.

Deponia ( The complete Journey ) was and still is one of my favorite games. I still play it some times when I want to chill or get my mind off of things.
Now, this isn't the case for Deponia Doomsday however.

Pros:
- I really love the Artstyle and the Music as usual, and the fact that you learn a bit more about Rufus living in Kuvaq and its characters is something that I enjoyed a lot. Especially about Lotti and Toni- since they are some of my favorite characters. This is where you will see Toni's parents for the first time too-which makes you wonder How did Toni turned out to be that way xD.
- You can finally play on Elysium, I love this place so much and the minigames on the FUN ZONE!
- PinkElephant's Hideout/Chinese Porcelain Animals
- Ronny / Ronny's song.
- Baby Goal.

Cons:
- The time travel thing got me really confused on some points and a bit tired.
-Some Bugs (Timer bugs on 2 stages and ends in like 2 secs instead of the actual time given).
- Giant Maggot's Fate.
- 1001 JACKALOPES ACHIEVENT.

Deponia Doomsday is a point&click adventure game and the fourth game in the Deponia series following 'Deponia', 'Chaos on Deponia' and 'Goodbye Deponia' in sequential order. Do not play this one first as you would not only spoil things, you'd also be horribly lost on what's going on. Took me 13 hours to beat using the keyboard and a mouse. Difficulty is medium-easy, with some timed parts being frustrating.

- This has the most interesting, convoluted quest line of the series, and is also the easiest compared to the others. I didn't get stuck nearly as bad as I did in the last few.

- Many of the bugs from previous games have been sorted in this one

- Not all of the achievements are easily attainable. In fact one is so impossible someone in the community forum created a code to do it for you.

- You get an artbook, soundtrack, and concept art with this game! They're buried in the local files, so right-click the game in your library, go to Manage, and click 'browse local files' then it's in a 'bonus' folder.

- What everyone else said about the ending in every other review of Deponia Doomsday out there. In fact, this whole game feels like a long-winded, overly-creative and expensive way to explain away the ending of game 3 that everyone hated.

All in all, I greatly enjoyed playing Deponia Doomsday. The overarching scifi epic take to the story was fascinating and I loved all the little nuances behind each wayward part. Unlike the previous games in the series, the chapters of this were more organized and felt easier to solve. Like a previous Deponia, the ending sits about as right as a feast of rancid cheese on fewlock ribs.

Rufus has either grown on me or changed in a positive way. I enjoyed the references to prior games. The gameplay itself was annoying at times, although, this is a point-and-click so that is mostly to be expected.

So this is how it is.
First off: i didn't like the ending of the original trio and that's absolutely fine, stories shouldn't always have a happy ending.
Now that i've read a couple of reviews of this one it seems i'm far from being the only one that felt like that ending was a huge letdown even if
Rufus is held accountable for manslaughter of at least two children, splitting apart a loving couple and getting one of them brainwashed while the other is forced into possible slavery, refusal to help that trapped shopkeeper, murder of an ice cream vendor, all deaths aboard Elysium and its crash landing and subsequent deaths on Deponia and the list goes on
.
If you forget about the story, doomsday is still a pretty good point-and-click adventure, they even fixed some problems the originals had like the inventory double click delay and general input lag (which really isn't that important in this type of game but it gets frustrating).
But you cant just forget the story of a story driven game, this whole time travel mess could easily be replaced by a 30 second extension of the last cutscene in 'goodbye deponia' where
Goal could finally learn that Rufus is the one with three hairs on his chin, they both get married and then he explodes because of a failed experiment
.
I cant help but feel like we have all been baited with a false hope glued to a 10 hour long pile of sci-fi.

Don't get me wrong, that pile of sci-fi is interesting and fun to go trough.
But i'd give it all away for a better ending.

The art is very good, most of the puzzles are way more logical compared to the original trilogy. Unfortunately the second part of the game is where it goes downhill very quickly. It's just a bunch of locations slapped together and it stops making any sense. The worse thing is that some puzzles are time-limited which is a big no in a point and click game.

So going to be completely honest on this game. Don't get it. Don't get it if it is on sale. This game adds virtually nothing to the trilogy. There is no new insight into Rufus, no further development of the story, no continuation. That Steam blurb about the game and the implications? Lies. It is an 8 hour mess designed to play off your enjoyment of the other games and then finish it off by telling you the trilogy was perfect and if you at all wanted things different you are wrong. It is especially bad as throughout the game they will repeatedly tell you to never give up hope and thus giving you, the player, the feeling that you can change things. Nope! If you thought the trilogy had a good ending this game won't add anything and if you wanted a different ending this game will only frustrate you. It feels like a screw you from the company that you get to pay for. Just enjoy the first three games. I would have preferred they just never would have made this game.

While not as difficult as its predecessors, Deponia Doomsday is a fun return to the world of Deponia with the humor you would expect.

Aspects of the game were obviously made in response to fans' reactions to the ending of the original trilogy, and, well,
if you didn't like the ending to the third, you will not be pleased with the ending to this one.
Oh, also, there's a repetitive achievement that takes a couple of hours to complete if you use a script to do it for you, so have fun achievement hunters.

Deponia Doomsday is the fourth and final instalment of the Deponia point-and-click series by Daedalic Entertainment.

The story and the world are interesting.
The art style, music and voice acting are great and fitting.
The characters are charming (and odd) and the dialogues are full of humor.
The puzzles are often not very logical. You have to think outside the box a lot!

I skipped this one when it originally came out, due to the lukewarm reviews and middling reception by the 'orthodox' adventure gamer cohort. Picked it up for about a euro. This is adorable, inane, insane, Deponian fun, same as always. Does it reach the heights of 'Chaos on Deponia'? Certainly not. It's still a lovingly made old-school point and click adventure game though, guaranteed to delight genre (and series) fans.

This is no revisit, this is no continuation, this is no sequel or prequel. The original trilogy will remain the same regardless of whether you play this or not.

If you’re hoping to gain lore from the original story through this, there is none.

There was money, resources and time to make a fourth Deponia game and they made a game where no matter what happened in it, it didn’t matter in any way at all. Nothing changed, nothing expanded

The intro music to the game even mocked you for even buying the game in the first place.

Paradox - a situation or statement that seems impossible or is difficult to understand because it contains two opposite facts or characteristics: [ + that ] It's a curious paradox that drinking a lot of water can often make you feel thirsty.

#Possible Spoilers Below#

Well what a game, I came searching for this after completing the third, looking for that happy ending that we all hoped this game would give us. Instead the developer created an entire sequel (prequel?) to show us that self sacrifice can be so great that it forms an anchor point in time. Not even the doer of the impossible, the man who believes that no one gets very far unless their doing the impossible at least once a day; our Rufus can change that.

The games story is beautifully written and well thought out, the playthrough was really enjoyable and the ending bitter sweet but the journey was well worth the feelings of intense sorrow.

NO SPOILERS.

Deponia Doomsday is THE END of the crazy and amazing journey of young and energetic Deponian, Rufus.

In this last episode, all rivers end up in the same lake.

PROS:
- Story is again very well writter and told
- Environments are again very diverse and very pleasing to look at
- Music is nothing extraordinary, even some songs from previous games are used, but music is not the most important aspect of this game so it is okay to not be perfect
- length (about 10 to 20 hours depending on whether you know exactly what to do or not)
- characters are again very well made
- excelent voice acting and dialogs
- some very funny scenes and even easter eggs as references to other well known franchises

CONS:
- not any really in terms of the game content itself
- maybe just a price is a too high ( 19.99 € ) for being a point & click adventure? idk for sure

Deponia Doomsday is the fourth and final game in the Deponia series. This is a sequel to the main trilogy, having some of the same characters and locations of interest but following a plot that is separate from the overarching plot of the first three games. The plot explores a lot of really meta elements, exploring timelines and the future.

This one is a time travel story, exploring an earlier version of Rufus trying to change his fate through the power of time travel. When a time traveler backs his car into Rufus's life before he meets Goal on Deponia, Rufus has to try to set the future right. Time travel could lead to a perfect ending for Rufus and Goal, or it could mean the end of Deponia. This game explores the lives of Rufus and Goal before the events of the first game, and also explores some possible futures after the end of the third game.

The gameplay is similar to that in the first two games, involving a series of puzzles and minigames that progress you through the story. I found the puzzles to be at an optimal difficulty in this one. Not all of them were very intuitive and a couple were actually frustrating, but I never actually had to look at a walkthrough or skip any of the minigames. I'm not sure if that says more about the actual difficulty of the puzzles or just some improvement in my patience this time around, but either way these puzzles were more enjoyable for me than in the other games overall.

Getting to explore elements of Rufus and Goal's personalities and backstories was really interesting. It expanded on some of the story and character aspects that were originally lacking. It's interesting seeing Rufus and Goal interacting with their previous love interests. It fleshes out a little bit of why Rufus and Toni's relationship ever worked and why Goal never seemed to be especially attached to Cletus. Goal's overall interest in Rufus is for me somewhat easier to buy in this one as well.

Overall, Deponia Doomsday is a really good addition to the Deponia series. I didn't love the ending, but it left off on a more satisfying note than Goodbye Deponia. In spite of this, however, it's still my favorite entry of the series overall. 8/10

So a bit of background. This is the 4th installment of the Deponia series, which generally speaking is probably one of the best point and click series of the modern era and generally the closest thing i've found to the wit and tone of the monkey island series.

The ending of that series was controversial and led to a large community backlash. The primary creator had a vision and stuck to his guns with the story he wanted told. As a fellow creator I respect that even if I FIRMLY disagree with him in this instance. I could go into details as to why but they are probably not super important in terms of this review. Maybe it's different cultural expectations or maybe I hate the illusion of choice but I feel the way it was handled both in game out was poor.

So this is where Doomsday fits in. This is literally the creator getting angry at HIS OWN FANS for not being happy with the raw deal ending and made an entire game as a revenge piece to say F**K you to the people who weren't happy. As much as i love this series i have a really hard time getting behind someone who can be this petty. I firmly believe that as a artist and content creator it's important to keep your voice, but at the same time i'm happy to find ways to give people what they want because those people who are buying your stuff are the ones that enable you to create/ be an artist for a living in a world that has largely lost it's respect for art and creative works as real jobs.

don't enable an devs egocentric baby fit and skip this installment of the game.

It may be a little different compared to the original trilogy. However, the game keeps its charm. The game features new characters, but they are likable. Rufus and Goal are back and seeing them interact is always hilarious. The writing is funny and the visuals don't disappoint just like the previous games.

The only things I have to criticize are the puzzles. Some of the puzzles you have to solve seem pretty random and hard to solve without a guide because it is not clear what is expected of the player, plus the time limits during the last half of the game are annoying.

Still I enjoyed playing the game and probably will replay the series in the future some time.

You'd think Deponia was a trilogy. But were you satisfied with its ending?
What if I told you there's a chance you've not paid full attention and Rufus is actually time-travelling?
Because that's what he's doing for a great part of the fourth installment in the Deponia series.
This is another great, if not as memorable point and click adventure for the sole reason it's not part of the bundle which seamlessly joins the first three parts.

These developers know how to write story. I loved Deponia 1-3 and this is another masterpiece. Fun and logical (rare nowadays in point and click). Do not spoil you experience with walkthrough manuals even you will be stuck sometimes. You need out of box thinking but solutions makes sense. I try to avoid even active zones highlight. With 2-3 exception cases I always found all active points without help and highlight only confirmed I discovered all available without point hunting. Characters are not only figures in story, you will care about them. If they decide release Deponia 5 I will not hesitate to spend money.

When I first heard about this game, I was a little sceptical because late additions to finished and beloved series always have the potential to make fans mad by changing established narratives or expanding the story in a way that does not match expectations.

However, I am glad to say that I don't feel like this is one of those cases.

The main focus of this game is time. As a consequence, exciting new mechanics are introduced that enhance the typical gameplay that point-and-click adventures like Deponia are known for. For example, settings will be revisited quite a few times with different problems but the same possible solutions, thus creating challenges that at least I haven't seen yet in a game like this.

Apart from that, time travel also allows showing interesting new perspectives of familiar settings from earlier games and gives insights into characters that have not been seen before. At the same time, Deponia Doomsday also introduces many new locations and characters. These characters are equally likable and unique as the ones that shaped the original trilogy and many of them are memorable despite their goofy attitude.

Nevertheless, there was one short part in this game where the rapid change of settings felt a little bit overwhelming. In that part, the story makes a lot of turns, too, so that it was quite hard to keep track of what's happening. However, the ending definitely makes up for any confusion that the implications of time travel might create.

All in all, this game is a worthy addition to the Deponia series with many great scenes, puzzles and even more attention to the beautiful visuals than in the earlier games. It does not take away importance of the story of the original trilogy, instead it gives a new perspective to it, while still telling a compelling story on its own and leaving you with a whole lot to think about.

[SPOILERS TO THE DEPONIA TRILOGY] A fitting tribute to expanding on ideas of the ending of Good by Deponia, which in itself is a beautiful story. It made me realise that the series was about something bigger (at least for me), that I couldn’t until now, put my tongue to. It’s of hope, but more than that, of a dream. A dream of a better life. Where Goal is literally and metaphorically that ideal; or more accurately being alongside her is. As they improve as people in each other’s presence, to which ultimately leads Rufus to make the ultimate non-narcissistic decision voluntarily. A truly fitting character ark resolution and ode to the romantic ideal.

More Deponia. You may have to look up a few steps as they are not always intuitive. Threre's plenty of references to the original trilogy and the game is generally fun to play. It gets a bit messy at the end due to the time travel plot and not everyone will find the ending satisfying. Make a lot of backup saves, as some game-breaking bugs have been reported. Getting every achievement is very time consuming.

Deponia Doomsday is a great sequel to the Deponia trilogy! If you liked trilogy then this is a must-play. Great puzzles, great comedy and quality story telling as before.

A minor spoiler and a fair warning though: don't expect a happy ending. I think the aim of this sequel is more to explain why the trilogy ended the way it did, and why their journey was not meaningless.

A game that didnt need to exist but im glad it does

Deponia doomsday is a fourth part to a trilogy, and its brilliant

Gameplay:
The gameplay in Deponia Doomsday is not too different from the last 3 games aside for quicktime events and few other small details
its very intuitive and i feel as if there are no red herrings

Story:
The story picks off where Goodbye Deponia left off (kind of...)
and has a lot of braintwists i personally enjoyed it as an excuse to see more of Rufus and the rest of the deponians
It's solid and filled with fanservice

Graphics:
I mentioned it in my complete journey review that the graphics in the Deponia series are kind of cartoony which is a very positive thing for the reason it makes the game stand in the test of time unlike other point and click adventures (daedalics or not)
they look crisp and have a lot of good animations for some actions, facial expressions are really good too

Overall:
Overall Deponia Doomsday is a great point and click game with loads and loads of good humor and scratches that itch to get more of the world and characters, I really like it and found myself playing it for loads and loads of hours
(except for that 1001 jackalopes achievement which took my hours upon hours of grinding, probably the hardest one in the series and i find it hard to believe 5% of the players did it without using any third party programs)
I see myself returning to Deponia Doomsday and the rest of the series in the future with feelings of nostalgia and happiness to know that some of the developers in daedalic really gave these games their all

I give Deponia Doomsday an all time classic for me a 10/10

pros

+ gorgeous looking and colorful hand drawn background artwork
+ well made long cartoony cut scenes
+ there are some funny moments
+ many different, funny and colorful cast of characters
+ Rufus finally showed a bit a positive character development
+ good character animations
+ decent voice acting
+ nice musics
+ some enjoyable puzzles. there are also inventory puzzles you can combine some items
+ when you press to space, hotspots highlighted so no need to pixel hunting.
+ easy to use interface
+ there are steam achievements and cards
+ there are many fun mini games

cons

- the temporal-loop story is a confusing mess and hard to comprehend
- frustrating timed puzzles and the looping plot involve lots of repetition
- story and characters still don't make any sense so neither do puzzle solutions. there is no hint system for obscure and contrived puzzles with nonsensical solutions therefore generally you don't know what supposed to do
- there are a lot of unnecessary long and corny dialogues. i generally skipped them
- the game teases with transsexual people
- characters can't run and just slowly walks one point to another.
- Steam achievements doesn't make any sense either.

Overall i found this game fast paced and more enjoyable from previous games. there are more action scenes and some fun moments.

Play the first three, enjoy playing a well drawn point and click with a crappy main character as well as some interesting/funny dialog until you can't stand it anymore leading to one of the most disappointing ending I've seen in a while. Then pick up this lovely (spoiler) PILE OF CRAP THAT WILL LEAD YOU THROUGH TIRELESS HOUR OF SIMPLY DEALING WITH THE SEMI INTERESTING STORY TO BE LEAD TO JUST ANOTHER SHITTY ENDING TO SPIT ON YOU FOR ALL THE TIME PUT FORTH TO PLAY THE GAME!

I don't like leaving negative reviews especially for games that I enjoyed playing.

This is a fun game and it was good to finally see Rufus finally develop a bit as a character, but 4 bad endings in a row is a bit much. This game has a surprisingly dark and depressing story for such a cartoonish game.

If I knew these games was going to be like this going in then I would have given it a skip.

The sequel to Deponia the Complete Journey, is just as fun & witty, from start to finish as the first three games. The ending is a bit better,
but still sad as the story tugs at you believing you'll get that happy ending you had hoped for, only to take it away like before.
I suggest picking up this game to finish the story, it is well written as its prequels.

In short - Play this game, but don't bother finishing it if you get stuck.

The characters, dialogue, and overall pacing of the game are amazing. It's definitely worth playing. An even better installment than the previous 3.

More logical too, only had to use a walkthrough 3 times in this one.

However this game has a critical flaw in that the ending basically negates your entire playing experience. As the end you walk out feeling as though the entire game has wasted your time. If you didn't like the ending of Deponia 3, this game will feel like it cheats you even worse.

The worst Part in the Series so far ...

While it was initially fun to see Rufus in action again, doing the nonsense he does all the time this is a real downer when it comes to sequels. At first this game looked like a pretty good prequel to the other parts, but it soon turned out to be a repetitive nuisance. Not only did the devs pick up on a convoluted plot (
dealing with the time travel paradox
), they even through in annoying mini games where you start mashing away on your mouse. If that wouldn't be bad enough, at more than one point in the game you are stuck with a timer to solve the, lets face it, sometimes extravagant riddles.
Due to time traveling being a huge part of this game you basically have all the time in the world, since you are at those times trapped in a time loop.
The timers don't even let you listen to the conversations at full, even by skipping through them. It happened more than once that I was hard pressed to solve the riddles in time. This is annoying and frustrating and imho has no place in a genre that is based on a slow pace.

The riddles themselves are in no way as demanding as the ones in the previous instalments. Whilst still challenging at times, it felt more like a intricate plot was thought up and then thrown in a box along with some basic puzzles. The tutorial itself is basically a text prompt that gets in the way when you least need it and just doesn't have the Charme of its predecessors. Since the game is so simply strung it no longer has the hint system implemented. Whilst arguable if this is a bad thing, it also let you keep track of the game if you haven't touched it in a while.

So if you like button mashers Adventure games and gameplay with repetitive tasks ad infinitum, then this is the game for you. Otherwise stick to the ending of the third part.
It won't get any better.
Trust me!

Similar to the previous 3 games but feels a bit different. If you liked them you'll like it, but don't expect any improvements.

Pros:
- Somewhat interesting story that's not just a continuation of the original trilogy
- Humorous parts

Cons:
- Still no hint system!
- I found it too difficult to do without a walkthrough (though it's no more difficult than the original games)
- There aren't any songs at the end of each chapter, just at the beginning and end. The chorus guys have been given electronic sound effects which sound ridiculous
- There's another pointless collectible achievement. I wouldn't have noticed a single hat without using a guide.
- Came across a bug near the end. If you find yourself unable to get across the bridge to the car, exit and restart the game and it'll work fine

Verdict: 7/10

The final(?) game of the series made entirely to justify the ending of Goodbye Deponia to many people.
Is the game good? Yes, like all of the other games of the series, it was quite an adventure as I can say. It has humour, puzzles and our good old Rufus.
Could this game not have existed? Maybe, but with it a lot of people got not only another good game of the series but to accept that not every ending must be the way you like, it's up to the author.
