Über das Spiel

INFRA puts you into the boots of an ordinary structural analyst – nothing more than a desk jockey assigned to survey some routine structural damage. Quickly though, your mission turns from a mundane trek to a fight for survival, all caused by deep-rooted schemes of the past. Your tools are simple: the camera around your neck and the wits to navigate a virtual labyrinth of debris. How you tell your story is your choice, will you have the commitment to finish your duty, or will you ignore all else but the preservation of your own life?

INFRA is what we like to call a gun-free puzzle adventure. Instead of large explosions and powerful guns, you will rely on your cunning to survive puzzles in an incredibly detailed world. As you travel through the infrastructure of a city you will find that your actions and thorough observations ultimately determine if others will survive. A society obsessed with upgradation has brought a disaster upon itself and it is your job to help restore it.

Features:
 • Solve varying mechanical and electrical puzzles
 • Explore highly detailed maps with multiple routes and hidden secrets
 • Visit dozens of unique locations, each with their distinctive gameplay
 • Avoid hazards and survive in the crumbling world
 • Learn about the city of Stalburg and its people
 • Uncover a massive scheme behind the city's problems

Its not what is expected. I thought of this more of a walking simulator not a puzzelgame with over 20 hours to complete with some really weird moments. A true hidden gem.

Also you are basicly fixing a whole city all by yourself.

Wow, this game is incredible! Now it's one of my absolute favorite games. It has a typical adventure and puzzle gameplay, but the story and all scenarios are so incredibly good. At the moment it seems as if there are no more developments in the game, that is very sad. But I hope that we will soon hear more from INFRA.

Incredible immersive sim which people might call this walking sim but i'd argue that this game is way beyond that. Level design and puzzles are incredible. More often than not you actually have to look around or read some docs before you start doing something. Some levels are more open than the others so they may felt confusing but often it's because I didnt explore enough and pay much attention to details when I should.

Though this game was largely held up by source engine's janky-as-fvck physics and collision, and very jarring movement limitation which i really dont like (stop adding fucking mantling in source engine games titanfall already proved these never works!!!!!).

INFRA is an absolutely darling little game about playing as a building inspector in a scandinavian country unraveling a grand government conspiracy. When I want to take a solipsistic wander through empty buildings that should have been condemned years ago without suffering lung damage from any asbestos and black mold but the asbestos and black mold in my own living space, I boot up INFRA. I really cannot recommend it enough.

If you like well-executed walking simulators with interesting settings, buy INFRA. If you like urban exploration, buy INFRA. If you like conspiracy thrillers that reward leaving no stone unturned in your pursuit of the truth, buy INFRA. If you like taking pictures of concrete spalling, buy INFRA.

Game is quite interesting puzzle/walking simulator that somehow gone under the radar.
 • Really interesting and engaging story,
 • Detailed and big maps,
 • Environemental puzzles based on existing inftrastructure models,
 • Rewarding exploration,
 • Various secrets and secret paths are hidden on maps,
 • Actions has consequences,
 • Quick loading times,
 • Nearly bug-free. None of those, I've encountered had any impact on gameplay,
 • You can "help" with meltdown of nuclear powerplant.

???? Voice acting is decent but quite emotionless. In critical situation etc. there is no change to emotions conveyed.

 • Lack of in-game journal. Due to various puzzles/riddles it could be invaluable help. It wasn't added due to "whatever" reason,
 • From middle to late game, I've got random CTD while loading to new map,
 • Human characters are incredibly ugly, fortunately they're rare (obvious engine limitation but still...),
 • Game take a lot of time to open again, if you've decided to alt-tab,
 • Geocaches are in-game collectibles. Pity that there isn't anything that helps you to locate them in-game (tags/riddles/descriptions) - you need to use online guides.
 • At least one of the puzzle is a logical spaghetti,
 • One of achievements literally demands from you being bad in a game. You need to replay game from beginning and fail in all given tasks....

Despite all of the negatives I've still had great fun while playing this game. If you're not convinced - buy it on sale.

Beat it in just over 30 hours. I have no idea why this game has stuck with me in my subconscious as much as it has. I find myself thinking about it still a couple weeks after playing it. It was such a strange, but charming game. The plot was really fun to unravel, and the environments were a ton of fun to explore. My biggest complaints are some really parts - like a rafting section where you insta-die if you even bump a bit of exposed gravel, a mechanic where you die if you go in water that's 1.2 meters deep, but 1.1 meters deep is totally fine, stuff like that. I had a bunch of frustrating moments with it, but overall, the fun of exploring the environments, the unraveling of the story by exploring, taking pictures, and the MC's silly voice acting was just a ton of fun.

This is one of the games I think about the most after having finished it.

This game is hard to describe. It's more puzzle dense than a walking sim, but less than most puzzle adventures. You are on a journey of documenting broken infrastructure. You need to solve some puzzles to progress to the next area and uncover more of the story.

The game always leaves me wanting to discover more. I want to see what's around the next corner, find out what happened twenty five years before. The story is good and ambiguous in a way I like. You discover it at your own pace, and the game doesn't drag you along a rail. Big props for Environment and Narrative.

The puzzles are fairly simple compared to most other puzzles games. Most of them are in service of removing obstacles or opening doors, and usually the ones I got stuck on were because I was not observant enough. Solid, but not the focus.

The game has some seemingly off traversal challenges. Sort of platforming. They felt kinda out of place to me, and were my biggest hangups. The game would have been better for me if they had been removed. Maybe they add something important for other people.

My biggest beef is the documentation aspect. You are supposed to take pictures of things that are damaged. The problem comes with what items qualify as damaged. Often I missed which thing counted as damaged because I tried the first 6, but they were not the ones that count, so I stopped. This matters, because there are checks in the late game to see what percentage of the damage you chronicled. I don't have a better solution though, so maybe this had to be what worked for the scope of the project.

Even with those beefs, I still think about this game several years later. I highly recommend this game for anyone who thinks they would be interested in it, and use a guide if you get stuck. It's worth it to see what's next!

This game's atmosphere is excellent. Decaying buildings, gigantic old factories, flooded mines, it's got it all, and it pulls it off really well. The plot is fine, I found it enjoyable but I mainly played this for the exploration and environments and oh boy did this game deliver on that front.

The movement is pretty janky, and a few of the puzzles a bit frustrating in my opinion, but despite that this is definitely one of my favorite games I've played, and also the game with the best urban/industrial environments.

Is INFRA going to be a fun, engaging, and not at all frustrating experience from the start? Certainly not. Would I recommend this to everyone? No. But I will say, that if you like puzzles, environmental storytelling, civil engineering, and just a dash of government corruption, then buy this game. It is superbly good at what it does, although what it does might not be for everyone.

Your enjoyment of INFRA will depend on what you're looking for. Make no mistake, this is a wonderful and unique experience. It's not a walking simulator but many of the puzzles are optional or have fail conditions that don't end the game. This can be liberating; just have fun and engage as much as you want to. It's a bit janky but there's a lot of love and creativity put in. The world is well designed and well paced. You'll weave in and out of rural, industrial, underground and urban locations. You'll feel cramped and oppressed exploring narrow and dilapidated structures, then decompress and feel relief as you emerge into open zones.

However, purely as a puzzle game it's extremely frustrating at times. There are almost no consistent visual cues for how to interact with the world. You can and will miss sections of the maps. You can and will lock yourself out of content by screwing up puzzles. INFRA rewards careful exploration, but never lets you know when you're at a point of no return. As an urban exploration experience it's great. It doesn't hold your hand or ruin the immersion by adding in obnoxious UI elements. A lot of the puzzles could be fixable; the core of the game is engaging. When it works it feels like you solved a real world problem to progress through the world. There's no moon logic item combination puzzles. When it fails all you feel is frustration at the lack of direction.

A nice sightseeing tour in the abandoned industrial and infrastructural facilities riddled with hidden messages, internal secrets and dangerous workplace misconduct... which almost kills you halfway through. Oh, and be sure to check out the B2 flood door tunnel - the best and most exciting part of the tour early on.

P.S. Despite this being a source engine game your PC must not be a total potato to run it smoothly, otherwise you might get seriously low fps and annoying stutters.

Strongly recommend if you love just walking around, taking pictures of things, and solving puzzles.
The environments are main attraction with lots of detail put in to tell little stories exclusive to each area through well placed props or an over-arching story about the fall of the city through notes and newspapers covering 3 decades of history.
I honestly forgot about taking pictures during some points because I was so focused on trying to solve a puzzle or looking in every nook and cranny to find collectables or notes. Other times it's a bit annoying because some spots look like they need a picture taken of them when they don't.
The puzzles were quite varied, some physics based, some involved a few buttons, some others involved lots of buttons over entire facilities. Some quick and some take a lot of thinking and are super satisfying once you finish them.
Overall it's great. if you know you're into this type of game you'll love it, if you're not sure you'll enjoy it like i was, try it anyway and you might find something you'll love :)

This game is absolutely insane.

The story is amazing, the lore is very deep, and surprisingly, the playtime you can get out of this is pretty long.

The aesthetics and atmosphere are what makes this REALLY enjoyable during your first playthrough, The games made in Source just have that certain charme to it, and the feeling of almost always being alone is not only awesome, confidently independent feeling, but also slightly creepy at times.

The game also features an OST, wich is so perfectly crafted. The tense moments in the game are made really tense, and the moments where you enjoy the great view make you really enjoy the great view.

You can also tell by the level design, that this is not the first game made by Loiste. You are always being directed in a right direction by certain environment elements, and there is sooo much to explore, You need to run the game at least four times to find everything, and it still doesnt get old. You are absolutely hooked from the first chapter.

An absolute must-have for anyone looking for a puzzle-challenge, with not many complex gameplay mechanics or intrusive UI, or someone that likes the art of urban exploring. Dont be fooled by the linear paths and singleplayer gameplay, because you will spend a good 12 hours on your first playthrough.

Thats why It's really sad to see that this game hasnt been updated in a while, and the promised DLC is still not out after 6 years of INFRA being out.

Okay, byyyye the game
Please buy the game

I can't recommend this game enough - when I first saw it, I thought it was a HL2 mod, but this is way way better.

It's a game about being an OSHA guy/Structural engineer that goes around cataloguing infractions against building codes, accidents, infrastructure falling apart. But during the course of the journey you'll discover something way bigger. The game is masterful in providing this spooky, desolate feeling which Source engine amplifies with its use of light and soundscapes. Plus this game has much more than that - keep your eyes open for the secrets of the city, as it will just make the whole experience creepier.

INFRA has three tools - flashlight, camera and your wit. That's all you need to get through the challenges. Some of them are your usual Source physics challenges, some require reading the notes and figuring out stuff, and some require situational awareness. It's a puzzle game through and through - and perhaps that's what you need to view this game as. Keen eye and sharp wit is all you need.

Keep an eye out for a sequel!

Infra is one of those idiosyncratic games that leans so hard into its niche that alienating a mass audience is inevitable, and yet will end up being the all-time favorite of a small group of people.

The niche, in this case, is some combination of “people who love the physics puzzles and Eastern European aesthetics of Half-Life 2 and would enjoy the game more if it had no combat” and “people with a genuine interest in all the banal, ignored infrastructure that makes urban life possible.” To wit: whereas most video games open with explosive action or quiet character introductions (followed by explosive action), Infra opens with a powerpoint presentation about the state of decaying infrastructure in a Baltic city. Your character controls the slides.

Most people will find this boring and faintly ridiculous; I loved every minute of it. It’s not just that I appreciate novelty in games, and the verve of spitting in the wind, but that I love interactive spaces where I learn about places and systems I’m unfamiliar with. Over Infra’s many chapters, you’ll explore decaying dams, power plants, water treatment facility, sewers, and other sorts of infrastructure that most of us take for granted, and while Infra is in no way a simulation (it’s very much a Source Engine game, with all the environmental puzzles and slightly wonky physics that entails) it approaches its subject matter with a mix of seriousness and enthusiasm, and really sells that the scenario pictured (in which pretty much all of a city’s infrastructure is sold to private interests and left to decay) can be compelling horror, in its own way.

There’s an attempt to make a sort of Big Conspiracy plot and narrative out of all this, and it’s an entertaining diversion, but it’s not what you’re here for; you’re here for strangely relaxing walks around urban decay, using your phone to take pictures of every issue you find.

I haven't finished the game yet, but so far it has been a fun experience. I went into it thinking of it as a time-waster worth a few hours, but ended up getting drawn into the story running in the background.
The story opened up slowly, but when it did I was hooked. Also, being Finnish, I love the various pop culture references. :D

It's an urban exploration sim that evolves into a dark narrative driven first person mystery. it's hard to explain the appeal and if you're not going to commit to the whole experience you probably shouldn't start.

I am totally hooked on the exploration and environmental storytelling. If I had anything to complain about with regard to this game, it's that there is just too much of it. It does get a bit lengthy, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Eurojank in the best possible way, Infra has some truly unique ideas. Its puzzles are all set in the context of the real world - repairing switch boxes, setting up a water treatment plant, and other engineering problems are seamlessly integrated into the levels. A pretty interesting backstory of corporate corruption and greed underlies these puzzles, though it's perhaps a bit overwritten near its end. It also commits the dire sin of being about 2 hours too long.

Still, I haven't played anything like this before and probably won't get to again. Despite my minor complaints, you can tell the developers really gave a shit about putting something new into the world. Glad the Euros still have their magic Source engine touch.

Oddly satisfying game. It's just a walking simulator technically, but you constantly feel out of place and I love it. I picked it up during the sale and it's definitely worth it!

The graphics are alright, it's a source game but it's got a cool aesthetic.
Gameplay: It's a walking sim, but you have to identify problems with the infrastructure as well as solve cleverly made (realistic) puzzles.
Atmosphere: 10/10
Story: There's some strange subplots you can find clues about while you're exploring, which is the kind of thing I love.

one of the most immersive and best examples of environmental storytelling. what the devs managed to pull off in the source engine looks amazing for a game engine that old while also having the framerate stay stable (90% of the time). great exploration puzzle game that's paired with a slow-burn story, get it if youve ever wanted to walk through abandoned places or if youre looking for a new puzzle game.

TL;DR: If you like Pokemon Snap, you'll love INFRA. For more information, see the screenshots attached at bottom.

Long version: INFRA is my new favorite game of all time.

THE BAD

INFRA isn't a typical puzzle game. You very distinctly get the sense you're being railroaded, and the puzzles themselves don't have much depth to them. It's basically a series of fetch quests, and you occasionally follow some handily laid-out diagrams. The game is basically Pokemon Snap: wave your camera around until the focus indicator shrinks and click. Other reviews, both here and online, can tell you more about the gameplay. Most likely, you'll consult a walkthrough at least once or twice even during your first playthrough. If this doesn't seem appealing to you, then you will not enjoy this game.

THE GOOD

But for all of that, I still love it. Even with its railroading, even with its decidedly uninspiring core gameplay loop, even after I spent an angry, hate-filled hour searching FOR ONE FUCKING VALVE AT THE TREATMENT PLANT it has dethroned New Vegas as my favorite game of all time.

Because here's the thing: I don't care about typical gameplay considerations because INFRA isn't a typical game. It's not a game you play, it's a game you experience. It's a lot like a mountain hike: despite your burning thighs and aching chest, every so often, you stop and marvel at your beautiful surroundings, and just for a moment, it's all so worth it. INFRA is full of those moments. Unlike in so many games, its setting is not just a generic wallpaper splashed over a bog-standard map with no thought to making it feel real.

Stalburg is alive in a way that is so much more compelling than any AAA title I've played, probably ever. This game is probably the most beautiful ever built on the original Source engine.
For me, experiencing INFRA for the first time, even as an adult, was like experiencing The Legend of Zelda for the first time as a little kid with a GBA decades ago. It evokes the same feelings of amazement, wonder, and otherworldliness. I really, genuinely, gasped when I saw what happened to that train, and my stomach flipped when I learned what happened to its inhabitants. For any game to break through that adult cynicism and take me back to those halcyon days is a priceless experience.

I said before that this game is basically Pokemon Snap, and it's good that it is. Taking pictures forces you to look around and take in all of the beautiful scenery that Loiste Interactive has built, and it is while you are doing that that you think that this game is worth the price of admission.

If you are the kind of person that stops frequently on hikes to enjoy the scenery around you regardless of timing, then you will love this game. If you are the kind of person that walks 15,000 blocks out in a Minecraft world just to see what's there, then you will love this game. If you are the kind of person that places supreme value on a game's ability to take you to a new, special place, then you will love this game. I know I sure did.

Story rich, challenging and very cleverly made puzzles, wonderful exploration, beautiful environments, the list goes on... It's truly a gem of a game and it's saddening that not more know of it.

I think partly the reason for this though is the difficulty and pace of the game. It's definitely not for everyone, but I still do wish everyone could still have the experience of it. Excited for going back to play again and get another ending as well as find a lot of secrets and optional actions!

Don't be intimidated by the technical-sounding description. Infra is an excellent game for fans of the 3D adventure game genre, with a much more realistic and grounded feel than most. You explore, document, and repair crumbling industrial infrastructure, all while uncovering a sinister conspiracy. It's also fairly lengthy, so you're definitely getting your money's worth.

While I appreciate what the game is trying to achieve, it fails to communicate its objectives in a fair manner. Some of the puzzles seem to have completely arbitrary logic, requiring going through permutations by brute force, sometimes with backtracking.

In addition to that, there are other annoyances such as the unnecessary trope-inclusion of batteries for camera and flashlight, clumsy first person jumping puzzles (without having an actual player view model), and objective items clipping through geometry when being carried and disappearing entirely.

I see that a lot of people like this game, and that's great. Makes me very happy to see that. However, I really struggled to enjoy it for a couple of reasons. Firstly, Infra is a very complex game that doesn't give you much in the way of guidance. Normally I'd be okay with that, but certain sections were almost headache-inducing in their design. Secondly, some of the puzzles don't give any indicators on what exactly it is you're supposed to solve, which is made even more difficult by the almost labyrinthian layouts of the maps.

It got to the point where I was relying on a Steam guide to help me progress, something that I didn't want to spend my entire playthrough relying on. I lost my patience, and stopped playing. It's a slow-paced experience that didn't have much of a present narrative that was enough to keep me engaged.

However, those who are looking for a complex puzzle game that doesn't offer much in the way of help, this could be right up your alley. The environments are gorgeous to look at, with plenty of opportunities to take some nice screenshots, and in the time that I spent, I didn't encounter any bugs.

Maybe, I'm dumb, I don't know. All I know is that Infra just isn't for me. If you're willing to be confused a lot, and have the patience to persevere, you'll be fine with this. If not, I'd find something else.

A SURPRISINGLY LONG GAME! With a lot of PUZZLES! The environment and atmosphere is very cool, but it can be a little brain overwhelming for a simpleton like me. I had heard this game was a little spooky but it's barely that at all. It's mainly about journeying around your city and repairing the various facilities you come across. MOST of what you can do in this game seems like it could be optional, but there's a huge backstory there if you go out of your way.

Overall a nice comfy experience, would recommend. So I will.

Quite a solid puzzle game/walking simulator, very eerie at times and quite lengthy so its pretty good. Visually it looks quite nice and there's quite a lot to do in the game, if you're a completionist you'll really like the game since there's so many achievements and collectables. There's also lots of lore so if you're into piecing all the story together you're in luck. There's one or two puzzles that were a bit too obscure but other than that there's nothing too crazy. The voice acting is pretty terrible though, probably the worst part of the game really but its not unbearable. The game runs pretty well but it is an old engine so its to be expected. Didn't have any crashes or any serious bugs so thats good.

Overall though quite fun, worth checking out. 8/10

Remember the water-boat and coastal highway levels of Half-Life 2. Taking in the sights. Finding abandoned, dilapidated hideouts. Solving puzzles to progress. Finding secrets. Enjoying a sense of journey to your destination.

This game 20+hrs of that, with no guns. Instead you'll be reading documents and taking photo's of any evidence of corruption, hazards, and structural integrity. Most of the time it's an extremely chill experience, but feels like an adventure game rather than simply moving a story forward like a walking sim.

Really surprised how long the game was, and more surprised I enjoyed it to completion.

Wow... what a game! I bought this, on sale, a few years ago and then a friend said it was boring and depressing so I never played it. Boy, was he wrong!

Infra is a first person multi-faceted 3D game. The environment is VAST with an incredible level of detail in all locations. Turbines, offices, tunnels, factories, water treatment plants, dams, mines... the list goes on. You play as Mark, a structural engineer working for National Consulting Group. Based on problems with infrastructure in and around the European city of Stalburg, you are tasked with inspecting and documenting the status of facilities and projects. Along the way, you repair equipment, uncover evidence of neglect and corruption, and wind your way through location after location. You walk, crawl, jump, ride mini-trains, take elevators, and navigate with a boat. You are equipped with a flashlight and a camera (both of which use batteries at an alarming rate). Collectibles include taking photos, finding documents, locating geocaches, and making repairs. There are also quite a few keys, key cards, and entry combinations to be located before you can advance.

I enjoyed the voice overs (which are not terribly professional but fit the characters) and the sound track. Machines whir, tunnels collapse, steam hisses, and doors crash closed. It is a very immersive game and has quite a few 'wow' moments as a scene unfolds before you. Most of all, I appreciated the save system (quick save, auto save, and 4 explicit save slots). There are a number of timed escape and/or repair tasks and the quick save was my salvation. It let me save part way through and not have to start over when I failed or time ran out. Despite the auto save feature, I saved my game constantly (especially after difficult tasks).

Achievement hunters should know that 100% requires a minimum of two times through Infra - one run getting almost all collectibles/achievements and one run ignoring most of them. While some achievements are automatic as you progress, others require finding secret areas or performing tasks that have consequences in later chapters. How one could accomplish some of them without a guide is beyond me. The geocaches, in particular, are hard to locate even when you know where to search!

There are two ways to approach this game: (1) Dive in with total disregard for achievements and muddle through, or (2) Use a guide as a road map to ensure that you experience all areas of the game and find all collectibles. Either approach requires you to open every door and look in every corner. For the observant gamer, there are a plethora of batteries distributed across all areas, fun (and weird) things to see, and alternate paths to check out. However, the incurious gamer will soon find themselves in the dark with a dead camera!

I fell in love with this game. I chose to use a guide for my first pass through because I became overwhelmed by the environments and the machinery. It took almost 70 hours to get all but two achievements and experience the 'good' ending. Now, I am free to go back through, not thinking about collectibles. I can spend additional time exploring the narrative told by the documents (notes, audio tapes, video tapes). I can proceed through a mysterious door (that I skipped) and see what's on the other side. It is a rare game to hold my attention for so long and have me wanting more after this many hours.

I highly recommend jumping into Infra (with or without a guide). I think it will appeal to those who enjoyed titles like Aporia, Valley, or Lethe... games with lots to do and see, while fixing things along the way. Games that let you freely explore and experience the delight of discovery while learning a backstory through bits and pieces. However, Infra is not for those in a hurry... it is a VERY long game.

Post Script - I finally reached 100% and experienced all 3 endings. Infra has a delightful way of handling the different outcomes, with circumstances reflecting actions/decisions made during the game. I think this is one of the best set of endings I've seen since Eastshade.

This game is very frustrating. I finished it basically just because I loved the industrial and urban Source engine aesthetics of the maps, but the maps themselves tend to be labyrinthine and confusing (especially in the second half of the game) with unintuitive objectives (which are rarely explained explicitly) and lots of hunting for tiny props hidden away in the map, sometimes on a timer. The larger stages also tend to have a sort of secret optional objective which involves getting the facility you're making your way through working again, but the complexity of these objectives made it difficult for me to tell what's mandatory and what isn't, and I ended up using walkthroughs a bunch of times just to figure out how to leave a level.

If you're more perceptive and have better spatial awareness than me, you might enjoy the actual gameplay of INFRA. I liked looking at the maps far more than navigating them or solving the often obtuse puzzles, and the battery mechanics made no sense to me. They just discouraged exploration by making me afraid of wasting batteries, so I just spent a bunch of time walking around in near pitch darkness, which probably didn't help with the struggling to find my way around part. You get an infinite torch for the last few levels, and I don't see how the game would have been worse off just giving you that from the start.

Overall it's a good game.

Great atmosphere and lovely detailed level design with some fantastic lighting later on in the game.

Quite a long game with a fairly interesting story that you pickup as you go along.

Often frustrating puzzle design that relies on you having found very small objects to continue, like a set of keys for instance, that are not well highlighted or that can sometimes be placed in unintuitive locations.

Some timed puzzles that rely on trial and error and maximum efficiency to get through once you know the solution.

The game takes place over the course of the working day of a structural analyst who is sent out to survey several sites around the fictional post Soviet Eastern European city of Stalburg. During the game you will be exploring deserted environments, taking photos of structural damage and story clues and also solving puzzles to try and get things working again. The game world is really well realised and it's the superb atmosphere and level of detail in the levels that makes this worth playing. It's that which will have you coming back to it and make you want to complete it, to see where the game takes you next. As the day goes on and the sun starts to set in the later levels, the lighting is really stunning at times.

The environments all look like places that could exist and look functional for the job that they are supposed to be doing, which really helps give you a sense of place, that you are wandering around some deserted factory or office block and it also helps with trying to figure out the puzzles. There is actually quite a lot of variety to the environments too as you make your way through a series of industrial sites. Some of them just look stunning and I don't think I've ever seen a Source engine game look this good before. I was never less than impressed with the sheer amount of detail and effort that had obviously gone into each environment. The environments are definitely the best hing about this game. Which is good, because exploration is the focus of the game first and foremost. With that being said, there are occasions where it can feel a bit like you're wandering down yet another pipe lined concrete corridor or tunnel for the umpteenth time.

So exploring the lovely detailed environments is great, but to progress through them you'll need to do a bit of puzzle solving, and this is where the game will often start to feel like a bit of a slog and lead to frustration. Most of the puzzles are OK and a few are even quite good. The puzzles usually involve getting bits of machinery working, so there's a lot of pressing buttons, turning valves and pulling levers in the correct sequence type of thing. Quite a few of them also require missing items to be found like fuses, which in turn may require key cards and sets of keys to be found to open doors and access rooms and areas. The problem is that the highlighting of these items is quite bad. Items will only highlight when you are in close proximity and looking more or less directly at them. So to spot a tiny set of keys laying on a desk, or hanging on a wall, you'll need to be stood by the desk and looking more or less right down at them. The levels are big and there's a lot of chairs and tables and clutter, making it really easy to miss stuff like this. Even if you're on your 3rd search round an area desperately looking for whatever item it is that that you've obviously missed, which you need to progress to the next area, you can still easily pass by it over and over again. The placing of some of these items can be less than intuitive as well. One egregious example being a key card which was placed under a toilet seat lid, and there are worse examples. So you will need to open every draw and flip every toilet seat lid and explore and scrutinise every nook and cranny as you make your way through the game.

To be honest, using a guide to get through this game is pretty much essential. Fortunately there is a very good and detailed one here on Steam you can alt tab between. For example the first use I had to make of it was to find a missing fuse that I needed for a puzzle. It turned out the fuse was located up on a shelf in a box. Now you might think that sounds like a logical place for it to be, but unlike in say Half Life 2, you can not move the boxes, they are static props in this game and at no point previous to this do you have any interaction with them. So given how the game has worked so far up to that point, you wouldn't assume that a needed item would be hidden in one, and yet it was. Stand next to the shelf, look up at the box and you'd then see the glowing outline of the needed fuse through the side of box. You still can't move the box, so you have to lift the fuse up and out of it. There are other examples like this, including one that involves a timed puzzle that utilises item physics, that up until that point you've just not had to do and are not expecting to do anything like it and nor is it remotely obvious you need to either.

For the most part though the puzzles stick to a formula of finding valve wheels, fuses, keys, and throwing buttons and levers. Sometimes there are clues to help you, others are more intuitive and some just require trial and error and bit of guess work, and almost certainly you will need to consult a guide at some point. So they can become a real sticking point in the game and make it become quite a slog, as you run around the large areas trying to find missing items and go back and forth pushing buttons to see what happens.

A side element of the game requires you to photograph areas of damage around the sites you visit as part of your job. It is not essential to do this but it can alter the ending and obviously there are achievements for it if you're into that sort of thing. It works by you pulling out your camera and when the white box reticle in the view finder zooms in as you point it at some suspected damage, you take a picture. The camera needs a supply of batteries but they are easily found throughout the game and they only run down when you take photos, not from just from having the camera out. There is also a torch that you carry that also needs batteries. A different type from the camera ones of course, which again can be easily found throughout the levels, all usually in places you'd expect to find them, like in desk draws for instance or shelves in cupboards etc. The torch batteries do run down quite quickly as you have it out, but as with the camera batteries, there's always plenty of them about, and after a while it seemed like I never had less than a full supply of camera and torch batteries. Even when the torch battery runs right down it will still supply a dim amount of illumination, ensuring that you are never left in total darkness. Personally I would have preferred it if the torch batteries had lasted about 3 or 4 times longer but there were fewer of them about to pickup, rather than an abundance of batteries but needing to reload the torch every minute.

Tonally, the game can be quite eerie and at times down right creepy, but it can also be quite peaceful and amusing too. The story starts off with seeds of corruption being uncovered that later on takes quite a dark turn, but I wouldn't say that it ever really verges into the territory of horror. The story is another one of these that you pickup from reading documents and notes with some environmental story telling. It was quite entertaining and lent and extra sense of place to the proceedings. It's well worth sticking with through to the second half of the game as I felt that it really picked up then.

So, overall I quite enjoyed my time with this game, even if towards the end it did start to feel like a bit of a slog and overly long. So yes, it is a long game and it took me just over 26 hours and that was rushing through it a bit towards the end whilst using a guide too. So even at full price you will get your money's worth with this one.

Simply amazing.

Judging from the trailers i expected this to be a horror game, but was pleasantly surprised by its immersive atmosphere.
The voice acting and animations are goofy here and there but the intense and lengthy story surely make up for it.

What started out as a random assignment to check for wornout concrete surely turned around completely when dodgy documents were found early in the game.
Structural damage was simply a tip of the iceberg...

What's also well done is the sound design.
Most of it is ambient sounds without unnecessarily music, which only plays when it actually makes sense.

This game was on my wishlist for a while, and when i bought it, it caught me off guard.
I tend to look for games with an atmosphere, and this was exactly the kind of game ive been looking for for a very long time.

The first playtrough of this game took me 40 hours..

I was sceptical and was blown away.

Do you remember the parts of Half Life 1 & 2 that existed between the combat set pieces? The scenes where you explored a space, figured out how to navigate a challenging environment, and discovered characters and stories through interesting environmental storytelling?

The entirety of INFRA is built of these spaces and challenges.

I spent the first several hours braced for a twist that would introduce some supernatural turn and drop an assault rifle into my hands; which, thankfully, has still not come (at the time of this writing I believe I am around the 2/3 mark).

The game does not give much in the way of guidance and can be a bit overwhelming but I really appreciate the cleverness, detail, and intricacy of the game.

there's a lot of bad things about this game, but all I want to talk about is the incredible level detail, uniqueness and atmosphere. every level is very detailed, and different from the one before, with tons of hidden details and easter eggs, as well as some genuinely spooky/unsettling moments. this game is also way longer than you think, especially if you like exploring and side objectives. there are some sections of the game that are annoying/repetitive, and the gameplay is pretty simple, but seriously, it's been a while since a game has had me this hooked. if the most important thing in a game to you is atmosphere/environment, or if you like exploring abandoned places, this game is for you.

What a game. One of a kind adventure. If you like urban exploration and/or walking simulators then this game is for you. Beautiful graphics, cool main character and excellent story and side stories. I don't think I will ever get to play a game like this again. I'm waiting for that DLC though!

The game is really bad at explaining its puzzles and distinguishing elements you can interact with from those that you can't. Furthermore, since it doesn't lock you to in the limited area until you solve a puzzle, you might end up being stuck for dozens of minutes running in circles finding an object you've missed before you are able to progress. Sorry, but no recommendation with that one.

I think the game overall is great but I didn't enjoy it, I thought the atmosphere was rich and generally amazing but I felt tense throughout the game because of the loneliness and being afraid of being jump scared by Morko. They should tag the product as a horror game because that's what it feels like at times with the deep story that's involved in the game.

I personally only played around 2 hours and refunded it. Its just not my type of game but I highly recommend it if you are into a lonely exploration, puzzle, industrial, and psychological horror game.

Here is my review of Infra AKA Level Design: The Official Game of the Movie

If you love to explore meticulously recreated virtual renditions of civil infrastructure, industrial facilities, and other man-made utilitarian spaces, with a few caves thrown in for good measure, then BOY have I got the game for you. You are a Finnish Structural Analyst tasked with investigating the deteriorating facilities at a hydroelectric dam in a fictional Scandinavian city called Stalburg. Things spiral into the dark from there. Those facilities, they sure are deteriorating something fierce! Time to photograph all the broken parts while solving puzzles, fixing utility systems, and trying not to drown, fall, get crushed, electrocuted, burned, poisoned, or blown up! And what is this? A far reaching industrial conspiracy? Just how run down IS this city, and how'd it get this bad? And what's going on with this Open Sewer place I keep hearing about? And what's with all these beers and mushrooms? Well.... at least I Have Five Batteries for the Flashlight Now...

Let me tell you, this game GOES places. Like the deterioration of Stalburg's civic infrastructure, it is far larger and more extensively detailed than it seems at first glance, but for the most part it uses that time very well. It is jam-packed with secrets and weird level-design jokes, and weird one-off bespoke systems. There is some truly wild deep lore that rivals dark souls in its hiddenness and depth of its story implications. No really. It has some charmingly rough voice acting and some really spectacular atmosphere. The level design creates this eerie feeling of isolation and lostness and I-shouldn't-be-here-ness that makes you believe that at any time, it could turn into a horror game. And well, it kind of is a horror game, but the monster is government corruption, neglect, and neoliberal austerity measures.

You WILL learn how a civic water filtration facility works and you WILL have a great time doing it.

Infra is a very special game that was clearly made with a ton of love, and if any of the above sounds good to you, you owe it to yourself to play it.

This is not some walking simulator you play to unwind or lose yourself in an emotional narrative. With eerie abandoned places, kinda complex puzzles and a constant feel of missing out on collectables, it was more stressful than I thought it would be. At least that was my experience with the game, so much so that I decided to reset and do a guided play through at around five hours into my first one. It's also very, very long. So, if you're a Source engine enthusiast; if you like gorgeous and realistic environments in video games; if industrial architecture seems interesting to you; if you enjoy a good civil corruption conspiracy story; you're going to love it. With the price tag it has, it's a guaranteed well made purchase in terms of enjoyment & time spent.

INFRA is easily one of my favorite singleplayer games of all time. On the surface it may seem like your average walking simulator, but there's so much more to it. Every place you explore has a history and its own story to tell and the deeper you look, the more intriguing things you'll find. After more than 200 hours of playing this game I still feel it has more secrets in store, more connections to make and things to find.

I've played the story from start to finish over and over again, and on each playthrough I keep discovering new details, hidden areas and secrets, making new connections between the events occurring and the documents scattered throughout. The atmosphere of this game is excellent, you can actually FEEL the sense of relief as you surface from the vast underground tunnels and caves into a beauitiful and calm scene by the ocean. It's almost as if you can feel the fresh evening air hitting your face.

The story is amazing. If you rush through and don't pay much attention to the things you see around you and read into the documents that are scattered around, then the story will be completely different compared to if you are being really thorough, exploring every nook and cranny of the areas and reading all the documents.

Starting the game, it's not entirely clear what you're supposed to do in regards to taking pictures, but again this is something you get a hold of quick and becomes second nature throughout the story. For me it reached a point where if I'd play other games I'd feel an urge to take out a camera and take pictures if I saw something broken.

The voice acting in the game isn't exactly 100%, and the voice of the protagonist/player can be off-putting at first, but you get used to it fast and it actually ends up seeming pretty natural. It works to sell the idea that the story doesn't take place in your average big city. From what I've gathered, Stalburg and its surrounding areas is somewhere in Finland or another Nordic country, thus explaining the accents.

The achievements in this game can also be challenging, and also add a ton of replayability. I played through the game at least 6-7 times just for the achievements alone, and not even once has it felt like a chore or a waste of time.

If you're into urban exploration, technical puzzles and government conspiracies, this is definitely the game for you.

10/10 - Would open door B2 again

This quickly became one of my favorite games. Although at times it felt like a love/hate relationship, in the end no challenge was insurmountable, and aside from the relatively small amount of time I spent frustrated and/or annoyed, I found myself completely enthralled in the game. Usually I'd only notice that I'd been playing too long and stop after starting to feel a little nauseous due to motion sickness from staring at the moving screen for however many hours.

I didn't really know what I was doing for the first few levels, so I missed a lot. If you're concerned about achievements and not missing anything I'd suggest taking your time (and a lot of pictures), since you're often able to proceed without having discovered or accomplished everything possible. I may even replay it at some point since both the endings I experienced made it clear that I could've done more...

With the premise, I was expecting this to be a relatively shortish game, maybe 5-10 hours, which I'd find fun.. I like exploring stuff and finding things generally in games

I was very wrong on the time, I ended up with about 35 hours of gameplay in the end, the scope of the game was so much bigger and better than I expected. I had a great time just exploring all the lovely crafted levels and searching for little secrets and such

If that's the kind of thing you enjoy, you will not regret getting this game, it's lovely

Infra is my favorite story based single player game, the constant feeling of being alone is one I've never felt in any other game. After going through the first couple of areas, I thought I was secretly playing a horror game disguised as an exploration puzzle game. After playing about half way, I realized that the game was just so good at making you feel alone that I just felt like something was always going to jump out at me, but it's just so good at keeping you on edge to be ready for nothing. Other than the gameplay, the story aspect is pretty good, uncovering the crumbling infrastructure of the city leads to the exposure of a corrupt company and CEO looking to monopolize the industry to make a profit. Overall I can firmly say that Infra firmly delivers in the single player department with an ok story aspect but overall 9/10

INFRA is an extremely solid first person adventure game, whose rough edges are easily compensated for by a very forgiving (auto)save system. Due to your character's profession, classic decorative and level design elements like exposed rebar and collapsed catwalks are transformed into constant objectives you must look out for and document. All locations are fresh and well detailed despite what you might expect from a heavily industrial setting of municipal utilities.

My only real complaint is some lacking in player direction and optional locations late in the game which you must unlock early on, despite little to no hints to do so, making them easy to miss. (Tip:
Withdraw $1,000.
)

Despite that, I highly recommend INFRA to anyone interested in the story's basis (infrastructure analyst simulator) and people who want a first person adventure game you can spend a lot of time in.

We need more games like these! INFRA is about puzzles and exploring spiced with a gripping story line. Playing as middle aged veteran handyman you go through so many interesting and variable places that should exceed the expectations of even the most high standard player. The game really takes dozens of hours to beat and completionists can drown the game for small eternity for there is a lot of interesting eastern eggs lurking on every corner.

INFRA takes everything possible out of Source Engine and while the game can feel slightly outdated it is the wide ration of different environments that boost the game to its beauty. Going through nature, abandoned industry buildings, empty office buildings and even through the darkest corners of underground tunnels I could just admire that how the devs have had passion to make this all come alive.

The game really is something genuinely unique and if you have ever had smallest dream to go exploring abandoned infrastructure in real life then this is a goldmine. If I ever found something bothering in INFRA it was the lack of side characters which could have buffed the story a bit, but yet again it is about infra and not the people!

Nothing lasts ever and everything breaks down..

An urban exploration/puzzle game. I love the idea of a game centered around exploring abandoned structures and solving mysteries. The atmosphere is top notch and there were times when it legit scared me. Only problems I had: The final chapters drag on for a long time, and a lot of the puzzles confused me in a very not fun way.

This is going to seem strange and although i enjoyed this game somewhat, this was not made for someone like me. I had to use a guide to help myself because I'd get lost so much due to having to wrestle between treating it realistically and treating like a game which was hard to shake. I appreciate the level of detail the developers went toward, especially with the factories and buildings. The length was unexpected for sure and appreciated due to the insane levels of detail presented, even if none of that was provided for the few humans you encounter. Its a great game but if you're someone working in a blue collar job, this would be amazing for you.

Infra is an exploration style game that pulls no punches. It will stick you into the game with only a hint of what you're supposed to do and has no HUD, Waypoints, or hand holding involved. It is truly an overlooked game due to the age & graphics but it is certainly a MUST PLAY for those who enjoyed games like Myst. The best way to describe this game is Urban Exploration Simulator but it's your job but also you shouldn't be putting yourself in danger THAT much at work.

There's a solid tension in this game that feels almost spot on to how Myst & Riven felt when you're essentially alone for the most part of your journey but cannot shake the feeling someone is watching you. Even with the extremely dated source graphics, I found myself being pulled into this game more than any game I can recall in 2020. Just starting the game pulled me in for 8 hours straight and I didn't even realize it because the game flows perfectly. The pacing is near perfection.

The game is surprisingly deep and fleshed out even though it does not look the part. The amount of time the developer had to put into this game is unfortunately missed by the majority of gamers. You can tell they put in a sizable amount of time into the small details, puzzles & general feel of each level. Though it appears the developer has fallen back, I sincerely hope to see more releases from them in a more updated engine because the way they weave the atmosphere in an engine as old as this makes me giddy just thinking of what they could do with Cry or Source 2.

As someone who is an avid Urban Explorer & photographer of places I shouldn’t be, I cannot recommend this game strongly enough for those wanting to feel the same experiences of being so far into a place you know nothing about, curiosity pushing you through each door. If you’re the type who can overlook a game with dated graphics and want a solid adventure title with a great plot that will last for more than 2 hours, DO. NOT. SKIP. THIS.

Listen, I know it's been almost five years since Infra released into Early Access, but I only played it just now, and let me tell you, it is my personal Game of the Year, coming way ahead of all those fancy AAA titles.

Infra has been in my sights for a long while, so perhaps it was the premise of playing as a structural analyst surveying infrastructure condition that was putting me off. It sounded all too weird to really work. Oh boy, how wrong I was to hesitate that long.

The best way to describe Infra is, perhaps, to acknowledge how masterfully it walks the fine line between a full-on first-person puzzler and a more narrative-focused adventure of gradual exploration and discovery. Most puzzles are optional and can be skipped. At the same time, players who prefer puzzle-solving to narrative experience are free to have it their way. But be aware that you will be missing on some interesting content if you chose to ignore one side of the game in favour of the other. And there is a lot to discover and experience in both exploration and in solving puzzles. Infra doesn't hold your hand and does not exactly explain its rules, so the hardest of puzzles can take a couple of hours for you to figure out and solve. Same for adventure part of the game, there's quite a lot of narrative content out there for you to discover both through various documents and audio logs, as well as through absolutely masterfully done environmental storytelling. And it's all serious stuff too, with the corruption of various official figures and damages that it caused to the environment, the city and its residents being the theme of the game.

And then, of course, the looks. I don't know if its the Source engine with its knack for realistically looking maps, or familiarity that anyone who lives in or ever visited the Baltic states gets to experience, but Infra is absolutely gorgeous.

Now let me finish with this. I don't exactly like long games. Anything longer than, maybe, a dozen of hours and I begin to lose interest. But I spent four times that with Infra and I didn't want it to end. It was beautiful, engrossing experience.

So dear developers, let me tell you this, take your time with that Whiprock DLC and be sure that it will be a day one purchase for me.

INFRA grows on you. You may find yourself frustrated with the puzzles and slow pace of the game in the first act, but don't let this deter you from seeing what the heart of this game is about. At the core of INFRA is a game that is realistic and does not baby the player in the slightest. You must logic your way through every puzzle through trial and error or using clues in the environment. Exploration is highly rewarded. It's very clear how much time and though went into designing the game, which will take somewhere around 20 hours to complete at minimum. Thoroughly designed factories, plants, and machinery will block your way at every turn, forcing you to repair and fix your way through the game.

This game won't be for everyone because its pacing is slow and the puzzles often confusing, but the scope of the visuals and the detail in designing the levels won me over in the end. And if you choose to unravel the mystery storyline as well, it will even further enhance the game and add new layers to the story. I give it a 7/10. The ending chapter legitimately made me anxious and immersed me in the race against the clock.

Slower paced game overall. Really enjoyed it and figuring out the infrastructure puzzles like how to get the power plant online or how to get the water routed correctly so it would be cleaned. And the documents and story were enjoyable as well. The core gameplay idea is novel, and you will have a hard time getting everything in a single playthrough without being crazy thorough. I did one playthrough to see how much I could find and do, then did one playthrough with a walkthrough to get everything. Somehow still missed a single photo spot in the first act. Killed me when I finished the game with everything but that was missing. I may run it through again but not for a long while. Really great game overall though. If you can excuse a few overall insignificant things like ok voice acting and ok character models that don't really move around (you hardly see anyone so it's really not a big deal) then everything else about it is great in my opinion. Highly recommended so long as you are patient and love exploring for secrets with a smattering of puzzles.

As someone who enjoys exploring real abandoned buildings I love this game. This is the kind of game that I'm sad to be getting close to the end because it is so fun to explore. This game has one of the best atmospheres, the lighting and ambient noise is very immersive even though the graphics aren't spectacular. The puzzles are challenging, and even though you spend a lot of time in access tunnels the environment changes frequently. I liked the changing pace of like meandering through these empty spaces looking for clues and slowly learning the story to the race against time to avoid impending sudden death, and remembering to take pictures of everything at the same time. This is a game I might come back and play through again because I'm sure there are many things I missed.

+Lovingly crafted lore. They even created their own virtualmap online of the fictional city Stalburg https://map.stalburg.net/
+locations feel lived in and breathing
+breathtaking atmosphere. The sound/ambient-design is off the charts!
+Creative gameplay-mechanics ranging from mini-trains (<3) to huge water-reactors with each detail interactable.

-Not a huge fan of the voice-over. I'd rather they went full finnish instead (Helsinki is apparently the inspiration for Stalburg)
-Either this dude has the worst, chinese-made flashlight and camera, or the battery-life is just designed to be annoying.
-Only 4 saveslots (+2 autosave, 1 Quicksave). In a game where you can miss a lot of achievements or fail at repairing something, I'd have loved more saveslots.
-Not a fan of the menu that doesn't pause the game. Basically your character gets his phone out (which funnily always has 76% charge, totally contradicting the short battery-life of the chinese-made crap like his flashlight and camera) and it's supposed to be a menu. Sure, time slows down, but I'd prefer a full pause.

You'll probably either love this game or hate it. Armed with just a camera and a flashlight, you're sent out into the dangerous industrial depths of the city of Stalburg, tasked with photographing the damage and, occasionally, avoiding death.

The good parts: the locations are (mostly) well designed and immersive, giving you the feeling of really being in a power plant, a sewer or wherever else our intrepid surveyor has to go. The game gives you a sense of excitement about your next location, and the mechanic of taking photographs - along with the puzzles you solve to progress - encourage exploration. There's something that passes for a plot, exposed via documents and occasional recordings, but you really don't need to pay it much attention if you don't want to.

The frustrating parts: some of the puzzles will leave you scratching your head, with few cues in the environment about what it is you're supposed to do. The fifteenth time you have to go searching for a wheel to attach to a valve, the novelty will have worn off a bit. Some of the environments do get a bit repetitive towards the end: one tunnel looks much like another, and there's a period when I've been underground in dark, wet environments so long I'm craving some variety.

Overall though it's a solid game and worth picking up (especially on sale) - just keep a guide to hand for the really tricky parts!

Just finished the game as I write this.

Really like this game!

SPOILER FREE REVIEW:

INFRA is an adventure and exploration puzzle type game. It's classed as a walking-sim which it is in that there's a lot of walking and exploring involved.

Essentially you collect items, explore, take pictures and investigate every map you enter in the effort to progress the game. The game is absolutely massive for a game in the walking-sim genre, and features more maps than I can count. As you can see I almost spent 50 hours on my first playthrough. The maps are designed really well, with all of the key elements there, encouraging you to explore, observe and make a strategy on how to progress. There is also a lot of story elements laying around which you have to find by yourself as you can miss a lot of these completely. The game seems to diverge it's path when it comes to story and has multiple stories and events happening that you can investigate if you like, that are actually completely separate from the goal of the game, which makes it really interesting and fun. The game has so much content it's just impossible to find/see it all without a guide, which is a huge plus as it gives you a great incentive to replay the game to discover everything you didn't see the first time around.

The game features a lot of puzzles, most of the time they are easy if you explore and observe your surroundings. Nothing is really madly vague where there is some bizzare answer to the puzzle you can only find out if you are a master at puzzle games. And that again makes the game fun because you get a sense of satisfaction being able to figure stuff out on your own instead of having to constantly rely on guides or walkthroughs because the game is overly vague.

The game is in first person but it offers options to people who can't stand headbob or motionblur which is a huge plus. There are some parts of the game that is genuinely annoying due to the controls, I suppose, such as some openings with ladders are difficult to enter probably due to the size of the hole. And I died countless times to ladders in general, somehow getting on or off ladders proved to be a bit clunky. Jumping or climbing objects is also sometimes a bit annoying, like getting on something mostly requires the animation to play. I also found myself wishing I could see the character's legs/body to better judge positioning in some cases. The later maps in the later chapters also where in general more annoying, much more locked doors that you just can't open than before. I don't know why, I'm just one of those people who want to open every single door/enter every single room even if there's nothing there. However although these are annoying they didn't take away from the overall experience.

So overall I really recommend this game, there's so much content that it's definitely worth the money.

The puzzles can get aggravating at times though, and the rather clumsy control and jumping and wonky hitboxes and vague routes that you're forced to take can really make me quit the game for a while. at the current rate it's going to take a while for me to finish because of often having to google walkthroughs for parts that give little hint at how they're supposed to be resolved, and endlessly dying just because you misstepped can be a huge pain.... But it is a very pretty and calm puzzle game with a vibe I much love, so I can definitely recommend it for those who are better at dealing with those kinda issues than me, because there's definitely a lot to love about the game as well.

There's nothing quite like this today. No guns, no fancy this or that monsters, no alien or zombie invasion.
I'd have to say that if you enjoyed the old Sierra or Lucas Arts point-and-click variety of games 20~25 years ago or so, you'd likely enjoy this.
I got this on sale a while ago though if you enjoyed those old point-and-click adventures, you'd enjoy this fully 3D one at any price. The price they ask is quite fair, and if you're unsure, as I mentioned you can always wait for a sale.
Definitely for the more intellectual crowd and older crowd. If you're a young gamer however, and want to pick your brain a bit this will do just fine. Watch some Youtube reviews if you are not sure.
I only played about 100 minutes prior to writing this review but can say it's quite interesting, a refreshing change of pace.

I'm done. I just can't anymore. I'm going to declare the game beaten. In my version, Mark (the main character) isn't a suicidal moron, and actually rejoins society at the numerous times he's able to.
Specifically, he survives the bunker ambush, finds Walter's safe room, grabs a bunch of the gold, then calls the police to get him out of the locked office
. He doesn't keep going back into collapsing tunnels because he doesn't want to call a cab, or the police, or break a window. He doesn't keep doing bullshit puzzles where the key is hidden in a flooded sewer where the lights are out, at the bottom of the locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign saying 'Beware of the Leopard.'

INFRA has some really cool ideas and levels. Fixing the various systems was challenging, but a blast. If the main character fixed those systems, then went back to the office to discuss further with the other team members, I probably could have kept doing the game. But rather than letting you do this, you're forced into one sewer system, tunnel or another. It ruins immersion, because no one in the universe is this stupid. No job pays so well to keep going back into a tunnel 10 minutes after the last one collapsed on top of you. Call a damn cab Mark.

Plot is more than a little convoluted but not awful. Mark could really use a lot more voice lines through the game to move the plot along and help with some of the system's tougher puzzles.

But I'm serious, some of the puzzles aren't challenging, they're just stupid.

If you like exploration and investigation, Infra will deliver an amazing experience. The levels are extremely detailed and quite large making this linear story feel like an open-world game at times. Armed with your camera and flashlight, simply explore and capture the crumbling world around you. The battery usage is probably the most frustrating part of the game which require replacement after about 2 minutes of use. Lots and lots of hidden Easter eggs in this one.

The game is very interesting, but I have only a little understanding of the plot. The dialogue of the game can only understand a small part of the story. Most of the plot and tips are on the document or note. I hope the producer can translate the documents and notes in the game into Chinese, so that the game will be greatly improved. I hope you can think about it. Thank you !

I've just finished what is likely to be my first playthrough of Infra and I have to say, this is the kind of game I've been waiting years to find. It takes the exploration, discovery and environmental hazards from first-person games such as the Half-Life series, but does away with the combat and any unnecessary screen clutter like health bars. Instead you're charged with taking photos of potential dangers, fixing up decaying industrial machines and uncovering the corruption and incompetence that is undermining the infrastructure of a city.

If you're worried that it's just a walking simulator, don't be. For a start, there is always plenty to be thinking about and doing in order to progress, as well as finding secrets and areas off the beaten track to explore. It's also extremely generous in terms of length and variety - puzzles and environments change dramatically from level to level. Yes, there can be a lot of running round the same place for hours as you try to find that key or valve that you need to continue, but I personally never lost patience or needed to resort to a walkthrough. When you eventually discover the solution, you realise you've been battling your own ability to pay attention to the details of the environment, rather than the designer's arcane or sadistic design, like in some similar games.
Yes, there is plenty of insta-death, but there are also quicksaves and fast loading times to balance this (though the latter might depend on your system, but mine is hardly state-of-the-art). Yes, you do realise as you progress how certain things could have been better (a few timed puzzles threaten the more easy-going sense of exploration; over-reliance on vast underground areas with (yawn) railway carts, and one particularly pointless and overlong raft section; no inventory, so sometimes impossible to know what the key is for that you just picked up unless the nametag was facing you at the time; no statistics either during or after the game, so you never know the % of photos or geocaches that you've found - or even what the point of the geocaches is, in fact!).

But overall, this is an impressive start to what I hope will become a larger franchise, which can iron out some of the issues above, as well as providing even more complex, labyrinthine puzzles - hopefully without resorting to gimmicks (though the promise of a 'management' system in the next game currently has me worried...).

Still, kudos to the developers for being brave enough to create this game in the current climate, and having faith that there are people like me who would fall in love with their ideas and designs. It is easily one of the most engaging games I have played in the last ten years.

INFRA is a highly unique, interesting game. Walking through abandoned structures taking pictures of cracked walls and broken equipment doesn't sound all that interesting, but somehow the developers managed to pull it off, and make it last for far longer than anyone could expect.

The level design is certainly the key factor that keeps the game engaging throughout the first two acts. The developers have gleaned a surprising amount of variety from such a mundane setting, as you move from open forests to claustrophobic sewers, into dilapidated factories and modern treatment plants. Levels often have multiple branching paths that each contain their own separate puzzles, providing you with an alternative route if you can’t figure out the solution to your current one. You would expect the setting of underground infrastructure and abandoned buildings to be limiting, but each level is designed to play to the strengths of its location. The linear tunnels in the Sewers give you a clear idea of exactly where you need to go to progress and what rooms relate to each other. Minimizing travel time between each area and avoiding confusion when multiple individual puzzles are present. Whilst the much larger Steel Mill instead places more of a focus on exploring with an ever expanding central location: Solving chains of puzzles to unlock doors to other sections, all leading to a final goal. There’s plenty of optional content in each chapter too, with additional puzzles that have long lasting effects (A puzzle I solved in Chapter 2 was required to enter an important secret area all the way in Chapter 7!), many instances of environmental storytelling and numerous collectible lore documents scattered around, providing extra detail on the town of Stalburg, its people, and a deep conspiracy that builds to a satisfying reveal over time.
And with the potential available to them, the developers thankfully showed restraint with Horror elements. Even in the darkest and most cramped areas, I never once felt scared and was always able to continue on without caution. The developers never betray your trust, despite the perfect horror settings you venture through. There are two jumpscares, but they’re only part of two easter eggs that take some effort to activate, so you should never encounter them on the main path.

The puzzles themselves mostly rely on repairing and manipulating machinery, with occasional Half-Life style physics puzzles and exploratory sections that require you to search for a key item (Often fuses) to change up the pace. The majority of puzzles make it very clear what elements you need to focus on and to what degree you can interact with them through obvious buttons, levers and indicator lights, even if it’s not immediately clear what the device even does. It lets you get straight to experimenting with solutions and figuring out what you actually need to accomplish. Annoyingly the Water Treatment puzzles are exempt from this. You’re shown a digital view of the area and the current status of each component there, but without any indication of what the final result is meant to look like. This often led to irritating bouts of trial and error without even knowing if you were making progress or undoing it. These were my least favorite parts of the game.

Looking for photograph opportunities quickly becomes an addiction. Carefully scanning the walls of every corridor you walk through, searching every room for any trace of damage just to hear that satisfying success notification from your camera. It’s a constant drip feed of dopamine. The camera’s battery requirement prevents you from holding it out permanently and just sweeping over the environment for the picture indicator, and is balanced such that you shouldn’t ever run out entirely if you search levels adequately. Completionists will have their work cut out for them.

Unfortunately, things start to go downhill in Act 3. It feels like an entirely different dev team took over. The tight corridors and clear paths are replaced with sprawling city blocks and entire towns to wander around. The puzzles suffer greatly, as the game turns to making you search these giant areas just for a few random items scattered around them. After the brilliant reveal, the conspiracy subplot fizzles out with a weak ending, and one of the last few areas is literally just a maze you need to drive an unwieldy vehicle around. The final chapter does return to the style of the prior acts, but the bulk of Act 3 was a disappointment after everything that came before it.

Regardless, I would still highly recommend INFRA to any fans of first person puzzlers or walking simulators. Even a year after finishing I routinely think about the game, there really is no other game that provides an experience quite like it.

This game is just awesome.

So. What I want to tell is that this game has a very original story line, there's no game I've ever seen in the world that would look similar to this. It has just the best detalization (well, apart mirrors, I know how hard it is to make those, but thats the least minus).
The game generally is just very very good and original, very good detailed and partially hardcore, perfect game to destroy boredom, I literally spend 4 hours playing it nonstop, before I got to the very hard moment, and finally became exhausted.

The best game I ever played. Just the best.

Setting is awesome, the main idea is so great, but there's absolutely no hint or map and some levels can be so complicated.
I gave up at the dam with the red and blue pipes, because after checking video, I realized I probably did something wrong first and there was no clue how to get back to what I saw in the vid, which asked me to do this, get back, change this over there, do that, back again, change that, etc.

Maybe there's an IQ test that I failed but I'm fine with that, too bad there's not a system of hints that you can unlock when you get lost because I really liked the premises. Hopefully there will be more games like this, with a more ergonomic approach.

Infra filled a hole I didn't know I had in my gaming life. Infra is a puzzle based exploratory game that has a decent story. Heavily dystopian at times, you slowly uncover corruption at a level that most of us thought impossible, until we grew up.

This is a game, which I keep returning to and when I play have a hard time taking a break from. It is categorized as a walking simulator, but that doesn't really do it justice.
You play as Mark, who is a safety inspector inspecting power plants, water treatment stations, sewers etc.
At first that seems rather ordinary, but these (abandoned) structures are extremely complex, and finding a way through an area and fixing all the things that doesn't work is quite challenging and makes the game a rather difficult puzzle game.
The atmosphere, the extremely complex structures and paths (which reminds me of Silent Hill without monsters) is combined with an interesting story behind all decay (which is told by notes you find laying around) makes for a game you don't want to exit during the around 30 hours of play.
The game has no enemies, but you will probably still die 100 times from drowning, electricution, fire, poison, falling, explosions etc and there will be plenty of potential for frustration during some of the harder areas where the solution might not be what you expect.
Graphically the game might not look too impressively, but that really adds to the athmosphere of a decaying world.

A cool concept that overstays its welcome. I was ready to be done at about 12 hours. If you really, really like exploring and hunting for hidden objects, you'll love this game. The critical items aren't super difficult to find, but getting 100% of collectables without a walkthrough sounds nearly impossible.

To start, I rarely write reviews, but when I do, the game is either extremely good or extremely bad.
This is fortunately the former.

This is an urban exploration puzzle / adventure game at its finest, where it seems a city is struck hard by Murphy's law.
Everything's starting to fall apart from negligence and as a structural analyst it's your job to document it all, and fix stuff along the way where possible.
There is also a very interesting plot you can uncover, about why this all happened, as well as some interesting tidbits of the city and it's inhabitants.
You'll be walking, driving, jumping, climbing and crawling through old tunnels, machine halls, air ducts and all sorts of infrastructural buildings.

I went in without much expectation, thinking I'll be done in a few 3-8 hours like some other exploration games I've played.
Boy was I wrong, currently at 27 hours and still going, even though this is my first playthrough and I am not even finished.
Also there are a metric ton of secrets and easter eggs, from which I certainly missed about 60%+.

This game was made with love and attention to detail, and filled to the brim with content to explore and uncover.
It also very much feels alive, often funny and realistic (apart from some slightly over-the-top action).
You'll often have a phonecall with your boss, or talk to someone on radio.
There are cars and trains driving around in some parts of the game, and even normal people walking around.

Can wholeheartedly recommend for it's price, fantastic little (well, big actually...) exploration gem!

And a tiny warning for the very faint-hearted, this game contains some optional (and one mandatory) scary parts, from which about 2 (or 3) could be considered jumpscares.
The game in it's core isn't a horror game by any means however and there is basically no risk of getting spooked randomly.
Mostly it's just creepy or dark without anything happening in particular, while the brain does the rest to produce some psychological unrest.

Update after finishing the game in 30 hours: Wow, really good, with a nice and gripping ending too! And I still have missed so many things in the game, I am certainly coming back to play this again in the future! Full recommendation.

If you want to explore, solve puzzles and enjoy a good story. Then that is all you need to know. I will not spoil any important details. However I will tell you that this game is different from the average and your greatest weapon is your camera in one hand, and flashlight in the other. That said, your worst enemy is gathering batteries. Personally, I never had any difficulty with that aspect. And credit is due, the fact the label on the batteries do mention they are not good enough to operate the equipment you use so I question why those batteries exist if they are genuinely poor quality. So many questions...but that is part of the charm. The environments are beautiful and there are Dandelions!!!! For me that alone is a source of happiness...but that's just me being easily entertained by very small details. This game is something you should explore for yourself. You never know what you'll find until you take a look. I had fun, Maybe you will too. :) In this review, I've shared what made me happy. The rest is up to you. Happy gaming.
