Pros:

All time classic!

Pro:
-sehr schöne und spannende Story
-an den richtigen Stellen kniffelig
-langer Spielspaß
-sehr abwechselungsreich

Contra:

Guess i dont need to say much about the Game, can absolutely recommend it to everyone who likes Rpgs.

id rather like to write a bit about the Engine used for this and Beyond Divinity.
i really liked it,it gives the Gameworld a unique Look and i would love to see more Games made with this Engine in these Days.It has its own Style and Flair and can still hold up today.
Aged well.

Stats damit man bessere Zeugs farmt :D

I decided to play this game after playing a bit of Original Sin 1 and 2 because I wanted to start from the beginning of Divinity series. I am surprised to say that despite the aged graphics, this game hold pretty well in everything. The best parts about this game in my opinion was the humor and the soundtrack. The OST is REALLY good. And the humor is really well integrated. I never expected a game from the early 2000's to engage me with music and clever humor but this game did. Definitely worth the money, and now I'm off to play the other 4 divinity games!

Wonderful game. It's really cheap on sales and offers a huge open world to explore, with a lot of interactions, characters and quests.

Some tips to new players:
- Save often. Ctrl + S.
- Careful while exploring, you are free to go anywhere you want, but the enemies might be too strong.
- It's possible to play on full-screen.
- Game might crash while opening random books on bookshelves. Always save first.
- Lockpicking and Repair are essential skills, you need both.

If you can put up with a very dated UI and control-scheme, then you might just find a treat of a game here. For once, Steam has a port of an old, PC classic that wasn't done with complete incompetence. Stays true to it's original form while maintaining playability on modern systems. If it weren't for there being better, more modern experiences to be had within this series - I'd probably recommend this more. Thankfully, Larian Studios has long kept at it and continues to improve upon their idea and world, again and again.

At the time of writing this review, I see the game is on sale for $0.59 cents. That's a laughably good price for a solid, isometric RPG. Be patient with this one and it will reward.

real classic and one of the best in the genre even 20 years after its release.
people already explained why it is good, I agree with most points being made.
if you don't mind cheeky humor and hilariously bad voice acting you definitely should try Divine Divinity.

game is DRM free and can be played offline from your desktop. I used gog version to play it (because it also downloads gorgeous soundtrack, I still listen to it). Tried to run it on Linux in wine with different prefixes (dxvk or dx + dotnet) but had to play it from Windows 7 instead. All prefixes I tried had small lag and tearing, tried to hook up mangohud to see what's the output but it failed for 32bit game. playing on Windows 7 had no issues (besides few CTDs and hang ups). Technical state of the game isn't perfect but it's not too bad either considering its age.

Divine Divinity was a fun nostalgia trip for a game that I enjoyed playing a lot when I was younger. It manages to have fun combat, an interesting story, and really had a lot of innovative features during the time of it's release. I don't think it is as good as Original Sin but I think Divine Divinity brought interesting ideas from Diablo and other RPGs popular at the time to make an overall great experience. Really my only (small) problem with the game is that lack of directional sense on where to go and how to progress the story. I understand that sometimes this is a desirable experience but it aggravated me just as much in 2021 as it did in the early 2000s.

Hey let's see if this game still works.
Just a quick test, I don't have much time.
Might as well do the first dungeon.
I mean, while I am at it, could boot it up again and play a bit further, just a bit.
Hey stop giving me quests.
That house isn't too far away.
Might as well kill those bandits now, then that's one less quest.
Why is it Monday?

Is it a perfect game? No.
Is it bug free? Hell no.
Visually or mechanically impressive? Rather not.
Great combat? Nah.
Did it age well? It's ok I guess.
And yet it still sits in my top 10 games of all times.

Back in the day I bought this game because it looked like Diablo II and hey, I kinda liked Diablo II.
This game was nothing like Diablo II.
Sure, it's similar looking, you kill things, they drop loot, but it's also completely different. (And for those moving backwards in time from D:OS: it's also nothing like Original Sin.) This game isn't endless hordes of respawning enemies, in randomly generated levels, grinding to get better and better drops. This game is a beautifully crafted world, with hand placed secrets, with weird characters and with mundane little side quests. Actually, this game was my first real RPG
and it has ruined my life
.

Almost 20 years later and I still love the detail of this game. Little frogs and rats running around. Notes and books and signs. A town that isn't just 2 houses, 3 people and a cow. A key hidden under a carpet which you can use to unlock the chest in the room. Baskets full of apples. Pillows on beds. Filling your mug at the ale keg. A sign that tells you to not touch a thing and you *really* shouldn't touch that thing, what did you expect. Moving into a house and arranging (most of) the furniture to your liking and then storing all the gems you ever found in that chest, all books you found in the bookshelf and 527 pieces of meat in the cupboard.

Combat is ok at best. You click on things and the character attacks them until they are dead (or you are dead). Combat is real time, but you can pause the game. Left click is normal attack, right click is spell/special attack. You can freely learn any skills of the 3 classes and use any weapons you find - if you fulfill the stats requirements. Control click makes you target the nearest enemy, which makes ranged combat much easier than trying to chase them down with the mouse.
This game has other nice quality of life features that I sometimes miss in games, too. Keys, once used, vanish, so you don't have to keep track of them. Containers show you if they contain anything when hovering over them. There is no accidental friendly fire. You can set markers on the map. There is a history of all your dialogues and a bestiary. You can move around all inventory/stat windows.

There are quick keys, but they are the F keys (just press an F key over a skill to assign it), which takes some time getting used to when other games usually have quick keys on the numbers and quicksave/load on the F keys.
Also I am annoyed that a patch for the digital release removed the ability to reduce the interface to three little bars at the border. The explanation was that screens nowadays are large enough. Well d'uh, but I didn't do it for that, I wanted to be able to take pretty screenshots :(
If you're a completionist, there are guides here on steam listing all possible ways quests could break and how to avoid that.

Sounds pretty mediocre, right? Why do I still fully recommend it? It regularly goes on sale for FIFTY CENTS.
I can't even get a chocolate bar for that money, reading the manual alone is worth that money, the soundtrack alone is worth that money (even though it isn't included on Steam, which is a shame, the GOG version includes the soundtrack *hint hint, nudge nudge*). I'm not sure anymore how long this game is, but I would guess 30-50h (or more, if you're as slow as I am and spend half of your time aimlessly running around). For fifty cents.

All that said, be warned: Apparently this game doesn't run well on Windows 10.
I didn't have problems on Windows 7, and now I don't have problems on Linux, running it with Proton. I capped the game to 30 fps and it's running pretty smooth and stable, with all the good graphic settings. It doesn't like alt tabbing and sometimes crashes when I try to refocus, but that's not uncommon with those old games. But if you're on Windows 10, try if it works soon after buying, so if it doesn't, you can refund it and buy half a chocolate bar instead.

A nice game with a lot of content and some fun writing. It's way better than Torchlight II if you consider it an ARPG, and it's not overly complex and hard to play like the average CRPG, so it really can be a lot of fun. The game is a bit long, though, but if you see that as a negative, you could always do fewer side quests, since the XP rewards are not that significant, anyway. One thing I do have to warn you about, though, is that this game still has the stupid ARPG random loot system, even for unique gear, so if you do get a cool weapon or armour from a quest and it doesn't turn out to be so cool, just reload to before you got it and its stats will be different. I personally didn't do that, and (mild spoiler)
got a frost effect on the Holy Weapon quest sword, so that even though the damage was garbage, I could freeze every enemy, even the final boss
. However, I'm sure my gear could have been a lot more impressive had I actually abused this system.

Still, if you can bear not really getting particularly powerful gear after the mid-game, and generally having progression slow down near the end when you unlock all the abilities you actually want and get decent enough gear to get through the rest of the game, it really is a fun one, and positively reminded me of Record of Lodoss War for the Dreamcast (if anyone except me actually played that). So, if you have played that, and were disappointed with Torchlight II, I can say from experience that you won't be so disappointed with this game.

This is so much better than Diablo 1 and 2. It has the combat and loot drops of Diablo, but with the freedom of Ultima 6 and the writing of Original Sin 2. The graphics are simply beautiful and have held up very well. One of the best games I've played in recent memory.

It's an okay game. The story and sountrack is very good. But the gameplay is very dated. The UI doesn't scale well on modern systems and there are a lot of crashes and bugs.

I've played Divine Divinity since early 2000s as a child and absolutely love that it was added to steam. I've finished it from beginning to end multiple times and never get bored with it. More recently, I especially appreciate the simple controls and pausing features mid-game that allow me to play a few minutes, pause to chase after my children, and return to game play. There are a few glitches in the game that I do not recall being in the original of sound bytes all of a sudden blowing through the speakers. It does not happen every time but it sure makes playing with headphones a little nerve wracking. Other than that, I love the game and will continue to return to it time and again.

While not as good as Oblivion or Fallout 3 the game appears to have an interesting story and the random loot drops make for a replay. One thing lacking is the game manual.

Divine Divinity is similar to Diablo 2.

The world in DD is tough, unrelenting and at times overwhelming. You can be in an area that should be safe haven, only for a wizard to pop out of the ground and cast mind control on hundreds of friendly soldiers to clobber your a**.

DD is an open world game where your choices matter. The world is filled quests, dungeons and encounters. There are no quest markers, so the game forces you to slow down a little and become immersed, actually paying attention to the story and quests you're doing.

One very important thing I feel I should explain. If you place an item in a container, that item will never de-spawn. On top of this, you can move containers and other items around in the game. I've not bought a house yet, but I've taken over an abandoned house and filled it up with lots of chests to store my loot. I feel like this feature makes the game a lot more fun.

I highly recommend this game if you're willing to look past its difficulty and old aesthetics. I've currently not encountered any bugs, but I've been told the game has a few. I'm still on my first play through, but I am really enjoying it. I will update this review when I've completed the game.

Right so, if youre thinking about getting this because of Original Sin or Divinity II a word of caution, this isnt exactly like either of those in terms of gameplay. If anything its more like old school Diablo. The actual gameplay of Divine Divinity is janky at times but overall still servicable. There will certainly be times where youll just die. In a few of the dungeons, especially the smaller ones pretty much all of the enemies will crowd around you so it helps to either be super tanky OR have someone who can be tanky for you. Mages and archers are both fine builds and a bit friendlier to new players. Melee on the other hand can be a bit of a struggle, especially early game. With mages and archers you get the ability to kite your enemies, not so much with melee and seeing as how a good portion of your first dungeon is going to be fighting multiple enemies at once it really piles on the difficulty. Another thing to consider is that the gear is based on dice rolls. In essence dropped gear has randomized stats which may or may not be good for your character. This is all fine and well but the random stats roll into ALL GEAR, even legendary gear like the dragon armour which if you get the right set can really give your character a giant buff. So its not a terrible idea to do a little save scumming to get some ideal equipment, cause youre gonna need it. Flat out the game is pretty hard early on and if youre just investing skill points willy nilly your gonna run into a wall skill wise. Always be thinking long term when investing skills, what will benefit me the most when fighting literal demons, instead of dumping points into identify. Id recommend a build guide to maximize your enjoyment, additionally have the quest guide open here on steam. There are several quests which can break the progression of other quests so always have that guide pulled up just in case also isnt a bad idea to have a guide pulled up so you can do the easter egg!

Moving on to sound and graphics. As far as general battle sounds go, its servicable. I cant quite recall any outright bad sounds but nothing over the top great either. For what voice acting the game does have its a bit of a mixed bag. Zandalor stands out as being one of the better ones and the main character is on the lower end as he sounds just neutral the entire time, no real worry or emphasis. Graphics here are pretty good as well at least for the time, however there is a few times where some of the textures, most notably grass and stone can obscure some items. Lastly the music for this game goes above and beyond. Beyond Divinity! There are a few just generic fantasy tracks but id wager that roughly 3/4 of the music are genuine bangers.

Overall rating: 2 existential skeletons out of infinity

Worked well on Linux with Proton. There were two crashes, but I'm not sure if that was a Linux Specific thing.

Nice little Diablo 1/2-like RPG that I can recommend to fans of the genre that while I did enjoy it, it comes with the caveat that it's a buggy, old game. This is a game that you want to look up guides for quest-breakers as it's very easy to break quests (including main quests which prevent you from completing the game).

The game also has issues with pathfinding (trying to get my guy to stay still to attack someone or to move to a specific spot were exercises in frustration). Storage is a mess as you can throw things on top of each other. Worse, information can be sparse at times. It can be hard to tell what a specific item does or where a key goes (especially annoying if you lockpick a chest or never find it so you are stuck with a key that you have no clue if you need or not - particularly since some are needed during quests). There were a couple of levers in the final dungeon you need to press to open the way, but unlike the majority of levers, there is no indication you actually did anything which was annoying.

Balance can easily be broken as well (which could be good or bad depending on the person - you could easily avoid most of it): from overpowered things like Deadly Gift (which can practically solo most of the game), Frost (get it on a weapon and freeze foes so they are helpless as you whack them), poison (kill them off screen with a bow) to being able to dupe things (so you have an endless supply of gold, scorpions for deadly gift, potions, etc.).

After 65 hours I have just completed my first play-through. (albeit, I admittedly did not complete every side quest as there are just far too many) and I have started several more characters to try different builds, different choices and complete other stories as I keep finding new ones! Main play-through was ~50 hours

Highly recommend to anyone seeking a heavily story-driven RPG with a lot of pleasantly injected humour. The number of side quests and hidden secrets is gargantuan. Your decisions will have consequences right from the early game all the way through varying from characters making an appearance later on and giving you a reward for a good deed, to characters dying off if you failed to save them or ignored their side-quest. However, these will not stop you from completing the main story.

In terms of quests, there is a main story with 4 or 5 primary subplots and dozens and dozens of questlines branching out for hours upon hours of interesting story. A lot of the minor stories often do still connect to the bigger picture and will give you insight as to what's going on around you and leads on the main plot. Reading the books you find lying around is often advantageous. Though, a lot of the books are stories within the divinity universe about things such as pirates or knights and are broken up into 4 or 5 chapters which you have to find spread around the worlds libraries.

** I did not get any broken quests on my play-through, however I am told there are some which can break. Following the natural progression however does seem to solve this problem. **

There is a reputation system in the game for your character, this does open up new quest opportunities which you would otherwise miss out on. However, on the flip side, there are equal opportunities presented to you if you wish to play the evilist bastard to walk the land and fuck everyone over.

The main story is fully voice acted along with a handful of side quests. Worth listening to as there's a lot of humor often injected into the dialogue as Larian often does.

The art style is beautiful, the maps are huge and the hidden secrets aplenty. So exploring and multiple play-throughs is heavily encouraged. Try different choices for different outcomes, discover new areas you missed the first or second time you play through.

The combat and gearing system is a lot like Diablo 2 with randomly generated drops and many guaranteed items with randomised stats (reload a few times for better stats/skills, it's encouraged.)

The skill-trees are smaller than Diablo, however, you have the option to skill into anything no matter your starting class. Though, attributes are weighed different (wizard gets more mana from int, survivor (rogue) get mores out of agility and warrior gets more out of constitution and strength).
Putting points in different trees is very handy as I found my mage very quickly turned into a sword and board wielding battle-mage with buffs and debuffs and enchanted weapons.

When playing, save often as in my experience, there were a handful of chests and bookshelves which when opened did crash my game. This however only happened 3 or 4 times throughout the entire game. When saving, also make sure to Hard Save with names etc rather than constantly quick saving as you may need to backtrack and redo something an hour or so ago. Also don't be retarded like me and try to cheese a puzzle with the pyramids and lock yourself in a house and be forced to load a save from almost 2 hours ago.

Oh yeah, you can also buy your own house and steal shit from all over the world to furnish it and make it your main base of operations or simply a side thing you can work on while playing through the story.
---

A few negatives to point out;

The game is old. So pathing can sometimes be a pain in the ass when your character doesn't want to walk where you try and make it go or it decides to take the longest possible route to the chest 2 feet in front of you.

I could not launch the game above 1920x1080. The game still looks really nice btw, but on my 2560x1440 monitor it did feel a little fuzzy in some areas.

The final act does feel a little rushed and at times tedious, however, much like act 3 of Divinity Original Sin 2, it is on the shorter side (5-10 hours) so it does not sour your experience of the game much if at all. The ending is still very satisfying and is not ruined by this.

Certain skills do feel very underwhelming or borderline useless (looking at you summon vermin)

Alchemy: this is both a pro and a con. It feels very useful and you will likely find yourself doing it a lot, but it does get a bit tedious when you're in the middle of a dungeon and find yourself out of potions so you need to go back to town and you find the vendors don't have many so you have to go out and make your own. Putting your progression on hold to scavenge for mushrooms. But, I am glad they added a 'profession' that isn't terribly pointless. However, it costs valuable skill points to level up which is also a bit of a bummer.

Much like a lot of older RPGs, once you beat the game it is over. You cannot go back and finish off anything you missed, so you'd best do that beforehand. (again, make Hard Saves at various points to allow for this if you do not wish to make another character and play again).

Pro/con: A lot of things are not very well explained in-game and will require experimenting to figure out or just google it. Most things are explained in books in-game but a few are left up to the player to discover. Personally, being use to the hand-holding of modern games I did find it a refreshing experience to be left to my own devices, however I can see this being frustrating for many people.

---

In closing.. A fantastic game from 2002 that holds up to this day. It has it's quirks, but it really adds to the charm.

If you like really buggy games w/ no tutorials, then yes. It's infuriating to figure out, so I wouldn't recommend it, but if that's your jam, sure. I can say once I dug through tens of near two decade old forums and figured it out, then yes, I did enjoy it. The process was not fun, though.

This is such a great piece of rpg history. If you have never played it, then you should really change that fact. Thinking outside the box, no hand-holding, amazing soundtrack and quite revolutionary for the time it was released in. Is it perfect? Hell, no! But, it's still an amazing game overall which takes me back to my childhood. If you are a fan of rpgs, then this is a must buy.

I've enjoyed my time with this game thus far. The game has some humor to it and clever ways to perform quests. It does crash on my computer (save often) and the store menu was a bit unclear to me for a while. I am going to keep playing it despite the flaws because thus far I do enjoy the world. Not perfect but it is only $5.00 these days.

I leave this info here, maybe it will help.I think I managed to find a solution to the crash of the cinematic video of the council of seven and the INTRO opening cinematic in the main menu(I don't know if it works for the cut scene in the end of the game, this is my first time playing the game, but it should work hopefully). So close the game, right click on the game in your library, select Properties and verify the integrity of game files. After that is done right click on your desktop-Nvidia Control Panel-Display-Change Resolution-Customize-in the new window opened -Create custom resolution-Display mode as reported by Windows:
-Horizontal pixels enter: 640
-Vertical lines enter:480
-Click TEST
- When the confirmation windows opens choose-Yes,apply changes.
-In the Customise window-enable resolutions not exposed by this display
- Click OK.(in the customise window)
-Close the NVIDIA control panel
That's it,don't change anything else.

Open the game and enjoy the Intro and the cutscenes:)I am happy if this helps someone, since I was playing the game at the Council and the game crashed and also I wasn't able to play the Intro when I started the game. This solution also worked for me with some other old games I have so maybe it will work for you as well.Good luck:)

-About scorpion traps:
another thing I want to mention:if you are in desperate need of scorpion traps like I was and you cant find them anywhere,(I managed to lost mine somehow while playing and didn't find any at the thieves guild and couldn't find Tingalf,go to Verdistis at the traveling merchant Mpenzak (near the Town Watch)he has some available to sell to you. After that use the easy item duplication cheat and obtain as many as you need.
-For movement speed and unlimited carry weight I use cheat table(cheat engine required) by Atom0s,it really helps a lot(my char running so slow sometimes tried my patience)it works with Steam version of the game and with the GOG one as well.

Best guides and walkthrough I used with thanks:

(My advise for you is to install PDF Mage Chrome extension and download the ones you need)it's way more convenient.I use Adobe Acrobat Reader DC software to open PDF files.

Imagine if Terry Prachett wrote Skyrim, but in the early 2000s and 2.5D. This game is witty, magical and full of secrets. Traditional enough to hit all the classic rpg fantasy notes, unique enough to make you happy for a man cursed into being a wild boar who has now found his calling in life, so please don't change him back. He's happy. Also playing a sort of summoner's version of ding-dong-ditch on a demon in Verdistis.

Good times.

Great game! Massive amount of content here, with the occasional broken quest (make friends with message boards detailing quest steps). I went through as a rogue with maxed out poison, backstab, lockpicking, etc. as well as dipped into the ranger class a bit, and I can say that it looked like the warrior class would have the most fun on a play through, since most of the armor, weapons, and content appear to be geared towards hack 'n slash.

My one recommendation would be to become your own blacksmith as early as possible and max out Identify and Repair asap. Will save you a ton of money and trips to the shop every 5 seconds.

10/10 - Great humor, tons of content, good leveling system, and interesting gameplay. This game surprised me.

Divine Divinity is a decent Diablo-like ARPG with typical Larian humour. The mob killing and dungeon mazes are tedious, but that is compensated with a solid story and nice secrets. The loot is mostly trash and there are only a handful of decent items in the game, and the overall progression suffers from difficulty spikes, but, on the bright side, there's multitude of skills and the player is not restricted to his class skills. The great soundtrack and detailed environment offers relaxing and immersive exploration. If you are looking for a fun old-school ARPG that doesn't take itself too serious, DD is your type of game.

The good
 • Decent story
 • Humour (the game even trolls the player occassionally)
 • Secrets
 • Detailed environment
 • Beautiful soundtrack
 • No class restrictions
 • Immersive atmosphere

The neutral
 • Open world
 • Some unneccessary mechanics (e.g., weapon sheating, item identification)

The bad
 • Sloppy endgame
 • Broken economy (traders always short on gold, many items require identification to be sold at full price)
 • Boring and broken loot system (most items are trash, very few unique items, lack of armor sets (I found only one), many items require identification to be equiped)
 • Difficulty spikes
 • The dungeon areas are too big, and some are also too convoluted
 • Quite a few quests are poorly presented and you can break some of them, by doing something in a wrong order.

My overall rating: 8/10

I played more than Steam says I did. I actually beat the game with most quests completed.

It's just mediocre. It has its charm and if its more major flaws had been ironed out it would be a straight up good game. Probably not great, but good. But due to all the flaws I can't really recommend playing it in 2020. It lags. It crashes. It's buggy and some of the bugs are game breaking. It's unbalanced. The ending isn't too satisfying. The humor only landed a couple times for me.

Maybe if you get it dirt cheap you might think it's worthwhile. But I got it dirt cheap and found it to be kind of a waste of time.

Divine Divinity was almost canceled and you can see that fact through every inch of it: from the unnecessarily ambitious addition of a weapon sheathing mechanic to how you'll need a guide to avoid breaking many of its quests. Even with said guide, some quests seemed to abruptly end as if they just barely survived being cut. But defining the experience by that fact alone ignores how dense and alive this game's world is.

For the first two-thirds, I thought I was playing an open world game by how large and full the first map is. The next map is a single city instead of the many scattered forts and settlements I'd come to expect. But at the same time, it does deliver a complete city with its guild houses, shops, mansions, and hovels. Now, the map after that does start to show what was lost to the crunch. In an effort to construct a realistically vast and gloomy forest with what time was left, this map ended up about twice as large as its content could sustain. There was always plenty of hack-and-slash combat placed between points of interest on the first map, but this third map seemed to go large swaths with only random clumps of enemies and none of the narrative justification that had carried the experience up to this point.

Its focus on role-playing elements is what makes Divine Divinity stand out among other hack-and-slash games. I don't think it quite succeeded in knocking the titan Diablo II out of its place, as seems to have been the intent. But, there's only one reason I can think of ever choosing the original Diablo over this game, and that's atmosphere. Perhaps it's the bright and open look of the game or its willingness to fall back on lighthearted humor, but Divine Divinity does struggle with atmosphere. Its plot is a slowly unfolding mystery of political intrigue, albeit magically so, with absolute stakes and a protagonist that was as much a chosen one as they were just some random person. But even as grand and mesmerizing as that sounds, the game never quite takes itself seriously enough it let the player dive into it.

The books scattered about have a similar difficultly sinking themselves into the setting. Without name-dropping relevant locations and by barely integrating setting-specific concepts, they end up being little more than diversions, despite how interesting their stories are.

The soundtrack, however, bucks this trend entirely. Most of the time, it just blends into the background, creating and supporting the mood without demanding any direct attention. But occasionally, a track will really swell and force the player to stop for a second to take in it. “Winds of Sand” is an excellent example of this. A slog through a wasteland with the game's climax just beyond my reach became one of the fonder memories I have of the game due to what that composition added to the area.

The open skill system does a similar job tying the combat into the rest of the experience. By placing the usual combat improvements under the same heading as abilities centered around interacting with world around you, you're encouraged to view lock picking through the same lens as you would a damage increase. This keeps the constant transition between action and dialogue from being jarring. However, among all the great customization that system provides, are a handful skills I can't see a use for even after finishing the game and at least one that just doesn't work at all. So even this successful mechanic also exists as another example of the ambitious promise this game just barely doesn't live up to, while delivering something pretty incredible all the same.

Overall fun but if not a bit unbalanced real time with pause CRPG from Larian. The writing is very fun and doesn't take itself too seriously, the music and artwork used in the game is just wonderful and it's a game brimming with personality. For some however, this may not be enough to excuse the extremely janky gameplay, as well as incompatibilities with modern systems that can cause crashing among other things. I still however personally enjoyed my time with the game and recommend it.

Everyone who like crpgs or loot should have already played this, so shame on you if you haven't. I own this game on multiple platforms...just in case it disappears from one. Why did I take so long to play this? Games great, really it is. It's like non-linear Diablo 2 with deep RPG elements. Exploration, character building and gameplay is all much more free-form.

Very fun and lighthearted game, with detailed and fluid 2D art that still holds up.

Edit: Be aware that you can play the game without any fixes needed, but if you want the superior hardware accelerated graphical effects you will have to download and configure a program called dgVoodoo to emulate a compatible DirectX GPU. There may also be other solutions.

Have you ever wondered if Diablo and Baldur's Gate had a baby? That's what Divine Divinity is. The perfect blend of CRPG and ARPG.
I must warn any newcomer that this is the second game and first RPG made by Larian Studios and it suffers heavily from poorly coded and implemented quests that can and most likely will give you major headaches.
It's highly recommended to follow a guide while playing since Larian nor any fans ever made a patch that fix most bugs.

Save often and have fun!

Divine Divinity was a great game for it's time and even today it's worth checking out for fans of oldschool RPG's or ARPG's (or for fans of Divinity Original Sin).

The core gameplay is similar to Diablo but with an open world to explore and plenty of quests and dialogue. It doesn't hold your hand whatsoever and reading through conversations to get an idea of where to go/what to do next is crucial. Especially since it's easy to stumble into areas you might not yet be ready for.

Character development is pretty straight forward. You got your standard three classes (fighter, rogue, mage) but can choose whatever skills you want and build a hybrid class as you see fit (I strongly recommend investing in magic in the early game). The sound is okay but nothing special (and I got this weird noise at times when transitioning from one area to another which is slightly annoying) and graphics are what you'd expect for a isometric rpg from 2002.

All in all it's a fine game and considering it's price it should be a no-brainer for oldschool cRPG fans to try this one out. It's pretty hard at times and can seem a bit cryptic when trying to figure out what to do/where to go but that's to be expected from cRPG's from that period. Definitely worth it IMO.

This game brings back many fond memories of the old RPG games I used to play on PC. You can never fail with the classics. Plus I'm a big fan of medieval type games, so that helps. There's plenty of lore and side quests, so you'll never get bored. There are a lot of skills available and you gain skill points at every level so you can purchase skills. Careful though, there are no skill resets, as far as I know. You have to plan ahead what you want. You get to choose between a warrior, rogue or mage, but technically all skills from every class are available to you so you can customize your character any way you choose. Just take a moment to look at every skill and plan how you want your character's class and skills and you should be fine.

The only thing I don't like about this game is that everything on the field is pretty much blacked out until you explore it. I can understand the map being blank and you have to fill it as you go exploring. But having actual towns and open fields blank as well, you could bump into a horde of enemies and not realize it until it's too late. But I suppose that's the whole point of an open world game. Your character is a new adventurer that landed on a strange place that's new to him/her, so it kind of makes sense everything around you is a complete blank until you explore it and become familiar with locations. Definitely a good game to try out, especially if you happen to like games with a great story and plenty of lore.

It takes a bit to get used to the dated style and if you have a lot of trouble going back to old games you might not like it. In my ongoing and likely futile effort to write a Steam review for every game in my library (#83 out of 555)... it's time for Divine Divinity.

Funny how these days pretty much everyone who likes CRPGs knows who Larian is, huh? Things sure have changed. Divine Divinity is the game that started it all -- the game that your friends had either never heard of, or only knew enough about to dismiss out-of-hand as a lazy Diablo clone with a silly name,

And, okay, fair's fair. It is a very silly game.

It's also surprisingly engaging, being less of a Diablo-clone and more of a synthesis of elements from the Diablo and Ultima series, infused with what would later be characterized as typical Larian humor. And it holds up remarkably well today -- thanks in no small part to Larian continuing to support the game and make sure it works well on modern PCs. I can't exactly say Divine Divinity has aged well, but if you're still able to enjoy golden-era CRPGs like Diablo II or Baldur's Gate, despite whatever shortcomings they may have in terms of core mechanics or UI design, you'll likely also find a lot to appreciate with Divine Divinity.

I turned the final boss into a frog and froze it in place before it could run away.

Divine Divinity is an engaging and immersive RPG from the very first click. Beginners will appreciate the steady scaffolding, while veterans carve out a delicate build and story. Overall, the depth and richness of this classic, provide hours of unique and challenging adventures.
