Die zerschmetterten Überreste des Mutterplaneten Gaia schweben am Himmel des nahen gelegenen Satellitenplaneten, Archos. Obwohl Archos ein Planet voll vom Wohlstand ist, dient er immer als unausweichlichen Beweis für die dunklen Kräfte der Welt. Als ein einsamer Wanderer sollst du etwas lernen, wie man in der Wildnis überlebt. Zugleich sollst du auch den Weg zu Zuhause mit allen Kräften suchen. Du sollst an die magische Umwelt gewöhnen und die Landschaft dieses Planets verstehen, um die vielfältige Ressourcen zu erreichen, die seltene Kreaturen zu zähmen und eigenes Zuhause anzubauen. Darüber hinaus sollst du Freunde zusammenrufen, um die Invasion abzuwehren. Wollen Sie die Welt mit mächtigen dunklen Kreaturen füllen oder die Welt mit Licht reinigen? Das Schicksal der Welt liegt in Ihrer Hand!

Jeder Aspekt von Dark und Light wurde neu gestaltet, bearbeitet und aktualisiert. Gaia's ursprüngliche elementare Kräfte einschliesslich Wind, Erde, Wasser, Feuer, Licht und Dunkelheit, findet man überall in dieser Welt. Diese Elemente werden manchmal zusammenstoßen und riesige Reaktionen verursachen. Deshalb gibt es in der Welt eine Reihe von verschiedenen Landschaften, zum Beispiel kalte Gipfeln, dichte Wälder, schwimmende Inseln, versteckte Höhle usw. Und das Wetter im Spiel wird große Auswirkungen auf den Charakter haben, bzw.der Regen wird sowohl den Effekt Kälte als auch Hunger von Spielernbeeinflussen.

Vor Jahrhunderten wurde Gaia von dunklen Kräften heimgesucht und stürzte die Welt in die Dunkelheit. Viele Kreaturen flohen nach Archos, einem Satellitenplanet von Gaia. Bei Tageslicht istder Planet ein friedlicher Ort, doch in der Nacht wird der Planet durch die dunkle Energie Gaias angegriffen. Gelegentlich wird die Sonne blockiert, dann kommt die Sonnenfinsternis. Das führt zu einer „blutrünstige Raserei“, aber auch bietet die Möglichkeiten, seltene magische Ressourcen zu erhalten.

Magie spielt in Dark and Light eine extrem wichtige Rolle. Es gibt über 100 magische Fähigkeiten und sie beziehen sich auf Survival, Erkunden, Kampf, Verteidigung und anderen wichtigen Spielmechaniken. Durch Magie können die Spieler das Gebäude errichten, das Wetter beeinflußen, oder sich zu einem anderen Ort befördern. Und es ist auch möglich, dass Spieler wichtige Schlachtfeld Fähigkeiten mithilfe von einem magischen Stab oder mit mehr als 14 verschiedenen Nah- und Distanzkampfwaffen meistern.

In Dark and Light gibt es zahlreiche Kreaturen, zusätzlich zu den bekannteren wie Bären oder Elche gibt es noch andere mystische Kreaturen, z.B. Einhörner, Drachen und Goblins, die man zuvor nie gesehen hat. Solche Kreaturen lassen sich jagen oder zähmen. Außerdem sind sie sie eine große Quelle der elementaren Magie. Spieler können seine magische Essenz entziehen oder sie zu ihren Gefährten machen. Manchmal haben die gezähmte Kreaturen noch einen großen Einfluss auf den PVE/PVP Kampf.

Es ist schwierig in Dark and Light allein zu überleben, deshalb müssen die Spielers zusammenarbeiten. Auf dem Weg des Abenteurers können die Spieler Freunde suchen und gemeinsam kämpfen. Ein Team braucht klare Aufgaben und eine gute Arbeitsteilung ist auch sehr wichtig. Wenn man kein Interesse an Magie hat, kann man sich auch auf die Verbesserung von anderen Fertigkeiten konzentrieren, z.B Geschwindigkeit, Ausdauer oder Stärke.Die Kombination von Krieger, Magier und Trainer liefert einen Vorteil in „large-scale battles“.

Spieler starten sein Abenteuer in einer von drei Hauptstädten. Die Heimatstädte sind wichtig für die Spieler, die am Anfang relativ schwach sind und Unterstützung brauchen. Das macht Ihnen Spaß, wenn Sie Fortschritte machen und immer mehr Verantwortungen in der Fraktion tragen.

Dark und Light gibt Spieler die Freiheit, überall in der Welt Zuhause zu bauen. Es gibt nur wenige Orte, wo ein Bau nicht möglich ist. Für den Bau brauchen die Spieler vor allem Materialien. Am Anfang können die Spieler nur die Materialien wie Stroh und Holz erreichen. Aber sobald die Spieler fortgeschrittenere Werkzeuge hat, kann er dann bessere Materialien wie Steine und Metall benutzen. Wenn die Spieler höherwertigere Materialien suchen will, muss er auch einige magische Fähigkeiten lernen.

Der Zusammenbruch von Gaia und die Invasion von dunklen Kräften droht Archos immer. Obwohl die Verbindung zwischen Archos und Gaia abgeschnitten sind, stehen alle Lebewesen auf Archos unter dem Einfluss der dunklen Kräften von Gaia. Wollen Sie die Welt mit mächtigen dunklen Kreaturen füllen oder die Welt mit Licht reinigen? Das Schicksal der Welt liegt in Ihrer Hand!

Meine Rezension bezieht sich auf den Early Access Stand des Spiels!

Derzeit bin ich relativ unentschlossen wie ich dieses Spiel bewerten soll.
Das Spiel selbst, liebevoll gemacht mit einer Menge an guten Ideen. Die Landschaft ist schön gemacht, die verschiedenen Biome, alles wunderbar. Das alles würde mich zu einer positiven Bewertung für dieses Spiel bringen. Natürlich gibt es Bugs, natürlich sind viele der Quests nicht abschließbar aber dafür ist es ja Early Access! Ich verstehe aber unter EA Titeln genau dass, eine Spielwiese für die Entwickler um Fehler zu finden.

Das Große Problem und das ist der letztlich entscheidende Grund für mich meine Wertung Negativ zu gestalten ist aber die Tatsache das wie so oft, bei so vielen guten Spielansätzen zuvor die Entwickler sich von dem Projekt zurückgezogen haben, zumindest scheint es so, da seit 2020 nichts mehr passiert ist.
Ich mache den Entwicklern da nicht mal Vorwürfe es gibt viele Gründe im Leben wieso man seine Arbeit nicht zu Ende bringt. Aber ich kann dann auch keine Empfehlung zum Kauf eines Produktes erwarten was vermutlich niemals fertig wird!

Insgesamt sehr traurig weil hier wirklich potenzial drin steckt.

Ist wirklich ein schönes Game, leider haben die Entwiklers hammer an die Wand gehängt, und es geht gar nicht weiter. das hat ein grosses Potenzial zu einem sehr guten Game zu werden, aber wie gesagt die hoffnug stierbt als letztes, wir können nur abwarten.

@Snail Games USA Bitte Setzt euch dran dieses Wunderbare Game, und das Dev Kit zu Aktualisieren, denn es hat Eindeutig ein sehr grosses Potenzial zu einem sehr sehr guten Game zu werden, und auch eine kleine Bitte dazu, dreht die Konfiguration des Spielers für die Kamera um, Spieler zu Fuss in erster Person, und auf einem Tier in 3er Person. Danke

Wirklich schade! Ich habe das Game gerne gespielt aber, so wie es aussieht, wird es nicht weiterentwickelt. Die zweite Karte hat dem Spiel mMn nicht gut getan.
Steam kann anscheinend auch nichts gegen so genannte Abondonware machen. Was schade ist, weil wie soll man so seinen Store gegen solche Spiele schützen?
Unterm Strich waren das aber sehr gute 140 Stunden, mit vielen Bugs und verlorenen Mounts.

Ich hab mir das Spiel im Sale gekauft für 4€ und bereue es nicht. Klar es ist im EA und verbuggt. Und mit großer Wahrscheinlichkeit wird es nie fertig gestellt weil seit 2019 kein Update mehr kam? Aber trotzdem kann man sehr viel Spaß im Spiel haben.

Das Fantasy Settig ist einfach zu nice. Man hat sehr viele questen und wird da sehr an die Hand genommen. Die Welt ist sehr schön. Und im Grunde kann man dort alles das tut was man auch in Ark machen kann und viel mehr.

Es ist ehrlich gesagt eine Schande das man dieses Spiel fallen gelassen hat! Trotzdem kann man es sich mal gönnen wenn’s im Sale ist. :)

Das Spiel ist nicht fertig, es gibt einen haufen bugs, den Entwicklern ist quasi alles egal was da noch passiert,... Es ist trotzdem ein gutes Spiel in meinen Augen. Mit meinen Freunden hatte ich da schon viel Spaß. Aber nicht jedem ist der Preis für dieses Spiel gerecht. Das könnte genauso gut ein 70cnt game sein. Aufgrund der bugs, des Studios das keine Spiele fertig macht und der verlockenden Trailer mit Spielinhalt, der nicht vorkommt, kann ich es jedoch nicht wirklich weiterempfehlen. Mir macht es Spaß, den meisten aber eher nicht.

an sich wäre ja das spiel echt top hätte man halt eine karte zur Hand, weil wenn man tot ist sieht man nicht wo die Leiche ist um wieder an seine Sachen zu kommen und wenn man sich wo wieder belebt kommt man eh zu 99% nicht zu seiner Leiche weil dich einfach alles angreift aus 100 km Entfernung...

Verschwendetes Potenzial.
Ich habe immer gehofft, dass es irgendwann komplett gepatcht wird, sodass es spielbar ist.

Noch nie tat es mir so leid einem Spiel eine schlechte Bewertung zu geben...
Denn dieses Spiel ist der absolute Wahnsinn! Die Grafiken sind schön, der Spielstil macht unglaublich Spaß und es wird nicht langweilig, nicht mal mit verhältnismäßig wenig Content.
Wer ARK mag, würde auch Dark and Light lieben... Nur leider wurde dieses Spiel von den Machern vergessen. Hier passiert nichts mehr. Was unglaublich traurig ist, denn dieses Spiel hat das Potential eben z.B. ARK den Rang abzulaufen, zu 100%!
Aber unter den Umständen, dass dieses Spiel keinerlei Development und Support erhält, da sich hier niemand mehr drum kümmert, kann ich leider einfach keine Kaufempfehlung aussprechen. Wer es trotzdem spielt, wird ein paar sehr spaßige und fesselnde Stunden erleben, aber das erreicht leider recht zügig ein Ende.

Nach meinem Test hinterlässt mich das Spiel ziemlich hin und her gerissen. Auf der einen Seite ist es natürlich kein Problem sich an einem Vorbild zu orientieren und auf diesem aufzubauen. Sehr viele Spiele in unterschiedlichsten Genres machen das und haben damit teils auch beeindruckenden Erfolg. Nur allein mit einer Kopie ist es jedoch nicht getan. Es fehlt eine eigene Identität, ein Alleinstellungsmerkmal, etwas, dass die Leute zum Spiel hinzieht. Und die Tatsache, dass es hier Magie als Spielelement gibt, ist definitiv nicht genug.

Zudem hinterlassen die mäßige Präsentation und die vielen Bugs einen sehr faden Beigeschmack und schmälern den Spielspaß. Warum zum Teufel funktionieren die Steam-Achivements nicht? Warum blamiert man sich mit einer deutschen Übersetzung, die noch schlechter ist, als das, was Google auswerfen würde? Genauso ist es ein Glücksspiel auf einen anderen Spieler in der Spielwelt zu treffen – wodurch das Spiel dem Genre MMO (Massively Multiplayer Online) nicht mehr gerecht wird.

Man kann hier nur hoffen, dass der angesprochene Steambeitrag mit dem vermeintlichen Entwicklerpost der Realität entspricht und es derzeit nur so ruhig ist, da die Entwickler mit Hochdruck an einer Überarbeitung des Spiels arbeiten. Auch dann muss ich aber sagen, dass dies keine derartige Funkstille seitens der Entwickler gegenüber den Fans auf Steam entschuldigt. Selbst auf der offiziellen Webseite im News-Tab ist die letzte Aktualisierung vom April 2018. Was soll das? Ich kann es nicht oft genug sagen, Kommunikation ist das A und O, ganz besonders während des Early Access, in welchem die Community ja eigentlich in die Entwicklung einbezogen werden sollte.

Abschließend bleibt mir nur zu sagen, dass ich leider keine Empfehlung für dieses Spiel aussprechen kann. Hardcore-Fans des Survival-Sandbox-Genres, die auf der Suche nach neuen Abenteuern sind, finden hier möglicherweise einige Stunden Spielspaß und können manche der Probleme verzeihen. Neulingen hingegen dürfte sehr schnell der Spaß am Überleben vergehen, weshalb ich dazu rate, auf andere Größen des Genres zurückzugreifen, bis sich eines Tages am Spiel etwas tut und die Entwickler zeigen, dass ihnen ihr Spiel noch immer am Herzen liegt. Derzeit wirkt es nämlich absolut nicht so.

Tach Zusammen,
ich habe DaL nach Jahren mal wieder eine Chance gegeben und es mir wieder auf die Platte gezogen.
Meine Ängste haben sich bestätigt. Das Ding ist ein Bug. Ein Einziger. Zum Relaese haben ein paar Freunde und ich es eine Zeit lang gezockt und es war wirklich gut! Dann fing Snail Games das updaten und patchen an.
Es ist/wahr ein EA Titel also alles gut, aber nach 2 bis 3 Jahren immer noch die selben Fehler im Spiel zu haben, die ursprünglich nicht drin wahren, zu haben ist schon eine Frechheit. Das die Grafik nicht auf dem Neuesten Stand ist, damit kann ich leben. Das die deutsche Übersetzung Müll ist, damit kann ich auch leben, aber das mir z.B. an einigen Wänden von Gebäuden keine Texturen angezeigt werden, am Nebengebäude (das genauso aussieht) alles super aussieht, kann ich nicht verstehen.
Schön wahr auch als ich im Startgebiet von einem Lv 165 Wildschwein getötet wurde, oder das ich auf einmal nicht mehr in die Ego schalten konnte.... usw. usw.
Kauft dieses Spiel nicht!
Es ist nicht gut!
Die Qualität ist vergleichbar mit meinem Satzbau und Rechtschreibunkh! ;)
Muss ich mehr sagen.

Ich liebe dieses Spiel, allerdings wundert es mich, dass es nach über 3 Jahren noch immer ein Early Access ist.
Bisher habe ich im Einzelplayer-Modus gespielt und konnte mir die Welt so formen, wie ich es wollte. Aber selbst nach fast 300h bin ich noch lange nicht so weit zu sagen, dass ich es wirklich kann. Leider habe ich mehrere Anläufe gebraucht, weil es noch viele Bug gab, die mich im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes nackig da stehen lassen haben. Oder ich einfach zu oft gestorben bin.
Ich spiele mit Maus und Tastatur, was wahrscheinlich die schwierige Variante ist, da man genau zielen muss um zu treffen. Auch bin ich nicht so geübt in diesen Spielen, daher können sich hier auch Anfänger für das Genre ran trauen.
Im Grunde ist es ein typisches grindig Spiel, man muss jede Menge Zeugs suchen und abbauen, damit man voran kommt. Aber gerade das macht für mich den Reiz aus.
Rund um die Beginnercamps/ -städte sind die meisten Wesen friedlich, aber denn noch muss man aufpassen. Auch da kann man schon aggressiven Tieren begegnen.
Es gibt unglaublich viel zu entdecken, vor allem ist es einem komplett frei gelassen, wie man den Charakter macht. Magier und Bogenschütze in einem ist genauso möglich wie Schwertkämpfer und Verwandlungskünstler.
Man kann Tiere fangen und auch ihre Eigenschaften leveln. Sollen sie mehr aushalten oder mehr tragen? Baut wo und was ihr wollt, ihr merkt, wenn es irgendwie nicht richtig war, z.B. wurden meine ganzen Haustiere gefressen, als ich nicht da war, weil irgendwo ein Spalt offen war.
Das Spiel ist auch oft Schonungslos, wer nicht aufpasst, wird gefressen und wenn du Pech hast, kannst du dir die Sachen nicht wieder holen, die du bei dir hattest.
Es gibt mittlerweile auch schon viele Workshops, die dir das Leben erleichtern können.
Allerdings habe ich gemerkt, dass ich, wenn ich länger nicht gespielt habe, nicht ganz so schnell wieder rein finde. Es braucht etwas Übung für ungeübte MMOler und den Ton sollte man schon gar nicht weglassen. Man hört meistens zuerst das, was einen töten will.
Zu erwähnen wäre noch die Einstellungen im Einzelplayer-Modus. Man kann Tag und Nacht angleichen, wie viel Schaden man nimmt, wie schnell was wieder recovert. Quasi von nicht so ganz einfach bis ganz schwer.

Klar, das Spiel ist immer noch etwas verbugt, aber damit kommt man klar. Und man sollte nicht gleich aufgeben und ihm eine Chance geben.

Für ein Early Access-Spiel macht es schon Spaß, allerdings auch fast nur mit Freunden. Alleine kann es ein paar Tage Spaß machen, aber dann vergeht die Lust sehr schnell. Die Idee Fantasy und Survival zusammen zu bringen hat mich selbst dazu getrieben das Spiel mal aus zu probieren.
Ich gebe dem Spiel eine Chance sich zu einem guten Game zu entwickeln und stehe dahinter, dass es etwas sehr gutes werden kann.

Sehr fehlen tut mir die Erklärung der Geschichte, was mit der Welt und allem geschehen ist und der gleichen.
Die Server sind recht leer, aber nicht Tod und es lässt sich auch gut alleine entdecken.

Sollte das Spiel mal im Angebot sein kann ich es nur jeden empfehlen der Survival und Fantasy mag.^^

war am anfang mal ganz witzig allerdings wird absolut nichts mehr gemacht z.B. ist noch das Halloween Event von 2018 aktiv hahaha :)

Ein kurzes Fazit zu DaL. Das Spiel an sich ist super. Gute Grafik, usw. Aber... es ist, wie ich finde, schon nicht so einfach. Direkt wenn man aus der Stadt (in meinem Fall die der Elfen) heraus kommt, hat man es sofort mit höher lvl Mops und Gegnern zu tun. Pech ist, wenn man dann selbst noch ein kleineres Lvl hat. Selbst bei Ark habe ich nicht so oft ins Gras gebissen, wie bei DaL^^. Da sollte dringend noch mal nachgearbeitet werden. Das Spiel hat definitiv Potential, aber wenn man ständig mehr tot als alles andere ist, macht es nicht wirklich Fun.

kaum spielbar,mehr bugs als alles andere(z.b. bei jedem login im einzelspiel tot und inventar leer).habs gekauft als es rauskam,da wars schon nicht zu spielen.jahre später immernoch grottenschlecht.

This game has so much potential and they just stopped working on it...controls dont work, game info on how to do things is terrible, weapon controls suck, building isnt good...just such a waste, dead game

I agree with most of the other reviews. DON'T BUY THIS GAME! It has potential but the devs abandoned this game in favor of working on Atlas and then Snail Games bought them out and they have done nothing on this game either. They say it is still a work in progress, but with no updates in 2 years I have to assume they have no intention of returning to D&L anytime soon. They are just keeping this game on steam in order to get every penny out of it they can. It is a shame, really. This game had potential and was actually new and different.

This game is a lot more fun that I expected. There is a lot of crafting if you like that kind of thing, and quests to craft certain things, etc. I haven't gotten that far yet, but the only issues I've seen is sometimes a few of the enemies had a pathing issue. Well worth picking up on sale. It's also quite beautiful imo. The world is pretty awesome from what I've seen so far. You can kill much higher level enemies too if you do it carefully with magic, etc. I am just playing single player so far.

I honestly think the dev team should read this message if you guys don't want to finish the game at least consider sealing it to the creators of ark survival evolved so maybe the game can continue and bring more players in. i know damn well if more ark players played this they would love it. plz think about this for the small community that does love this game already

The game video is so exciting and intriguing and you immediately want to purchase it but I highly recommend you do not. This game has been in early access for a really long time and appears to have otherwise been abandoned by its developers. So instead of dreaming and await what would one day be the most phenomenal game, you are actually in the eternal void of unfinished game. I feel like a rule of selling an early access game you must have no more than a year left until its full release and it should be removed from sale and buyers refunded if the game gets abandoned or proven to be copyrighted.

I genuinely thought the game was new cause I had never heard of it before only to find out it has been abandoned for years now. This is actually the second abandoned game I have purchased from steam and I do wish they would verify the integrity of the games they sell on their platform. Nothing is more exciting than the steam winter sale and being able to buy a new game or too when you have a really teeny budget. So I am really sad that this game turned out like that. Unfortunately given tutorial time and difficulty you don't often see it within the 2 hour window steam requires for a refund. And I am that kind of person that leaves the game loaded when i go cook and sleep cause I be big unsmart sometimes.

But the jist is, DO NOT BUY THIS.

This game should be removed from being sold in the steam store so others don't make the same mistake.

It may be the ideal game I have always dreamt of but unfortunately it's not getting finished and no real update has been done in 2 years.

The game has a very interesting proposal, so interesting that it hurts not to be able to continue playing, the sound effects are extremely limited or non-existent, some animations are very raw, like the character jumping or the movement of some mobs, there are bugs like the staff that crashes the game, among many others.
If only it were still in development it would be a pleasure to play it, but unfortunately spending time on something that is broken and if we even have the possibility to aim for future improvements, it's sad. A shame indeed. I would like to play it longer.
Hoping for developers to get back to work on it.

O jogo tem uma proposta muito interessante, tão interessante que dói não poder continuar jogando, os efeitos sonoros estão extremamente limitados ou inexistentes, algumas animações estão muito cruas, como o pulo do personagem ou o movimento de alguns mobs, há bugs como o do cajado que trava o jogo, entre tantos outros.
Se ao menos ele estivesse ainda em desenvolvimento seria um prazer jogá-lo, mas infelizmente gastar tempo com algo que está quebrado e se quer temos a possibilidade de almejar melhorias futuras, é triste. De fato uma pena mesmo. Gostaria de jogá-lo por mais tempo.
Torcendo para que os desenvolvedores voltem a trabalhar nele.

It's extremely sad that the developers abandoned this game, which has the potential to become one of the best builders out there. Really, a shame that they didn't see this and decided to completely ignore this gem. At this state, don't buy it. Really, don't bother and reward the developers for abandoning it. Just don't.

Very very fun game. When the devs were actually updating it and putting forth effort.
Now?
Dead game. No one plays and devs are putting no effort into updates or patches for this game. Huge promises with no delivery. Save your money.

I played this game with a couple of friends. However, it is likely that this game has been abandoned by its developers. Their estimated time to get out of early access was way off the mark.

I cannot recommend this game in its current buggy and incomplete state.

the game is good if you can handle the bugs and lag this game could be really great but the devs have abandoned it so if i was you i wouldnt touch this with 5 foot pole because they arent fixing it anytime soon if you want something similar look at citadel forged in fire kinda like this game but way better

for those who like Ark you may like this game as well because it's Ark with magic. it's cool how they have different magic trees with different items in it BUT my biggest problem i have with this game is that it keeps crashing in my solo world. which makes it hard for me to play. plz come back devs plz make this game great like i know it can.

Abandoned by Snail Games sometime in last few years. Their website shows they are developing a new Dark and Light for mobile platforms. It's not clear if this will even get a North America release.
Buy it at your own risk as it is an unfinished game that will most likely never be finished.

I really like this game, probably more than ARK due to its mythical creature setting and magic, but it's an abandonded project. It hasn't had an update since well before Sept. 2020, and that was when they perma upped drops 2x.

It's abandonware at this point, don't bother unless you have a lot of other buddies to play an unfinished game in.

4 Hours in.
Its Ark with a different paint job.
So it seems to be more balanced.
Oddly runs better on my rig then Ark, I'd be curious to know if that is true for others.

It is in some ways more buggy, then Ark, and less buggy.
All and all I totally understand why it has mixed reviews, doubly so since it would seem the devs have abandoned the game.
I spent 6 bucks on it, I expect I'll get my 6 bucks worth out of the game.

Don't spend more then 6 bucks on it.
Nab it on sale if Ark is your thing, otherwise give it a pass.

Game is beautiful. No map, no path to find body, no walk though, broken armor and items lost after death. no way to get to your body exe. repeat killing your self in hopes of getting back to your corps. No ranged to speak of even after 8 levels. build a house put a box in it, no longer access the box. No gama adjustment. rotting items. game could be fantastic. Is not.

DO NOT give this company your money or waste you time on this game. If you spent money on it, even on sale. i highly suggest you pursue a refund.
i had almost 3000 hours in developing a max level character, max knowledge trees, almost max with all of the merchants for my faction. I tried to go to their new DLC for the knowledge trees an abilities they offer than return. because of a game bug my character vanished going between the dlc and original locations. i was just told by customer support ( and it is a NIGHTMARE to try reach customer support) they can not restore my character or knowledge. they have not updated this game in years or even posted. snail games has no interest in maintaining this game and steam needs to remove it so other individuals do not waste their time AND MONEY supporting a company that is doing nothing but collecting a paycheck from people that are unaware of the problems. they have no intention of fixing or improving anything. please do not submit yourself to the frustration and wasted time of in game bugs that have not been fixed since the game was first available until now. i played in the beginning and i have played since the dlc was released. Original bugs are still in the game and were never addressed and now there are all new ones which they have no intention of addressing. Both of the locations in the game have bugs and issues even without trying to go between them!

It's not even worth 3 euros.

Been baited by the screenshots, it's nothing, and I mean, NOTHING like what you see in the actual game. Feels like I've been taken back in time into the early 2010s. It's THAT bad.

You pick up resources by punching and running around, doesn't matter that you can't see the actual resources on the ground.

I punched a huge elk and it ran away.

Oh, and the game is dead, you won't find a servers with more than 2 players c:

Can't believe it's made by the same guys that made ARK. Thought it was an Asian game due to poor grammar but nope.

Having played Ark before, I could tell right away that a large part of the code base is likely the very same that is found in Ark. The progression feels more natural, especially since you don't have a hard limit on what you can learn. The interface is, without question, better then the one found in Ark, and the quest system is great for guiding you along, but beyond that, this game has a long list of issues.

Many items don't have descriptive text. The buildup is rather slow. It's a lot of farming for very little results, even after doubling the resource extraction rate. There are way too many items with spoil timers which just results in the items spoiling before you use them. I've basically decided to just not bother at all with those items which means that they might as well not exist. Early weapons break every few cycles of resource harvesting. It's just a never ending cycle that makes you feel like you aren't getting anywhere at all.

Let me start out by saying I'm currently playing this with new friends I've made in game. I'll probably continue to play for awhile.

That said. Do not buy this game if you think it's going to be developed further. It has officially been dumped by the development. They made an outright lie a few patches ago about how it's being reworked. It isn't.

It's got it's charms but it's such a bug ridden mess I gave up.

I got stuck in terrain exploring so had to suicide and I chose the respawn point in the house I just spent a day building. Respawned and 75% of my house dissolved around me and I pretty much lost it all.

Just no.... save yourself some grief.

This is ABANDON WARE - - - THIS GAME SUCKS - - - DON'T Buy it.

I got it as a gift and it is not worth the time I wasted trying to play it for free, The bugs that were in the game in 2016 are still there, the last patch in 2017 added new bugs. No development is being done. There will NEVER be any fixes. This is not in Alpha. This is abandoned.

I would give a more detailed review but the game constantly crashes and says that I need to update my video drivers. It has not been patched since 2017 or so. I have a Titan X and just updated my drivers 12/15/2020.
I can't play for more than 2 minutes before it crashes. Then I have to wait 5 to 7 more minutes for the server to realize that I am not still logged in to allow me to log back in and crash again after a minute or two.

What I did see was a very clunky character generator that looks like it was from 2007.

This game has been in early release since its initial release, which was now four years ago. That said, the player base is all but nonexistent, with 200 players at MAX at any given time (tick a few here and there). The game was fun at first, but then it just went incredibly down hill. It is a beautiful game, mind you. The graphics are gorgeous and the mounts are really cool, if you like spending 24 hours to tame a small dragon. This game had so much potential that was absolutely disregarded by the game studio, who will not say hide nor hair about what's upcoming.

If anything, the game studio should refund purchases for a game badly made, horrible lack of communication, and a complete disregard of its player base.

1.728 hours I have played this game. It's safe to say that it's my favorite game of all times. It saddens me deeply that the developers have given up on it. It had amazing potential. I am still hoping that one day they will pick it up again, polish it, fix it and release it fully, or at least do the right thing and make it a DLC for ARK.
All in all stay away from snail games, since they do this all the time with their games.
As for DnL, it's a great game, despite the bugs, despite the outdated mod kit, despite the lack of updates. It's mechanics are interesting and for an unfinished game, it has a lot of content to go through. I love the leveling system and the fact that you level up your skills by doing things relevant to them and not by stupid points that you have to decide where to put. You can be anything and everything, use sword and shield and insta change to magic. Tame flyers or land animals, evolve the elites. Specific animals have better gathering rates for specific resources. You can make your own base, although the building system needs a serious upgrade. I've made huge ass castles, with multiple lines of defense, I freaking love it.
It has everything a sandbox game should have, the only thing it's missing is a developing team that gives a shit.
You can do dungeons and make better gear that you cannot have otherwise, you can upgrade your gear through a system that makes sure that not everyone will make it.
The scaling system from your early game to mid to endgame is quite satisfying. But be prepared to grind for hours and hours.
I know people might say that I should give this game a bad rating just to punish the the uncaring developers but my love for it is too great and I would be doing more bad than good to DnL if I did this.
Buy this game, play it, give it some love, and hope that one day it will receive the same love from the people that are developing it.

Well after 5 hours playing with my son not encountered 1 bug yet either of us. It's basically Ark but with more to do (such as a lot of quests to follow to aid you) and magic as well as melee and more variety to monsters.

How this game is NOT packed to the rafters i really not sure yet, i hear it's due to a load of bugs and lack of support, but as with Conan bugs can be just as equally caused by people running games on machines that struggle to maintain good FPS (commonly causes issues with geometry this) as it does the actual game.

For 7 quid i have already got my monies worth, But i have a feeling this game likely was very buggy etc, but looks in good shape to me now, but the damage to it's reputation has been done.

A shame because in it's current state this game now looks cracking and playable, certainly the early game anyhow.

1) Don't believe the developer statement that this game continues to be developed. None of the existing players I have spoken to have seen any form of development in over a year.
2) There are many bugs and no fixes seen for a year.
3) This means that the statement by the developers that the product is being worked on is false, it's false advertising.
4) The game itself is a fairly decent sandbox. You will get glitches that kill you, lose or damage your gear etc. but it can still be rewarding. If you like sandbox games in general, you will probably like this.
5) There are some very annoying/lazy coding failures that let other players steal expensive items such as mystical feed.

Overall, as it is cheap, you will probably get your monies worth but be ready for annoying and frustrating bugs.

Really is to bad this one had so much potential but it was just plagued with game breaking bugs early on and it just never really went any where and the dev team seemed to just give up somewhere along the way which i don't have a problem with if they stopped trying to sell it once they gave up. This is a terrible game with a lot of potential. Unfortunately, it gets no updates, so that potential is lost. Unless you have a lot of technical experience and desire, if you want to play a private game with friends, forget it. If you want to play solo, it could be fun. For a private coop experience, forget it unless you want to spend time con figuring a server.

Bought this game yesterday and have played until level 15. So far the experience is enjoyable and intuitive. Expansive terrain lots of helpful quests fun leveling and combat mechanics. However some of the animations and terrain feel a little delayed or clunky. Overall for the cost of the game and early access nature I think its an excellent product. Far better than others like it that typically sell for higher value.

Update, now level 38 and game is still kick ass, really enjoying this. Tier two spellcrafting is a little difficult. if this could be made easier by a increase of elemental core drops that'd be cool.

I was a bit skeptical of this game, but for the price it has offered many hours of game play. The building is not as detailed as i would like, but the climb toward getting the skills to build is decent. Where this game really shines is how the taming system works. Having to tire out the creature, while trying not to die in most cases, is really fun. I think the cobwebs used for taming is way OP, and makes it to easy. If you want a challenge don't use the webs. All in all for the price is was definately worth the price.

First things first, don't listen to any reviews who say this game is abandoned. As of oct 3 2020 the devs are still working on the game. The people saying its abandoned don't pay attention to dev streams or dev news. 2nd yes this game is buggy its early access its to be expected.

Now onto the actual review. if your looking for a game like ark that is,
1 cheaper,
2 has less bugs,
and 3 loads faster this is your game. this game also implements many needed features that ark only gets if you mod it. Please give this game a try before listening to people who are to self absorbed to pay attention to the updates being pushed out.

This game had the potential to be something great. Being able to explore beautiful landscapes, tame creatures and explore lore - with base building and survival elements - got me really excited. As an avid survival-genre sandbox gamer, I wanted this game to succeed. It didn't.

The game has many, many bugs and glitches. Getting attached to your tames and levelling them is a huge mistake as you will eventually lose them to a glitch and likely not in a glorious fight with a ferocious fiend (which is how it should be).

The lure of renting a home in a town or city falls away quickly when you realise you can't place any furniture inside, or at least, only one small chest awkwardly near the entrance. And it's not like it's pre-furnished. It's just an ugly, barren room that you don't want to return to in a hurry.

All in all, the game is filled with bugs and glitches that destroy any excitement or perceived immersion you might feel watching a trailer or seeing the screenshots. The quest rewards are disappointing - something akin to finding a PlayStation 1 in PlayStation 5 packaging.

Save your money and go play outside.

In the meantime, if you already own ARK, go do that instead.

This game was horrible. As a starting character there is no where to rest since you need to wait until you can craft a bed or something. No where to store extra items until you can craft storage boxes. No real place to sell stuff unless you have a lot of something. I was also randomly killed by a level 130 guard when gathering items in the starting town. Starting area has level 30+ monsters right outside the gate and there is no map showing you where you should even go to kill the creatures you need to kill for the objectives. There are also several graphical glitches as well. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone, even on sale.

I wouldn't recommend this game based on when I played it. I should have done a review then. I played for 23 hours total over the course of a few days. I wanted to get it refunded I thought it was so bad, but I couldn't because I kept it too long. Really frustrating, this was a waste of money. I'm re-installing it to see if they fixed some of the issues.

My experience as I recall it:
Monster spawns were completely out of control! I love a challenge, don't get me wrong. I like having to struggle my way through something difficult. But, the spawn rate was so bad that I would get overwhelmed by 4-6 monsters at a time. Keep in mind, in the very beginning going toe-to-toe with a single monster (depending on what it is) can be challenging. Going against a freaking flying monster that can hit you from afar when you have nothing you can use to reach it and you can't out run it and it spawns IMMEDIATELY outside of the starter town is just stupid. I found myself constantly huddled up to safe zone guards, kiting the big bads back to the guards just so I could get out somewhere to find some new resources... Armor breaks extremely quickly and is excessively difficult to come by.

Now, I'm sure that if you somehow manage to get yourself well established none of these challenges are a big issue. But, for a first introduction to the game starting with nothing at all?... jeeze come on.

Abandonware ? Almost. The last substantive update was nearly a year ago. I liked the premise of the game but for what ever reason the Dev's decided to ignore this software and move on. No idea why they placed it on sale unless it is just a money grab to support another project. I would suggest not wasting money on this title until they actually do some more work on the game (Update to fix major problems and lack of content)

I would not recommend this game in its current state. I wanted to like it, I really did, and there are aspects that are promising. The glitches are manageable, however the combat with monsters/creatures doesn't make any sense. I can easily defeat something level 40 but died eight times in a row to something that's level 12?

I'll cross my fingers and hope that maybe one day they'll work on it some more, but until then, I can't see myself playing it again as is.

Despite this game being in Early Access, it seems that the devs aren't working on it anymore.

As far as the game sits now, it's buggy at times, graphical, combat, and movement wise, and is just a pain in the ass to play. There doesn't seem to be a great deal of content to it either.

I love the concept of this game, and it has the potential to be great, if things were fixed, added, and ironed out, but as it sits now it's not worth spending money on.

I sincerely hope the code overhaul improves the parts of this game that are lacking and brings more people in. It's a fantastic game, and a fantastic concept. It's a bit buggy (running uphill for example), but it has so much potential, and I've enjoyed it a lot so far.

Game started out as a promising Fantasy Ark, turned into abandonware. Dont be fooled by the pretty trailer or the fancy GIF on the store page, game looks nothing like that in actuality.

It is at best an Ark total conversion using Ark EA coding.

Last update was almost a year ago, meanwhile they have updated Atlas several times since, so you know where the priorities lie.

Game had little to no content worth playing the last time I played (2018) and has no updates since then that have brought me back.

I loved this game. I remember building a pack of wolves that would wander around the lands surrounding my tower. Every now and then I would see them and they would be a few levels higher. I remember being actually scared going from one place to another. I remember the grim reapers, these towering super powerful creatures that would come at night and just destroy everything. I remember exploring new places, new creatures. I think it was put together pretty well. I know a lot of people are upset that it appears the devs abandoned the game, but on day 1 the game was playable and I had zero complaints outside of some performance issues inside a few place. Visit the giant tree... so large you can see it across the map. Go visit the volcano, or the floating islands. The sheer variety of environments across the map... really well done.

There is no balance to enemies. There is no zoning. Almost ALL of the quests which give XP so you're not grind farming require you to be on the red planet (there was no way of knowing this before starting either so you'll waste 20-50 hours before you realize you've made a mistake). The game is buggy- but it's not the bugs that will destroy your desire to play the game, it's the sheer audacity of a level 10 monster that one shots you for 500+ damage that then just camps on top of your corpse. If you don't play with teammates, then expect it to take forever to finish anything, and while it seems like armor has some use, you will note that you can and will be one shot by a wild array of enemies with what appears to be an arbitrary slider bar on it's threat level. Game is beautiful, but abandoned. And while abandoned isn't a deal breaker for a game- there's very little to enjoy here after the 10th + time of having to restart everything you've done because you can't keep the objects you collect because of the murder mobs.

Untouched, no updates, no new content you pay for nothing and the stock game is buggy, without much to offer.
You cant refund this, this game was legit made to make money its a cool concept and its fun, but the developers seem to have dropped it.

dont buy it until things change or you are just wasting money.

Tried to play online and people have build foundations everywhere so I can't even start playing. Then tried to play solo and guess what game won't let me build anywhere except where I get swarmed by creatures that kill me in a few hits.

I genuinely really enjoy this game. I've been following it since it's release and I downloaded it shortly after.
If you're wondering what this game is like: Ark but MUCH more creative and with tons of mythical creatures instead of dinosaurs.
What's the beginning of the game like? Well, you learn a TON. The game doesn't hold your hand and strictly tell you how to get everything but it does a good job of helping you become independent. You start off having to harvest with your hands then crafting etc.
Yes, there are bugs, but every game has bugs.
What most excites me about this game is the entire idea of it. They've brought together Ark, which is already everyone's childhood fantasy, and expanded it into the mythological realm. You find different races, populated cities with NPCs and guards (Ark could NEVER). Base building is almost identical to Ark. Taming is slightly different in the sense that you use arrows with essentially rope attached to exhaust the creature and have to craft a taming trough to insert food for it.
Even the gameplay is more immersive! You have to time your attacks perfectly to dodge any enemy attacks and roll away from danger. The spells feel amazing to use and there are multiple combat styles. The creativity and variety of creatures and locations is astonishing. The views are beautiful.
It's just a shame that people don't play this game because a few others complain about the bugs that EVERY game has.

Pros:
- Beautiful Game
- Gameplay and action is amazing (dodging taming etc)
- Wide variety of creatures (almost all tameable)
- Elemental creatures and bosses and special events (like Krampus for Christmas and Halloween events)
- Multiple fighting styles
- Huge world with gorgeous locations (countless places to visit and sky islands as well as ice caves and dragons to tame)
- Cheap and (in my opinion) most of the bugs have been fixed.
- Only going to expand

Cons:
- Not many players
- Still buggy
- Game doesn't hold your hand through every step (but Steam community does a good job of helping, I've been using it a lot)
- No map to tell you where you are (can cast a spell to show you but that's it)
- Tasks (side missions) sorta don't make sense: for example, asking you to craft a house seal at a low level when you need Iron bars to craft it but unlock those at much higher level. So you basically can't complete the mission until after you've unlocked the other things for it.

Overall: Still needs work (obviously bc it's in development) but people are too picky to give it a try. If you enjoyed ARK and love mythological creatures, I guarantee you won't be disappointed. SO many places to explore in the game and so many creatures to tame.
I play in my own solo world just to learn everything at my own pace but I think it's really worth it.

It's a solid game, some bugs but overall if you like survival games like ARK, you'll enjoy it. The fantasy spin is fun. There could be a better crafting mechanism for getting recipes. Some of the items don't equip from the hotbar but since it's in early access I gave that a pass. The creatures are all over the place level wise, hard to know if you're going to come across a L8 or a L80. That could be better

It's Ark, but in a fantasy setting with magic. Game isn't necessarily bad, it is actually kinda fun. With that said, I got this game roughly 2 years ago, and very little has been added to the game in that time. The game has been abandoned (i think?) due to the devs not updating the game or communicating with their customers since November of 2019. Its kinda sad because the game has a high potential. Until any meaningful updates come to the game, I would recommend looking elsewhere.

This game has a lot going for itself in the current state that it's in. There is plenty to do and lots of ground to explore. However the world is a little barren at times will little to no creatures or animals spawning, rendering most of the map worthless. There are tons of bugs which can be down right frustrating such as low slopes being unable to walk on. Not to mention all the typos like dupe text and
I do enjoy the leveling up system and how you have to earn knowledge to make things (i.e magic items , weapons, armour, etc.). It beats the 'unlock level, unlock knowledge AND buff your character' So there is a lot to work on. Although, on vanilla settings. It is a REAL grind and by then most would of given up or gotten bored. But it's not unheard of, most games require you to work your butt off these days so I would recommend private servers with higher settings.

Would I recommend this game? Yes, if you are patient and go in with the knowledge this game is bug infected and want some silly fun and enjoy building.

This is a fun game and it should be better than it is. The developers who now own it stopped working on the game a long time ago. Despite promises to the contrary there has been no fixes and the lastest patch was nothing more than temporary content for Halloween 2019. That said servers running this game are few and far between, I did find one about a week ago and yesterday they posted that they were shutting down their Dark and Light servers. So that leaves me without a server to play on. Supposedly you can play offline but that doesn't function correctly either so don't bother trying. I can't recommend the game or the developers due to the greed they show by still selling the game but not bothering to do any work on it. So I will no longer purchase anything from Snail games because they will probably just rip me off again.

I'm an ARK player. I've got around 2500 hours in ARK. If you like ARK , chances are you are going to love this, just give it a chance, don't quit after 2-3 hours of trying.

The game has it's bugs , but they are not so different from ark bugs. I find the graphics beautiful , taming is a bit different, but spells make this game very interesting.

I'd put between Ark and Atlas by quality but closer to ark. The game is not dead, I suggest playing it with at least one or two friends.

A real pity as the game is visually stunning and the setting appeals more to me than ARK (this is basically an earlier version of the ARK engine with a lot of straight cut & paste assets - they remodelled quite a few creatures but largely they just add features that pre-existed in Ark and call it a new feature; like Wolf pack behaviour).

Snail Games is a terrible developer - they don't do sufficient Q&A before releasing patches, their communication is *utterly* atrocious; several times in the early days the Chinese parent company would just push a patch without any announcement or patch notes (read 99% of patches were like this) and then the 'Snail Games USA' guys would wake up and have no clue what was going on, it just became a PR exercise to placate all the angry players affected by the damage. During the 'development' of DnL they launched 2-3 other straight ports of the ARK license in ARK: Park, Ark VR and Pixark - when they did this, the patching of DnL (which is still extremely buggy and unfinished) slowed and eventually stopped outright.

Now they have GM's from their support team freely admitting that development of this game is on hold indefinitely, in-spite of no announcement etc. to at least have the decency to tell the customer-base (see above note about their poor communication).

After playing this game for over 1200 hours and being let down by the worst developers I have ever had the misfortune to deal with, I guess its time to give my experience. STAY AWAY from this game at all costs! The developers don't care about the players and the suffering their garbage game is causing. The game had/has potential to be great but the developers are a joke and never add any new content and never fix any of the endless bugs and exploits.

I lost everything on a max level character on a PvP server to Chinese hackers and exploiters even though I had massive base defenses. I had multiple of each of the supposed strongest base defenses and they had all of my stuff by the time I got back from work. I won't say how they did it to protect the players that are still suffering playing this game on PvP servers. The developers didn't do anything about it and gave a canned response about being sorry this happened to me, have a good day.

I started over on a PvE server and the problems continued. I have had multiple bases full of gear and tames disappear in a blink of an eye. If for some reason you can't log into the game you will instantly lose your lower tier base. I found no way of knowing what happened to the tames because the game is not user friendly at all regarding things like this.

You will not have many places to build because players with claim all of the land by placing columns everywhere which will not allow you to place any building structures. I have a jackass that placed Stone columns all over the area around the Dwarven City and guess what the developers won't do anything to stop it.

The most recent issue I had which prompted me to write this review is I was not able to log in to save my lower tier base (stone) in time before it decayed. I was standing in the open field all by myself where my original base was located. Everything was gone including 3 max level flyers and multiple other useful tames. I went to my main Dwarven Manor base which I recently started to move into and everything was there except the one tame I had living there was gone. This tame was my refrigerator Ice Element where I kept my expensive Mythical Feed as well as other rare feeds ($250,000 gold value if bought in shop). I don't know how he would have just disappeared so this is a prime example of how buggy this game is. The developers didn't give a damn when I contacted them and gave the usual canned response. They were unable to explain the cause of these issues. Just clueless about their own game is all.

The game is full of hidden spots to get stuck in and you will never get out without killing yourself. The whole back half of the Dwarven and Elven castles are death drops into the bottom of the map. Half of the tames are under the map and I have actually tamed a max level tame under the map.

I could easily go on and on about the problems with this game but I have said far more than I wanted to. The bottom line is the game is very broke and the developers will not fix any of it. I really wish they would sell the game to a better established company because I really like certain things about the game. This review is for potential buyers so you don't make the same mistakes many of us have. BUYER BEWARE!

They need to finish the game. It will be a great game once its finished...if its ever finished.

Buggy without any fixes in years.
A mod/dev kit that hasnt been updated since 2018.
A development team with a track record of scamming their customers and linked to the Chinese Government

This is one of those companies that literally the world would be a much better place if they just went out of business.

My last review was somehow removed.... i played way back on initial release, and had a ton of fun but the game has been abandoned.

Most Servers have been shut down.

Updates do not come.

The Developers that gave a crap (HorseJoke and Erebus) are long gone from the project.

DO NOT purchase for more than 2.99$ it can be fun but is not worth full price at all.

Just search Steam DNL player count on google to see.

Official Snail games forums were shut down

Steam forums are nearly dead and mostly necro'd posts.

So many bugs that have been consistently tested/reported on by player base but never fixed.

Dead game simple.
