A.R.E.S.: Extinction Agenda is the first chapter in a full featured episodic hardcore action packed side scrolling platformer, in the traditions of retro classics, where you play as Ares, a combat robot created for the sole purpose of saving humanity. Can you live up to the task or will you be reduced to nuts and bolts?
You are Ares, the first Zytron immune robot. A symbol of how far human technology has come, you are the most advanced robot in existence; built to run faster, jump higher, and fire quicker. In addition to these core attributes, your design includes a system for converting spare parts and resources into valuable items, armor, and weaponry. You will need to use everything at your disposal in order to reach and rescue the survivors aboard the Zytron infected space station.

Play through various locations in the A.R.E.S. universe, each a beautiful, unique, 3D environment with challenging obstacles.
You are the ultimate weapon with the ultimate sidekick ? Collect the secret items and get power up to become a perfect weapon.
Come face to face with colossal opponents, learn their patterns to defeat them in battle.
Destroy enemies, collect their parts, and then recycle them to make incredible items, including health packs, ammo, and weapon upgrades.

Ein traditioneller Shooter, der nicht viel neu macht. Am Anfang fühlte es sich noch etwas behäbig an, mit den zusätzlichen Waffen und der Suit, die man später freischaltet, wird es dann aber auch etwas interessanter. Als es richtig los ging, war es aber auch schon wieder vorbei. Allerdings lassen sich Waffenupgrades und Fähigkeiten mit in den nächsten Durchlauf nehmen, was durchaus zu einer zweiten Runde einlädt.

Was mich etwas gestört hat war die stellenweise unpräzise Steuerung. Die Bosse fand ich etwas schwer durchschaubar, meist waren sie aber schon besiegt, bevor ich den Durchblick hatte (es gibt aber auch noch einen schwereren Modus).

Ansonsten... Ist ein OKes Spiel, dass ich schon seit Jahren in Bibliothek hatte. Mittlerweile gibt es noch eine Neuauflage des Spiels mit mehr Content und einige Verbesserungen. Daher sollte man sich vermutlich das Geld für diese Version eher sparen und die neue holen, wenn man Bock auf einen Shooter hat.

+ schicke Optik die an Mega Man erinnert
+ schönes Leveldesign
+ passender Retro Soundtrack
+ Schwierigkeitsgrad anpassbar

- oft ist zu viel los auf dem Bildschirm
- unbedingt ist ein Controller erforderlich wegen der Steuerung
- die Story ist nicht so gelungen
- Zwischensequenzen können nicht übersprungen werden
- kurze Spielzeit

A.R.E.S ist kein Weltklasse Game, es ist gut für einmal spielen, mehr nicht. Alleine durch die kurze Spielzeit (nicht alles gesammelt) und die einfache Story, gebt das wieder. Typischer Sidescroller mit Boss Gegner.

Dieses Spiel ist einfach nicht gut.
Die Jump and Run parts sind sehr schlecht mit dieser Steuerung. Sie ist total ungenau.
Und manche Zwischenbosse! sind einfach nicht schaffbar, da diese den Spieler mit 3 Treffer tötet. Diese kann man auch nicht ausweichen da diese viel zu schnell sind.

Auf den ersten Blick interessant, auf den zweiten Blick verbuggt und schwer.

Die Tastatur optimierung ist schrecklich, der Einstieg ist zu langweilig und zu überladen das Spiel von der Länge her dann aber wieder zu kurz.

Es hat einige Anläufe gebraucht bis ich mich durchringen konnte mehr als das erste Level zu spielen.
Ihr könnt es mögen, ihr könnt es hassen.

Ihr solltet aber Interesse an dem Genre haben, denn sonst wird das hier nichts.

+ Detalierte Umgebungen
+ Retro Soundtrack
+ herausfordernder Schwierigkeitsgrad zum anpassen

Gefällt mir nicht:
- in einigen Kämpfen zu überladenden
- Schlechte Maus und Tastatur Steuerung (Empfehle Xbox Controller)
- Schlechte Story
- nicht überspringbare Zwischensequenzen
- geringer Umfang
- ca. 4 Stunden Spielzeit

A.R.E.S.: Extinction Agenda ... Es ist sehr sehr wie Megaman, nur mit einer Two-Stick Steuerung. Also ist es dymanischer im Kampf. Es ist an sich auch nicht das längste Spiel allerzeiten, aber ich hatte Spaß. An und an kann man das mal 10-20 Minuten spielen, wenn man mal Zeit tot schlagen muss.

It's mostly 'meh' with a handful of utter frustration thrown in. There are better Mega-Man clones out there, go play one of those.

A.R.E.S is a fun side-scrolling platformer, kinda like Megaman games (the first thing it made me thought of). It provided some decent challenge (at least if you play on Hard difficulty) and the storyline was a pass. You unlock 4 weapons throughout the game which you can upgrade into stronger versions, 5 levels each with its own boss, so the whole game was fairly short and could be finished within 3-4 hours. Although, there is a lot of replayability value if you want to upgrade all your weapons, find all the secrets and get perfect SS score on each level, and other things that are listed in the achievements.

For $5, I'd say the game wasn't bad and definitely worth trying. However, I do want to point out that there is a similar game called A.R.E.S: Extinction Agenda EX which is available for $5 extra (if you already own this game) and is apparently an improved version of this game with more content. I haven't got to play the EX version yet, but I'd say that this game has at least earned my recommendation.

The universe in peril from a malevolent AI and all the other heroes won’t answer the phone? Better send in someone who has finished this game then, they surely know how to kick butt.

This game is a great example of a 2D ish shooter. The controls are tight; the story is pretty good and even though not fleshed out it left me wanting more. The enemies are diverse and can be tricky to overcome if on the harder difficulties. There are also enough challenges to keep you coming back for more and possibly enough to play through a few times just to complete everything.

One of the many positive notes that really stands out is the soundtrack which is pretty awesome. The weapons are fun to use although with the limited in-game economy their upgrade options are a little stunted, still nice to have though.

I would recommend this game for anyone who has a few hours to kill and wants to spend them blowing away robots. If it’s on sale it is a 100% must buy.

A.R.E.S. is a great 2D platforming shooter. It's reminescent Super Metroid or Mega Man X. You aim with the mouse, which I was hesitant about at first, but it makes aiming and shooting more fluid than other 2D shooters.

My only complaints are that it's fairly short (around 3 hours), and platforming can be frustrating before you get the suit upgrade.
