  • Neues Gameplay: Ein Leben, zwei Seelen.

Already played this game on PS so I can say this is not the same experience at all. So many bugs and glitches. It is a joke for the pc users to expect to enjoy this. The immersive experience gets lost at so many points. I even had to restart at certain checkpoints because some characters got stuck by themselfs. Additionally the controls for Keyboard and Mouse are crappy as f*ck. Dont buy this game without a gamepad or just buy a copy of it, originally for Playstation or Xbox.

Klasse Spiel.

Now, after too many years of waiting to play this masterpiece, I finally found it on Steam and bought it just instantly. Quantic Dream created with Beyond not just a regular stereotype story game, but a masterpiece that's looking for its equal. The Story is very emotional, intense and very exciting. At some points the given freedom of choice isn't really there, but that's not a problem because at these points the named choices  wouldn't make any sense, so it's fine for me. Over all, for me this is a game everybody should play and love. Good Job  Quantic Dream !!!

Neugierig geworden? Lies weiter…

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2550610496

Zwei Welten

(Ca 20-30 h in Summe) Es sind keinerlei Szenen in irgendeiner Form überspringbar, was sehr viel Zeit kostet.

+ Hervorragende originale Sprachausgabe
+ Verschiedene Sprachen und Untertitel kombinierbar
+ Tolle Grafik und Animationen durch Motion Capture
+ Spannende Geschichte
+ Viele unterschiedliche Orte
+ Interessantes Spielkonzept mit Mensch & Geist
+ Guter Soundtrack
+ Einige sehr emotionale Momente und Entscheidungen
+ Solide Spieldauer
+ Wählbare Kapitel nach dem Abschließen des Spiels
+ Boni: Konzeptzeichnungen & Making Of freischaltbar
+ Unkomplizierte Steuerung
+ Gemischte Erzählweise erzeugt zusätzlich Spannung
+ Optional chronologische Reihenfolge spielbar
+ Coole Kampf-Action und Stealth Abschnitte
+ Kostenloser DLC
+ Unterschiedliche Enden
+ Keine Crashes, absolut stabil
+ Optionaler Coop-Modus (1x Geist / 1x Jodie)
+ Extra einfacher Schwierigkeitsgrad mit Richtungsangabe bei QTEs

KONTRAs

- Sehr viel vorgegaukelte Entscheidungsfreiheit
- Fehlende Konsequenzen

Negativer Punkt: Durchgespielt in 10 Stunden.

    (english below)

    Wow, was ein tolles Spiel!

    ----

(sorry for the poor english, i'm not a native speaker ;) )

    WoW, what a ride!
After the fact, that this game was only available for console, its finale here for PC.

What a rollercoaster ride for an adventure. In the game, you will play Jody (who is excellent played by actress Ellen Page), a girl with paranormal skills. Your mentor Nathan is played by the wonderfull William Dafoe.

Through the game, each episode is a different phase from her life, playing her in a really young age, a rebellious teenager or as an adult woman. Sometimes these episodes are chilled, sometimes pure action. Often they are very melancholic, sometimes funny, some make you sad - especially the homeless chapter amazes me, because the emotions between the different characters are so well balanced.

Through the game you will travel to different locations the laboratory, wehre she lives, africa or the american desert - everything comes to life quit well.

Despite the fakt, that this game is from 2013, the graphic is still pretty good, especially the different character models from Jody (at least 30 different in the game)

The only thing, that annoyed me was the controls. Its obvious, that the game was made for console, so the controls (keyboard+mouse) sucked a lot, but luckily the game is very forgiving when you fail in a quicktime event.

Personaly, for me, this is a game which comes very close to Life is strange (which i adore).

The game is very emotional, you are very fast close to Jody and her feelings. The immersion is intens. You feel joy when she is happy und you feel sad when she is. Its nearly up to you can feel her pain when she gets hurt.

    I absolutly love this game!

Good game with decent story but didn't grip me like Heavy Rain. Just felt like a generic supernatural story. It's still worth giving a try though...

The game is wonderful, and I highly recommend it. Your choices affect the story, however, it tries very hard to hide this from you causing the story to feel railroaded even when it is not. Just keep an open mind while playing and be proactive about your gameplay, as the game will not make every option or choice obvious to you. Play the game blind and do what you want to do. Don't try to min-max your decisions, and instead immerse yourself in the story and work with it. This game does what it should and does not just gamify a movie, instead allowing the player to control the story, giving an experience unique to gaming. If you are on the fence you should try the demo to get a good feel for what you can expect from the game.

Beyond: Two Souls was a game that I've been looking forward to playing since the day it came out but not having a PS3 back then didn't help at all. So, I played the demo somehow and watched couple of videos about it and I instantly fell in love with it. I finally got around playing it since it came out to PC and I wish I could return to time where I was an ignorant teenager who has no capability of understanding the plotholes and inconsistencies. That could've also helped with the void I've felt after finishing the story due to not being able to feel like how I felt about it back then. I'll write down what I feel about it...

Unlike Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls presents a great acting thanks to Hollywood stars with exceptional acting skills. However, it fails to deliver a powerful impact but it ultimately delivers what was intended. It's an emotional experience of a girl called Jodie who has a link with an entity called Aiden since birth and this entity is capable of possessing, healing and killing people as well as interacting with the environment. The dramatic story of Jodie for having a link with an entity that she doesn't have any control over and the anomalies caused due to presence of him is being handled perfectly. The price she has to pay for something she isn't responsible is heartbreaking. However, the focus shifts from Aiden really fast and most of the chapters show what happens to Jodie because of Aiden. There are only three chapters that we get to see Aiden at his full potential and one of them is a DLC. It's not a bad thing of course but the balance between Jodie's emotional state and Aiden's origins is not being handled properly. The story is also not being presented in a chronological order which makes things a bit confusing but I think it's alright since we witness every part of Jodie's life from her childhood to adulthood. There is an option to play the story in chronological order, but I wouldn't recommend it.

Since it's an interactive movie, cutscenes naturally exceed gameplay and there aren't as many QTEs as Heavy Rain. However, there are stealth sections that give you full control over both Jodie and Aiden and the approach to the situation at hand is entirely up to you. This is what I meant by Aiden's full potential. You only get to see what he's capable of during these sections and sadly, there aren't many of them. Maybe it's just me. Maybe I wanted more gameplay rather than watching most of the time but it doesn't change the fact that Aiden's capabilities weren't really explored or presented outside of these sections.

The last thing I'd like to point out is that David Cage needs to learn how to write a proper romance between characters. I've played three games by him thus far and the romance between the characters didn't make any sense in all three of them. They felt awkward and forced. It is also obvious that he is fascinated by the supernatural elements but he is very bad at using them. There are inconsistencies here and there but thankfully, Beyond isn't as bad as Fahrenheit when it comes to that regard.

What an awesome Quantic Dream's game!!

It's a fantastic and a really captivating story, like playing an interactive supernatural movie and have multiple endings. The voice acting is really good , the graphics even in 2022 are still very decent and the port runs well, definitely better if you play it with a controller.
I've enjoyed a lot playing this game, it shook me emotionally like having a lump in the throat and keep me captivated until the end.

A masterpiece, absolutely worth it to give it a try.

    Very good game.
Quite exciting fun , has intrigue good stories has it all.
Some chapters will blow you away as they are so unbelievable.
    Quick tips.
Just figured out the mouse action by lowering the sensitivity to around 25% in windows.
    ingame at 50%.
Learn to recognise you need to follow the white dot L/mouse and Left shift,
Drag and hold L/mouse to Left or right up or down , Can also just tap it left right up down..
Important: Use the numbers 1.2.3.4 not the numlock,
When you see flashing 1 tap it constantly.
Replay the first couple of chapters to learn how to use these keys . And beat the tests you will master them quicker and not rage quit.
    Honetly its really good.

I would love to recommend this game; however, it is unplayable.
The controls are abysmal that I have rage quit five times, and I've only managed under two hours.

If I were the only person to have this problem, I would not be giving a review about this. I have, nonetheless, seen the staggering amount of people complaining about both the 'controller' and the 'keyboard and mouse' controls.

I've wanted this game for ages after seeing some gameplay back when it first came out; unfortunately for me, I did not have a PS3 or PS4. Nevertheless, when I heard that the game was being ported to the PC, I thought I was in luck. I left it for two years to allow bugs to be fixed either by the Devs or the community. So when I noticed this in a Humblebundle, how I could not pick it up.

So when the game loads for the first time, you go through an initialisation. I started by trying it with K+M. Then you are asked if you want to play: original (How it was originally intended to be played) or remixed (play it in chronological order); I chose the original playthrough.

The first thing I notice when you gain control is how cumbersome the controls feel, but I get over it, for the most part, that is, until you get to a part in the story where you get a prompt for mouse movements (tho you don't get told this) and no matter what I do I fail them. Which I find odd, then a little while later, you are at what I can only believe is the actual 'tutorial'. Let me tell you, I can not work out HOW you do this. Sometimes I would get the movement right, then other times, doing the same things, I would fail. So after rage quitting, I take a break and come back with my Xbox 360 controller and try again. Again, I am some, however, failing to do the movements correctly and rage quit once more.

After that second rage quit, I checked to see if I was an idiot, missing something, or the controls were this bad. As it turns out, a LOT of people are complaining about the controls. I did come across some suggestions on how to deal with it (things like turning down/up your mouse sensitivity or inverting the controls), but they resulted in my last three rage quits.

    I've decided to take another break from the game and wait to see if any of the posts I've made or am watching get any responses to help with this problem. I can't believe that the game has such unreliable controls, nor can I believe there is not a fix out there; why? Well, let me put this into perspective;

Initially released on 8 October 2013 for PS3.
    Then re-release on 24 November 2015 for PS4.
Then finally released on 22 July 2019 for the PC.

So for a game that has been out for over eight years and on PC for over two, I can not believe it could have such good reviews with such poor controls. If I discover a fix or even find it, I can suddenly use the controls how they want; then, I will update this.

However, as I said initially, I can not recommend this game with such poor controls.

Two souls - together after so many years

This... this game is something that I had to experience again...

After so many years and PS3 console I had to go through all this.

    It was well worth it.

Now I will not speak about general things... The graphics are great, the sound too, the controls are controversial in some situations, but the most important thing in all the games that Quantic Dream has made is the...

    ...STORY.

The story touches on many things, things that are part of the world around us. All of this will be spoiler free as much as possible.

This game is a story about growing up, a childhood without a childhood, a story about what it is like to be alone and special in a world where compassion is in the last place. This is a story about what it is like to be alone and left to yourself even when you think good intentions exist.

This is a world where politics and interest are the main thing, the thing that drives everything. There the individual as such is totally irrelevant and all emotions are there only as a means to achieve the ultimate goal.

    https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2651650807

    Hope never dies

David Cage had always hope and faith in humanity in his games, even though the world around us often speaks differently. Ambition and selfishness are what always hinder people and prevent us from moving forward. Throughout history, we have witnessed too many times how individuals push the whole world over the edge because of personal ideas and interests. In all this, the life of an ordinary person has always been just a statistic. This game offers a different view of everything and puts us in the role of a girl who puts emotions and love before profit, life before politics, money and influence.

Today, such things are unfortunately a rarity, but I still live and believe in a better world.

    https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2632745167

After all things, after the story of growing up, training and the system of which you become a part ... After madness, personal ambitions and aspirations, you understand the point of everything... the point of LIFE.

There is nothing in this world that is more important than sincerity and sincere intentions to help others. It’s easy to do negative things, it’s easy to be greedy and think only of yourself, but each of us at least sometime in life gets into a situation where he needs help - whether it’s a family, a health problem or a problem that shakes the foundations of your life... then in such moments we realize that we have made mistakes all the time.

And then in such moments we simply change.

    https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2654663379

Such moments in life are something priceless and something we will remember forever. I have had moments like that, and now, after all these years, I know that is the meaning of life.

So experiences like this game are something invaluable - something that has the potential for each of us to think about and become a better person.

And because of that, there is nothing left but to wholeheartedly recommend this game. This is the narrative perfection that everyone should experience and apply to their life.

    Masterpiece.

I love this game. It has a great story, some amazing mechanics that are unique and fun to use. One issue that drives me nuts is the camera being half fixed when it suits it and dragging your screen wherever it wants when this is essentially a stealth game a lot of the time! you can use Aiden to look around, true, but when you are about to attack or there are multiple enemies sometimes you just need to be able to face somewhere other than the wall youre hiding behind to check your surroundings again quickly. Also, because of the nature of the story, you end up in loads of locations you are only in once, and the game expects you, in a hurry, to perform tasks and find doorways or stairs, all while facing the wrong way walking around. It can be super annoying. Heavy rain had similar BUT you could use ctrl to switch angles which SOMETIMES (not often) helped a bit, This doesnt give that option though that I could see. Fixed camera angles work for horror at moments when there are limited ways to go and they just want to up the anticipation, but when youre in a high stakes mission there is no place for fixed cam imo. If this was free cam like a normal modern game it would be pretty close to perfect.

If you liked Heavy Rain, you will probably like this game too. It has the same style of branching stories based on your actions and choices. I'd say Quantic Dream improved the controls/gameplay for this. The gameplay itself is very basic and can still be clunky, but the camera is a bit better than Heavy Rain.

I really wish cut scenes were skippable upon replay, though...

The plot was really cool and exciting, but the filler arcs were pretty tedious at times. Some of them felt never ending. The most boring moments were made all the worse with an occasional buggy control. Something as simple as walking through a doorway became a task at times. That said, the voice acting and graphics were top notch. What really makes the game worth while are the really sweet heartfelt moments(these include moments of revenge).

For story experience I like this much more rather than Detroit, but yeah, for gameplay mechanism Detroit still better than this.

The game perform pretty well, no stutter, no lag issue whatsoever at Mid to Low PC.

I started with Detroit thinking that was the first one and loved it. I tired heavy rain and was really disappointing but chalked it up to well it was their first one. I almost didn't try Beyond thinking I would be just as dissapointed, was I wrong!! I am so in love with this game! I had to do all four endings! I could see myself definitely redoing this to see how different things would have played out ,such as with Ryan. I love the layers of Jodi. Maybe as someone who has felt abandoned or that nothing I do is right, I relate to Jodi so much and root for her. Surprised that this isn't give better ratings, maybe a cult classic? I wish more than anything there was a sequel to this!!! I know that's not what they do but man it would be so amazing depending on what ending you choose and then going from there...The controls were weird at first but once I got the hang of it, it was pretty cool being able to be a good person as well as let my Aiden side out...I want more!!!

If you like story driven choice/decision based games (like Life is Strange, Walking Dead, Detroit etc) then you will surely like Beyond 2 Souls.

Quantic Dream is highly praised for story driven games and this game is no exception. The game's strong aspect is the story, characters and details. The game revolved around dealing with difficulties of life and face them with a positive attitude.

Sound, music voice acting is good. Graphics is pretty decent considering it's release date. Game play is based on Quick time events (QTE) and some minor actions like running, crouching etc.

The camera control is a bit clunky and often it can frustrate the player. The game could take around 10 hour for 1 playthrough.

Overall it is a good game and if the player is into story driven games then this game will not disappoint the player.
    Rating: 8/10 and recommended.

    Last played on: January 2021.
My verdict is at the bottom

    The people of the game

Besides Jodie Holmes, most characters are only slightly fleshed out. Aiden is a noticeable exception. Despite having no actual dialogue, Aiden certainly develops a personality of his own and grows alongside Jodie. Another outlier is Nathan Dawkins. He starts as a scientist and caregiver that might be trying to help Jodie but goes through a personal tragedy and becomes a warped, twisted version of his former self. I thought he was the only other well defined character in the game. I found other characters were mainly there to show Jodie’s growth (like Cole and the homeless people) or become potential love interests (e.g. Jay and Ryan).

The villains are absolutely ludicrous in how poorly-written they are but they occupy a very small portion of the game time. There is no alternate viewpoint. As a player, we are given (some) control over Jodie and Aiden’s destinies so they are the ones that are present most of the time.

    My emotions!

Beyond: Two Souls is beautifully acted, through motion-capture and voice acting, with some well known actors such as Elliot Page (Jodie Holmes) and Willem Dafoe (Nathan Dawkins). The game excelled at drawing me in and making me care about Jodie. Being ping-ponged between different periods of her life somehow made me feel like Jodie was a friend or a family member. I certainly empathized with her, Nathan and Cole (another caregiver that becomes Jodie’s friend) throughout most of the game. Others, such as Ryan Clayton, are much harder to love. And the “evil” antagonist, General McGrath, is not well written enough to warrant comment.

I know this game was published in 2013 and I played it in 2020-2021 but it seemed forced to have Jodie meet potential love interests. I feel like the game would have been perfectly fine without any attempt to force a relationship. Fortunately the game gives the player some leeway in that regard.

    Voice acting AND top-tier music

The voice acting is of an extremely high quality. The performance from the actors themselves is excellent but the technical aspects of the sound design were also very well crafted. The slow-motion focus sound as well as the punches and other impact sounds really kept me focused during battles and fights. The music was composed by Lorne Balfe and produced by Hans Zimmer (yes, that Hans Zimmer). It is absolutely superb, alternating between styles: sometimes it’s mysterious and touching, other times rhythmic and full of energy or dramatic and sad. Although it is mostly instrumental, the soundtrack makes judicious use of chorus or chorus-like effects. It seems designed to help the player understand the characters more as well as enhance or highlight the emotions of a scene. And it works all the time!

    Verdict

This is an outstanding emotional story-telling game, much more akin to an interactive movie than anything else. I really bonded with the main character and walked away both filled and empty.

What I liked most about the game

The bond and love I felt for Jodie, Aiden, Nathan and some other characters. I did not know (or I had forgotten?) I could feel that way for video game characters.

You know how sometimes you feel sad when you finish a book or TV series just because you won’t get to live more with the characters? Well this is how I felt when I finished playing Beyond: Two Souls.

What I liked the least about the game

While the story was solid for most of the game, it does contain potential plot holes as well as weird character motivations and the ending felt dubious to me. The whole Navajo chapter felt disjointed, superfluous and a bit tacky.

    Should I buy this game?

Yes! If you liked other games from Quantic Dream, if you like interactive movies or if you like storytelling games with deep emotional connection, you should buy and play this game. In my opinion, there’s no need to wait until the game is on sale.

I don't think I've ever played a game that gave me more shivers down my spine than Beyond: Two Souls.
What an emotional rollercoaster! It is worth buying for the story alone. The graphics are fantastic.

But, if you're playing on PC, the controls are really really frustrating. You can still play the game the whole way through, but it's just annoying.

Overall, I would definitely recommend Beyond. It was a unique experience. Worth every penny.

I think that everyone should play this game, at least once in their lives :D Every detail of this wonderful story is flawless, and no matter which decisions you make, it will still be interesting. Also, this game is so emotional and it will melt even the coldest hearts, because you will realize that suddenly you got attached to the main character and you will feel like you are going through everything with Jodie, for real.
Since this game is actually Playstation game, at the beginning you will maybe have some troubles with camera angle on your PC, at least for me it was kinda strange when I started, but please don t give up because of that, you will get used to it very soon and you will enjoy every second of the game.
So my conclusion is that I highly recommend this game to everyone, you won't regret for playing it because you will have an amazing emotional experience.

I loved the story, it's really amazing, it feels like an interactive movie that keeps me wanting to see how the progress develops. I played the remixed version (chronological ordering), and I'm glad I did, people say the original ordering felt too random. Even though allegedly we are playing Jodie's memory, which are mixed up, I didn't feel like watching a movie like Memento (2000) again... This kept the story nice and easy for me.

But for god's sake, those controls pissed me off! I am so angry that I wanted to do the better, longer outcomes, seeing the story in full, and not keeping getting rescued!! It takes a second to do the right thing but you are given no hints like, move the mouse up or down, left or right. Surely one can practice it, but I'm the kind of guy who has no patience for that! I get punished for one tiny moment done wrong in the game (actually, I'm given multiple chances, fair enough, but guess what, for some reason still too hard for me), and to hell with that! I won't replay whole chapters just because of these unforgiving, panic inducing controls I am supposed to get used to. No way! I just watched the better endings on YouTube, although I'm definitely not proud that I didn't get things right.

So yes, probably I will regret this decision, but because the controls made me so angry, I won't upvote a game that is otherwise awesome. I'd say, yes, buy the game, but for the hardest parts, just save yourself the trouble and watch the missed scenes on YouTube. Now I'll go and channel my anger into a physical workout excercise.

So, I have written a review that is 2.5 K chars too long to post, great.

    TLDR:
    love-hate relationship with the game.
    recommendation? yes
    unconditionally? no

story? 1st 3rd ok, rest pretty good
controls? terribly awful (though maybe ok with controller)
would I play other games by Quantic Dream? Detroit: Become Human quite possibly. I hear they improved controls to some degree. Or maybe I'll wait till after I bought a controller.

Great acting, many nice scenes, overall very well put together. Too bad the story is not really on par with the rest. There are a number of scenes that are just fillers making it a pain to play any further (way too many flashback scenes where she is a kid, IMO). However should you give it a try, I would recommend you play this with a controller or on another platform.

Warning: The keyboard / mouse controls are a real mess in the PC version, it almost ruins the experience completely!

An interactive story, ideal for a rainy day. Nice graphics, storyline and character development. Fun freewill to be nice or destructive as desired. Controls could be better on a keyboard and mouse, but still managed.

The story is interesting and despite what everyone says about the original version of the story, it's not hard to follow.

This game though is borderline unplayable with these terrible controls. I really feels like they spent all their money on hiring two big actors for the cast and didn't have enough to pay some Q&A testers.

Beyond: Two Souls tells a story of Jodie, a girl born with a gift - an invisible and mysterious entity named Aiden. Being special with such an entity around her, it's no surprise she was experimented on and it was the government that wanted to use her and find the connection to the world from where the entity belongs to while she just hoped for a normal life.

The game is scripted meaning it is more of an interactive movie directed by David Cage. Cage has wonderful ideas but turning then into a masterpiece probably needs more than one single great mind. You can play as both Jodie and Aiden. The game asks you in which way you want to experience the game, either chronologically or the way it was originally intended. Jodie tells us then she doesn't know where to start and she may as well begin here. We get to see a scene where we see her at a police station where a sheriff is trying to find out what happened to her. SWAT team storms the station. We don't see what happens, but we get to see how they all end up - dead with the exception of the sheriff who was kind.

After that we start to see more from Jodie's life. Each chapter shows a life event from anywhere from her life and they are very different and of a different kind of gravity. While this is something I'd expect, it is also something that made the game very incoherent story-wise and atmosphere-wise. I was once at a birthday party being a total clueless outcast and then on a CIA mission. Part of the game seems like a slice of life game, then turns into a drama, horror and then sci-fi.

Most of the time you'll probably watch cinematic scenes. When not, you will be asked to do simple tasks like stand up, grab something or walk. There are no puzzles that would require thinking, all you have to do is follow a white dot somewhere on the screen. Next, there are quick-time events happening during the cutscenes. In combat the game will slow down and tell you what button to press or where to move your mouse. It's very hard to say what you are supposed to do, so choosing the right direction is quite a guesswork. No matter how beat up you end up, the game just progresses on. Can you even die since Aiden can heal people?

Controls are bad. The game is a port from Playstation and a PC user will probably use a keyboard and mouse. Moving Jodie was difficult. The camera seems to have life of its own, often decides to turn in the opposite direction resulting in you turning twice and watch the camera move just to end up in the same spot you started walking from. When the game goes into slow motion you often need to move your mouse in time to a certain direction as I described before. That alone is a mess and if it made actual impact on the story (as in Detroit: Become Human) I'd probably be more negative. Moving Aiden is much easier since he can just fly through everything and it switches to first person view. On the other hand using his ability requires you to either align two points at another one, place the two points somewhere specific or just 'charge' the action. When in fight you can get confused about what you are supposed to do.

Aiden can also move objects, kill people, control people, heal and protect. The perfect Deux Ex machina! Aiden's abilities would be great if they would be the same all the time. Unfortunately, that's not true. Sometimes you can roam free and explore a large area, the next time you just can't even go through the first door that is a step away. There's not much freedom in using Aiden.

Dialogues have choices, nothing new and expected. Your choices can affect the outcome of the story in the chapter but not in the whole game like in Heavy Rain or Detroit: Become Human. The game will simply gravitate towards one similar ending that is not even satisfying since it brings even more questions than it answers. The revelation that you can just simply let go off the controls and just let the game flow made me wonder why this was even produced as a game. It would made a great TV series or a 3 hour movie (8 if not edited and released just as it is).

The story is what makes the game and honestly I'm not entirely sure what to think about it. The story is one huge mess that drags Jodie through her life in which she wants to be normal but is not allowed to. There doesn't seem to be much of a character development and many of the situations and dialogues seem to be forced. The game was supposed to provoke deep emotions in us and make us think but unfortunately I couldn't fully immerse myself in the game. Jodie wasn't a believable character to me, no matter how great Elliot's acting was. I couldn't attach to her in any way. The controls didn't help it either, the QTEs felt futile, the frustration with the actual game parts was something that was breaking the story apart too. It broke the tension and flow. I could just passively watch while being detached from everything. It was also partly because I wouldn't choose any of the options in the game if it were me in Jodie's position.

As for visuals, the game is stunning. The motion capture they use is one of the best. We get to see different environments, in some we can even roam free for a bit, and that is something great. Unfortunately all we can do is just look at the scenery and walk from given point A to a given point B without any detours. The scenes are done in a way we'd expect from a movie. It makes us feel emotions we probably wouldn't from a more traditional approach game. The acting is excellent and Elliot Page did a really great job at breathing life into Jodie. Willem Dafoe played well too and even went out of his comfort zone at the end of the game. Unfortunately, the relationship between Jodie and Nathan somehow lost all kind of chemistry, it felt like the actors weren't even present at the same scene when it was shoot. It left me wondering if either of them cared about one another at some point?

    Verdict:
Big disappointment. As a movie-like game I expected a strong and coherent story where decisions mattered, instead I got a very linear and clichéd story where I could not even make the decisions that seemed logical. The ones I could choose didn't change the narrative. There was one decision I liked - leave everything including the past at the base. Unfortunately, there was a hop into the future where the items were present again! I coldly turned Ryan down at every occasion. At the end, the game threw a decision at me stating 'Kiss' (the possibility of taking his life would actually make sense, the option was not there).

From the game play view, this game could be described as follow the white dot or find a blue dot and do something with it. I did not pay 20 bucks for a game in which even walking is a tiresome task. I learned from other games that QTEs can be rewarding or satisfying but in this case they do the opposite most of the time because while they are easy to execute, they are difficult to read. 95% of the times you can just let the game go on without doing a single action (I mean during the actual game time not watching cinematics), in those 5% that it matters, the decision itself won't matter much.

The story is good if it would be told in a different way and would make for a great series or a movie, Your decisions in the past do not change the outcome of the game.

The controls are bad, resulting in frustration. They distract from anything that could catch your interest.

The presentation of the game, animation, sound and music are truly stunning. Same goes to Elliot Page's acting. Without Elliot the game would be most probably lifeless. While I enjoyed the acting of other characters in the game, the characters weren't written in a way that would make them believably human from my point of view.

Obvious plot holes and the fact I couldn't make decisions or feel like anything mattered just made me passively watch the game, not giving me any motivation to attach to the characters, story or even just play the game.

    Beyond: Two Souls

....or how much intersection may life and death have!?

    The game in a nutshell

Beyond: Two Souls is an interactive Sci-Fi/Paranormal Thriller with Adventure elements. The main focus is on Jodie Holmes (Elliot Page), a young lady with a psychic connection to an invisible entity named Aiden. Depending on the game mode we experience her story either linearly or non-linearly through different episodes and developments in her life between the ages of 8-25. As the story progresses we have to make decisions and the story changes in a therefore resulting ending.

    +

    - strong and emotional narrative
    - beautiful graphics
    - great appearance by Elliot Page and Willem Dafoe
    - supernatural abilities
    - cinematic cutscenes that vary with decisions
    - replayability for different achievements and endings
    - undiscovered decisions marked for your next replay
    - fantastic soundtrack supervised by Hans Zimmer
    - co-op mode possible

    -

    - clunky controls with mouse and keyboard
    - ...therefore controller highly recommended
    - QTE

    Conclusion

I have to say it at this point: For me, QTE is by far the most pointless and annoying feature in gaming history and as useful as the need for a fridge in the Arctic. In combination with the more than clunky controls playing with mouse and keyboard, it was a challenge to enjoy this game. The fact that I'll play it again soon despite that should say enough. The story and its actors are terrific and the staging brilliant. Jodies personal struggles are very dear to my heart and her story worth exploring several times. This game not only addresses core questions of the metaphysical and supernatural, but also deals with topics such as power and abuse of power (both worldly and psychological in nature) as well as the ultimate question: Which path will I take in life and for what reasons - and what are the consequences for me and others of the rejected opportunities. Highly recommended!

I normally don't do actually *serious* reviews, but... wtf is this game? It started so corny and I was laughing my ass off at some of the attempts to a writing (notably with that party level)

And the suddenly, a quarter way through the game, it just completely flipped. When I was playing the first missions, I absolutely did not expect to be on the brink of tears on the final level.

If you can get through the cheesy and honestly hilarious mishaps of the first few levels, this game is just phenomenal, and after playing all the Quantic Dreams games, this one, in my opinion, is the actual best.

    9.5/10

BTW, please play this with the Letterbox remover mod, by default the game has a black letterbox on all the time, its horrible, get the mod and experience the game properly.

Beyond: Two Souls is a really enjoyable game!

It's a mysterious story surrounding a girl named Jodi and an entity that was connected to her at birth, named Aiden.

The acting is superb, and I fell in love with Jodi as the story unfolded through her childhood and adulthood, helping her discover who she is and what she has to do. It was interesting flying around the scenes as Aiden, using his paranormal powers too. I absolutely loved the Navajo scene, and discovered it to be the most well done chapter that really pulled me into the game, but there were lots of other good chapters too!

In comparison to Quantic Dream's Fahrenheit: Indigo Prophecy and Heavy Rain, this game was right on par, becoming another fantastic entry in the choose-your-own-adventure-story genre. The only downside was that there are some scenes where you aren't given a QTE (Quick Time Event) prompt, and it can get confusing. But it still ended as a great game!

It's definitely worth a play-through at least one time to experience it! I hope to see all the endings someday!

    8/10

A nice supernatural story with well crafted characters and two famous actors as main characters. It's like a game who wants to be a movie, and in many moments everything really works just fine. Story-wise it's good, but the controls are clunky and some QTEs are slightly unnerving. Recommended but nothing particularly incredible.

Beyond: Two Souls is certainly a shocking and emotional game that you'll like particulary if you're into David Cage's style.

Ever since I played Heavy Rain, I was in love with this kind of approach to gaming. It's incredibly cinematic with out of this world character faces and acting. They certainly used the experience and built something incredible. Ellen Page and Willem Dafoe's inclusion probably adds to the game a lot since they're both extraordinary at what they do. What's interesting with the game was its usage of locations for me. You go from desert to icy areas, from underwater to military missions and I have to admit that I was not expecting such a variety. It's like living and playing a Hollywood movie and that makes us incredibly lucky to experience such an awesome art piece. There's a ton of episodes that you will remember after the game like Homeless, Navajo, Norah etc. Also, the game's Original Music written by Lorne Balfe and Hans Zimmer and it hits you emotionally in most of the scenes.

There's not much to say about gameplay since it's all button mashing and QTE; however, everyone knows that what make these games are the story. I overall liked it as your options and they're influence to the story are crucial. Also entity concept is so close to home that if gives you goosebumps many times with emotional depiction. If you're into cinematic experience and David Cage's style, I'd definitely recommend; however, if you're expecting a gameplay embellished with different mechanics, you'd of course be disappointed.

For me though, it's a masterpiece in its own genre. You will remember the game even after years. Hoping for a sequel.

Almost 6 years since Beyond: Two Souls was released on PS3, and 4 years after its remastering on PS4 here is finally the PC version. A version so technically finished that without this known history, one would have thought it was the master version. Of course, it is this point that is obvious from the first minutes of the game: all the work of Quantic Dream is magnified.

We can say that graphics are not everything, in a game with such an important narrative dimension, it further increases the immersion and the emotions generated by the acting and the staging. While it is a story/adventure game there are plenty of on-screen cues and mouse gyrations to keep one completely engaged.

    GOOD
    *Visually Stunning
    *Engaging story
    *Like playing an interactive movie

    BAD
    *Mouse cues are frustrating
    *Some visual cues confusing

    Summary

Live the life of Jodie Holmes, a young woman who possesses supernatural powers through her psychic link to an invisible entity. Experience the most striking moments of Jodie's life as your actions and decisions determine her fate. As she traverses the globe, Jodie will face incredible challenges against a backdrop of emotionally-charged events never before seen in a video game.

    Rating: 7.5/10
Genre: Quick time event, story telling

    The Good:
+ Fantastic facial/body animations. Motion capturing the entire cast really pays off and brings many emotional moments to life.

+ The story itself is decent helped by the performance of some high-quality actors. Although I did figure the big twist very early on in the game, watching x-files at a young age really prepares you for the paranormal ????. You can either play the game in chronological order or play how the developers intended, by jumping back & forth between different time periods in the main characters life. I think the developers felt this would make for a more suspenseful, mysterious story but it just comes across as disjointed. My personal opinion is playing in chronological order provides a more satisfying experience.

+ You can make choices within each chapter that causes different outcomes, some minor, some major, however you will always ultimately end up in the same place at the end of the chapter. It does provide some incentive to replay certain parts of the story.

    Average:
+/- The gameplay consists mostly of quick time events. There are some gameplay segments where you have to guess what button to press based on what is happening on screen, for the most part you will get it right but there are a few times when its hard to guess what the game wants. Luckily the game is very lenient on mistakes so it doesn’t affect anything but it does get frustrating. There is one chapter that is based solely on stealth and despite the animations, controlling the character feels odd. Controller is HIGHLY recommended.

    The Bad:
    - Un-skippable dialogue and cutscenes.

    Conclusion:
This is a fun game for what it is, the enjoyment you get out of this game is really dependant on how much you like the story and characters. The entire game will last just under 10 hours.

The game is absolutely worth playing. BUT, i absolutely HATE the way the controls work at some points especially during fights. You can easily mess up a fight and feel pretty stupid about it because the game doesn't tell you what to press. Sometimes you pretty much have to guess.

Most of the times the game gives you second chances during that same fight but there are cases that 1 mistake is enough to cost you a life or a desired ending.

Would be better as a movie. The gameplay is maybe the worst I've ever experienced. Reminiscent of telltale games, except the quicktime events have very vague indicators for what you should do.

I like these kind of games but Beyond is different from what I've usually played. It's damn beautifully written! Though, I had a hard time with the controls especially when in spirit mode - I'm sure it was just me. One thing I like particularly is how the game conveyed Jodie's emotion throughout the game. It's just as if you are inside her mind. Elliot Page is so coooool too! Great job Quantic Dream!

The game was very entertaining and a lot of fun to play. Very engaging indeed. The characters were well portrayed as well. And your decisions also help shape the game that also leads to multiple different endings.

The game mechanics weren't too much of a hassle and easy enough to adapt to. I am looking forward to my second play through.

The game also comes with many achievements which is a bonus for me. I highly recommend this game and the asking price is very reasonable also.

I could've written a an essay like my normal reviews but to be honest all I can say is:

    Pros:
    - Good story (for what I played). I expected to be a bit overwhelmed and stop playing even on the Remix Mode from sheer confusion, but the game seems to introduce the core concepts in a snappy way and doesn't draw out essential information over the span of several episodes.
    - Great music. I expected nothing less from a story rich game to be honest, since all that I have played used music to great effect.
    - Creative gameplay mechanics. Janky as they are (explained later) I'll concede that the concept here is definitely unique and worth praise on its own.
    - Excellent mo-cap and acting. Even playing Detroit: Become Human (A game that unfortunately is crippled by graphical errors that I cannot fix) didn't make me feel THIS impressed with the quality of the acting (using two great actors Willem Dafoe and Elliot Page) displayed here.

    Cons:
    - Abysmal control porting from console which honestly seems way too controller-based to even be playable unless you're a hand-eye coordination MASTER who doesn't need movement prompts to succeed (because half the time the game won't give you them.
    - At-times restrictive linear levels, although there's still a giant variety of ways to alter the story/your experience in it
    - The writing isn't that great. The acting is excellent as said before, but the writing? Naaaahhhhhhh

All in all I'm sure if I had a controller and was used to using one then this could be workable, but unfortunately I have neither to my name and I don't plan on getting one just to use it only for this game, so I think I've called it quits with this one.

    An absolute emotional rollercoaster.

I can’t believe I never played this game back when I was on playstation.

Quantic Dream made one heck of an amazing game.

It will definitely go down as one of the most memorable games I have ever played.

Although the game is amazing I do have to mention that at times when you take control of Jodie (your character), it can be clunky at times and some of the choices are pretty hidden and I wish they were easier to find. These are just my minor gripes.

I absolutely recommend this game. It’s one ride you do not want to miss. This game easily gets an A from me.

This videogame tells you a very pretty and some times sad story about a girl who has a soul inside her, it was really interesting to know this story

Maybe just 1 thing to complain is about the resolution of the game because it has not fullscreen like 1920x1080, while playing the videogame you will have 2 black bands above and below

This game is incredible and beautiful both from a graphical standpoint and from a story standpoint. I played it immediately after finishing Heavy Rain and found myself unable to put it down. I genuinely sat at my computer for 11 hours straight because I was so engaged with the story. As with any game on Steam, don't pick it up at full price but if it's on sale, it's a good investment for those who enjoy emotional stories and choice-driven gameplay.

I burned the house because she said rock music sucks

I am Quantic Dream fan since Fahrenheit, after I played it I fell in love with narrative games and couldn't wait for more similar games. Heavy Rain came out after some time and again I enjoyed it very much but it had flaws. And then Beyond Two Souls have been released. Wow I loved everything about this game, it's hard to find to say anything bad about it.

Beyond Two Souls tells a story of Jodie and her entity Aiden. Don't expect realism here, it's kinda similar to Life is Strange 2 in some way or Fahrenheit. A girl with supernatural power. Aiden is always with her, he doesn't leave her, he protects her and even lets her see souls and past events. In her childhood Jodie was taken by the scientists to do tests and experiments and her life has been a real roller coaster. No need to talk about the story much because of spoilers on every step so you need to experience it yourself.

The game has two known faces – Ellen Paige as Jodie and Willem Dafoe as doctor Dawkins. So you can expect a much higher quality than previous games.

Gameplay is as usual in that kind of game. You control the character, in this case Jodie and Aiden, interact with various items, people etc., talk with people and explore a bit. When controling Aiden you either help Jodie by protecting her or clearing the path or you wreak havoc and sometimes even annoy Jodie. Gameplay is nothing revolutionary but it's executed perfectly.
The pacing is great, some chapters are calm where you do some everyday stuff, some are full action and some tell a nice little sub-story.

This game really shines like no other when it comes to environments. There are so many of them and every area is highly detailed. The smallest details are there. Forests, facilities, snow, desert, home, it has everything. Some chapters are short, some could last an hour. Even if the chapter takes 15 minutes to complete you get to explore the whole area. I can't believe these developers spent time on modeling everything knowing that the player will spend 15 minutes in that area and many probably won't even explore everything. That's what I call dedication.

There's a lot to see and experience, laugh, revenge, death, love and so on. You get to see the whole life of Jodie since when she was just few years old. Her childhood, her teenage years, her first love. The game will take you through all the most important phases of her weird life. And at every stage of her life she's modeled differently, different clothes, different hairstyle, sure these are small detail but they're so nice to have. You'll see how hard it is for her to be different, how hard the life could be, how ugly the war is and much more.
Characters you see the most are obviously Jodie and Dawkins but you meet new people who appear in some chapters and experience their little stories sometimes forgetting that you're playing Beyond Two Souls.

I must say some scenes feel very similar to Life is Strange 2. I don't know if it's a coincidence or DontNod took some inspiration from this game. Play both and you'll certainly notice three chapters are very similar.

A huge improvement compared to Heavy Rain is camera. It's not completely fixed anymore. Sometimes you can move camera almost freely, sometimes only look to one side or another a bit. This makes moving easier and you stuck in a loop of going forward/backwards less often. It still might happen but nothing too bad. Many areas are much bigger too, some even creating an illusion of small open world.

Another changed aspect are the controls. While many actions require you to press buttons like in other QD games, action scenes take slightly different approach. Some people might not understand how controls work in action scenes because sometimes it's counter intuitive. I've seen some confusion in comments etc. but it's pretty simple. Just pay some attention in training chapter! It's there for a reason. You don't get button prompts, instead time slows down and you need to flick the right stick in the right direction. It doesn't literally tell you which way, you need to watch Jodie and flick it at the right time to the side Jodie, her arms or legs are moving. Pretty simple when you understand it and I love it. Of course it could be challenging but that's where the fun is. Nothing is perfect, even best UFC fighters get punched in the face, so here it's the same.
If you don't like that you can choose easy mode where qte's and action scenes are easier.

There's also coop mode and remix mode. I suggest avoiding remix mode where chapters go in chronological order and play the game in original mode.

Now onto the technical side. This is a technical marvel considering it ran on PS3. I know this version is improved but still, this game looks good even by today's standards, not even talking about animations. Character models are so good that it looks better than majority of current gen games. Graphics are greatly improved compared to Heavy Rain. Graphics are better in every way. Much improved hair, environments have much more detail, even better animations and much better facial animations. When characters are talking or doing something it feels so natural, almost as if you're watching a movie.
Weirdly it has native ultrawide support. Don't know if it's intentional or not but it's weird because Detroit doesn't have it.
The game is unfortunately locked to 60fps. It's fine, but unlocked framerate would be appreciated.
They even added such a minor steam feature like when you play the game your friends can see in which chapter you are.
Game runs on 60fps steadily for me on 3700x, 2070s, 32gb at 3440x1440.

Sound design is done perfectly too. Voice acting is like day and night compared to previous games. Voice acting means a lot in this kind of game so I really appreciate that developers decided to go this more expensive and more complicated path. Thank you.
Soundtrack? Again it's great. It's a blockbuster movie quality soundtrack. Music lets you feel more connected to what is happening on screen and lets you immerse into Jodie's world even more.

This game is a masterpiece in my opinion. Must play for every fan of the genre. Sure it's not realistic, it's like a Holywood blockbuster. It has improved a lot since the last game and in some areas even surpasses Detroit. Great variety in chapters, environments, characters, good main story and on top you get some good little stories of different people or families. Great graphics and sound, filled with action scenes and of course you never get tired of seeing that cute face of Ellen Paige.

    Pros
    • Great story
    • Good sub-stories
    • Outstanding graphics
    • Good pacing&gameplay
    • Action scenes are extremely fun
    • Very good voice acting
    • Good soundtrack
    • Enormous variety in environments

    Cons
    • Locked to 60fps

I would really like to recommend this, and I do like playing the game, but the controls are so bad that I just can't. Half the time it doesn't recognise that my mouse is doing anything, other times it thinks my mouse is moving one way when I'm moving it the other way. Added to that, I can't just keep the mouse button depressed when in a sequence of moves. Instead, I have to press it separately for each move. That causes even more moves to go wrong. Then at times, the game switches to auto-walk, which also flicks through the menus really fast, and I can't undo it. So all in all, I like this game but if they don't change anything about the controls I really can't recommend it.

Gaming-wise, this is easily the best story ever told. My former favorite Life is Strange got moved down one position. It is about a girl and a supernatural entity bound together from the day she was born, but you will already know that from other reviews or elsewhere.
The controls are okay. I fairly quickly got used to them, although they initially seemed weird. Don't understand why people complain about them so much.
To end all this on a romantic note, I'd like to marry Ellen Page :)

Even only playing through the game once, which I don't recommend, this game achieves a level of attachment to its characters and a thrilling story that is rivaled in few games. The constant one-sided banter with Aiden makes the player grow heavily attached to him, and one character's development arc throughout the entirety of the game is mindblowing. A very fun and solid game, greatly enhanced by the performances of each and every voice actor.

If you have played Heavy Rain or any other Quantic Dream's game, you know what this is like:

Very creative and immersive story, where choices matter + top notch voice acting and graphics.

QTE's and sometimes awkward camera angles are the only real cons.
For example, sometimes you don't even know, which direction you should push the controller's stick to and camera angles sometimes force you to walk around, just so you can turn around with the character.

    Just get it.

Beyond Two Souls is the story about Jodie Holmes, a young girl who was born with an entity attached to her. Is it a demon, a ghost, or something else? Jodie calls this entity Aiden and together, they must brave the story that's to befall them.

    Pros:
    Very good animations
    Excellent graphics
    Multiple endings (sort of)
    Decent story
Voice acting is very well done

    Cons:
    Controls need work
    Very linear
    Impossible to skips the credits
Many of the endings are virtually the same
    Quentin Tarantino story telling

The story is fairly good and it will keep you guessing up till the end. I'll have to say I didn't see the twist in this story even though there were hints along the way. The motion capture and graphics in this game adds to the realism, making the player feel like their right in the action. This game also boast 10 different endings which is always a big plus for me, however, many of the endings are very similar with minor differences. Truth be told, there are actually 3 unique endings. All of the others are variations of the 3.

The two main things I didn't like about this game were the way the story was being told and the controls.

The story is being related to the player in a Pulp Fiction type of story telling. Each chapter starts in the past or the future, you won't know till you get there. As you play, you jump all over the timeline where the story is taking place. I'm not a fan of it. I'll give you an example why:

Right at the beginning of the game, Jodie is a young woman, quickly relaying her life to the player. The next thing you know, Jodie is now about 6 years old and is now taking part in an experiment. After that chapter is done, Jodie is now about 25 and is attending a fancy party with some diplomats. After some small talk, the man you're with will tell you, “You know what to do.” I looked at the screen, raised up my hands and said, “No, I have no idea what to do or what the hell is going on”. It takes a little time to get used to it.

The second thing I didn't like were the controls. As far as movement, it's the standard WASD but your character may not be facing the way you want and there is no way to right it. If you're facing your character and you want to walk forward, you'll have to do the opposite and press 'S' instead of 'W'. It was a pain during the entire play-through.

At the time of this review, Beyond Two Souls was selling for $19.99. It's a descent game with a few plot holes but for $20, it's okay.

I don't recommend this game at all. 1- your choices does not matter2- you don't have a choice at allI played the game for the second time, you can not change the game a little bit in any point. You really can not choice anything. If you answer something against story, NPC insists and you do it unwillingly. As an example, a guy asks you to play pool, you say no, then he insist and you accept it. Always same, if you fail to push the buttons still same story goes on.

I’ve had this one on my radar since I picked it up for PS3 in November 2013. Similar to most of the games in my Steam library, it sat on the shelf unplayed for many years. So now that the Quantic Dream games are finally on Steam, I finally got around to checking it out.

I’ve been trying to get my non-gaming SO into gaming with these story-driven narrative adventure games. We played through Heavy Rain first, and she seemed to enjoy it a decent amount, but she really struggled with some of the mechanics in this game. The gameplay switches back and forth between controlling Jodie, portrayed by Ellen Page, in 3rd person, and an ethereal being, Aiden, in 1st person. The camera in the 1st person sections behave like the noclip command in a Bethesda game, allowing you to travel through walls and ceilings. So, my SO, being the non-gamer that she is, really struggled to control the Y axis of the camera, especially when clipping through walls, which is admittedly something you don’t do that often in games. So, this game is definitely not as approachable to non-gamers as something like Heavy Rain or Life Is Strange.

I even found some of the mechanics confusing, such as the QTEs. The QTEs in Beyond: Two Souls don’t indicate a direction. Instead, you’re supposed to watch Jodie’s movements, such as the direction her hands or legs are moving and move the analog stick in that direction. However, in the early game, there’s a combat training section that shows you that Jodie can counter attacks by reaching forward and grabbing an enemy’s arms or legs. So, for me at least, it was never clear if I should be dodging or blocking.

The story in Beyond: Two Souls is told non-chronologically. I thought the way the story was told was pretty interesting, but we unfortunately spanned our play sessions over the course of a month, so it was a little difficult to remember where each chapter took place on the timeline. That’s ultimately not the game’s fault, but it’s something to keep in mind. If you plan on playing through this, which I would definitely recommend for the story alone, try to keep your play session pretty close together.

When first playing this game, I used the keyboard and mouse. REALLY BAD, my mouse gestures weren't getting picked up by the game and whatnot.
I switched to an xbox controller and it was much better. If you want to play this, use a controller.
The story is still very interesting and holds up 7 years later. The puzzles are somewhat simple but it doesn't take away anything from the experience.
Overall, very good game, very story rich. Just remember to use a controller for the best controls.

I really enjoyed this title, the game is obviously all about the story and the choices you make. Reminds me of another great game: Quantum break, maybe with a little less action. You just have to press certain keys at some points during the game to make things happen instead of using powers and shooting bad guys. That's probably the weakest point of the game, the controls are not that great, especially when you are completely sure you pressed the right key but it doesn't register.
I'm sure i'll play it again to see what are the other choices. Needless to say, the acting, scenes and voices are great, having well known real actors as main characters ensures that. Plus Ellen Page is awesome.

If telltale games had unlimited budget, phenomenal story, great physics, amazing animation and an engine that isn't sh*t this is what you would get

    1st. the bad
    [olist]
  • Ok so if you wanna play with mouse and keybord the camera in this game is one of the worst I have ever experienced in any game, but if you go with a controller it's still terrible but less annoying.
  • NPC-s can get stuck on furniture, appliances or even other npc-s, you have to go and walk into them to push them to get them unstuck.
  • No matter if you play on keybord+mouse or a controller Jodie will occasionally get stuck walking through the door (if the camera wasn't gar**dge this wouldn't be a problem).Controlling [spoiler] Aiden [/spoiler] is way better and easier then Jodie.
  • You can't skip anything, cutscenes, conversations even the fuc*ing credits you have to watch it all. So if you are an achievement ho*e like me playing and watching everything multiple times without being able to skip anything is a huge waste of time.
  • It has a lot of fake telltale games choices where your choice doesn't matter, or is predefined no matter what you pick.
  • [/olist]

    2nd. the good
    [olist]
  • It runs and looks amazing.
  • The animation, voice acting, music and sounds are amazing best of the best.
  • The story is just phenomenal no matter what choices you decide to make.
  • It's big like 3-4 telltale seasons or games included in 1 game.
  • Face scanning, lip syncing and performance from Ellen Page and Willem Dafoe are just top notch.
  • So many tiny little details like particles in the air, strains of hair or lips getting slowly frozen in the cold, attention to detail is great.
  • [/olist]

Conclusion: don't get me wrong the game has some problems but the way the story is delivered is just brilliant you have to [strike] watch [/strike] play it just for the story if not for anything else. So for the people that want just pure quallity this is it.

If you are tired of online / PvP toxicity , and want to experience a true story game, or just want to watch a movie play this game ,because you have minimum movement/interaction in/with game , you can also set an option (completely new player) to even lower your interaction with the game, this it by far my best experience in this type of games , so this game takes the #N1 spot from heavy rain, everything is well done and there are lots of details.
you can finish the game in like 5H,
but if you are like me, and enjoy hunting achievement, this game will keep you busy for at least 50h,
    over all i give :
    10/10 for the story
    10/10 for details
10/10 free will ( you can make a lot of different decision and actions )
7/10 movement for pc ( 10/10 if you are using a controller)
9/10 graphic ( considering the game was made in 2013)
that is all , hope you find this review helpful,
    see you in infraworld...

Great story experience and surprisingly interactive with a few really different outcomes. Some of the mouse-based quicktime events are really frustrating on PC however. But in the end they don't matter.

Beyond Two Souls is a narrative focused game where the player controls a young woman called Jodie, who works as a spy for the CIA by using the powers of her mysterious ghost companion, Aiden. The game was developed by Quantic Dream, who also made Heavy Rain and Detroit Become Human.

The first choice you’ll need to make is which of the two different story modes to play. The original version frequently jumps back and forth in the timeline between scenes that show Jodie as a child, a teen, and in the present day. There’s also a remixed version which puts everything in chronological order.

I played the original version first and although I’m not a massive fan of this kind of storytelling when I’ve encountered it in other media because I sometimes find it confusing (Westworld season 2 immediately comes to mind), I thought Beyond Two Souls was fairly easy to understand. It helps that before the start of each scene you’re shown a graphic that makes it clear where in the timeline the upcoming scene takes place. I’m planning to eventually play the remixed version to see if that makes the story feel different.

While some scenes mostly involve making dialogue choices during conversations, there are a few combat and stealth sections, which are performed through QTEs, and you’ll also need to use Aiden’s powers for environmental puzzle solving. Aiden can pass through walls, see objects in another room, move objects around, and mind control enemies.

I usually enjoy stories that involve supernatural themes, and I found this story interesting, especially when Jodie has to deal with some otherworldly threats. The story can change depending on your choices and how successful you are at the QTEs and stealth. Voice acting is pretty good, including Hollywood actors Ellen Page (Jodie) and Willem Dafoe. I finished the story in 9 hours which felt like a good length to tell the story, and represents good value for the cheap purchase price.

I played most of the game with my Xbox 360 controller and I only had one issue with the controls. Sometimes if Jodie gets hurt you can use Aiden’s powers to heal her, and that particular QTE was significantly easier to do with mouse and keyboard.

I think players who value story will enjoy playing this game.
