1994 veröffentlichte Strategic Simulations Inc. (SSI) einen Titel, der das Strategiespiel-Genre für immer verändern sollte. Das fesselnde „Panzer General“ bot ein außergewöhnlich leicht zu erlernendes Gameplay-System und avancierte schnell zu einem langjährigen Benchmark für künftige Designer. Panzer Corps tritt in die Fußstapfen des berühmten Meisterwerks von SSI und verbreitet mit optimiertem Gameplay und Balancing sowie bekannten Elementen aus und strategischer Tiefe gleich der Ur-General-Serie ein unverwechselbares „Panzer General Feeling“.

Im Rahmen des Zweiten Weltkrieges befehligt der Spieler Armeen der Achsenmächte und begleitet seine Kernstreitkräfte durch den gesamten Krieg. Das taktische Gefecht mit verbundenen Waffen verlangt von jedem General der effiziente Einsatz der Stärken seiner Einheiten bei gleichzeitiger Ausnutzung der Schwächen des Gegners. Panzer Corps deckt mit 26 Szenarien in 21 unterschiedlichen Maps die bedeutendsten WKII-Schlachten des europäischen Kriegsschauplatzes ab. Das Spiel enthält zudem einige hypothetische „Was-wäre-wenn“-Szenarien, die auf dem Vorgehen des Spielers im Verlauf seiner ausgetragenen Schlachten und deren Entscheidungen aufbauen. Der Multiplayer-Modus - eine verbesserte Version des preisgekrönten PBEM++ Systems von Slitherine - ermöglicht dem Spieler, mühelos Gegner auf der ganzen Welt zu finden und gegen sie ins Gefecht zu ziehen.

Panzer Corps wurde entwickelt, um das Flair und Feeling des klassischen Wargames wiederauferleben zu lassen, entspricht aber gekonnt den Standards des 21. Jahrhunderts und ist damit (auch) für die neue Generation von Gamern attraktiv.

Mensch ärgere dich nicht im Panzerscorps-modus. Scheinbar werden die Kampfergebnisse zufällig! ausgewürfelt, mit ein bisschen, minimalen Einfluss durch Gelände, Eingrabung usw. Das Ergebnis kann 5:1 lauten aber genauso 1:5. Irgendwann bekomme ich da regelmäßig Frust.
Dann doch lieber Opengeneral spielen. Schade

Ein klar erkennbarer Nachfolger des alten Panzer General, doch diese Rundenlimits haben mich schon damals etwas gestört. Was mir dieses Spiel aber endgültig verdorben hat, ist die Tatsache, dass bei Start der Operation Seelöwe schon Landungsschiffe im Kanal sind, obwohl nebenan noch englische Zerstörer lauern. Das widerspricht der Logik, dass man zuerst die Luft- oder Seehoheit benötigt, bevor man Landungsboote auf den Weg schickt.

Die ersten Schlachten sind noch motivierend und der Spielgrad steigt angemessen an, aber spätestens nach Moskau werden lieb gewordene und mühsam aufgebaute Einheiten überrollt.- Kann man machen, ist aber eben nicht motivierend.

Habe Panzergeneral geliebt. Dies ist nun ein würdiger Nachfolger. Nach Jahren wieder aus der Schublade rausgeholt und sofort wieder fasziniert.

Not as epic as legendary Panzer General series that i played all parts and still have all cd/dvd, but still best of its genre.I miss the overrun feature of tanks and the epic screaming XD.

Panzer Corps. Wer früher gerne Panzer General, Allied General oder andere 5 Star Spiele gespielt hat, wird sich in PC sofort zurechtfinden.
Hexfeldstrategie, rundenweise und abwechselnd.
Einheiten werden die Kampange hindurch erfahrung gewinnen, aufgerüstet werden und Helden mit zusätzlichen Boni bekommen. Das Spielprinzip ähnelt im Grundsatz sehr stark dem ursprünglichen Panzer General, wenn auch mit kleinen gut durchdachten Verbesserungen im Design und den Regeln. Im Verlauf der Kampangene gibt es immer wieder Wendepunkte, bei denen das eigene Abschneiden in der jeweiligen Schlacht Einfuss auf den weiteren Kriegsverlauf nimmt, so ist z.b. so auch eine Invasion in England möglich.

Es gibt die Möglichkeit Karten im 2 Spielermodus gegeneinander zu spielen, zum Teil sogar extra dafür ausgelegte, entsprechend angelegte Maps.

Zusätzlich gibt es die Möglichkeit DLC´s zu installieren. Zum einen Afrika Corps und Allied Corps, die eigentlich eigenständige Spiele sind, ursprünglich auch so verkauft wurden, eigene Kampangen über die Dauer des jeweiligen Scenarios enthalten und im Umfang PC ähneln.Bei diesen beiden Dlc´s ist dann auch der Kriegs bzw Kampangenverlauf an das Abschschneiden des Spielers in den jeweiligen Schlachten gekoppelt.
Dann gibt es die Möglichkeit die Jahres Kampangen zu erwerben, die dann statt des gesammten Kriegs ein Jahr abbilden, allerdings mit nur eingeschränkten Einfussmöglichkeiten auf den Verlauf der Kampange. der Spieler hat dann allerdings die Möglichkeit seine Einheiten aus z.b. der ´39er Kampangen in die 40ér zu übernehmen, sammt erfahrungen helden etc. So dass man wenn man eine komplette reihe dieser DLC´s hat eine riesige Kampangene von 39 bis 45 durchspielen kann, mit xxx Maps, eine sehr schöne, wenn auch recht Zeitintensive Möglichkeit. Wobei hierbei allerdings der Verlauf des Kriegs immer gleich bleibt, selbst wenn man also z.b. die Schlacht(en) um Moskau gewinnt, wird in der Kampangen dann erklärt, das man sich aufgrund der Versorgungslage dann doch zurückziehen musste, so dass der Kriegsverlauf im grossen und ganzen gleich bleibt, also z.B. keine Landung in England.

Alles in allem. Panzer General war lange Zeit mein absolutes Lieblingsspiel, dies wurde nun von Panzer Corps vom Thron gestossen, das alles einen kleinen Tick besser macht.

Daumen Hoch für das meiner Ansicht nach beste Kampangenen Hexfeldspiel zum 2.WK aller Zeiten.

So, nach hunderten Stunden mit diesem Spiel ein weiters Fazit : mittlerweile sind diverse Erweiterungen erschienen, man kann nun auch auf russischer und Anglo/Amerikanischer Seite spielen, 100erte neuer Szenarien, die jeweiligen Besonderheiten der Alliierten wurden teilweise sehr gut eingefangen. Ich bin immer noch begeistert von Panzer Corps, auch der 2-Spieler Modus ist gut gelungen, Thumbs UP

PS: Ich habe keinen der Teile kostenlos erhalten und wurde nicht für den Test bezahlt oder sonstwie belohnt.

Auch x Jahre nach diesem Review spiele ich PC immer noch gerne und regelmässig.

I just conducted a rather lengthy research project on over a dozen Strategy games in this category. I found that there's a lot more than I knew and The list grows daily. Why did I do this search ? I can only blame it on This Game Panzer Corps. You see I attempted to match the game play with others and to be frank there is no Game that matches Panzer Corps on ease of use, graphics, immersion, historical references with its library of vehicals which include 3D interior views Something like that alone makes the product stand out-not to many counter type games come with such an beautiful glossary. I wanted to say congratulations on a outstanding product I would highly recommend this for anyone. This should be in any strategist game stock. Excellent work. Yes I have Panzer Corps 2 sorry but the original sparked my Fire and I am truthfully grateful. Great Job!!!

German panzers getting obliterated by Polish cavalry.

A lot of positives in this game, but overall not up to standards to the classic Panzer General series.

I purchased the Gold edition of the game but it has never allowed me to download anything but the base game. I can't figure out if I am making a mistake or if there was some error downloading it and nothing in the tech support seems to address this. I'd like to try the Allied and Commie campaigns, I mean there ain't much I like about the Reds but still like to have the option. It's a fun game, I just can't play all of it and that's a bit frustrating. I recommend it but would really like to get everything I bought.

Excellent game EXCEPT for some unknown reason, this year (same machine and config) game has constant crashes to desktop and as the devs have moved on to PC2, no longer provide support (or care) to sort this issue out.
If yo can live with having to constantly save every time you move a unit (that a unit move not turn) i would say buy, otherwise give it a miss.

This could be the game with the most content of anything. Nearly 200 scenarios that cover all theatres of WW2 in Europe, North Africa, the Middle East and Russia into the Caucasus and even India. If you played hex-based wargames back in the day when those were big, then you will love this. Works supremely smoothly even on a modestly powered computer (which is why it's head and shoulders above Panzer Corps 2), and builds up from easy to manage (and win!) scenarios up to incredibly challenging ones. Five levels of difficult take it from simple to insanely hard, and a huge variety of battles at different scales included. Literally, you could keep playing this forever and still find new things. Almost certainly hundreds of hours just to get through all of the scenarios and campaigns playing as one power at one level of difficulty, which can itself be fine-tuned. And that all only relates to the Single Player mode against the AI. I don't even want to think of how many hours I've spent playing this game. On the downside, it is one of the more expensive games, but for what you get, it's an incredible deal and will keep you engrossed for years! Hopefully not all at once!

I'm sorry, but I cannot recommend this game. It's not that it is completely bad or useless, it just feels too old-school in the wrong way. Today we have much better options, being it open-source Open General or professionally made Unity of Command 1/2, so there is no point in playing much simplier and less interesting games like this one. This one is not fun/interesting enough in my book.

One of the kings of Hex based turn-based strategy warfare for World War II.
A great medium complexity game that most people should be able to grasp pretty easily.
While it does have supply (ammo, fuel) it's not overly complex and makes the strategy more indepth.
If you grab the Gold version you basically have the entire World War II suite.

Graphically it's not the shiniest, but compared to some other hex based war games, this one still holds up.
An indepth editor is included so you can make just about any WW2 engagement you can think of.

Crashes on tutorial, verified files, seems to be if I click at the 'wrong time', shame because I like the no fuss simplistic board game esque feel to the game much akin to the game order of battle which I managed to play through the tutorial campaign without any issues.
Seems like it needs a few bug fixes, sounds cutting off is a bit jarring and clicking when the game hasn't stopped thinking causing it to crash to desktop and that is mere minutes into play.
Otherwise if you can get it to work for you and you enjoyed games like order of battle (try it, the tutorial is free but gives a good lengthy playtime) then its one to play and unwind to.

If I can fix the bugs I will amend my review to reflect a deeper dive into what it has to offer.

I got the normal version years ago. From time to time I´d get dlc and play a bit more.
So why I don´t recommend the game. Cause now it ask me to buy the Gold edition, to get all the dlcs. What about the ones I have already. They don´t care. And by the way this rip off of Panzer General. A 30 year old game does not deserve 24 eu.

This game is entertaining and a little informative. The is easy to play and gives the player a look at the basic tactics and strategy of a turn by turn game. It is a great entry level game and fun to play.

An oldie but a goodie.

Two ingredients needed to like this game:
1 - a fascination for WW2 warfare, especially the German side.
2 - interest in tactical warfare.

Intuitive, and solidly deep

This game plays exactly how you'd think it is played. If two units face an enemy, they receive a defense bonus. Soldiers excel in cover, while tanks prefer open grounds. Just two examples. The game does a good job at tutoring the mechanics. You even don't have to play the tutorial. Every new situation is accompanied by a pop-up message informing you about said situation.
The arsenal of equipment is genuine, and the battles are all historically accurate (as far as I can tell, not an expert). A big ingame documentation is present to supply information.

Don't take my word for it...

The top three 'most useful reviews all time' have well over 500 hours each in this game! Their views on this game are more valuable than mine.
There is a large stable playerbase. After almost ten years, at any moment there are between 250-500 players online daily! That's really impressive! There is a multiplayer mode that quickly fills spots. It's played in turns, battles will take several days to complete.

But... what do I think of the game?

Well, it's not entirely my jam... I think I don't meet the requirements laid out in the top. I do have interest in the mechanical aspects of warfare, and especially WW2 was both absurd and fantastic at the same time! But I guess I'm not really into tactical warfare. It was good for 1 campaign for me personally. I continued for some extra achievements, but my mind wasn't really in it anymore.
Still an easy recommendation: what you see is what you get. With one caveat:

Business model

Every game tailored for enthusiasts comes with lots of expensive DLC. Now ten years later the game comes bundled in the only version purchasable with all DLCs. I think the price is still a bit steep...
Last year the successor launched, Panzer Corps 2. While it looks ten years younger, that game is still in the process of releasing expansions, thus not complete. This game, the golden oldie, might be a better choice for some players.

Great game, but since it's now impossible to buy the DLC I can't upgrade and am stuck with the basic game. So basically it's Slitherine which ruined it for me, not the game itself.

It's just less pleasing than the games it apes in almost every way and was designed primarily as a way to sell DLC, which is why there is a second version of the game out now, selling you the exact same DLC content all over again. Slitherine is the EA of strategy games.

Panzercorps is a turn based strategy game set in WW2, and the spiritual successor of the legendary Panzer General series (specially PG II). And although it's better in every aspect, there is one specific factor for which I can't recommend it: the stupid, irrational combat RNG. Let's get into some detail anyway:

The game itself is a must play for fans of the forementioned game. It has deeper and more complex mechanics, incredible amount of different units, lots of maps and campaigns, and quite a bit of replayability. But in the end there seems to be only one strategy that is so much better than any other: getting tons of artillery units to wear down any enemy and then advance with tanks and/or infantry. By not following this tactic, you end up forever losing units which you usually want to keep because of the XP and traits they have gained from previous battles. Nevertheless, this can be overcome with good planning.

But even then, there is always this extremely annoying factor I mentioned before: the ridiculous RNG when it comes to attacking a unit, or defending it during the AI's turn. When doing so, every force available within your unit rolls a number, and that is what decides the outcome of that combat. So luck seems to have more often times than not, the deciding call in terms of how many units are destroyed. This becomes outrageous when you have clear advantage over terrain, unit type, traits and stats. And it happens far too frequently to make the game enjoyable in my opinion.

TL;DR: if you like turn-based strategy games and don't mind luck being one of the most important factors of combat, go for it. Otherwise stay away from it if you don't want to break your keyboard or something.

A great introduction to turn-based, more simple, war games. The difficulty curve increases slowly, giving you time to adapt, upgrade and experiment.

Like any good clone, it steals from the best (Panzer General) and improves on it. Even, if it is just subtle.

These days, the base game + all DLC is more affordable for curious, more casual, Steam players.

Worth buying.

I got the original Grand Campaign for $2 before they decided to bundle everything together. The problem with this game is that you want to get decisive victories. Since it is based on which turn you conquer all the victory points, I did a bunch of save and load if I either didn't plan my moves well or got a bad combat result. I also surrendered at the the start of the mission to see how the AI allocated its troops, cause who goes to war with zero intelligence on enemy makeup. There is not much replayability once you get the victory you desire and there is no reason to try again due to the fixed nature of the map. I just got the Decisive victories, conquered the UK and the US and then stop playing. I tried the other campaigns a little bit, but felt to discourage to even bother. Not particularly fun fighting a losing battle. I kinda want a more strategic version of this game. It was a good deal for $2, but I doubt that I will play this game ever again. Rate this game 5.5/10. I'll give to a recommend just because of all the content that is available to play.

It is a good game.

Unfortunatelly the Publisher decided to stab loyal fans in the back.
If you bought the base game and bought your DLC piece by piece, you can now no longer buy the DLC individually as everything got bundled up in the Gold Edition.

The Publisher is basically asking loyal fans to pay again for the base game and DLCs they already purchased.

I don't condone such conniving business practices.

The Publisher is now on my black list.

Fun game but overblown cost if we're honest even with the DLCs. Especially after this many years.

For example, Civ 5 is the same cost as this game (1 year older) and Crusader Kings 2 base game but with far more base game expansions on top of DLCs (1 year younger) is free.

Very disappointing. Just so dull compared to it's 1990's grand-daddy. The maps are made up of the same few texture tiles, which means they all look the same. It's just so dry compared to the original PG-II.
Add to this the DISGRACEFUL, borderline criminal even, activities of Slitherine with regards DLC policies and treating customers like shit. Slitherine have destroyed Matrix since taking them over. I should've learned from the experience and downright abuse I got from the Slitherine devs behind C:MANO.

Good job I got this when it was cheap.

[h1]Panzer Corps has brought back a flood of wonderful memories for me and while I fully realize that I'm a certified Panzer General fan boy and that could possibly cloud my judgment of the merits of Panzer Corps, all I know is that my campaign ended in a German defeat.

I had high hopes for this game, great reviews and issues that appeared to be addressed at this point. I bought the whole package and installed it without issue. However, when i went to play the graphics were mice-type. No matter what resolution i selected, i could not read the text. I was able to find where someone else had similar issues with 3200 x 1800 default resolution on their laptop, like me, and there was no fix available.

Changing the default graphics resolution of my laptop everytime before playing was an option, but that is not going to work for me as i often have to jump out of the game to do actual work.

Returned for a cheery refund by Steam and found another vendor who can do what is needed.

I will await PanzerCorps 2 and see how that plays out after a bit, seems no one is really liking it and calling it a cash-grab.

I do not promote this game for purchase, however, the reviews are exceptional and should be the guiding factor.

Been playing it since the days of Panzer General. I'm getting old :).

Simply the finest war game I ever played. Better then PZ Corps 2 by far.

Recommended if you like old school wargames or for instance a game like Order of Battle (spinoff).

Seeing how the second Panzer Corps is out i thought I should leave a review on this one and tell you to buy this game instead. This game is a excellent turn based with lots of replayablility because of the different campaign paths you can follow depending on your performance. Missions are varied and entertaining with objectives and side objectives that change mid mission and give bonuses for the mission or future missions. Its also hard to pass up the price for the Gold edition, you'll get hundreds of hours of content to enjoy, although the Grand Campaigns are underwhelming and don't have the same variety and replayability of the regular ones.

Overall its a must have if you're into WW2 and strategy games. Don't be scared off by it being a remake it is still a quality title.

It's not perfect by all means, i find flaws here and there, and some imbalances, and shortcomings, but overall it is an enjoyable turn based strategy game. Like many others before me, I was a Panzer General player and fan in the hay day, and this game brings back those memories for me. There does not seem to be as much content as I thought there would be, for the original price of the base game and all of the expansions, but I bought it dirt cheap on a sale. I rarely pay full price for my entertainment, Mount & Blade Bannerlord may be an exception though...

I am old.
I fondly remember Panzer General I and II (not so much III), Allied General, and Pacific General (particularly the Japanese Bicycle Infantry).
This is as good, if not better.

Good work dev's, thought I might buy one of the DLC's i was missing to play another campaign while giving the sequel a bit longer, and .... now I'm not buying either it seems. No discount or ability to buy missing dlc individually = no purchase of anything from you.

I played this game a ton back in the 90s and on my iPad and now it's on steam. A true classic and one of the best WWII games and wargames in general. If you don't know now you know.

The base game + DLC were merged into a single package, not even a BUNDLE package, screwing existing customers that had the base game and some DLC by making them have to buy everything again if they want a complete game.

Shameful practice and abhorrent greed! Never buying a Panzer Corps game again!

I have not finished the campaign yet they keep shooting down my bombers, but this game is everything I wanted from Panzer General. I look forward to Panzer Corp 2.
