A particle physicist’s mysterious and spectacular death sparks a race to find his hidden vault and claim his terrifying new discovery. The player will take control of four characters whose lives become entangled in the search for the scientist’s vault. They will have to learn to trust each other and work together to overcome the obstacles in their way and to keep this new and powerful technology out of the hands of a dangerous organization.

Resonance is a joint effort between Wadjet Eye and xii games. It's been five years in the making, and it's without-a-doubt their longest and most ambitious game to date. This gem is made by gamers for gamers, and you can clearly see that in almost every element of the game. From the polished and intuitive interface, through well balanced puzzles, all the way to the fun and gripping story, you can tell that xii games knows how to get the job done right. So if you are an old-school adventure game fan then this game should scratch all the old-skool gaming itches you’ve been feeling while delighting you with its innovations and story.
  • Twisting and riveting storyline that you experience from four different perspectives as freely swap between all the main characters to solve puzzles and progress through the game.
  • Unique long-term and short-term memory system that creates new possibilities to solve puzzles and uncover mysteries.
  • Intuitive interface makes for one of the best adventure gaming experiences you’ll get.
  • All the love and care you’ve come to expect from the developer of such classics as Gemini Rue and the Blackwell series.

tl;dr: 6/10

Soweit so normal.

Awful game with a game and puzzle mechanism that is pointlessly frustrating. It was disappointing because I'm such a huge fan of the Blackwell games, and I thought that Unavowed was pure genius.

If you like oldschool and quite difficult puzzles, please just ignore my opinion here, because it is all ranting about me being bored by oldschool puzzles ;-)

The first of Wadjet Eye games I have not enjoyed much. The puzzles were just too oldschool for my taste - I had to look into the walkthrough to literarily all of them, so I simply resigned after very short time. I play games for the story and relaxation, after 8 hours of intelectually demanding work. My brain just refuses to solve puzzles. They are a necessary evil in point and click games, for my taste.

I do not say the puzzles here were super-duper-hard. But I personally do not enjoy any puzzles, they are just a slow-down of the story, which for my taste should last no longer than 10 minutes to find a solution, with very little sweat.

But, as I said, it is the first title from Wadjet Eye I did not enjoy. So, do not take me wrong - it is still my favorite studio ever. I prefered Whispers of a Machine (completely beautiful experience), Kathy Rain (the best adventure game that has existed in this world), Gemini Rue (it had some oldschool puzzles too, but not all the time), Technobabylon, and all those more modern titles. I believe it might be that Resonance is just a little bit older, therefore more archaic than new beautiful titles by brilliant Wadjet Eye studio.

If you share my opinion here - I strongly recommend you buy this game anyways, to just fund the studio, which for sure makes many brilliant titles.

I tend to leave reviews only if I feel I've something to add to an existing body of reviews and in that sense...

This is certainly a positive review overall, as this is a wonderful game, but one thing I did have an issue with is the middle third of the game being relatively nonlinear, which with four protagonists that can exchange items among them and can through the STM mechanic basically each talk to any other in-game character about each and all makes for as far as I'm concerned too many options; is sometimes more tiresome than enjoyable. The commentary track mentions this nonlinearity to be very much by design, but frankly, I could've done with a bit more straight & narrow. Or fewer protoganists. Or fewer options for talking about fewer items.

In fact not sure whether or not the STM mechanic, while interesting and original, is such a good idea in the first place. Certainly complicates e.g. voice acting if everyone can talk/ask about anything, and then as far as I'm concerned not for tremendously good reason.

Still a definite recommend though; even if not perfect, very good game with an interesting story.

Hooking storyline with quite some interesting out of the box thinking and puzzles among the way. I replayed it twice for its several endings and achievements.

From the other reviews I've seen, it seems a lot of people were annoyed by the frequency and type of puzzles in the game.

As for me, I just finished the game today and was hooked by both the story AND puzzles.

Another character I've fallen in love with due to Sarah Elmaleh's AMAZING voice acting.

Overall a fantastic game and I'll be playing the entire game over again to get the different end choices, endings and credits stuff, as opposed to just reloading my endgame save. 5 stars. Thanks Wadjet Eye :)

Some puzzles just threw you off even with walkthroughs. But the storyline was very intriguing and even though it's not the game for me, I'm sure someone else would love this gem.

One of the best adventure games I have ever played. Unusual, but very good interface, interesting story, great characters and clever puzzles (minus the dialog tree puzzle before the endgame, that is too harsh). You can feel the love of P&C games on the design, a must have for every adventure game fan!

Holy wow! Wadjet Eye games have been hit-or-miss for me - mostly hit, and several hit the spot incredibly well, but I'd be hard pressed to say that they've done much better than this game. After having played so many point-and-click adventures I wouldn't imagine I'd be as satisfied as I've been with this one, but it makes my top 10 easily. If you're a fan of the genre and are looking for a serious one that's truly great - pick this up for sure.

This isn't a bad game in terms of story but the number of annoying puzzles really ruins the pacing.

For example, there is one puzzle where you have to navigate a maze. Which would be fine... if the devs did not decide to make the camera rotate at random which makes it harder for no reason.

I finished this game without a guide but I seriously doubt most people would have the patience. Only get it if you really want a challenge.

This game is similar to others published by wadjet eye: Primordia, Technobabylon, Shardlight, The Unavowed, etc. Great athmosphere and dialogue, interesting and challenging puzzles and beautiful pixel art.

I highly recommend it.

Like every other game published by Wadjet Eyes, this one is great! With a captivating story, likable characters, an interesting theme and some nice puzzles, it worth even for full price. And there weren't moon logics in this game, as far as I remember.

Another great Wadget Eye game - I like difficult puzzles, a PNC that is essentially a walking simulator is not my type of game. Support the classic genre of point & click adventure and maybe we'll get another Day of the Tentacle some time.. XII doing great work in this title!

This was quite fun and varied. There were only a few timed/agility sequences that were annoying. Overall there is a lot to keep you interested, some fun scenes and some drama, a bit over the top but that was ok. The odd illogical thing that such as an NPC won't give you the object you need if you don't pick up other objects in the right order in one spot. Interesting puzzles and a lot of unique character that I haven't seen in too many other games. Lots of effort was put into the dialogues and voice acting, even for side characters. The interactions can be pretty entertaining.

Another sci-fi outing from Wadjet Eye, though in this case with a more contemporary/near-future setting. Puzzles are as enjoyable as usual, with a nice balance between those which are object-based and those arising from conversations, and without becoming too obscure. Resonance differentiates itself, however, with the multiple playable characters, each with specific characteristics that make them suitable for particular scenarios - it's satisfying to work out how best to approach each situation from the increased range of options that this presents. The plot does a good job of driving the game forward and maintaining interest throughout, though with less prominence of deeper themes it feels less meaningful that some of Wadjet Eye's other games.

Really old school point and click adventure, decently written and scripted, quite challenging, multiple endings...

Very solid, but watch out, when I say this game is retro, I mean it. A lot of the smaller things, which are hard to describe, about the overall asthetic could be a turnoff. But, if you're already a fan of classic 80s and early 90s adventure games you'll probably have a great time.

And if you know what SCUMM is, you'll likely love it. : P

Resonance is a nice old style adventure with interesting and original game mechanics - like short / long term memories that you can use as inventory objects - plus four playable characters that start each with their own goals and then team up to solve a scientific and crime mystery. Puzzles are fresh and rather challenging in some cases, while 8 bit style graphics are really cool! The story conclusion should have been less rushed out, and the sound department is a bit poor, nevertheless I really liked this little gem. I recommend it to adventure fans who loved the '80s and '90s classics that want to breathe part of that atmosphere again!
