Fellow fans of this game. Go get the GOG version, it actually works. This version is laggy af and doesn't have modern screen resolutions. The GOG version however does. I am an old fan of this game, so I would want it to work properly. Unless this gets updated over here. It's fuckin' busted.

This is an absolute golden title. I would pay loads for a remastered edition. That being said, even now in 2022, the story and visuals certainly stand up to time. 11/10

Second Sight is a good game. It's got some age-related jank, most of which fortunately was stuff I could either fix or just acclimate to.

Since it's an older PC title, that inevitably means there's going to be some tech issues, though thankfully some smart folk have made patches to improve or fix various things. I settled for simply applying ThirteenAG's widescreen fix, it leaves the HUD elements pretty small, but they were legible enough that I didn't mind. As for bugs, there were a few but I don't know which were from the patch and which are from the game and/or its age. As always, I'd recommend checking PCGW for potential tweaks and options.

Bugs I had:
 • Frame rate randomly starts tanking until you reboot your PC
 • Bullet decals and footprints were sliding across the walls and floor when moving the camera
 • Cutscenes later into the game had severe audio desync
 •
In Confrontation, the elevators become unusable if you interact with them before getting the key from one of the guards
Now, for the game itself. The story is neat, actually thought it was really cool when I first played through the game.

The game looks decent, and the cutscenes have some nice animation, though it took a short while to get used to the overly cartoony motions of the characters.

Great soundtrack, decent-to-amusing voice acting and some volume balancing issues on the sound side of things.

As for the gameplay, it's good, if a bit easy on Normal difficulty. It's part stealth, part shoot, with controls that were very clearly designed with a controller in mind. It's playable on keyboard and mouse (it's how I played), but you'll be fighting with the camera and aiming a lot.

With a little patching and tweaking, this is still an enjoyable game. I'm glad that they brought this game back on Steam, though I would love to see them actually bring some sort of official patch to make it more readily playable for new owners.
The escort missions can go suck a moldy taint. For real.
The Mid 00’s definitely had it’s phases, and one of them being the criminally underrated and significantly underutilized “Psychic Power’s” Action game of the likes of Geist, Psi-Op’s and of course Second Sight!

Unfortunately for 13 year old me who picked up this game 16 years prior, it was a stealth-action game, something I absolutely sucked at!

Suffice to say, I never finished it, so considering Second Sight got a surprise re-release on Steam in early April this year I took it upon myself to finally getting around to finishing it! And you know what? Psi-Op’s was a better action game and probably the better choice for an impatient teenager like myself! But Second Sight is still a hell of a time now that I have actual patience!

Second Sight begins with our bald main lead John Vattic waking up with the Thriller Starter pack, amnesia and confined to a hospital bed! Just as soon as he regains consciousness Mr. Clean begins demonstrating Psychic Abilities such as Self-Healing, Telekinesis and patient scrubs full of military-grade hardware while battling both Government Goons and Violent Vietnam Flashbacks that seem to be changing the present day!

Story wise, it’s pretty corny but I can’t deny it throws a hell of a lot of loops for the player to wrap their mind around. Coupled with an enthralling atmosphere and some seriously foreboding tunes, Second Sight definitely demonstrates one hell of a Thriller Presentation despite it’s dated nature!

Art Design wise, it aged gracefully! Instead of going for a more realistic approach to it’s graphics, Codemasters decided to use their own art aesthetic present in their Timesplitter’s trilogy with highly expressive facial expressions in the cutscenes and very engrossing level design and details. Considering this was their only PC Release, it’s both endearing to see Second Sight get a second chance while simultaneously depressing knowing their equally enthralling TimeSplitter’s series remained locked to Old-Gen Consoles for all eternity D:

But let’s get down to basics. Second Sight is a Stealth Action game, how does it play? Surprisingly well! The player can swap between a fixed camera, a third person and even a first person perspective and each one has their pro’s and cons. Third-Person is pretty much the main method of combat while Fixed Camera can help the player navigate larger set-pieces and highlight enemy locations while FPS sadly locks you in place but is fantastic for shooting goons behind some good cover.

Stealth itself is also astonishingly forgiving, allowing the player to try and evade Mook’s once you are spotted instead of going to an instant game over (Which was the style at the time!) so using your power’s to appropriately slip past the fuzz is very invigorating instead of frustrating!

Sadly, Second Sight is… Oh let’s face it, not only is it a bit dated, it’s just not a great port.

While I’m happy to see Second Sight relaunch, it’s pretty bare-bones and requires a bit of third-party bug-fixes and tinkering to get the proper playing experience. Even with that done, the main game has a bevy of problems.

Controls on the fly are incredibly clunky in a jam and while selecting weapons and powers pauses the game it is quite a momentum breaker. This also brings in a notable jarring problem on Normal Difficulty, John is an outright Bullet Sponge against opponents armed with a firearm but is an bonafide glass canon when facing anyone else, this coupled with either brain-dead AI that wouldn’t notice you breakdancing down the hall to being pinpoint assassins who invite Agent 47 over for Poker every Friday at the drop of a hat once a gun is introduced makes the overall difficulty very uneven. Enemy numbers are also just silly, with a near endless wave of armed guards scrambling out of bathrooms and broom closets once you are spotted makings picking off goons a moot point if all your work can be undone once a camera catches a glimpse of your gnarly bum peaking around a corner.

Level design is also pretty funky in places, with some fun and lively animated weapons limited to a single level in some instances while most of them tend to force the player down a single path with only one way of proceeding outside of a few that introduce vents to crawl past obstacles. Not to mention a SERIOUSLY under-utilized Squad Mechanic that coupled with the possessor ability could make for a game of it’s own! A squad-based psychic-action game would be AMAZING.

And yet here I am, recommending this despite all it’s crappy problems.

It’s not just the nostalgia talking, Second Sight has some serious design-chops and a near-timeless art style and a foreboding Main Theme that has stuck with me all these years later. It’s got some problems but all our favorites from the past do.

Either play it raw with low resolution or find yourself a fix. I played with 1600x1200 resolution and had a hell of a time giving Second Sight a Second Chance! ;)

Is it the original game on the original hardware? No. Nothing like this is ever going to be. But it's still Second Sight, and I'm never going to tell someone not to play Second Sight.

The only issues I ran into were some audio/visual desynch during a couple of cutscenes, which could be fixed by resetting the game, and the mouse/keyboard controls, which took all of 10 minutes to rectify with a controller config (steam://controllerconfig/11550/2664052980).

I have very fond memories of playing this game on the Xbox back when it first came out. I ended up finding the original disc among some other classics the other day and was surprised when I tried throwing it into my old 360 and the game wouldn't start because it wasn't supported! I couldn't stop thinking about playing the game once more and was extremely pleased to see it was actually supported on Steam! (I remember checking a few years ago & it was nowhere to be found.) I've played through the Intro, tutorial and a portion of the first level & I am already amazed at how much content I either missed or simply don't remember from my first play through! I've only just started but I'm loving this game all over again. For what it's worth, I would strongly recommend Second Sight whether it's your first time or you're replaying it like I am. A true classic.

A game of my child hood, I had a SECOND SIGHT that one day nearly 20 years later I could experience this game on a pc and my golly it did not dissapoint. Sure, the AI and controls are alittle wacky and janky but that is a part of this games charm. The story is still good and it is a nice, quick game to play to enjoy a good performance.

A classic game and a game from my childhood. Fondly remember it and I still think it's worth playing now. The story will literally give you a mindf**k.

That being said this is an old game. And it's a console port no less. Some things I found acceptable as a kid are no longer valid today. Such as the odd aiming system and the 4:3 aspect ratio.

Unfortunately the aiming system is a gameplay feature rooted from the console version of the game, as such it doesn't have any real fix and you just have to get used to it. When you unlock weapons you're forced to lock-on to enemies and THEN you can shoot their bodies. It's a weird system hard to describe until you've already played it.

What I can tell you to fix however is the resolution. https://thirteenag.github.io/wfp#secondsight Download this patch and follow the instructions. You'll get widescreen. I suggest using 1280x720 or 1600x900 as 1920x1080 can make the text look smaller. (don't tinker with in-game settings or you might have to restart the game)

If your game gets stuck in a weird framerate (mine was stuck in 36FPS) then restart your PC to get locked 60FPS. It worked for me.

For more issues refer to PCGamingWiki as always: https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Second_Sight

One weird issue that I can't seem to get my head around is that when I launched the game on my Windows 10 PC and I use Dark mode, my desktop would switch to Light mode after closing the game. It's a bit annoying to revert to darkness from Personalize every time I play this game. If anyone knows what causes this or know how to fix this then please lmk.

The game has unskippable cutscenes which you can't pause. Unfortunately there are a few of these minor issues that may hinder your enjoyment. You just gotta deal with it. If you can handle the mid-2000's gimmicks then a wonderful experience awaits.

It's a shame that the game is basically in the same state it was in when it was removed. But I am glad that it's back now and you have a legal method of supporting it.
I hope more old games like this will be brought back to Steam. <3

I sadly cannot give a positive review for this game. I have been asking for this game to come to Steam so that I could enjoy it once again, but it ran so badly that I had to ask for a refund. The screen stuttered and made it almost impossible to play.

I can deal with the limited choice of screen resolution, the dated graphics, and the lack of controller support, but I can't play a game that just flashes all the time on the screen. And I can play just about anything on my computer, so there's no excuses as to why this one failed so much.

I do want this game, but not in this condition.

This is a solid game that is worth playing through. It is important to note that this game is created by the same people that made Time Splitters- it is somewhat obvious from the character models. The story is interesting with a lot of layers to it; the characters are enjoyable; and the game mechanics are fitting for the overall atmosphere of the game. The game feels somewhat aged, but still has a unique charm to it.

The story is wild, as it is intended to be a mind fuck. It flows very well from scene to scene while raising more questions than answers. Every time you start to understand what's going on, you realize it's not actually what's going on. The game starts you off in a medical facility as John Vattic. He has no memory of anything, except that he has psychic powers. You get dragged back and forth between past and present, trying to understand why you are there. Things will be confusing, but that's only because the story doesn't always hand hold you through every detail.

The characters are interesting: some come off as generic soldiers + single personality trait, while the main characters you follow are more like people. Vattic has a lot of problems going on in his life, and he openly expresses that to the player. There are emotions here and there- and for a parapsychologist behind a desk, he endured a lot of combat. People die, or do they die? You wouldn't want a situation where people die. The cover of the game is accurate to the character.

The game play is from a third person perspective. You climb around, sneak, run from place to place, and do cool things with psychic powers. You can go invisible, throw balls of energy, heal, and astral project. You can toss people around like rag dolls and do all sorts of overpowered things. Though, you are often outnumbered, so even with those powers you will find yourself overwhelmed if you are not careful. The weapon mechanics is a little different; you lock onto targets, and move your cursor around in that space to either go for the center mass or aim for the head. The game is restrictive in the sense that you cannot just completely run around rampaging effortlessly, but it allows you to strategically engage in situations and feel good about the success of them.

If you want a game that has a mind fuck story involving paranormal psychic powers, then you need to play this game. Do not spoil anything for yourself; go in with an open mind and pay attention to the story. If you skip cut scenes and are impatient, the game won't do much to satisfy you.

Loved this game. It's Dated as fuck, but definitely enjoyable if you know what to expect when playing wonky-ass early to mid 2000's console shooters. If you're not familiar with this game though, you probably won't enjoy it. The port is just really fucking bad. The auto aim is awful and makes the game border on being unplayable. Camera is absolute dogshit as well. They basically ripped the ps2/gamecube version onto steam. Don't buy this version of the game if you've never played it before. You'll probably hate it.

I loved this game when I had it in Playstation.
I bought it so I could give it a review and to encourage to make the second one ( hopefully, someday )

At the time this game was amazing, great story, gameplay, cool steath mechanic, you could make people fear you and etc.
I bought it so I could have it in case of nostalgia attack and because I was sad when this game was taken out of Steam. Always regretted not buying it at the time.

But sadly is has not aged well :( . The resolution has not improved and the game makes windows bug like crazy.

IF A DEV READS: REMAKE, REMASTER, MAKE A 2! PLEASE! I would love to see this story with today's engine and posibilities.

Will launch with Proton but window mode is unattainable, and i've heard its nearly impossible on windows so, not surprised. Framerate is low, but also not surprised since its not fully supported by steam play. Perhaps with a future version of Proton we will get a fix. As for the resolution, the game was invented at the time of CRT and 4:3 early LCD technology. To get it to work on HD 16:9 you will have to play around with the config file. <<**Careful**, This can Brick your install, do at your own risk>> Overall at the time this was a good game and I hope I can play it again soon in the future.

Of course I recommend this game.
Yes it has mechanical issues, like the camera getting stuck between your character and the wall, yes aiming powers and weapons can be a bit of a nightmare, yes it's dated like a relic from Jurassic Park but you're not the that loves the game lime I did and still do. And I do...
At the time of writing this I have already sunk 9 hrs in the game (including pause time whilst running errands) but that does not compare to the hideous amount of my life that I wasted on it back when I succumbed to the devious joys on XBOX. Imagine the animation of Timesplitters 2 mixed with the psychic power variety of Psychonauts, a physics mechanic that would be later found in games like Star Wars Unleashed and flavoured with a rich a story, memorable characters, succinct dialogue, a variety of weapons and a PLOT!

Yes, I'm taking a mild jaunt down Memory Lane for a higher price than I was expecting, but for the joy and nostalgia is worth it for me.

My review is less on the technical issues and more on the control scheme. It's one hundred percent the console ports aiming system and it just does not work on mouse and keyboard. You will constantly fight with your camera and your aiming reticle to look where you want it to look, it's absolutely useless.

That said, if you do wish to brave the storm, you will need a mod or two. Specifically a resolution mod as this game doesn't support modern monitors. As for me, much as I love Second Sight, this port is not the ideal way to experience it whatsoever.

This was a great game back in the day, with a great story and game play despite some clunky controls.

But time has not been kind to this game.

In short do not buy in its currents state, if there an official or unofficial fix at some point then maybe but right now its a sloppy port that's barely playable.

Common issues include
-issues with frame rate people are commonly getting 5 fps
-resolution has to be modified through a config file in the install folder
-No native wide screen
-crashes and other issue
-no controller support
Yes its an old game but if a game wants today's money it should attempt to fit today's quality standards.

Second Sight is still fun to play today and stands out from other stealth action games. While the game isn't mind-blowing, it is definitely worth a try if it sounds even a bit interesting. The story is enough interesting to keep you playing, while the psychic abilities keep the gameplay entertaining.

The only real problems I have with the game are:
- Aiming with weapons feels clunky. In order to hit enemies, you have to look at the circle that's painted on enemy's body to see where you're shooting at. It is not unplayable but it could be better.
- You can't continue the game from the last checkpoint. While the levels aren't very long, it would be great if you didn't have to restart a level just because your house was on fire.

Make sure to check PC Gaming Wiki page for resolution fixes etc. I could play the game just fine on a modern potato without any fixes but the port isn't perfect.

The graphics in this game are looking pretty dated, but the psychic abilities at your disposal accompanied by a pretty compelling storyline which keeps you guessing more than make up for it, and help Second Sight to stand out amongst other first person shooters. Powerful psychics, guns, the NSA (even though they call it something else), and secret Russian research facilities make for a very entertaining game.
