"Well, professor, what do you anticipate? What does this dossier reveal to you?"
"Well..."

I faltered. On the one hand, these documents were meaningful to make sense of, but equally, the implications of what was unfolding before me were completely in the shadows. I would have to speculate.

"...I'll have to elaborate a little on that!"
"Go ahead."
"You see, there is a myth of an underworld in almost all cultures. It's where the dead return. In Greek mythology, it's Elysion for the blessed, for those who have indulged in transgressions against the gods, it's Tartarus. In Norse mythology it is Niflheim and Helheim, as well as Náströnd, as the place of punishment. Such places exist in the cultures of Mesopotamia, Egypt and many others."
"I am all ears."
"The entrances to these places are protected, or rather guarded, by entities. Demonic entities that do not grant access to the living. Some myths say the entrance is far to the west, where the sun sets, and there are quite a few so-called journeys to hell, like the Epic of Gilgamesh or the Aeneid of Virgil."
"Hmm."
"Or take this fragment of text here."

I flipped through the documents. I found a short Latin text by an unknown author who certainly knew Augustine's words of 'De civitate dei'.

"I quote: 'Gaze into the abyss and behold its magnificence. A bottomless glimpse into a myriad of stories written a long time ago and those yet to be told. A world cast from memories, sensations and an unshakable certainty of one's being. A core of countless wars, sustained by the pillars of eternity. A vision that rises from the plumage of all the cherubs and the omnipresent destructiveness of the creatures of the underworld. And yet here we stand on the edge of all worlds, asking ourselves the same question over and over again: 'How did I get here?'"
"What does all this tell us, Professor?"
"That you must have found the entrance to what is now called hell."
