Die CAT Afghanistan ist eine portierte Map aus OFP. Der OFP Style wurde auch gleich so beibehalten und es wurde auch nichts verändert. Eine wirkliche 1:1 Umsetzung!

In den BI-Foren wurde eine weitere Map für ArmA veröffentlicht. Dabei handelt es sich um eine Portierung aus OFP und trägt den Namen CAT Afghanistan. Für diese Map sollte der aktuelle BETA Patch 1.12 installiert sein. Es wird berichtet, dass man kaum Resourcen brauch, daher ist eine Sichweite bis 10.000 Meter möglich. Die Texturen sehen leider irgendwie ein bisschen veraltet aus, weil das Team PMC sie wirklich 1 zu 1 portiert hat. Es sind auch keine neuen Objekte zu finden, lediglich die Überarbeitungen sind vorgenommen worden, damit diese Map auch in Armed Assault stabil läuft.

From OFP history, we can show that AGS did two releases for this island: CAT's Afghanistan Revisited and CAT's Afghanistan Revisited 1.2. Just a small nostalgy trip for some of us.

There are some issues like faulty geometry's on few models (one or two buildings you can walk through walls) and the usual OFP style forest block floating here and there (nothing we can do about it now). Also as tip; dont fly fast moving aircrafts with 10km viewdistances, situation like that is prone to CTDs. Other than that, there should not be major issues. Depending if people like this or not, I might put in some more time to it and fix/tweak issues.

This addon doesn't require any other addons to work, including Queens Gambit. You only need default ArmA v1.12 installed.

CAT Afghanistan (AGS Afghanistan)v1.0

This is Afghanistan terrain and objects addon from Operation Flashpoint ported into Armed Assault. Its a simple port, only editing done was to fix several modeling errors and to port this to work in new ArmA environment (there is no normal/specular maps or merged textures). No content have been added (except terrain has no ocean now, ie this is a terrain, not an island) or removed. There are no soldiers or vehicles in this addon.

Background

Initially this addon was released to OFP by CAT_SHIT_ONE (gotta love his name), there was couple of versions released which caused havoc in mission making community as whole cities were removed from the island.

I was talking to AGS in 2007 and asked if I get permissions to port CAT/his Afghanistan addon, he said yes no problem. First work was done long time ago but now this last push was done in couple of days time to get this ready for release. Why to release? eh dunno, wanted some more porting training, O2 time and learn more things which I can put into PMC Editing Wiki (which I did btw) heh :)

Bugs

Overall this is low resolution OFP quality from back in the day, so dont expect much, you most likely cant take pimpin combat photography screenshots with this one. Actual bugs are; couple of buildings have broken/wrong geometry as you can walk through the walls. Some bushes object is missing a texture or its just black as it looks weird. Alot of floating "forest" (bushes at least) objects which is very well known ArmA technology issue and nothing can be done about it right now.

However the terrain and models have been edited in hopes of removing alot of arma.RPT errors and naturally I'd never release something that gives you an error before you even get to mission editor. The most serious RPT errors have been removed and even binarize is quite happy with the p3ds at the moment. Ingame, in actual mission conditions I dont know how many errors and bugs there is to discover. As much I've tested this, I havent seen anything major besides the above stuff.
