Solar 2 is an open-world, sandbox game set in an infinite abstract universe. Play constructively: grow your system, nurture life on your planets and attack enemy life in huge space battles. Play destructively: crash into other objects and cause chaos, use your orbiting objects like wrecking balls, steal planets from other systems.

Das Universum als Spielplatz

Du dachtest schon immer, dass du im falschen Körper geboren wurdest? Du wolltest schon immer ein gelber Zwergstern sein? Dann ist dies jetzt deine Gelegenheit!

Gameplay
„Solar 2“ ist ein Open-World Sandboxabenteuer. Oder sollte ich Open-Universe sagen? Denn wir fangen ein wenig nach dem Katamari Prinzip als kleiner Asteroid an, der sich auf der 2D Welt neue Asteroidenfreunde sucht, um sich zu vergrößern. Dann werden wir ein kleiner Planet, dann einer mit Lebensformen, bis wir schlussendlich zu verschiedenen Sternenklassen und am Ende zum schwarzen Loch werden können. Besonders die bewohnbaren Planeten sind ganz lustig, weil sich dort Zivilisationen bilden, die unseren Planeten schützen und uns mit kleinen Raumschiffen unterstützen. Verrücktes Universum! Das Spielprinzip ist einfach und eher dazu gedacht, sich selber rein zu finden. Allerdings wäre ein wenig mehr Tutorial schon hilfreich gewesen. So habe ich nur durch Zufall mitbekommen, dass ich als Planet durch Drücken der Leertaste meine durch meine Gravitation eingefangen Asteroiden verschlingen kann. Der Gang vom kleinen Asteroiden zum Sternenverschlinger dauert allerdings nur ca. 30 Minuten, daher gibt es auf jeder Ebene noch Aufträge zu erledigen, an denen wir uns in freier Reihenfolge versuchen können.

Story
Eine Geschichte haben wir nicht wirklich. Wir haben zwar für den Zeitvertreib ein paar Missionen, aber die sind komplett offen im Sandbox eingebaut. Allerdings sind die Texte vom Auftraggeber doch ganz amüsant geschrieben.

Grafik/Sound
Die Grafik von „Solar 2“ ist sehr einfach gehalten. Die Sterne sind zwar ein wenig wie Christbaumkugeln, sonst gibt es aber wenig Hintergrundgrafik.
Den Soundtrack empfand ich als sehr entspannend und sehr hilfreich dabei, mir die Möglichkeiten dieses Spiels langsam anzuschauen.

Fazit
„Solar 2“ gibt uns ein humoristische und etwa vereinfachte Astronomie vor, in der wir endlich der Himmelskörper sein können, den wir schon immer mal werden wollten. Wer hat als Kind nicht auch gedacht, wie toll das Leben als Neutronenstern sein könnte? Niemand? Ok, dann war ich wohl einfach ein komisches Kind. „Solar 2“ bietet kurzfristigen Spaß für einen entspannten Abend, eignet sich aber auch gut für Heranwachsende.

Ein gutes Spiel für zwischendurch, mehr aber auch nicht.
Solar 2 macht Spaß und ist eine gut gelungene Idee, wenn man mal runterkommen möchte und gerne Indie-Spiele spielt, sollte man dieses Spiel in seiner Sammlung hinzufügen!

Solar 2 ist das perfekte Spiel für zwischendurch. Man startet als kleiner Asteroid und arbeitet sich bis zum Big Crunch hoch. Zu den Missionen die man dabei erledigen kann gibt’s nicht viel zum Sagen außer, dass manche Missionen ziemlich schwer sind. (aus meiner Sicht)

Am Anfang mag man vielleicht denken, was dass doch für ein Mist ist..... (war bei mir zumindest so).
Nachdem ich mich etwas in das Spiel eingefunden habe und man weiß, was zu machen ist, macht das Game schon verdammt viel Spaß. Es ist ein nettes Spiel um die Zeit tot zu schlagen.

Im 75% Off für 2,24 Euro nice, ich wollt schon immer als Schwarzes Loch das Universum vernichten!
Allerdings habe ich sonst keinen Plan was zu tun ist, Übersicht, Kampagnen oder Einstellungsmöglichkeiten eher Fehlanzeige. Ein paar Erklärungen wären nice.

I remember playing this a decade ago on my tablet. I had so much fun going through the galaxy and seeing what this had to offer. It is a sandbox game with missions for those who want to have more to do. I wish there was a bit more, but it is perfect already.

I love the concept and it is fun for a little while and then you see how hard it is to make ANY progress in anything as the game has things crash into you even if you are carefully trying to bond to them. Or crash into you when you are trying to absorb them. Or another black hole just appears zooming by and blows away your black hole without you being able to steer or move at all. Kinda fun but very frustrating.

The only thing i see missing is some way to control units, like click on a location to send there, could give this game a couple more hours of playtime, and a zoom out option once you get too far

Relaxing

Solar 2 is a simple space sandbox game where you control a stellar object and traverse the universe.

The core gameplay loop is addictive and satisfying - consume other planets and asteroids and starts to grow, akin to the Katamari series and Flow.

Plenty of achievements of just the right amount of challenge - not too easy, not too difficult; gives the game plenty of replayability.

The story missions might be hit-and-miss humour-wise but they are distinct and fun.

The music is truly divine - alas, a few tracks have mastering issues, detracting from the otherwise incredible audial experience.

The backgrounds are not great - some nebulas look like a highly compressed JPEG image. And you see a lot of that, since the game is set in space - that is the main flaw of this title.

Verdict: a pleasant little game that you can toy with for a few evenings, grab it on sale.

I think I got this from a bundle. It's been a long time to remember it correctly.

But what I do remember is that this game is an absolute gem.

The physics, control, mechanics, ambient sound, music tracks, gameplay, achievements etc. are just so balanced and perfect.

Not to forget that the game is extremely fun.

An instant recommend from my side. One of the games that you need to absolutely play.

10/10 from my side.

I used to play this for hours back on the 360 and have been missing it for years and once i found it on steam I have felt like I have just found a long lost friend. Very amazing and charming game.

You grow your asteroid into a planet which becomes a star and eventually a black hole. Or build up the planets you grab, forming them into stars, building a multi-star system. You'll know the game has grabbed you when you tell yourself just five more minutes and 3 hours later.....

No better feeling than growing into a black hole, having a planet teeming with life doing a death spiral around you, fruitlessly sending space ships out into your gaping maw, and wondering how many centuries have passed on their planet before you gobble them up and the rest of the universe with them.

Solar 2 is a hidden treasure of timelessness. It is an easy concept to pick up on and offers game play that you can revisit every few years for several years to come.

If you are looking at this a few years from now, still get the game. It will be fun.

I just love this game. Yes, my play time on this account is fairly low, but altogether I have maybe 30-40 hours combined on this title. The early stages kind of remind me of the Tasty Planet games, slowly increasing your mass by bumping into and absorbing other objects, before turning into a kind of conquest game, taking planets away from other stars, before returning to its roots of a Tasty Planet-esque eat-em-up as you consume everything in your path as a black hole.
It isn't a tricky game, it isn't a completely enthralling game either. It's just something you can put on for a few minutes at a time and have fun going around wrecking havoc on unsuspecting space rocks before going back to something else.

Avoid. It is incredibly boring, and somewhat frustrating when the game functions at all. I gave it a serious attempt to get into the actual game, after fighting with the in-game resolution setting (which seems to get reset each launch). The menu is cutoff, the window size is wrong for the resolution, or the whole thing doesn't even load.

Quite interesting and relaxing game. Small downside is that some of the quests are quite difficult or just weird to do. That's why I didn't do all of them. Luckily they are optional if you don't aim for all the achievements.

Solar 2 is one of Steam's best-kept secrets. It's equal parts space physics simulator and arcade game.

I find it very relaxing and entertaining to zip around space, gobbling up asteroids into a giant star-katamari and evolving my planets.

It's not a perfect game. I wish that there was a better way to battle star-vs-star with the AI. The best strategy I've found for stealing planets is to knock them out of orbit with a shielded planet, then chase them down. This works, but it's very damaging to your suns and planets, and tends not to be worth the effort. The best strategy for growth is roaming about the galaxy looking for free planets and asteroids to grow your system.

No matter. Solar 2 is not really designed for long-term play. I find it works best to pop in for a while and just knock around a bit. See if you have the patience to develop an 8-star system, for instance.

The missions offer a nice break to the gameplay, but some are easy and some are very frustrating. It's a mixed bag.

A Multiplayer mode would have been welcome, too. Still, I find little to complain about in Solar 2. It's not perfect, but it is a light and fun sandbox game, which lets you decide how you want to have fun. Try the Demo.
