Bummer! World War III happened and killed most of the world?s population. The ones that got toasted were the lucky ones. Survivors live in constant fear of being murdered or enslaved by violent gangs, renegade military units and, of course; mutants.

Outfitted with a heavily armored car, unlimited firepower and a thirst for vengeance, our Heroine ? the Wasteland Angel roams the radioactive wastes, travelling from one God-forsaken town to the next, protecting survivors from being enslaved. She?s on a mission, to defend those that can?t defend themselves.

Wasteland Angel is a throw-back to the era of vintage arcade shooters, where players fend off waves of enemies and ultimately face-off against epic end-level bosses. From a top-down isometric view, players pilot the Wasteland Angel?s overpowered vehicle as its dual machine guns cut a swath across the terrain. To handle whatever the gangs, muties and renegades throws her way, Wasteland Angel has upgradeable weapons and ammo that can rip enemies from this life and toss them into the next.

Grafik ist okay, Gameplay naja, ist ein klassisches Defendergame. Trotzdem muss ich sagen, das es mir Spaß macht. XD

Wasteland Angel

POSITIVES

+ mehrere Fahrzeugwaffen (darunter Minen, Napalm, EMP und Nuklearwaffen)

NEGATIVES

- immer der gleiche Soundtrack in einer Endlosschleife
- dafür dass man oben sogar den Tag „Weibliche Darstellerin“ nutzt, bleibt diese doch absolut blass und unrelevant
- Autos steuern sich wie Panzer in niedriger Schwerkraft
- zu kleine Karten
- Gegnerwellen mit immer gleichen Gegnern
- keine Abwechslung in den Missionen
- kaum Motivation
- schnell langweilig
- sehr kurze Spielzeit von nur 3 Stunden

FAZIT

Keine Ahnung was mich dazu verlockt hat, mir Wasteland Angel von 2011 zuzulegen? Vermutlich war es der Spieletitel in Kombination mit einem billigen Preis.
Ich hatte wohl gehofft dass es ähnlich viel Spaß machen könnte wie Super Cars 1+2 von 1990, das ebenfalls aus der isometrischen Top-Down-Perspektive gespielt wird und sich Autos ebenfalls mit Fahrzeugwaffen bekämpfen. Aber weit gefehlt. Wasteland Angel ist einfach unmotivierend, repetitiv und langweilig.
Dieses Spiel kann ich wirklich niemandem empfehlen.

Story: 10/10 mit einer postapokalyptisch Welt macht man nichts Falsch
Ideen: 9/10 2D und 3D in einem Spiel Genial
Grafik: 8/10 gute Grafik, für das was es ist
Gameplay: 5/10 leider ein bissel schwer zu steuern
Spielspass: 9/10 viele Gegner, viele Level und Highscore—-Wunderbar

Fazit: Wasteland Angel ist ein Wunderbares Spiel was ich alten Arcade Spieler und denen die es werden wollen währmstens ans Herz lege

Ich habe das Spiel nur zu Ende gebracht, weil ich die Errungenschafften haben wollte. Ansonsten bietet es überhaupt keinen Anreiz weiter zu spielen. Es ist irgendwie immer das gleiche und sehr verbuggt.

I finished this Game only for Archievments.
There is absolutely no incentive to keep playing on. It's always the same and very buggy.

Ich habe die Demo gespielt und dabei gedacht...
Hmm Postapokalyptisches Setting, Waffenstrotzende Karre und dabei in der Einöde eine Siedlung beschützen.
Klingt doch eigentlich ganz Vielversprechend.

Nur das es nicht mehr wird.

Nach ca. 3h hat man das Spiel durch.

Im Prinzip spielt man das gleiche Level immer wieder.
Der unterschied liegt nur in der Anzahl Städte die es zu beschützen gilt (1 oder 2).
Das aussehen der 3 unterschiedlichen Gegnertypen.
Und die grobe Farbgestaltung der Umgebung.

Sollte man nicht gerade die Highscore Liste stürmen wollen, einfach die Demo 3h lang spielen.
Im Grunde ist dies Vergleichbar.

My expectations were low for a $10 but I had some extra money in paypal so I figured, what the hell. The game was actually a pleasant surprise. It was a fun, Vigilante 8 style car shoot-em up. The levels get quite challenging. If you're looking to burn a weekend and have a spare 10$ then go for it.

Usually I like this style of game but unfortunately it's too basic, lacks content, and is buggy AF. Hard pass. :-(

Repetitive, unsatisfying and just a little buggy to top it off. Only bother if you can get it on a deep sale for $2 or less, that is the proper value for 2-3 hours of some mild arcade fun. There's the base of a good idea here but the lack of polish in enemy behavior and loads of weak design just kill it. There's never any need for strategy or much skill. Do laps around the towns while holding down left click. Hit right click if you want to, it isn't necessary. You can have as much success fighting the enemies that seek you by backing up slowly and shifting left and right while firing. Hilariously the enemies lack even the basic AI to hit you every time, capable of parking themselves when you do, getting stuck on a firing angle that always misses and sitting there, shooting fruitlessly forever.

I've got no problem with simple games. Some of my favorites are just refining the same behavior until perfection. Wasteland Angel never leaves the tutorial and the few times it does are painfully bad. Bosses are the same identical meat blob with one attack that can only be damaged by power-ups you farm by driving circles around the map to farm them from enemies. Then you use the power up and pray the boss will actually interact with it(napalm, mines) so you can finish the fight. To shake things up the final boss will randomly not register hits of EMP, tactically wasting your time to weaken your mental resolve. You fight three of the bosses twice in a row because I guess 21 levels doesn't sound as good as 24 levels in the sales pitch.

The soundtrack is decent, the graphics are OK except for the hilariously bad lack of animations at times(the wobbling helicopters are my favorite), there's nothing to write home about in encounter or map design(some are more annoying than others) and the cherry on top is the bugs. Five times I approached a wall, went up it slightly and got permanently stuck. If I was lucky an enemy would hit me and free me or shoot me and give me a respawn. Otherwise time to restart the level. Enemies get stuck in their own spawns frequently and you can't heal between waves while they exist. This can persist for several waves. Enemies can spawn off the map too but at least you can shoot them to finish the level if it happens in the last wave. Hopefully. I was able to each time so I can only imagine those cursed few who have to restart with 99.9% of the level completed.

There's a story but it amounts to nothing and ends on a cliffhanger. Then there's a bolted on extra chapter that isn't part of the main campaign that continues that story and ends on a cliffhanger. 10 years later and I don't think Wasteland Angel is getting a second bonus episode. I guess the story gives us nice art of an attractive woman.

$10 for a game you can 100% in a light afternoon, the only replay value being if you possess the exact type of inexplicable obsession to care very deeply about higher scores in this game? Don't bloat your backlog.

This game isn't bad as bad as people say. Gave me the vibe of a top down, super light weight version of Twisted Metal. (That's being super generous.) But, I had a ton of fun with this so far. It's not worth $9.99, not even 99c. If you are reading this without a copy you should just find a free bundle that includes this. Good for 1-2 hours of fun.

Really enjoyed this title! Shocked to see has mixed reviews. This game has a lot to offer. The visuals are really nice. You fight wave after wave of enemy vehicles whilst defending the civilians from being vacuumed up by the enemy. There are three different minigames inbetween the normal levels and bosses. These are survival, elimination and a racing circuit. Nice to mix it up with those. It can be a little bit repetitive, but other than that it plays real nice!

Wow this game has taken a ton of crap in the reviews. It is also constantly bundled so surely it's absolute garbage? Well it turns out that's not the case. It is a quite nice shooter that will give you entertainment for some hours. Nothing fancy but everything just works. '2D overhead view' shooting and protecting towns. '3D bumper cam' shooting during bonus levels etc etc. Pure shooting-driving arcade. I got 3 hours of it. Thats the max you want to play this unless you want to go for a 100% game.

I can understant the critics when the game is full priced but as soon as it's even a bit discounted it's definitely worth the small price. Just pay reasonable price and keep your expectations at a reasonable level and you are fine.

Oh yeah. bring a gamepad if you can.

there are a couple redeeming sides to this classical top-down (mostly) driving-shooting game - story, as much as this type of game needs one, and the fact that it partially is a good bit of fun.

it takes a couple hours to run this through on easy and considerably more on hard or nightmare where you definitely will retry and retry and retry several of the fairly lengthy levels. with how repetitive it is, i do not see many people wanting to do that.

i cannot really recommend this is earnest. there are bits of fun in there but as this game type/genre is seeing revival recently, if you really need to mindlessly drive and shoot in top-down perspective - you would probably be better off with another game.

technically, it is mostly competent. while not looking exceptional, it looks good or ok - except for the out-of-box 1st person perspective bonus levels where models have the same level of detail as top-down perspective and look like something from end of 90s. control scheme is adequate and keys can be remapped. for some reason every time i started the game from steam, it decided it needs to run a visual c installer with the uac prompt this causes but that might be just my environment.

the only technical gripe is about clipping problems. when you run into something that obstructs the screen, you can get stuck and not even see which way you are facing, making it really difficult to get free quickly. also, the decision to reverse the direction immediately when you drive straight out the level limits is occasionally very annoying, especially in the last set of levels where one of the cities is right at the edge of level.

unfortunately, there is the main downside - this game is repetitive. repetitive, repetitive, repetitive.

you have 3 or 6 different levels and 3 sets of enemies plus bosses but there is no real variance.
- levels are functionally all the same - first you defend one city at day, then at night, then 2 cities on similar map at day, then at night. repeat that three times.
- there are three types of enemies - one that fights you, one that steals civilians and one that does both. the three sets - they are just different skins for the same functions.
- bosses are formulaic as well. big, deal and absorb a lot of damage, can be killed with gathered superweapons.

This game somehow reminds me of the mid-90s sci-fi flick Tank Girl, but maybe the similarity begins and ends with the post-apocalyptic setting, the cartoonish art style and the main characters, both girls whose favourite activity seems to be shooting mutants. You take on the role of Angel, who drives around in her car and saves the inhabitants of post-world war III settlements from mutant attacks. So much for the backstory.

Gameplay wise, Wasteland Angel is a no-nonsense top-down shooter. You're looking at a desert landscape from an isomotric perspective, drive around with a car whilst shooting at other cars that likewise shoot at you. That's pretty much all there is. Your main armament consists of two fixed guns, additional weapons can be aquired by driving over power-ups. Each level has three stages and, after you defeat the stages final boss in the third, a short bonus stage that leaves the top-down view and switches to a first-person perspective. The game never breaks from this pattern.

Your car can be controlled with the keyboard or a controller, both work equally well and what you prefer is just a matter of personal preference.

I chose to write a negative review but that doesn't mean there's no fun to be had. There certainly is. There's nothing wrong with the simplistic approach to vehicular combat, driving around in a car blasting everything in sight. The game plays smoothly, the controls are responsive and intuitive, there's nothing bad to say about the sound effects, music and voice-overs and the visuals, while definitely not on par with bigger budget titles, are pretty much what can be expected from an indie game, at least they won't give you eye cancer.

The main problem with Wasteland Angel is that its initial appeal wears thin all too fast. It's incredibly repetitive. Every level offers the exact same scenario, level structure, you're fighting the same enemies again and again, even the environment looks exactly the same in every level.

The game is very short and not particularly challenging. You can easily play through the whole game in one session. While most players probably consider this a downside, achievement hunters might appreciate the fourty easily obtainable unlocks.
