ENTER THE NEW WORLD OF GEKOKUJO WITH YOUR WOLF COMPANION
GEKOKUJO: Vagrant Crown is a third-person Living World RPG built around traveling through the world from behind your character.
Journey with your Wolf Companion across roads, forests, rivers, and routes leading toward settlements. Along the way, you will meet NPCs with routines, memories, and relationships of their own. They continue to act beyond the player's immediate surroundings, and the people you meet, the choices you make, and the bonds you form will shape the events of your journey.
A THIRD-PERSON 3D RPG CURRENTLY IN DEVELOPMENT
Development is shifting away from the previous strategy-map-centered structure toward a third-person 3D RPG where the journey takes place directly in the world.
We are rebuilding the scale and shape of the terrain, roads, forests, rivers, vegetation, and environmental details to make traveling with the protagonist and wolf feel like a central part of the game. Walk and run animations, camera behavior, and the UI are also being improved for the new third-person experience.
A LIVING WORLD
NPCs are intended to be more than quest markers or stationary conversation points.
- They follow daily routines involving travel, work, and rest.
- They remember relationships with the player and other NPCs.
- Events and rumors in the world can influence how people behave.
- Characters who join the Party remain the same people who live in the wider world.
Our long-term goal is to build a world populated by many more NPCs with ambitions, relationships, and roles in its ongoing changes.
WOLF COMPANION, PARTY MEMBERS, AND QUEST / EVENT COMPANIONS
The new GEKOKUJO is being designed around several distinct kinds of companions who may travel alongside you.
- Wolf Companion ? The protagonist's wolf travels alongside the group without occupying one of the three Party slots.
- Party Members ? Some NPCs from the Living World are being developed as persistent companions who can retain their names, relationships, experience, and Jobs while traveling with you.
- Quest / Event Companions ? Temporary companions may join for a specific purpose, such as an escort, guidance, a joint battle, or an event unfolding in the world, before departing when that objective is complete.
By separating permanent Party Members from temporary companions, we aim to create journeys shaped by encounters, shared battles, and farewells. Field following, combat participation, and departure when an objective is completed are currently being tested.
BATTLE, JOBS, AND PARTY DEVELOPMENT
A new Battle System is currently in development for combat within the third-person field. Weapon reach, attack timing, enemy targeting, and the flow from the beginning to the end of a battle are being rebuilt around this new structure.
Vagrant, the first Main Job in the new system, is undergoing gameplay testing as we connect its Job Level progression, unique abilities, and adaptation-based mechanics to live combat.
The foundation for a three-character Party, including the protagonist, is also in development. Our goal is for an NPC from the Living World to join the Party without becoming a separate party-only copy, retaining their name, relationships, experience, and Job after leaving. The Wolf Companion is designed to travel separately from the three Party slots.
