I brushed this game off when I first got it cause it wasn't really what I was looking for in a roguelike game, but I finally returned to it and it's actually very good truth be told. I think I didn't like it at first cause it's a point and click game with tower defense mechanics to it. My advice to new players is to look at a few YouTube videos online if the game confuses you. Utilize that spacebar pause button and read what stuff actually does. Be okay with dying a lot. Easy mode is hard and very easy mode is normal.

Followed this game more or less since it's initial release. The game is an amazing blend of tower defense, roguelike, dungeon crawling, resource management and RPG. However - The game has had game breaking bugs since it's very inception and none of the developers have done a single thing to patch them out. Desync after desync after desync in MP.

If you want to buy this game to just play single player? I'd recommend it well enough. But... If you want to play using the multiplayer option? Forget about it. 3 in every 4 games will bug out by floor 6-10 and be unrecoverable losing you hours and hours of progress and force you to start all the way back at the beginning.

You. Have. Been. Warned.

Game is pretty fun, WHEN IT WORKS.

Single player is fine and works as expected.

Multiplayer crashes frequently when changing floors, it doesn't matter which of my friends host but when it crashes it also corrupts the save game so that you can not resume.

Looking online this has been a problem for years and hasn't been fixed.

Can't recommend.

I honestly am unsure how people enjoy this game. On the surface it looks really enjoyable, but then you realize three things.
-The UI SUCKS. Absolutely awful. I get they want it to be clean, but I shouldn't have to flip through menus and drop down boxes to use a hero ability.
-The entire game, entire game, every level is solely relying on map RNG and drop RNG. The only time I made it far, was when I had a perfect map and great drops/research options. Otherwise no amount of skill can really let you win. At least, from my 5 hours of playing.
-Tower defense. The building system is atrocious. The amount of things you can make and what some of these do is promising, but the fact that it's essentially turn based and also solely relying on that RNG to even let you build anything is silly.

Anyways, game is fun but I can't really understand how people preach that this game is outstanding when there's enough here to form some degree of a complaint for the base mechanics.

Sort of ok; but clunky interface really detracts from the experience. Current mechanics would have worked well on a light-weight easy-going roguelike, but right now the gameplay is not deep enough to really warrant the amount of fiddling.

-PLAYED ON FREE WEEKEND-

It's a fun enough little rogue lite/like game with a nice pixel art style and some neat mechanics built in.

You crash land your ship in some sort of subterranean complex and have to open rooms in order to find the elevator to the next floor, with every room being a dice-roll on what's inside. Rooms can have resources, shops, other heroes, or (as is USUALLY the case) just a butt-load of monsters and the chance to trigger an invasion from other rooms on the floor.

It's a neat premise and an appealing style, but if you have ANY reservations about being screwed over by random chance over and over.... and over..... and over AGAIN, then I'd steer well clear of this one. There's no meta progression to curb the RNG screwing and it's a repetitive theme no matter how far along you get.

Kind of a SIDEWAYS THUMB for me; I can SEE the appeal here, but for me it's just aggravating, not fun.

I enjoy this game but I hate crashing and losing my run or getting a subpar recovery where I'm 3 floors behind and that amazing run I had. Now has bad rng and leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I play this game casually and this crashing and loss of progress really hurts my will to start another run.

Seamless genre-blend

In Dungeon of the Endless, a game best described as a tower defense, dungeon crawler roguelike with RPG elements, every bit of the genre-blend is as highlighted as the next, while still finding room to deliver exposition and lore, adding an additional layer of mystery to the experience, without ever feeling overbearing.

As the story goes, Success, a prison barge, is shot down while on route to the planet of Auriga, the epicenter of many events in Amplitude Studios’ Endless universe. A number of crew members manage to escape in drop pods, but upon crash landing find themselves trapped within an underground complex from which they must escape.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2653022239

As Dungeon of the Endless is a roguelike, this is where each of your runs will begin. You select up to four heroes for your party and the drop pod you’ll be dropping in, with each drop pod featuring different modifiers. You’re tasked with beating 12 monster-infested floors in order to escape the dungeon, each floor presenting a level within the run. Die trying, or manage to beat the game, and you get to do it all over again. There’s no reloading from a previous floor or anything like that, although you are allowed to save your game ironman style. Meta progression works by unlocking new drop pods and heroes for subsequent runs, should you fulfil certain requirements while playing.

There are a lot of things you’ll need to keep track of. Navigating each floor is done in a turn-based, dungeon crawler fashion. You open doors, looking for the elevator that will take you to the next floor. Each opened door functions as a turn, providing you with income, separated into four resources; Industry, Science, Food and Dust.

Industry plays into the tower defense aspect of the game, and is used for building modules – with each room having a fixed amount of slots they can be built on. These modules can affect anything from your income, to buffing heroes and assisting you in fighting the incoming onslaught of monsters, there being a chance of one each time you open a door. Monsters can’t just spawn anywhere, which is where the Dust resource comes into play. Dust is the only resource that can’t be obtained from modules, at least not by ordinary means, or carried over between floors, and is what you use to supply power to the rooms. If a room has no power, none of the modules built in it can function. Furthermore, it can serve as a spawn point for the monsters, as long as no hero is present. The more doors you open, the more dangerous the current floor gets. You also aren’t able to power any room, but only those with a direct path to the room you started in, in which the Crystal – the object you’re using to power this whole endeavor – is located. Dust also functions as the Crystal’s health bar, lost when monsters get their chance to whack it. The more health you lose, the less rooms you’ll get to power, making subsequent turns even harder. There’s a lot of planning and strategy involved – and when you take into account all the things you can discover while exploring the dungeon, be it items or research nodes where you unlock new modules in exchange for Science, it becomes important to have a flexible strategy. It’s very important that you have it at least somewhat nailed down before you open the next door, as at that point the game cares little for turns. Combat unfolds in real time and the build speed of your modules slows down to a crawl. You do have the ability to pause, but this does little to ameliorate the situation later in the game.

Once you find your exit, you must decide whether to keep exploring, knowing the ever-increasing risk, or make a break for it. Should you decide to leave, it’s up to one of your heroes to carry the Crystal through the dungeon to the elevator, at a vastly decreased movement speed and no combat capabilities, all the while endless waves of enemies spawn. The modules you’ve built and other heroes must hold the line, but any hero not present at the exit once the Crystal reaches it and you decide to leave will be lost forever. It’s a thrilling final effort for each floor that puts the strategy you’ve been abiding by to the test one last time.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2653023081

You spend your Food on your heroes, as it’s used for healing, leveling up and recruiting new members into your party. Heroes not only have different stats, which affect more than their combat effectiveness, but also active abilities, passives, item slots and backstories. Surprisingly, the backstories aren’t just text blurbs you can read to add a little extra depth to the character, but set up storylines they can have between one another. They also have little quips triggered by different actions, fleshing out their personalities all the more, and tying nicely into their strengths and weaknesses. Complete a storyline by keeping certain heroes alive together for a number of floors, and you’ll unlock unique passives. There’s also a Photo Album accessible from the main menu that gets filled out not only as you complete these storylines, but also regularly progress through the game and fulfil other requirements. On top of including some great art, it also provides additional context for the game.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2653022317

Dungeon of the Endless can not only be enjoyed solo, but with up to 3 friends. Unfortunately, it is where the game’s issues I’ve previously hinted at with the way you control your heroes come to their full fruition, as pausing is disabled in multiplayer. The game does possess a lengthy list of keybinds, as anything you can click on is most likely bound to a hotkey. However, it’ll take some real StarCraft proplay-like mastery to nail it all with everything that’s happening. I’ve lost countless runs to not being able to heal my heroes on time, as a group of late-game enemies can usually ka-chunk them in a couple of hits. To make matters worse, online play completely gets rid of hero quips and storylines, so you shouldn’t bother with it if that aspect of the game is what you’re most interested in.

Dungeon of the Endless is a gorgeous game. Not only are there plenty of beautiful particles, but it all runs so smoothly maxed out, thanks to the ridiculously low system requirements. The rooms of the dungeon have a great sense of atmosphere to them and are surprisingly highly detailed and look very lived-in, further letting you speculate and go on tangents on what exactly was happening in this facility before you came along. Each of the heroes is also beautifully animated, with a lot of nuance and little details in the way they do things, which – again – further adds to their personalities. Meanwhile, the soundtrack follows what’s happening on screen rather well, but never truly stands out. There are some weird bugs to encounter, like having a hero refuse to attack anything ’till the end of the floor, but in the ~90 hours I’ve spent with the game so far, these never ruined a run or were frequent enough for me to make a more extensive note of.

Overall, we’re dealing with a high-quality title. It’s rare to find a game in which every element was given as much thought as the next. Sure, you can find spots that could use some tweaking if you looked hard enough, but you’d be missing all the other ones the game knocks out of the park. Not to mention, the monsters would have gotten to you by that point already.

A genius little roguelike that captures the spirit of a lot of different genres. There’s a lot of randomness to it, so you’re basically tasked with doing the best you can with the hand you’re dealt. You control a small squad of guys as they’re recovering from a crash landing, helping them transport their last source of energy to the exit -- several floors above them. The energy crystal you carry around is sort of the catalyst. It’s your main objective, but also your only source of electricity as you traverse the levels and power up the different facilities. Every room you explore drains some amount of energy. And every room is contingent on a supply of power from an adjacent room -- creating a power grid across the level.

Naturally, there’s not enough juice to go around, making it super important to prioritize what parts of the environment you connect. It all has a turn-based feel to it, at least in the same vein as Rogue treats its passage of time. Because the only instance when you’re on the clock in any meaningful way is when you turn doorknobs to explore adjacent rooms. Which means a lot of time is spent preparing: Utilizing defensive capabilities in rooms you’ve powered up. Setting up traps and turrets. Positioning your guys for incoming attacks.

Enemies are connected to power in a huge way. They’ll single out your energy core every chance they get. If they reach it, it’s game over. At least after a beating. And the only way to mitigate these offensives is by configuring the grid of powered rooms -- lighting them up and terminating them as a vector of attack. Rooms left in darkness, however, are likely to have enemies spawn and attack from. Again underscoring how important it is to be smart with how you explore and configure your power grid.

Dungeon of the Endless is just one of those infinitely fascinating designs that come together so well. Highly recommended, if you enjoy the idea of hard-as-nails Roguelikes with a more strategic layer on top and some Tower Defense thrown in for good measure.

Amazing tower-like defense game, with very interesting characters, and can offer quite the challenge for most. The only big issue with the game is crashing and losing saves, but if you can get past that, the game is great for what it is. It's fun solo and more so with friends, and the game will make you really use your brain on harder stages but yet some how relaxing.

Love this game, its combination of turn gameplay and classic top down shooter is unique, and really makes the game. A few words of advice:
This game is hard. Like, really hard, but fun even if you don't win haha
Play with friends, it makes it easier, and much more enjoyable.

Unfortunately, this game contains quite a few run ending bugs, which feel very unfair, and honestly is kinda turning me off this game as a whole. I can see the potential, but the semi frequent crashes, character kicks, and freezes really ruins this game.

You are the survivor of a crashed escape pod from a prison ship, and you have crashed so far down, the entire game is a quest to navigate to the elevators on every floor and make your way back to the surface with your pod's power core.

Every door you open is one turn, so you have the time between doors to think and strategize how you are going to proceed. You build generators in build-nodes and collect resources from those generators with every door you open. You must also build defences as every door you open could have monsters and every unlit room that you have already discovered could spawn additional monsters if you're not standing in it.

Every randomly generated dungeon brings its own opportunities and perils as you deal with whatever the gimmick of your ship's power core is.

Dungeon of the Endless can be a challenge, but it's fun even if you lose, and there's a lot to be said for that. But, in my opinion, it's only fun if you have a party. So, find some friends and play it.

Crazy-satisfying roguelike that plays best with 2-3 human players. It's decent single-player but it really, really shines with a couple of friends.

This has become one of my favorite social games of all time, and is easy for any of your friends to pick up while presenting a fantastic challenge for the whole group. It's simple to drag friends into and get them hooked...muahahaha.

As a single-player game it's a little multitasking-heavy, so if that's your thing you may love it. You need to control four characters at once in single-player. In multiplayer, you can split your party among the human players, making it significantly more playable and easier to execute tasks. It also alleviates some of the tedium, letting you give specific resources to specific players.

Overview:

Dungeon of the Endless executes the roguelike genre excellently by offering an assortment of playable characters, rule sets, and randomized levels. Your characters start off crashed on an alien planet at the bottom of a closed facility and must make their way to the elevator room for the floor. Gameplay is intuitive and subtly complex requiring careful planning and mastery of the mechanics to successfully fend off hoards of enemies potentially lurking behind each closed door. Victory is rewarding and more options become available as you unlock characters and different rule sets.

Pro(s):

Variety: A decent selection of characters can be unlocked, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. Completing challenges unlocks new rule sets. Levels are randomly generated.
Gameplay: Simple yet complex. You can pause to carefully plan out moves. Characters can be equipped with geared like an RPG. Modules can be built in each room to provide resources, buffs, or defenses against waves of enemies. Each closed door is like a turn with a random outcome when opened.

Con(s):

Deceptive Difficulty: There's Easy and Too Easy. Easy is not really easy. On this difficulty the randomness can quickly destroy a run even if you're maximizing every advantage and being very careful. Too Easy seems just right though. Challenging, yet doable.

Conclusion:

An excellent game to challenge your mind with the ability to drop in and out whenever you have time to play. Wonderful pixel art atmosphere and variety. Definitely recommend if you are a fan of similar style games.

Score: 9.8 / 10

*Multiplayer is also available as an extra bonus, though personally I feel the game is more enjoyable solo. It's also easier in multiplayer as each person gets their own resources. It is nice to have the option though.

As you start to learn the mechanics, it's really fun, but the tutorial ends after teaching you about 3% of the game. The easy mode probably fits into what easy mode is considered on Dark Souls if there were such a thing. Basic strategies around light management to control spawns, dungeon exploration, choke points, player classes, etc are never taught, and there is no intuitive learning of strategies as you die. The randomized heroes to start are a huge disadvantage if you get a weak pair and aren't even aware that you get randomized heroes or that they have unique strengths and weaknesses.

Overall, I can see a lot of replay value and enjoyment after you've played it for a few hundred hours. But to get to that few hundred hours, you'll have to endure hundreds of deaths and frustration, or read some of the guides and then endure slightly fewer hundreds of deaths and frustration. And for some people, this type of game is what drives them. But I'll pass.

Pros:
Fantastic, novel idea for a roguelite.
Each game is different.
Great replayability.
Rush of adrenaline when running for the exit!

Cons:
Some of the skills have very cryptic descriptions which I had to google in order to figure out how to apply it. Wish all the characters had interactions with each other, not just some.
Xbox 360 controller have some weird interactions, certain buttons are not mapped.

The game can be both addictive and repetitive depends on the type of gamer you are. Like Spelunky, the concept is very similar on the rules about unlocking contents, random dungeon generation, shopkeepers and probably difficulty, but rather than the normal spelunking, this happens in the Endless Universe (The Planet Auriga), and the game play isn't action platformer based but rpg dungeon crawler + strategy Tower Defence based. So, for Sadist gamers, they might not want to do the repeating runs for full lore completion and get pawned by the monsters so often that... well.. until we've gotten used to it... but for the masochist players, they will love this as much as they love Spelunky i bet, unless brainwork isn't what they like and they prefer some action platforming.

With that said, the gameplay itself can be long/short depends on your strategy/luck/how used to you are to the dungeon mechanisms, a full run can take up from 1 to 5 hours depends on the handicap you've chosen and how fast can your chosen hero moves. But it could be faster in co-op mode, and co-op made the repetitive part bearable and fun imo.

If you like tower defence game and like dungeon crawler both, then this game is really for you.

For those who are new to the Endless Universe... Here's a small reference on what their games are about:

Endless Space 1&2: The Big picture, you conquer the star systems, colonize new planets and expand your empire. Strategy Management Game that's pretty hard on the paperwork.

Endless Legend: In this series you get to see what's actually happening on the surface of the planets. Strategy civilization building game that's the most common genre for Strategy games.

Dungeon of the Endless: In this series, you are INSIDE the planet trying to escape the dungeon to reach the surface after a crash emergency landing on your escape pod. Tower Defence (turn based) + Dungeon Crawler type game play.

Love Thyself - A Horatio Story: In this series, you are INSIDE the mind of one of the resident (clone) of the Horatio empire, you get a good view of what's inside in first person view point. Visual Novel type game play with love story.

So it's up to you to decide which you like best and suits your play style best, but might eventually ended up trying all of them just to get a view of how the Endless Universe looks like from different perspective.

Dungeon of the endless has given me many great hours of play both single player and multiplayer. However due to its nature as a rouge like game the run ending bugs in both single player and multiplayer makes me not willing to recommend the game. I have played this game on three different machines all have had issues over many years of owning the game. It has gotten more stable but even recently with how long this has been released i continue to get bugs that ruin runs. Which for a rouge like is unacceptable.

Dungeon of the Endless is a lot of fun. I am dreadful at it, but I have an excellent time... you know, dying and stuff.

But then, I am one of the few and illustrious who choose to play on easy difficulty. Make no mistake, I would die like a dog on ‘too easy’ difficulty also; but then, I keep telling myself that I have my standards.

In short, I got 99 problems, but too easy ain’t one.

Some day, I do hope to yank a whole lot less. It is a tribute to the developers that I keep getting beat like a red-headed stepchild and yet continue coming back for further thrashings.

Highly Recommended, principally if you enjoy losing and being snubbed and humiliated by two-dimensional alien space critters from the pit.

story:

game time:
game time can be endless like the name of the game haha

bugs:
none bugs seen yet

multi/singleplayer:
singleplayer and multiplayer up to three other people

price:

negative/positive:
Its pretty hard, even on the easiest difficulty. The more you are in a dungeon its getting harder. Its need a lot of tactics to win this game. Thats not a negative point its just challenging to get better in this game and thats good. If you wanna play this game try to get some friends, because with friends its makes a lot of fun instead of playing alone.

I've put in over 200 hours into the game. I've only played on Easy mode. The ships that are provided appear to have some interesting buffs and drawbacks. The RNG in this game is great, so I'm okay with having higher up levels completely wreck my players.
My advice to:
-Anyone looking for a fun time is to roleplay. Mix and match characters, whether they use different or similar weapons or stats.
-Anyone looking for completion is to play on Too Easy and Multiplayer. You'll be able to see fast progress.

I enjoyed this game very much. I managed to finnish game only on very easy, and on easy I reached the finnal level in only one instant. And I played the game more then 100 times from start. This game seems pretty easy to learn and you need to have a bit of a luck, and also need to think things through. Invest in level up of a hero or buy a item from a peddler. Invest in science or invest in defence turrets. Well, choices are yours to make, and mistakes are also yours to make. It is very addictive, and it didnt make me angry this game, not once. I was just having really great fun. I recommend it very much.

While I think this game is a lot of fun, I want to warn new players about a serious problem with the game. That is the difficulty. This game is very hard, and I might even go as far as to say more rage inducing than the Dark Souls series. The main reason for this is that there isn't much consistency between runs. This prevents you from learning patterns to improve, or at least severely hinders you from doing so. The main idea with the game is keeping rooms powered so that enemies don't spawn in them. To power rooms, you need a resource called dust, which can only be earned by opening new rooms, which causes monsters to spawn in unpowered rooms, and by killing monsters. Neither of these methods are reliable, because of how rare it is to actually get dust from them. This is especially the case with killing monsters. Now monsters don't always spawn in unpowered rooms when opening new doors, but it happens enough to be very challenging. I have also noticed that the starting amount of dust per floor decreases as you hit the higher floors. This basically cripples you from the start on these levels. Another problem is with heroes (You can have a max of 4 at a time) dying very quickly without the player being able to react fast enough. You are able to heal them on the fly with food, another resource in the game, but sometimes a swarm of enemies will enter the room they reside in, and kill them instantly without you even knowing they were under attack. The same happens for modules, and towers. So far, I have not beaten a run, although I have gotten close (11/13 floors). If any of this sounds like it would just make you fly into a fit of rage, then I suggest avoiding this one.

A game that I always come back to

This is a game that's simple in execution, but fun to pick up and play. The basic premise is easy so there's no problem in playing a bunch, putting it aside and coming back to experience it again in a year.

There is a real sense of risk and reward, and you have to balance it all out while praying to the RNG gods. With that being said though, you can easily get screwed over at the beginning of your playthrough by RNG. In that sense, I found it to be kind of like a card-based game system like Magic: The Gathering. If you have a good hand at the beginning, you have a lot of options for late game play, but if your opening hand is terrible, you're guaranteed to lose. In this game, the layout, the items you get, and the upgrades available in the store significantly affect how well your run will go. There is a lot of room for agency, so it's not completely 'luck of the draw' but it's there in a significant enough way that if you don't like that, this won't be the game for you.

There's enough variety in the characters, the game layout etc. that this is always a game you can come back to.

9/10

Dungeon of the Endless™ - Crystal Edition is a fun and challenging game which can be played either solo or multiplayer.
There are 2 difficulty settings. Don't underestimate it, even the Too Easy setting can be challenging.
There is a small number of ships (dungeons) to explore. As you complete a dungeon, you will unlock more ships to play on.
You have several character to play as. You start with a handful to choose from, and unlock more as you play.
Resources are Dust (power), Industry (building), Science (research), and Food (healing & leveling). Manage well, or lose.

I highly recommend giving this game a try.

I just recently started playing this game again which I had mostly played during it's beta and then had forgotten for 5 years or so.

It's great in the sense that it feels a lot like games of the past, where it's not about completion but about how far you can get and how high you can score. Once you unlock the drill-pod, you can play a mode that just increasinly gets harder and harder but are destined to eventually lose. And for some reason I like playing stuff like that. :o

A fun game, that starts off rather lighthearted, fun game. Better with friends but solo play is definitely an option. The game starts off slow, gathering dust(What is used to power your rooms you have explored) and other resources, until the later stages when the game finally picks up and you're in a panic. Hoping that you'll be able to make it out alive for that stage, the rush of making it out to the next stage is really exciting.

The only con I have to this game really is the lengths of runs. They can be very long and hectic. Maybe I'm playing it wrong or something but the runs can be extremely long.(Though it can be fun as well)

This game is full of endless play ability with many characters to chose from and random maps to play on.

The game is well polished with little or no glitches, bugs, or problems.

The game works that of a tower defense where each door you open creates monsters. Monsters try to destroy the crystal. Find the exit and safely take the crystal with you. If you enjoy a strategic planned out combat with breaks between battles and many characters to play this is your game.

I have never played something like this, but i like it!

First off, the game isnt very fun alone, play it with friends if you can, otherwise it isnt the same experience. Its really hard to play all by yourself, you will have to control more than one characters all alone. With friends, its a blast! When everyone knows what they are doing it is so much fun.

The graphics may seem bad at first, but you see that its pretty good for such a simple game with a simple art style.

8/10 with friends - 6/10 when you are playing alone

When I first started playing Dungeon of the Endless- Crystal Edition, I wasn't having much success. After several tries to get going on the game, I kind of put it aside for a bit. However, I was determined to figure the game out as from what I did play of the game I thought I would enjoy it. So I decide to watch a video of a couple of employees of Amplitude play the game. This helped greatly and I have now completed runs three or four times now. Dungeon of the Endless is a nice mixture of Tower Defense, Rogue Like, RPG and strategy.

The game has two skill levels, too easy and easy. Don't let this fool you as too easy is a real challenge itself. The developers having a little joke with the levels. When you start the game you have a limited number of ships (dungeons) and characters to play. As you play you open up more ships and characters til you have a normal total of eight ships and twenty-six characters.

As you make your way through the dungeon you can find equipment that your characters can use as well as places to set resource generators, merchants, dust, characters to add to your team and of course monsters. Gathering resources allows you to buy equipment, level your characters, research modules, heal characters and build modules.

The ships you choose to play on have different modifiers on them affecting the way you play so you can have many different challenges, giving the game more re-playability. Your main goal is to get as many resources as possible and to level up and equip your characters to make the long journey through 12 levels of each ship. With the big challenge of taking a crystal that is at your start room of each level, all the way to the exit of each floor , with one of your (hopefully) speedy characters.

The game has an old school look to it, along with some very nice music and good sound effects as well. As, I mentioned at the start the game is quite the challenge, do not think you will jump right in and win right away and every time.If you like a nice challenge and some extra special dungeon crawling, I highly recommend this game.

Easily one of the best tower defense games out there.
Not *the* best though. That accolade belongs to Starcraft: Brood War custom maps circa 2001, with enough pepsi twist and chips to ruin your pearly whites twenty times over.

This is a fresh take on the dungeon formula; tower defense plus roguelike with a pinch of character development.

Despite good polish and engaging--often nail-biting--gameplay, Dungeon of the Endless is hard and random enough to dissuade a person from trying to beat it enough times to ever feel mastery, or to learn about the characters in a meaningful way.

If roguelike is your favorite type of game, go for this. Not into dying/restarting a lot? No sweat, just skip this one over.

Weird mix out of RPG and tower defense. Lots of fun with friends, you have to work and plan together a lot.

The core gameplay is really satisfying. My biggest complaint is that the heroes themselves are for the most part pretty boring. They could all be the same character and it wouldn't really change the experience that much. I wish they were more powerful and unique instead of constantly overlapping the 4 categories (runner/fighter/operator/movable lamp[what else is Pyro good for?]). Operate should be rarer but more powerful (why does Hikensha have it, when her whole kit focuses on battling in dark rooms?), and it should be feasible for decked out fighter heroes to hold a room or two on their own on higher floors, without flooding them with science and food. Other than that issue, this game is a great way to pass the time when you have a break too short to play anything committal, but can also be played for hours at a time.

Still has a bug from 2015 that will randomly disconnect people causing the whole session to be lost

Plays as a futuristic roguelike/roguelite with some Tower Defense elements. However the number of bugs in this game has made it unplayable for me. Several of the bugs are game breaking, such that I never made it past floor 4 (of 10) as I would hit a game breaking bug that prevented me from going any further. The only save game mechanic is for when you quit a session to resume later (and that save is deleted as soon as you load it), otherwise there is no way to recover if you run into one of the bugs, you plain have to start over.

Picked this game up for 3 bux. It's 100% worth it at full price too.

Yo this game is pretty dang good. It's more than the sum of its parts.

Pick it up and just go in blind and be pleasantly surprised. It's a different kinda game.

I like this game. It ticks all sorts of little boxes in me, especially since it manages to pull off so many different genres in one package. From what I can tell, this makes it easy for most people to get into but hard to hold their attention. I have about 30h in this game right now, and I have unlocked almost all of the available content. While I like the many and varied characters, each with different backstories and even a couple plotlines, I have to say that I believe this is a good game that will probably sit in your steam library a lot after you've played a bit out of it. I think what I'm trying to say is that the replayability value decreases rather fast, even if you have friends to play it with. You can extend the shelf life a bit by playing through the game with the different pods or going for achievements, but those aren't driving forces for most players who will probably prefer a vanilla playthrough. It can be hard to choose trying what is almost an entirely new gamemode when you have already mastered one way of playing the game.

But overall I like this game, and I think it is worth the money even without a sale, unless you want the crystal edition or are planning to buy the DLC.

FTL, Binding of Isaac and tower defense all in one game, PLUS ONLINE MULTIPLAYER/COOP. I've always wanted coop FTL, real coop Binding of Isaac and a good tower defense coop. You literally can't beat that. Plus I got it on winter sale for $2.99? SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY.

I'm yet to beat the dungeon, but failing while doing so has been fun. Simple mechanics allow decent amount of strategizing, while playing with random crew ensures you end up trying different tactics. Graphics is nice and changing scenery indicates how long you have journeyed so far.
