Du beginnst deine Reise als gequälte Seele in den Untiefen der Hölle ohne eine einzige Erinnerung an deine Vergangenheit. Deine besondere Fähigkeit andere Menschen und Dämonen zu kontrollieren, ermöglicht es dir erst unter diesen extremen Bedingungen zu überleben.

Indem du die lebensfeindliche Umgebung erkundest und mit anderen erschöpften Seelen des Höllenraum interagierst, wird dir als Held schnell klar, dass es nur einen Ausweg aus der Hölle gibt: Du musst die mystische Rote Göttin besiegen!

In Agony erwartet Spieler sowohl eine ausgereifte und durchdachte Story als auch ein Open-Challenge-System, bei dem Spieler in zufällig generierten Leveln überleben müssen, um ihre Highscores zu erhöhen. Neben der Tatsache, dass das Spiel in unzähligen Listen aus der Reihe „Die am meisten erwarteten Horrorspiele 2018“ vorzufinden ist, erwartet der von Kickstarter finanzierte Titel Spieler mit einer brutalen und hasserfüllten Umgebung.

Agony führt Spieler in das Herzstück der Hölle, wo sie ums Überleben kämpfen und das Rätsel hinter der mysteriösen Roten Göttin lösen müssen – der Architektin dieses Ortes voller Kummer und Schmerz sowie der einzigen Wissensquelle über die Flucht von diesem Ort. Doch es gibt weitaus mehr als es scheint. Gejagt von Kreaturen aus den schlimmsten Albträumen erlangst du die Fähigkeit, Dämonen und andere Seelen zu kontrollieren, um den Weg aus der Hölle zu finden.

Absolute Dreistigkeit....
Ich schreibe nicht oft Reviews, aber hier konnte ich es mir nicht nehmen.
Kauft euch das Spiel nicht. Ich war total gehyped am Anfang von dem Setting und der Idee, wurde aber wie viele andere beim Release enttäuscht. Kein Kampfsystem, geschnittene Fassung (Blut war violett...wir sind hier nicht mehr bei Tomb Raider 1) und die Animationen waren sehr....simpel. Umso mehr habe ich mich auf die Uncut Version gefreut, die wenig später einfach von meinem Account verschwunden ist.
Nur um sie dann als Kaufoption im Sale wiederzufinden. Mir ist bewusst, dass die Entwickler inzwischen die Uncut Version kostenlos als Download anbieten und ich sollte wahrscheinlich wegen meiner geringer Spielzeit dem Spiel nochmal eine Chance geben.
Doch ich will es nicht.
Das Review bleibt allein für den dreisten Versuch der Entwickler negativ. So eine Entwicklung der Spielindustrie will ich nicht miterleben und schon gar nicht unterstützen.
Daher rate ich von dem Kauf ab.
Hoffentlich nehmen sich andere Entwickler kein Beispiel für diese Profitgier an Madmind Studio.

Betrugsfirma. Stehlen dir das UNRATED game aus deiner Bibliothek und deren Lösung ist es man solle es einfach erneut mit Rabatt kaufen. Was in DE aber nicht so easy ist.

Dieses Spiel hat mich von der ersten Minute an nur geärgert.

Seien es unsichtbare Kanten, an denen man hängen bleibt; dass man schon Schaden bekommt, wenn man vom Ursprung (zB Feuer) noch sichtbar weit genug entfernt gewesen wäre, ob es die grottigen Gegner sind und die schwammig und uneindeutig funktionierende Verstecken-und-Schleichen Funktion, oder dass das Spiel zwar auf den ersten Blick linear scheint, man dann aber regelmäßig in Ecken landet, aus denen man nicht mehr heraus kommt, oder man endlose Wege völlig umsonst gegangen ist, die man dann erst mal im Schneckentempo zurück darf, oder die geradezu Übelkeit erregende Weise, wie die Kamera beim Schlüpfen durch Spalten anfängt zu zittern wie von einem spastischen Anfall, beim Gehen über Brücken nach hinten, oben und/oder schräg rutscht, als könne die Spielerfigur plötzlich den Kopf nicht mehr grade halten und beim Körper verlassen das Bild an eine andere Stelle als zuvor springt, so dass man sich erst mal zeitraubend neu orientieren muss, und man dabei auch grundsätzlich nach hinten durch den (vermutlich) Kopf des letzten Märtyrers clippt.

Was dieses Spiel aber schlussendlich für mich zerstört hat, war ein Bug, bei dem ich im Sprung über einen Abgrund jedes einzelne Mal gegen eine unsichtbare Wand gesprungen und abgestürzt bin.
Online Recherche ergab keine bis trügerische und schließlich nutzlose Ergebnisse.

Im Sukkubus-Modus in UNRATED an der selben Stelle das exakt gleiche Problem.
Auch sind einige Audios und visuelle Effekte bei mir nicht vorgekommen, als sies, wie in Let's Plays nachgeprüft, gesollt hätten.

Alles in Allem macht dieses Spiel für mich leider den Eindruck einer komplett verbuggten Alpha, das mir keinerlei Spielvergnügen bereiten konnte.

(Diesen Text habe ich sehr ähnlich auch als Angabe von Gründen für die Reklamation geschrieben, und eigentlich kopiert, aber das herzallerliebste Steam lässt es mich nicht hier rein kopieren. Sei also die Tatsache, dass ich diese ganze Tapete jetzt nochmal abgetippt habe Zeuge, wie frustriert ich von dem Spiel bin!)

Einmal ein Sünder, immer ein Sünder... aber dieses Mal mit einem Knall!

Die Story:

Als Sünder wurde unsere Seele dazu verdammt im Fegefeuer zu schmoren. Doch die unerträglichen Qualen treiben uns zu einem Pakt mit der roten Göttin, die uns verspricht, unsere Seele zu verschonen und uns wieder zurück zu den Lebenden zu schicken, wenn wir ihre Prüfungen bestehen.

Dass dieser Pakt am Ende eher einen einseitigen Nutzen hat ist denke ich abzusehen...
Was genau passiert werde ich jedoch nicht spoilern.

An sich eine klasse Idee und mit vielen Hintergrunddetails versehen. 7 / 10 Punkten.

Die Grafik:

Was die Grafik angeht bin ich tief zerrissen.
Auf der einen Seite hat das Spiele einige liebevoll disignte Areale und die Monster die uns unterwegs begegen sind mit viel Feinarbeit angefertigt worden, jedoch gibt es auch einige Copy & Paste Texturen und hin und wieder den reinsten Pixel-Matsch.

Was ich ebenfalls unter dem Punkto Grafik verbuchen will sind Lichteffekte etc...
Atmosphärisch hat man sich hier bis in den letzten Winkel des Spiels gedanken gemacht, jedoch gibt es nach meinem Empfinden nur zwei Möglichkeiten:

) Man dreht die Helligkeit runter oder lässt sie auf Standard, dann wirken die Effekte am Besten aber in einigen Arealen sieht man trotz Fackel absolut Garnichts

) Man dreht die Helligkeit hoch und hat spätestens nach 30 Minuten Gameplay Auge-/ Kopfschmerzen

Es war zwar insgesamt sehr nett anzusehen, jedoch ist das mit den Effekten ein zu großer Minuspunkt, als dass es eine wirklich angenehme Erfahrung ist (trotz den Brüsten die einem bei einer Todesanimation um die Ohren fliegen :D ) 3 / 10 Punkten.

Das Gameplay:

Im Grunde ist dieses Spiel ein Walking-Simulator gepaart mit einem Puzzle-Platformer.
Es gibt nicht wirklich viel was man zu dem Gameplay sagen kann. Einigen wesentliche Mechaniken fühlen sich jedoch sehr schwamming an und das Mapping des Spiels weist einige Schwachpunkte auf (wie etwa Feststecken in unischtbaren Wänden etc.)

Grundsätzlich, für das was es letzendlich ist, ist es definitiv spielbar. Angenehm ist jedoch anders...
5 / 10 Punkten.

Anzumerken ist an dieser Stelle noch, dass die angegeben Systemanforderungen weit über dem liegen was tatsächlich abverlangt wird. Ich konnte auf einem schlechteren System das Spiel in vollsten Einstellungen auf Full-HD mit konstanten 60FPS genießen.

Fazit:

Es war alles in allem ein sehr fesselndes Spiel, jedoch an vielen Stellen sehr krampfhaft zu Spielen.
Wer jedoch einen Hang zum Satanismus hat oder für das Böse / die Sünde der findet in diesem Spiel definitiv was für seine dunklen Gelüste.
Für den derzeitigen Preis auf Steam (29,99€) kann ich es jedoch nicht empfehlen. Sollte der Preis allerdings um mindestens 10€ Fallen wäre es definitiv ein Daumen nach oben, trotz der vielen negativen Aspekte.

Also ich gebe dem Spiel hiermit 5 / 10 Punkten in der Gesamtwertung mit einem Daumen nach oben aufgrund der Story.
Jedoch ist dieser Daumen mit vorsicht zu genießen. Entweder man steht auf dieses Satanisten-Zeug oder der Preis fällt auf maximal 20€ ansonsten sollte man es sich nicht zulegen.

Diese Review dient als Wertung innerhalb seines eigenen Genres.

Agony ist ein extrem atmosphärischer Puzzleschleicher direkt aus der Hölle.

Wer es ähnlich verstörend mag, wie damals in Clive Barkers Jericho, wird hier definitv bedient.
Der Actionteil geht bisher gegen Null, aber das stört mich in keinster Weise, es hat macht Spass, seine manchmal durchaus knappen Inkarnationen dadurch nicht zu vergeuden, sich 5 Minuten in engen Gassen an einem Dämon vorbeizumogeln, der sich 50 cm von einem entfernt an den Resten der Verlorenen labt. Teilweise extrem spannend.
Wer auf Shooter steht, bitte weitergehen, so funktioniert das hier (zum Glück) nicht.
Mir auch unverständlich, die Ablehnung der Community wegen der Schnitte.......

Das was ich bisher gesehen habe, wäre bis vor einer Weile so in Deutschland NICHT erschienen. Das da evtl., laut Developer, doch einige Sekunden fehlen (offiziel nur bei 2 von sieben Enden, und angeblich ist Blut an einigen Stellen violett, was ich bisher nicht bemerkt habe...), fällt mir bisher nicht unangehm auf. Was für ne Atmosphere......Wow.
Natürlich werde ich mir sobald möglich, bei youtube das von den Developern veröffentliche Video mit den einzelnen Schnitten angucken, aber DAS TUT DEM SPIEL ÜBERHAUPT KEINEN ABBRUCH !

Der andere Kritikpunkt, das es viel zu dunkel ist, lässt sich (seufz!) wie üblich, über einen Gammaregler ingame einstellen. Sorry für die, die das nicht hinkriegen.....ehrlich.....das ist kein Bug, das ist ein Feature (facepalm)

Noch nie habe ich eine so überzeugende Hölle gesehen, selbst das bisher überwiegend gemütliche Gameplay passt wunderbar und es geht mit dem Horror nicht nur plakativ, sondern auch teilweise äusserst subtil.....Gemein, wenn da plötzlich ein vermeitlicher toter Dämön beim zweiten Hinsehen verschwindet, man weiss, das der gleich über einen herfällt, die Spannung hält sich minutenlang und es passiert dann.....doch nicht...........geil ^^

Wer es eklig, aber äusserst kreativ und atmosphärisch mag, mit FSK18 Inhalten keinerlei Probleme hat und mal darauf verzichten kann, DOOM-mässig alles ablatzen zu müssen.......UNBEDINGT ZUGREIFEN !

Und nein, dies ist KEIN Walking SImulator, sondern für mich ein echt gelungenes Spiel für Höllenfans !

To the people saying that they are trying to scam us into buying agony unrated again.
READ THEIR NEWS FEED!

They told that had happened, explained the plan and apologized. Wether you were stupid enough to buy the game again regardless of this information means that you stupidly spent 1.87€ at 85% off for something you basically already had. OH NO! Think of the can of Bepis you could have bought instead! Grow up!

Bought a bundle Agony + Agony Unrated. Had Unrated removed from my library. I waited patiently for a resolution giving the devs the benefit of the doubt that it was a mistake and that the game would be returned. Then am told by the devs I can have Unrated back if I pay for it again.

Uhhh, I don't think so. Do you really think I am stupid enough to pay for something twice? Absolutely unacceptable. I have removed all other Madmind Studio games from my wish list, I shall not buy a product from this company again.

So hang on, let me get this straight. You advertise that buying agony will also include the unrated version. So your customers buy it and get their two versions.

Then years later, some mystery event occurs and the unrated version gets removed from your customer's accounts. You then claim you have no idea why, and you're trying to work with steam to figure it out.

A few days go by and you release an update on the situation, stating the only work around at the moment is that you put the removed version on sale, and if anyone wants the game again they will have to buy it back, despite already owning it?

Do you truly believe that's ok? Idgaf if it's on sale for a penny. It's not about the price, it's about the principle. That is wrong, and you're playing with fire. In all honesty, you're most likely risking a class action lawsuit.

*UPDATE* The developers have fixed it, and it is now available to download for free as a DLC. I will however be leaving the review up as a record of how they handled this situation. It may have been resolved, but in my opinion, it still does not negate the fact that the developers tried charging their customers for a product they already owned. With that said, I think it is fair to also point out that this was not solely on madmind studio. Steam itself shares the blame, as this only became a problem because of something they did. All in all, I am happy to have my game back, and thank both Madmind and steam for acting quickly to resolve this issue, even if I do not fully agree with their initial methods of doing so.

Cool concept and a cool interpretation of hell but the story, if you can call it that, was non existent. You go around the levels trying not to get caught and that's about it for the gameplay. They put so many collectables in a game that you have to hide and avoid enemies that can 1 shot you. I think if they made a way to fight back enemies with weapons instead of the annoying torch this game would have been better but then the whole 'survival' hide and seek gameplay would have been replaced, that would have been a big no no since the devs really wanted the gameplay to be like this.

Yeah sure, you can get multiple endings based on what you do in the game, but the gameplay is too boring to make another run for a different ending.

wow, what a poorly finished game.
even the unrated version, which should have been a more polished version of agony, is terribly poor.
everything very dark, everything practically monochromatic, hard drive and locked and game designer terribly bad.

although the theme and plot are interesting, nothing pays to play agony for more than 1 hour.
It's all so bad it makes the lust series feel like a triple A game

mesmo a versão unrated, que deveria ser uma versão mais polida de agony, é terrivelmente pobre.
tudo muito escuro, tudo praticamente monocromático, movimentação dura e travada e game designer terrivelmente ruim.

embora o tema e enredo sejam interessantes, nada compensa jogar agony por mais de 1 hora.

This game is a Hell Thematic Park for kids and adults that are afraid from themselves. Far from what developers promised.
Terrible textures. You can't see anything, even sometimes don't know where you are because the dark. The movement is clumsy... well... you can read all the problems with this game in an other thousand analisys. Censored or not, simply is a 30€ bad game, if you want play it better wait for a 50% discount or more. Perhaps then it's worth it.

- DOOM has a better hell.
- Dante's Inferno has a better hell.
- Clive Barker's Jerico has a better hell.
- Damn, even my life is a better hell than this...

You can't give this game a negative review solely based on the beautiful atmosphere this game has to offer. The colors and shapes are amazing, and I really appreciated that. Now to say this game was great, no, I can't say that. It definitely is It's own unique horror game that you won't find anywhere else though. Just a sickly disgusting, gorey, and blood lust game. It kind of gave me a feel of Amnesia and a little Alien Isolation. The story was ok. I got some good jumps out of it, and Is all around creepy.

I didn't like that I couldn't adjust/customize ALL of the controls. I also got some bad frame drops for some reason and I got stuck a handful of times on the map and had to restart my game. I didn't play Succumbus mode although I hear It's better than the story but I've just had enough Agony, and I'll end this on saying It's not a bad game but also not a game for everyone.

This game is definetly not for everyone. Is gore, disgusting and brutal. Gameplay is almost a walking simulator around hell, while you can posess demons and play as them. But if you are interested on exploring such rare to find perspective, go ahead!

blech. nah. and so damn dark, visually, i didn't know where to go. I had to google to find a way to brighten the game. turns out there's a shortcut key to brighten it.

The only good thing about this game is the name. I felt agony while playing it :D got stuck like a million times and sometimes the controls just wouldn't work.

Literally unplayable if you enjoy camera simulators this is must choice for you. There is a funny easter egg in the title - Agony is what you will be experiencing throughout the whole gameplay

The scenarios are very beautiful (in the dark way, but there are), a pretty good demonstration of art design, but the puzzles are very annoying, the story very tedious... Well... Boring like hell... Could have more action, more death, blood, and so far... But unfortunately no...

Just a really bad game all around. The story in convoluted and makes little sense at all and the gameplay is awful. There is nothing fun about this game. This review is in reference to the remastered version as the base version was even worse. All in all don't waste the money or time.

Whilst it is a good game, it isn't an excellent game - and the reason why I am recommending this is if its on sale and then you can get it.
If you really want to enjoy it, then use a trainer and use undetected so you can watch the demons all you want without worrying they'd see you whilst you try and play the game with one hand (almost impossible without enough mouse buttons)

If you're hesitating with buying this game or not, I suggest you buying it without looking on Youtube gameplays or whatever
Give it a try, look if you're into it after 30m-1hour and if not then it's okay, ask for a refund.

From my experience, it's the very first game that got me into spending that much time in looking at landscape, looking every details of the world. Just for that, it was a big positive point to me.

I also got some rare bugs popping in the game but it got fixed by itself by a simple restart of the game. I know some people got a hard time playing the game, I personally got nothing beside what I previously said.

In conclusion: I liked everything the game offered me, I wasn't waiting for anything, it was my first horror ambiant game and I liked playing it a lot. ♡

Attempting to make 'hell' and edgy setting for horror in modern days is ironically boring. Goopy walls and wailing voices simply don't offer enough edge to the game. With or without nudity.

Nice graphics, love the goopy, gorey, horribleness that is the environment. I was always amazed with how horrifically beautiful things were in Agony. However, the story and gameplay is a little lackluster. There simply isnt a whole lot there and I never really found myself enjoying the game much. Maybe I simply didnt play enough but this game didn't give me a whole lot to want to come back to.

The game is terrible. The story grabbed my interest at the beginning, but later on it was just boring. The mechanics are annoying. The game is quite buggy. The layout is confusing. This game is poorly designed. There's barely anything to enjoy about this game, IMO. Because, it feels just like a walking/hiding simulator. That's.. literally about it. The models are OK, but the game just looks unappealing. And it also messes with my monitor and/or graphics settings for some reason.

Play the Unrated version if you want to play this, or look up the ending on YT.

The game is gory, satanic, brutal, horrifying and all out intriguing as heck, of course I would recommend it the gameplay is incredible, the graphics are amazing the details are indescribable and the concept is magnificent I'm glad I picked up agony, if you like horror, gore, dark, satanic, bloody gameplay, check it out

For all it's flaws Agony is still a great artistic interpretation of the concept of damnation. With a bigger budget and more game development experience I think Madmind Studio could produce some truly great work.

As much as I liked the game's disturbing and detailed imagery, the gameplay is horrible and extremely difficult, and overall the nice graphics just couldn't compensate for the garbage gameplay.
