Gefällt an Gears 5 - einfach alles. Das Spiel ist klasse gemacht. Mit Halo nicht zu vergleichen.
Gears Tactics zum Beispiel ist garnicht meine Sache. Liegt aber vielleicht an mir. Für mich ein ganz anderes Spiel wenn es auch den gleichen Namen bzw. Charaktere hat.
Es ist einfach ein bombastisches Spiel. Mehr kann ich nicht dazu schreiben. Sagt doch alles. Oder?
Wird Zeit das genau auf diese Art gemachtes Spiel, also ein neues Spiel auf den Markt gebracht wird und nicht wie Gears Tactics, das sich als Nachfolger von Gears 5 nennt. Nachfolger, nein ganz und garnicht, Wann kommt GEARS 6 und Gears 7 raus??????????

Ich kann das nur teilweise mit Ja empfehlen, die Nähe zum Konsolenspiel ist in der ganzen Steuerung zu spüren. Wer damit zurecht kommt, für dem mag das gut sein, aber ich mit meinen fast 64 Jahren benutze schon immer lieber eine progammierbare Tastatur und Maus. Grafik, Effekte und Story sind gut, die Videosequenzen im Game sind teilweise sehr lang und nicht weiterschaltbar, ätzend. Außerdem sind die Komponenten und Sammelobjekte nur mit durchsuchen aller verfügbaren Räume zu finden. Der Wegweiser ist nicht so toll, auch teilweise ungenau, besonders wenn ein Gefährt benutzt werden muss, da fand ich Horizon Zero Dawn mit ähnlicher Story besser.

Meine Bewertung bezieht sich ausschliesslich auf den Singleplayer. Mir macht es riesig Spaß, das Gunplay ist sehr gut, auch die NPC's die mitkommen sind klasse. Die haben manchmal eine tolle Konversation untereinander. Bei den Waffen empfehle ich immer die Lancer (Sturmgewehr mit Motorsägen Funktion) und die Boltok Pistole (macht heftig Schaden) mitzunehmen. Als 3. Waffe je nach Situation mal die Longshot (Sniper) und mal die Gnasher (Schrotflinte) zu nehmen. Der 4. Slot ist mit Splittergranaten belegt. Auch das Gameplay überzeugt, deshalb absolute Single Player Empfehlung.

I rate only the single player mode. It is much fun plus gunplay also. Your companions are very good and have sometimes good converstaions. I recommend to take ever the Lancer (Storm Rifle with motorcycle funktion) and the Boltok (Pistol with much damage) as weapons. 3rd weapon like how the situation is Longshot (Sniper) or Gnasher (Shotgun). 4th place is set by Grenades. Gameplay is funny, i like it much, for that i recommend this game absolut for singleplayer.

Ich bin ein wenig ernüchtert. Ich habe mich auf packende Action im Koop gefreut mit unmengen von umherfliegenden Aliengedärmen im Haar durch die Level zu schreiten.... aber naja... gefühlt nach der abgeschlossenen Story haben wir die meiste Zeit in einem Gefährt verbracht um von A nach B zu fahren.
Es fühlte sich etwas ideenlos an und die vorgegaukelte Open World machte dies auch nicht besser, eher das Gegenteil.
Die Kämpfe waren zu abgehackt bzw. es waren fast immer zu lange Pausen von Kampf zu Kampf etc.

Die Story war ok und die mancher Spruch brachte mir dann doch ein Schmunzeln auf die Lippen.
Wie gesagt für 10 € ist das völlig i.O.

Papa Deckungsshooter - Runde 5

Auch Teil 5 ist wieder ein runder 3rd Person Shooter, der quasi die Deckungsshootermechanik gefühlt erfunden bzw. zur Perfektion gebracht hat. Allen voran die professionellen Sprecher, die sympathischen Charaktere als auch die gute Inszenierung inklusive schicker Grafik sind einer der Grundbausteine eines GoW. Dazu gesellen sich fette Action, flotte Sprüche und Kettensägenprügel, die zeitweise sehr zum Gore beitragen - ganz typisch GoW. Mit rund 13 Stunden ist auch die Einzelspielerkampagne, die wahlweise mit zwei weiteren Freunden im COOP gezockt werden kann, solide lang.

Bisher merkwürdig finde ich allerdings wie wir PC-Pistoleros behandelt wurden: GoW 1 erschien 2007 - ein Jahr später als die Xbox 360 Variante - noch für den PC. Ab Teil 2 - über Teil 3 und Judgment - blieb es dann lange fleißig exklusiv für die Xbox zum Verkauf. An eine PC-Fassung hat man da mittlerweile schon lange nicht mehr geglaubt. Dann, nachdem allgemein mit Windows 10 und neuem Microsoft-Chef (Microsoft im Folgenden nur noch als MS bezeichnet) sich einiges in der Firmenphilosophie von MS geändert hat: Gears of War 4 kam 2016 dann plötzlich zeitgleich (!) für X360 als auch PC heraus - zwar nur im Windows Store, aber ein Wunder ist geschehen! Und jetzt, weitere 3 Jahre später, der neueste Streich dann auch auf Steam.
Aber nachgeholt und verziehen ist damit noch nichts, befürchte ich. Ich kenne heute noch immer nicht die Stories der drei Ableger, die X360-exklusiv blieben. Ich bin wieder bei Teil 4 eingestiegen, aber so ganz klar ist mir noch nicht was Marcus Fenix alles in seinen Abenteuern dazwischen erledigt hat und warum ich auf einmal Frischlinge spiele. Das tut dem allgemeinen Spaß garantiert keinen Abbruch, aber man kann keine Serie woanders fortführen, wenn man nicht die versäumten Teile nachspendiert.

Aber ich hoffe dank der Halo Masterchief Collection, die Ende 2019 rauskam und plötzlich das Dilemma der Halo Serie ebenso für uns PCler ausgebügelt hat, ist nun ein wohlwollendes Zeichen von MS hier vielleicht auch noch für andere Reihen dasselbe Prozedere nachzuholen. Ich wünsche es mir! Die Gears sind lustig und wissen wie gute Action funktioniert. Auch wenn nicht jeder ein Fan der Deckungsshootermechanik ist, die Kampfareale schon dank des Aufbaus ankündigt und schlecht verbergen kann...

Auch finde ich die neue Skiff-Bewegungsfreiheit cool, jedoch ist es meiner Ansicht nach über 2 Akte hinweg zuviel des Guten und bringt zuviel zeitstreckendes und zu ruhiges backtracking-mäßiges Reisen in eine ansonsten schön-schlauchige adrenalindauerreiche Ballerkampagne.

Aber mit den Gears wird's bestimmt weitergehen. Warten wir's ab - schlecht wird's keinesfalls :)

Im Zuge der kostenlose Woche auf Steam durchgespielt und wurde vom Entwickler durch jede von mir erdenkliche Erwartung übertroffen.
Anfangs sah dies aber noch ganz anders aus, erst zu zweit im Koop probiert, das Potential war gewaltig, aber so richtig lief es zu zweit dann doch nicht. Es wollte nicht verbinden, erst nach mehreren Anläufen war ein finden möglich und dann traten immer wieder Tonprobleme oder auch im Spiel Probleme auf, so waren manche Folgequests nicht möglich, weil es irgendwie fest hing, daraufhin wurde es dann im Koop am Anfang gleich abgebrochen und jeder zockte das Game für sich durch.
In der knapp 10 stündigen Kampagne habe ich so viele erlebt, eine spannende und fesselnde Story, gute Charaktere mit einer absolut guten deutschen Stimmbesetzung. Doch das war noch nicht alles, die Kämpfe sind absolut kernig und machen einfach Spaß da es aus allen Rohren kracht, die knackige Grafik und der wuchtige Sound passen da optimal ins Bild. Die Acitonszenen wurden dann immer wieder durch langsamere Erkundungspassagen entlastet, sodass das Spiel nicht ermüdend wirkte, die zusätzliche Inszenierung durch viele Videoszenen passte auch super, ich denke da wird so mancher in Hollywood sogar neidisch. An was ich mich anfangs etwas gewöhnen musste war die Kamerasicht, doch nach kurzer Eingewöhnungszeit flutschte es gewaltig, so muss ich am ende des Tages sagen, dass Gears 5 mich als Neueinsteiger der Serie absolut begeistert hat und nahezu an der Perfektion streift. Was mir auch gefallen hat ist, das ich als Neueinsteiger mit den Infos der vorherigen Ereignisse kurz ins Bilde gebracht wurde. Die Endbosse bleiben auch gut in Erinnerung, kann das Spiel nur weiterempfehlen!

Ich hab es jetzt mal angespielt - im kostenlosen Wochenende. Bin wohl kurz vor dem Ende des ersten Akts und werde jetzt aufhören um mir nicht alles vorwegzunehmen.. Ich werde es mir zu einem späteren Sale kaufen, wenn es mal um die 20-30 € kostet.

Es ist ohne Frage ein cooles Spiel. Ein, zwei Sachen stören mich aber.
Ich bin kein Shooter Veteran. Eher Rollenspiele. Ich wollte es dennoch wissen und hab den höchsten Schwierigkeitsgrad gewählt. Was soll ich sagen...ich find's bis jetzt zu leicht.
Was es einem allerdings doch manchmal schwer macht, ist die Steuerung, wenn man mal rückwärts ausweichen möchte. Zu oft geht man ungewollt in Deckung und wird plattgemacht, anstatt eine Rückwärtsrolle hinzulegen.

Und zum Schluß noch etwas. Das hat jetzt nicht wirklich etwas mit dem Spiel an sich zu tun.
Aber ich bin genervt von all den Koop und Multiplayerinhalten.
BITTE(!!!!) , kann man denn so ein Spiel (und viele andere) nicht in zwei Versionen auf den Markt bringen?!?! Eine Version nur für Einzelspieler (ohne dem Koop/Multiplayerpart und Koop/Multiplayerachievements) die dann auch etwas weniger kosten darf. Und dann eben noch die Koop/Multiplayerversion mit allem drum und dran.
Das wär ein Traum!!!

Ich habe nur die Kampagne gespielt, daher bewerte ich auch nur diese. Nach ca. 15 Stunden war ich mit der Kampagne und allen Nebenmissionen durch.

Zuerst zur Story:
Diese ist in 4 Akten eingeteilt und hat mir sehr gefallen. Man erfährt etwas über die Charaktere, man mag sie schnell (oder eben auch nicht ;)). Auch die Geschichte selbst wird gut erzählt, man möchte wissen, wie es weiter geht. Ich musste oft wegen kleiner Sprüche lachen, alles in allem: Sehr gut für eine Shooter Story, ich habe jede Minute dieser 15 Stunden genossen. Hinweis: Die Kampagne lässt sich auch zu zweit oder zu dritt im Koop spielen. Ich habe jedoch nur alleine gespielt.

Weitere Dinge, die mir gefallen haben:
- Die Grafik empfand ich als recht hübsch, auf jeden Fall zeitgemäß. Zudem lassen sich noch kostenlos Ultra HD Texturen herunterladen, wodurch die Texturen in höheren Auflösungen noch schärfer aussehen sollen. Ich habe aber ohne diese gespielt (und vermutlich deshalb ab und zu mal unscharfe Texturen gesehen).
- Der Sound war sehr gut. Falls man einen Subwoofer in einem Mehrfamilienhaus nutzt, nimmt Rücksicht auf eure Nachbarn. :D
- Der Jack -> man steuert einen fliegenden Roboter/Drohne, der allerhand Dinge machen kann und zudem auch im Laufe der Story selbst verbessert werden kann. So kann dieser Gegner kurzzeitig übernehmen, Fallen stellen, das eigene Team kurz unsichtbar machen oder stärken, etc. Außerdem kämpft er auch etwas mit.

Aber es gibt auch Dinge, die mir nicht gefallen haben:
- Die Steuerung -> man hat das Gefühl, als ist die Steuerung vor 20 Jahren für das Spiel erfunden worden. Vermutlich ein Relikt aus der Konsolen Portierung, aber warum zum Geier kann ich nicht beim schnell Laufen seitwärts gehen, wie bei jedem anderen modernen Spiel auch? Seitwärts gehen klappt nur bei langsamen Tempo, aber nicht beim Laufen. Das fühlt sich einfach mies an. Zudem, wer kommt auf die Idee, die Leertaste dreifach zu belegen. In Deckung gehen und Laufen zum Beispiel (gerade vergessen, was die dritte Belegung war). Das führt manchmal zu nervigen Situationen, dass man sich an einer Wand anlehnt (natürlich zugewandt zum Gegner) anstatt einfach nur weg zu laufen. Das hat schon oft zum Neuladen des Abschnittes geführt. Glücklicherweise lässt sich das teilweise in den Einstellungen anpassen / ändern.
- Die Bewegung allgemein -> ich erwarte ja kein Assassins Creed, bei dem ich überall hoch und runter klettern kann. Aber das, was hier Gears 5 abliefert, erinnert ebenfalls an frühere Zeiten. Es gibt sogar Stellen auf der Karte, bei denen man nicht über 10 cm hohe Steine laufen kann. Gut, diese Extremfälle sind selten und fallen vermutlich unter die Kategorie Bugs. Aber gewollt als künstliche Abgrenzung sind definitiv Knie hohe Steine, über die man mal klettern darf, wenn es die Story erlaubt, mal nicht drüber klettern darf.

Allgemeines:
- Freies Speichern ist nicht möglich, das Spiel hat feste Speicherpunkte.
- Das Spiel ist keine Open World, jedoch geben Akt 2 und 3 einem die Freiheit, ob und in welcher Reihenfolge man die Nebenmissionen spielen möchte, da man hier auf einer relativ offenen Karte spielt. Akt 1 und 4 sind fest vorgegeben, hier gibt es keine Nebenmissionen. Die Nebenmissionen sind natürlich optional, jedoch erhält man nur in den Nebenmissionen alle Ausbauteile für Jack.
- Es gibt noch zwei weitere Koop Modi (Horde und Flucht), welche man jedoch nicht alleine spielen kann. Bei Horde muss man Gegnerwellen überleben.

Fazit:
Beschränkt auf die Kampagne kann ich Gears 5 jedem empfehlen, der ein gutes Schnäppchen machen kann. Da ich immer mit einem EUR pro Spielstunde kalkuliere, wäre also maximal 15 EUR in Ordnung, falls einem die Koop Modi gar nicht interessieren. Falls einem die Koop Modi ebenfalls interessieren, geht der normale Preis knapp in Ordnung.

I have never played any gears game before and i see many people prefer older ones but i had fun playing this
The game is really great
Good graphics
good gameplay
but for some reason i couldn't start act 3 in co-op mode even after trying several fixes and to play solo i had to start a new game
I only wanted to play the campaign but unfortunately i couldn't complete it hence a negative review
But still recommended to play

You can skip giving us Gears 6, and just port Gears 2 and 3.

Hivebusters DLC feels like what Gears used to be. Gears 5 campaign is forgettable.

Very Fun Game, quite enjoyable and awesome.

I don't know why some people say the campaign sucks, it doesn't, yeah the ending boss was a little dissapointing, I didn't expect it to be the ending boss, the campaign was little short, It's as if the bosses for both Gears 4 and Gears 5 are only a stepping stone for gears 6. This can actually be a really good thing, if they manage to pull it off in gears 6, but if they can't, then honestly the second trilogy is not gonna be as memorable as the first one, and I'll probably dislike the second trilogy if they don't make it good, cuz if they dont, the entire second trilogy will be waste.

The gameplay is fun and easy. Lovely game mechanics and new guns too. Loved the graphics and multiplayer too, the grind is also fun in it. Wish the game had more playerbase so i could play it everyday, sometimes i have to wait atleast 10 minutes just to get in a queue, maybe i guess i am too late to play it.

Story is nice as well, really got me hooked up, just the ending boss was not really what i expected. Ive already killed a worm in Gears of war 2 (my favorite gears) i dont know why they made the worm as the final boss, they couldve done better, atleast way better than the worm, couldve done way better, the only thing dissapointing was the boss.

Great like every other Gears game. The story has become a bit.....different, since GoW3, but the gameplay is still fun. Never had a single issue with performance in this game. No hiccups, no frame drops/locks, no crashes, no major server issues. Game runs great.

For those of you that enjoy the Horde mode, it is still very much the same fun, just shorter now(12 waves instead of 50). Which, lets be honest, 50 waves took a long time, and most of us don't have 3-4 hours to devote to a single gaming session anymore as we get older, so 12 waves is nice. Keeps games at around 30-40 minutes, allowing players to enjoy the game without having to devote large game sessions or risk bailing on their games midway through.

All of the weapons feel weak and unsatisfying, and removing the awful screen shake also removed all weapon recoil, making them feel even worse.

It's one of those games where increased difficulty = enemies are sponges and your character made of butter that explodes even if touched, even though your worst enemy in the game is the retarded companion ai.
Combined to the fact that the gameplay feels ancient, the story is stupid and the main character is an annoying bitch I'd say only buy if you are a fan of the franchise or if on a bundle like I did.

On a positive note, enviroments look nice.

Played every Gears game and fell in love with the series but after gears of war 3 some of the changes that came into the game play, I would say were negative but story kept being amazing and when it goes for different modes especially the 'horde mode' until they made just too many changes...... I'm glad that the story keeps going but at the same time it doesn't feel the same anymore. From my play time in all the games I would say the feelings and connections are not the same to when we had Delta squad with us and the Carmine brothers even though we didn't have some of them for too long but the games managed to build something with them till we met the oldest brother that survived till the end.

Would I recommend this games yes, but only If the other person played other games and just wanted to fill in the story of what happened after gears 3/4.

I really like it, and it looks stunning on a OLED tv. The combat and overall gameplay is very solid and smooth, and the story is very interesting while running through chaos.

But.. for god sake.. I just can't stand the running animation that makes you feel sick. Even turning camera shake off and whatever there is of settings, it's still bad. It's THE one thing i hate about this game.

Long time Gears fan here. This game can be a bit silly in its dialogue but the action and scale are amazing. GOW 5 attempts at fan service try to keep veteran COGS like myself happy but gets the sage nod of approval instead.

The game itshelf isnt as bad, but they have done zero troll prevention. the fact that u cant mute ingame voice emotes and everyone can spam them infinitly, u have an easy way of annoy people in the lobby, and the only way to avoid is simply leaving the game, or having the Host in a PRIVATE match kick him. Theres also a mode which is called survival, where anyone can stall the round as long as they want, because the team has to wait at midway at a checkpoint for everyone else, and u can go afk at a different corner without any special setup. There are no kick-votes in the game and also no voting for players for hurt the reputation of trolls and griefers. And at this point i m not even talking about people who straight up leaving at the start and u can look for another lobby on higher difficulties.

In the conclusion that the devs cant even prevent the most obvious trolls and griefs and u are at the mercy of random players from the internet at 2022 without a vote-kick, the game well deserves a thumb down for promoting toxicity.

This game is like a hollywood action movie - high budget, beautiful, polished, and so desperately afraid to fail that it's afraid to do anything actually interesting or engaging. It just throws corridor after corridor at you, and, yes, each and every has a completely expected ambush! And it wags tail at you, like it expects oscar for that.

Before playing Gears 5 you should ask yourself one question. Do you enjoy it's cover shooter gameplay loop. If the answer is positive then the game offers it's players a massive amount of content. A singleplayer campaign that can be played in co-op, even on split-screen. There are many interesting multiplayer modes. Horde and Escape offer an additional progression systems which just adds depth and replayability.
It's true that the player numbers are low. Keep that in mind. You can still reliably find matches. Especially in the evenings or during weekends.
The campaign and the story are decent, altough they have some weak moments. If you are a long time Gears of War fan you might not agree with the direction the series is taking.

The Hivebusters DLC adds a new campaign. It's more action oriented and offers a class based characters with some ultimate abilities. It can create some nice tactital options during the playthrough. Unfortunately the campaign is quite short.

Whether you are a newcome to the series or a long time fan the main thing is that the gameplay loop of Gears 5 while solid, is pretty much the same since the first game so it might get stale for some people. It wasn't for me.

I only played the single player campaign, not really intererest in the multiplayer.

It looks beautiful, very good graphics and sounds, voice actors are pretty good too.

Gameplay is decent, there is a lil bit too much skiff traveling for my taste but its not a huge problem.

My biggest gripe is like a lot of sci fi games, even in a sci fi futuristic universe they can do crazy DNA research and have laser beam satellites but they can't build a gun that shoots straight, most of the weapons have insane recoil or poor accuracy.

I would still recommend but on sale.

I'm sorry for people who bought the game but did not finish it.
According to achievements, 29.7% finished the game.
I always try to pass games with a high difficulty.
But some people can not finish the game even with low difficulty.What a disaster has befallen us

Gears 5 deserves more love, it's a major step up from Gears 4 and I like it just as much as the original trilogy. It does story telling and character development differently but it still arrives at the same impactful conclusion we all love about Gears.

Been playing Gears since my teen years, and i'm glad to see this franchise on steam finally. This game seems to get a lot of hate, but I enjoyed it quite a bit. Fun story with the new Gang, and the old delta squad returning in a support role. Is it worth full price... i dunno. Story is engaging and decent length, Hivebusters was a blast (albeit short), Horde mode is great for killing podcasts (and grubs). The escape mode is probably worth a couple of runs, and multiplayer is...well....... All in all i'd argue it's a good value for your money.

Garbage. This game was design for its sole purpose to please the media and twitter clowns.

Gow 1,2,3 had that gritty horror feeling. The characters in the early games like Marcus Fenix, Dom, and my man Cole Train were the shit. Battle Harden. I loved them. I can still hear their voices in my head as if they were lost loved ones.

The new GOW5 character’s are generic as fuck. They are generic to the point they felt like they were media/corporate America approved. The weapons felt like they weigh as much as a box of cereal. WWE has better acting to damage taken then the enemies in the game. It’s laughable. The developers should play the OG Gears before releasing another installment.

Still havent fixed these issues 2 years after release.

Getting stuck in the ground and even falling through the map is a thing still.
The game can also softlock after you clear all the enemies but the game doesnt trigger or realize that they are all gone so you have to reload the checkpoint. If you're unlucky multiple times even.

And a thing I personally dont like is that literally everything is bound to the exact same button.

Ok, I played this game for about the first year of it being out on Xbox instead of Steam, so that's why my hours aren't very high, but I assure you I have re-upped (restarted my level from 100 down to 1) four times, and used to really like this game.
The game is dead as of now, very few people still play it because they just didn't have enough content when the game first launched, and they failed to deliver more as time went on. I was thinking of reinstalling, but decided against it because, lets be real here, why would people play this with Halo Infinite's multiplayer being free rn. Trust me, go play that instead, and wait for Gears 6, maybe they won't screw that one up.
As far as the quality of the game itself, the gameplay is solid all around (which is the only reason why I thought about coming back, because I remember loving the actual gameplay), and now there is a good amount of content, but there are also a lot of micro transactions. The story is easily the worst in the series, with it basically being a political message, making JD (the white guy) the bad guy for opening fire on protesters that brought fire bombs to not only protest, but escalate into violence. Pretty dumb honestly. That being said, other than the story being riddled with political bullshit here and there, Kait was a surprisingly enjoyable main character, though Marcus and JD in previous games were still far better.
Like I said, wait for Gears 6 and hope it is better.

Listen I am a huge fan of Gears... Love all (besides Judgement) and can strongly recommend this series to everyone. I just cannot FULLY get into this game. Now this game is good, that I will say. The story is interesting, Gameplay is fine, Multiplayer is fun, Horde mode is litty. I just cannot fully get into the game.

The open world elements make this game slightly boring for me, I am mostly for the story and to do so it is a chore. I like Gears for Gears, Running and gunning to experience the story and if you go that direction with this game your stuck doing one mission and traveling to the other objective just to push a button and rinse and repeat. I am fine with that style of game with anything but Gears and that is for the most part the main reason I am not fully invested with this game. I will for sure continue this game cause the story is very much so a bop... I just cannot recommend this game to core Gears fans, and those who have played it say the same thing.

This game gets a 5/10 from me, get it on sale if you are looking into getting it.

This game far much better than the predecessor, gears 4. Singleplayer brings the regular gears experience with a great story. The multiplayer is the best part of the game -at least for me- it has the horde mode and the new escape mode which is an awesome new feature to the series. Although it is not the best game in the series but definitely one of the best.

+PROS: -Good story
-Horde mode is the best in the entire series next to gears 3
-New features such as Escape mode
-huge multiplayer character selection
-The game is well optimized and has a breathtaking graphic

-CONS: -Content for the game came insanely slowly
Since the last update has arrived, all my negative opinion went away because they fixed many things during the updates, but again, they should have been add these fixes and updates when the game released, they made a terrible disgraced road map.

In one sentence: This game definitely worth its price especially during a sale :=)

I've played through this game 3 times, once on experienced with a friend, once on Insane by myself, and attempted to play the increased difficulty that was added after... And honestly, I don't know why I kept doing it to myself... using a mouse and keyboard for my playthrough and not a controller, almost every single cutscene drastically increased my sensitivity... It didn't change the numbers in the menu, it just decided that my sensitivity must shoot up. Only way to get it back would be to go into the menu, change the number up or down, save it, then change it back again.

On top of that, there are just in general so many bugs still in the game. On my insane playthrough, the game wouldn't move forward unless I picked up a power-up that was placed on a counter... except the power-up was not placed on the counter... so I couldn't get the power-up. While playing with a buddy, they tried to climb up a ledge, except I was right next to them also getting ready to climb up the ledge... so we both got permanently stuck attempting to climb the ledge as we repeatedly bumpped into each other...

The open world experience doesn't bother me, but it is a lot of emptiness between points A and B. The shooting feels great, the weapons feel great, and the shoot and hide loop is executed pretty well... But when you have to replay hours because something bugged out, holy crap is it frustrating....

I've played an awful lot of games in my life, and never, not even once have I ever had a problem with finishing one before, not even games I ended up hating, but for whatever reason I'm just too bored with Gears 5 to bother finishing it, even over a year after I bought it.

Gears series always had enjoyable co-op campaigns. In this game co-op is boring AF. Not enough action, too many cinematics. Frequent CTDs with no error message didn't make this game better.
Not interested in MP so I can't say anything about it.

The game spreads itself too thin and throws lots of content at you that seem really pointless, but there will be at least one game mode you’ll find appealing.

HORDE
More streamlined and lots of fun.
Matches in progress can be joined via custom tab, so you don’t have to start each game from the beginning. Also has different modes if you can’t commit to full 50 waves and the mutators or new classes keep it from getting stale.

The latter can be a bit overwhelming at first and it takes a bit until you gain better abilities by leveling up.

CAMPAIGN
Presentation is spot-on.
Fantastic audio design, strong vocal performances and overall really good looking with great attention to detail. All brought down due to a terrible contrived plot and sloppy writing.

The old games weren’t strong in that department either, but at least they had actual stories to tell. Here stuff just kinda happens until the credits roll.

Reminds me of Disney Star Wars - Bland, recycled ideas, unlikeable characters and full of memberberries.

ESCAPE
This mode is incredibly repetitive and barebones.
It wastes your time with an unskippable intro followed by another loading screen each game you play only to present a very lackluster ‘find the exit’ experience where each level basically looks the same. Playing with randoms on anything but beginner difficulty is just frustrating.

‘Left4Dead’ did this better 15 years ago.

MULTIPLAYER
Don’t bother. My ping averages at around 200 and once again the gnasher shotgun is the only weapon worth using.
Lancer is a peashooter and despite having a loadout you can’t actually swap out any weapons expect grenades.

Overall the game is okay.

It’s perfectly… fine. Just fine.

If you want to torment your soul and burn the horrors of playing a game where you need a whole magazine to kill an enemy (that assumes that all of the bullets hit the head), play this game in the highest difficulty. If you want to do that while laughing and crying at the same time, play it with your friend. This game honestly becomes quite the journey when you play it at the highest setting as you have to think beyond simple gun-play and strategize with your friend. Every mistake can cost you your life (and you die pretty quickly) so you have to make sure that you're not exposing any of your fronts (your own and your friend's). Oh, and did I mention that if your friend dies (no revives), you also by extension lose? You get sent back to the previous checkpoint and have to go over the whole stage again. I could keep on ranting about the experience, but I'll move on. I presume the game is pretty fun to play when you play it med. difficulty, but I think that it's worth trying the highest difficulty as it bring out much deeper satisfaction as you force through the game.

Solid recommend (at highest difficulty) if you're a masochist and have a masochistic friend.

Thought long and hard about this review but overall gonna say if you are a PC gamer, even if you are a old Gears fan, pass on this one. I'll break it down as pros and cons and not by a score and if the cons are meh to you then go for it. But I have a feeling many people will agree the cons are a little too much.

Pros:
-One of the best if not the best cover based shooters. Gameplay is still fun.
-Strong voice actors and unlike many long running series the story isn't a driveling mess.
-Well optimized for PC, don't expect Doom Eternal levels of optimization, but for Unreal Engine likely the best quality and performance in one package.
-Tons of added content for free (there's a condition).

Cons:
-Online is a must. The game literally won't reward you if you aren't online, even when playing solo with bots. The game will kick you if you pause the game for too long even when you are solo because it's online only. And pausing is hit or miss due to the online only function.
-If you are new to Gears 5 you WILL miss a vast majority of free content. They were limited and some you can buy for $20, currently at the end 7th season and 8th season is the final season. Meaning if you buy the game at the time of the review you need to cough over at LEAST $120 extra for all the stuff you missed and you will still miss many cosmetics that aren't in the game.
-No punishment when people quit. You can have a long play session ruined by a quitter and it happens too often. In fact it's very rare to complete a session with a randos on any game mode and some game modes are blatantly dead.
-Grindy af. At least on MCC they have weekly challenges and took away dailies. This game has it all: dailies, weeklies, seasonal, mid seasonal, events, ect. Why is this a con? Because you need the 'stars' to rank up and rank gives seasonal rewards. The game eats too much time and don't get me started with classes. Lvl 20 is the max level for a class and they need at LEAST 210 matches with a exp boost. That's right the mobile game limited time exp boost is basically required in this game to make it humanly possible to grind up a few classes. There's 19 classes so you need 4000~ matches, completed, to have them all maxed out and that's ignore the skill card grind, which requires the same currency you use to buy the limited time cosmetics. So without the exp boost you are looking well past 8000 matches that will likely never complete due to leavers and many more just to rank up skill cards.
-Balance. It doesn't exist. In every game mode there's no balance, every single one. And it's very bad. Some classes are completely useless by design in some game modes. Some classes copy each other but one is clearly the best and the others are just bad. Even in pvp just go gnashor shotgun...no joke play the game 10 minutes and you'll see that most other guns either require high skill or just can't do what a standard shotgun does. To make things worse it's hard to experience this bad balance in pve until you already invested a ton of time in a class to find out that class is useless.
-Classes just need a rework. I touched up on it on other points. But if you look at the perks and skill cards you can see that most classes don't have options. Meaning there's literally only one build for a majority of classes and no player choice without essentially trolling. There's no should I A) Build my class for teamwork. B) Build it for myself. Then you have game mode specific classes or skill cards. This is the worse because it's basically saying if you hate that game mode you wasted your time picking up this skill.

Now I will say it's likely to get better later on. Because the Coalition, game creators, added tons of things ppl been asking for looking at patch notes. But for me I played the original 3 with their DLCs and got into Gears of War 5 at the end of Season 7. And I can say this is the absolute worse time for a new person to get in. You basically missed tons of free stuff and get nothing but the bad since many of the improvements only help veteran players like the auto selling skill cards (obviously if you're new this does nothing for you when you have no skill cards). I WILL change my review if next season is better for newer players but rn it's basically for people who bought the game at launch.

Forgot to mention in a con there's visual bugs that occur occasionally. Flickering lights, weird blood mist, in game leaderboards/scoring visual glitching, ect. The only fix I found is closing the game and opening it again. And many others experience this have found that 'solution'. Not really a solution but it is a annoying thing I get every now and again for PC.

One of the few fun games I have. I 100% recommend this game if you want some thing new and hard to play. Highly comeptetive game as well. I'm not a super into Horde or waves. But it's fun if you are in to that type of game modes. Enyways enjoy the rest of your days <3

After avoiding this game like the plague for the longest time due to all the bad press I just want to say this game has my favorite horde mode out of the Gears series. Thank you TC for listenting to the fans and not killing horde mode. Ive played 60 hours exclusively horde and it is amazing because we arnt locked to the same characters and can mix characters and classes.

The game is not bad.
But as a Gears of War experience, it's EXTREMELY mediocre.

What went from a testosterone-fueled adventure turned into a boring story.
The story takes no risks and does nothing to change the formula a little. I found myself slapping my own face to keep paying attention. There are very few revelations/mysteries and you'll often question why you're even playing.

The multiplayer is still alive and well, thankfully. Though, the horde mode (the only game mode I played) had too few enemies. People would scramble to kill the few enemies that existed and I found myself having my kills constantly taken from me. It felt like WE were the horde and the locusts were defending themselves against us.

There were also some logical flaws. I won't spoil the story but in the beginning of the game, the woman was clearly too sleepy to join the mission. She would constantly doze off and wouldn't follow conversations. She even forgot to attach herself to the harness which could have resulted in her death. NONE of the in-game characters told her to stay back. It almost felt like they were too afraid of hurting her feelings or something. Not like she would've been a good asset to have anyways; she has NO muscle at all! Why is the most feminine looking woman a soldier?!

All in all, I couldn't bother myself to continue playing. The campaign just felt too repetitive - enter an area, clear the area of enemies and proceed to the next area to do the same thing. If the story was good, I wouldn't mind it but it was way too mediocre. I didn't feel any challenge in the gameplay either.

The game gets a 5/10 from me - if 1 is the worst and 10 is the best, the game sits exactly in the middle. It's mediocre.

As a third person shooter, this game excels. It has the feel of Gears that I remember when I played Gears 2. Satisfying and rewarding combat. Yet it insists on getting in it's own way with convoluted objectives and janky scene cuts, where the control of your character is taken but your character's well-fare responsibility remains. The ingenuity of the co-op, while making the experience fresh, only exacerbates these points. The unclear cause and effects lead to compound confusion and frustration. Not to mention the rubber banding of enemies, especially explosive ones, in a laggy playthrough. 4 hours in and I'm wondering whether it's just a huge learning curve, bad level design, or just me. which isn't a very fun place to be.

It isnt the best Gears of war game, that belongs the any from the original trilogy but it is pretty sound. The visuals are great as it is so pretty, both the world and the characters. The story was pretty fun, I personally didnt like the open world like levels as for me didnt fit with my idea of a Gears. The ending was a tad annoying but overall was engaging and made me want to keep playing. The multiplayer is what you expect by now in both the PVP and PVE. The best thing to me is although yes there is an in game currency, it isnt needed as you can easily unlock everything you want with a decent amount of game time and their version of a battlepass in the form of Tour o Duty is free, so hats off!

From a standpoint- I'm not a GOW fan, I played part 3 on a friends Xbox 360 and thought it was boring,

I decided to pick up Gears 5 when it went on sale. I gave it go and from the start the game was amazing. This has to be one of the most story driven games I've played in a long time. Kait is an amazing character and the emotions and writing was on point with her. Its a really good game I don't like to write a wall of text. If you never played Gears before I'd give this a shot you could even play it without thinking of GOW and the game is still amazing. I got it for $15 bucks but it is worth $60 bucks.

Have not played Gears since the 360 days. Completely went out on a limb here and bought it due to a few friends recommendations. I do not regret it at all. Multiplayer is extremely fun and I like the little niche community gears seems to have.

Unfortunately, I have no played the campaign since I have no idea what is going on in the gears universe. I do know they recap gears 4, but still just have not gotten around to it. So I cannot speak to that.

Overall, if you are looking for a fun MP experience and you are familiar with Gears or want something over the top brutal then I highly recommend.

This may not be the most favourable game for PC players or the best of entire franchise but this isn't that bad. Micro-transaction as it be, the game itself costs cheaper than it should, it's still enjoyable. It also requires a decent graphic card so beware.

TL:DR; Recent update broke/bugged out multiplayer for me. Really frustrating paying for a game then not being able to play it.

The most recent update completely broke multiplayer for me. I literally cannot spawn into a multiplayer game. It will only let me spectate. It doesn't matter which game mode I go to, It's the same exact issue. I finally gave up after I was reading online what little info I could find on the bug, Which apparently has no known fix, I've tried many things myself to fix it but nothing seems to work. The bug dates back to late 2019, I just dont understand why the most recent update had to break the game for me :/ Was really starting to get back into this game. Fun when you pay for a game and you're not even able to play your favorite part of it.

So far, gameplay is very smooth and I like it !

I haven't played gears sequel since 3. However, I ended up enjoying this game.

Multiplayer is quite satisfying as well. Especially, I recommend it if you have friends to play with because it's quite
difficult to find random ppl online if you want to play co-op.

Besides co-op, for pvp, que time is quite fast.

i have played every Gears game but this has got to be the most broken one, the only thing worth even trying to play is the Campaign, the MP is broken pile of garbage, the matchmaking in both quick play and ranked is completely ineffective and you either get put against people who and far above you skill level and just spend 10 mins unable to do anything or you get put against people who are new to the game and then it becomes boring. The matchmaking needs to be sorted out before it is worth considering sinking any time into.

The single player campaign is okay but paying £69.99 on release for the Ultimate edition and then finding that all it adds is a 30 day booster which I wasn't interested in using and a Halo Reach skin is a joke, I was expecting at least one upcoming DLC but no I paid an extra £19.99 for basically nothing & now they want another £14.99 for the Hivemasters DLC, Disgusting. If you're going to act like this you can sod off back to the Win 10 Store for all I care.

Campaign is kind of boring, characters are pretty crap in the direction they’re going. Skiv levels are terrible and feel like I’m wasting time doing nothing.

I don’t understand why developers have this fascination with “free roam” and “exploring” when they’re some of the most boring aspects of games.

Let me fight the locusts, give me more enemies, stop slowing down the pace of the game for a narrative that’s boring.

Epic campaign and quite fun to play. Simply satisfied with it. Didn’t touched the multiplayer so can’t talk about it but considering most of the negative reviews are about the multiplayer aspect of the game, best not to fiddle with it.
If you’re in for an action-packed single player experience simply can’t go wrong with it, especially on a sale.

Great game, the story is solid, & the PVP is to, Gears is not solo friendly, as with any game, its best to have 2 or more friends when playing,. The tuning is a bit lame, shotguns are nukes and lancers are air soft guns. However, it still offers a very solid online experience. Played gears since 06. The main issue to me, is the lack of game modes for PVP, they took all 1 life game modes out, huge mistake IMO.

This is a great game if you like difficulty settings based on number of insta-kill attacks, empty open worlds, repetitive mini bosses and insufferable bullet sponge enemies.

The graphics are nice and the doctor is very muscular.

But if you like gears 1-4, ok whatever play it i won't stop you

The only good thing I achieved out of completing this game, is completing this game, so that I can finally uninstall it.
Gears 5 is one of the most boring and painful experiences I have ever had in my life, I played some really bad video games but nothing quite tops Gears 5.
The open world isn't actually there, the side content is awful, the coop has many bugs, the difficulty damage sponge is INSANE. and we're not talking an enemy takes 8 headshots to die... no no no... let's try 8 magazines per enemy! just use the lancer and chainsaw away, trust me.
The multiplayer is not appealing to me but honestly it just looks like garbage anyway, tried a few of the coop modes but man this game... it's something else... it gives you a feeling of dread when playing it.
If you're playing this game and the cutscenes annoy you, don't worry about them, the cutscenes are better than 80% of the time when you're just waiting for something and there is only dialogue, there is so much dialogue it feels like you're watching a movie, but not even an entertaining one, let alone the game has some really stupid plot points and twists, and... the ending... wow... I just have no words, this game is awful, can't even recommend it at a lower price, save yourself the time.

Modern AAA games are pure money grab garbage. Execs are always trying to figure out how to increase revenue stream from said game. This game is an absolute example of this. You load up this game and are met with multiple pages showing you all the dlc and stuff you can buy. I loaded it up saw the casino like atmosphere and immediately quite and uninstalled this steaming pile of microtransaction garbage.

Can't support a bunch of devs that ban people in their community for giving feedback they don't like. I understand blocking them from you social media but flat out banning them from the game? This game was doomed from the start and TC refuses to listen to their community.

Gears 5 is a AAA game in the modern age. Boring. Full of nothing substantial, terrible story and horrific marketing based upon alienating old fans. And much much more.

This game had a worse launch than the Hindenburg. And content has been drip fed to players for the better part of almost 2 years. Microtransactions are a bit better than Gears 4, since you can buy what you want. Prices are still a bit iffy, but regardless that has been improved somewhat.

Character selection for multiplayer is horrendous. Nowhere near the amount of options the previous game had, and the bafflingly stupid decision to make characters have special abilities, that ended up being a stab wound to this game. Because adding character skins need to be balanced, now it takes much longer for more skins to drop.

This game is just...full of bad ideas. Bad marketing. Bad story. Bad performance. It's everything you'd want in a AAA game. Nothing of substance, just here's your bland story, your bland multiplayer with barely any variety and maps, here's your bland protagonist and whatnot. If I am being honest, this game successfully turned this franchise into a joke. Something that isn't worth pushing for. And to be honest I think it's microsoft's fault.

So TLDR, play Gears 4. Cheaper, full of more content, and you can actually find a full match.

Haven't played GoW since GoW3.
This is a fantastic game to jump back into the series with, here are some of the best parts:
- True to the original games.
- Very good story that ties into earlier games.
- Compelling charismatic characters [Del <3].
- I like Baird now.
- Great weapons [except for the claw].
- Fantastic main character.
- absolutely stunning scenes that make me want to screenshot continuously.
- Marcus' growl.
- The Cole train is back to form.
- Enemies are really fun to fight.
- Fahz's awful one liners really brighten my life.
- Bosses.
- Gorgeous graphics.
- Jack <3

Things that didn't slap:
- JD.
- Netcoding causing coop issues on rare occassions.
- The claw.
- Paduk being the annoying Clint Eastwood stereotype.
- Snatchers
Overall 4/5 big recommend.

So me and the boys feel like playing a lil gears, aight no biggie, we get it on sale, get hyped to play together, smash some swarm! Here's the thing, why tf would you make a game that goes backwards compared to its predecessors. its now only 2 person playable campaign while the 3rd person is relegated to a floating butler, this is bethesda levels of boneheaded moves right here.

After going on hiatus with this game and recently buying it here, I can say that this is how Gears 5 should have been from the start. 9/10

+Currently 19 classes for Horde & Escape modes with each class having about 15 cards, Each class playing completely different with their own ultimate and passive abilities. Feels a lot like an RPG.
+Mix and match characters and classes for Horde & Escape. No more characters locked to a class.
+New Daily Horde and Escape events. Every day brings you a new challenge with different modifiers for different difficulty levels and more rewards. This feels like you're playing a new dungeon each day, very well done.
+A free battle pass progression to earn skin bundles, coins to unlock even more skins, and much more.
+New maps for free, classic maps being brought back. Gridlock, River, Clocktower, and many more to come.
+Classic Horde has been brought back, but only in limited rotation right now.
+Multiplayer PvP feels smoother and much more balanced. Bringing back that Gears 1/2 balance.
+Most cosmetics earnable through gameplay. Very generous with coin rewards. 2,000 for Season skins, made 2,000+ in one day from medals.

-Still a garbage campaign story, but...
+New story DLC coming soon, modifiers, and difficulties. More ways to have fun.

You won't regret buying this game. The amount of content right now is insane. Horde mode is really fun, lots of synergy with the classes.

i have been playing gears of war since 2007, and this game is blatantly not gears. it is a generic third person shooter with a half assed gears of war paintjob. all identity has been stripped from the game. the single player now has the stupid cooldown active reload system that was in 4. the curb stomp is gone. they tried to shoe in some stupid open world adventure aspect instead of just focusing on making well designed linear maps. its a concept microsoft wouldnt understand, but not everything needs to be open world. im not even going to make myself suffer through the multiplayer, but it would appear its been dumbed down to every other shooter on the market now: grind for skins and emotes. who needs gameplay when you can default dance after you kill someone with your torque bow thats painted like a tiger? do not buy this game. gears of war is now a hollow shell of what it used to be.

Oh man I have mixed feelings about this game. People that know me are all aware that I pretty much play games for their strong storylines and this game had it... towards the end and even then the ending was a bit lackluster. I kinda felt meh after completing the game because I kinda expected more from the story, just feels like there's so much missing still and I'm assuming a Gears 6 will be made to completely finish the story from 5. However, this is my first Gears game and I enjoyed my experience hence why I'll give this a positive review. The graphics look outstanding!

I do NOT support the micro-transactions this game gives for literally every single detail including taunts, weapon skins, animations, character skins etc..

I've always been a Gears of War fan since I played on Xbox. Gears 5 is still fun to play. It has definitely changed compared to the old games, but it's still Gears to me. I had this on Xbox Game Pass for PC, and it ran like complete dookie. Got it on Steam, runs perfectly smooth. If you're a Gears fan, it's worth getting for sure.

I have really enjoyed playing this game and would thoroughly recommend it to anyone because it is a great game, BUT, I am someone who always finishes secondary activities before continuing the main story and in act III, there is an area called 'the Cosmonaut training facility' and i found and finished it very early in the act before going on with the main quest. Then, at one point i was told to go back to the facility, but I had already finished it and could not continue on, I had gotten softlocked and since I had gone back to the facility, I could not get back out, not even through previous checkpoints. So there I am with no way forward and no way back, so I basically have to restart the entire game, which I am really not motivated to do since I have been playing on insane. This is a game-breaking level design problem, devs have obviously not expected people to go there early and since they STILL haven't fixed it and seem to have no intention to, I can not truly recommend this game, so I will give it a thumbs down. unless they decide to fix it, but I wouldn't count on it, It's already been a year.

speaking about the campaign, it's long and there's lots of downtime where you're just running around looking for stuff and doing tasks. Act 2 suffers from this the most I think, but Acts 1, 3 and 4 are pretty fun. Overall, the campaign is enjoyable

If you've played Gear 1-4 then you know what to expect. Basically it's an incredibly linear shooter, where a door will close behind you leaving you to face some monsters. This happens about a million times. There is a small open world component when you're using a sled, and a small RPG component because you can upgrade you pet robot (but not yourself or your weapons). It's not terrible, but it crashes continuously on my PC (yes, I have the latest video drivers), which is really annoying because you can't save the game when you want, only (automatically) at checkpoints. Having to refight a boss again because the game crashed is REALLY not fun. If you can get the game cheaply it's OK. Rage 2 was much much better.

This is my first review, Used to play Gears Ultimate edition, Semi-professional or professional. I'am on OG Gears 1 player, IMO Escalation ruined the competitive edge in my eyes, Gears 4 was the worst game i have ever played in the entire saga, i didnt expect much from Gow5. At first my expectations, they were correct, but after operation 4, the game has immensely improved. From the flashy reaction shots, the amazing new store, and the best of it all IMO is all the OG characters. If they keep releasing the characters that paved the gears of war adventure (SGT. Hoffman) (Golden Hunter) (Savage Kantus) just to name a few of my personal favorites. IMO this is a very difficult game to excel in, if you put in the hours, It's one of the most rewarding games played at a high level.

With a lot of hard work and care this game has gone from a fun but buggy mess at launch, to a fantastic addition to the franchise with minimal bugs and a massive user friendly overhaul. I would happily recommend this game to new and old fans to the franchise, though it's no gears of war 2 or 3 it certainly adds to the series and has loads of amazing moments throughout all gamemodes. (might be best to wait for a sale though or play it through gamepass)

I always go into a game with the intention of having fun and not comparing a game to its predecessors. Playing it with an open mind to gauge whether or not I like the game with little to no bias.

Honestly I enjoyed the game whenever I had the free time to play. The campaign is fun, though every once in awhile it got boring in some areas. I haven't played much horde mode yet but it seems like ill enjoy it. As for the multiplayer, I have yet to play any due to not being good at multiplayer games therefore never having fun in multiplayer ever.

Overall I am enjoying the game a lot. Make sure to go into games with an open mind and don't compare the games to previous ones. Games are meant to be enjoyed.

If you're an Achievement Hunter then you should stay away from this game, the developers make intentional grind achievements just for the sake of having them.

Otherwise I would still not recommend it, the campaign is abysmal especially on the highest difficulty. There's a lot of bugs and issues with the game, the developers only care about the PVP aspect and that's the only thing they focus on, even that is handled poorly like wiping the ranked system multiple times because they're incompetent.
This is probably my worst experience with a game for a long time.

TL;DR: Don't buy it, if you get it gifted throw it in the trash.

It's fun but not as fun as it was in 2009.

Not sure what happened to the series in terms of the multiplayer aspect but it lacks competitive arc.

Like CSGO or CODs: Cyber Attack modes Gears lacks this type of round based skill driven competitive mode where the objective is bigger than 40 kills per match but 10 kills, 4 bomb plants and 4 revives (referring to MW as unfair as this seems idc).

I did play ranked in the gridiron mode where surprisingly people talked unlike the other modes and it felt competitive with something to win and lose, if you didn't play as a team but that was the only mode.

Gears should really consider more team based games. I think that would carry the brand further.

Also the leveling up system, weapon skin system and character choosing interface make zero sense. The most poorly put together interface I've ever seen in a video game outside of the Destiny franchise. The user wants something legible.

Outside of the campaign this game is pretty trash.

Way better game than Gears of War 4, and it has an interesting story that revolves around Kait and her connection with the Locust. The multiplayer is still fun just like previous entry in the series, but the game is riddled with monetization and microtransactions.

I'd recommend this to anyone who's fan of Gears Of War series and fan of Action/Adventure games

Haven't played Gears since Gears 3. Honestly it was my favorite game and by far the title i had sunk my most hours into. Judgement was a huge letdown for me, stepping way too far from what made the 1st 3 games so good. I saw a small amount of game play and watched to campaign for gears 4 and again, it felt better, but still too far from what i craved.

In the 3 hours i have played gears 5, i have felt rejuvinated, immersed in exactly what i have been missing all these years. My only gripe is that i didn't start playing sooner.

8.5/10 We're back boys.

Great game, fun, dynamic, fast decision making, even more fun with friends, rewarding for raising the stakes, various modes for PVP lovers as well as for PVE.

MS constant support and bringing contents through their operations, everything you see on the store earnable through playing, grinding, sure, but there is the ability to speedrunning, have met great people this way, only thing you need to buy is the Esport content, for obvious reasons.

People need to forget the shooter cover the old Gears were, it has changed a lot and people need to give this game an oportunity, paths for almost all playstyles out there, a must have in your library, let's not forget crossplay too.

Great to see Gears on Steam! Enjoying the multiplayer a lot. I hope they add some more maps from Gears 3/4; seems to be a real lack of maps.

The Coalition are however, are very active in bringing updates and balances to the game. Hopefully this will become the best Gears yet.

At first, I was not impressed. Issues with Microsoft services, connection problems, slow paced, plain boring introduction almost made me refund this game. But I was well past 2 hours mark, so I gave it another shot. Glad I did. Game really gets better and better, increasing it's pace and unraveling the plot. It's not a masterpiece of any kind but a fun co-op TPS, which is rare these days.

Been playin gears since the first one; this game gets alot of undue hate.
Its different, yes. Characters have skills in multiplayer, the campaign features 'open world' and a set of story characters that may or may not strike your fancy.
If ranked PVP is important to you, this game isnt for you; it needs improvement according everyone.
If you're open to a different take on Horde, this game could be for you.
If you love a story/campaign that really digs into the Gears universe and answers questions reaching far back as the first game, this game is for you.

If you are easily offended by micro transactions or expect story writing that rivals LOTR, Titanic, or some other legendary title, move on and please keep your whining to yourself.

Don't get me wrong, this isn't the best Gears game nor is it a masterpiece. Its like that ex you keep getting back with: flawed, but you either are addicted to em or you're drawn to their positive sides

PROBLEM : first of all there is a major problem on the audio which won't let you hear the conversations in a clear way and the solution is : Search in windows for %localappdata%, then go to Gears5, Saved, Config, PC, GameUserSettings.ini, and change sg.AudioQuality=3 to sg.AudioQuality=0

ive played this game on and off since the launch and they game has improved in many areas but overall the game is still not great for online multiplayer. the game still has problems with servers, players from different regions being put into games with terrible latency, a ranking system that does not work, and many glitches and bugs. Do not forget about the insane amount of overpriced micro transactions that have made old executions and characters that were once in every game for free are now locked behind pay walls.
the game has been out since september 2019 and servers/ maybe netcode are pretty bad. bullets that dont register , enemies gliding around the map lagging, getting shot in cover and but on the enemy screen im not in cover yet. i feel like everyone in the a single match is playing a different game. the ranking system is super bugged, winning a game can cause you to lose points even as mvp but losing a game can sometimes give you massive rank points. Stacked teams of 5 players in a party against 5 randoms at different ranks also is a problem. the whole system feels held together by tape and glue sticks. the campaign was decent its is far from the original 3 games but its suitable. they added a open world area that adds no value to the game is very bland with fetch quests. and lastly the player base on pc is really really small so search times take a bit longer than the console version. overall for a triple A game this falls flat of the expectations of all original gears of war fans, but people new top the series might enjoy it. i could not recommend this game even now almost a year after it has released.

Fuck the Matriarch fight.

The game froze during the cutscene that came after the fight because uncapping the framerate breaks them even though the option is there. So naturally when I restarted the game I got sent back to the very start of the fight.

Even if things went swimmingly, the fight adds this red filter at points during the fight along with a grating voiceover. And on top of all that, if you make one single mistake during the fight it's back to the start of the fight again for you.

Even though I was enjoying the campaign up to this point, this boss fight ruined the whole experience for me and no one else should have to put up with a lack of being able to save anywhere and archaic boss fight mechanics.

Sorry Kait, but you're on your own now and I don't care.

I have not played a Gears since Gears 3 and I thought that game was a blast for online PvP. This one has that same kind of Gears 3 PvP feeling that I used to love. I also play this game with the same buddy I played 3 for countless of hours with and we are having a blast popping some heads.

THIS IS A MIXED REVIEW

I wish steam had a mix reaction because I can both like and dislike this game. It is clear that Gears is long past its golden age. Gears 2 going into 3 was the shit back in the day. Gears 5, a lot of the times, feel like a shell of the former glory.

It's not Epic Games anymore. But I give the Coalition credit for trying. But there are a lot of directions I am strongly against that make no sense. (Ex: Removing the universal curb stomp that the bots can do)

I keep playing this game because I hope to see the Coalition pick themselves back up and turn this game into what it was meant to be.

For an actual positive bit of this review, the movement and gun play is near perfect. Graphics are beautiful and I came to actually like some of the newer characters. the new escape gamemode is neat but needs work. It's a smooth Gears game.

Point is, Gears is in a confused mess at the moment with a confused identity. It's got some great ups with some sudden deep drops. If you're new to the series, you may get some enjoyment out of this. But to a Gears veteran, it's fun but will leave a sour aftertaste.

On an end note, I never played Gears 4. Mostly because it was not on steam. I have, however, played it's filler campaign. When Gears 6 ever comes out, please, for the love of this series, do not release it with barebone content like what happened with this game. First impressions are the most important.

It unfortunately has some bugs but overall it isn't too bad.
The story was very meh, I was not impressed with it but the world felt good.
Combat is great and the game's graphical options are terrific!
Horde mode is very annoying because it needs the internet and lags all the time.
Have not played anything else in it yet.
I'd say that it isn't worth the full price if you only want the story or local coop/multiplayer as it is only supported in the story mode.
Another thing against it are the in game purchases, why are they in this when it is a full priced game? I cannot just let that go and the game does not shy away from telling you about the purchases you can make.
Maybe worth €30 at most.

Scope

This is only for the campaign. I’ve never really been into Gears multiplayer. There’s a ton of negative reviews for Gears 5 that I think are largely based on the competitive multiplayer experience. Since I haven’t and don’t play on touching that, I’ll just be focusing on my co-op playthrough of the Gears 5 campaign.

Story

It’s been a while since I’ve played through the previous Gears games, but this one seemed to have far more story than I remember the others having. The overarching story was great, and for Marcus and Kait specifically, it did a great job conveying the toll that their journeys have had on them. Fahz is a character that I loved to hate, and that paid off near the end of the game when Marcus dropped the single greatest line in the game. If you played through the game, I’m sure you’ll know what I’m referring to.

Gameplay

The gameplay is everything I remember Gears being, which means fantastic 3rd-person cover-based shooting. What’s new in Gears 5 is a couple of open world sections and optional secondary missions. Completing those secondary missions gives you some upgrades for Jack, the robot companion that player 3 controls, as well as some cool lore sometimes. So, I enjoyed the optional missions, driving around on the skiff, and what they contributed to the game.

Bugs

As much as I loved the game, there are still plenty of bugs that try to ruin the experience for you. The first may be unique to the Steam version, as my friends playing on the XGP version didn’t have this issue, but every time I transitioned to a new area or squeezed through a small opening, my mouse settings would revert to some insanely high sensitivity. I play at 800 DPI and had all the mouse settings at 1 in-game. The fix for this was pretty simple. I just had to go into the mouse settings and increase the sensitivity to 2 and then put it right back to 1, but having to do this probably 20 times through the playthrough was annoying.

The other two bugs are far more game-breaking than that. We absolutely could not start Act III after finishing Act II Chapter 5. Each time, we would spawn in the desert of Vasgar, which is where Act III opens, unable to move, or unable to see or hear the cutscene that was playing. After we waited for whatever the duration of the Act III opening cutscene was, we would all just get kicked back to the main menu. We did this several times before looking it up, and turns out it’s a well known issue that still hasn’t been fixed 8 months after release. We were able to continue by using mission select to start at Act III on a new save slot.

The final issue only happened to those of us that weren’t hosting the game. When we’d resume the campaign, there would be no in-game audio until we reached a cutscene. This is another well documented issue.

Visuals

I can’t go without mentioning how absolutely gorgeous this game is. It’s one the most beautiful games I’ve ever played. Here’s a collection of just a few of the many screenshots that took through my playthrough.

Conclusion

I absolutely loved this game. It was a blast from beginning to end, and a great co-op experience with some friends. I really wish we could have replayed the whole Gears franchise before tackling Gears 5, but Gears of War 2, Gears of War 3, and Gears of War: Judgment still aren’t on PC. So, I’d really love to see Microsoft create some sort of collection akin to Halo: MCC and bring those to PC/Steam. Until then, I’ll eagerly await the next installment in the franchise!

Campaign is janky and buggy as hell. Checkpoints do not save files so if you stop before clearing a chapter, you HAVE to redo the whole thing which sucks as hell. Bugs out in multiplayer especially with the skiffer where if player 2 drives, there's a good chance player 2 can't exit the skiffer unless player 1 gets to a small cutscene. DO NOT BUY unless you want to solo the campaign.

I've had this game since its release....Campaign is okay, but the multiplayer has been almost unplayable due to the constant (GW 502) error crashes that has been plaguing this game since day 1 and here we are, 6 months later, and it still hasn't been fixed... So if you want a game that has a campaign that's forgettable, buy it, otherwise spend your money on a game where the devs actually care about their PC fan base..

Good story line, enjoy the moment when playing. However there're some bugs and force to quit sometimes.

This review is for the single-player campaign only.

Gears 5 is a good game at its core with rock solid gameplay and incredible graphics quality. Not only that, this time around the game is open-world.

However, don't expect the open-world to be immersive. It's only limited to very few side missions that don't really add to the story and are only there to provide upgrades and finding relic weapons.

Gears 5 is a beautiful game with graphics that will push you system to its limit. In terms of performance, it's an extremely well-optimized.

As for the gameplay, as always, it's rock solid. Each weapon is unique and is satisfying to use.

While the story is great and you'll come across a point in the game where you will have to decide the fate of a certain someone but, it seems that Coalition doesn't know how to end a game. The game ends abruptly while you are expecting that there is more to come.

Considering all pros and cons, I never felt bored with the game. I am really happy that I bought it. It's a solid 8/10.

Gears 5 is trash. The Coalition destroyed a great franchise. Unless you wana play the story mode, I don’t recommend it. It’s filled with micro transactions, and gotta grind your ass off to unlock a character that should have already been unlocked.

I'll keep it short and just say a few things about it. Visually is a very pretty game and there were some instances where I was really impressed with the graphics. Gameplay-wise it's classic Gers. The story is just more of the same and at this stage, it feels dragged out, like shows on Netflix. The game/story needs to end. Unfortunately, they had to include open-world sequences which are just boring. But even worse, there are still some serious bugs in the game. After the boss fight in Act 2, the game froze 4 times on the loading screen for Act 3. I had to fight the same boring boss 5 times just to get into Act 3. And then I've read that Act 3 bugs out if you don't do the open-world part in the exact order otherwise your game breaks and you have to restart the whole chapter. That's unacceptable for such an expensive game. Also, there are zero reasons to include player choices in the game, like on whom to save, etc.

Pros:
- visually very nice looking game
- optimization is good
- good variety in levels
- action-wise is still the good old Gears

Cons:
- bugs, even game-breaking bugs
- boring story, especially in the second half of the game
- story choices shouldn't be in the game
- feels kinda generic

Worst gears game to date. Game design is utter trash.

22 hours in. I absolutely hate this game. Just playing it to finish it at this point.

- The checkpoint system is garbage.
- Enemies are bullet sponges.
- The Matriarch boss fight is annoying, Not challenging.
- Enemies randomly glitch 30ft. in the air.
- The checkpoint system is broken. I don't want to listen to 3 minutes of dialogue every time I die.
- Wardens

I loved this series. Sucks to see how it ended up.
Honestly thought it was being reviewed bombed and gave it a chance.
Turns out its just bad. The majority of the negative reviews are true.
The second I beat the campaign I am uninstalling.
Will never buy a gears game again if this is the direction they are taking.

First Off I want to say, i really did enjoy the game off the bat. me and my buddy had alot of fun going through the 1st 2 acts on insane. then enter act 3 where the bug fest begins. from constantly getting removed from the lobbie to jack losing all his abilities to del not even being present with the squad. the campaign was great up until i got to bug central. now the last missions are all but playable. I would like to give this a good review but i mean the games been out for months and its still not fixed so i can not recommend the game at this time!

The game has been glorious and fun until ACT 2 chapter 4. Me and my friends decided to play the campagne with insane difficulty right on. After 40 hours of struggling we reached the end of ACT 2 chapter 4, We took our time to finish all the side quests. Somehow, after a checkpoint, We cannot use jack anymore nor upgraded it, it's completely black when we open the jack window.

We have tried everything with it !!!!! Changing to Jack, played through the end of chapter 4 without jack. it didn't work. The only possibility is to open a new save with chapter 5, but the problem is we loose the jack's side quest ability. it took us so long to reach to this point !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! F--K this game !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Best Third person shooter game on steam, or atleast the most satisfying. The Main campaign is about 20 hours long, which is more than enough to enjoy without over staying its welcome. If you are addicted enough to campaign and tired of playing it alone you can play the campaign in local or online co-op. More PC games need this feature, which you'd think most would have by now. (Borderland games) Anyway, when you are done with the main campaign, you have horde mode to play with other players, you have PVP and you have another mode where you can play with other players as a team, to get through missions. This game pretty much offers you enough, to where you don't feel as if you didn't get your money worth. Only thing that bothers me is the ingame shop. Why does it bother me, you say? Because i feel as if modern games shouldn't have these features and should function like old games of the 2000's before microtransaction, where you didn't have to buy these things, rather just invest time into the games and earn them via constant play. All and all this is the best third person shooting game on steam and worth the playthrough. I always wanted Gears of War on the P̶C̶ Steam and i got it.
