Hello everyone!
Now that we’ve had a couple of weeks to read through your comments and questions, we wanted to reply to a few of the most frequently asked ones. Have a read below, and post in the comments here or on Discord if you have anything else on your mind that you’d like to know.
Frostrail FAQ
When is Frostrail releasing?
Frostrail is planned to be released into Early Access on Steam in 2026.
Will there be a public playtest?
Ideally yes. Right now the plan is to have multiple closed test sessions before Early Access, and if our schedule allows, a larger public playtest as well. We’ll keep you posted!
What engine does the game use?
Frostrail is developed on Unreal Engine 5.
How much will it cost?
It is still too early to give any exact numbers, and we want to avoid making any guesses to prevent misinterpretation and confusion. The price will only be finalized as we release on Steam.
How many people can you play with?
Frostrail has been developed with crews of 1–4 players in mind. This is an aspect we will continue to evaluate during development and Early Access to find a good balance between crew size and challenge.
Is the game going to be moddable?
Unfortunately, due partially to the constraints of the game engine, full moddability of the kind we have with Barotrauma is not a possibility with this game. However, we will explore other avenues for customizability and even smaller-scale modding support during development and Early Access.
Is Frostrail made by the same people as Barotrauma?
Yes! The Frostrail team includes many FakeFish developers who have worked on Barotrauma, as well as new talents hired specifically for Frostrail.
Will Frostrail have controller support?
Controller support is in the development plans, but it will probably not be available immediately at the start of Early Access. We will keep you posted.
Will Frostrail release on consoles?
Frostrail will be released first in Early Access on PC-Steam. We will evaluate possible console ports for 1.0 and beyond.
Will Frostrail be MacOs/Linux compatible?
One of our developers is primarily working on Linux, and we are eager to open Frostrail to the Linux gaming community. So that’s a tentative yes at this point at least for Linux. Our number one priority is making the PC version smooth and stable for Early Access release, and Linux/Mac support is also kept in mind every step of the way. However, we can only fully confirm support for these OS upon release.
Are you looking for marketing partnerships?
Shiro Unlimited, the publisher for Frostrail, handles the game’s marketing through their own trusted partners, so at this time we at FakeFish are not looking to enter into new marketing partnerships.
Can I translate the game for you into my language?
Like marketing, the game localization process is being handled entirely by our publisher Shiro, so we’re not looking to source translations from elsewhere at the moment.
